Children in writing: my personal pet peeves
Okay, some might know that I work as an elementary school aid, done it on and off since I was 19, so I have the credits lol. Last december I even got my trade school papers for it. I preface this this way bwcause I have worked with shitton of kids, and will in a future. My background also means that I am very quick to notice when people don't interact with kids that much.
Even the savant syndrome kid is still a kid
One thing that annoys the hell out of me is when the 8 year old smart kid character acts like a 32 year old with all the emotional cababilities it entails. Yes, some kids have an higher intelligence, emotional or otherwise, but in the core of them, they are a kid. They get temper tantrums, they are in awe of new discoveries, they love to play in their own way.
For example, the class I'm in now, we have a kid I will call James. James is raised by his grandparents and it shows in everything he does. He is an old soul, always getting striaght As and almost helping the adults in conflicts. James also giggles as I race with him during recess, he sulks like a kid after not getting what he wanted and laughs really hard at fart jokes. He is 8 even if he has an emotional intelligence of an older kid.
Children are sponges, in bad and good
Speaking of James, he is a great example of children being sponges. This 8 year old, he uses terms like "gosh darn it" or "welp, it is what it is", terms I could see his farmer grandpa using. When he is stressed, he poses like a 73 year old looking at a broken tracktor. You can see his grandpa in him clearly.
I want to say it because a lot of people only write like "I am bad because my dad was bad" characters, even though it isn't that simple moat of the time, and children being sponges could be used in so many different ways, and not just bad.
Kids knowing big words doesn't always mean they are smart
This adds into the "kids are sponges" segment. Lot of kids, especially now, pick up different words, some very difficult, but they themselves don't know what they mean. Just today I had to explain what a dictator meant to a kid talking about North Korea. (That is an other thing too I like to add: kids try to explain with their own understandkng of the world what things they don't understand are)
Children's are adults in progress
Thus is a thing that peeves me the most of all, because a lot of people think children are thing entire different entity than adults. I like to explain it in videogame logic, like as a kid you are doing the first levels and progressing trough. You still the same character at the core of it, you just leveled up and got new tricks up your sleeve. Children are humans, they aren't that difficult to comprehend.
kids with disabilities have presonalities
Omg I am such a passionate person towards this, especially because I am specialized in special ed. It annoys me in no end when a special ed kid's presonality is "ehh they are disabled?". Every single special ed kid I have been with have different personalities and likes and dislikes, if they can't show it to you themselves. I don't think I have met two disabled kids (nor adults) with same personalities, even if they have exact same disability.
In the class I am in now, James's best friend is this kid named Jackie. I don't know Jackie's diagnosis but she can't walk straight, and uses multiple walking aids when her legs hurt too bad. She can't talk very well, struggling with her speak. Still, those things weren't the first thing I'd use to describe her. I'd describe her as a dramaqueen, always ready to complain about something, i'd describe her as a sporty, always running after her friends, even if she is much slower than others. I'd describe her as kindhearted, and clingy as she is always ready for a hug. Her disability is n intergal part of her but not everything.
I could complain about this all day. I have worked with kids and adults with disabilities and they have all been do different from each other (like able bodied people). Maybe another post lol.
Okay rant over.
Tldr: Chldren are humans too. Lol

Level 10!
You may or may not know the drill:
Corrections about actually wrong items or major omissions are welcome. "Um, actually"-ing because I did not list every single spell or feat available or speculate the exact same things you did is not.
Because the cast usually does a brief video shortly before the episode for level-ups now (as they did today!), rather than announcing it at the end of an episode, this includes speculation and a bit of editorializing on my thoughts for the next few levels. This isn't necessarily meant to be accurate to what the cast will do, so don't quote me on it - it's just my thoughts on what I think might make sense or will be interesting. Those thoughts may very well change significantly as the story continues.
Anyway, level 10: it's a subclass-centric level for most of the players.
Chetney: His rogue level means he's blood hunter 9, which means Grim Psychometry, the coolest ability, which grants advantage on knowledge checks surrounding tragic or dark histories, with the potential for the DM to grant visions. Looking forward: assuming Chet keeps moving forward with blood hunter, L10 is a big one for him, as his speed increases by 5 feet, he gets another blood curse, and he gains a +3 (INT modifier) to all physical saves.
Laudna: She took a level in sorcerer, so she gets another sorcery point and another spell, this time up to 4th level; I drafted this post a while back and forgot to check the spell list for sorcerer so you're invited go nuts on your spell thoughts in the notes! Looking forward: Look. I've covered my mechanical concerns about this multiclass. Personally, had I been playing a character with this build from level 3 in a party with another sorcerer, I'd have stopped at 3 sorcerer levels and leveled exclusively in warlock. However, she's now 7 levels into sorcerer and so stopping that to go warlock will probably hamstring her mechanically, especially since the 6th level Undead feature is not terribly impressive. I think one last warlock level might be good for the ASI and the known spell, since warlocks have a more interesting spell list, and it makes narrative sense at this point now that Delilah is reawakened, but then I'd probably continue to take the rest in sorcerer. I AM very interested in how Laudna will deal with Delilah since I don't see her getting another undead patron to replace her, but that's so speculative that I'll hold off until something changes.
FCG: FCG gets a new cantrip, a new 5th level spell slot, and the ability to roll for divine intervention, which promises to be a fucking trip (complimentary). Looking forward: 6th level cleric spells, which he'll get at level 11, have a lot of bangers, but I am personally most invested in FCG's Heroes' Feast.
Fearne: with a 9th level in druid she gets access to 5th level spells, and her circle spells are Mass Cure Wounds and Flame Strike, both of which are excellent. As always for druid levels, Little Mister's HP goes up by 5. Looking forward: I'm assuming Fearne's continuing with druid levels, and if so, the level 10 feature of Cauterizing Flames allows her to use the death of a creature (enemy, ally, or bystander) to create a spectral flame that can either heal or harm others who enter that space. This is amazing and I'm excited.
Imogen: At level 10, she gains another cantrip and another metamagic option. I personally think subtle spell is the best one (and given the Vanguard's tendency to collar mages they dislike, could be huge if they come into conflict), but quickened, which Laudna has, can also be clutch. Looking forward: Chain Lightning does seem like an apt spell for her to take, but personally I'd love True Seeing as more interesting and higher utility while still thematic.
