Fun fact: Southern river otters live in freshwater with riparian vegetation. Riparian vegetation protects the water from hot summers and cold winters, shielding the waters so that the aquatic life living there won't become distressed.=(^.^)=

Preparations for Furnal are go, here's an internet darling, the Small Clawed Otter, from last week. These darlings are currently vulnerable due to the exotic pet trade. Let the wild stay wild, cute does not equal a healthy pet.

The Asain Small-Clawed Otter is the smallest breed of otter, being 28-36 inches with 10-14 inches of it being tale and only up to 10 pounds. Theese very adorable otters are known for being the housepet otter, if you want a pet otter this is the one. Their native range is from India to Southeast Asia, their ideal habit is mangrove swamps, wetlands, ricefeilds and costal lagoons. Theese otters are more nocturnal than most otters, Asain Small-Clawed Otters are probably the most social otter, they live on clans of 10-14 and have a variety of noises to communicate. Theese are the most commonly seen otter in homes and zoos. Again, DO NOT PET ONE. THEY ARE SMALL AND MIGHTY.
I'm very happy with how the viewing area turned out for this otter habitat! You can take the lower path and watch the otters swim underwater, or you can take the upper path to get a view of the whole habitat.
The smallest otter species is the Asian small-clawed otter (Aonyx cinereus), measuring in at 65-90 cm (25-35 inches) long, including tail. Unlike most other otters, their front feet are only partially webbed, which along with their short claws contributes to their extreme dexterity. They're known for being playful, charismatic, and social.
Small-clawed otters are considered vulnerable by the IUCN. In addition to threats like habitat loss, reduced food supply, and climate change, these otters are also increasingly impacted by the illegal pet trade.
