Steve has gone to bed with a lot of people.
he's poured his heart into loving them, holding them close, cuddling in, and willing them not to leave, and maybe that's where he went wrong.
because steve has gone to bed with a lot of people, but he's never woken up with them.
every time, they always find a way to sneak out, slide their way out of his bed, and untangle their fingers from his grasp. and he thinks the ones who leave don't notice that he always wakes up when they leave.
so when he curls into bed with Eddie, he prepares himself for a heartbreak in the morning. only it never comes, because Eddie stayed.
and when he woke up, Eddie's hand was still wrapped around his own.

Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
I flipped to the next page of my book, trying to block out the noise and focus on the story as someone came into the living room. I'd been trying to finish the newest book in my favorite series for a while, and I'd decided to do so on the couch in the living room of Avengers Tower. If I wanted to be confident no one would disturb my reading, I would've stayed in my room, but I wanted to venture out of my cave for a little bit, and most people were training or on missions, so it felt likely that no one would bother me.
Apparently, I was wrong. Someone flopped down onto the couch right next to me with a heavy sigh. I wouldn't have set down my book, except I recognized that sigh. It was my boyfriend, Steve Rogers, sounding more exhausted than he usually ever let people see.
I bookmarked my page and set my book aside, then turned to Steve. He had bags under his eyes and looked like he was about to pass out, right where he was. Usually, he was a pretty upbeat person, but clearly something was weighing on him today.
"Hey babe," I said, shifting on the couch so I was facing Steve. "What's wrong?"
He shook his head. "Nothing. It's just... the job's wearing on me a little more than usual."
"What do you mean?" I asked, shuffling a little closer and putting a hand on his arm. Steve didn't look at me, just kept staring holes in the ground.
"I've been running around putting out fires and getting the shit kicked out of me for days. I don't think I've slept more than a few twenty-minute naps in... four days?"
"Oh my gosh, Steve!" I cried, wrapping one arm around him and pulling him into me. His head landed on my chest, and slowly, he leaned the rest of his weight against me.
"I'm just so tired," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. I pursed my lips, but didn't say anything. I hated seeing him like this, and I hated what this job did to him sometimes. But at the end of the day, he loved it. Nothing would ever convince him to give it up.
I pulled Steve a little closer as I gently stroked his hair. I could feel him focusing on taking deep breaths and staying calm, so I slowly leaned back until we were reclined on the couch, Steve on top of me with his head on my chest.
"I'm so sorry you've had such a bad stretch of days," I mumbled, wrapping myself around him tightly. He just hummed in response. I kept running my hands through his hair, trying to help him relax and make him feel safe despite everything he'd gone through.
After a few minutes, I felt the tension fade out of Steve's body. His breathing evened out, and I quickly realized he'd fallen asleep.
I smiled to myself. About damn time he got some rest.
We stayed like that for a long time, and I'd just started to drift off myself when I heard footsteps and loud voices coming up from the training room. I turned to glare at the doorway whoever it was would have to come through, trying to move as little as possible so I didn't disturb Steve.
After a few seconds, Tony and Bruce appeared, chatting away about some science project or other they were working on. They stopped short when they saw me, and Tony opened his mouth (probably to ask why I was glaring), but he stopped short when I put my finger to my mouth in an aggressive shushing gesture.
They both gave me questioning looks, so I pointed sharply at Steve, who by some miracle was still passed out on top of me. He must've really been exhausted to sleep through the noise and activity no matter how hard I'd been trying to limit it.
Bruce and Tony tiptoed over until they got close enough to see Steve. Bruce nodded and clearly understood why he needed to be quiet. Tony got an evil gleam in his eye.
"Hey!" I hissed, smacking him in the arm to get him to look at me. Our eyes locked, and I slowly shook my head, giving him a stare that promised death and pain if he acted on whatever idea was clearly bouncing around in his head.
I could literally see the gears turning in Stark's head as he weighed his options. Bruce put a hand on his shoulder and nodded towards the lab, giving Tony another activity to do other than messing with my boyfriend, which I appreciated. Still, it took Tony a minute to consider. And I didn't let up with my stare once during that minute.
Fortunately for Steve, although I wasn't as involved in the superhero business as I used to be, I'd proven time and time again that I could hang with the assassins in our group skill-wise, which made me a dangerous enemy if someone in the Tower chose to piss me off.
After a little bit more considering, Tony seemed to remember this, and my history in the training room and on the battlefield won out. He rolled his eyes and huffed, but turned and headed for the lab instead of waking up Steve. Bruce smiled, giving me a wave as he headed off with Tony. I waved back and watched the two men disappear, then went back to gently stroking Steve's hair.
Absolutely nobody was going to get in the way of him getting some much needed rest if I had anything to say about it. The two of us were too comfortable, and cuddling on the couch was too rare to shorten it any more than we absolutely had to.
