Tumblr media
“Ugh can you two shut up already, I’ve been dragged to every house in the neighbourhood, cut me some slack will ya” you groaned, throwing yourself onto the couch. Totally ignoring the trails of “but mom said” and “please” that followed behind you.
You had just got home from taking your younger siblings out for Trick or Treating as you did every year, however this was your first official break from starting Uni so you had hoped they’d let you off this time round. To be fair, there was never a dull moment with those two though you had to admit, even if they forced you to dress up with them.
Watching the two kids dressed as ghosts fling their tubs of candy all over the floor you sighed, “I hope you know I’m not cleaning all that up”. “Yeah yeah we know” they rolled their eyes in unison as they began their candy trade whilst you simply scrolled on your phone idly.
“Stuck babysitting once again, never gets old” you mumbled to yourself, shifting your angel wings off your back and onto the floor. Your siblings had forced you to dress as an angel but you only agreed if you could pick the clothes.
“Stop, you’re messing up our piles” your sister moaned, flinging them at your head on impulse. “HEY, STOP THAT OR I’LL HA~”, you were cut off as the doorbell rang. Your eyes turnt to the kids on the floor as if to ask if they knew who that was, yet you were met with two matching pairs of clueless eyes.
You all stayed frozen as the rings continued, over and over again until you mustered up the courage to walk over to the front door, your heart pounding out of your chest at this point as your hand hovered over the knob. Who could be at the door at this time, your house was the only one on the block that didn’t have major decorations so people knew to not come knocking.
Slowly turning the doorknob the door flew open causing you to step back a bit, standing a foot away from you was a boy who looked about your age, staring pure daggers at you. “Wrong house maybe?” you questioned sarcastically, pure vim rolling off the tongue as you retook a step forward. Who was he anyway?
“Definitely the right house” the boy scoffed, looking you up and down as he continued “I’m the babysitter, and by the looks of it, I was needed”. You stood dumbfounded as he swerved straight past you and into your living room, turning to face him you retorted, “Wait a minute, you can’t just waltz up into people's houses like that, who even are you?”.
“Sae, the babysitter as I said a second ago, now hurry up and shut the door” he huffed, scanning the cluttered floor. “Oh yeah did mom and dad not tell you? They hired a babysitter", your brother spoke up before going back to his candy exchange. “Weren’t saying that when we were statues two minutes ago were ya. Didn’t wanna mention that huh?” you sighed, face planting your hand before shutting the door behind you.
Why would your parents hire a babysitter if they knew you were staying the night? You weren’t a little kid anymore, what was the point of that? Not to mention the dude didn’t look like he’d be good with people in general, let alone kids, where’d they even find him.
You watched as Sae strolled across the room scanning it thoroughly, same blank face plastered on his face as before, “well then? Start cleaning up this trash, it's late”. You stood behind the couch, since he’s the babysitter tonight you thought ‘maybe I’ll get a break after all’.
The twins scoured the man with looks of disgust as he barked orders almost immediately, “and who are you to tell us what to do?” “We are in the middle of a candy exchange”. “They got a point” you sniggered under your breath, turning away sharply as he glared at you.
“I won’t ask you again, sort this out.” the guy ordered, hovering over the two as if they were ants. Should you step in? You weren’t the babysitter but maybe that was a bit harsh. As you went to tap him from behind the twins nodded, beginning to tidy away their candy in silence.
“Now how did that work?” you muttered to yourself, you’d have to bribe them with a year's supply of goods to even get them to brush their teeth, let alone tidy up while they're in the middle of doing something. “And why aren’t you helping them?” Sae asked, back still to you as the kids hurried to pack away their candy.
“Umm, maybe because I don’t need a babysitter, nor do I need a strange pink haired boy telling me what I should and shouldn’t do in my own house” you pointed out. What was not clicking for this guy; first he comes to the house unannounced and now he's barking orders? What is going on today, where did your parents even find this guy, maybe if yall met at a party you could have hit it off but God was he rubbing you up the wrong way right now.
You heard a faint sigh from him as he took a step to the side before pointing at the staircase, “N’ go on, I don’t even want to see your faces till your parents get back”. Your face showed an expression of pure disbelief as you watched your siblings almost march up the stairs with a simple “okay, goodnight”, no rebuttal, no fight back, just compliance.
As you tried to comprehend the scene that just played out before you, Sae managed to make his way around you, his hand trailing your waist and to your hand, gripping it ever so slightly “I don’t need a strange pink haired babysitter telling me what I should and shouldn't do, was it?” he chuckled, reiterating what you had already said prior while pulling your hand closer, your back pressed up against his left side as he examined it.
“Maybe I should make you eat those words angel”, “what are you doing, this isn't very professional of you mr babysitter” you spat, did he really think this would be the case of easy girl sleeps with the hot babysitter.
“Is there something in the air today” you scowled, yanking your hand out of the guys grasp and turning to face him, your back hoving just in front of the couches back, “If you’re a babysitter, what’s with the fangs and pointy tail hmm?”, “Oh you like em?” he smirked.
You stood your ground as the guy inched closer and closer to you till he was almost towering over you, your eyes refusing to meet his while you spoke “No, do babysitters usually dress as… Wait a minute”.
“You didn’t come in the house wearing that, what are you?” you stuttered, your eyes darting around his body taking in all the new features. There was no way something like that could have slipped your mind, absolutely no way. “Oh lighten up angel it’s just a costume, maybe you’re just exhausted and didn’t notice. But hey, if you wanted a closer look you could've just asked” he ribbed.
You could feel Sae’s presence as he stepped closer, his cold body radiating an eerie aura that made your heart almost instantly start racing like never before. His icy hot hands cupped your face, trapping you in his gaze till you could no longer move your own body, it almost felt as if there was someone else in your skin and you were just the mere shell.
Under the trance he had put you under, your lips met in an all-consuming kiss, every inch of your body quivered with nothing but lust and desire but you had no control anymore. A small moan slipped your lips allowing him full access, tasting every inch of your mouth as your tongue wrapped around his.
Deepening the kiss, Sae slid his hands down your tight fitted dress, tracing every curve of your body as he lifted you with ease, wrapping your legs around his waist and arms around his neck. Sae walked you both around the couch, laying you on the cushions below yet your lips never broke apart.
“Sae please” you whined needily against his lips, pulling him in as close as you could. “Oh don’t worry, I’ll give it to you” he snickered, breaking away from you, a trail of saliva still connecting you both as he looked into your eyes, “It’ll be the last thing you get”.
Those words resonated with you, what was even happening right now. Fear started to sink in as he gazed into your fearful eyes, all you could see back was corruption and death. Sleeping with him was one thing, but what did he mean by “it'll be the last thing you get?”. You weren’t even sure which thoughts were yours and which were his that were being planted in your head.
Sae ran his fingers down to your underwear, the trail of a icy hot burn lingering where they touched as he slipped them down your legs and onto the floor in one swoop. Without warning he pushed himself between your legs with a groan that was lost amongst your own curses, “did I catch you off guard” he asked sarcastically, pressing his lips against yours to swallow your cries.
The heated kiss intensified as the guy slid his hand under your shirt, feeling the warmth of your breast as he took your harden nipple between his fingers, twisting ever so slightly every now and then. He could feel himself harden as he touched you, a feverish heat coursed through his veins.
With every thrust you felt a fiery coldness inside you that was both unbearable and exhilarating - it was almost as if he was feeding off of your energy, taking pleasure from your body beneath him. “Fu~ck I need you” Sae groaned against your ear between moans, your body was taking him so well. You clung to him, your breathing becoming heavier as he moved inside you.
You wanted him so badly in this moment yet you knew you didn’t want to die, your mind couldn’t even comprehend the situation you were in at this point. Pain, lust, fear and desire just mixing into one as your body held onto him. There was nowhere to run, nowhere to hide and pretend this was a nightmare, this was your reality and there was nothing you could do. You had no control over your actions.
“You’re so fucking warm” he grunted, his thrusts getting deeper and more frantic as you cried out his name over and over again, tears streaming down your cheeks from the sensations. “S~Sae” you choked out, your eyebrows furrowed as his tip continuously pressed against your sweet spot, it almost felt as if with every stride more air left your body. You were almost suffocating but he made you feel so good.
The sounds of skin slapping against one another and passionate moans filled the large room, Sae’s body almost seeming to get more powerful as your needy cunt swallowed him in each time he grew faster.
“Sae please, i’m so close” you begged, your foreheads almost resting on one another's while he fucked you, your eyesight slowly fading away with each thrust. “Fuck I wish I could keep you to myself, too bad I gotta let you die” he cursed, not wanting to have to let you go, but as an incubus he had no choice.
“Go one, cum for me, paint this cock white before you go” he grinned, his vulgar tone hooking you in one final time, all that was on your mind was the need to fulfil your sexual appetite. Doing as told you came, your walls constricted around him, milking him dry but also coating his shaft completely.
“That’s it” he hissed, longing out his thrusts to allow you to enjoy your final orgasm before sliding out of you. Your vision began to blur and your eyes grew heavy, the realisation that you were fading away hitting you once again.
You just wanted to slip away and forget everything, before you could drift away Sae whispered in your ear, “Can’t let you go without leaving my mark can I?”.
He sunk his fangs into your neck, an odd coolness running through your veins as he did, any energy you had left escaping as you took your final breath. This was it, this was how it would end for you, where did it all go wrong? Would he have left if you hadn’t opened the door? So many unanswered questions but sadly, time was up for you.
“So sweet, just how I like em” Sae laughed, composing himself while taking in the sight of your cold lifeless body laid on the couch. You were nothing more than a vessel to help him regain his power, however he had to admit, you felt different, not many were able to resist an incubus for as long as you could. But no matter the circumstances you had to pay with your life, life didn’t always get to go smoothly for everyone, life isn’t fair.
Just as those thoughts popped into his mind, Sae heard a car pull into the driveway. As he waltzed out of the house a man blocked his way, a confused expression on his face as he spoke, “erm, who are you and what are you doing here? I was told I was babysitting children”.
Glaring daggers at the smaller built man who looked no older than you, Sae rolled his eyes, “I don’t think it matters now anyway, you’re too late”. Stepping to the side and off into the distance Sae muttered, pointing back towards the babysitter, “But I will say, you’d better get ready to explain the scene in there”.
Following the direction of Sae’s point the babysitter shuddered, panic and fear seeping in as he turnt the door handle to see the most horrific scene he had ever seen. Turning back in pure terror, the pink haired guy was already gone into the night.

Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x Fem!Reader (hurt and comfort)
Word Count: 3.7k
Content Warning: gunshot injury, mention of blood
There had been a debate about who would go and talk to him. Reid counted the pros and cons once they voted him off because they all worried he would launch into the statistics about whether or not she was going to live- statistics that weren't good-
JJ was too upset to be giving counsel and Morgan was on the phone with Garcia, trying to provide her with some comfort- something that was going unsuccessfully.
So that left Prentiss and Rossi, both of which didn't exactly want the job. It's seemingly impossible to offer advice to someone who never needed any, especially when this was easily one of the worst days of his life.
Emily volunteered so that Rossi could go back to the precinct with everyone else and wrap up the rest of the case, another job that was usually left for Aaron.
They could all feel the pain radiating off him as he sat in the uncomfortable hospital chair without moving an inch. Even if he would deny he cared about her more than anyone else, Emily was determined to do something.
"You should change." She told him, handing over a shirt and some dress pants of his that JJ had brought from his go bag once they realized he would not be leaving the hospital.
Aaron didn't move an inch. He stayed sat there with his body hunched over and his elbows resting on his knees, barely acknowledging her. His blue dress shirt was covered in blood, but he'd loosened his tie and unbuttoned the top button.
It isn't meant to happen once to someone- being covered in the blood of someone you love- but it's happened to him twice now. Only this time, there was some tiny hope that the woman he loved would get to live and he was between trying to hold on to that hope and preparing himself for what was statistically the most likely outcome.
Aaron didn't even turn his head to look at her, but she could see the shiny tears against his cheek. "Do you know the last time I told her I loved her?" He asked, a question so far out of left field that she couldn't hide the way her mouth dropped open in shock.
"I didn't even know..." She started, unsure how to finish the thought.
"No one did." He cut her off, wondering whether or not the decision was right. If they had come clean with everyone then at least he would have been able to hold her hand in the SUV on the way to the unsub's house.
Emily looked back at where the team had been standing. "Rossi's claiming he did." She countered.
It made Aaron scoff lightly. If they weren't in the hospital and if there wasn't a large chance she was going to die, it might have been sweet for Rossi to insist he knew they loved each other just from the way they looked at each other.
"So...how long?" She asked.
Aaron knew she was trying to distract him, trying to get his mind off a situation he couldn't do anything about, so he played ball. "A year and a half, we live together."
Once again, Emily couldn't stop the shock etched on her features. She had no idea how none of them notice for so long. "Are you going to tell me that story then?"
Summertime in DC not only meant that it was warm in the mornings, but it also meant the sun was up earlier enough that Y/n and Aaron didn't have to wake up in the dark. Instead, once the obnoxious sounding alarm went off, they could open the curtains and the golden light could stream into the bedroom.
"Good morning." He mumbled, his cheek against his pillow so he could look at her while he lay face down on the bed.
"Hey." She replied, cupping his cheek and leaning forward so she can kiss him. It was past odd to see him like this, but occasionally she still thought about when he barely smiled and how lucky she was to see him with a smile and no shirt almost every day.
Aaron couldn't help the smile on his lips when she pulled away. He wrapped his arm around her waist, trying to close the distance that had been created between them in the night.
She stayed laying on her side, placing kisses all over his cheeks while tangling their legs together. "You kinda need to shave." She mumbled, fingers resting on the slight stubble along his chin.
"Heard no complains last night." He reminded her with a cheeky smirk.
"Be quiet." She scolded playfully. Aaron shook his head against the pillow, hair flopping around. In one motion, he turned over onto his back and pulled her on top of him. "We're going to have to get up in a moment, you know?" She asked, wrapping her arms around his waist regardlessly.
He shook his head again, nuzzling into her neck. "No, don't wanna."
"The team needs their leader, Hotchner." She told him, half-jokingly as she pulled back to give him the full effect of a peptalk. "You need to give the people what they want."
That made him laugh, his chest moving her up and down. "I'm all about giving a couple of special people what they want." He remarked, resting their foreheads together while he drew circles against her bare skin.
"So, you're making breakfast then?" She asked, smirking at him.
"I walked right into that, didn't I?" He returned, although he had no problem at all with it.
Y/n nodded, a joyful smile on her face at the little victory. "I would make you, but I actually want to." She decided.
"Then you're always going to be Jack's favorite." He pouted, big brown eyes locked on hers.
"Aw, that's so sad." She said sarcastically, a smile on her lips.
He used the hands that he had at her side to tickle her waist, making her squirm around on top of him while giggling. "Not stopping till you apologize." He declared.
"S-sorry! Sorry, sorry." She squealed out, thrashing around until he stopped. "Jeez, someone woke up on the wrong side of bed." She huffed.
"Y/n L/n, I will go again." He cautioned, hands back on her waist again threateningly.
She shook her head. "Not if you want breakfast, you won't."
"Fine, fine." He conceded, holding his hands up.
With one hand, she grabbed both his wrists. "You're in trouble now." She warned, using her other hand to try and tickle him in revenge.
"Sweetheart, I'm not ticklish." He reminded her.
"I'll get you back." She promised, still holding his wrists together. "When you least expect it."
He used how much stronger he was than her to flip them around, so his knee was between her thighs and he was leaning over her. "I can't wait." He whispered in her ear in agreement.
Y/n leaned up to run her hand through his hair. "Don't get too sexy with me, Aaron. Otherwise, there will be no BAU today."
"Don't tempt me." He quipped, getting up off the bed. It was beautiful to see him so relaxed in the mornings, a grin on his face.
Y/n held her hands out so he would pull her up. He did so effortlessly and wrapped his arms tightly around her to hug her. For a minute, they stood like that, Aaron with his head on top of hers, and Y/n with her head buried into his chest.
"I'll shower, and you do breakfast?" He asked, reiterating their plan.
"Mhm." She agreed, leaning up to kiss him before they split and he sauntered off to the ensuite while she went through their bedroom door.
Jack's room was down the hallway in the townhouse they brought and moved into months ago. It would have been nice to have the team helping them; Garcia helping with the decor, Morgan lifting the heavy furniture, Reid to figure out how to get their couch in the small doorway, JJ to provide a friend for Jack, Rossi to bring the celebratory scotch, and Prentiss to bring the snacks. But it didn't work out like that, and they were still happy.
Jack wasn't in his bedroom, but the Captain America covers were perfectly made, so she continued her search down the hall. "Good morning, little man." She greeted him, leaning against the bathroom doorframe as she watched him spit out his mouth full of toothpaste in the sink.
"Not little." He complained, hanging up his toothbrush before getting down off the bathroom stool. "I've grown 4 inches since kindergarten, dad said."
"Well, if you wanna grow some more, then you're going to need some breakfast, big man." Y/n reminded him, following after the 6-year-old as he bounced down the hallway, and to the kitchen.
Jack was already talking about his day and about all the things he was going to do on that particular Tuesday in first grade, and Y/n was listening intently like usual. She always found him interesting, even if he was talking about kid stuff.
"Get on up, partner." She instructed, nodding to the bar stool and walking to the other side of the kitchen island. She opened the fridge, pouring him the glass of apple juice he had every morning while she spoke. "What are you feeling like on this beautiful morning?"
"Pancakes." He cheered, amending his speech when Y/n shot him a look with raised eyebrows. "Pretty please."
She nodded at his request, turning back around to get some more things out of the fridge before she started making the pancakes on the stretch of bench in front of Jack.
"Do you ever feel scared?" Jack asked an out-of-left-field question she was used to getting from him.
Except this question sounded like it could be adjacent to his mom. "Sometimes, but daddy and I are always super safe." She assured him.
He still looked like the cogs of his mind were turning. "Did you know my mom?" There it was, and she wished Aaron was there to help her navigate her answer.
"I didn't." She answered honestly. "But she must have been pretty amazing to make you."
"I still talk to her sometimes," Jack revealed casually.
She was thankful he felt like he could talk about it openly because she never wanted him to feel censored. "That's good, bud. I'm sure she's looking out for you."
"I think she's looking out for Daddy and you, too." He told her.
"It makes me really happy that you think that, Jack. Thank you." She said honestly, feeling a bit teary-eyed at such an early hour of the morning.
As quick as the conversation was there, it was gone, and Jack was talking about his friend's birthday party on the weekend.
She turned to the stove once she finished the mixture. Then Jack giggled just a second before two tight arms were wrapping around her waist.
The shock made her squeal and spin around to hit his shoulder. "Aaron Hotchner." She growled as Jack burst into a fit of giggles. Aaron clearly found it funny too and she could feel his chest move as he chuckled.
"Sorry, sorry." He apologized insincerely with a smile on his face. She couldn't even stay faux mad with him while he held her, strong forearms holding her tightly as he rested his head on top of hers.
The cologne she loved so much was stronger than the smell of pancakes due to how close he was standing. Compared to his dress shirt, tie, and dress pants, she was dressed in only a shirt of his and some of her pajama shorts.
"You better be sorry if you want any of these pancakes." She threatened without any malice as she flipped the last few pancakes.
Aaron let go of her after he kissed her cheek, taking the stack of pancakes and holding them out so Jack could put some on his own plate.
"Thank you, Y/n," Jack said, smiling at her as he tipped strawberries onto his plate.
"Bud, I think that's enough sugar," Aaron told him when he kept tipping the jar out. He pouted a little before continuing to eat his pancakes. The adults stayed on the other side of the bench while they ate, where they could watch each other and Jack.
Their usual morning routine progressed, and Y/n went to take a shower while Jack got dressed and Aaron cleaned up and made him lunch.
"Hey, bud, did you want grapes or an apple?" Aaron asked when Jack walked back into the kitchen, dressed with his backpack.
"Grapes." He answered, sitting down to put his shoes on. "Do you know what I was talking to Y/n about before?" Aaron didn't, and he shook his head while assuming it was something about his school. "Mom." He revealed.
Aaron kept a neutral face while he made Jack's lunch. "Are you feeling okay?"
"Yeah," Jack assured him, providing more relief than he probably realized. "I think mom would have liked Y/n. She looks after me like mom always did."
"That's very sweet of you, Jack." He replied, a little bit stunned by the little boy and unsure of what to say. "I hope your mom would think that too." He commented, closing the lunch box. and handing it to the little boy. "Come give me a hug."
Jack obliged, wrapping himself around his dad's legs before Aaron picked him up. "What are we doing this weekend?" He asked, his brain already somewhere else when Aaron put him back down.
"You can pick whatever you want. We'll be back by then." Aaron promised, watching as Jack packed his bag.
"The jumpy place." Jack immediately decided.
"Perfect, we'll go that then." He agreed. "I'll go see if Y/n's ready, okay?"
Aaron had half expected her to be finished getting ready by now, considering she wouldn't have washed her hair since she did it the night before and that her go-bag was already packed.
When he got into the bedroom, Y/n was still in the bathroom. "Hey, love, are you alright?"
She looked at the pattern of the tiled deeper than she ever had before as she sat on the countertop. "Yeah, I'm good." She lied, hoping he wouldn't detect it in her voice. "I might drive myself, though. There's something I need to do, and I don't wanna make you or Jack late." It was only sounding more and more like a lie. "I'll bring you coffee."
It was good enough for Aaron, who was slightly frowning as he noticed her go-bag on the bed. "Okay, I'll see you in there then." He decided it was better not to argue when he checked his watch for the time. "I love you." He called out.
Y/n smiled, although she didn't exactly feel like it. "I love you, too. Tell Jack I love him."
Aaron missed almost all of the little details as he retold the story to Emily, still private about their lives even if everyone now knew. "I didn't think... that would be the last time." He said sadly.
"It won't." Emily tried to assure him. Even if she wasn't sure of it herself, she was going to do everything in her power to convince him of it.
"Jack can't-" That thought made him out a hand over his mouth to avoid crying too loudly. "He was young when we lost Haley, young enough he doesn't remember too much of it, but he's 6, almost 7 now, and he's going to understand what it means when she doesn't come home." He rambled a little, revealing how nervous he was.
Emily shook her head firmly. "He's not going. She'll be fine."
"This." Aaron gestured down to the blood drenching the shirt he had been wearing that morning in the kitchen. "Isn't fine. They don't think she'll be fine."
It was his worst nightmare all over again, but this time there wasn't a phone call as a way of a goodbye, this time he had to hold her body before she slipped out of consciousness while her blood poured all over him.
"So the statistics aren't great, but she's Y/n, and she's not going without a fight." Emily reminded him, and he knew that much was true. "She'll be fine, Aaron, and you two can get back to your normal lives." She assured him, using his first name in a seldom occurrence. "Preferably with us involved."
The 10 hours was an excruciating wait, but Aaron knew that with each minute that went on, she was alive so he watched the clock tick with Emily sitting next to him. That whole time he didn't do anything but look at the clock on the wall and think about everything they had together and everything he wanted in the future for them.
The bloody shirt was a constant reminder of her, and every time he looked down he wondered if the last time he touched her would be on the cold concert floor of the basement when he called for a medic and attempted to act professionally.
Finally, the doctor called her name, and he prepared himself for the worst. It flashed in front of his eyes as he walked towards the doctor; crying loudly in front of everyone, pitiful looks on the jet, having to call her family, having to tell Jack when they didn't come back home together, the funeral. Would he even go back to the BAU when it had taken so many people from him?
And then he got told she was okay. Hurt, but alive and going to be able to walk out of the hospital. The doctor explained it all to him and Emily as he walked them to Y/n's room. "The bullet missed any major arteries in her chest, and by some miracle, it didn't shatter her clavicle. Even though she's on lots of pain killers, she's going to be sore when she wakes up."
Wakes up. Because Y/n was going to wake up and they were going to get to live the rest of their lives together. That was the only thing in the world that mattered to him, so much more than the team knowing.
"Agent Hotchner." The doctor stopped him before he went into the door after Emily had stepped away to call the team with the good news. "Did you know?" She asked, turning the clipboard she was holding around to show him something on Y/n's chart.
He had to read it a few times before he realized what it said, and his eyes quickly filled with tears. "No." He replied in a whisper, shaking his head.
The doctor nodded with a little smile. "She should be waking up soon." She informed him, walking away when he finally twisted the knob on the door.
Aaron couldn't believe it when he looked at her in that hospital bed, but he had never been more grateful for trauma surgeons or whatever forces of the universe had made it possible for her to still be here when she was so close to death in his arms.
He sat in the chair next to her bed, finally able to breathe fully into his lungs when he touched her hand, and it was warm. Not as warm as it should be, but much warmer than it had been in the warehouse.
She squeezed his hand first before her eyelids fluttered open. "Hi." He squeaked out, tears already falling down his cheeks. "You're in the hospital." He told her, knowing what it's like to wake up somewhere unfamiliar when you have no idea what's going on.
Her eyes were still getting adjusted to the blaring white walls of the hospital. "What happened?" She asked groggily, pointing to the water in the hopes he'd know to pour her some so she didn't have to waste the words.
He did, and he sprung up to pour her a cup. "You got shot, so badly that they didn't know if you would live."
Y/n drank the water gratefully and tried to adjust on the bed, which was incredibly painful. "The unsub?"
"Dead, and the little girl's okay." He reported back to her and he should have known it would be her main concern. "But don't think about work. How are you feeling?"
"Pretty bad." She answered truthfully, trying to find the remote so she could sit up. "I need a hug." She told him, opening her arms as much as it hurt.
Aaron quickly hugged her as delicately as possible before cupping her cheeks and kissing her gently. "I love you." He told her the one thing he wished he hadn't waited so long to say.
"I love you, too." She replied. "But there is something I need to tell you."
Aaron tried to act like he didn't know, but he jumped in with his own confession. "Me too. They know."
That was something she could live with without any problems. After all, it was a long time coming. "I sure hope they do." She joked. "You better not have treated me like a colleague, Aaron."
Seeing the color return to her face relieved him and finally convinced him everything would be okay. "They know everything." He told her. "Well, most of it."
"Yeah... that." Y/n delicately spoke, biting her bottom lip.
"How long did you know?" He softly questioned. It wasn't her intention to cause her any extra stress.
"Tuesday morning." She mumbled. That made sense to him, why she wanted to drive herself when they always dropped Jack at school and drove to the BAU together. "Don't tell me off for not telling you because I wanted it to be special, and I sure as hell didn't think I'd get shot." She quickly pleaded with him. That was the problem with having your boyfriend as your boss.
Aaron shook his head, squeezing her hand. "I'm not going to tell you off, my love." He assured her. None of it was as important as having her alive. "Not when you're alive and okay."
"And pregnant."

