Finally, a cool smoke alarm. You could probably personalize the white one w/your own design. They also come in green and gray, too.

Of course, I want the pink one.

I think smoke alarm batteries sense when the worst time to die will be. I have never had a smoke alarm battery die at an appropriate, manageable moment.

Got woken up at 3am by my smoke alarms going off for no reason. Wouldn't have been as bad if they weren't all connected to each other and didn't all go off at once 🫠

Well, we were just woke up at 5 in the morning by the fire detectors screeching
Apparently, some times when the battery in a fire alarm is dying, it won't do the low battery chirp.
Instead, it'll repeatedly go off and set off every single other fire alarm in your small apartment until you have to call the fire department for them to come check it out to make sure there's no gas leaks or fires in the wall or C02 leaks or what have you... Only for it to turn out it just needs a new battery.
So uh, yeah.
Here's your reminder that you need to go to the store ASAP and buy brand name 9v batteries, and replace the batteries in your fire alarms, and keep some one hand at all times so you don't spend an hour before sunrise standing on the arm of your couch pushing the silence button to no avail while the alarm screeches directly in your ear on repeat for no fucking reason other than it's got an old battery and thinks the world is ending.

"The Boy Who Cried Wolf" is out of date. They should bring it into modern times with a new name, "The Smoke Alarm".

Fire Prevention Tips for Construction Sites
Fires can occur anywhere and at any time. These emergencies can occur in your commercial building or on your outdoor property. They can even occur at construction sites. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), an average of 3,840 fires occurred on construction sites each year. Fires at construction sites present unique and dangerous problems when this type of emergency occurs. This type of fire situation is unique, so you need to know fire prevention tips for the construction site.
Why fire prevention on construction sites is special
If you have a construction site, you should know about the fire hazards and preventive fire protection on this type of site. Fire prevention on construction sites is unique for several reasons:
Wood-frame structures are susceptible to fires
Fires on construction sites can spread quickly because of the incomplete construction of the building
Sprinkler systems have not yet been installed to extinguish the fires
Voids in incompletely constructed buildings can cause wind tunnels that intensify flames
With all of these unique problems, it’s easy to see the need to be aware of the danger of fires on construction sites and how to prevent fires on your site.
The most important fire hazards for construction sites
There are certain fire hazards you should be aware of related to construction sites. Here are some of the most important fire hazards for construction sites:
Hot work operations increase the risk of construction site fires
Temporary heaters designed to keep the area warm can lead to fires
Smoking on the construction site can be a fire hazard
Flammable and combustible materials may be used on the job site, which can lead to fires
Temporary electrical and lighting systems can be a fire hazard
Arson can occur on unprotected and unguarded construction sites
The lack of sprinkler systems can make fires difficult to extinguish at such sites
How to prevent fires on construction sites
Now that you know what potential fire hazards can occur on construction sites, it’s important to know how to prevent fires on those sites. Some ways to do this are listed below:
Establish a set cool-down time for all hot work equipment
Keep temporary heating equipment away from combustible materials in designated areas
On the job site, make sure smoking is not allowed
Shop flammable and combustible materials safely when not in use
Use electrical and lighting equipment safely and properly
Make sure the property is as safe as possible when the construction site is inactive

Common Issues to Look Out for During Smoke Alarm Checks
Tumblr media
Smoke alarms are essential safety features in any home or building. They are designed to detect the presence of smoke and alert occupants to potential fires. However, like any other device, smoke alarms require regular maintenance and testing to ensure that they are functioning properly. In this article, we will discuss some of the most common issues to look out for during smoke alarm checks.
Dead Batteries
One of the most common issues with smoke alarms is dead or missing batteries. Batteries are responsible for providing power to the alarm, and when they die, the alarm cannot function. Therefore, it is important to test the batteries in your smoke alarm regularly and replace them when necessary. It is recommended that you replace the batteries in your smoke alarm at least once a year, and test the alarm every month.
Sensor Contamination
Smoke alarms work by detecting the presence of smoke in the air. If the sensor becomes contaminated with dust, dirt, or other debris, it may not function properly. To prevent sensor contamination, it is important to clean your smoke alarm regularly. Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to remove any dust or debris from the sensor. If you have a hardwired smoke alarm, you may need to call a professional to clean the sensor.
Improper Placement
The placement of your smoke alarm is critical to its effectiveness. If your smoke alarm is installed in the wrong location, it may not detect smoke and alert occupants to a potential fire. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), smoke alarms should be installed in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home. Smoke alarms should also be installed at least 10 feet away from cooking appliances to avoid false alarms.
Age of the Smoke Alarm
Like any other device, smoke alarms have a limited lifespan. Over time, the sensors in smoke alarms can become less sensitive and the device may not function properly. Therefore, it is important to replace your smoke alarm every 10 years, or according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you are unsure of the age of your smoke alarm, look for a date code on the back of the device.
Power Outages
Power outages can also affect the functioning of smoke alarms. If your smoke alarm is hardwired to your home’s electrical system, it may not function during a power outage. To prevent this from happening, install a smoke alarm with a battery backup. This will ensure that the alarm continues to function even if the power goes out.
False Alarms
False alarms are another common issue with smoke alarms. They can be caused by cooking smoke, steam from a shower, or even dust or debris in the air. To prevent false alarms, it is important to install smoke alarms in the correct location and keep them clean. You can also purchase smoke alarms with a hush button that allows you to temporarily silence the alarm.
In conclusion, smoke alarms are an essential safety feature in any home or building. Regular maintenance and testing are critical to ensuring that they function properly. By being aware of the common issues that can occur during smoke alarm checks, you can take steps to prevent them and keep your home and family safe. Remember to test your smoke alarm regularly, replace the batteries at least once a year, and replace the device every 10 years or according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

A Helpful Guide for Installing Smoke Alarms
Tumblr media
Smoke alarms alert people about sudden fire outbreaks and help to avoid any significant damage. If correctly installed as well as managed, these alarms can alert people of the impending danger and reduce fatal incidents significantly. Read below to learn about a few tips to select, install and maintain smoke alarms effectively.
Research, Then Pick Your Alarms
If your smoke alarms are more than 10 years old, or if your home does not have smoke detectors at all, you can proceed to install new ones. Before investing your money, you may conduct a comprehensive research on the various kinds of smoke detectors available in the market. There are various brands and models available with prices to choose from, or if you want to save your time and effort, simply call professionals who specialise in smoke alarms in Nottingham.
Install Smoke Detectors On Each Floor
Your home’s structure, lifestyle and other habits should determine how many detectors you may require to install. At a minimum, you must install at least one alarm on each floor of your house. When calculating the number of smoke alarms you need to install at your property, do not forget to consider the basement and rooftop.
Install Smoke Alarms at Strategic Locations
If you haven’t yet considered installing smoke alarms, it’s high time you must give it a thought to strengthen the safety and security of your family members. Place every alarm on a flat wall surface or ceiling in the centre of any room. For wall-mounted devices, ensure that the alarms are installed a few inches away from the ceiling. Read and follow the manual when performing installations or seek help from professional smoke alarms installers in Nottingham, if you are unsure about how to perform the entire setup process.
Test Your Smoke Alarms Immediately After Installing Them
After installing your smoke alarms in Nottingham, run a test to ensure it’s properly installed and functioning optimally. Make sure everyone can readily identify the alarm sound by pressing the test button on each device separately. During the first test, consider your house evacuation strategy as well.
Being a homeowner, it’s your responsibility to ensure top-notch fire safety. Follow the above mentioned points to make your house as secure as possible. Speak to certified smoke alarms installers in Nottingham about your concerns if you'd want additional information.