Orym: At level 10, he learns two more maneuvers, and his superiority dice become d10s. There are a ton of maneuvers and I will freely admit I don't know them all, but I do like the idea of Commander's Strike (let Ashton and Chet do more damage), Distracting Strike, or Maneuvering attack. Looking forward: Level 11 grants Orym three attacks per turn, which is really the most fun fighter feature.
Ashton: Level 10 is a path feature level, and we don't know the details of their subclass, so it's up in the air! I'm excited to see what it is. Looking forward: level 11 grants relentless rage; if he drops to 0 HP while raging (for the record Ashton has only gone out 3 times; two were during the Otohan fight and one in the Ratanish fight) he can make a con save to remain conscious.

no more distractions, only boss time
oh man that is not ominous at all nope
EGG (and the shadiest resting place of all time. I don‘t like the sounds of breathing in the background either)
Oh hey it’s a normal bench. Cool. Also apparently we are 96% complete. I‘m missing a single mask and vessel piece, are those the other 4?
SLDDKSLF the violin crescendo-ing in anticipation. Oh man, this is it huh. Okay, here we go
I t i s l o o k i n g a t m e
there‘s more tones joining the violin, all higher than the last to end in a crescendo of dreadful anticipation. Oh man that is some excellent auditory design right there
Yup. There it is.
NO HOLD UP WHY IS THAT PAL DOING THE SHAW, IT’S DOING HORNETS MOVE
Are they actually actually related am I killing her parent or sibling or smth is that why she both still looks exactly like it and is hanging out here cuz the whole place got sealed by her family
the music change in phase three is cool too, really somber. Befitting of an end, really.
…Ah. I was wondering what the weird repeating squish sound was. That…that explains it. God and the actual attacks are slower too now. That‘s just…that’s all so messed up.
(I wonder, did they tell it this would happen? Did it know, that it was only a matter of time? That it‘d always have to end this way?)
You can‘t dreamnail it either, btw - it‘s just getting blocked. I got the upgrade, so maybe it needs the full 2400 power; or perhaps those dreams have long since been sealed away?
Three phases and that was it. And finally using the focus for what it was most likely intended for, all along.
Guess my first assumption of playing as the Hollow Knight isn‘t so far off now after all, is it?
"Congratulations- Good job on accomplishing this heroic task“ it was a task for sure. But heroic? No, no i don‘t think so. Not the way things are. Not the way Hallownest is and will continue to be. Not the way the cycle is bound to go on.
Really tho this is a VERY good game, the gameplay is on point and so are the level design, sound, presentation, etc. It was very fun to come up with theories and seeing them turn true or false- and props in that regard for setting clues and allusions up in a way that lets you actually come up with said theories and guesses in the first place, without feeling like it was super convoluted or totally obvious at the same time. That‘s quite a feat too. This was the normal ending as far as I‘m aware, so there‘s definitely some extra context/lore/story to be had, and I‘m gonna get those too. So, sorry to anyone who thought the hollow knight tag was free of spamming, it‘ll most likely be a while still.
I can see why people are waiting for Silksong so badly.
As it stands, I completed this game with 96%, in 46h 17m 24s. Yep, definitely those missing shards.
HARDCODE MODE akslflslfls and they’re making you speedrun this mode too yea no I‘m never gonna 100% achievements wow oof
the background changed and its basically a beating heart I do still wonder if getting another ending might shed some light (hah) on why the syrup juice sickness corruption etc has a synced heart beat. This isn‘t the first time it had one. Hm.

The Official Comprehensive Princess Rankings
I posted yesterday about the complexity of the official Princess-ranking poll and how I felt it had a couple weaknesses in its format. As of right now... I still haven't submitted my response. I'm thinking that writing this post up will cement the rankings, and then I can send them in.
I'm considering several factors in the rankings, and I'm weighing both how much I like the Princess and how much I like the chapter she's found within. A good narrative will boost a Princess I'm indifferent to, and an emotional attachment to the Princess will cause me to rank a chapter higher than another I find equally narratively-respectable. Since the poll talks about things in terms of Princesses, my liking towards a Princess will generally outweigh my liking towards a chapter's narrative.
Specifically, the things I'm primarily considering are: —Liking of the Princess, both on an emotional level and on a more cognitive, "I enjoy teasing apart what makes her tick" or "I can appreciate the existence of this character" level. On the emotional level, like outweighs dislike—but having any feelings about a Princess, even if they're negative, is an indication that they're sticking with me somehow, so the worst a Princess can do on this level is for me to be entirely indifferent towards her. —How fun or exciting the chapter is to play out. —How much I feel the chapter's narrative to be satisfying, or to say something interesting about the narrative around it. —How much the Princess or the chapter generally made an impact on me. This one isn't quite as explicable as the others—it's just a general impression or bias that's hard to put into words.
Some chapters have been split in two. I already said my piece about the Wounded vs. Networked Wild (though I'll be explaining each ranking here as well). In addition, there are two Chapter IIIs with significant differences based on the Voice you get in them—Den and EOTN. Each of these chapters has two different "success" outcomes and a "failure" outcome—and I'll be splitting them accordingly, since I find some of their narratives to be more satisfying than others.
The Greys, on the other hand, have been merged, because I don't see a significant difference between them. Nor do I particularly between the Damsel and the Deconstructed Damsel, but I'm still splitting them up because it gives me an excuse to talk about what the latter actually is. The Razor chapters do have a significant distinction, but since my only difference in opinion between the two is because of the Voices present, I'm leaving them together.
Without further ado, the List:
The Witch At any given moment there are only two Princesses I am liable to be rotating in my mind, so obviously they're cemented for top two. Witch wins out over Razor because I find the narrative of her chapter to be more fun, interesting, and complex.
The Razor I don't have much more to say about her specifically. She's a fun character.
The Den (flight) I don't much care for fighting the Den—though I think it's likely this will change post–Pristine Cut. Fleeing her, though, leads to a moment of sympathy at the end that I particularly enjoy—as you might have been able to guess, I like her narrative on this path. Admittedly, her high position here is due in large part to emotional attachment... which is all entwined in the "flight" ending, so the "fight/fail" endings don't get the boost.
The Wounded Wild I have a marked dislike for the Networked Wild and, by extension, most of the Wild chapter—but I'll get to that when it's relevant. The Wounded Wild, on the other hand, I feel has a very satisfying narrative when you choose to cut her free—you and she were never meant to be the same, but that doesn't mean you need to continue hurting each other. She's the only Princess I can't bear to slay, even just to see what happens.
