Update on NOTEFLIX’s production of “Troubles in the Garden”. While our film crew is on vacation, members of our cast are attending a lecture series on the “History of Stuffed Animals”. This lecture is being given in the dark of night because there are some malcontents who would ban such activities – under the name of who knows what. This particular lecture delves into the question of : Who was the first Stuffed Animal? Was it Peter, the Rabbit ? Or Frankie the Dog? …The malcontents believe the knowledge pertaining to such things might lead to Socialism, or even – worse – to the State of WOKE, wherever that is. (We hope to get back to filming next week.) . #likes #likesforlike #woke #bestofallpossibleworlds #bookbanning #smallminds #decivilization #theratpapers #impunity #blogger @morganmetz #msnbc https://www.instagram.com/p/CqEMuJ0OFLr/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

do you think it's been a really tough thing for the goth and metal etc communities to accept that absinthe is and has always been just regular alcohol that doesn't do anything special.

It's actually sick how people will speak out on social media about cutting off their abusive family members to protect their children from experiencing the same abuse, and half of the comments are about how they're being abusive for denying kids their grandmother/grandfathers love etc and how family should always be forgiven. And it's like.. Good for you if you didn't have abusive parents growing up, but it's scary how someone can be so unable to look beyond their own experiences and understand that, to some people, their parents are some of the worst people they've ever known and they have good reasons to cut them off.
People view family as the Be All End All of relationships to the point where they'd rather people continued the cycle of abuse and let their kids suffer for it. The idea that you're allowed to cut off family for your own and your children's sake, makes them so deeply uncomfortable.
I think it's amazing that the new generation of parents is more focused on respecting children's boundaries but the way the older generation is reacting to it is just sad. We're all snowflakes and weak for respecting our children as autonomous, actual humans with their own inner lives. What about this concept is so threatening to the older generation? Why are they fighting it tooth and nail? Why are we being ridiculed for viewing our kids as people?

Is Lestat Racist?
I can't fathom how people can have the most grimdark interpretation that Lestat actually thinks Louis & Claudia are 'beneath' him solely because they are black BUT still want Loustat as a relationship to continue. It isn't that racists wouldn't date someone from a group they hate, it has been done. But I find it worth remarking on that people who think so little of Lestat, that he is a run-of-the-mill racist, a genuine slave master, and akin to a nazi are still out here gleefully participating in Loustat. I am not one to tell people what they ship or how to ship, not because I don't judge, I do, but because I you can't control people, so I don't try. Why do you want Louis with a blatant racist? I am confused. What pleasure do you get from viewing this relationship as Lestat actively wanting to racially dominate his family? You can say Lestat's actions have racist connotations and interpretations, without saying he without a doubt thinks his black family members are lesser beings? And that your interpretation is all there is and anything else is wrong. There is not one 'single' interpretation of a text, just some with more substantial evidence.
I choose to believe Lestat is acting without racial awareness (which is racist), he is treating the black versions of Claudia and Louis, the same way he would have treated white Claudia & Louis, which is racist because they aren't far off from slavery. He isn't looking at the optics, he's acting like a man blind to everything except the fact that he's losing control of his family. Lestat isn't an idiot, he sees race as a feature, and that smallminded people would see it as a lesser trait, but he doesn't understand why after Louis and Claudia become vampires, a part of his family, a part of his bloodline, they want to maintain racial ties and alliances and world view.
He doesn't think he's better than them because he is white, he thinks he's a father saying " I am the head of the household!" so he should be "respected & his words honored." When he says "I am your maker," He's saying, "I am your mother, I brought you into this work and I can take you out." Something my own mother has said to me many times. Because of this writers felt the need to hammer home that Louis is being viewed as a beleaguered battered housewife being led around by Lestat. (Even though he don't cook, he don't clean and earnt his ring suck-)
"But Claudia called him "massa" and made allusions to slavery", yeah because that is what teenagers do. To Lestat she's an ungrateful teenager acting up, throwing tantrums, and viewing him as a monster for being a disciplinary force. Lestat is hearing, "You won't let me dress how I want, go out past curfew, etc you're a dictator and this house is hell!" Because the writers decided to take all the dynamics of the plain white-bread nuclear family and imprint them onto these vampires, but escalate everything to the vampire level. So like Jacob said, "It's a fight about who puts out the bins." but given an escalation x 1000.
My beef with the writers is that they took a relatively ambiguous complex book and made it so much simple and clear. We can't debate whether Claudia had the right to kill Lestat because instead of Lestat giving pissy little verbal threats, he actually does choke out Claudia and beat Louis. Instead of Lestat sheltering Louis and Claudia from the vampire world, isolating them from their history by never giving them knowledge and having them live in fear of the unknown, he literally drags Claudia back home kicking and screaming. So Claudia cannot be interpreted any other way except as a righteous liberator, and Louis a victim, or they are liars. Claudia and Louis's accounts barely vary except when Claudia started to hate Louis towards the end, so they can't go back on their depiction of the abuse without painting Claudia and Louis as liars. So this gives credence and believability to everything Claudia says, instead of her words and motivations going under a microscope like every other insane person in this relationship. They even do the unreliable narration thing wrong lmao.
To me, the writers aren't making some grand declaration about the nature of interracial family dynamics, if they are it is sloppy af. The racial discussion in this show isn't that complex babes. They are taking all the subtle metaphors, and allusions of the novel and making them so overt, to the point they are beating us over the head with it. You can see it in the way they sidelined religion and philosophy in this series, despite it being a big part of the books. They have cut the fat, removed all the gray areas, and are giving us Explicit Sex and Explicit Abusive family dynamics, now with a racial lens that colors everything more negatively. And this is my interpretation, and I can say it without needing to make people feel like idiots or racists for disagreeing or having an interpretation that I do not support. Please become more sane and respectful to each other or block liberally and live in peace! The constantly attacking and demonizing people at random for having any opinion that differs...

