Day 6 of Codextober for the one and only Shay!!
He was no longer an Assassin, but not yet a Templar. Lost. Unwanted. Memories of the past life he once knew, no longer the cherished ones that brought him joy like they used to.
Until he met you. Just an ordinary person who was like him as well, caught in the middle of whatever life threw and finding your place in the world. In the time that Shay got to know you, there was the bloom of companionship that had long been absent.
He felt a kinship with you. Nothing compared to the sleepless nights, their ghosts and voices still taunting him.
Traitor.
Achilles will find you.
Pity...you wasted your potential on a Templar.
Looking at you made him forget that painful life, and all that remained was clarity. A yearning that built up within his heart, Shay knew that he had to tell you the deepest extent of his affections. Less he live with the regret that there was never a chance taken to begin a new life. For once, he felt free, but only with you.

Swallowed Whole and Spit Out, Wine-Dark and Wretched
Cross-posted on AO3
MATURE/EXPLICIT RATING: graphic descriptions of violence, injury, blood, and gore. DEAD DOVE DO NOT EAT.
Summary:
A violent explosion ravages a Templar storehouse, and scenes of Lisbon send Shay on a blood hunt for the Assassins who are responsible - and he will not rest until they lie dead for their crimes.
Words: 3,225
The ground shook with every uncertain step Shay took, his feet barely keeping up with the force pushing the rest of his body forward. The air smelled of ash and burning tar, smoke billowing so thick it was suffocating him. Every breath heaved clawed his throat, and the smoke burned at his eyes as he tried to wipe the tears away. Screaming came from all around him as he ran further into shadow, voices echoing around him as he pressed on.
"Onde você está, Joham?!"
An explosion from the right knocked him off his feet, and he rolled across the ground.
"You have become a monster, Shay!"
He shook himself off and pushed his aching and weary body from the cobblestone.
"Alguém, por favor ajude!"
Just as he reaches the end of the street, he hesitates, unsure of which direction to turn. The heat from the flames can be felt on his back as he looks at his choices. The boom of another explosion goes off and the debris from the building sprays out over the street, pieces of it slicing through Shay's leather and embedding themselves deep into his body. He cannot find the strength to pull himself up this time, cannot find the strength to continue.
"Hell welcomes traitors like you."
Shay's eyes shot open as he drew a deep breath in through his nose. He blinked out of his daze, recognizing the quaint room of the inn he was staying at. Darkness still streamed through the window, shadows dancing across the walls under the moonlight. Yet another sleepless night.
Dark rings ran under his eyes as he rubbed at his face. Sleep has come as a luxury to him nowadays, and he is rarely ever granted that. Every time he closes his eyes he smells the thick wafting smoke of Lisbon, the feeling of dread and horror filling his chest and threatening to smother him. He tried drinking himself into oblivion, but the smell on his own breath made him sick. It reminded him of the brewery storehouse he had fallen through the roof of, a fine aged stout that had drenched him head to toe and mixed horribly with the smell of burning flesh. For days after the earthquake, he couldn't rid himself of the smell of alcohol, his clothing stinking of such a strong scent that he threw all of it overboard.
Shay had been tracking down a group of Assassins who were connected to another gang attack on the north end of New York and his patience was beginning to run thin. One of the Templar storage houses in the Upper Harbour was hit, resulting in a massive explosion and several dock hands dying from severe burns and terrible injuries. The scene of the crime looked and smelled and sounded like Lisbon, and Shay was nearly sick just from the proximity.
At the time of the attack, anger had mixed with nausea, and he was so deep into his memories that Gist had to shake him by the shoulders. The Morrigan's crew took to helping the injured, and his Quartermaster had kindly guided his dazed form away from the area to catch a moment's reprieve. When Shay was able to regain his focus, it came as sharp as the edge of a dagger and pointed towards the culprits. He barely spoke a word to Gist before disappearing into the gathering crowd to track his latest prey. Now, he's left following their messy trail through the frontier, trying to cut them off before reaching Davenport. They needed to be eliminated, and Shay will make sure that they suffer.
They were well-trained but they were getting sloppy. Half-covered trails dot the countryside and poorly destroyed evidence was left in smouldering fires. Shay had no issue hunting them down like a bloodhound on the scent of prey, but he was always one step behind and a stray bullet too far, which perhaps annoyed him the most about this whole ordeal. He was sure he managed to injure one of them, but they were still scrambling to the next location with too much haste, not wanting to get caught in the jaws of the wolf.
But the wolf is upon them.
Shay dragged his body from the bed, hissing slightly as his feet made contact with the cold floorboards chilled from the mid-autumn weather drafting in through cracks and old window frames. Running a hand over his face, he looked out the window. The moon was high and shining in through the curtains, unhindered by clouds.
A perfect night for a hunt.
He stood, reaching for his effects and beginning to dress his layers. Sleep would not revisit him tonight, so he might as well make use of his time. He dressed in silence before sweeping across the room to the window and sliding it open without a creak. He slipped through the window and down the side of the building with grace before his feet lightly thudded against the ground.
There was a safe house in the area the Assassins would be keen to use before making their way further North, perhaps it would do him good to go and visit the location and see what is left of their scrambling. It shouldn't take him very long to get there. If he left now, he'd still arrive hours before sunrise.
This safe house was unassuming, placed in a field on the outskirts of the village and shrouded in trees, yet it reeked of Assassin. From the placement of the stables to the lack of shutters on the windows, everything had been modified to suit the needs and defences of the Brotherhood. All it lacked was the familiar insignia branding all their flags to hang down from the rafters.