The Damsel See this post. In summary, I like how she seems to be particularly narrative-savvy, perhaps even more so than most other Princesses.
The Deconstructed Damsel She loses some points when made to stand as her own entity from being removed from what I enjoy about the Damsel in general, but I do like what she means. I see on occasion posts about how the Damsel has had her agency stripped from her, which I don't see at all—but the Deconstructed Damsel is what you get when you insist that must be the case. The Princess is a creature of perception, and if you go looking for an empty shell, an empty shell is what you will find.
The Fury Her hold on her position is tenuous due to how the narrative of her chapter fails to live up to the first impression—but boy what a first impression she makes. MEAT indeed. The narrative falls flat with its one-option, illusion-of-choice structure, but I'm content to wait and see how the Pristine Cut will improve that.
The Eye of the Needle (fight) This was one of the Chapter IIIs I reached on my first run, and boy is it a good first impression of EOTN. If I were basing this ranking solely off of how thrilling I find the chapters, she'd be in first place with a wide gulf behind her. Definitely one of the most fun chapters... though the other versions trail quite a bit behind.
The Adversary This is where things get muddled. The Adversary, and the two after her, are at a point where they're being judged more on their chapters than their Princesses. For the Adversary specifically, I'm largely neutral on her as a character, but I do enjoy just how much there is to discover in her chapter. I'm still certain I haven't found it all.
The Thorn As a Princess, again I'm largely neutral on her—but I do have to appreciate a good narrative arc, and I do have to acknowledge here that this is one of only two chapters that actually make me guilty about certain choices—though unlike in the Wounded Wild, I actually have abandoned and attempted to slay the Thorn. For the achievements, you must understand, and usually reverted via autosaves afterwards.
The Stranger I preface this by saying I have not played her version of the newly-refurbished ending, though I doubt it'd improve her standing significantly. What I like about her is her chapter, and the peek behind the curtains it affords, and the perfectly-drawn road map it provides, all without the context needed to read it.
The Spectre Her position, too, is tenuous. I carry a good impression of her, and there was a time where I'd confidently assert her as my favourite Princess, or at least top three alongside the Witch and the Thorn. But when looking at her with an analytic eye... there's nothing concrete there to grasp, and her chapter doesn't stick with me as well as many others. She is fun, though, I suppose, and I'm greatly excited for what the Pristine Cut will do for her.
The Eye of the Needle (fail) i.e. ignoring your newest Voice's suggestions and attacking her head-on in the tunnel. I just think it's fun.
The Nightmare Voice of the Paranoid carried her chapter. She also has the honor of being one of a scarce few Princesses I dislike! Right there with Tower, Wraith, MoC, and maybe Networked Wild, but she's my least favourite of the bunch! This is why she places so highly in my rankings compared to the rest of them and to all the Princesses I'm largely neutral on. In fact, I dislike her so much she actually managed to beat out my objective appreciation of the next entry on this list:
The Shifting Mound I'm largely moderate in my opinions on her. Granted, I'd rather not live forever with her as my only company, but it's not because I dislike her—we just have a very fundamental difference of opinion that I really can't look past. Objectively, I appreciate what she is and how she achieves being what she is, and I feel she was executed well. (Figuratively, I mean. I hate executing her literally.) If not for that one tiny disagreement I have with her, I might actually like her. (16–19 is a set of very close calls)
The Prisoner I don't have much to say on her or the next Princess. Getting to pull one over on someone inside your own head is pretty cool, though.
The Beast I appreciate that there's a good few things to experiment with during her chapter. The Princess herself I'm largely neutral on, though.
The Wraith Conversing with her is fun and throwing yourself into the void out of spite is deeply satisfying. Enough said.
The Apotheosis I'm not a fan of largely linear chapters where you don't have many meaningful choices... so the Pristine Cut will probably do wonders for her standing. Getting to stand against a literal god is cool, though... but is largely outweighed by the fact that it doesn't actually have any visible consequences.
The Moment of Clarity Narratively, to be sure, this poses an interesting void of information. I'm not actually sure why I'm ranking her so low, since this is the one linear chapter where I actually think its linearity adds to the effect... but I don't know. I can't see myself dragging her a single spot upwards.
The base Princess A complicated situation. Her personality doesn't really come through until the end, but I do enjoy talking with her in the final cabin, and that's enough, I suppose, to allow her a place here, hovering above the ones I genuinely don't really like.
The Networked Wild I do not like being one with the Princess, nor do I feel it a satisfying narrative to remain that way. Perhaps it's a good thing she sits here, near the bottom, though—it makes the Wounded Wild and the denial of this oneness that she represents so much more beautiful. The peek behind the curtains the Network Wild affords, though, despite paling in comparison to the Stranger's, is enough to keep her out of the gutter.
The Den (fight/fail) There's just not a lot to see here.
The Eye of the Needle (free) All I could think of when I went down this route was how I wasn't fighting her, and thus the chapter was truncated. It left a bit of a sour taste.
The Greys (Burning and Drowned) I dunno, team.
The Tower I may dislike her a bit, but even more so, there's something unsatisfying about her chapter. Something that makes it feel linear even when it isn't. Like it has fundamentally less choice than any other Chapter II. It itches.
(For the record: It wouldn't fit in the list (somehow I filled up the character limit almost perfectly), but I somewhat prefer the "harsh" version of the Princess at the end to the "soft" version. Can't articulate why; just do.)

Robot's Ocean has already gone on for about $80k wealth higher than any of the previous colonies and my save file seems precariously close to being bricked, so I've been thinking about wrapping the colony up and moving on.
As a sanguophage mechanitor with psylink level 6, every (non-mechanitor) implant she can possibly get that doesn't come with significant drawbacks, 9+ in every skill, and now a spouse, I think Yoshiko's development has kinda plateaued. Making her dramatically stronger (by, say, making all the sanguophage stuff into endogenes and then stacking a new xenotype on top of that) would take a ridiculous amount of time. Otherwise, the only real ways for her to get stronger are luciferium or by upgrading some of her bionics to archotech, and once you're at the 'every body part is bionic' stage already, those are pretty marginal upgrades. Skill-wise, all but two skills are into the range where they decay, and since she uses almost every skill on a daily basis, the levels are just going to keep fluctuating up and down as her focus shifts. Also, she's like... 35 now. It'd be weird if she ended up older than I am. So this doesn't feel like a bad spot to let her retire from active duty and enjoy the rest of her immortal life in peace.