With an asexual s/o
notes: just some self-indulgent headcanons. i don't think this is going to get a lot of notes but the ace community deserves more content.
contains: character x gn!reader, qpr in alhaithams part, the plot twist here is that the characters in question are also on the ace-spectrum
characters included: alhaitham, diluc, pantalone
warnings: mentions of sex in the context of being asexual, hints at harassment and a bit of violence in pantalone's part (not towards the reader)

Alhaitham
Let's be real here, Alhaitham as a kid took one look at romance and sexual relations and decided that he'd have a better time with a good book and a research trip to the desert. "You'll change your mind when you get older", they said to him. And then he didn't. And everytime someone brings that up he's kinda smug about it, in a told you so kinda way. Alhaitham always knew what he wanted and didn't want and people thinking they knew better was a hassle for him he'd rather not bother with.
Alhaitham is aware of the term asexual and that he falls under it by definition but he doesn't really care for putting labels on himself as he sees no necessity to find ways to explain and define himself to people. The only time he actively labels himself as asexual is when you come out to him to make things easier for you.
Alhaitham would be considered quoiromantic; he's not sure if what he feels is romantic attraction but the concept of romantic attraction also doesn't have much significance to him.
You don't get together with Alhaitham by asking him out and going on dates with him. Your bond just kinda happens. You spend a significant amount of time in each other's presence and Alhaitham finds that he quite enjoys your company. As you become closer, he notices he looks forward to talking to you everyday; to even engage in some playful banter with you. He can talk to you about all sorts of topics and your relationship just has this feel of mutual comfort to it. You can just idly sit next to each other and exchange a couple of words and somehow people can always tell you two are close. He's clearly looking out for you and you're very considerate of his habits and preferences. You're always each other's first choice for anything, whether it's spending your freetime together, seeking advice or working on something together. Alhaitham seems more at peace and happier when he's with you and so do you.
Several people had asked you whether you two were dating or just friends and feeling unsure of where you stood with him, you decided to talk to him about it. "And why would we need to put a label on it, hmm?", he asks and wraps an arm around you affectionately, "so people can put us into categories to ease their own confusion because they struggle to clearly define our bond?"
Alhaitham thought you might have romantic feelings for him and he was half-prepared for holding you a lecture on alterous attraction and how he doesn't experience attraction and relationships the same way most people do. When you come out to him as asexual he's like "god you're making this so much easier for me."
Alhaitham reassures you that he cares deeply about you and he'd like to keep you close to him as you already were. From that moment on, Alhaitham calls you his partner and you call him that too. What that entails? No one's business.
Alhaitham doesn't often initiate physical affection but he does a lot of idle motions like putting an arm around you when you sit down next to him or leaning his head against your shoulder when he's laying next to you and reading his book. He doesn't mind if you want to kiss or cuddle though.
It's clear as day to anyone who knows you that you two love each other even if they can't exactly define what you have as either friendship or romance.
Diluc
Lisa was the one person who started off teasing Diluc a little about having so many admirers and asking him "aren't you interested in any of them?" but she also was the first to notice Diluc was probably ace before Diluc himself even noticed he worked differently than most people around him.
But oh Diluc noticed, even if he didn't have a label to put on it before he met you. He always felt a little uneasy when the topic came up because he just knew it'd result in people asking questions and him not having an answer nor particularly wanting to answer them.
By the time he met you Diluc had become quite the expert in turning people down but the more time he spent with you, the more he noticed that he didn't want to turn you down. And that this time would probably result in you turning him down. Oh how wrong he was.
He could tell you liked him as time went on but he was hesitant about taking the next step because he feared you might, by convention, expect things from him he couldn't give you. And you felt the same way. So the two of you grew gradually closer, even flirting with each other on rare occasion, all while actively dancing around the confrontation because neither of you had an idea how to address the subject
You're the one who eventually tells him how you feel and comes out to him. Diluc asks a couple of questions and listens attentively as you explain asexuality to him. Then goes: "Oh, so there is a word for it.."
You felt really relieved to hear that Diluc felt the same as you did and that you helped him make sense of his experiences. He confessed to you that for a while he was worried that there might just be something wrong with him and that he's happy that's not the case and that he gets to be with you, someone who understands him and can relate.
He has a long conversation with you about your shared experiences because this is the first time he could talk with someone else about this without being at least partially dismissed. He also talks about your boundaries with you and his as well to make sure neither of you makes the other uncomfortable with something.
After the talk Diluc feels a little exhausted because even though it was relieving and enlightening, it was also stressful and made him feel a little anxious, given that you were talking about something he mostly kept to himself up to this point.
He asks if he can kiss you and if you say yes, he leans over and kisses you softly, letting you bury your fingers in his hair. His kiss is hesitant at first but he gets more passionate with time, smiling into the kiss when he notices this is actually happening. That you accept him the way he is and love him and are kissing him.
He lets you stay with him for the night, holding you protectively against his chest.
Pantalone
Painfully aware of the fact that he's on the ace-spectrum because the rich people he scams for his plans tend to get really good at oversharing about their sexual preferences after enough wine at the banquets. The alcohol is a double-edged sword because it sometimes works in his favor since he can find out people's weak points but it's also an easy spiral into "too much information, didn't need to know this"
Several of his business partners have tried to pressure him to join them in their endeavors because they "know a club in some fairly unknown alley" or have encouraged him to "hit someone up", which he always refused. Which is what bred the joke in those circles that the only thing that man is attracted to is cold hard cash.
He had many people who tried to make advances towards him, some because they were after his money and some because he was conventionally attractive. Quite a few entitled nobles had a tendency to mistake his mischievous and suave demeanor as him being flirty when really he was just scheming how to bleed them dry of all the money they have 💀
Some of them just wouldn't take "no thank you I'm not interested" as an answer, insisting they could change that. Most of them he just shooed away. Two or three ended up with some broken bones because they took it a step too far.
Pantalone has seen some shit and been through a lot and he hasn't been given physical affection in over a literal decade so he's actually fairly hesitant and receiving affection from you and he needs to warm up a bit to the idea of being kissed and held.
When you tell him you're asexual he's like "oh thank god, me too."
He always asks before he initiates any new physical contact or kisses you in a place he hasn't before to make sure to not overstep any of your boundaries. After all, he's receiving the patience from you he craved but most people wouldn't have given him.
He's pretty sex-repulsed because he spent too much time around the worst kind of people for the sake of harbinger business.
He's clingy and extremely gentle with you in private and will love you with all his heart but if anyone dares to give you shit over your asexuality or bothers you they'll receive the iciest death glare that banker is capable of. The one more step and you're a dead man kinda expression.
He'll smile and go "My, my, it sounds like you had quite the exciting day, my friend" at some rich, slightly intoxicated merchant making small talk with him at a gathering and telling Pantalone about all his pursuits of women and his affairs in detail but the second that person is out of sight, Pantalone's face falls and he looks at you with an "I'm done" expression. "I don't want to be here", he says dryly and you suggest to get another mousse au chocolat from the buffet and share it with him. "Yeah, let's", he takes your hand and glances at the guy who talked to him just now, "once I have his cash I'll buy you something nice from it." "Not this again, Pantalone." He gently kisses your lips. "See it as compensation for the emotional damage this conversation gave us."
Over the course of your relationship Pantalone finds out he's actually demisexual but that doesn't change anything between the two of you either. He adapts to you with ease, no matter what your boundaries are.