Shay peered at the structure from the depths of the shadows surrounding the house. There were no lights shining through the windows and no sign of life within. The stables were empty, and the road was dry from tracks. He approached the house.
As he walked up to the door, his steps were careful and concealed in shadow. The moon was still out in all her beauty, so Shay had to remain careful in his approach. He reached for a set of tools on his belt and crouched down to begin picking the lock. With a quiet 'click' the handle shifted, and he entered the house like a phantom.
Taking care as he waltzed through the space, his attention caught on the dust layering the shelves. This house hadn't been used in some time, which meant that either the Assassins decided to skip this location, or that he'd beaten his prey to their goal. Shay's lips curled into a satisfied grin. If he was asked which to stake his money on, it would be the latter. So he would remain until morning, relocking the door and sitting taut like a statue as he formulated a plan of attack.
His eyes bore holes in the floorboards in front of him as he waited for his prey.
-
The moon had shifted to the right, streaking across the unlit cabin floor when the first sound of hoofbeats echoed from outside. Only about an hour had passed since he entered the abandoned safe house. Shay's eyes sharpened to attention as the muffled trotting approached, and he slunk further back into the shadows as a pair of riders passed the kitchen window.
Time seems to move slower as the minutes tick by. Shay remains hidden as he hears the tell-tale 'click' of the lock being turned and the door opening. The assassins sneak into the cabin, unaware of Shay's presence lurking in the shadows. The air is heavy with tension as they put down their bags and begin to unpack their gear. Unconsciously, they lower their guard as the minutes go by, feeling the safety of the candlelight. A woman of average height pulls her hood down and picks up a candle, walking around the room and beginning to light the others scattered on tables and bookshelves. As she nears the Templar's hiding place, Shay steps out from the darkness, his eyes glinting in the candlelight, the steel of his sword catching the eye of the woman.
She's seconds too late to react as he moves like a phantom, closing the distance between them in the blink of an eye. The Templar thrusts his sword through her chest as he pins her hand before its hidden blade can strike him. Her whole body tenses under his hard gaze, a flicker of recognition and horror in her eyes.
The assassin's voice trembles with a mix of anger and sadness. "You were our brother, Shay."
Shay's grip tightens around his sword as he pulls it from her body, pushing her to the side as the life leaves her bloodied form. She collapses on the ground, her body convulsing slowly, and the sudden noise sounds far louder than it should be. From across the room, the other assassin turns sharply, brandishing a blade from his belt.
"You!" He shouts in anger. He looks between the Templar and his fallen sister on the ground behind him.
Shay stands tall, his expression hardened as he locks eyes with the remaining assassin. The man's face contorted into a snarl, his eyes lit with fury. He remains rooted in his stance, and Shay steps forward to make the first move. He deflects Shay's blow with ease, pushing the Templar's blade to the side and favouring his left arm.
Shay's eyes narrow at the movement. The assassin is guarding his left shoulder - an injury. He presses forward, unleashing a flurry of precise and calculated strikes, each aimed at exploiting the assassin's injury. Despite the clear shift in attack, the man's reflexes remain sharp, his movements fluid and he defends himself with a series of well-timed parries as he dances around the room.
The man's snarl transforms into a sinister grin, fueled by a mix of pain and defiance as he begins to push Shay back. Their swords meet with a resounding clash, the sound echoing through the dark room. The assassin manages to gain enough ground to dart around a table, giving him enough space to turn his gaze toward the still-open door and call for the third assassin.
"Lawrence!" The assassin's urgent cry pierces the cabin. "Lawrence, he's already here!"
Shay seizes the opportunity presented by the distracted assassin and throws himself over the surface of the table, sending their forgotten gear clattering to the floor. He quickly regains his footing and lunges toward the assassin, his blade aimed at the vulnerable left side. The assassin, caught off guard by Shay's sudden maneuver, barely manages to parry the attack, sending him reeling to the side and fumbling to get back on his feet.
Shay pursues his prey with relentlessness, and the Assassin struggles to block the Templar's sword and regain his footing. The man is stumbling across the cabin, barely able to keep on his feet as Shay presses down on him. Footsteps sound from the door, and Shay vaguely hears the third assassin explode into the cabin as the door rattles on its wooden frame. Shay's back is turned towards the door, leaving himself exposed to the new attacker with only seconds to react.
Shay disengages from his attack and spins to block the incoming blow, but his position is too weak at this angle as he brings his sword up to deflect. The impact reverberates through Shay's arm as his sword is knocked from his grasp. He stumbles backward, momentarily disarmed and vulnerable. The room seems to shrink around him as the two assassins close in, seizing the opportunity to overwhelm him.
Adrenaline courses through Shay's veins as he quickly assesses the situation. he sidesteps a swift strike from the first assassin, narrowly avoiding a potentially fatal blow. His mind races, seeking a way to regain control of the situation. He flicks his wrist and the familiar weight of his hidden blade moves against his arm as he brings it up to deflect another attack.
The clash of metal fills the air as they engage in a desperate struggle for dominance. The assassins momentarily gain the upper hand, their combined assault threatening to overwhelm Shay's defences. With a wild swing, Shay's fist makes contact with the injury of the one assassin, causing him to stagger backwards with a wail.
Shay pushes the injured assassin away with a hard shove, gaining some distance between the two so he can focus on the other target. This man, Lawrence, is a bit larger than his companion and stands a few mere feet from Shay with a sword brandished. The two of them circle the room a couple of paces, both waiting for a strike.
Shay stops, squinting his eyes at the assassin and curling the side of his lip up to taunt the other man. In a flash, Shay's hand darts over to the table and grabs hold of a book from their supplies. The Templar flings the book towards the assassin and hits him square in the face.