Which leaves me debating where to take things in the future. Somehow I'm not bored of this yet, and the blog's follower count has doubled over the past week or so, so apparently somebody still wants to read this. Various options include:
The strongest contender in my head is roughly repeating the original start, but without the mechanitor part. Starting off with a lone child who doesn't have robots to fall back on. (Obviously this would be a different girl named Yoshiko.) This would probably involve making a custom scenario to give her appropriate gear and starting tech, because useless child Naked Brutality might be a bit much. Not sure if I'd go for the orphanage thing again, or try a different goal. It'd need some limitations, or else the kid can just recruit some adult help in the first month, which kinda defeats the purpose. I'd also probably have to disable the exostrider corpse in the scenario, or she could just rush becoming a mechanitor anyway.
As above, but start as a non-baseline xenotype to shake things up a bit. Incompetent 13 year old sanguophage could be an interesting way to help the kid survive while introducing its own problems to work around. Otherwise, maybe yttakin, impid, or waster? Yttakin and impid both have powers that would make combat a less dicey proposition early on. Waster could live in wastelands, which comes with its own benefits and challenges.
Or start with a new 13 year old mechanitor, but try the solo mechanitor thing, never allowing anybody else to join the colony. This would remain an interesting challenge for longer, but it also might be a little boring to talk about since there wouldn't be any character interactions.
The way opposite option would be something like using VFE - Tribals to start out with a pre-neolithic group and try to progress from 'what the fuck is ""fire""???' up to building a spaceship or something. Which would very likely be a generational kind of deal, because historically that takes a while.
Just start a new colony with Yoshiko and Cindy and keep going. The orphanage thing has been pretty fun to play tbh, and while Robot's Ocean is pretty secure now, as the Hospital Rockets Incident demonstrated, just because she's super-competent doesn't mean that bad stuff can't happen. On the other hand, starting with two competent adults, I think things would snowball a lot faster. This would probably involve using Character Editor or something to ditch the current save and start a new one, presumably with a mod or two disabled. Although unfortunately, one of the prime candidates for the mod that's breaking things is the one that allows for humanoid mechs.
Or have Yoshiko pass off the torch, giving a mechlink to one of her kids upon 13 and sending them off into the wilderness to continue the cycle??

sad birthday and annoyance
Masterlist
Y/n and her family own a fish and chips restaurant, and a customer is hosting a party at their establishment. The guests are singing and clapping along, while Y/n and her mom are busy in the kitchen. Her father, on the other hand, is the waiter, bringing snacks, food, and drinks. As her father brings over more drinks, the host thanks him and sits down to eat with his guests.
"All right, everyone, help yourselves," Y/f/n said.
"Oh, yeah, thanks," a guest replied.
"Thanks so much, sir," they said.
"Eat up, everyone," Y/f/n said, motioning to the food, and then she leaves to go to the kitchen where Y/n pulls out a fresh batch of deep-fried fish from the deep fryer and places them on a cooling rack next to her mother. Just as she places down the rack, she notices what her mom is doing.
"MOM!" Y/n exclaimed.
"Oh, Christ, you scared me," Y/m/n said.
"How many times do I have to tell you to coat the fish right if you want it crispy? You really need to press it down in the batter like this, no matter what!" she scolded her mom.
"But I am pressing it in the batter just like you showed me," her mom defended.
"If you can't do things right, might as well close up," Y/n mumbles as she goes to the counter to check on the orders made.
"Oh my Archons, why is she so demanding and grumpy?" her mother complains as she seasons the fish.
"Cut her some slack; she's here working on her birthday of all days," her father said, defending his daughter.
"Big freaking deal; I'm the one who went through 20 hours of labor for her," her mother exclaims, pressing the fish down on the batter.
Y/n looks at her mother as she exclaims her complaints to her father, sighing to herself.

At the hospital, Neuvillette and Alhaitham stand at the end of the bed as doctors check on Furina, who is lying in bed.
"Is she going to be all right, Doctor?" Alhaitham inquires.
"Yes, her blood pressure's a little higher than usual, but I wouldn't worry too much about it," the doctor said. But as Furina hears this, she sits up quickly to interject.
"What do you mean it's not serious? Last time you said my lungs, kidneys, and my small intestine were in terrible condition," winking to tell the doctor to play along.
"Huh, I don't remember-" but the doctor was cut off with a pinch by Furina.
"Come on, Doctor!" Furina said.
"Uh, of course, yeah, I do remember now," the doctor said, getting what she means now.
"Her condition is too erratic considering her age; things can change drastically," the doctor said.
"And you said I should avoid stress more than anything, right?" Furina adds on.
"That's correct. Everyone around her needs to help minimize her stress level," the doctor adds as well.
Neuvillette, who is not buying it, says, "Actually, it seems you're fine, so drop the act and get out of bed."
"What? You're really doing everything you can to kill me from stress, aren't you?" Furina said.
"That's it, you-" Furina adds and was about to act like her blood pressure rose up again when Neuvillette cuts her off.
"Now that you're here, why don't you get a physical before you leave? I'll get going," he said and leaves the room.

Y/f/n and Y/m/n were cleaning up the restaurant as the guests leave while Y/n checks the payments.
"What's the point of having a large party like that with all the discounts offered and free snacks given to all of them?" Y/n sighs as she looks at the other orders and punches them in the tablet.
"Not again, she's been so grumpy all day," her mother said to her husband.
"Hey, Y/n, aren't you gonna celebrate? I mean, with your friends? Or don't you have a boyfriend?" she called out to her.
But as Y/n was about to respond, there was a loud shout from outside.
"COME ON, I DIDN'T KEEP THINGS IN FRONT OF YOUR PUB ALL THE TIME."
Outside the shop, Y/n's younger brother, Bennet, was arguing with another shop owner across from their shop.
"SO WATCH YOUR MOUTH," the shop owner said to Bennet, who is holding his food compost bin.
"This is yours! I saw it with my own two eyes!" Bennet replies.
"You got a really big mouth, little boy!" they said.
Bennet was about to defend himself when his parents and his sister run out of the shop and try to defend him.
"Hey, hey," Y/n said, stopping them from shouting at her brother.
"Wait, what? Why, what is it?" Y/m/n asked the shop owner.
"Why is your food compost bin always in front of our place?" Bennet said.
