I done did it! A little story for SlyFox Week!
The evidence.
It must be burned!
The evidence was laid out for the inspector to see.
She was in love with that damned thief.
And as they laid there, Sly's arms wrapped gently around her, her mind was going a thousand miles a second. What the hell was she thinking? She's a hardened cop - one of the best Interpol has to offer - not some young girl mixing it up with bad boys who smoke behind school bleachers to make her daddy mad. If anyone were to find this out... they would have her by the balls. Blackmail at best, fired and probably jailed at worse.
She has to destroy it all.
The hickey he gave her. The scent of him on her bed sheets. The tiny bits fur he naturally sheds when he moves around. The flowers, the gifts, the love notes.
Burn all the evidence, leave no trace.
Carmelita shuffled, attempting to get herself free from the raccoon's grasp, but Sly was a strong man when he wanted to be. He kept her tight around the waist, grumbling some nonsense under his breath as he moved just enough to get comfortable again.
"Move it, mapache," she said gruffly. "Bathroom."
It took a moment to register, but Sly eventually moved his arm just enough for her to break free. As soon as she could, she stumbled out of bed and across the way into the bathroom. The faucet sprung to life in the sink, water flowing from the metal object until it was disrupted by the hands of the vixen when she started splashing water on her face. The coolness dripped from her fur but she didn't stop to wait for it to warm up - she prayed the shock would snap her back to her senses. The faucet now off, Carmelita took a good look at herself in the mirror. She looked tired... but strangely happy. Despite the panic and frustration and everything else that rose up in her racing mind, her heart told her to stop.
Breathe.
By God above, when was the last time she was held by someone that cared about her? That didn't send her gifts and talked to her just to get in her pants?
But this was wrong. And stupid. And scary.
Carmelita scared? She laughed bitterly.
"Do you want me to leave, mon amor?"
The sound of her... lover? So close behind her made her flinch. Focusing behind her in the mirror, she saw the figure of Sly Cooper. Rumpled from sleep and other activities but still handsome. The type of roguish handsome that probably broke dozens of hearts.
But he only had eyes for her. She could see it. Felt it. Heard it.
And she?
Well... there was some evidence you just can't get rid of. And if she wasn't careful, her entire career would come crashing down around her.
Would he be there to catch her if it - when that happens?
Burn the evidence.
Burn it.
Burn it.
"Carmelita?"
She turned her her head, face partially obscured by that thick mane of hair, but not so much so that he couldn’t make out the small curve of her lips turn up.
"... no."

Title: Sticky Fingers
Rating: G
Series: Sly Cooper
Characters/Pairings: Sly Cooper/Carmelita
Summary: Sly couldn't resist teaching his young daughter on how to lock pick, but he never counted on his wife finding out.
Archive of our own
Ended up writing this for Slyfox Week for today’s theme “Evidence.”
Note: This takes places years after the events of Sly 3, and Sly 4 never happened.
------------------------------------------------------------
Carmelita was mad. Sly didn’t have to look up to know.. He could feel his wife’s eyes burning into the back of his skull. Slowly, he shut this book and plastered his famous smirk on his face in hopes it would her temper.
It didn’t. She kept glaring.
“What’s up, Honey?” he asked.
Carmelita let loose a very tired sighed as she placed her hands on top of the couch and stared directly into Sly’s eyes.
“Ringtail,” she said with an raised eyebrow, “did you teach our daughter how to pick locks?”
Sly’s ears instantly folded back and he tried to avert his gaze. “Um…”
“Sly?”
He put down his book and wiggled his pointer fingers as air quotes. “Define ‘teach’?”
“Sly.”
“I may have given her some tips, yes.”
His wife groaned as she buried her face into her hands. “Sly!”
Sly tossed his hands up in the air. “I couldn’t resist! She has a knack for it.”
“She’s 4,” Carmelita grumbled as massaged her forehead.
Sly rubbed his neck. “To be fair, I was only 3 when my Dad taught me.” He waved a hand. “Besides, it’s an essential life skill.”
“You and I have different meanings of ‘essential’,” Carmelita grumbled as she placed her hands on her hips.
Sly was about to argue, but then paused and frowned. “Wait, how did you know I taught Ruby how to lock pick?”
His wife suddenly gave a wicked grin. “Oh, I’m so glad you asked, Darling.”
She walked away and gestured for him to follow. No words were said as they approached the kitchen. Silently, Carmelita stepped to the side and pointed. Sly entered and froze.
Normally, the kitchen was spotless with locks on the cupboards. Ruby had achieved climbing before she even took her first step. Sly and Carmelita had to lock up the cupboard to not only ensure Ruby’s safety.
Their plan had always worked, until today. All of the cupboard doors were flung open and their child proof locks were scattered on the floor. At least, what Sly could see on the floor. It was currently coated by white of what he had to assume was a combination of flour, sugar and possibly baking soda.
There were also empty bottles of vanilla, peppermint and syrup and an empty bag of chocolate chips.
His younger daughter sat in the middle of the mess, humming to herself as she stirred a dough-like mixture in her bowl.
Ruby glanced up, and grinned at Sly and didn’t seem to mind the flour in her hair.
“Hi, Daddy!”
Sly forced a smile and waved back. “Hey, Kiddo, what are you doing there?”
“I’m making cookies,” Ruby declared as she dumped what Sly hoped was raisins into the bowl. She gave a slight pout and glanced up. “Could you turn on the oven since you and Mommy say I can’t touch it?”
“Uh, sure in a sec,” Sly said as he retreated out of the kitchen.
Slowly, he turned his gaze to his wife and held up his hands. “I’ll clean it up.”
“Thank you,” Carmelita said as she kissed him on the cheek. “I’m going to take a bath.”
Sly nodded as he ventured back into the kitchen and sat on the floor next to Ruby.
“Alright, Sweetie,” he said as he waved finger.  “Next lesson will be how to hide the evidence.”
“I heard that!”