hi hello if it's not too much trouble, what comics would you recommend for someone trying to study the batfamily characters and dynamics for a project? I don't know which writers to avoid or which runs are considered bad characterization. I know this varies with opinion but you seem super familiar with the differences between fanon and canon stuff. don't worry about keeping the list short or anything, I don't have a problem with reading a lot
Honestly, this is a ‘how long is a piece of string’ question, but I can give you some pointers.
Which 'family' characters are you looking at, and which dynamics do you want? Because the thing is, this varies significantly over time. What I can do for you is roughly discuss a bunch of different eras, and what's good content to look at in each of them.
A shortcut - you're often well served by looking at a Gotham-wide Event during the period you're interested in. Sure, people often have some objections to some of the characterisation, but if you're looking at how characters interact, they're the best place to see lots of variations.
In addition 'bad characterisation' is largely in the eye of the beholder. There's actually less agreement on what is and isn't 'bad characterisation' than you might think - it depends on who you're talking to and what stories they like. Characterisation with comics characters is best thought of as a sliding spectrum - there's a range that most people will accept, and when characters go outside it people start getting unhappy. I'll try to note major shifts or universe resets or retcons along the way though.
Pre-Crisis:
Look there is very little in pre-crisis you need to look at for this. Sometimes people will pull stuff forward for Dick and Jason as Robin or Barbara as Batgirl, but largely things stand without this.
Post-Crisis:
I'm happy to walk you through post-crisis up to 2011. I'm still getting a handle on 2011 to present myself.
The Early Days: Bruce as Batman, Dick as Robin, Barbara as Batgirl
In the beginning, there was Batman. One day he went to Haly's Circus where he saw two acrobats falling and their devastated son...you know how this one goes.
Pretty much everything set in this period is flashback stories, so they frequently retread the same ground over and over. Want to see the Graysons fall? You're in luck! Choose one of the more than a dozen versions! (I'm not going to list them all even though I like many)
Quality stories looking at this period include:-
Batman Year One (1986) - Batman #404-407. I am recommending this, yes, even though it's Frank Miller, because it gets referenced a lot. It's a decent retelling and the best work Miller's ever done for the Bat books by a long shot. Bruce's origin story.
Robin: Year One (2000) - Chuck Dixon and Scott Beatty. This is probably my preferred version of early Bruce and Dick stories, and it's conveniently got a sequel in...
Batgirl: Year One (2003) - Chuck Dixon and Scott Beatty. Barbara's origin as Batgirl and the only one worth reading. These two update the Dick and Barbara as Robin and Batgirl dynamics into post-Crisis.
Batman Chronicles: The Gauntlet (1997) - Bruce Canwell. This is a single issue about the 'final exam' test Dick took to become Robin. I really enjoy it.
Robin & Batman (2021) - Jeff Lemire. A very recent update of early Dick as Robin. If you want something recent and quick, this is the pick. The characterisation is good but I have a bunch of quibbles with the details.
World's Finest: Batman/Superman (2022) - Mark Waid & Dan Mora. Here's a current ongoing for you! A rarity in that is set reasonably late Dick's time as Robin, and it also doesn't repeat identical beats to those above. Lots of Bruce and Dick, strong Silver Age vibes in relationships, and a lot of fun. A great intro to the wider DC simultaneously too.
Robin II: Bruce as Batman, Dick as Nightwing, Jason as Robin, Barbara as...around
Honestly this is a period I'm weaker on. Jason's post-crisis run as Robin is pretty compact: Batman #401-428 and 'Tec #568-582. Jim Starlin's the writer who wanted to kill Jason off.
Batman #408-411 (1987) - Max Collins. The original post-Crisis 'Dick Becomes Nightwing' and 'Jason becomes Robin' story.
The Diplomat's Son - Batman #424 (1988) - Jim Starlin. This is the issue everyone talks about, where Felipe Garzonas dies. You should read it just to understand the debate, if nothing else.
A Death in the Family - Batman #426-428 (1988) - Jim Starlin. Jason's death. You should read this if you want to understand the dynamics surrounding these events and what actually happened.
The New Teen Titans - look I can't get my head around the numbering of NTT, but if you want to go into this there are eleventy million guides. NTT is very popular. This is Dick as Nightwing during this period, Marv Wolfman and George Perez working together, and considered by people who like Nightwing during this period as the definitive version. Jason appears in a few issues.
Nightwing Year One (2005) - Nightwing #101-106, Chuck Dixon. Now this is going to be extremely controversial, but I do actually recommend people read Nightwing Year One. It's a retcon, but it's an important retcon because it lays out the dynamics of Jason's time as Robin as comics writers have changed them to be following his death. If you want to see how comics writes Jason as the 'angry' and 'risky' Robin following his death, this is the most compact way to see how the narrative changed.
Batgirl Special #1 (1988) - Barbara Randall. Barbara's last appearance as Batgirl. Randall is Barbara's best contemporary Batgirl writer, and this is a loving sendoff for a character who was about to get shredded.
The Killing Joke (1988) - Alan Moore. You should probably read it. Barbara is shot in the spine. However if you want to skip it that's completely fine as the relevant beats have been retold almost as many times as the Graysons have fallen.
Gotham Knights #43-45 (2003) - Scott Beatty. This is probably the best telling of the fallout of Jason's death on the family, particularly Barbara's reaction. If you want Batfam dynamics this is what you should look at.
New Beginnings: Bruce as Batman, Dick as Nightwing, Tim as Robin, Barbara as Oracle, Helena as Huntress, Steph as Spoiler
This is an interesting period in that it's the first threads of what we now call the Batfamily, but they're only just starting to come together as Tim picks each one up. (No, seriously. This era is 'Tim meets people and works with them')
Also as will be the case for a while from here on, at least 50% of all content is written by Chuck Dixon. Now Dixon has his downsides - he's notoriously a conservative homophobe and his views can be seen in the text quite frequently, but he is really good at writing relationships between characters, and he loves a crossover. If you love the modern Batfam, you do have to acknowledge Dixon for his work.
A Lonely Place of Dying (1989) Batman #440-442, New Titans #60-61 - Marv Wolfman & George Perez. Tim's origin story. Very clear on the outset dynamics between Bruce and Dick.
Identity Crisis (1990) Batman #455-457 - Alan Grant. Tim's first night out as Robin in his own costume, plus early dynamics between Bruce & Tim. A tear jerker.
To the Father I Never Knew (1992) Batman #480 - Alan Grant. If you want to actually understand the foundation of Jack and Tim's relationship and how he contrasts it with his relationship with Bruce - look no further.
Robin III (1992) - Chuck Dixon. A very early Tim team-up with Huntress. This is a good place to start for how her relationship with the other Bats evolves in Gotham.
'Tec #647-649 (1992) - Chuck Dixon. Steph's original time out as Spoiler. Again foundational dynamics.
Oracle Year One (1996) Batman Chronicles #5, John Ostrander and Kim Yale. The story of how Barbara became Oracle. Stunning. Essential.
Knightfall: Bruce as Batman, JPV as Azrael and Batman, Dick as Nightwing and Batman, Tim as Robin, everyone else keeping out the way
Knightfall is huge and messy and all over the place but there is magic in here. You just have to dig. Parts I particularly like for family dynamics:-
Batman: Sword of Azrael (1992) - Dennis O'Neil. This is an excellent intro to John-Paul Valley, and get comfortable, because this is what Denny's going to write for the next 10 years.
Batman #488 (1993) - Doug Moench. JPV starts working at Wayne Corp. Tim is assigned to teach him the ropes as a crimefighter in Gotham.
Batman #500 (1993) - Doug Moench. JPV becomes Batman. Dick turns up to complain to Tim about Bruce being insufferable. It's all here.
Bloodbath #1 (1993) - Dan Raspler. This is a terrible comic BUT it also contains some gold dynamics between JPV, Dick and Tim.
Knightsend (1994) - team written. Bruce, Dick and Tim work together to help Bruce rehab from his injury and take down JPV. Legends of the Dark Knight #63 in particular is stunning.
Prodigal (1994) - team written. Dick as Batman and Tim as his Robin. The final issue, Robin #13, has Bruce and Dick's reconciliation over both the fight when Dick became Nightwing AND their fight after Jason died. Essential.
Welcome to the Family: Bruce as Batman, Dick as Nightwing, Tim as Robin, JPV as Azrael, Barbara as Oracle, Helena as Huntress, Steph as Spoiler
I will fight to convince you that this is the first true 'Batfam'. Everything prior to this is Bruce and his Robin, with occasional associates. This is where it goes from the Dynamic Duo to a network who intersect constantly.
Writers: It's a lot of Doug Moench and Chuck Dixon still.
Nightwing: Alfred's Return and Batman #521 (1995) - Alan Grant & Doug Moench. Alfred quit during Knightfall due to what Bruce was doing to himself. This is how Dick got him to come home, and the reunion.
Contagion (1996) - team written. The Event where Gotham gets the Clench (aka Ebola). Massive teamup storyline featuring Bruce, Dick, Tim, JPV, Helena, Selina, and Barbara.
Legacy (1997) - team written. Oh no, it's the Clench Round Two. Here we go again. Basically the same team, but JPV doesn't get invited after he proved he'd forgotten was a fax machine was last event, and Helena gets a more significant role.
Robin important family issues during this period: #17 (with Helena), #29-30 (with Barbara), #34 (with Helena), #35 (with Steph), #45 (with Jack Drake), #47 (with Dick)
Nightwing important family issues during this period: #6 (with Tim), #7 (with Babs), #13-14 (with Bruce), #16 (with Babs)
Birds of Prey important family issues during this period: Birds of Prey Manhunt, as it sets the tone for Barbara and Helena's relationship for a WHILE.
No Man's Land: Bruce as Batman, Dick as Nightwing, Tim as Robin, JPV as Azrael, Helena as Huntress and the Bat, Barbara as Oracle, Steph as Spoiler, Cass as Batgirl
The earthquake where everything goes wrong. The most notable addition to the writing pool is Greg Rucka. Honestly this is a 'so many parts of this are worthwhile, read it all' sort of period, but to help navigate there's a handful of really important points:-
Nightwing #20 (1998) - Chuck Dixon. The Dick, Babs and Tim reunion issue during Cataclysm. The world's fallen apart but they're back together.
Nightwing #25 (1998) - Chuck Dixon. Dick takes Tim trainsurfing
Brotherhood of the Fist (1998) - Chuck Dixon. This is a teamup with Connor Hawke involving Bruce, Dick and Tim. I love the dynamics here.
Huntress/Spoiler Special - Blunt Trauma (1998) - Chuck Dixon. The one Helena and Steph team up during Cataclysm. Get a dynamic you won't see anywhere else.
'Tec #725 (1998) - Chuck Dixon. Dick tells Bruce that he's going to become a cop.
'Tec #727 (1998) - Chuck Dixon. Another Dick, Babs and Tim teamup to take on Firefly.
Mark of Cain (1999) - Kelley Puckett. Cass's intro story.
Birds of Prey #8 (1999) - Chuck Dixon. Dick and Babs visit Haly's Circus
Robin #67 (1999) - Chuck Dixon. Tim and Dick break into No Man's Land.
Legends of the Dark Knight #120 (1999) - Greg Rucka. Team reunion in NML at the Clocktower.
Nightwing #38-39 (1999) - Chuck Dixon - Babs looks after an injured Dick in the Clocktower.
Legends of the Dark Knight #125 (1999) - Greg Rucka. Bruce and Jim finally discuss their issues. Barbara and Tim wait upstairs.
Endgame (1999) - various. Whole team works to track down Joker and some kidnapped babies on Christmas Eve.
A New City, A New Team: Bruce as Batman, Dick as Nightwing, Tim as Robin, JPV as Azrael, Barbara as Oracle, Helena as Huntress, Cass as Batgirl, Steph as Spoiler
This is the final Chuck Dixon era, the Rucka & Brubaker run on Batman and 'Tec, Devin Grayson on Gotham Knights, and probably my favourite era of comics ever. It's hit after hit after hit. Pick up any comic here. You won't be disappointed.
Major highlights not to miss:
Gotham Knights #1-12 (2000) - Devin Grayson. GK is my favourite Bat anthology book ever, but this run includes Transference. The overarching plot is Bruce analysing his team in a series of case notes. Unmissable.
Hunt for Oracle (2000) - Chuck Dixon. The US government tries to track Oracle down. Babs, Dick and Dinah make sure they fail.
Officer Down (2001) - various. Jim Gordon is shot. This is the consequences as people search for his attacker.
Joker Last Laugh (2001) - various. Joker thinks he is about to die and breaks out of the Slab. Chaos ensues. This is the one where everyone thinks Croc kills Tim, and reacts accordingly.
Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive (2002) - various. Bruce has been pushing everyone away for a while, so when he's accused of murder, they must ask the question, did he do it? Everyone tries to solve the mystery of who killed Vesper Fairchild, and Bruce goes through one of his 'am I Bruce or am I Batman' periods.
Batgirl #18 & #20 (2001) - Kelley Puckett. Cass' first team ups with Tim and Steph respectively.
Batman/Huntress: Cry for Blood (2000) - Greg Rucka. THE definitive Batfam Huntress book.
Hush It Looks Like War: Bruce as Batman, Dick as Nightwing, Tim as Robin, Barbara as Oracle, Helena as Huntress, Cass as Batgirl, Steph as Spoiler and Robin
Among the drama of Murderer/Fugitive, almost every single book gets a new writer. Jon Lewis takes Robin followed by Bill Willingham, Devin Grayson takes Nightwing, Birds of Prey gets fills until Gail Simone picks it up, Dylan Horrocks takes over Batgirl, Jeph Loeb writes Hush on Batman, Scott Beatty takes Gotham Knights. Personally I endorse basically all these runs but Grayson on Nightwing is controversial.
Hush (2003) Batman #608-619 - Jeph Loeb. Famous for a reason, this is a Bruce story that touches on his relationships with almost EVERY major character in his life (Cass and Steph miss out).
Gotham Knights - Scott Beatty. I don't know what to pick here but #47-49 is a team story of Bruce, Dick, Tim and Cass following Bane to a Kobra stronghold which shows off the developed family-like relationship between the 4 at this point.
Robin - Jon Lewis. Your highlights here are Tim and Steph on a date together (#111), and the 16th Birthday Story (#116-120) because it's essential to understanding where Tim and Bruce are at.
Robin - Bill Willingham. Jack finds out Tim is Robin. Tim quits. Steph becomes Robin. It's an essential arc.
Nightwing - Grayson. This is widely disliked but #81 is a great Dick, Bruce and Cass issue.
Birds of Prey - Simone. Helena joins Barbara on the Birds of Prey. They very, very slowly work through their issues with each other.
Batgirl - Horrocks. #38, Steph and Cass play tag. #45, Cass tries on Barbara's old costume. #50, Bruce drugs himself and Cass with Soul and they fight. #54, Barbara and Cass argue over her reading ability.
And then lurking in the background...War Games hits and tears the Batfam apart, with a doubletap from Identity Crisis.
Leaving Gotham: Bruce as Batman, Dick out of costume, Tim as Robin, Cass as Batgirl, Barbara as Oracle, Helena as Huntress annnnd Jason as Red Hood
Steph is dead. Barbara and Helena leave Gotham for Metropolis. Tim and Cass move to Bludhaven. Dick runs off to join the mob. And in Gotham, Red Hood appears.
Writers: Well we've added Judd Winick on Batman, and now have Andersen Gabrynch on Batgirl. Gotham Knights is now mostly A.J. Lieberman and no longer a good Batfam book (it's now a Hush book). 'Tec honestly isn't worth it during this period. Willingham on Robin has a handful of decent issues to start out then increasingly gets weirdly conservative with some very odd plotlines.
Fresh Blood (2005) Robin #132-133, Batgirl #58-59 - Willingham & Gabrynch. This is a Tim and Cass team up as they move to Bludhaven and mourn together.
Under the Red Hood (2005) - Batman #635-650. You know what this is. It's the Jason returns story.
Nightwing - Grayson. #100 - a strong reflection on Dick's past plus the most heartbreaking part of the Dick/Babs breakup as Dick just runs from all his problems. #110. Tim and Dick meet in Bludhaven and fail to tell each other all the bad things happening in their lives. #112. Dick and Helena run into each other both undercover in the mob. #117. Dick finally talks to Bruce about Blockbuster, and proposes to Babs.
Robin - Willingham. #134 is the pick of the bunch - Bruce offers to adopt Tim and Tim reflects on his time as Robin, though it's a solid little story out to #138 as the truth about Uncle Eddie comes out.
Birds of Prey - Simone. #76, the Babs side of the breakup. #83-84, Helena with the mob and encountering Dick. #90, Helena gives Bruce the new compiled mob data handbook and Bruce compliments her.
Batgirl - Gabrynch. This is a strong well loved run for the build up to Cass' final fight with Shiva, but for Batfam you can't go past #67, when Cass reunites with Babs. Also Cass hallucinates Steph twice in this run (#61 & #72).
Then Infinite Crisis arrives and we all move a year into the future.
One Year Later: Bruce is Batman, Dick is Nightwing, Tim is Robin, Jason is Red Hood, Damian arrives, Cass eventually returns to Batgirl
At this point Barbara and Helena are largely doing their own thing with the Birds of Prey and won't return to the Batfam until Reborn.
New writers all around! Adam Beechen and Fabian Nicieza on Robin, Marv Wolfman and Peter Tomasi on Nightwing, Adam Beechen on Batgirl, Grant Morrison on Batman and Paul Dini on Detective Comics.
Face the Face (2006) Batman #651-654, 'Tec #817-820 - James Robinson. The Bruce and Tim story that set up Tim's adoption.
Batman and Son (2006) Batman #655-658 - Grant Morrison. Damian's introduction to the family.
Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul (2008) - various. Ra's tries to kidnap Damian to steal his body. Bruce, Dick and Tim go to rescue him. Dick and Tim's subplot involves the highest point of their brotherhood as Dick talks Tim out of trying resurrect his lost dead.
Robin - Beechen. #156, the suicide prevention issue, for Tim and Dick. #163, Tim and Bruce on their first Father's Day. #165, Tim and Bruce working on a car together.
Robin - Nicieza. Steph's return as Spoiler. #177, where Jason thinks he can recruit Tim (and fails miserably).
Nightwing - Wolfman. You know what? #117-122, the 'Jason dresses as Nightwing and harasses Dick and turns into a tentacle monster' saga. Does everyone like to say it's out of character? Yes. Is it Jason being just as annoying as he will proceed to be all the way to 2011? Also yes. That's Jason's post-Crisis character.
Nightwing - Tomasi. Freefall, #140-146. This is just a beautiful encapsulation of Dick's many connections, of his teamwork with Bruce and Tim, and of what makes him tick.
Heart of Hush (2008) 'Tec #846-850 - Paul Dini. The premise is ridiculous, but it's about Bruce and Selina, and about Dick and Tim helping track down Hush.
Batgirl (2008) - Adam Beechen. Beechen after squiffing it with the Evil Cass saga, gets to undo the damage to Cass's character and return her to the family. I think it's a pretty successful job, despite Dick spending the entire book holding the idiot ball so someone can be unsupportive. Cass gets adopted. Tim and Barbara never lose their faith in her.
Battle for the Cowl: EVERYONE IS FREEFORM
Everyone will tell you this is all horribly out of character. They're wrong. Come for Fabian Nicieza doing hard work to actually set up characters in the places they need to be for Reborn.
Battle for the Cowl: the Network (2009) - Fabian Nicieza. Oracle and the Birds of Prey have returned to Gotham but for reasons they're not calling themselves the Birds of Prey, so it's the Network.
Oracle The Cure (2009) - Kevin VanHook. Early set up for Wendy Harris' future plot. Babs gets the mentoring itch again.
Azrael: Death's Dark Knight (2009) - Fabian Nicieza. A new Azrael for a splinter faction of the Order of St Dumas appears. Dick and Babs are immediately suspicious (and Dick has to be talked out of immediately kicking the Azrael's butt just on the SUSPICION it might be JPV).
Also the main event books happen and everyone yells at each other a lot about who should be Batman.
Batman Reborn: Bruce is missing, Dick is Batman, Tim is Red Robin, Damian is Robin, Jason is Red Hood, Barbara is Oracle, Steph is Batgirl, Cass is Black Bat
New titles! New writers! Things all over the place! People who like Jason are going to claim all of Jason's appearances are once again out of character, but Jason fans claim that about every time Jason breathes outside of UTRH, Lost Days and a small handful of very select stories after Flashpoint. I'm just saying, villain Jason is pretty consistently irritating between 2007 and 2011.
Red Robin #1-12 (2009) - Chris Yost. Not only Tim's new costume arc, but a great look at Tim's centrality as a character to the Batfam in the number of contacts he calls in at the end of the run.
Red Robin #17 & #25 (2010) - Fabian Nicieza. Tim and Cass working together as siblings and backing each other up.
Batman & Robin #20-22 (2011) - Peter Tomasi. I would strongly argue this is the best arc in B&R with the best characterisation.
Batman & Robin (2009) - Grant Morrison. Look, a lot of people like the foundation of Dick and Damian's relationship found here. Also Jason shows up to be a pain.
Streets of Gotham (2009) - Paul Dini. There's a bunch of good storylines in this anthology book, but #5-6 with Dick, Helena and Kirk Langstrom is one I particularly like.
Batman #703 (2010) - Fabian Nicieza. The best Dick, Damian and Tim team-up issue of Reborn.
Gates of Gotham (2011) - Scott Snyder. The masterpiece of Batfamily content. Dick, Tick, Damian and Cass all feature in this and all 6 possible relationships are shown in different parts.
Batgirl #3-5, #17 (2009) - Bryan Q. Miller. Damian and Steph team ups, plus a look into the tension in the Dick and Barbara relationship at the time.
Birds of Prey #10 (2011) - Gail Simone. Barbara discusses her new realignment of how she's working as Oracle and focusing on the Bats.
The Black Mirror (2010) 'Tec #871-881 - Scott Snyder. Some of the best writing of Dick as Batman during this period, and a look into his relationships with Jim Gordon, Barbara, and Tim particularly.
The Return Home (2010) - various. Bruce comes back to Gotham after his 'death' and checks in on everyone.