"Relax; I put it there for a minute because a customer is gonna park here," the shop owner defends.
"I know you put it there whenever you get the chance," he said.
"Did you see me do it, huh?" the shop owner said annoyed and kicks the bin closer to them.
"No need; it's obvious. We find chicken bones all the time. We don't sell chicken; we sell fish," Y/m/n said.
"Oh, we don't sell chicken either," the shop owner said.
"Then what the hell is that, the crispy spicy chicken shop?" they read and point out the sign displayed, pushing the bin back to the owner.
"Honey, relax; we're all neighbors here. No need to fight; let's just talk," Y/f/n said, trying to calm the situation.
"That's exactly what I'm doing so we don't fight," she said back. "Come on, just take it back," Bennet said, picking up the bin and pushing it to the owner who stumbles back.
"Hey! This shirt was shipped from abroad, you little... here you go, do whatever you want!" the shop owner said, pushing the bin back to Bennet, who stumbles back. But as his parents were about to say something, Y/n intervenes and grabs the bin.
"How dare you; he's just a little kid. Why don't you-" she said and pushes the bin back to the owner hard, who falls over and falls on his butt, and they hear a loud crack of bones.
Surprised by her strength, "You were the one who started it," Y/n tries to defend herself.
Tumblr media
"Everyone come here," Y/m/n said as they sit in their living room.
"Wow, can't believe we broke the neighbor's door sign and all. I feel bad for the poor guy," Y/f/n said.
"I know; everybody has such a temper. So it wasn't enough Bennet got into a fight; you just had to get yourself involved," she said, scolding Y/n.
"Just who do you think I got my personality from, Mom?"
"Huh?"
"Exactly; why did you throw blame
on the family?" Bennet said sulky.
"What? And since when did you two start getting along so well? You think you can gang up on me and have the last word?" their mother said, hitting Bennet with a pillow and smacking Y/n on the head.
"Like mother, like daughter, Mom! How can you hit me; it's my birthday," Y/n exclaims before standing up and running to her room.
"That doesn't mean you're excused; I made you soup today. Isn't that enough?" Y/m/n said.
"Actually, you didn't cook her soup today; you forgot. Just be quiet now," Y/f/n corrects his wife.
In her room, Y/n sits at her desk and opens her notebook, only to see the tickets Wrio gave her. She sighs and hides the tickets in her drawer and goes to her bed, crying herself to sleep.

Hello! Could I please get a matchup for Baldur's Gate 3? 🥺 I'm an autistic she/they enby, I'm fine with any gender, and while I currently work at a library I'm hoping to become a professor of celtic languages and a linguist someday, so I'm learning Scottish Gaelic, Irish and Welsh. I'm super short, only 4' 10" (147 cm), with long wavy auburn hair, glasses, pale freckled skin and a boyish fashion sense. I also have some chronic illnesses like scoliosis, joint pain and asthma. I'm really polite and very friendly with everyone I meet, but I'm also very protective over my loved ones and can be sassy when I feel it's deserved. While I'm generally an anxious person, I'm not afraid to make the first move because I basically tell myself that the moment could slip away, but I will be having heart palpitations while doing that lol. My special interests include linguistics, science, magic (I practice witchcraft irl), cooking, video games, plant identification and a bunch of other stuff, though honestly I'm down to learn about whatever is available (within reason). I've been described as "homely" and "wise beyond my years" since I give good advice and am very self aware. I really enjoy taking care of people but can get flustered if the sentiment is returned.
Thank you so so much, I hope you're doing well! Take care!
I match you with...
Tumblr media
ASTARION
○ You have very complimentary skills. On one hand, you're very book smart - keep him from eating the poisonous animals and such. He's the street smart half, protecting you from nefarious faces you miss in the crowd. He reads others intentions well, you know your own; you help him trust and he helps you doscern. He helps you learn in some ways, you help him in others. You both grow well together.
○ Believe it or not, you make Astarion feel protected. Maybe not physically, exactly, but your willingness to sass and back talk when someone messes with him warms his heart. Knowing you care enough to protect his emotional self means more to him than he can express - even if he complains at you when that sass gets you in trouble.
○ Astarion loves that you always surprise him. When you first showed your firey side, when you were the one to ask him out first. He never knows what you'll do or say next in a positive way. You're exciting and full of life to him, which makes him feel more alive ironically.
○ Knowing you're generally anxious, Astarion doesn't hesitate to step up in situations where you're stressed. Much as he loves to make you squirm, he's the only one allowed to. He loves when you stand up for yourself and he encourages and emboldens you, but when things are too much he's always there.
HEADCANONS
○ I won't lie - Astarions intentions with you are not wholesome at first. Being quiet and well-mannered, maybe a little awkward even, he thinks he can manipulate you. When you first get firey, either in his behalf or at him, it lights a spark of genuine intrigue. Tell himself as he might that he's in it for his own goals, he starts genuinely falling in love with you from then on
○ Astarion pretends not to listen to you. When you infodump about languages, plants, ect. He often pretends to get distracted - usually by saying he can't help but get caught up by how beautiful you are when you speak (which he means more than his tone indicates) It can be irritating, but down the line when he reiterates facts you'd taught him, you realize he was genuinely hearing you. At least ad best he could. Honestly it takes him time, but he learns a few basic sentences in your interest languages to impress you, just based on you telling him about them.
○ You play friendly one upping games in teasing one another, but Astarion wins literally every time. You flirt with him, and when he reciprocates he does so with 10x intensity just to make you blush and stutter. He lives(?) for fluttering you. Even as you get brave enough to keep up more, and flirt further, he'll always take it to a higher level just to get those cheeks pink. (Always within your boundaries ofc)
○ Sometimes, with you being so intelligent, goal-driven, and passionate, he would get discouraged in the beginning because he genuinely didn't feel good enough. After many a long talk and a little time, he finally finds his place in supporting you - emotionally and physically. You teach him that you rely on him too, and that goes from something scary to something that gives him purpose. Cooking, cleaning -- he's more surprised than you are to find himself helping with those things after you've passed out from a day of work and research.
----
Alright my friend! Tysvm for doing this trade with me! It is my pleasure to hand over my precious man to you - please treat him well. Like please he needs it

Can I ask, why do you love WLW romance better than Het romance? What makes them better? I did not mean anything negative, and I know everyone have their own like and dislike but I want to know your thoughts....
Also what do you think that made Asian WLW (GL manga/manhwa/manhua) romances different than western WLW romances?
