The main reason I am upset over Zeke's death by Levi's hands is that
Zeke getting killed by Levi may compliment Levi's side of the story But definitely not Zeke's.
First of all, I'm not really invested in Levi character's arc but I know well that Levi feels that he must kill Zeke to fullfil his promise to Erwin. The promise that Erwin willed to sacrifice his life for before fulfilling his dream.
That's all nice, except in the last chapter Levi decided that it may not be his duty to kill Zeke, maybe their mission was to deliver the kids to the beach and the kids have to carry it off from there. Even more so since he's injured now. it looks just too convenient for Levi.
Now for Zeke's part:
As a start, I hate the Zeke/Levi dynamic. In my opinion is so pointless, I don't know what Isayama wants to show us there I think it's just fanservice. But yeah Zeke is literally traumatized by Levi. He's scared shitless of him. what kind of conclusion is that to have Zeke get killed by his arch nemesis while saying "oh I don't really want to see you" ?! Is it part of his punishment?! if so what's that nonsense about "it's a beautiful whether"? Is it to make his death by Levi's hands look like oh so peaceful?!
I would not have minded much if he got killed the same way but by someone other than Levi.
Zeke's character arc isn't about getting killed in the first place, it's about seeing the errors of his ideology. Zeke's character "redemption" should be something to do with the future of the heroes -say Armin for example. He needs to realize Mikasa's ideology, that the world is cruel indeed but there's some beauty worth living for and protecting. I'm upset he never met Mikasa. Or about the "the world is so big behind these walls" because he is trapped behind walls. The walls of pain, oppression, war and destruction. He needed to see that there's more to this world to try to reach.

SNK CHAPTER 137: LEVI ACKERMAN
arrival fallacy: “the false belief that when we achieve a particular goal, we'll finally become - and remain - happy. the truth is, the moment of achievement, although glorious, is only fleeting.”

(Spoiler Warning: Attack On Titan, chapter 137.)
Why do people keep assuming Levi killed Zeke just because of that promise? Zeke sacrificed himself to save humanity. Levi knew that. Him and Hange talked about the possibility that killing Zeke would stop the Rumbling. Once he saw Titans helping them and Zeke waving at him all defenseless, he immediately knew what he was trying to do. That's why he had such a pained expression and didn't enjoy it one bit.

Why I'm not satisfied with Zeke's death:
This is assuming that this is the end of Zeke and that we won't be seeing more flashbacks of what happened in the paths, as it looks so far.
I'm not really good with words but I'll do my best to try and build up on these five points:
No one is right but they're not completely wrong either. Zeke might not be right, but he believes that he's choosing the lesser of two evils, I think he might fit into the necessarily evil category. We had the owl as an example too, both did what they had to do for what think it's best. The end justifies the means. I believe Eren is one too but we still haven't heard the full story.
Tumblr media
Every side might try to do their best but is it the right choice, was there any other way to do it?! They don't know, we don't know. I'll just show an example of Isayama telling us through Jean that the worse thing in the manga which is the genocide Eren commited/commits might have been inevitable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At what scale a massacre is fine?! Approximately a million Eldian on Paradise? Frida (or the first King thought so). Zeke kind of agrees by choosing euthanasia to put an end the race of Eldians, but to be fair, I don't think we saw him talk about repenting for their sins even though it's a popular concept in Marley.
Tumblr media
Slavery and the battle for freedom: while Eren is the embodiment of the search for freedom in the manga. Zeke is on the other side, he was literally imprisoned physically and mentally by Marley and his parents goals were merely heavy shackles for him. He was stuck between two fires. Such a predicament stuck with him from his childhood until his last days. He simply didn't see any way out of this, the whole world was an enemy. The only freedom Zeke saw and fought for was getting out of this world. I imagine that's why he couldn't understand Ymir's desire for freedom while Eren did, Ymir and him were enslaved by their environment that they only saw death as the only way out. The difference is that Ymir still had a lingering attachment for the world but Zeke didn't.
"He doesn't have to be special, he's special because he was born" or live for yourself mentality. Sadly, Zeke was born special, he always had a role to play, a role bigger than himself.
People might see euthanasia as Zeke's selfish plan but while it did reason with him, it was Xavier's plan and Zeke "the savior of Eldians" took it upon himself to free Eldians from the curse of living.
Zeke actually got to do this for a little bit with Zavir, who "might have" accepted because he saw himself in him. Albeit "I wish I wasn't born into this world" wasn't the best influence on Zeke. it actually pushed him over the edge and made throw away what left of his soul to Carry on Zavir's wish that resonated for him and adapted it. It's quite sad to think that Zeke still wore Zavir's glasses for so long. I'd like to add that Zeke lived with his grandparents who seemed to love him and he seems to care about them but sadly his lived two separate lives and wasn't able to be sincere with them.
The world is cruel yet beautiful. This is probably the most glaring theme of the manga. To quote Mikasa "Eren as long as you're alive, I have a home in this world", Zeke was isolated and lacked any source of acceptance and reassurance. He didn't find a place in this world. Not with his parents (that he believes a strangerwho tells him that they didn't love him), not with his grandparents whom he hides everything from. Not with Marley for sure. I think that the most important change in Zeke's life was finding out about Eren. Zeke may have gotten attached to Eren because he projected himself into him, but he actually genuinely loved Eren. I think the most glarent scenes are the scene in which Eren asks him about Mikasa and Zeke gives the most sincere smile. Also his naïve persistence that he'll save Eren physically and emotionally.
Looking forward or Seeing what's beyond these walls. So yeah it's obvious that Zeke doesn't have anything to look forward, no hope for a better future. No hope or will to get outside of the "walls" surrounding him. Zeke's nihilism and his believe in euthanasia is mainly because of this: he just doesn't see anything outside and doesn't see the point of clutching to life.
I think it'd have been satisfying with two simple additions:
Zeke actually Seeing the beauty in this world. His moments with Zavir. Yeah, that's sweet but it only lasted a couple of years what about after that?! How about Colt who seemed like he enjoyed spending time with and the warriors who actually respected and he actually seemed to care about, seeing his facial expressions when he decided to kill Zeke and Falco and also when he thought Pieck died? His grandparents whom he wanted to protect. It'd have been much more meaningful.
Another meaningful thing in this life would be, multiplying isn't so bad. after all, his father multiplyed and he was born and then Eren was born. That'd be an emotional reason to give up euathasia.
Zeke actually having something to look forward to. Well not exactly, but what if Zeke instead of sacrificing himself for the humanity even though he doesn't see what's wrong with euthanasia, he actually sacrifices himself to save Eren?! When Eren was a kid he wanted to see the world outside but he lost himself and didn't get to. It'd be more poetic if Zeke actually sacrifices himself to heal Eren and let him. That's something that got hinted on before.

People who are surprised that Armin is playing such a huge role in the end of the story astound me. It’s been literally telegraphed in the text that he would be very important/has a big role to play. Acting like it’s an unexpected development makes one appear at best deliberately obtuse.