love the other ficlets you've done so far and excited to see what you do with this one: 9:41 pm, kensington palace, shaan
so somehow there's always one prompt per ficlet fest that won't go fluffy no matter how long i think about it. congrats? you're the winner of the angsty one this time around. sorry in advance for the feels 💜🦗
only one more day after today to request a ficlet!
kensington palace, 9:41pm
It’s almost ten o’clock at night and Shaan is waiting with a carefully blank expression at the private entrance to Kensington. Henry was meant to be in the States for another three days. Shaan was meant to be in DC tomorrow morning, spend a few days with Zahra without either of their charges (or their fellow miscreants – little shits Zahra would insist on calling them) being any the wiser, and then escort Henry back across the Atlantic.
Instead, he’d been informed by Henry’s PPO’s just after breakfast that they were on their way back early at Henry’s request. Shaan had allowed himself exactly four minutes to stare blankly into space, despairing the timing, before pulling himself together. He canceled his flight in resignation then had texted Zahra a heads up of the change in plan, snorting in a most undignified manner at the colorful turns of phrase he received in response.
The problem with planning time off, was that Shaan had adjusted his workload accordingly, wrapping up several projects in the last two days so he wouldn’t have to work while he was in DC. Now his efficiency was coming back to bite him.
The crunch of tires on the gravel and the shine of headlights brings him back to the present. The car stops just in front of Shaan and he steps forward to open the door for Henry.
“Good evening, Sir,” he says, injecting as much blandness as he can into those three words, acting as if everything is normal. Shaan’s worked with Henry long enough to know that a more frustrated reaction (no matter how much he wants to let it out) won’t help rectify the situation. Not that he knows what the exact situation is as of yet. But he can guess.
The small, secret smiles Henry’s been wearing every time he looks at his phone or offhandedly mentions the First Son were not as discrete as Henry had intended. The ease and contentment radiating from his charge had been a beacon for Shaan that Zahra had furiously confirmed the morning after the DNC. The last few months, Henry has almost been floating; he'd been so happy. So for Henry to cut short the trip to Texas he’d been looking forward to for weeks—
Something must have gone catastrophically wrong.
Henry is a shadow of himself when he clambers out of the car with precisely none of his usual grace. He’s ashen, his eyes are red and unfocused, and Shaan feels the bulk of his frustration give way to worry.
“...Sir?”
Henry hums but doesn’t move further from the car, still staring out unseeing across the grounds.
“May I suggest you make your way inside? It’s going to rain soon and the car does need to get to the garage at some point tonight,” he says, gentle as he knows how.
Henry breathes out once, then steps away from the vehicle, and Shaan’s heart sinks when he actually sees another wall go up behind Henry’s eyes. This is so much worse than he thought.
“Thank you, Shaan,” he says as he passes Shaan towards the door. He hesitates a few steps away and turns his head back just enough that Shaan can see the twitch in his jaw. “Please clear my schedule for next week. I need some time off from Royal obligations.”
“Of course.” Shaan doesn’t point out that it already is since Henry was supposed to be out of the country; just lets him continue on, at a complete loss as to how to help this time. He nods goodnight to the PPO’s and follows Henry inside, desperately hoping that things will look better in the morning.
He doubts it.

genre: vampire au, non-curse au, historical au, magic au
genre: nsfw, fluff, angst, & dc
main pairing: Vampire!Megumi x female reader
other prominent characters: Itadori, Gojo, Sukuna
content to be expected/overarching tags: slow burn/romance, blood/gore, kidnapping, domestic imprisonment, interspecies smut, death, misogyny (read: historical au), canon & vampire typical violence, vampire cultural lore drop, soulmates but not, jjk canon parallels, vague background religious themes
note: I will be tagging this story to the best of my ability, but there are some plot twists that I would like to come as a surprise. I have come up with a system for tagging that will leave all possible warnings somewhere that those who want them can readily access them, it will be linked at the top of each addition please make sure to look for it!
note for reader type:
I will be experimenting with something in this series, a named reader. It is not an oc, it will be told from 2nd person POV like normal. Reader will be female (fem body/pronouns), and like I usually do, be without physical description from that point forward. No hair/skin/body size coding. Reader will simply have a name I have the interactive characters call us by, for the sake of flow.
send ask to be tagged in the prologue this friday! (January 13th, a good day for vampires) Age in bio is a requirement. blank blogs will be ignored.
*weekly updates is the goal, not a promise!
read below for a small snippet of the prologue!
It truly is a snippet because I'm still working on a true synopsis/summary :')
The faintest glow of hope eases the coil of tension around your heart as you break through the edge of the field, and the stable comes into view. The soft glow of the lantern gives a warm light, beckoning you forth. You can hear the whickers and nervous panting of the horses inside, no doubt spooked by the screams that rise into the air like the dancing sparks of a cook fire, short and quick to perish.
You dash across the open space, your fingers reaching for the stable door, but you never reach it.
You find your body crushed against the wooden wall of the stable instead. A warm breath is now hot against your neck, sending a vile chill throughout the rest of your body.
"Do not struggle."
Melodic and stern, his voice causes you to stiffen, leaving you piteously pliant to the way he maneuvers your head and bares your neck to him, cradling you with senseless delicacy.
You had always thought you'd scream, shout, struggle for the life you so desperately cling to, but now you find yourself meeker than a mouse clasped between the talons of a hawk.
"Take heart. You will not suffer needlessly."
His words are strange, nothing but sugared words from the lips of a devil. You do not wish to feel comforted, but something in you wilts at the unexpected kindness.
His touch is hot, something you would never have imagined, as he brushes your hair back from your neck. You can do no more than gasp; he wastes no time in biting into your flesh.
A low noise sounds deep in his chest, guttural, and tinged with notes of consternation. It's a wonder you heard it at all; all other sounds have disappeared under the drums of your racing pulse. Your eyes close.
What ails him now is none of your concern. There is nothing left for you now.