Maybe one day, when the younger generation of superheroes were ready to take over, Steve and I could relax and retire and do this more often. But for now, I was going to take every moment I could get.

for @thefreakandthehair (and @vecnuthy and @wormdebut while we’re at it) because sometimes you help a baseball player through French class so they can stay on the team and then they end up on the Savannah bananas and you decide to put the fictional men into situations about it *shrugs*
Eddie was going to have to transfer out of this class. This was one of his easiest classes and it was filled with every jock on campus attempting to fill their foreign language requirement with French.
And they were all failing. And annoying. And obnoxious.
And a few of them were also hot.
But Eddie wasn’t gonna focus on that!
He was gonna finish today’s assignment and then head straight to the advising office to find another class that worked with his work schedule.
“Hey,” the guy next to him whispered as the teacher droned on about conjugating verbs. “Do you have any idea what the fuck the homework was?”
Eddie turned to glare at the person, but his face dropped when he noticed who it was.
The campus celebrity: Steve Harrington.
Couldn’t quite make it on the college baseball team, but managed to make the sort-of professional, but mostly joke team Hawkins Hooligans.
Eddie didn’t like sports, never had. He could appreciate that it took skill and whatnot, but he didn’t care much to watch it or make celebrities of people who were just really good at one very specific thing usually involving some kind of ball. But he could appreciate a joke. And this team had jokes.
Steve was actually apparently good enough to play pro, had even been scouted by the MLB his senior year of high school. One week before his professional tryout, he tore a muscle in his shoulder, had to sit for three months and had to do physical therapy for another three, and voila! No pro ball for him. No college either since he missed spring training.
But he still had skill, and he still had a father with a lot of pull in the business, even if it wasn’t quite enough to get him on the Yankees or whatever.
So he was biding his time on the Hooligans until next year when he could try out for the college team again, maybe increase his chances of a real pro career.
Eddie definitely hadn’t watched videos of him during their first few games of the season where they faced the Indy Idols and the Chicago Charades.
He definitely hadn’t gotten a weird flutter in his stomach when Steve had been the one to lip sync to Hot For Teacher while pretending his bat was a guitar.
He definitely didn’t have a crush on Steve.
“Uh. Dude?” Steve asked him again, shaking him out of his thoughts.
“Yeah. It was the study guide for the first quiz. Not due until next class though,” he whispered back.
“Oh. Thanks.”
Eddie turned his attention back to the professor, not really needing to pay attention since he already knew quite a bit of French.
A tap on his shoulder made him yelp, and the entire room turned to him. He waved apologetically before turning to Steve with a murderous look.
“What?” He hissed out.
“Do you understand this?”
“Yes and you probably would too if you stopped talking to me.”
Eddie was ignoring the voice in his head screaming at him to let Steve keep talking to him for as long as he wanted.
“I don’t think that’s it,” Steve huffed before sitting back in his seat and folding his arms across his chest. He mumbled something else that sounded like ‘I’m just stupid’ but Eddie couldn’t be 100% sure.
“A lot of this stuff is just English spelled a little differently.” Eddie sighed. “You could almost definitely figure it out if you took some notes.”
“Yeah, probably.”
Eddie’s brows scrunched together as he glanced at Steve’s red face.
Hm. There was definitely something to unpack here.
“You can borrow mine if you want,” Eddie offered as he watched the professor switch slides on the presentation. “I don’t really need them until the final.”
“Oh!” Steve sounded genuinely surprised by his offer, like he hadn’t been basically asking for help only a moment ago. “You don’t have to do that. I mean, it wouldn’t do much good for me anyway.”
“What do you mean?” Steve had Eddie’s full attention now.
“I’m. I-“ Steve sighed. “I’m dyslexic, man. Reading’s hard for me.”
Well, fuck. Eddie felt like an asshole now.
“Oh.” Eddie looked down at his scribbled notes, cringing at the thought of someone else trying to read them, let alone someone who already struggled with reading from a printed page. “Yeah, my handwriting is shit so it’d probably be useless to you. Shit, it’s almost useless to me.”
Steve snorted, immediately covering his mouth to avoid any more noise from escaping. Eddie could see he was still smiling though. His eyes were very expressive.
“Don’t you have accommodations?” Eddie asked him.
“Nah, my dad doesn’t believe it’s a problem.” Steve rolled his eyes. “Said I just need to focus more and it’ll ‘work itself out.’”
“He sounds like he’s a lot of fun at parties.”
Steve snorted again. “Yeah, a blast.”
“So you aren’t a natural at French?”
Steve shook his head. “I’m barely a natural at English.”
“I could help you?” Eddie was an idiot. An idiot with a crush on someone who would never be interested in anything he had to offer except tutoring.
“Help me? You’d help me?” Steve seemed eager, maybe a little desperate.
Eddie kinda liked that.
“I mean, yeah. If you’re actually willing to put in the work and not expect me to just do the work for you.”
Steve smiled. God, that was a nice smile. Eddie was absolutely fucked.