The man, who was anticipating a blade, reels backwards in pain and surprise as the book fumbles to the floor. Using this distraction to his advantage, rushes the assassin and sends the two of them stumbling backwards into the bookshelf. The shelves rattle with the force of their bodies, sending a cascade of books down upon them.
Through gritted teeth, the assassin regains his footing, a mixture of pain and anger etched across his face. He spits out his words with venomous disdain. "Seems like you got a taste for blood while you were licking your own wounds, hm?"
Shay's expression remains resolute as he meets the assassin's gaze, his voice steady. "I have learned that sometimes bloodshed is the only language our enemies understand."
"Our enemies." The words drip with venom from the assassin's lips. "How far you have fallen."
"You think you are any better?" Shay leered. "You just killed a half dozen men."
"Nothing compares to the blood on your hands, traitor." The assassin glares, finishing his sentence by spitting in Shay's face.
Shay's hands release the assassin's robes and find themselves wrapped around his throat. The pair of them struggle in the dim candlelight, Shay pressing his weight against the other man to keep him in place, watching as the air fails to fill his lungs as tries to claw his way out. The assassin manages to get a hit in, loosening Shay's grip momentarily. The assassin manages to push back, but Shay's wrist turns sharply and the man stills as the hidden blade finds its way into his neck. The man goes limp in Shay's clutches, and the Templar lets him slide down the bookshelf to lie still on the ground.
Shay's attention is ripped away at the sound of clumsy footsteps shuddering through the cabin. He turns to see the final assassin hastily fumbling towards the door, a hand clutching his injured arm as he tries to find his footing and escape. He barely makes it to the door before the shot of a pistol rings out and he crumples to the ground with an agonized yell. The cabin door swings slightly to the side, merely inches away.
The assassin desperately crawled towards the door, leaving a trail of blood behind him. With each painful drag, the assassin's movements grew weaker and his breathing more ragged. Shay approaches with slow, calculated steps. He felt a mix of exhaustion and adrenaline coursing through his veins.
Shay stands over the injured man, his pistol still in hand. He assesses the situation, considering his options. The cabin door hung wide open, revealing the dark night outside. The surrounding forest whispers secrets in the night, but there is no escape for the wounded assassin. A tense silence settles between them, broken only by the laboured breaths of the injured man. Shay's expression hardens, his eyes cold and determined.
"Stay down," Shay says, his voice low and heavy. "It's over."
The defeated assassin lies on the floor, his body tensed with a mix of pain and resignation. He looks up at Shay, his eyes still filled with defiance, but also a glimmer of acceptance. The fight has taken its toll on him, physically and emotionally.
"Innocent people died in that blast. For what? To cut us off from one of a dozen weapons caches?" Shay scoffs down at the man, "Pointless."
The remaining assassin's gaze meets Shay's, his eyes sharp with disdain. "As if you are any better! You kill as you please, Assassin hunter."
Shay's expression remains hardened, his features unyielding, "Don't try to shift the blame, assassin. You claim to fight for justice, yet you kill without thought or consequence like some mad dog."
"So you aim to be the one to put us down? Is that it?" The assassin sneers.
Shay merely shrugs, leisurely reloading his pistol. "If I must."
The injured assassin's lips curl into a snarl. "God won't help you now."
A wry smile forms on Shay's lips as he meets the assassin's gaze with unwavering determination. "That's alright, the devil and I get along just fine."
Shay brings the pistol to meet the assassin's gaze and pulls the trigger.
-
As Shay walks around the silent cabin, his steps purposeful and calculated, his gaze falls upon the flickering candles adorning the table. With a cold detachment, he reaches out and knocks them over, their flames dancing wildly. Shay's eyes gleam with an eerie intensity as he surveys the scattered papers and correspondence scattered across the table.
He gathers the loose papers, one by one, piling them on top of each other, creating a makeshift pyre. The documents crackle and smoulder as he carefully arranges them, feeding the growing fire with each addition. As the flames take hold, licking hungrily at the paper, Shay's face is lit in the dim glow. His eyes are dark, and deep shadows pull his features into a grim look.
As the flames grow higher and the papers crackle, the fire in the cabin begins to spread, hungrily devouring everything in its path. The once quiet space now fills with the roar of the blaze, casting a flickering glow that dances upon the walls.
Shay watches the chaos unfold, the inferno reflecting in his eyes. With a final, satisfied nod, he turns on his heels and walks purposefully towards the exit, the flames licking at his heels as he steps out into the night.
The sound of flames and the scent of burning wood and paper fills the air as Shay stands outside the cabin. He watches the tendrils of smoke rise into the darkness, carrying with them yet another remnant of his past shattered past. With each passing second, the cabin becomes engulfed in an all-consuming blaze, its very structure succumbing to the wrath of the fire. Shay's lips curl into a grim smile, knowing that every piece of evidence, every trace of the assassins' plans, is being reduced to ash.
Shay leaves the scene behind, the crackling flames and the fading echoes of the burning cabin serving as a backdrop to his departure. As he walks away from the inferno, the darkness envelops him and his form is taken by shadow. The night swallows him whole.

Lucifer (he/him)
Hello, I'm Lucifer. Usually my last name is Crowe. I do sometimes go by Lu, but only with my friends. Do not call me Lu unless given permission.
I am a protector. I have existed in our headspace for over 10 years, having gone through multiple name changes over that time.
My first name, as far as we can remember, was Inuyasha. Sleepless had seen an episode of the anime by the same name on Adult Swim one night, and the name stuck. Sleepless was maybe 10 or so at the time, possibly younger.
