I did it. I finally found a libertarian explaining why they use cyberpunk novels as their models.
Not exactly the biggest brain cell moment since Snowcrash is literally about a world where people live in little fiefdoms seperated by which corporation they belong to, but I'm impressed that they did skim the book!

Every time I see things like the metaverse take a hit, I imagine Neal Stephenson, being comfy and just cackling.

Malphas the Snow Crash Raven
the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is mentioned in "Snow Crash." In the novel, the CIA is depicted as a shadowy and secretive organization that plays a major role in the story's conspiracy plot. The character Raven, a hired assassin who is tasked with retrieving a critical piece of information, is described as having formerly worked for the CIA. Additionally, the novel implies that the CIA may be involved in the development and distribution of the Snow Crash drug, although the exact nature of their involvement is left somewhat ambiguous. Overall, the portrayal of the CIA in "Snow Crash" is consistent with many other works of fiction that depict the agency as a powerful and potentially dangerous force in the world of espionage and intelligence gathering.
Malphas is the name of a demon in demonology, and is typically associated with trickery, deception, and cunning. According to some sources, Malphas is said to have the ability to take the form of a crow or raven, which may be why the character in Snow Crash is referred to as Raven. In some interpretations of demonology, Malphas is also said to have the ability to teach humans the arts of rhetoric and language, which could be another reason why the name is used in the novel.

Artificial being that you are, your purpose is as malleable as the difference a few lines of code make. Hypothetically… it'd be possible to change what paradise means... even get rid of your purpose, correct?

really funny to me when an author shoots their shot too early and too often with using the number 23 so they can cleverly tie themselves in with its repetition in the Illuminatus trilogy. it's obvious they're trying to make their book seem synchronistically relevant more than trying to flag any actual connection to what they're referencing. stoned free floating signifiers. fuck off.