Empathy for Euron
I'm not looking for excuses for Euron, but even someone so wholly villainous as Euron has a certain tragic humanity to his character. TWOW spoilers included.
It sounds like Euron was born so psychically powerful so young, but was surrounded by a culture that only recognized literal, physical strength. He had some kind of ability to see some kind of greater picture, to recognize that out there, somewhere, there was the ability to “fly,” but everyone around him is lockstep in this smallminded, delusional ideal of the old way, which is obviously going to doom them.
So he never had any guidance. It’s Bran without Jojen to mentor him, Varamyr without Haggon. We see from Varamyr how totally alienating these kinds of powers are—even though Varamyr uses them to become an utter piece of shit, a lot of it comes from his acute awareness of how much his existence separates him from the society around him. Even with guidance Bran is still warging Hodor to try to pretend to be someone else, he’s still staying in Summer for days at a time to escape his existence as a physically weak skinchanger.
And Euron isn’t just lacking a mentor, he’s lacking anyone who even recognizes what he’s experiencing. He blasphemes against god, killing Harlon, who is in some ways parallel to Euron, also sick, also silently suffering for the unwillingness of the Ironborn to extend empathy past strength. Killing Harlon is like killing himself, Harlon begs him, (to what? stop? continue? he’s not any more sure that he wants to live than Euron is) and immediately afterward, Euron himself is prepared to die, begging god to kill him because even that would be proof that he’s not alone, not the only person who is attuned to these senses. Instead, Euron lives. He’s not struck down—and so he is truly alone. On Pyke, only the gods could relate to the experience Euron is having, and even they won’t answer him.
Eventually Euron leaves, and now, separated from the Ironborn, he lives an empty, macabre replica of their ideals. He rules with absolute authority a ship of mutes, as lockstep with his goals as the Greyjoys were with Balon’s. He’s the perfect pirate but it’s not the plunder he craves—that joy is empty for him. It’s the prayer he that he really wants, the only recognition that the sole, lonely god in the world could ever ask for.
Finally he returns home, killing his brother and stepping into his role, the perfect ideal imitation of what Balon could have been. He recognizes the illusion the Ironborn need. But in private, to his family, he’s still searching for an equal. He wants to invite Victarion into his world—he’s suddenly found a substance that lets average people see the way Euron has been seeing this whole time. But Vic still won’t have it, so Euron decides to forcibly create a brother that understands him. If Vic won’t take the leap voluntarily, Euron will push Aeron—which is cruel, but it is pitiful, too, because he even now he wants someone to know what it's like to see like he does, even now he wants someone to fly with him.
Obviously Euron is still a maniac and a madman but... you can also imagine how lonely he must have always felt, how even his nihilism is tragic—if he thinks himself a god, and the gods are dead, then he knows he is so, so alone.
That said. This excuses nothing and leaves plenty unexplained, too.

hi. it sounds silly but i've been experiencing a year long "spiritual breakthrough," i guess, after being an adamant materialist and socially and politically focused for half my life. but i've also realized just how easy it is to step into fascist bear traps out here once you look past "witchy aesthetic," so i try to keep my research academic. but after having bad experiences with christianity *and* paganism when i was young, i don't know where to connect with these feelings outside of math and science and history, but my heart's not in it. i didn't expect for this to happen or know it could, but the last few years have done something to change me. i don't want to learn something from a source that's two steps away from eugenics or hurts marginalized groups (as i'm also a member of several myself). i don't have relatives with cultural connections to non-christian faiths or anything, and i live in a predictably smallminded smalltown. is there a safe place to learn and feel things about spirituality outside of textbooks? i don't really know what i believe other than it's important to care about and be connected to other people, i mostly just feel.. different. is there some organization for people like me to safely connect with others and learn? where to start?
I don't really know of any formal "groups" for this? About the best I know of right now is the certain parts of the witchblr community, and Discord servers they might have. Might try Nerd & Tie if you're interested in a witchy Discord server.