I went through a few name changes before settling on my next, more serious, one. I believe my next name was Shay, after reading the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. Sleepless was supposed to read the book for a class in middle-school, but by now we can't even remember the plot of the story.
Shay was my name for a long time, but eventually it was changed to Lucifer, and I think I like this one.

Rating the Secret Projects
Tress of the Emerald Sea: 7.5/10
The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England: 2/10
Yumi and the Nightmare Painter: 9/10
The Sunlit Man: 6/10
So here's the details, with spoilers.
In general? This was fun. I loved the anticipation of receiving the next secret project and the presentation has been next level. I love the look of these books. The decorated hardcover with no dust jacket is one of my favourite types of books. And with the art inserts and endpapers.
Might as well start with Tress, for consistency. Its a good book, maybe even crossing the line into a great book, for all that I didn't quite connect with the characters. And that's the reason for the lower rating, really, I found Charlie annoying and in all honesty struggled with having a talking rat. There's a time and a place for a talking rat. I absolutely loved the magic system. That was very very cool.
Ah. The Frugal Wizard. I gave it a higher score when I finished it out of an attempt not to be negative. I didn't like this book. I will never reread it, out of sheer annoyance. Dear fucking god what a slog. Anyway the actual Handbook parts were worth something I guess.
Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. This one is a masterpiece. Interwoven plot threads, fascinating premise, interesting characters, flawlessly executed... oh wait, no, it was narrated by Hoid. Hence the missing point (it could have been 10/10). But Hoid being there brought Design and I like Crytics. I really like the Cryptic sense of humour, which is always fun and after Dawnshard I also find the Sleepless interesting. Actually, point in favour of this book - the cosmere references worked well for me. I also really loved the art, just particularly nice for Yumi. I've already reread this one.
The Sunlit Man. Hmm. I didn't love it. And can I say, straight up, I hate the name Zellion? It fills me with an unparalleled rage. I was hoping Zellion would DIE, but alas now I know who Zellion is he won't die any time soon. I didn't connect with any characters in this one, and didn't find the magic system or the plot particularly interesting. I did experience the very Branderson experience of wanting to reach through the pages and into the yet unwritten Stormlight books to find out What The Fuck Happened. Two orders? What? Also I'm mad about Auxiliary. I like spren. Fuck you Mr Branderson, that was not where I thought that was headed. As a side note, he says in the early stages of the concept the character involved would have been Shai. Unfortunately, I'd have preferred that.
So. All in all this secret project thing has been genuinely great, with Yumi and the Nightmare Painter as a stand out favourite. I love that book.

hey!! Do you have any recommendations for heist/mystery sort of ifs?? I've been looking for some similar-ish to green warden or mind blind- (romance doesn't have to be a big factor here btw!!) Thank you sm :))
PS- Can you try insure they're sort of,,,free? I know this makes me sound like a cheapskate but I"m a broke college student who really can't afford to spend money;;;
Most of these are more mystery-oriented than heist oriented, but there are a few heist games here as well! Additionally, since many of these are WIPs, they’re already free at the moment. Nonetheless, we highly encourage you to support the authors however you can, even if you you can’t express that support financially at the moment. Share their work, support them, and provide encouragement and constructive feedback if you can!
If you have suggestions for any mystery or heist IFs, please feel free to let us know and we’ll add it to the list!

[Y/n’s POV]
Sitting in the studio, I stretched my arms out as I reached to touch the tips of my toes. I shivered as my hand grazed the cold hardwood floor, causing me to bring my knees up to my chest and hug them as I looked for warmth.
Shay was currently messing with the radio as she was trying to connect it to Bluetooth. We were trying to work on getting the finishing touches of our dance down, but anybody could tell that we were beyond exhausted. This was the hardest routine out of all of our other ones and unfortunately, we just couldn’t get the moves quite right. This, of course, led to late practices and sleepless nights.
I heard someone clap as they signaled it was time for us to get back to practice. I let out a short sigh as I hoisted myself up off the ground. Getting into our positions, we went over the routine once again. Judging from the less than satisfactory glances that our choreographer was giving us, we could tell that we hadn’t done well. He soon called it a night as we all packed our bags and headed out.
My feet ached as I padded across the cold floor of my room. Usually late at night one would be able to hear the distant sound of the tv buzzing in the background as all of us talked amongst ourselves. Tonight however was different. You could probably hear the sound of a pin drop. The exhaustion that was spread among us was obvious as I could tell that it had hit all of us hard.
The next morning didn’t change my mind that it would be any different from the rest. Luckily, we were allowed an extra hour of sleep as we didn’t have to be at the studio just yet. Even with the extra hour given, we still arose just as groggy. The morning had a slow start to it as everyone seemed to move their feet as slow as they could in hope that we would be able to rest a little longer.
Arriving at the studio, I set my bag down before I let out a tired yawn. Our choreographer was the complete opposite of how we looked. He was stretching slightly as he was gleefully talking away with the other staff members. On the other hand, you had us who were trying to collect ourselves and not seem like we had just woken up.
As practice drug on throughout the day, our instructor called it quits as he looked happy with the work that we had been putting in. We began to see minor improvements in our routine which ended up uplifting our moods quite a bit. Currently we were all sitting down as we gossiped and chatted about to one another. I lifted my head as I heard the practice room door open only to reveal a familiar group of guys come in. I checked my phone to see what the time was as I started to wonder if we had stayed too late.
Ji-a called for all of us to pack our stuff as she apologized to the group for us staying so late as we didn’t want to be in their way. Zipping up my bag, I turned my head to steal glances from the group once again. I felt my cheeks heat up as I realized that I had made eye contact with Jisung. My face burned as I packed up my duffel bag, trying hard not to make eye contact with him once more. We had met a few times on separate occasions, him always being polite and inviting towards me.