This is a very good question on both fronts!
Answering the first part is easy: I prefer WLW relationships because I'm a lesbian. That's sort of all there is to it? Like, on some level, I have only been reading WLW novels for the past several years (and WLW comics since Sept '23), because hetero relationships in fiction have sort of dominated culture my whole life? I can't name a movie or a book series off hand from my childhood/teen years that did not contain a straight relationship. I would genuinely have to think about it. But, when I graduated from grad school for the first time and started to connect with reading on a level I hadn't since I was a kid-early teen, I made this very conscious decision to focus really really heavily on sapphic fiction, even more so than trans fiction even though I am trans, too. I think part of this is because I just wanted to see myself represented in the works I am reading. Another part of this is I relate more to sapphic romances. For all my life, I have only ever loved women as a woman, and that makes straight romances feel somewhat foreign to me? I think maybe it's because the way relationships are talked about in queer culture versus the way relationships are talked about in straight culture; it feels very different, though I don't have an example offhand to point to. On top of that, there is also a lot of historical precedent for lesbians feeling like their sexuality and their gender identity are somewhat meshed or intersected (if you want to know more I'd have to do like actual research lol), and I think I definitely feel that. The lesbian label is really important for me, and I think that importance draws me to WLW fiction
In terms of what makes eastern and western comics/yuri/sapphic romances different, I think that you could write an entire dissertation on this (but I'll try not to lol). Now, I am by no means an expert on Japanese or Korean cultural studies, in fact I am far from that, but I think the way the romances play out really highlights the way their cultures function differently from cultures in the west. Firstly, I think that eastern cultures place a much higher focus on cultural expectations. I would not say that eastern cultures are necessarily more conservative than western cultures (I mean, just look at any news coming out of the US, we're practically a theocracy). Instead, I would say that people living in eastern cultures are more bound by their culture. For example: in the US, or a similar western culture, it is generally ok to be gay in the 2010s and 2020s. From my understanding, this is also the case in Korea and Japan, but there is more cultural push back. I think this reality is represented in sapphic romance stories from the two places well. Look at any fiction featuring a lesbian main character coming out of America: their sexuality is never treated like some weird thing (unless the story is trying to realistically represent discrimination); instead, they just are gay. And, when a character is beginning to realize she might be a lesbian, she might have to adjust her view of herself, but it's really no big deal. On the other hand, look at Japanese yuri, especially high school stories: there is almost universally a moment where one of the characters will be like "but we're both girls!" to which the other character will be like "it's fine." I think this moment is included in those stories because the mangaka are consciously pushing back on the idea that it's wrong to be gay. A really good example of this can be seen in Rei's "it's ok to be gay monologue" in I'm in Love with the Villainess. In American fiction, something like that would likely feel unnecessary (though, for the record, I think American TV shows and movies are at the point where such a monologue is necessary, but that's a different story).
Another example can be seen in the way eastern comics treat cunnilingus. This is not a universal thing, but one trend that I've noticed in the more NSFW or smutty comics I've read is that, often, when a woman is about to go down on another woman, the one getting eaten out will protest like "no, not there" or "no, I'm not clean," and I think that this too is indicative of the ways women are entangled by cultural expectations in the east. In an America comic or novel, this would not be treated with the same hesitancy. But, in eastern cultures, there seems to almost be this expectation that the women turns down getting eaten out, only to relent and accept it when their lover insists.
I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, but it's the best I got without doing real research. Also, again, I am not an expert, so take everything I just said with about a tablespoon of salt!

Another Arabian Night ~ Jafar Backstory
Tumblr media
“My story begins in Agrabah, many years ago. My father was one of the Sultan’s royal advisors. As such, my fraternal twin sister, Nasira, and I were raised in wealth and of a higher breeding and class than the filth littering Agrabah’s streets. But my father was a weak fool perfectly content to kiss the feet of that addlepated twit, the Sultan. It sickened me. My mother, on the other hand, was no one of any real importance. Her name was Fasha, and she defined herself by being a faithful wife and doting mother, never really doing anything for herself. It’s a wonder how my sister and I could have come from those two weak fools.
“As children, Nasira and I would often explore Agrabah, and one day we made quite a fateful discovery: the city of Agrabah was built atop the ruins of the Ancient City of the Witches of the Sand and artifacts of their ancient magic remained behind! The secrets down there had long since been forgotten by the common throng. Though Nasira and I were young, we knew quite well the power of sorcery and what it could give us. She and I snuck down to the catacombs beneath the city to study the mystical arts whenever we could.
Tumblr media
“Nasira was a natural, likely because she was a girl and the witches’ magic was biased towards the fairer sex. It was infuriating watching her power grow whilst my spells floundered about unable to compare. Had we a more level playing field, I’m certain I would have surpassed her easily. Surely you’ll understand that I had to put a stop to such an inequity. You see, our mother was a pious woman, devoted entirely to her dull religion, and magic was something she detested and feared. I knew if I let slip what my sister and I were up to, she’d put a stop to it at once. However, I didn’t account for her wrath turning on me as well.
“For punishment, Nasira was kept at mother’s side at all times, a fate so much worse than death by my reckoning. I, on the other hand, was sent away to boarding school far away from the "corrupting” influence of magic. After all, father wanted me to assume his position at court one day, and thus he felt I needed to be more refined and educated. I was quite upset when my fate was determined, and yet my experiences there made me the man I am today. I might never have become the most powerful man in the world had I been leashed to my parents’ side in those days.
Tumblr media
“Unfortunately, my time at school was not a pleasant one. In those formative years, my peers treated me with contempt and disdain. No one ever wanted to know me; they were intimidated by my charisma and mystique. I would often be left pondering ‘Why Me?‘ There was one boy who tormented me considerably by the name of Aman; he was the son of a prominent general to the Sultan. By the time I was thirteen years of age, I could take his abuse no longer. I released a cobra into his room at night, and when he awoke with a sudden motion, the snake struck him. He was dead within minutes. That was the first man I ever killed.
"Well, I relished being free of Aman’s torment, yet it did very little to improve my social standing. To my surprise, my peers wept for him and mourned for him. He became a martyr whose adulations were sung constantly. The momentary satisfaction of destroying him was nothing compared to the rage I endured at the realization that I granted him a position of love and respect that I would never have. It was then that I had a sudden onset of clarity: there are things so much worse than death. True vengeance, a true triumph, would only come by forcing my enemies to watch as I elevated myself at the expense of all that they held dear!
