Still forming my thoughts on this one but this album makes you think there are two selves in the artist clashing. Pop synth choppy lyrics vs mature artist with purposeful lyrics and beautiful musicality. I’d really like if she could shake free of the synth; like i found myself thinking how nice some of these songs would sound stripped and acoustic. But i digress. It’s definitely a graduated version of that Reputation/Lover era style. And it’s fun in some places I can still hear those bits of storytelling shes been leaning into the past few years. Folklore era and pre reputation era RIP I guess we’re really never going back 100% 🥲

I can’t explain why “but we were at SCHOOL together” is the best running gag in the Jeeves books, it just is. Not even necessarily the funniest, just the best. A pillar of love and guidance because her children may be gone, but she will always be a mother.