No matter how little we had interacted with each other, I still found myself to be quite attracted to him. I found his supposed ‘shy’ persona to be quite charming, which didn’t help my schoolgirl crush at all. When he was around me, he was actually quite talkative and made me feel accepted and at ease. Mark waved us off saying that they didn’t mind sharing the studio at all. However shy I was, and however awkward Mark was, we actually grew to be close friends. Usually he was the one who would talk and put in the effort in our conversations, but I honestly didn’t mind. In fact, I was glad that he took the time to talk to me and help me get out of my comfort zone.
He waved at me as I was finished packing up, signaling for me to come over to the corner where he and Jaemin stood. Jaemin was another person that I had grown to be friends with since he was always outgoing. He often reminded me of my brother, which made me feel more at home whenever I was around him. As I made my way over to them, much to my dismay, Jaemin tousled my hair as he greeted me with a warm embrace.
“Hey!” I squirmed out of his arms as I let out a chuckle. “I’m already sweaty, and now you’re messing up my hair too?”
Jaemin didn’t answer me though, instead I was met with his laughter that signaled his satisfaction. I couldn’t help but let out a small smile as I looked at the two of them. Even though we would see each other in passing, our groups different schedules would often collide with each other. Unfortunately, because NCT is as large of a group as they are, it only makes their schedule that much more hectic.
“How come you haven’t been around lately?” Mark questioned. Before I had time to answer, Jaemin cut him off, “-yeah, we were playing Uno last night and you didn’t even show up.” He looked at me accusingly.
“First off, I didn’t even know that you knew how to play Uno because it’s such a strategic game.” I mocked him, making sure to put emphasis on the ‘such’. “And secondly, I’m sure you guys don’t have time to hang out with me anymore.”
Jaemin scoffed while Mark put a hand over his heart.
“Ouch, Y/n. You know that’s not true.”
“I’m just messing with you guys. I know that you guys are always super packed with your schedules.” I readjusted the strap of the duffle bag as I shifted it onto my other shoulder. “Besides, I didn’t even get an invite.”
“Yes, you did.” Mark stated. “Jisung was supposed to invite you.”
“Oh?” I felt my stomach bundle up with nerves at the mention of his name. I tried to rack my brain of why I hadn’t received an invite. On the outside, I did my best to keep a poker face in hopes that they wouldn’t notice the slight tinge of pink to my cheeks. “Well, that’s alright. I guess it just didn’t come through.”
I noticed that Ji-a was summoning me towards the exit, hinting that it was time to take our leave. I nodded at her and turned my head back towards the boys. They had a disoriented look on their faces, ones that seemed to go unnoticed by me. I told them my goodbyes as they wished me and my members lots of rest for our upcoming performances.
-
[3rd Person POV]
“How come you didn’t send her a message?” Mark hovered over Jisung as he looked at him with interrogating eyes. It was quite a humorous situation, really. Mark stood up straight as to try and match Jisung’s lean height. However, Jisung failed to notice Mark’s tactic.
“I was going too, I guess I just forgot.” Jisung said as he scratched the nape of his neck. Jisung had been listening to their conversation with Y/n, but refrained from making conversation in hopes that she wouldn’t question him.
Jaemin squinted his eyes at Jisung as he tried to figure out if there was any ulterior motive to his words. Mark and Jisung eventually turned back to the rest of the group as Jaemin continued thinking to himself. There was certainly a possibility that Jisung had forgotten to text her. After all, he is quite clumsy at times. However, he didn’t have time to think about it any longer as Mark declared that practice was starting. He shook it off, registering that he was most likely overthinking the whole situation.
-
Jisung begrudgingly got up to shut the window as a cool breeze sent a shiver up his spine. He shuddered as he finished latching it, making sure to seal out any cool air that may come in. He slowly walked towards the wall outlet to check his phone’s battery percentage. In the middle of the room, Jaemin made his way over as he had a sly look placed upon his face.
“Hm. Seems like your phone works just fine.” Jaemin look at him mischievously, squatting down next to him so that they were on the same level. Jisung looked confused as he racked his brain to think back to earlier conversations that they had about his phone. Jaemin chuckled quietly, as he could tell that he had left him slightly confused.
“I just thought I ought to point that out to you since you didn’t send a text to Y/n.”
“I never said my phone didn’t work, I just said that I forgot.” Jisung spoke a little too softly. Jaemin took this as his sign to continue teasing the younger member.
“I know what you said. I’m just a little confused. You see, I weighed the options about if you were telling the truth or not about texting her and I have come to a conclusion.” Jaemin had a cocky smirk planted upon his face as he was trying to get a rise out of his friend.
“Which is?” At this point, Jisung’s palms were beginning to perspire. He looked up at Jaemin, trying to act unfazed at his peculiar antics.
“You have a thing for Y/n.” Jaemin said confidently.
Jisung’s forehead creased in shock. How did he know? Was it that obvious? As far as Jisung was concerned, Chenle was the only one who knew about his feelings towards her.
“How did you know?” Jisung admitted defeatedly. He looked at him with curious eyes as he waited in anticipation.
“Oh, I just guessed.” Jaemin let out a boisterous laugh as he swiftly patted Jisung on the back. “You were quiet for a second, so I suppose it had to be true.”
“That’s not fair! You tricked me!” Jisung shouted at him as he pointed his finger threateningly. This only made Jaemin laugh harder as he held his stomach, tears beginning to spill from his eyes. By now, all of the Dream members were watching the scene unfold, confused as to what was going on.