“I work well with a reward system,” he smirked. “If you’re willing.”
Eddie’s eyes widened momentarily as the realization sunk in that he’d just been flirted with.
By Steve Harrington.
“Oh, I can definitely work with that.”
Steve nodded once, grinned at Eddie as he picked up his pen and ripped off a small piece of his unused notebook paper. He scribbled something down and folded it once before handing it to Eddie.
“Let me know when I need to show up, Eds.”
Eddie unfolded the paper and nearly dropped it.
Stevie H. 555-555-0086 My dorm at 7? No clothes required
When Eddie looked back up, Steve was facing the front, seemingly paying attention to the lecture.
Eddie quickly pulled his phone from his pocket and put Steve’s contact info in. He could wait until after class to send him a text. He could.
Instead, he typed out something quick to hold them both over until later.
Studying naked is my favorite thing 😉
Steve’s knee nudged against his in response.
Maybe Eddie wouldn’t take that trip to advising after all.
And if he was featured on the next TikTok for the Hawkins Hooligans, with Steve fake serenading him in the stands, nobody had to know he didn’t really like sports.
He liked Steve, though. Even when Steve actually managed to play real competitive baseball. Even when Steve managed to get a spot on the Cubs.
Especially when Steve proposed to him during a game in maybe the worst recorded French of all time.

(It was based on a take I saw earlier today but I think it got deleted)
"Why don't you like me?" Steve asks, not meeting his eyes.
They were on the new Hopper-Byers's back porch, a little bit after dark. The rest of the party had gone inside a while ago but Steve wanted a smoke and Eddie decided to have one as well. It was quite chilly for a summer night, and the wind made both of them shiever a bit.
"Excuse me?!" Eddie replied, after a half a minute of confusion. "Who said I didn't like you?"
"C'mon, man, I know the kids say it a lot, but I'm not actually an idiot!"
"What the fuck are you talking about, princess?"
"See?! Right there! Look, I just don't get it. I know you overheard that conversation I had with Will last week, but I thought you were all for that non-conformist bullshit, and let me tell you, fucking with someone because of their sexuality is very "the man" of you!" His voice was still hushed, but Steve had turned all the way to Eddie's direction now, glaring at the metalhead with what he tried to make look like defiance on his eyes, but were clearly just hurt.
"Steve-"
"The thing is, you've been treating Will just like always, so maybe that isn't it, wich is so more confusing, because I really thought we were getting closer, but now you keep making these jokes and... I don't get it! Did I do something wrong?"
"What?! No--" the other tried to interrupt, but Steve's rambling just kept on coming.
"Is it because of high school? Is the ‘princess’ thing some kind of payback for the whole King Steve bullshit? Dude, I know I was a douchebag- hmpf!"
Eddie, sensing Steve was about to spiral, clasped his hand on top of the boy's mouth.
"Stevie, I'm going to need you to stop right there, okay?" His voice was calm, but his heart was racing. Steve's eyes were wide, his cheeks pink, and Eddie couldn't help but notice how much closer they were now. "I'm so sorry I made you feel like I was mocking you. That was definitely not the intention. The total opposite, actually.” Steve made a questioning noise behind the ringed hand “The princess thing was me being an idiot, actually. I was just..” Deep breath in, deep breath out. “I was trying to flirt with you, sweetheart. Apparently, I’m really bad at it.”

Eddie always tries to be as quiet as he can when he gets home from late shifts at the bar – holding his keys tightly so they don’t jangle too much and avoiding turning on lights if he can help it. Steve is usually asleep by the time he makes it home smelling of greasy bar food and whatever beer blew its keg that evening all over his uniform tee, and Eddie hates waking him. His boyfriend doesn’t get much sleep as it is. The last thing he needs is for Eddie to come tumbling through the door and interrupting the precious few hours he gets every night.
So every time Eddie gets home from work in the earliest hours of the new day, he tries to be as quiet as possible.
And every time, Steve wakes up anyways.
Contrary to what most people might assume, it’s actually not Eddie’s fault that Steve can never sleep through his homecomings. (Years of living in a thin-walled trailer with a man who worked nights and slept during the days made him a master of moving stealthily through his home, after all.) It’s just that Steve Harrington is the lightest sleeper who’s ever lived.
According to Steve, he wasn’t always this way – he used to sleep through alarm clocks and his mother banging on his bedroom door to get him up for school, when he was younger. No, the light sleeper thing didn’t start until after Steve learned that monsters were real, and it only got worse after Upside Down Part 2: Electric Boogaloo, when suddenly he had a whole troupe of children to worry about all night. Every little creak of the floorboards could be a demogorgon, or a preteen in need of help fighting off a pack of demodogs. Faint police sirens in the distance could be headed to Steve’s house, where some uniformed cop would come knock on the door and tell him that something had happened to one of the kids.
