Mika makes her way up the stairs, a mix of giggles echoing from the slightly opened door just off the upper landing.

"Yes, you're right, I need more blush," She hears Eddie say, "And maybe more of that pink eyeshadow- oh! Purple works too!"

She peaks in through the cracked door just enough to see Eddie sitting cross legged on the floor, and Vivian climbing into his lap to brush something on his face.

The door creaks and he looks over at her.

"No! You have'ta hold still!"

"Sorry, Bug," he leans in close to whisper, "But I think Mommy's spying on us."

There's a quiet thudding of small feet on the floor and the door flies open.

"You are spying!"

"What?! I'm not spying I'm... I want to book a makeover at this beauty salon!"

She looks up when Eddie scoffs. His hair is pulled back with plastic butterfly clips, eyes messily painted with blue and purple eyeshadow, cheeks a deep pink, and lips smeared with a mix of blue and pink lip gloss. She bites her bottom lip to keep from laughing.

"Look lady, I booked this place all day for a private event," He says, "So you're gonna have to wait."

"Don't be mean!" Vivian pouts, she grabs Mika's hand and pulls her into the room, "I can do Mommy's makeup too."

"But we haven't even done my nails yet!"

"You can be patience."

"You be patience," Eddie mutters.

He breaks his grumpy facade just enough to help Mika sit by holding out his hand for her to grab.

Her bump is only just starting to show, but he's been doting on her since they found out baby number two was on the way.

"What kind of makeup do you want?" Viv asks.

"Hmm..." She thinks for a moment, "Something natural, that brings out my cheekbones."

"I got... Pink, and blue, and purple... and green!"

"Wha- you have green?" Eddie balks, "You didn't tell me that! Why couldn't I pick green?"

In regards to this post (https://www.tumblr.com/bookishdiplodocus/736701278145642496/i-know-there-is-quite-a-lot-of-research-about-the), it's more from personal experience and from witnessing the rest of the slef-shipping/self-insert community around me, but I find it pretty therapeutic myself, inserting myself or even just my likeness in an OC into different universes and interacting with favorite characters. For some it's very self-soothing and comforting, and for others it's borderline therapy, and for others still it's simply fun!

I, myself, am working on figuring out my sekf-inserts in all my silly little blorbo universes, and plan to at least plot out every detail of their lives from meeting said blorbo to all the fun and drama that comes with it. It's a happy, fun little hobby for me, and it's actually helped me settle a few personal, internalized issues here and there.

Either way, heavily suggest self-insert writinf. Very very good, top tier, even if you don't share it with the world and keep it for you somewhere.

Looking for a beta reader for:

Title: If We Never Make It Back to California: I Want You to Know I Love You (First of a series, unfinished)

Fandoms: Gravity Falls, Invader Zim, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac (The second part involves The Owl House but the second part isn't public yet)

Other info: Before you ask, I don't have Discord.

Rated M, because I curse so frequently and there's some pretty involved angst and violence, but sexual material is kept to the absolute minimum because I'm NOT very comfortable with sexual content involving characters that are minors in canon. There's also very in-depth discussions of eating disorders, gender dysphoria, and slef-harm. Warnings include Graphic Depictions of Violence and Major Character Death.

The fic is intended for those who have seen Invader Zim in its entirety, and know important context from lost/deleted episodes. ETF and the comics, however, aren't really brought up in the fic. It will likely be confusing to those unfamiliar with Gravity Falls. You could possibly read and understand it if you haven't read JtHM or it's spinoffs, but it probably would hit a little harder if you're at least somewhat familiar with JtHM, Squee, and I Feel Sick. Lots of references to other cartoons.

Genrewise, I'd consider it a mix of just straight up fluff with angst. It has an underlying murder-without-much-mystery plot but it takes a backseat to some mundane, everyday things at times. It's a future-fic that I try to make somewhat trope-aware. It has a crossover ship (Dipper Pines x Dib Membrane) that very much started for Crack Purposes but at this point I'm extremely invested.

Summary (directly from AO3): "Featuring my horrid music taste, eighteen-year-old Dib Membrane drives across states to visit West Virginia, home of his future college. Professor Membrane doesn't approve, and complications arise after his mysterious and conveniently-timed death. But there's always a pair of paranormally-disadvantaged twins across the country for Dib to rely on. They always have their own problems, though, and the involvement of some of Dib's interesting extended family isn't helping his relationship with Dipper Pines- or maybe her relationship? Not even Dib knows. Either way, there are many possibly murderous road trips to be had, body insecurities to be unsuccessfully avoided, the occasional romantic drama for shits-and-giggles, and a coffee-shop side plot here and there.TL;DR: Dib and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Summer"

Common problems you may find: This is my first big fic and I'm not an experienced or "good" writer. I try to keep my spelling and grammar intact, though. I get ranty and occasionally stray out of character, though I try hard to keep it in character, because then what's the point of fanfic? I use crutch words like "smiled" and "sighed" a lot and I feel I may have pacing issues. I'm asking for a beta because I have no idea where these issues actually are, if I use them too much in certain parts, etc. I'm a panster and I tend to DUMP text on the page, accounting for the hefty word count I may need help knowing how to combine scenes or plot points. I also generally like knowing when I've accidentally done something rude, had a plot hole, or made a stupid/juvenile mistake. I also need new chapter names because I started the fic a long time ago, and chose exclusively lyrics from really cringey songs and haven't bothered changing just about anything. Plus I need to get some good foreshadowing in for part two.

Word Count/Update Info: Word count is 104,965 on AO3 but I will send you the link to my Google Doc, where it has the ongoing word count. You will see part two on the doc, but I am only concerned with part one for the time being. I update at least once a month, but sometimes two or three times. The fic is VERY close to finished and my projected word count for part one is 110,000.

So ive seen a lot of discourse on the topic of oc's x canon ships and self insert or self ships. Lots of people argue both are bad. Lots of people argue both are fine, and not bad. I think if you, or your oc are within the age range of the character, or its the opposite and the characyer is near your age range, Ex: you being 14 and the character being 15, and theres no gross stuff like nsfw especially involving kids or noncon, then its fine.

If your a adult like me who self ships or has ocs x canons where i myself am a adult and is the character- then i think its fine. For me its a form of coping and comfort, i take this fictional character and morph it into my own version of the character to ship with, like modifying how they look, giving headcanons etc. The best part is, i dont have shame in showing it because it brings me comfort and happyiness and promotes to other self shippers or oc havers to be happy about their own to.

then thats not ok, like a adult x child ship, or weird gross f3ti1sh stuff. Thats when i understand the hate and genuine discomfort. If you ship yourself with a fictional child as a adult? digusting, please get therapy.

But not all self shippers or oc x canon people are like that thankfully. But all in all, if your not hurting anyone or yourself with your ships, its fine. If people dont like your oc or your self ship they can simply block you and leave, because theres no need to argue about that stuff. Im not gonna give you reasons why i should be allowed to post stuff on a PUBLIC platform where you can easily avoid it.
