#thank you! #softest beds is a whole new compliment that's so sweet #let me go off on a weird and personal tangent for a minute #I've always found the concept of sleeping very touching somehow #it's this mandatory resting period literally everyone has to plan their life around no one has the power to avoid sleeping #if you neglect it your mind and body start to break down very quickly #sleep is such a neutral state of being no one is particularly sad or happy or evil or good while they're asleep they're just logged off #sleeping feels nice it's rejuvenating it's one of the few universal pleasures every single person has an access to #and I find it terribly cute how people have different little bedtime rituals #socks on socks off various pillow and blanket arrangements certain sounds that make them sleepy etc #and sleeping next to someone is such an act of trust #it's extremely intimate as is sex doesn't necessarily have to factor into it #getting comfortable and going unconscious with someone at the same place at the same time that just touches my heart #especially if you're invited into their bed which is a very private space a person's own little nest where the world can't reach them #even if you fall asleep in public transport there's this vulnerability to it and for the most part people respect the sanctity of sleep #and tend to leave sleeping people alone at least in my limited experience #I like drawing my characters sleeping because it feels like I'm doing them a favor granting them a little respite #anonymous #answered

ok let me make a post about the Fax Machine in episode 34 (vague spoilers for those who haven't watched utena yet) because that aspect of the scene was always kinda obvious to me but i see people very confused about it.

so in true rgu fashion first i will need to explain to yall the plato's allegory of the cave (Most Normal Utena Post)

The tale of the Rose's first instance is told to us in a theatre, by the shadow girls. Utena is led to this play by Akio. Like in plato's cave, he's showing her (and the world) only the shadows of the true event. The outside world will see the shadows and assume it's the truth, because along with everything else Akio creates, IT'S AN ILLUSION.

Then in the second instance of the Tale of the Rose we can see another perspective of the story, Anthy's perspective, as she attempts to save Dios. And in this weird little seemingly abandoned shack. There is a fax machine. what does a fax machine do?

Well, in a way, it *records*. It scans information and sends an identical copy over. Its purpose within the scene is to show us this is the true event. Akio, as he admits prior, is Lucifer, a deceiver, and Anthy's story of self-sacrifice while trying to save her brother was twisted by him into her stealing away the prince of the world. This also shows us that the world believed Anthy's little story of her being a witch (which was worded in such an obviously childish way by her) who took away the prince so they couldn't harm him. Anthy being a child didn't understand what the world would do to her because of that innocent lie, and yet, they believed it.

It’s late at night and Luke’s on the couch. He is half-asleep, half-focused on the tv playing The Simpsons quietly into the dark living room. Footsteps pad across the floor from the bedroom, and there Ashton appears at the end of the couch. Immediately, Luke notices the distinct leopard print pattern of their big fuzzy throw blanket normally at the foot of their bed is now draped around his shoulders. Ashton himself is all messy curls and facial hair in the bluish light of the cartoon. Luke doesn’t know if it’s his eye strain or his imagination, but the ambient light from the kitchen gives him a glow. He swears he could see starbeams around Ashton’s figure.

“I’m scared of the dark,” Ashton hums with the corners of his lips turning up ever-so-slightly.

Luke looks up at the handsome man, and without even a second thought he opens his own blanketed arms to allow Ashton inside his bundle of warmth. “C’mere.”

Ashton immediately accepts the invite. Before Luke knows it, the older man is lying on his chest watching the show. Ashton comically shifts around so he’s more comfortable, and the giggle bubbles up from Luke’s chest till he’s grinning and moving Ashton with every little chuckle. When it grows still, he tenderly reaches out to play with Ashton’s hair, no longer concerned with watching the screen.

Instead, Luke is feeling the weight of his boyfriend when he breathes. He’s measuring his skull with his own fingertips as the chosen unit of distance—though he’s lost count several times. He’s imagining kissing the sleepy man with his tousled hair and his prickly beard. He imagines the low hum he’d get from him if they did kiss. The butterflies that would explode right from his core at the longing behind Ashton’s sleepy noises. The slow drowsy way their lips would move together over the low background noise of the show. Luke purses the leftovers of his smile into a fond pout at the idea.

The credits are rolling on the episode before Ashton’s weight shifts. He looks up to Luke with that same trying-not-to-smile smile. Luke can see stars in Ashton’s eyes anytime he spoke to him, but especially in softer light like this. “As much as I love a good Sideshow Bob episode, I’d rather be kissin on you in that big ol’ bed of ours.”

Luke broke into a grin. “You read my mind.”