It sounds like a nightmare, in Eddie’s opinion – not being able to sleep more than a handful of hours a night – but Steve always shrugs it off, like he’s already gotten so used to it that he hardly notices it anymore, and Eddie thinks that might be the case. It makes him feel horribly guilty (and maybe a little sad) whenever Eddie is the cause of Steve’s late-night wakefulness, but despite his desire for his boyfriend to get the sleep he needs, Eddie can never quite force himself to be too upset whenever Steve stirs as Eddie tiptoes into their shared bedroom.
Because sleepy Steve Harrington is, frankly, infuriatingly adorable, and tonight is no exception.
He hears, rather than sees, Steve wake up in the darkness of their room. It starts with a little snuffle, then a rustling of bedsheets, and finally – like always – a gravelly, endearingly hopeful, “Eds?”
Eddie’s heart warms in his chest, melting away the ice left there by a long shift dealing with drunk idiots and coworkers who would rather bitch about their jobs than actually do them. His job is exhausting at the best of times, and downright soul-sucking at the worst, but it’s okay, because at least at the end of the day, he gets to come home to this.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he sighs tiredly, ignoring the part of him that balks at being foiled again in his quest to let Steve get some sleep. Carefully, he toes off his shoes and makes his way to the edge of the bed so he can brush a few messy strands of hair from Steve’s forehead.
Steve instantly tilts his head to press into the touch, and Eddie can’t help but smile. “Wha’time s’it?” Steve slurs.
Eddie glances at the clock on their bedside table and nearly winces when he sees just how late it is. “Almost two,” he murmurs guiltily. He can see Steve’s mouth turn down into a frown now that his eyes have adjusted to the lack of light.
“S’late,” Steve mumbles. He rolls onto his side and reaches blindly for Eddie, hand eventually wrapping around Eddie’s bony wrist and squeezing gently in a mostly subconscious show of sympathy. His eyes blink open – bleary and unfocused – and scan over Eddie’s face. “Everything ‘kay?” Even half-asleep, he’s a worrier. Eddie finds it both endearing and a little heartbreaking.
He smiles, despite himself, and begins to card his fingers through Steve’s sleep-mussed hair, an unbearably fond feeling settling in his belly when Steve lets his eyes flutter shut again. “Yeah, sweetheart, everything’s fine,” he assures his tired boyfriend. “Just a long night. Pacers game a few blocks down, y’know? Spent a whole extra hour after close catching up on bar dishes.”
Steve furrows his brow and makes a discontented noise. “Gross,” he mutters, and Eddie huffs out a laugh. God, he is so stupidly in love with this beautiful, bitchy man.
“Very,” he hums in agreement.
“Y’should come to bed,” Steve says, and his voice is almost whiny, just like it always is when he tries to coax Eddie into their bed without a proper shower. He does it almost every night, and it almost never works. It’s certainly not going to work tonight, with Eddie smelling of shitty beer and grease.
“In a bit,” Eddie sighs, bending to press a kiss to Steve’s temple. “Gotta shower first.”
Steve properly whines at that, petulantly mumbling something incoherent.
“Baby, I’m covered in Miller and fryer grease. Do you really want me getting that shit all over our pillowcases?” Eddie says fondly.
“I want you to come cuddle with me,” Steve grumbles.
It takes more effort than is probably reasonable for Eddie to stifle the cackle threatening to burst from his chest. “In a few minutes, ‘kay? Just gonna go wash off real quick, and then I’ll come cuddle, you needy little bastard.”
“You’d better,” Steve says not at all threateningly. Eddie just laughs and kisses his forehead again before dragging himself away and into their little apartment bathroom for a quick shower. There’s a ninety percent chance Steve will be asleep again by the time Eddie makes it into bed, in ten minutes, so he can’t really bring himself to feel too guilty.
Still, true to his word, he showers quickly – rinsing all of the greasy smell out of his hair and scrubbing the spilled beer from his skin. He uses the bergamot soap Steve got him for Christmas, because he knows Steve likes it, and Eddie likes when Steve likes things. (And he’ll never admit this, but he doesn’t hate the smell of bergamot, either.)
When he’s finished, he quickly towels himself off and slips on the pair of plaid boxers Steve left out on the bathroom counter for him earlier (just one of those little, caring things that Steve does every day that make Eddie love him all the more). He plaits his wet curls so he doesn’t wake up with hair worse than Doc from Back to the Future, then he finally, finally, makes his way to bed.
Steve’s breathing is a slow, steady rhythm, but the way he instantly shifts closer to Eddie the moment he climbs into bed is a clear indicator that he hasn’t quite managed to fall back to sleep yet. Eddie has hardly had a chance to pull the covers up before Steve is pushing back into him, silently demanding the safety of his arms.
Eddie is all too happy to oblige.