HEEEEYYY... ya miss me?
well, I didn't really go anywhere but still... it feels nice to be missed.
Anyway, I've gotten some messages asking where I've been and also asking me to continue posting new stuff, and I want to let you know that I still am!
Tumblr media
Basically, I'm giving myself a fresh rope/start. This means the ideas I had planned before, I will not be focusing on or posting anytime soon and that can include some previous requests that I received.
It's not that I won't ever do them, but part of the issue of me not posting was I was putting too much pressure on myself to follow a schedule and make sure I posted this and that and forgetting what got me into posting in the first place was having ideas pop into my head and just writing them out.
So, that's where we are moving forward for now. This does not mean you won't ever see those previously planned posts or a request if you submitted one before I closed. And it also doesn't mean I won't take requests in the future. But, I want to focus on making sure I keep my creative spirit alive and not trapping myself in a box of schedules and deadlines.
Prepare for more X Reader content that will expand outside of DC, as well as original character content that I've really been wanting to do for awhile, especially with my A/B/O headcanons.
Thanks and love you guys!
Tumblr media
side note: I've been watching a lot of Henry Danger on Teen Nick since that all they keep playing right now (I'm def not complaining) and I will never get over how good Captain Man's arms look in his uniform... LIKE UUUGGGGGHHHH.
yea hehe...

Finally got around to trying the benchmark, haven't made a Hrothgal yet, but nice to see Xio still looks pretty after all the changes.
While I'm looking forward to Dawntrail, the story will have to be incredible in order to for me to stick around afterwards. After 10 years of playing I think it's time to demolish my houses, cancel my subscription and move on, returning only for a new expansion if it catches my interest.
All my friends have moved on, PF has collapsed due to DC travel making everyone move to Mana in order to do higher level content, and I struggle to work out how to make friends in the game, and while in the past I was content to be a solo player, after several years I just find it so boring.
I'll give patch 7.0 a good try, see if I can find some sort of community to join and try to make some friends to do things with. We'll just have to wait and see.

⚠️DC vs Vampires #12 Spoilers⚠️Random ending feeling talking
So let's talk about the ending. Straight to the point, I didn't really get the purpose of the end. Barbara takes the throne and becomes the new lead, then leave humanity to what… hope? You mean Kara? Ok now it looks like you suppose to write an 800 words essay but you notice the topic after you have done 750 words already, and the topic is "Dawn of DC".
Tumblr media
Honestly, I don't know why DC wants to make every elseworlds connected or slightly stick to the prime world. It's not officially said that DvV is connected to the main story, but the ending title "Dawn" gave me the first thought of it. And have a look at the neighbor issue <Dark Knight of Steel>, it is labeled as Earth-118 in <Dark Crisis Big Bang>. Who knows what's next on the menu?
Tumblr media
Back to the #12 story itself. As a DickBabs fan, I can not say I didn't enjoy the bittersweet content between my two sweet potatoes. Dick Grayson looks stunning in his dramatic leather coat that we have seen several times and I still wanna thank whoever designed this for him, you did a gods job.😇 Babs on the other hand very predictable, she tricks Dick with a soft point and makes her "feed Grayson anything he never looks what he eats anyway" plans work. To me, it's quite disappointing that the story ends in a lover's way but the family's way. As I said earlier, this story begins with Batfamily. The tragedy caused by Dick's family, it will be perfect if it ends with the family (Damian). That will be the lesson you learn to go with your brain but your kidney.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have two characters who got their one-shot issues, Harley and Damian. Harley played her character as the poison blood, very important very badass. But what does Damian do? He fights Grayson once and in the end he just… waits downstairs? Damian should be a more useful character in the final battle.
If anyone remembers there are a few interesting foreshadowing such as bringing back Bruce with Lazarus Pit and magicians trying to reverse the vampirism. I was kinda looking forward to those contents but they just snapped.🥲 (You don't even give Bruce a proper burial?? Look at his half and broken body.🥲)
Tumblr media
Another unbearable fact, don't wanna be rude but what's wrong with all the guys in this story? Half of them were torn apart with one take, good guys are keep sacrificed for protecting the big guns. Even Superman can't stand till last. (Where the hell did you get the Kryptonite sword? Batcave? And I was hoping Supes will stand by Dick's side or something? That will be cool.)
Tumblr media
Let's see the big guns. We got:
Tumblr media
Barbara, Kara, Starfire, Harley Quinn, Mary, and Jayna. All girl's power, I'm not blaming anything, but Grayson are you keeping all the badass manpower to yourself but your family and… Green Arrow? What's on your mind?🤔
Tumblr media
Let's just say, I will give 6.5/10 for the whole DC vs Vampires arc. The story is twisty, the storyline is brave, and has some not-so-good character personality writing. Mainly because it brings out too many characters at once and can't focus on the group of its skeleton. We got a very handsome (but not so smart) Dick Grayson as Vampire King and let him be taken down by his lover. Old clich but suited for the dramatic. I still kinda want Dick to win the battle. Anyway, it's a good year for Nightwing fans and DickBabs fans already. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk.

purplecyborgnewt said: But we just got him back… Maybe the new writers will find some opportunity to keep him in story anyway?
He may well hang around to help out, but if we do see him it probably won't be in the 'cozy slice of life' approach Adams set up. Which is a bummer, as I was looking forward to it.
terranerin05997 said: Mysterious Allies … It was nice at the Moment but i guess we will see him again in maybe 5 years or so. Or maybe in a pride month comic but i dont think more.
Fingers crossed that things are better than we're fearing! However, I do think we'll be seeing a lot less of him than it seemed a couple of months ago :\ (And as you can see in the post before this, he will be appearing in a reprint during Pride month. Which isn't new content but it's good DC hasn't forgotten about him.)
one-rogue-army said: @tricksterrune How did Roscoe get six extra tiles? There's plenty of ten-letter words that have "rat" in them. :)
He cheats! :>
one-rogue-army said: @gorogues @purplecyborgnewt How about Hartley watches over Central City and all, while Wally’s off exploring whatever’s beyond the Speed Force?
That'd work!
purplecyborgnewt said: @one-rogue-army wouldn’t it still mean he would stay mostly offscreen, I mean off-page, while Wally “experiments with new approaches in new realms”? Unless we’re getting “meanwhile, back on Earth” every now and then…
Unless he's actively helping Wally with some of his explorations (which he might), I think his participation would be fairly sparse, yeah. But considering we might see some far-out trippy stuff it's entirely possible Hartley might be able to help with that.
Also I have the perfect reaction image for this and must use it.
one-rogue-army said: @purplecyborgnewt Looks like Wally’s going to need his family as his lightning rod more than ever. So their wellbeing would matter to the story.
Very good point. I hope we won't see many Wally's-family-in-peril stories, and I think the kids + cosmic horror would be too much. I wonder how much of the family we'll even see.

so this beckons this question. how long can Clark live up to under a yellow sun? can Kryptonians die under a yellow sun?
Hi, thank you for your question! This turned out really long and rambly, sorry!
Ok so i might have said literally 100,000 (and up to 1,000,000) years old in that previous post but it's a little more complicated than that. In this arc (action #385-387) he travels forward through the time-stream but unfortunately also ages the amount of years he travelled (and he can't travel back). So, technically he is not 100,000 years old but just looks as if he were. (still pretty good looking for a fossil Clark).
That being said, you might take this as confirmation that he could grow 1 million years old, or at least pre-crisis Superman. And without death by kryptonite of course.
There are also (pre-crisis) stories where he ages quicker though. And post-crisis Superman beyond he has some wrinkles and grey temples when Bruce is already an old ass man.
putting the rest under a read more because of length
Superman Beyond #0:
Tumblr media
Then there's Kingdom Come, in which he looks like this after 1000 years:
Tumblr media
And recently we've seen in Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman that Clark becomes very old but not as old as Diana:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here, he dies fighting Darkseid in the sun. So he maybe could have lived longer... but the sun was also dying, so that will complicate things for him. I believe the Future State timeline said this was 80,000 years into the future. (I still haven't read future state: house of kent but i think he's pretty dilfy in that one too).
There's also DC one million which I haven't read yet but is very high on my to read list. To my understanding Clark becomes a golden, lighting, god or something in the 853rd century. My god that's another one. in All-star he meets himself from the future (though he doesn't realise), from the year 4500.
So you've got some different options: does he age a bit slower but still end up like an old man in about a thousand years, or barely age at all and easily make it to 100,000 years, or does he simply live as long as our sun is a yellow sun?
It doesn't really matter. The universe is so richt and Superma's story won't ever really end (at least I hope because I want more comics).
Personally, I like when Clark ages very slowly and lives long after all his loved ones have died because of the angst potential.
So yeah, fave is definitely when he ages slowly, grows old and just keeps helping people and humanity and has lived a life that he can be content with and can be proud of newer heroes that have stepped up to fill his shoes... and now i'm thinking of the ending of Invincible. Like if Superman's story ever ends it should be similar to that in terms of overall feeling, obviously not exactly the same because Lois won't age like he does. The ending of Invincible is why the phrase 'what will you have in 500 years, mark?' still makes me cry. It's just so satisfying when comics actually have an ending and like I said we won't really ever get that for Superman, but it's also why stories like whatever happened to the man of tomorrow are so popular I think. But if Clark's story ever ends I hope it's like Invincible's ending (so mostly like the Kingdom Come one I guess haha).
Anyway, what do you like in terms of Clark's aging process and ability to (not) live forever?

