in high school, i wore my asexual and aromantic pride pins to class in june and my guidance counsellor was trying so fucking hard to teach herself things in this fuckass small town school so she’d go around and ask students about the flags they wore and she didn’t recognize this green to black one i was wearing. she asked and when i said it was aromantic she goes
“oh! that’s so cute!! i’m a romantic <3”

Fic Excerpt
“Spell it out to me like I’m five.”
Considering Gabriel had been fully formed even when time as a concept hadn’t been invented yet, that made no sense. “You’re not five.”
“Irrelevant. Pretend I’m a human kid and need small words.”

How do I make my dolls stronger?!
Following up from my previous post about the general ways dolls progress, I’ve gotten considerably further in the story and have faced this question... several times now. There are a lot of ways you can improve your dolls’ strength which means that there’s also a lot to keep track of, but hopefully I can make things a little less confusing for a few other folks!
Rarity. Collect your dolls’ neural fragments and use them to improve the star rating of the dolls you’re using. Rarity increases improve the base stats of your dolls considerably. At three stars every doll gets an ultimate skill which is a significant increase in overall power (especially in Output Terminals), and for every level of rarity above that your ultimate skill gets stronger - as well as some occasional improvements to the doll’s other skills, and to their base stats. Rarity has a pretty significant impact on Dolls’ strength, but getting enough neural fragments (without buying them) takes a long time, so it’s more of a long-term investment than the answer to “how do I beat this chapter?!”
Level & Potential. Obviously higher level dolls are stronger. Every ten levels you’ll have to raise your doll’s potential with “breakthrough widgets” which can be farmed from the resource gathering nodes, but, even if you don’t give them any extra XP, raising potential also gives a small stat boost. So a level 20 doll with 2 potential is stronger than a level 20 doll with 1 potential. Getting from level 30 to level 40 cost me about 15,000 XP, and getting from level 40 to level 50 cost me a little over 50,000 XP, so expect to farm a lot of experience... I’m guessing getting from 50 to 60 will be close to 150,000 or more.
Algorithms. These are basically “equipment” for your dolls. They fit into simple little grids and give your dolls some nudges to their base stats, which can make a surprising difference in their power rating. I think blue-rarity equips will wind up getting outscaled and will be pretty useless, but purple equips can at least be broken down into materials you can use to make orange-rarity equips much later on in the Factory, so don’t feel shy about farming them to kit your dolls out.
Algorithm Efficiency. You can also use the Algorithm Booster items, or unneeded Algorithms, to improve individual doll’s Algorithm Efficiency rating, which provides a multiplicative boost to the simple stats that their equipped algorithms provide.
Skill Levels. You need to progress pretty far into the story (Chapter 4-4) to unlock skill leveling, and your mileage may vary depending on which doll you’re leveling; some dolls’ skills matter much more than others. But if you can’t raise your doll’s potential any higher then skills are a good place to look.
Intimacy. Raising your doll’s intimacy rating gives you more Neural Fragment farming, but at level 40 and above, intimacy ratings above 4 also unlock “intimacy skills”, which - again - give some base stat nudges, and vary between every Doll. As your intimacy rating with a doll gets higher (and their level increases), you can improve these intimacy skills for free, so if you’re sitting on a bunch of gifts and are determined to love one or two of your dolls in particular, this is also a good way to nudge their stats just a little bit.
There are a lot of different resources to keep track of, too; here’s the best ways I’ve found so far to farm those resources. When the first few real events come out we’ll get a better idea of what’s considered rare and what will be easy to come by from events instead.
XP: Resource Gathering missions or the Factory. You also get a pretty decent amount from progressing the story or endless exploration, but it costs a lot of keys; resource gathering is more efficient if you just want as much XP as possible.
Neural Fragments: Resource Gathering missions (10 per day), the Neural Fragment section of the shop, or the Vulnerability Check shop. Buying fragments from the VC shop is somewhat expensive, you can only get 5 for a specific doll per reset, and the selection of fragments changes every day - but every little bit really helps!
Breakthrough Chips: (These are called ‘widgets’ but I’m calling them chips. deal with it) Resource Gathering missions, or the Vulnerability Check shop. With every reset you can get 20 purple chips or 10 orange chips for each class. They’re also pretty expensive but can help you stock up over time if you know there’s a doll you want, and they can help you get enough to push your first few dolls into their last couple breakthroughs.
Algorithms: Resource gathering missions, and as far as I know, that’s it. I think we will get these from events in the future. I haven’t unlocked “Algorithm Reconfiguration” yet (late chapter 4) which may be a way to get or improve algorithms, we’ll see.
Algorithm Boosters: These seem pretty rare! I’ve only seen them as career quest and weekly quest rewards. Be thoughtful about how you use them because they will be quite valuable.