It’s automatic and achingly familiar when Eddie rolls onto his side and wraps his arms around Steve, pulling his boyfriend close so Steve’s back is pressed to his front. Even then, it doesn’t seem to be close enough for Steve, who wiggles back even further until it nearly becomes impossible to tell where he ends and Eddie begins. It’s so disgustingly sweet that Eddie sort of wants to cry. Instead, he buries his nose in the crook of Steve’s neck and leaves a soft kiss just behind his ear.
“Hi, baby,” Eddie breathes as Steve rests one of his hands atop the one Eddie has tucked under his side and laces their fingers together. He leans forward slightly to kiss Steve’s cheek, just because he can, and before he can pull away to settle against the pillow, Steve turns his head to capture Eddie’s lips in a soft, barely-there kiss. The kind of kiss that instantly settles even the most frantic parts of Eddie’s soul.
“Hey,” Steve murmurs, lips still brushing together, and Eddie can both hear and feel the way his mouth has curved upwards into a smile. Eddie gives him one more peck on the lips before they both fall into their pillows again. “Missed you,” Steve whispers. It makes Eddie smile and shake his head with tired amusement.
“Missed you, too,” he whispers, even though it’s only been ten or so hours since they last saw each other. Christ, when did he become such a goddamn sap?
(He knows the answer to that question, obviously. Eddie “The Freak” became Eddie “The Sap” the first time Steve Harrington looked at him with that secret little smile on his face – the one he reserves for Eddie and Eddie alone, these days. The one that silently says, I love you.)
Steve hums contentedly and snuggles deeper into Eddie. God, he’s so fucking sweet like this. Eddie loves him so fucking much.
“Go back to sleep, sweetheart,” Eddie says softly, moving his free hand to run his fingers through Steve’s hair, because he knows it helps his baby sleep.
Steve’s voice is already sleepy again when he murmurs, “’kay,” and then, even softer: “Love you.”
Eddie smiles. Holds Steve just a little bit tighter. Gives Steve’s hand an extra little squeeze and marvels at the fact that after everything – after murder accusations and monsters and government payouts and three fucking years as a senior at Hawkins High – he gets to have this. And sure, maybe he’s feeling a little extra sappy because of the simple ring he’s got buried in his guitar case – the one Robin helped him pick out just a few days ago, even though they can’t technically get married in the state of Indiana. Maybe that’s why he smiles a bit wider tonight with Steve in his arms…why his heart thumps a bit harder at every sleepy snuffle his boyfriend makes…
But the sappiness stopped bothering him a long time ago, when his sharpest edges were sanded out by the presence of the little family he found in the aftermath of the Upside Down, so Eddie doesn’t mind. Soon, he’ll be able to fall asleep next to his fiancé, instead of his boyfriend. They’ll get to call all of their adoptive rugrats and tell them the news, and Steve will be beaming so brightly it might just blind him. And it’ll be perfect.
For now, Eddie just lets himself sink into the warmth of having Steve Harrington in his arms.
And he sleeps.
This is for @steddie-week Day 5: Established Relationship. Just a little ficlet that popped into my head at literally 2 in the morning. I hope y'all enjoy!

Steve is aware that he looks good.
He knows that if he wears the blue jeans that are just a tiny bit too small, Eddie will spend the whole day staring at his ass. He wears shiny lip gloss on purpose because it makes his lips look kissable and so, so pink. Eddie hardly lets him get a word out before he's got his tongue down Steve's throat when he's wearing lip gloss. He loves to guess what flavour Steve's wearing. Steve wears his hair slightly messy because he loves the way Eddie will pull him close to run his fingers through it as an excuse to 'fix it'.
He's very aware of the effect he has on Eddie, and he uses it to his advantage.
Eddie, on the other hand, has no idea what kind of effect he has on Steve. Half the time, he doesn't even put any effort into his outfit, and Steve still has to dig his nails into his palms to stop himself from jumping Eddie's bones. He shows up on Steve's doorstep in a muscle tee and ripped jeans and Steve will instantly have his hands all over him because how dare he look so good while wearing a ketchup stained shirt. Eddie will turn around in the bathroom and ask if his smudged eye-liner looks OK and then act shocked when Steve grumbles out a reply and falls to his knees and tucks his hair behind his ears.
"You're killing me." Steve whines when Eddie pulls on a cropped band shirt and sweatpants that sit low on his slim hips.
And Eddie just stares at him like he's grown three heads. "Babe, I wear this to bed every night." He doesn't get it. He doesn't understand how much power his tiny little waist and oblivious nature has over Steve.

Three Dinguses And a Baby Also on ao3
Nobody had heard from Steve in days.
It was a little concerning, the guy seemed to always be around, and for him to just go off the grid like this… It was highly unusual. Now, Eddie, personally, wasn’t worried, maybe a little curious, but he was not worried. Robin and the kids? Yeah, but him? No. Not at all.
And because he was so unconcerned, he dropped by Steve’s house, Robin and kids in tow.