A/N: This is another marvel fic that’s apart of the revival universe!
---
THE CALM, DRY DESERT OF THE KURAN Province in Afghanistan seemed to be completely undisturbed. No animals roamed the vast plains or hiked to the top of the mountains. Though the peace of the empty plain was broken by a cloud of dust flying on the dirt road. Half a dozen U.S. military vehicles drove down the road. The distinct sound of ‘Back in Black’ blasted through a stereo in one of the vehicles.
In this specific car, the famous, recognizable Stark brothers were sat next to each other in the backseat. While the eldest brother, Tony Stark, held a glass of liquor in his hand and bobbed his head to the recognizable music of AC/DC, the younger Stark, Bill Stark, sat in between his brother and a soldier stiffly. The younger looked somewhat similar to his older brother. However, while Tony had facial hair, Bill’s face was cleanly shaven. If anything, Bill was nothing but a baby face. Even though the man was thirty-six-years-old, he looked more like a twenty-six-year-old. God, the number of times that Tony has made fun of his brother for that was impossible to keep track of. Though that’s beside the point. His eyes were a lighter brown and his skin was slightly paler than Tony’s which is likely due to Bill’s decision to stay indoors as much as he can. Despite the differences in appearance with the brother’s, everyone knew that the two were brothers. Who doesn’t know?
However, even though they were brothers, they happened to be quite the opposite of each other. That was evident from even the fundamental fact that Bill was currently content with the idea of sitting in the jeep without talking and just listening to the music while Tony was dying in the quietness. The constant glances from two of the soldiers also wasn’t helping to ease him.
“I feel like you're driving me to a court-martial,” Tony commented towards the three soldiers in the car with them. “This is crazy. What did I do? I feel like you're going to pull over and snuff me. What, you're not allowed to talk?” The soldiers still sat tall and seemingly unmoving, so Tony leaned forward to look at the soldier seated on his brother’s other side. “Hey, Forrest!”
The soldier, a young man spoke up, “we can talk, sir.”
“Oh, I see.” Tony shrugged and leaned in towards Bill to stage whisper, “So it's personal?” Bill rolled his eyes at his older brother’s remark in exasperation. He was far too familiar with Tony’s (annoying) antics.
“No, you intimidate them,” the soldier who was driving, a woman, called.
Tony looked up in mock shock, “good God, you're a woman,” This earned Tony a jab in the ribs from his brother. He ignored Bill and continued on, “I honestly... I couldn't have called that. I mean, I'd apologize, but isn't that what we're going for here? I thought of you as a soldier first.”
“I'm an airman.”
Tony stared at her shamelessly, “you have, actually, excellent bone structure, there. I'm kind of having a hard time not looking at you now. Is that weird?” That earned him some chuckles and laughs from the others in the car, sans Bill who only leaned back in his seat with crossed arms. “Come on, it's okay, laugh,” Tony encouraged while nudging his killjoy (Tony’s words) of a younger brother. All he was trying to do was get rid of the tension in the car.
Bill just sighed, “you are so annoying.”
“Sir,” the soldier in the front passenger seat spoke up, “I have a question to ask.”
Tony hummed, “yes, please.”
“Is it true you went 12 for 12 with last year's Maxim cover models?”
“That is an excellent question,” Tony started while taking off his sunglasses dramatically. “Yes and no. March and I had a scheduling conflict, but fortunately, the Christmas cover was twins.” The soldiers in the car all smiled in amusement, “anything else?” The Soldier next to Bill, Jimmy, raised his hand. Tony sighed loudly, “you're kidding me with the hand up, right?”
The young man asked nervously, “is it cool if I take a picture with the both of you?”
“Yes.” Tony shared a glace with Bill, “It's very cool.”
Bill nodded his head with a genuine smile, “sure.” He was used to people usually only wanting pictures with Tony as he is the more… Fun and extravagant brother. Bill was more private and reserved when it came to his life, unlike Tony. Bill was more behind the scenes, specifically behind the scenes when it came to the medical side of the company. He may be famous, but not as many people wanted to take a picture with him as they did with Tony. Besides, Bill sometimes can be dreadfully shy, especially around large crowds.
Jimmy excitedly pulled his camera out and handed it to the soldier in the front seat. The three in the back seat all posed for the picture together as the other man tried to figure out the camera.
“I don't want to see this on your MySpace page,” Tony jested. Jimmy puts up a peace sign for the photo as the Stark brother’s smile at the camera. “Please, no gang signs.” Tony commented which Jimmy obeyed instantly, “No, throw it up. I'm kidding. Yeah, peace. I love peace. 'd be out of a job with peace.”
“Come on. Hurry up.” Jimmy urged the other soldier with the camera. “Just click it. Don't change any settings.”
While the soldiers bikered about the camera and they all waited for the picture to be taken, the car shook as an explosion roared in front of them. They all cringed at the noise as gunshots soon were heard surrounding them. The Starks were starting to panic at all of the commotion, “what's going on?” Tony shouted. He looked at each of the others in the car with wild eyes. Bill had started to shake in fright at the noise and gunfire. He truly did not like guns or weapons…
“Contact left!”
“What have we got?” Tony tried to get another answer but the soldiers just ignored him and started jump into action. The woman jumps out of the driver's seat to try and combat whoever was firing at them but was shot down quite quickly.
The soldier in the passenger seat grabbed his own gun and looked back at the trio in the back seat. “Jimmy, stay with the Starks!” He hopped out of the car and positioned himself on the hood of the car to get a better shot on those attacking them.
“Stay down!” Jimmy urged the brothers and pushed Bill down to try and get better cover as Tony did the same.
“Yeah,” Tony said as Bill nodded his head
They watched as the soldier took a few shots out in the dust, but they couldn’t see if he had hit his mark. However, his marksmanship was no match for his opponents who shot him dead in an instant.
“Son of a bitch!” Jimmy got out of the car like his other two fellow soldiers.
“Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!” Tony shouted over the deafening sounds of warfare and leaned over his brother was still cowering in his seat. “Give me a gun!”
Jimmy turned to them and looked at them through the dusty window to yell, “stay here!” Once he turned back around he was gunned down as the bullets shot at him pierced the car.
Now seeing that they had no one to protect either of them, the Stark brothers knew that they had to look out for each other. Tony grabbed his younger brother by the arm and started to pull him out of the car through his door. Bill allowed himself to be dragged and hastily did his best to keep himself from falling flat on his face when Tony pulled him out of the car. The hot, desert sun beat down on the brothers as they stumbled around while looking for some kind of cover. Their scenes were dulled and their eyesight fogged up by dirt and dust. Finally, Bill dove behind a rock for cover from the rain of bullets and motioned Tony to the relatively safe area as well.
Tony and Bill sat next to each other with their heads ducked and backs pressed up against the hard rock. Tony pulled out his phone and slid it open to call for some sort of help. Just as he opened up his phone, a thud shook him to his core. Both of the men looked over to the left to see a missile had landed right next to them. The tried to scurry away from the logo of ‘Stark Industries’ that glared back at them, however, neither of them were able to get out of the way.
“Whoa!”
The missile exploded and caused both of them to fly off to opposite sides. With dulled senses and a pain in his chest, Tony looked around his surroundings when he noticed he couldn’t see Bill. He looked over to the side to see his little brother further away from him. Blood painted Bill’s left side completely and colored his clothes in the dreaded hue. The man was motionless with eyes closed and Tony was unable to tell if he was breathing or not. The sharp pain in his chest intensified and bothered him to no end. He looked down at his shirt and tore it open to see that his own chest was starting to bleed profusely. He obviously had been injured much like his brother. There was really no telling what had happened to either of them.
Just as Tony’s vision grew blurry and dark, a few figures emerged from the dust cloud and headed in his direction. Weak, disoriented and unable to do anything to stop them as he grew unconscious, Tony could only watch as the figures decked out in thick layers grabbed him. He was hauled up and started to be carried from the spot he once laid. He couldn’t do anything as his limp body was taken away and left his younger brother on the sand covered in his own blood. Finally, his eyes slid shut and Tony fell unconscious.
---
James Rhodes scoured the sand dunes that were laid out before him with squinted and alert eyes. The rolling hills of hot sand stretched for miles and miles everywhere he looked. There seemed to be nothing touched and no grain moved. His stomach churned.
He and the other soldiers riding with him in identical jeeps to those that had left only a short time before them had gotten a message saying that there was an attack. The jeeps that had been attacked had been carrying two of his closest friends, Tony and Bill Stark.
They had no idea who gave the message as she didn’t want to give her name, but that didn’t really matter. They would wonder about who the caller was once they arrived at the scene. All they knew was that many of their men had been killed by, most likely, a terrorist organization. There wasn’t too much information that they were able to obtain which meant that they didn’t know who orchestrated the attack. The U.S. military had far too many enemies in the middle east to allow them to make any sort of assumptions.
He and a group of soldiers had taken their jeeps and sped through the sandy landscape to the coordinates of the call as fast as they could. James really didn’t want to think about what may have happened to the Stark brothers. Who knows who attacked the group of military jeeps and why. All James really cared about at that moment was making sure that the billionaire brothers were safe. However, as a soldier shouted out that he had spotted the vehicles out in the distance, James’ hopes were slowly dwindling.
Each jeep was unmoving and appeared abandoned. Sand was picked up by wind and pelted against the cars that were covered in holes that no doubt came from gunshots. There were obvious signs of explosions evident from the few cars that were charred black from fire. The wind had killed the spread of fire which was a good thing. Less fire meant that there was less of a possibility of any evidence to who had done this being burned away. They needed to find out who thought it was a good idea to attack the U.S. military and fast.
The soldiers all jumped out of their rides and marched hastily toward the fiery ruins. Fallen soldiers were laid out all over the area. Their weapons at their side as bullet hole decorated their bodies. It didn’t seem like they were a match for their opponents. They were completely caught off guard it seemed by the ambush and were unable to stop the assailants from killing them.
Each soldier ran over to investigate the scene and look for any survivors of the attack. Though from the carnage that they were all able to see didn’t give anyone much hope that anyone lived through this savage attack. They trudged through the sand and debris to find that no one had survived. Each and every soldier who had been inside of the cars had been killed. It placed a terrible feeling in all of their stomachs and a bad taste in their mouths.
James just about broke down at the fact that they couldn’t find either of the Stark brothers. They were his best friends! Now all of a sudden they were missing after a terrorist attack out in the middle of the desert. He leaned against one of the trucks in mental exhaustion and defeat. God knows where the Stark brothers had been taken and if they were even alive.
Just as James’ thoughts about his friends whereabouts turned grim, a shout pulled everyone’s attention to a collection of rocks a few meters away from the deserted cars.
“Medic!”
Everyone jumped into action and raced towards the soldiers cry. The medics grabbed their gear and readied themselves to help an injured person. James ran over as quickly as he could through the sand. His hopes were slowly growing more and more as he neared the area of rocks to see who was found.
He was greeted with the sight of a man who appeared to be quite young laid on his side in the sand. Even though his suit was caked in blood and sand, James was easily able to identify the man as Bill. James jumped to the younger man’s side as the medical personnel started to pull out their supplies.
Bill’s perfectly shaven face was smeared with his own blood and painted an ashy black from soot and no doubt an explosion. James wasn’t completely sure if Bill was even okay. However, he was able to see the shallow movement of his friends chest. The younger man was alive but barely. He didn’t know what had happened to the younger Stark brother, however, he could sigh in relief for the time being that it wasn’t something that killed him like the soldiers with them.
Yet there was still the absence of the eldest Stark brother. The cocky man was nowhere in sight at all!
“Bill?” James asked the man to see if he could get some sort of response. “Bill? Can you hear me? William?”
As the medics worked on making sure that Bill’s side was properly taken care of, said man groaned out quietly in pain. His whole body burned and ached in a way that he had never experienced. The sensation emanated mostly from his side and crippled his body to the point that he couldn’t move. He found himself comparing the pain to the one time he had broken his arm after being forced to play baseball. However, it was far, far worse.
His eyesight was blurry and dotted with black spots dancing all over the place. People surrounded him and moved around him quickly. They were doctors, he thought, obviously they were there to help him with the pain. He was able to focus on one of the faces that was right next to his and choked on his dry throat as he tried to speak. "Rh-Rhod-odey?"
James sighed in relief as Bill was able to recognize him. That was a good sign. "You're gonna be alright, Bill." He watched as the doctors and medics looked over his wounds and dressed what they could before they transported him somewhere safer.
"T-Ton-ny?" The injured man spat out painfully through his scratchy esophagus. "W-where is-s T-T--" his throat started to clog up before the medics tried to calm him down as the young man started to panic. No one could answer him that question because no one knew where his brother was.
---
Elsewhere, somewhere in a cave in the desert, a disoriented Tony Stark sat on a chair with a burlap sack over his head. After gaining conscious, he listened to the fuzzy words being spoken by the people who surrounded him. He couldn't understand a word as it was spoken in a language he did not know.
His eyes were then assaulted with a blinding light as the sack over his head was roughly pulled off. Helena blinked his eyes to try and adjust them to his surroundings and found himself staring down the lens of a video camera.
A group of terrorists surrounded him threateningly as the speaker spoke to him the camera. It was obviously some sort of ransom video. As the reordering continued on, Tony was finally able to understand what sort of situation he was now in. He was kidnapped by a terrorist group after they attacked the military. Oh, God. Where was Bill. What did they do to his little brother?! Tony didn't see his brother anywhere. Then again, Tony was having a hard time seeing anything within five feet in front of him.
Bill could be there… but he may not. He racked his brain to remember the last thing he saw of Bill. The chilling image of his baby brother laid on the ground with brooding painting his side that dripped down to stain the sand around him shook Tony. His brother could be dead for all he knew.
For the time being, Tony stayed quiet as the man spoke and stared into the camera threateningly while speaking in a language he didn't know. As soon as he could, he would find out where he was, what they wanted from him, and where his brother was.