Are you okay? You've been very quiet lately, just checking in and making sure you're alright
Hello! Yes! I am alive and okay and I am SO very sorry for the radio silence.
Basically I got whammed by three things in July:
1) Having to plan and throw a bachelorette party for a family member who was supposed to get married last month but then didn't, meaning we had to scramble to figure all that out.
2) The next two chapters of the fic had to be completely scrapped/reworked because I realized the rough drafts were too similar to each other and just weren't that great in general, which killed my motivation quite a bit for a while.
2) Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart came out on PC and unfortunately for Sly, that series is one of my other long-time game loves so that's where a lot of my free time went lmao.
THAT BEING SAID. I've finally found my writing mojo again and am going to get the next chapter out sometime this week if it kills me. Appreciate the check-in, that's very kind!

Carmelita, in the light of the open fridge, somehow looked even more tired. “This isn’t funny.”
“You’re right,” Sly somehow managed, amusement clear in his voice, “this is unacceptable!”

Marquise Daydream
Sly groggily hobbled over to the buzzing coffee machine, pulling the pot free and pouring himself a cup. The sensation of the drink hitting the cup immediately, unpleasantly startled him, forcing him to be a bit more awake than he had wanted to be and leaving the tips of his fingers on high alert.
"Everything alright, pal?"
Murray had turned to watch Sly when he had begun to stir from his nap. Turning to face him now, he studied his recently awoken friend and recognized his struggle.
"Yeah, it's alright, Murray. Just grabbing some coffee before we get to it. Say, where's Bentley?"
"Oh, he said he was out for some reconna-... Some, uh, some recon before you went out for the job."
"Right. I guess there's some more time to spare, then."
Sly sat himself next to Murray, eyeing the monitor keeping track of Bentley's position and binocucom feed. He stared at it idly, letting his focus wander, and his mind follow in turn.
Breaking the silence, Murray leaned over to Sly, who didn't seem to respond.
"Something on your mind?"
Nearly spilling his coffee, Sly gave Murray a look, but nodded after falling back into his unrested attitude.
"There was something. I've been having this dream lately. It's been bothering me."
"Oh, the guru taught me all about dreams! Lay it on me, buddy."
Sly smirked as Murray perked up, happy to have a way to ease into the night he'd just woken up to.
"Like just about every night, we're planning a heist. Well, I say 'we', but really, it's just me. I case the joint, and security is always tight. Total lockdown. Even for me, it's a dangerous job. Eventually, I get in there, and I'm standing right in front of this diamond. The rock is about the size of a fist, and it's cut into this beautiful shape, too. I've never seen anything like it. But, whenever I go for it, I feel like it's pushing me away. I can feel this, pressure, closing in, I assume it's the guards, but I can never really bring myself to follow through with the steal. I leave a card every time, but in the moment I wake up, I almost have to wonder if it's worth showing up at all just to walk away empty handed."
Sly takes a sip of his coffee, it having cooled adequately in the time he took to lay it all down for his partner. Murray mulled over it for a moment, and made a gesture of understanding, a smile wide across his face.
"It sounds to me like you've got some kind of unresolved feelings holding you back from something."
"Oh really?"
"Trust me on this one. Maybe, like, that pressure you're feeling is the pressure to perform, right? You're Sly Cooper. Everybody knows you, knows us. It's not like you to mess up; at least, not in a way that everyone finds out about."
Murray audibly pauses long enough for the two of them to let out a light laugh as he continues.
"But that pressure can come from you, too. If you feel like you aren't making it your best, you won't feel right taking that diamond. And maybe that's holding you back from taking it even if it's what you're looking for, so you hesitate. Maybe that calling card of yours is more of a promise to return than it is a big bundle of unresolved feelings."
Sly narrows his brow and, without turning to face Murray, says something under his breath.
"And if that diamond were a person?"
Murray sees Sly's expression and softens his voice a little, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Well, there's surely something there to view someone as a diamond. I remember one time Bentley was going on and on about them before another heist of ours. How they're made of tough stuff, and that they're molded under the pressure of a thousand suns, packed tighter and tighter until they become an unbreakable hunk! Or, uh, something like that. But, he also said that they can be cut at just the right angle that they'll come apart, and that that's how we get them stuffed onto little rings and bracelets and the like. Maybe you're feeling that same pressure that this someone is. Maybe you think that, like, they're all complete, but that you haven't proven yourself to measure up yet. It's like, you're both going through this struggle, but you can't see yourself as being that, uh, solid, I guess... "
Murray had obviously lost the trail a bit, but to Sly, it all made sense. He smiled, and touched his brother's hand, now turning to face him.
"Thanks, big guy. I think your master taught you well."
"You can thank him when you see him. For now, just be sure you don't get cold feet like that on this heist, alright?"
The two of them laughed to themselves, and settled back in. It was gonna be a long night, and a longer day until they found a place to hide out. Until then, there would be plenty to keep them occupied. Perhaps things had become just a little more clear.