“Steve, open up man! You good in there?” Eddie asked loudly, banging on the front door. Distantly, Eddie could hear a baby crying, now what the fuck was that about? He pounded on the door again, “Dude, seriously.” He called, looking over to Robin who was wringing her hands together nervously. He heard some shuffling from the other side of the door.
It swung open to reveal a half dead looking Steve Harrington. “Hey.”
“Hey? Dingus, we thought you were dead!” Robin screeched, Steve raised a hand, “Shh. Please, I just got her to go down.” Eddie arched an eyebrow. The crying he heard from earlier resumed, “Oh fuck. Okay. okay. Come in, just be quiet please.” Steve said, practically stumbling as he opened the door for the group to pile in.
They gathered semi-awkwardly in the living room as Steve disappeared into the depths of the house, the crying getting louder as Steve returned with a small bundle cradled carefully in his arms. He was bouncing the figure slightly, humming softly as he did so. “Steve, what the fuck,” Eddie couldn’t stop the words before they were tumbling out of his mouth. He watched as Steve sighed, taking in the bags that hung around his eyes. “That’s a baby, Steve.” Dustin practically whispered as the baby finally stopped crying.
They watched close as Steve shuffled over to the couch, plopping down gently, settling the baby on his lap. “This is Florence, she’s my moms but. I guess my mom got if fucked up on the birth certificate because she wrote Stephano the third instead of the second, so now she’s legally mine. My dad wants nothing to do with her.” Steve blew out a puff of air, rubbing a gentle hand over Florence’s head. “I’ve been calling her Flo, uh. She likes to cry. A lot. In the middle of the night… So.” Eddie sighed, scrubbing a hand over his face, “Dude. When’s the last time you got some sleep?” Steve shrugged, “Uh, I think I’ve gotten a few hours since Flo’s been here… She got here… Uh. Monday, I think?” Robin’s jaw dropped, “Steve, it’s friday. Why didn’t you call anyone for help?”
Steve shook his head, letting it fall back onto the couch. “I didn’t realize it had been that long, I’m sorry.” He trailed tiredly. The kids had now gathered on the floor, grabbing pillows and blankets and piling them up into some sort of nest. Eddie shifted, reaching for the tiny human in Steve’s arms. “Woah, uh.” Steve said, sitting up. “It’s cool, Stevie. I used to babysit all the time. I got her.” Eddie soothed, cuddling Flo close as Steve handed her over.
“Get some sleep, Steve-o. You need it, bad.” Eddie instructed gently, Robin nodding in agreement, “Yeah man. You look like shit.” She said, not so gently. Her statement went unnoticed though, because as soon as Eddie had a hold of Flo, Steve was out like a light, drool and all.
Eddie could see the resemblance between him and his sister, especially with the matching drool running down both their sleeping faces. Eddie smiled fondly as he watched Steve sleep, only breaking out of his trance when Robin smacked him lightly on the arm, careful not to disturb Flo. “Dude, you got a crush on him or something?” Eddie had the decency to look shocked, “Wh- What. Psh, no.” He spluttered, flipping Dustin off when he turned around with a ‘really?’ look on his face. “Mind your business, Henderson.” Dustin turned around rolling his eyes, returning to his conversation with the other kids.
Robin was still looking at him, “You do, don't you?” She asked softly. Eddie sighed, nodding. “I mean, I didn’t- ugh. He’s a good guy y’know? I just. Why did it have to be him? I mean… He’s straight.” Robin looked at him, shrugging, “I mean. You never know…” She said Eddie turned to her, “Are you saying King Steve isn't straight?” Eddie asked incredulously. Robin shrugged again, raising her hands. “Look, all I’m saying is he’s explained to me his fantasies about Han Solo…” Eddie laughed, “He has fantasies about Han Solo?” Robin nodded, “Yup,” She said, popping the ‘p’ “Heard ‘em myself.”
“In my defense, Han Solo is hot, Rob.” Steve said groggily, sitting up, watching as Eddie swallowed nervously. “Don’t worry Eds. I like you too. Ever since you pressed that bottle to my neck, ‘n if I’m being honest, you holding Flo right now only makes it worse.” Steve explained tiredly, shifting until his head was resting on Eddie’s shoulder. “We’ll talk properly later.” He said, nuzzling in, missing the way Edddie’s face had turned bright red. Robin looked at the two, a grin spreading across her face, “Told ya. Say ‘Hello’ to parenthood, Munson.” She laughed, patting him on the back, and settling into the couch for a nap, or what seemed to be the activity of the day, Eddie decided, looking around at the sleeping bodies. He sighed, looking at Flo, “Nap time it is, huh, Kid?” He said, hoisting her up onto his shoulder, holding her in place, and resting his eyes with everyone else.
When he woke up, Flo was no longer in his arms, and the kids and Robin were gone too, along with Steve, who he could hear in the kitchen, relaxing him a bit. He stood up, stretching his back, sighing as it popped and cracked from sleeping on the couch.
