THAT ENDING SCENE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL, the music, the animation, the adorable way the Tapus made Satoshi’s Z-Ring “evolve”, how Koko showed him the moves for it just like when they first met and how everyone came together for the “ZENRYOKU DA” when Satoshi did his “This is our full power!” Z-move catchphrase, it really felt like they were embarking onto some grand final adventure.
Unfortunately the big emotional Solgaleo evolution scene fell a little flat for me just because I don’t personally care about Hoshigumo/Nebby that much in the anime, it hasn’t done enough in the relatively short amount of time we’ve known it, and it hasn’t established a strong enough bond with anyone, the fact that the scene was pretty much exactly the same in the games but with the appropriate build up doesn’t help, like I HAVE to compare them. Lilie’s part especially felt forced because of it. Thanks to spoilers we know that there’s going to be a dedicated farewell episode for Solgaleo after the climax of this arc, so I’m hoping they’ll manage to somehow make that one feel right.
Other points:
- My prediction of Kojiro trying to pass off Cosmoem as yet another Koffing pre-evolution stage came through and it was hilarious, though it got busted once Solgaleo appeared, alas. xD
- Kukui having a Braviary is cool but the fact that we’ve never seen it is very odd especially in SM where most Pokemon are constantly out of their Balls, I don’t see why Braviary would be an exception outside of “it wasn’t planned/they wanted to save it for a surprise”. Maybe it’s old and prefers to rest most of the time? Kukui called it his “partner” and he’s an adult so I assume he’s had it for a really long time.
- Gladio’s emotions felt very real to me, he quickly became impatient and rude towards the Tapus due to their lighthearted nature (understandably so, his mother’s on the line) and his plea to Solgaleo in the end felt desperate, like he was ashamed of his behaviour but still needed to ask for help.
Next episode is looking pretty interesting in terms of the action, lots of chaos and teamwork, hopefully the classmates (and Satoshi’s other Pokemon) get to show off their best~

More Professor Kukui’s sixth Pokemon Speculation
I think the most likely option now is that it is a Pokemon from Galar. Simply because, I think it’s more likely than hiding something like Hakamo-o or Kommo-o, which he could have caught and possibly evolved after he rescued Professor Burnet and her Munchlax in SM052, because although that would be a nice surprise, it might not be that special of a thing to hide. Because showing Hakamo-o or Kommo-o wouldn’t be like showing that a Pokemon evolved from a Pokemon we already knew he had and they didn’t hide Venusaur and Empoleon.
And let’s say this was going to be a battle where Professor Kukui defeats Ash by only using a few Pokemon. Why have Professor Kukui use five to defeat all of Ash’s six Pokemon in the battle, when it would mean that there’s just one more Pokemon that he could use, so that we could see every Pokemon he has in his party. It’d kind of be like a tease. Five is just one away from six, so why not just have Professor Kukui use all six of the Pokemon in his party? And showing how strong Professor Kukui is would be more effective in my opinion if he were to use only a couple of Pokemon, and not almost his whole party.