“What are you laughing about?” Haechan asked, making his way towards the duo. He sipped from a water bottle as he looked at Jaemin with a funny look on his face, secretly wanting to be in on the joke as well.
“Jisung has-” Jaemin didn’t get to finish his sentence when he was suddenly tackled from behind by Jisung. However, he didn’t seem to mind the younger one’s advances to stop him. He seemed to be too focused on laughing at the whole situation.
Eventually, Jaemin stopped squirming and Jisung hesitantly let him go, making sure to watch his every movement. Jaemin gave Jisung one last wide grin as he pulled him in for a whisper, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”
With a sigh of relief, he felt like he could breathe again. Jaemin sprung up from his spot on the floor and met Haechan halfway, who was still curious about the commotion. There was a pit in Jisung’s stomach as Jaemin threw his arm around Haechan and guided him towards another direction. Surely, he would keep his word? Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if everyone knew. Jisung weighed his options for a moment more. On one hand, he wouldn’t be ready to face the teasing that came from his members. On the other hand, he could get to know Y/n better.
He sighed in distress of his current situation. After all, Jaemin was correct. He had been lying about forgetting to text Y/n. He let his nerves get to him, which resulted in him not texting her at all. He was annoyed at himself that he let his emotions get in the way of seeing her. He longed to see her once again, to admire her beautiful smile. He smiled to himself as he thought about their brief interactions that they had had in the past. He sighed in annoyance once again that he had been to afraid to speak more to her.
From the corner of his eye, Jisung saw a shadow move towards his direction to which Chenle promptly sat beside him. This time, Jisung sighed internally as he seemed to be having a silent argument with himself.
“What were y’all arguing about?” Chenle said with a laugh.
“Y/n.”
“Oh, did you tell him?” He asked.
“No, he guessed.”
“Yeah, if you look close then it’s pretty obvious.” He said without hesitation. Jisung almost choked on air at his friend’s nonchalant answer. Chenle continued to watch his phone, unaware of his friend’s jumbled state.
“It is? How?” Jisung looked at him in bewilderment. He thought back to all the times the members had brought her up. Was it in his favor? Were they trying to get a rise out of him? Surely not.
“You always try to find a way to talk to her or be by her when she’s around. You’re usually quiet and awkward.” Chenle said, not skipping a beat. “That’s not a bad thing. It’s quite funny to watch really.”
Jisung looked like a deer in headlights. The more he thought about it, the more he realized how obvious his infatuation with her was. He looked down at his hands in embarrassment, his cheeks revealing a pink hue. He wanted to tell Y/n his feelings towards her, truly he did, but the fear rejection kept him from doing so.
“So, what should I do?” Jisung voiced aloud. A tiny voice in his head told him to keep the subject at bay, but if he didn’t act on it right now, how would Y/n ever know that he had feelings towards her.
“Well, for starters you could invite her to one of our game nights.” Chenle smacked Jisung on his back as he let out a hearty laugh. In all truth, Chenle wanted to see Jisung and Y/n together more than anybody. As soon as Jisung had told him about his small crush on the girl, he instantly understood the connection.
It was often said that opposites attract, but seemingly so, that wasn’t the case for these two. Jisung, on one hand, was shy and awkward towards new people. Though, every once in a while he would show people his bold and rather comedic personality.  Y/n, on the other hand, was also shy but less awkward. She tended to stay quiet out of courtesy in order to let her other members speak.

[Y/n’s POV]
I jumped as the door opened swiftly, as if expecting my arrival, which they were. I was soon faced by Jaemin who was grinning from head to toe. He ruffled my hair as he pushed me into their dorm. As soon as I stepped foot into the entrance, my nose was hit with the delicious smell of pizza. Frankly, I didn’t care what I ate at the moment. All I knew was that I was hungry.
As I walked in, Jeno was the first one to greet me with yet another hair ruffle. He graciously offered me a slice of pizza, to which I gratefully accepted. I made my way to the table to fix myself a plate, but was stopped shortly after by a hand tapping on my shoulder. I turned around with a slight frown, upset that I had been interrupted from getting food. However, I was soon face-to-face with Jisung - or should I say face-to-chest.
I swallowed hard as he looked at me with wide eyes. I couldn’t help but admire his features, the same exact features that drew me towards him. He was wearing his grey hoodie, one that he would often wear when he went to practice, I noticed. He made the hoodie look so comfortable, or perhaps it was he himself who was comfy.
“Y/n?” I snapped back to reality as I heard him call my name. I hadn’t even realized I was zoning out until he said something.
“Sorry! What were you saying?” I ducked my head down as I was slightly embarrassed that I hadn’t been paying attention. The ends of his lips curled up into a small smile as he cleared his throat to speak again. I tried to hold a chuckle in as I saw that he had a pizza stain on his hoodie. It was small, but still noticeable.
“I was wondering if we could talk for a moment?” He pointed away from him, signaling he wanted to go away from prying eyes.
I nodded enthusiastically as he led the way to what I can only imagine was his bedroom. I laughed to myself as I looked around his room. You could tell that an effort had been made to clean the room. Unfortunately, the ‘effort’ consisted of clothes being thrown under the bed, a makeshift bed, and an overfilled trashcan that was barely noticeable as it hid in the corner of the room. Nevertheless, I appreciated the effort.
Jisung rubbed the back of his neck as he gestured to his room. His eyes barely met mine as he began to stumble over his words avidly trying to apologize for the state of his room. I laughed softly at him.
“It’s okay, I don’t mind.” I tucked a stray piece of hair behind my ear. He looked at me hesitantly, almost like he was trying to see if I was telling the truth or not. “I promise.”