Twilight's Bella and Belle from beauty in the beast get swapped in a way that puts them at the start of the other's original creepy romance plot. What happens?
I assume this is Disney's version.
Bella is Belle
I imagine Bella would start off our plot very similarly. She feels like an outcast in this small provincial town in France, she's far more educated than the people here, and doesn't want to be here.
The difference is she's less confident than Belle and thinks that she herself, too, is the worst. If she wasn't she could help her father and they could get out of this miserable place with these miserable people.
Bella can only read about people's great adventures in stories because she'll never get a chance to live it herself because she's not interesting and unimportant.
Bella has no hope for her future and although marrying Gaston fills her with despair, she does briefly consider it, as she doesn't think anyone else will ever want her and it would at least secure her future versus becoming a spinster.
Then her father's horse arrives without him and she realizes he's gone missing.
She goes after him and gets lost in the woods. She then trips on a branch and breaks her ankle. She never makes it to the castle.
Bella's father never gets to leave the caste either and in desperation the household objects try to get the Beast to fall in love with the only human in the castle: Bella's father.
It doesn't work.
They're stuck as objects forever.
Belle is Bella
I imagine Belle is very conflicted but does move to Forks. As she loved her father despite his eccentricities and inability to bring in money, she likely loves Renee and realizes she's a third wheel.
She sends herself to this poor provincial town called Forks Washington where she can only count the days until she leaves again.
She goes out of her way not to make friends with the smallminded locals who don't seem to understand her anyway.
Like Bella, Belle finds Mike boorish and uninteresting. She is, however, interested in the intellectual Edward who seems at once dangerous but also kindhearted beneath all of that.
Belle comes to believe that Edward is simply cursed, that he is a good man beneath his monstrous exterior and a kindred spirit in how he is always an outsider.
Edward desperately wishes to live up to this idea and we get...
Uh, we get canon.
Only Belle realizes in stunned horror at the end that Edward's never becoming human, she has to become like him. She does view this as a sacrifice though rather than the end goal but... Renesmee is highly likely for Belle.

this Ruby Ridge thing... geez. I'm certainly not gonna turn rightist like it made a lot of Americans but absolutely that seems like a really bad call on the federal government's part to handle it this way.
i dunno, that's an easy answer tho.
i'm not smart enough to give the correct answer. i need this documentary to hopefully spell it out for me. i don't know how to navigate the Wacos and Ruby Ridges of America.
i do know this country is a huge shithole and every gun should be taken
and Ameircans need to be divested of their obsession with toughness, strength, power, superiority, violence, might, independence and freedom
which has made them into stupid, paranoid, abusive, smallminded, untrusting, insecure asshole murderers

Idk maybe it's just my perspective as an aro lesbian but I find the take that, bc the pale quadrant is defined as a type of 'romance' for trolls, all interpretations of pale ships should therefore be seen as strictly romantic and that pale pairings need to correspond directly with both characters stated sexualities to be remarkably limiting and smallminded, personally. I'm all for expanding the definition of what makes a relationship romantic but sometimes I feel like people take 'romance' a little too literally when they try to make 'romance = attraction' as opposed to approaching pale feelings as like. Their own thing. Moiraillagence being a kind of romance for trolls and also being a technically 'platonic' relationship (from a human pov, these are concepts invented by a Human to fuel fan discussion they aren't complex) with very little bearing on whether or not you feel romantic attraction to somebody are two concepts that can coexist.

Scary Post Canon Glimmer where she sees the chaos of the universe and how its negatively impacting Etheria and wonders if Prime had a point
I really, really need her to discuss that with Hordak.
"Horde Primes universe was perfect," Hordak rumbled. "Nothing out of place, nothing diverting from his perfect, divine will."
He looked Glimmer in the eyes. "The order you are fighting so hard to impose is flawed. Messy. Imperfect. You see all the cracks. See the people who fall behind. You think, perhaps would their suffering be less under the tyrant you toppled? Then let me assure you, little queen, it would not. His 'perfect' world did not leave room for growth, for change, for things to become anything more than he is his smallminded, limited absolute power could coceive of." A rare smile graced his lips. "Also, as I have recently had amply reason to reflect on - imperfect as your rule might be, imperfection is beautiful."