“Home isn't where you're from, it's where you find light when all grows dark.” —Pierce Brown, Golden Son
For the entirely of the drive back home, the air is filled with a hint of something different: the secret that you and Min Yoongi share. We kissed, you remind yourself. That was real. That wasn’t a dream. Since that night, you hadn’t told a soul—not even Bianca. Since that night, you and Yoongi were all slight blushes, stolen glances, and longing stares.
But as you pull onto your street, unlock your apartment, and unpack your suitcase, the sense that your vacation has ended finally sinks in. It’s back to the grind: reading literature, examining research, writing papers, and—to make an extra buck or two—stamping books at the library whenever you can. A week passes, and everything seems to go completely back to normal, including your relationship with Yoongi. Blushes and glances and stares still abound, but your friendship remains. And you find yourself grateful for that. Don’t jump into anything too fast, you continually tell yourself. Especially not with Yoongi. You can’t do anything with him you’d regret.
He’s too special.
The red and gold leaves of autumn turn brown, the West Virginia air turns crisper, and the week of Thanksgiving arrives.
“Aren’t you going home?” Yoongi asks you that Monday morning over coffee. The town of Hunsaker has been abandoned, the college students fleeing to be with their families for the holiday. It’s quiet enough for you to hear the wind whistling down Main Street.
You grip your latte in your hands, welcoming its warmth. “No,” you admit. “I never do. It’s too much of a drive for just a week-long break. I go home for Christmas, usually, though.”
“Oh. That’s good. I’m glad you’ll get to see your family then,” his eyes turn round with compassion as he takes a sip of his Americano. “But . . . don’t you miss them during Thanksgiving? It’s kind of a big holiday in America, I understand.”
“If you’re asking if I get lonely, the answer is yes,” your voice shakes a bit, but after all you experienced together in DC, you know that there is no hiding anything from him anymore. Even lies of omission aren’t an option. You simply must reveal everything you are to Min Yoongi. “Of course I get lonely,” you continue. “But that’s kind of the price you pay when you choose to go to college in the middle of nowhere. And I’m okay with it. I . . . I like being alone, a lot of the time.”
He nods in understanding. “I like being alone too, sometimes. Often, even.” Silence ensues, but you can see the gears turning in Yoongi’s head, so you remain silent until he says: “But . . . I like being with you.”
You inwardly sigh, content as can be. On the outside, you’re the definition of composure.
“I like being with you, too,” you tell him, your voice betraying you by wavering in apprehension. You’re usually not this forward with anyone; but, truth be told, no one’s usually this forward with you.
Here it is. My opportunity to ask the burning question.
“But Yoongi,” you begin, anxious but firm. “What is this? What are we?”
He doesn’t look surprised—but he doesn’t exactly answer your question, either.
“I can’t date you,” he tells you, simply, straightforwardly. You try to hide your disappointment behind your coffee cup, but it must show, because he continues: “It isn’t a problem with you—I can’t date anyone.”
You don’t know what to say, but with your eyes, you urge him to continue.
“It’s an industry standard, pretty much, he explains, “for k-pop. As an idol, I have to preserve a squeaky-clean image. I have to show my devotion to my fans. And . . . that means staying out of relationships. It’s already risky business spending this much time with you in public. It’s okay now that we’re in Hunsaker, but you saw in DC how . . . how much it can get. And I would never–”
His voice chokes in his throat a bit.
“I would never want to drag you into something that intense. I would never want to get you involved in a ‘scandal.’ I’m selfless enough to say that. But . . . I’m also selfish enough to hold on to you.” His eyes are equal parts sadness and longing as he opens himself up to you. And your heart nearly stops when he says: “I’m selfish enough to refuse to let you go.”
You try to wrap your brain around this new information, and it takes a few minutes before you have a thought coherent enough to utter aloud.
“But Yoongi, didn’t you leave that life behind when you left Korea? Being in BTS? Being an idol?”
He nods his head. “I ran away from it—that’s true. The boys and I . . . we got in a fight when I told them I needed a break. I snuck out in the middle of the night with my luggage—without telling them goodbye. And we were in the middle of releasing a new album,” he buries his face in his hands, hiding the sorrow on his face. After a moment, he takes a deep breath and looks back at you. “So, needless to say, it was a PR nightmare for our label. They told the truth—most of it, anyway—and I became the black sheep of the industry. The idiot dude who walked out on the opportunity of a lifetime.
“I’m still technically on contract, though. I’m hiding out from them here—they don’t know I’m in Hunsaker—but it won’t be long until they find me. And when they do, they could penalize me for breach of contract if . . .” his eyes explore your face for a moment, “if they discovered I had a girlfriend.”
Put simply, you’re disappointed. Dumbfounded. Perhaps even depressed. But you’re competent enough to know that displaying your feelings will only worsen Yoongi’s. So, you keep them inside, opting to reach out to rest your hand over his and soothe him the best way you know how.
“You know, we’re in the sexiest predicament a couple can be in,” you smirk.
He raises his eyebrows. “Why is it sexy?”
“It’s forbidden love, Yoongi. It’s one of humanity’s favorite tropes. Why do you think people love Romeo and Juliet, or Titanic, or West Side Story? Well . . . I guess West Side Story is based on Romeo and Juliet, but you get the jist. It’s forbidden love. Audiences eat that crap up.”
“I’d much rather be able to be with you officially,” he blinks, shy but straightforward. “We don’t have an audience we need to please.”
“We’re the audience, Yoongi. We can enjoy this. I promise.”
“How?”
“So we can’t be in a relationship,” you shrug. “That’s okay. It’s something we can’t change; it’s something we can’t control,” you pause for a second, formulating your thoughts. “But we can keep spending time together. You can keep tutoring me in guitar. I can keep helping you with your English class. We can go on drives and hikes and trips together. We can grab coffee, just like this. Surely there’s nothing in your contract that prevents you from doing any of that.”
He smiles genuinely, gums and all. “I like how much you say ‘we.’” Then he furrows his brow. “But Y/N, my life is an absolute mess. I may have to get up and leave this place soon. I don’t want to draw you closer to me only to have to say goodbye when they find me.”
“And I don’t want to have to say goodbye to you before I absolutely have to.”
He considers your words for a time before looking down at where your hands rest together on the café table and whispering: “I don’t either.”
“So . . . will we go with my plan?”
“To not date . . . but date?”
You laugh. “That’s a good way to put it.”
“Tell you what. We’ll cool it for a few days—take some time apart, even though I don’t really want to—and then on Thursday, I’ll come and hang out at your place for a bit. Just so you’re not alone on Thanksgiving.”
“That sounds great, Yoongi.”
The conversation moves on to other topics—your final projects for the semester, his issues with some of his private guitar lessons students. And when the time comes for you to part ways, he hugs you tightly. Instead of sharing a kiss, you share the knowledge that you would kiss each other—passionately—if you could.
________________________
Thursday arrives much too slowly, but at 11 AM, you turn your eyes away from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast on the TV to answer a knock on your door. Behind it stands Min Yoongi, looking adorable in a blue button-down shirt and faded jeans. He’s carrying bags of food, but he looks too huggable to resist—so you almost knock him over with your embrace.
“Y/N,” he grunts. “Y/N, I’m happy you’re glad to see me, but I really need to set down these bags.”
“Oh!” You exclaim. “Sorry. Come on in. You can set them down on the kitchen table.” He follows your directions, and you begin to peer at the bags’ contents. “What is all this?”
“I’ve decided to cook you a proper Thanksgiving dinner,” he explains, pulling an apron from one of the bags and tying it around his waist and neck. “Though I have to admit, I bought the turkey pre-cooked from the grocery store.” He rolls up his sleeves and walks over to the sink to wash his hands. All you can do is stand there, stunned.
“Do you have cutting boards and knives?” He asks. “Oh, and a cooking sheet?”
“Yeah,” you answer. Snap out of it, Y/N, you chide yourself. Amazing Yoongi who’s about to cook me an amazing meal needs me to focus. “They should all be in here,” you begin to rummage through your kitchen cabinets, pulling out what he needs.
You help him with the cooking here and there, but mostly, he insists he can handle it. It takes him hours, but by 3:00, your kitchen table is filled with every traditional Thanksgiving dish imaginable: turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, and rolls.
“And I brought a pumpkin pie for dessert,” he proudly announces as you sit down to your spread. “It’s in the fridge.”
You make yourself a plate with generous portions of everything, and take your first bite of mashed potatoes. “Mmm,” you close your eyes, savoring the buttery taste. “Yoongs, you’re the best. Thank you so much.”
“The food really must be good if it’s enough to earn me a nickname,” he notes, tasting a bit of sweet potato. “Mmm, you’re right. I usually don’t go for American food, but that’s dang good. But I won’t touch stuffing. It looks too weird.”
You laugh. “It is kind of weird.”
He asks about your Thanksgiving traditions, so you tell him. He asks about your family, so you tell him. When you ask about his, he’s somewhat hesitant to open up, but he does. He tells you a bit about growing up in Daegu. He tells you about his parents and older brother. He tells you about his becoming a rapper and the stress that decision put on his family. And you listen intently, devouring every word as you devour your Thanksgiving dinner.
And you realize, two plates of food and a hefty slice of pumpkin pie later, that it’s the best Thanksgiving you’ve ever had. No family drama; no uncomfortable political conversations; no intrusive questions from extended family members about your life. Just you and Yoongi eating good food and talking together.
This is the way it should be, you think.
Too bad it’s fleeting.

I'm Strix and this my (main) blog. The character portrayed here is an original who has lived rent-free in my head for 10+ years. Rhiannon has many verses that she has been adapted to including but not limited to: Marvel, ASOIAF/Fire & Blood, The Last of Us, and Dragon Age.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR:
Writers that are at least 18+. 21+ would be ideal. Minors will be will be blocked!
Engagement. I do expect to have some form of communication with my writing partners. We don't have to be up each other's bums 24/7/365 but I'd like to chat on occasion. We do not have to be mutuals to write/talk! This hobby requires communication.
Honesty. It's totally fine if you aren't interested in doing a plot I've brought up. I would rather you actually be engaged in whatever we're writing together. Things that are one-sided are never fun.
Respect. I work full time and I'm married. I also suffer from depression and generalized anxiety. I also have ADHD on top of that. Real life will always come first. Replies will generally take time. If it's been a while, you can give me a poke but please don't badger me.
FANTASY! I've been hyperfocused on the high fantasy genre for some time now; that's not likely to change anytime soon. Some of my favorite fantasy fandoms include: Dragon Age, The Elder Scrolls, ASOIAF, and D&D. (Shockingly enough, I'm really not into LOTR or WoW.)
SCI-FI! More superhero/superpower-forward stuff, like Marvel and DC. I do like Star Wars and whatnot but it'd have to be a plot I'm 100% into to get me motivated.
SHIPS! I'm a slut for ships, okay. I'm always down for it. If you're shy about bringing it up to me, don't be; chances are I probably ship it too.
SMUT! Duh. I'm totally down for a trip to pound town, if you know what I mean. With or without plot. I'm not easily triggered, so almost anything goes. Anything deemed "sensitive" will be labeled and tagged accordingly.
FUN. This is a hobby! We all should be having a good time here.
WHAT I'M [NOT] LOOKING FOR:
🎭 DRAMA. This is in regards to OOC drama, of course! I'm not interested in engaging in pettiness on here. That includes anon-hate! If you have issues with me or anything I do on here, I'd rather deal with it head on. It's far more productive. Also there is that awesome feature this hellsite has provided for us called the 'unfollow' button.
Pestering. I know I covered this earlier but I'm reiterating it here! I'm a slow roleplayer most days. If you want constant attention/activity, this is not the place for you.
Blog Policing. Just DON'T. It's annoying and rude. You are responsible for the content you consume. I will do my absolute best to tag any and all sensitive content on here. It's fine to inform me if I've overlooked something, though.
Quid Pro Quo. I will not do the whole "if you play X, I'll play Y" thing. If I don't have a character listed on my blogs, I'm likely not interested in writing for them.
Forcing Ships. This is self-explanatory.
Real Life Romance. I'm married and have been for a while. I'm good. LOL. I'd love to forge more friendships, though!
Follow-for-Follow. I would rather you not follow me back just because I followed you! If you follow me, I will assume you are genuinely interested in writing with me and I will expect some form of engagement from/with you within at least a week or two. If not, I will likely softblock you.

hey no problem, i've been enjoying my ride here as well as the doc strange content i got from marvel! you know having characters that sound like actual people and with interesting lore around them. like you, the ds and mk writers have been giving me just that and i just...! hhh i've missed it. didn't realize how much i did since putting xmen behind me.
with how the x-staff overly relies on exterminating mutants to keep readers coming, there hasn't been any interesting lore about them or good worldbuilding after hox/pox. that entire "mutant culture" they keep bragging was like what? resurrection? racial slurs towards humans? nationwide cult-like mentality? a mutant religion? those were the only things mutantkind has done that set itself apart from humanity... it's all we got after 4 years
i've missed actually rooting for characters in a story, i really like clea rn for example. i felt nothing towards any of the main mutants in any of the series that came out; nobody from legion of x, xmen red, immortal xmen, new mutants, ... crazy but they are all self-centred asses going around twirling their thumbs and shooting themselves in the foooooot all hours of the day everyday
Aw I'm really happy to hear you're enjoying yourself here, thank you for saying so!! Having a fandom blog like this kind of eases the insanity that is canon, and I'm glad people are able to follow along.
You're definitely not alone with any of your thoughts, but I'm honestly over the Krakoan horrors by now 😅. Last summer when I first started reading, all the shock and horror hit me then but I'm good now. It is what it is. Again, diverting to fandom blogs and having friends to talk it through makes it all worthwhile, even if it is just mocking the current state of things.
Definitely hope you can find some healing in other comics! And Marvel isn't going to get it right every single time. I know a lot of people are quitting, especially some of my own friends, but I'm a very optimistic person and I find joy in so many things. So I'm still looking forward to the Fall of X era which does start this month. And there are a couple other series outside of the X-Men I'm looking forward to too. The FF haven't failed me yet and I'm catching up with DC too.