He wandered into the kitchen, almost falling in love with the sight in front of him. Steve was holding Flo, dancing gently around the kitchen with her in his arms as he prepared a bottle. “G’mornin’ Eds!” Steve cheered, seeming much more rested than when he last saw him. Eddie arched an eyebrow, checking his watch, gasping lightly in surprise when he realized he’d slept through the night and into the next day, no wonder his back was all jacked up. Steve walked over to him, leaning against him, sighing as Eddie wrapped his arms around him and Flo. “I know we need to talk, but let me say this before we get all serious, I’m bisexual, this isn’t some type of experiment for me, I- I’m falling in love with you Eddie.” Steve looked up at him, tears brimming his eyes, Eddie sighed, leaning further into the hug. “Stevie. I’m falling in love with you too.”
“Really?”
“Mhm. I’m gonna kiss you now.”
“Kay,” He said, meeting Eddie’s lips in a sweet kiss, minding the baby in his arms. They pulled a part with a smooch, “We’re gonna have to get Rob to babysit,” Eddie said before leaning in to place another peck on Steve’s lips.
“Oh gross!”
Eddie turned around, looking at Robin and the kids who’d let themselves in, holding bags of what Eddie could only guess was the holy grail of Mcdonalds breakfast. “Oh shit, breakfast?” Robin rolled her eyes, handing him the bag, “Here you go, you animal.”
They all moved to sit around the table, eating their respective breakfasts, and talking about the dreams they’d had the night before. Steve was feeding Flo, holding her close and rubbing her belly so she didn’t get a tummy ache. Robin watched as Eddie’s eyes sparkled at the sight and she grinned, leaning over, “We make a cute family, don’t ya think?” She cooed, partially teasing. Eddie shoved her lightly, “Yeah,” he sighed, eyes still on Steve, listening to the older kids laugh as Flo burps. “We really do.”

This is eating me up inside, I genuinely want to know why is Steve so okay with putting himself down and everyone just thinks it’s fine? Like no one questions why he thinks so lowly of himself even though he’s done a lot to prove that he’s more than what the show let on. I think it’s weird how in a conversation he’ll slip in comments about himself that are negative. I also think it’s so gross that he can’t have a moment of confusion without being disrespected and I know it’s supposed to be funny but at a certain point someone should really ask “is Steve okay?” I can bet money that the answer won’t be yes.
I also want to add how come Eddie (someone who doesn’t even know Steve from a can of paint other than school) find something nice to say about him and not put him down. This also adds to my list why I think steddie is real but that’s for another time

thinking about steve answering the door of eddie’s trailer after staying the night, wearing just boxers and eddie’s hellfire shirt. his hair is a mess and he’s all sleep-soft, there’s definitely a few hickies on his neck, he’s rubbing at his eyes and yawning, and he definitely just woke up.
he opens his eyes to see max’s shocked face right as it turns into a knowing smirk. he groans; she’s going to be absolutely insufferable about this.
steve can hear eddie bumbling around the trailer behind him, and responds to eddie’s yell of who is it? with an eye roll and it’s mayfield!
the noise from inside stops and eddie wanders to the door, peeking over steve’s shoulder with narrowed eyes.
“whaddya want, red?”
max smirk grows when she sees eddie looking similarly rumpled, and she shrugs.
“i was gonna ask for a ride but clearly you two are busy so,” she snickers, “i’ll ask again later.”
with that she turns and walks down the porch steps, leaving them staring after her in confusion.
steve closes the door behind him and leans against it, his hands covering his burning face.
eddie, assuming that steve is panicking about max knowing, tries to reassure him.
“red wont tell anyone until you’re ready, i’ll make sure of it.”
steve looks up incredulously, mind buffering before he realizes what eddie thinks is happening.
“they all already know i like guys,” he waves away eddie’s concern, “it’s not that.”
“what is it then?” eddie asks, lost.
steve blushes and says “that was so fucking awkward! we totally look like we hooked up!”
“well,” eddie argues, “we did.”
steve groans and pushes eddie’s grinning face away.
“you know what i mean asshole.”
***
“you owe me ten dollars,” max crows into the walkie.
dustin screeches "what?!?" right as max holds the walkie away from her ear (it's instinct at this point whenever she radios dustin).
"ten dollars, dustybun!"
"how- when- MAX??" dustin splutters.
max just laughs and turns off the walkie; he'll figure it out eventually

After the town insists on calling his club a cult and he ends up framed for murder:
Eddie: Well, it wasn't going to be a cult before. It certainly is now!
Just out of sheer pettiness.
Steve: *reading the newspaper with his glasses on his nose* Yeah, that would be a no, Eddie.
Eddie: That would be a yes, Steve.
Steve: *without looking up* And what would your cult be doing?
Eddie: Evil stuff.
Steve: *scoffs* Sure.
His new cult ended up mostly rescuing cats and finding them homes when Eddie started driving around town trying to find evil stuff for him to do. Word got around about his rescuing cats, and they realized that they had been wrong about him all along.