Tumblr media
”That was when I came to know her, the only woman on staff at the school, Amara. She was a historian who knew much about the legends of the Seven Deserts, and her beauty was unmatched. The other boys lusted after her like ravenous dogs, but it was only I who caught her eye. I was her prize student, and once she learned that I’d killed Aman, rather than having me imprisoned, she invited me to her home. You see, she was a sorceress as well, and she saw the potential for great power within my heart. I became her apprentice, and she taught me much.
“Amara and I studied together in secret for years, and once I was a bit older, we became lovers as well. I never had interest in women, but Amara was after something of great power. Becoming intimate with her allowed me to learn exactly what she was after: a magic lamp hidden within a Cave of Wonders! Whosoever became master of the lamp would be granted three wishes with which she could use to rule this world with me at her side. Together, she and I tracked down half of a scarab shaped amulet capable of opening the path to the Cave of Wonders.
Tumblr media
"However, I’ve never been one for second best. I wanted the lamp’s power for my own! One night, I pretended to initiate our usual intimate evening by pouring her a goblet of wine. Amara drank it but soon discovered that something was wrong. I’d put a potion in her drink that would allow me to steal her power and take it for myself! She despaired, pleading that I’d loved her, but the simple truth she’d blinded herself to was that only she loved me. Amara was a great admirer of serpents, and she kept talismans of snakes all around her. It seemed only fitting to transform her into one herself. She became a snake staff, and now I hold her at my side until the end of time!
"I returned home shortly thereafter. My mother had gone to an early grave attempting to keep Nasira under control, and my father now served the new Sultan, a babbling fool even more incompetent than the last. Now that I was back in Agrabah, he was free to retire and to allow me to assume his position in the royal court of Agrabah. I made a vow to myself not to be like my father. I would serve the Sultan, but I would never stop seeking out the other half of the scarab or trying to become the ruler of Agrabah myself.
Tumblr media
"Naturally, I was the most valuable advisor the Sultan had at his disposal. I was smarter and more worldly than the other sycophantic relics who inhabited the palace. The Sultan came to know it as well… with a little convincing from the hypnosis spell of Amara’s staff. Once I was appointed Grand Vizier, it didn’t take very long or very much effort to have the other counselors removed from office. I was the only advisor the Sultan ever needed, and thus I was able to operate with near impunity. I built myself a secret chamber in the palace for my sorcerous endeavors and worked very hard to get the guards wrapped around my little finger.
"However, while I’d accounted for my political adversaries, the Sultan’s family proved to be more of a hindrance than I care to admit. The little princess was always under foot, and her disrespectful attitude was nothing short of impertinent! Yet the Sultan’s wife proved to be the bigger problem. The Sultana saw my magical hourglass while she was sneaking about one night. She knew I was seeking the lamp to overthrow her bumbling husband. I wasn’t about to let some self-righteous woman unravel my plans, so I used my staff to mesmerize her and have her throw herself from the guard tower! Oh! But the very best part? The little princess caught a glimpse of us that night. I sent her back to bed and told her it was just a bad dream. And the next morning when she asked me where her dear mother had gone? Why I simply told her the truth: her mommy didn’t love her enough to stay alive.
Tumblr media
"Though the Sultan ruled in broad daylight, with the Sultana gone, I became the true power behind the throne. My decisive leadership brought prosperity to Agrabah and ensured that the insane fools lurking beyond our borders stayed away. Yet without Amara, it was a bit lonely at the top. I knew better than to allow myself to fall in love with any of the gentlemen I’d invited to my bedchambers. I needed a confidant who I could trust not to usurp me. I bought a fine exotic bird off a wealthy plantation owner and named him Iago. With a bit of magic, I granted him speech and intelligence beyond his station. I taught him everything I knew, and his foul little mind made him quite enjoyable company.
"Then, one day, my years of searching bore fruit. You see, Princess Jasmine came of age, and it was time for her to be wed. Suitors from all across the Seven Deserts came to call. The miserable girl rejected and humiliated them all, but one prince who came to visit carried with him a marvelous engagement present: the other half of the scarab talisman! I knew I could not allow it to slip through my fingers, so I released a common thief from the palace dungeon by the name of Gazeem and ordered him to steal the scarab talisman.
Tumblr media
"Gazeem succeeded and met me in the desert on a dark night. I brought the two halves of the talisman together and found the Cave of Wonders at long last! From there, well, you know the tale. That ragged urchin Aladdin unraveled all of my carefully laid plans of deceit and conquest, but not before I became an all powerful immortal GENIE! … Briefly. My return and my vengeance were also thwarted by Aladdin and the change of heart in my treacherous parrot! No good deed goes unpunished, clearly. Iago destroyed my lamp, killing me.
"I found myself in the Underworld after that. Fortunately, the Lord of the Dead, Hades, was my sort of fellow. We hit it off and became fast friends. Unfortunately, our attempts to have Hercules and Aladdin destroy one another failed and caused me to be lost in the River Styx. Nasira’s attempt to conjure me back was hardly more successful. Yet fate has a way of working out in the end. Hades himself was knocked into the River Styx by Hercules, and though the other souls in the river attempted to drag him down, I came to his aid. With my help, he was able to break free, and for my service, I was resurrected once again!
Tumblr media
"Now I am fully restored, and my dark purposes remain unchanged. I shall destroy Aladdin once and for all, and all those fools who he calls ‘friends’ will be made to suffer for their association! After all, this universe is going to be MINE to command… TO CONTROL!”

I’ve been seeing these and decided what the hell? Keep in mind all of these are personal opinions and subjective to change.
Also, keep in mind that while I am in the process of re-reading the manga, I cannot recall every detail off the top of my head, I could be wrong at points. These are just brain dumps, so take everything with a grain of salt.
Also, no order for these.
Adore:
Hizashi Yamada- I really love Hizashi and connect to him on quite a few levels. He’s a super loyal friend and is very intelligent. I like that he’s not all forgiving like the rest of the main cast and is the only one willing to bring up tough issues. I even like that he’s so passive, as it's unique inner conflict for male characters. (Shame we don’t get to see him overcome it, or how much it affects his life.) He’s not a pure ball of sunshine, but he’s a kind cloak of moonlight that I adore.
