I wish we could stop using E-Mail. As SysOp they are an absolute PITA. Especially because some large providers just fuck you over when you're trying to send to them. Like, I had a perfectly well working Mail-Server, moved it to a new server with a new IP and boom, T-Online is like "well, it's a new IP so we'll just block it outright like until the IP has some reputation"
WELL YOU FUCKS HOW THE FUCK IS THIS IP SUPPOSED TO GET REPUTATION IF LARGE PROVIDERS ARE JUST ABSOLUTE ASSHOLES AND BLOCK EVERYTHING FROM IT.
And their error message is literally like "well, you can't send to us but if you wanna change that, send us a mail.
Like Tcom, bruv, it's like I'm trying to send you snail mail and you're standing there holding your letter box shut telling me "well you can't send me letters because I don't know you but if you want to send me letters in the future you can send me a letter complaining about not being able to send letters". It's like not speaking to new people because you've never met them before. It makes no sense and is absolutely anti-competetive towards small businesses who don't have a whole department to just to keep other Ops departments busy with shit like this.
Seriously, DTAG, I hope whoever came up with that idea will always have their shirt's sleeves drop into the water when they're washing their hands.

The SMTP Extension Guide for E-Commerce Stores
Tumblr media
We live in an increasingly technology-driven economy, but payments are not limited to the digital world. Despite the availability of digital wallets such as PayPal, Google Pay, or Apple Pay, email-based purchases remain a staple for businesses and customers.
To guarantee that the emails from your online store are delivered to the right people without any delays or issues, you must have a reliable Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) extension. SMTP is a universal protocol used for sending emails all over the world. An extension is essential to ensure that the delivery of emails is successful.
Given the complexity of SMTP extensions, it can be challenging to set up and configure them for your e-commerce store. Fortunately, there are several resources available to help you get started. Here's a quick guide to help you implement an effective SMTP extension for your e-commerce store:
Verify that your server is up to date and configured accurately. It's crucial to ensure that your server is set up correctly and that your SMTP server's latest version is installed for optimal performance.
Set up your SMTP settings. This includes selecting a domain name, setting up port and authentication settings, and selecting a secure connection.
Connect your e-commerce store to a third-party email provider like Gmail, Outlook, or MailChimp.
Set up email templates. Email templates ensure that customers receive an appropriate and personalized response when they purchase a product from your e-commerce store.
Monitor and test your SMTP settings. Test your SMTP settings and ensure your store sends emails correctly. Regularly monitor your SMTP settings to ensure that they are functioning properly.
Any e-commerce store must create a reliable and secure SMTP extension for the success of their business. Such an extension allows quick and fast processing of email-based purchases without interruptions. It also helps foster a personalized customer relationship, increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
The guide above should provide the information needed to implement an SMTP extension in your e-commerce store. With some research, you can set up and configure your SMTP settings to ensure a seamless email-based purchase experience for your customers. So, don't delay - start setting up your SMTP extension and take your e-commerce store to the next level.

TLS: What It Does, What It Doesn't Do
TLS. Transport Layer Security. When it comes to email, a lot of folks don't know what it does, and what it doesn't do. So, on to the basics:
TLS is a protocol that can encrypt a communications session after the session has already been established. It is a stateful protocol, meaning that it remembers things previously established (or stated) for a small window of time. When it comes to email, TLS will encrypt most of a message assuming that both server and client support it. Some things to know:
Assuming the receiving server supports TLS, it will offer it to a client after the initial handshake (essentially the HELO).
If the client can support TLS, it will list out the versions of the protocol along with the cypher strength it supports, and the server will pick the highest mutual version/strength. This is called opportunistic TLS, and is basically the server saying, "Hey, you wanna switch to a TLS session?" and the client (90+ percent of the time) saying, "oh, totally, here's what I can handle."
The client then picks a random number and encrypts it using the server's public key. The server, using its private key, should be the only thing that can decrypt that number. This will be the basis for the secure connection
Although your TLS certificate can match the DNS reverse lookup of your IP address, it's not necessary for the purposes of encryption. My opinion; don't require this. There are other ways to authenticate a server is who it says it is.
The subject line, envelope sender, and recipient of an email is never encrypted via TLS - don't ever put anything sensitive in the subject of an email. It's actually illegal under HIPAA to put one of the 18 generally accepted data points in the subject.
TLS does NOT encrypt data at rest, only data in transit.
If you set your TLS requirements beyond what the other side of an email session can handle, TLS will fail and the message may be transferred in the clear, so in a strange way it may be better to set your requirements low and just trust TLS to auto negotiate to the highest mutually available cypher and protocol version.