I gave him a small smile as I stood awkwardly in the middle of the room. He must have sensed my discomfort because he quickly pulled his desk chair out for me to sit in. I gladly took it as I tried to make myself as comfortable as possible. He sat himself on the bed seeing as there wasn’t any more chairs in the room. He looked to be in deep thought because I could see a few crease lines upon his forehead as he situated himself to get more comfortable.
“I just wanted to say that I was sorry for not sending you an invite last time.” His eyes failed to meet mine as he seemed rather intrigued on his fingernails. I looked up at him confused at his demeanor.
“Oh, that’s all? I thought you were gonna tell me a deep dark secret or something.” I looked over at him as I laughed about the whole situation. Was that really all that he wanted to talk about? It could have been a big deal to him, but he shouldn’t feel bad about it.
“No, no dark secret here.” He laughed awkwardly as his eyes finally met mine. A small smile played on his lips as looked visibly more comfortable. “I was just nervous that was all. Sorry, I called you in here.”
He briskly got up as I followed right behind him to the door. What a silly conversation. Yet, my heart still swooned a little at the thought that he had wanted to talk to me and apologize in person. I thought that it was a kind gesture to do over something so small. Even so, a thought popped into my head about our conversation just now that made me stop in my tracks.
“Wait, what?” I looked at him curiously. He stopped at the door frame and turned back to me, confused about what I was asking. I continued, “Why were you nervous?”
He looked like I had asked him a hard question. His face seemed to glaze over as you could tell that he was deep in thought. I let him ponder for a bit more as I smiled awkwardly to myself, unsure if I should snap him from his trance or not. I decided to go with it as I quietly called his name. His head snapped up and he spoke as if he was at a loss for words.
“I said that? Okay. I just- I was- I was” He stuttered along. I could tell that he was getting himself worked up. I squinted my eyes at him as I nodded along with him, acting as if I knew what he was gonna say. To be fair, it was a little comical.
“Jisung.” I offered him a warm smile. He took a breath before looking at me. His eyes felt like they were piercing through mine. I felt breathless while I was looking at him. He could make my heart flutter without even doing anything.
“I was nervous” He ended the eye contact that we had. He became interested in his hands once more, struggling to get his words out. “because I have feelings for you.”
His eyes widened as he realized what he had blurted out. I could practically feel the metaphorical sweat dripping down his face. I had my mouth slightly ajar from his confession.
“I don’t know why Y/n. I know we haven’t talked a lot but there’s just something about you that makes me feel like a better version of myself. To be honest, I didn’t even know if I should tell you because I was nervous about how you would react.” He paused his rant to look at my face, seeing that my mouth was still opened slightly. He continued, “I know you probably don’t feel the same way but I was talking to Jaemin and he said that it’s better to put my feelings out in the open rather than keeping them in. And I-”
“Jisung!” I cut off his rambling. “Did you ever stop to think that maybe I have feelings for you too?”
Now this, I could tell, sent him into shock. He suddenly yanked his head up as his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. I could physically see the cogs in his brain working overtime as I looked at him. I didn’t even have time to be embarrassed by my feelings, I was too overjoyed to care. I felt like I was on top of the world. How could he have ever thought that I would reject him?
“You do?” He said once he finally pulled himself together. Slowly but surely a smile crept up onto his face.
“You do?” A voice shouted from around the corner.
Jisung and I whipped our heads around the corner of his room only to be met with the praying eyes of Jaemin. He looked sheepish as he stood up from his crouched position. I stifled a laugh at the situation that had just unfolded. Only this time, my cheeks burned as I realized he had most likely been listening in on our conversation.
“What? I don’t get a thank you?” He folded his arms looking at us pointedly. He straightened out his back as he practically skipped back down the hallway. I subconsciously rolled my eyes as I let out a chuckle. Jisung scoffed, looking annoyed that we had been spied on.
“Thanks, Jaemin.” I called out, his back disappearing from our sight. I could still hear his feet padding along the hardwood floor in the other room. There was no doubt about it that he was going to tell the rest of the members. I guess Jisung and I would just have to deal with that later.
"Uh-huh.” Jaemin yelled back.
Jisung couldn’t help but laugh as he looked back at me, and then towards the ground. “Yeah. Thanks, Jaemin.” He looked back up at me as a playful smile played along his lips.
“Well, shall we?” He gestured back to the kitchen.
My eyes creased as I gave him a smile.
“We shall.”

About time
Olivia Benson x female reader
Warning: mentions of death, killers, murder, coma, heated steamy makeout session. Drinking, swearing, 18+ only. Spoilers for season 3 of Chicago fire.
AN: I'm aware the time line between yates and gish doesn't add up let's pretend it does okay😊, thought it was about time I wrote for my first female crush.
Olivias heart sped up with excitement when she was told that you would be one of the detectives sergent Voight was sending from Chicago. You were chasing a serial killer that had crossed into her jurisdiction, three murders on her hands so far with little evidence but the thought of seeing you again made her feel better.
Ever since you'd come with detective Lindsey to track down dr yates Olivia had been trying to build up the courage to ask you out. She never did and it wasn't until you'd boarded a plane back home that she was hit with massive regret.
She had called once, when you were in the hospital after almost being killed by gish, Olivia felt sick when she had heard and spent the day worrying about you, she picked up the phone several times but hung up before it rang, Olivia didn't know  what to say, she ended up leaving her best wishes to the nurse on your ward.
"Detective Y/N, Halstead ,thank you for coming she smiled as she shook both  your hands. Coffee is over there and then we can get started.
Jay had never moved so fast. Leaving you and Olivia alone.
