i kinda feel like people are just missing the point completely when they talk about how we need a book and movie for the backstory of every victor in the hunger games (i hear this all the time about haymitch, finnick, johanna) 😭 suzanne collins won't write a book because you like a character and would find reading about their experience in the arena entertaining, she writes when she has something to say in a much broader context

#and i've spent the past few years hearing people whining about how TBOSAS was gonna romanticise snow....and did it? you guys are NOT smarter #than miss collins! like please #in the case of the victors i mentioned also....it would add nothing to the world that's already been built! we know it happened

I hardly root for the first guy the girl falls for in anime, and almost always gets disappointed when my favorite doesn't win. I'm looking at you Obi, Ryoga, Koga, Naozumi, and Hikaru. Words can't describe how much I love the thought of somebody curled up on the couch, all bundled in their warmest clothes, holding a mug of tea between their hands like that warmth is the first they've felt in days.. and they've got a miserable cold

i love visual snow. visual static?? i see it more as static. i know im delusional, and psychotic (i have psychosis if u didnt know ahhahahahahah) but even before I found out i had/have psychosis I remember being like 3 or 4 years old, and asking my friends "hey hey, do you see the weird static thingy in the sky?" and theyd be like "haha no ur weird im gonna go play in the sandpit," so uhhhhhhhhhhhh great

But yeah I was reading Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes towards the end of December and was really pleasantly surprised. Loved that it revealed that the Hunger Games didn’t start fully formed to be the way we saw in the original book and instead there was this element of like… ratcheting things up and experimentation and seeing what they could get the Capitol citizens to buy in to. Loved that the Capitol was actually a kind of austere place because of the recent war and the people living then would be repulsed by what the Capitol ends up becoming.

And I really loved Snow’s…. I won’t call it a corruption arc because the boy is Not Well from the start lol. But his internal landscape (of accepting worse and worse things and honestly kind of liking it) really mirrors the arc his own city is going through. Meanwhile his love for Lucy Gray alternates wildly between him just wanting to possess this pretty girl who’s in his power and also him seeing Lucy Gray as a reflection of himself/practically a citizen of the capitol so she’s worthy of love. The text is not subtle about this at all even if it doesn’t put it exactly into those words. But dude’s practically panting at one point over how Lucy Gray I sn’t part of the Districts not REALLY and isn’t that so amazing and perfect?

What makes it even better is we have the OG Hunger Games right there and Katniss went through a lot of the same things as Snow and isn’t ever like him. Not to mention his own narrative foils within the book itself. So it’s not some sort of paean to … idk forgiving fascist supervillains if they have a sad backstory and look attractive. It kind of bums me out that the book is being misunderstood as having that sort of theme if I’m being honest. If I knew how to do it I’d make a video essay on this but alas I can not so everyone is spared lol

i am so fucking tired all of the time. i don't think it's a medical issue exactly i think it's that i work full-time and commute two hours a day, and i have never been very energetic to begin with. left to my own devices i sleep six hours a night and nap for a couple hours during the day, which one absolutely cannot do if one is at work. it's churlish to complain about my generally very cushy job (i'm on salary; i work inside; i find parts of my job draining but it is really very easy; &c.), but i left work two hours early today because there was a winter storm travel advisory & my boss said it would be okay to leave early since i am going to come in early tomorrow, & i feel so much better this evening that it really throws the rest of my time into sharp relief

#irredeemable whining #forecast said we might get 10 inches of snow :) i don't want to work #woke up this morning & was like 'i am going to fucking die if i go in.' obviously i did not fucking die. but i was being sincere #productivity per hour. public service. limits of liberal institutions. the wage relation. idk. all of these concepts slosh within me #on my hour-long drive to work. where i also reflect upon the fact that our region has gotten like 5 feet less snow than we should've #but there are no jobs closer to me in my field; i look every day. i just feel a sort of colorless structural despair. #i'm undiagnosing myself. my iron levels are normal. my blood is suuuuper ferrous but in a normal & good way. probably.

Me: And it'd be nice if it could be in a world where my characters could speak in easier-to-write modern cadences without it feeling out-of-place

It is more fascinating as an actor, I think, to empathize with someone deeply faulted and wrong, to try and find your way into why they are doing these things. [Playing] a guy who is doing all the right things and is driven by being good, it’s harder to do that. And I think people who do it successfully, who play classically heroic roles, are very talented actors. But at the moment, I just find it more interesting looking for the fucked-up people.

Good on Kit! I hope he gets to play all sorts of interesting characters. Any actor worth his/her salt should be able to play a villain.

What I love about ANS is that nothing is written in stone. Look at Kiki, she is with Hisame, which none of us really saw coming at the start.

Zen hasn't spend nearly as much time with Shirayuki since the beginning, as Obi has since he arrived. It gives me hope that ZenYuki won't be endgame, and that our Obi may have a chance.

today has become one of those days where I berate myself for not doing enough of all my hobbies and exercising and cleaning and cooking and watching things and such and ohh man how easy it is to gaslight myself into believing making a "schedule" will fix all my problems.

#the schedule works for like one week when its fun to cosplay as a productive member of society #and then i get tired. or i come home late. or literally any other tiny disruption happens and im like 'well! i give up now!' #also it SNOWED today A LOT MORE THAN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO #so my mood is. low. #also i really do need to do yoga bc 3 weeks in a row of dentist appointments has destroyed my neck and shoulder muscles lol #but i will continue to procrastinate that bc it's haaaaard #anyway im just whining. ill try and finish the gardening when i get home tonight and then ill feel better