Eddie: I don't understand why they're no longer afraid of me and my new cult.
Steve stared at him. Eddie was currently sitting on the floor with a kitten sleeping in his front vest pocket and more climbing over him. Steve watched one jump from his shoulder to the top of his head.
Steve: You got me. You look absolutely terrifying.

It’s barely hit 9pm when Eddie muffles a yawn against Steve’s shoulder and murmurs, “Steve.”
“Yeah?”
“My eyes keep closing.”
Steve smiles. Traces a soothing, circular path along Eddie’s scalp. “That’s okay.”
“No.”
“No?”
“Don’t wanna…” Eddie trails off for a moment; Steve feels his body relaxing further, slumping against him. “Don’t wanna miss it.”
Steve raises an eyebrow. The Golden Girls is playing in the background. “Uh, I mean. I could tape it?”
“No,” Eddie repeats, and his hand clumsily pats Steve’s cheek. “Don’t wanna miss it.”
Steve presses his lips to the warmth of Eddie’s palm. “Ah,” he says, gently teasing, “‘cause saying the same thing twice definitely makes sense.”
Eddie tsks. He prods with one finger at Steve’s jaw.
“Ow,” Steve laughs.
It doesn’t hurt at all.
“Talkin’ ‘bout you,” Eddie says, “Steve Harrington.”
And there’s the way he says Steve’s name, all rounded, like he’s savouring each syllable.
“There’s so much… so much goin’ on in there,” Eddie continues. Tap, tap, taps across Steve’s face. “You’d…” A sleepy huff of laughter. “You’d be a terrible spy.”
“Thanks,” Steve says dryly.
“Steeeve,” Eddie says, lilting into a song of his own creation. “Steve, Steve, Steve. S’a compliment.”
“Yeah, you’re a regular charmer.”
“I mean—” Eddie yawns again. “Mean it. Y’know, in… in school. Even if your… words were… your eyes, they… they’d always say s’actly what you were thinkin’.”
“In school?” Steve says. You noticed me? “Like when?”
It’s a blatant prompt, a wish for something more, but he can’t help it. Eddie smiles indulgently.
“Jus’ b’fore you graduated. First period. Asked you for a pen. Your mouth said sure an’ your eyes said forgetful prick.”
Steve laughs. “Fuck off, no they didn’t.”
He can feel Eddie’s giggles reverberating through him.
“Only kidding.” Eddie mimes like Robin does, indicating a tiny amount with his thumb and forefinger. “Half kidding.”
“Uh-huh.”
Eddie tilts his head from where it rests on Steve’s shoulder, eyes blinking languidly, as if he’s suddenly really putting the effort in to keep them open. As if this is something important.
“Y’know, in school I always tried to… notice things. People. Like, who ate lunch alone, or… Didn’t want anyone to, uh. Slip through the cracks.” Eddie sighs, a little melancholy. “Still missed stuff, though.”
Steve runs a hand through his hair. “You’re only human.”
You were trying. You cared. That’s enough.
Eddie gives a bittersweet hum. “Knew I missed stuff with you,” he says. “Makes sense now, but back then… Could never figure it out. Jus’ knew you were suddenly, like… at the end of a book or something, an’ I’d barely started the first page. And you’d… you’d look so…” Another sigh. “Not… not quite sad, but… like you knew something. Something you couldn’t… walk away from.” Steve’s nose suddenly stings.
“S’why I don’t wanna miss it,” Eddie says. “Don’t wanna waste a second.” He smiles again, eyelids heavy. “There’s whole stories in your eyes, Steve Harrington.”
For a moment, Steve can’t speak for the enormity of it: the fact that he’s just heard probably the most romantic thing in the world, and it’s about him.
For a moment, it makes him brave.
“You’re not gonna miss anything if you dream about me.”
Eddie laughs. “Wow,” he says, drawn out, and the end of it turns into a yawn, then a drowsy sigh. His eyelids droop… flicker… close. “Presumptuous and corny.”
But Steve can hear the fondness in it—like maybe Eddie thinks he’s heard the most romantic thing, too.
“Yeah,” he agrees. Then, softer, “Can’t help what you turn me into.”
“Hmm?” Eddie mumbles, like he’s trying his best, but the thread of the conversation is still running away from him, getting lost to his dreams.
“Shh,” Steve says. He shifts until he’s lying on his back, gently guides Eddie down with him. “G’night.”
He feels Eddie breathing against his shoulder.
“Night,” Eddie whispers. “Night, night, night…”
Steve smiles; Eddie repeats stuff when he’s drifting off, has even had whole circular conversations with Dustin about whatever movie they happen to be watching.
“G’night,” Steve says again, and he almost says something more. Doesn’t—because Eddie’s breaths are truly heavy with sleep now.
Maybe he could already read it in Steve’s eyes. Maybe, just maybe, he’ll dream about it until Steve can say it for real.