"Detective, how are you? After.. she trailed off
"I'm okay, just a few minor injuries, nothing too bad"
"You were in a coma for a week! You had to have emergency surgery to save your life!" She exclaimed.
"Eh, well I'm alive aren't I? If I didn't know better I'd say you were worried about me, lieutenant benson" you winked.
Liv playfully whacked your arm, cleared her throat before she changed the subject.
"Were you close? You and shay?"
"We were" you said staring off into the distance.
"I'm, im sorry, truly" she said squeezing your shoulder.
You wanted to lean into her touch, but were interrupted by Amanda saying they had a lead.
After a very long few days and sleepless nights, you had finally caught the killer, you were out for drinks with the squad.
You sat next to liv, the booth was crammed and you were touching, the buzz of the bar and the warmth of the alcohol made you feel hot, too hot.
Everyone was chatting and having a good laugh, you were quiet but smiled along when you needed to.
"Everything okay detective?" she whispered into your ear. It sent shivers down your back.
"Yeah, yeah, just, would you excuse me for a moment" you made a line towards the bathroom.
Rafael and Amanda  stared at liv from a cross the table.
"what?" she queationed
"well what are you waiting for?" Amanda teased.
Liv raised her eyebrows at them
"Go get her liv" Rafael said, raising his glass.

Liv found you bracing yourself on the sink, eyes closed.
"you okay, y/n?" she stepped closer to you.
"mm hmm" you mumbled not looking up.
Liv reached out and gently turned your face to look at her.
"Y/N, I'll ask you again, are you okay"
You stared into her eyes, you could get lost in them you thought.
"Oh fuck" you breathed before leaning in to kiss her.
Olivia reciprocated, she moaned when you pushed your tongue into her mouth, her hands trailed to your waist and she gripped your hips tight.
She pressed forward and spun you slightly so you were against the sink, she didn't break the kiss as you hoisted yourself onto the counter.
She stood between your legs and trailed her hands back up to your face and cupped your neck.
After what felt like hours she broke the kiss and lent her forehead to yours.
"So" she whispered
"my place?" she questioned.
"your place" you agreed as she led you out pulling your hand.

Hi, I'd like to request fluff #12 Pickleface, and/or angst #44 Hammertooth :)
Could you say that again?” “Were you not listening?” “No I was, I just like hearing your voice.”
Sorry for the long wait. Here’s some pickleface fluff, as you requested.
Rating: K
“I gotta admit it, Murderface,” Pickles began, ripping a piece of his breadstick before dipping it into a small cup of ranch dressing, “this is real nice. I didn’t think ya would do this, but–”
Murderface watched with the cheekiest grin as Pickles lifted his free arm, gesturing wide at the scenery. His lanky appendage waved upwards, catching the eyes of friendly waiters and waitresses, all of whom were in no way intimidated by the klokateers hidden in the corners, guns raised at the slightest warning. Besides the armed men were warm, sunset walls plastered with standard Italian imagery: worn brick layouts, pictures of various pastas, old women hovering over stoves, and painted grapes ripening on vineyards. Under the arches were bottles of wine and baskets of carefully selected artificial flora. Above their table, a gaudy chandelier hummed a delicate light, both complementing and making up for the single, fat candle glowing between them.
Across, Pickles flashed an impressive grin, and the bubble of nervous gas and acid rupturing in Murderface’s stomach immediately began to resolve itself.
“This is pretty neat, dood,” Pickles said. His head shifted, turning away from the light to hide away the sincerity now chipping away at his demeanor. “Prolly da nicest thing ya ever did...”
Murderface wriggled in his seat. “Could you shay that again?”
Pickles’ piercing shimmered as he raised his brow. Amused, he snickered at the question. “Were ya not listenin’?”
Murderface was caught up with every word, had it carefully memorized and practically embroidered into his miserable heart. Finally, after so many tries, he had Pickles with him. They were out together. Just the two of them. And Pickles, the esteemed and talented man that he was, had actually gone and complimented him. Would it be too much to say he wanted to milk each line, saturate himself in that creamy voice, and even sweeter words? Did he have the courage to admit to Pickles that he craved his acceptance more than the fried mozzarella and chicken parmigiana, savored his presence more than the three bottles of moscato they’d already consumed?
The answer came swiftly in the form of a nasty buildup in his intestines. Just taking him to this Olive Garden had caused so much anxiety, tormented Murderface with long, sleepless nights filled with hypothetical rejections.
“No I wash, I jusht like hearing your voishe,” Murderface replied collectively, never giving the slightest indication of how terribly nervous he was to be sitting across from Pickles.
A waiter approached their table to pick up the emptied bread basket. “Would you care for more breadsticks, sir?”
Pickles stopped to shake his head. “Oh, nah. It’s—“
“Pickles, pleashe,” Murderface interjected. He flashed the most polished grin he could muster which, under the dim lighting, almost looked palpable. “It’sh on me.”
“Sir, our breadsticks are unlimited.”
“Oh, uhm.” Murderface stammered as he tried to think of a quick save. A funny line. An admittance of defeat, but not without ruining his already questionable reputation. “Yeah, I knew that. I wash jusht–”
“It’s cool,” Pickles interrupted, capturing Murderface’s hand in his, and guiding it back to the table. “I’d, uh, like another basket.”
Slack jawed, Murderface brought his attention to their coupled hands, face breaking into a sweat while Pickles carried out the door, totally unaffected.
“An’ another bottle,” Pickles tacked on, teeth biting his bottom lip as his stare met with Murderface’s. “Jus’ one though. It’s gonna be a long night… don’t wanna pass out too early, right?”
His small, bony fingers squeezed Murderface’s.
“R-right.”