Aizawa Shouta- I don’t usually like broody boys, but I like quiet ones with an air of mystery and strength. I really like his protective nature as well as his dadzawa moments. He’s also a fun foil to the wild energy around him. It’s also really neat that despite having a cool quirk, Aizawa has to work to overcome his weaknesses by using a creative support item and just working hard.
Toshinori Yagi- Unlike Hizashi, All Might really is a sweet, pure, and genuine ball of sunlight. He is a giant teddy bear that I just want to hug and squeeze. And his scenes with Izuku are the best! I love what Hori did with his character. He’s strong, smart, and an all-around golden boy, but isn’t perfect and makes a lot of mistakes. However, instead of ignoring them he acknowledges his mistakes and uses them to grow and do better. I really love Hori is showing that while All Might can’t be a hero anymore, his life isn’t over and still has meaning.
Tsuyu Asui- My favorite Class 1-A girl. I like that she’s a sweet, friendly girl who is empathetic to those around her, but knows when to use her head. I like that she’s a lawful good character and is willing to call out even her friends for thinking they should break the law and place themselves in danger because of their personal feelings. That being said, she isn’t heartless, far from it. Among the cast, she seems to be the most empathetic right along with Todoroki. (She’s also the one I like the most with Dadzawa.)
Nemuri Kayama- A lot of people are turned off by her “ahem” personality but I don’t mind it. I like female characters who aren’t afraid of their sexual nature—as long as they don’t force it on others. I really like her character in Vigilantes where she’s a sweet woman who tries to help others and is a good friend to Aizawa. I do think she’s underused, however, especially since they decided to kill her off in the main story and try to play it for high drama.
Highly Like:
Izuku Midoriya- I love Izuku! He’s a sweet little angel who deserves better than he gets. The only reason he’s not higher is that he gets pushed to the background as the series goes on. Thus, we’re not allowed to see his internal conflict very often. Plus, the manga completely tossed out a core part of his character arc, which really hurt his development. Despite that, I do like Izuku a lot. I especially like his past with Bakagou. (Not in the way BakaDeku stans do.) I liked the fact he was bullied and hurt, but despite the world being against him, Izuku remained a sweet soul who did everything to protect others. Izuku’s past was a great setup for character development and an arc. Sadly, for whatever reason, we didn’t get to fully explore it.
Toru Hagakure- While I am very fond of Toru, it’s mostly the concept and potential of her character that I like more than anything she does as she’s very underused. That being said, the concept of her character is very appealing to me and I like what little we see of her. She’s a good fanfic character for me. (I want to write a story focusing on her but I have so many plot bunnies! >x<) I’m not too crazy about her ship with Ojiro though. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing bad about it and there are a lot of good things about it, but it gets zero emotions from me. Like, it’s there, but that’s it. I think it’s because even though they’re together they rarely interact. Sorry, this ship just isn't for me.
Knuckle Duster- It’s a shame he left so early as he was a very interesting character. His backstory was interesting and I like that despite not having a quirk or a license he became a hero just to save his daughter. And I like how he handled Stain.
Makoto Tsukauchi- A woman very good at managing things even in emergencies. I love how in control she usually is and how she reins Captain Sunshine in and helps him become a better hero. Plus, her relationship with her brother feels very real. They may be at odds but they still love and respect each other.
Fat Gum- He’s a funny character and I like his interactions with other characters. (Especially Tamaki and the Crab lady.) I really liked him in Vigilantes.
Queen Bee- The bee Quirk was very interesting and I love how it was utilized. It was an awesome concept for a villain and while the manga didn’t go as far as it could, the length it did go was interesting. The idea of using bees to make people lose control of their quirks was interesting. Tamao was—okay, but we don’t get to see her much as a person to judge. Queen Bee is a very scary villain.
Six- Honestly, I think Six would have been a better antagonist for Izuku (more on that—eventually). As is, Six is a cool villain with hella potential. True, he whines at times like Shiggy but he also does stuff and works for what he wants and doesn’t just demand everything. (True, he uses horrible tactics and throws massive tantrums when he fails, but still.) Plus, he just feels more natural and less forced in his actions.
Tenya Ida- I always have fun when I see him. He’s so straightforward, innocent, and hard-working. And I like that he tries to protect Izuku from Bakagou by placing himself between the two often. His serious nature is good for comedy as well. (I especially like him with Mei.) He just reminds me of a little brother who tries to help out by taking care of his family, despite being the youngest.
Ochako Uraraka- She’s cute and I like that she has a sweet connection with her family. Though I’ll admit I like her better before she tried apologizing to Tago in later chapters (I know, I know. Petty.). Like, baby; you did nothing wrong. All you told her was that if she hurt people, she had to be held accountable. And this was AFTER spending hours digging out injured people (and possibly dead bodies). I also love her costume design! I think it's adorable.
Mei Hatsume- Mei is a very fun girl and I love her energy and her passion as an inventor. There’s also something appealing about her ambition and manipulative nature. She wants to be a famed inventor and will use whatever tricks she has to and isn’t ashamed of it.
Inko Midoriya- I love that Inko isn’t a plucky anime girl, but a sweet, shy woman who is kind. And despite not being very strong emotionally or physically, she still called out All Might and U.A. as a whole for her son’s safety. I also like both her chubby and thin design. I think both are equally cute. However, her chubby design is unique as it’s cute, not played for jokes, and her assets aren’t exaggerated. She’s round like an egg and I like that. (She reminds me of a pangolin, though.)
Mirio Togata- He’s a mini-me done right. Unlike Shinsou who is basically diet Aizawa personality wise, Mirio may share traits with All Might, however, he is very much his own person. Mirio is a sweet senpai and I love how he can inspire others. And I’ll admit that his scenes with Eri are so sweet, I can actually stand seeing her when she’s with him. He is a good friend, a good hero, and a great big brother figure.
Tamaki Amajiki- Anxiety-filled, but I like his perception skills, his interactions with others, and how he still tries his best. He’s also just a sweet little elf.
Like:
Detective Tsukauchi- This is all thanks to his vigilante persona, otherwise he’d slip under the radar. He plays the everyday man very well.
Eijiro Kirishima- Eijiro is a sweet ball of sunshine and I like the idea of him turning Bakagou into decent person. (Shame he doesn’t do so, but that’s a topic for another day.) He a genuinely good guy who cares about others. What’s not to like?
Shoto Todoroki- I like his arc and his personality after Izuku helps him, but after that, he pretty much stays the same. However, I hate his hero costumes. He needs a better designer.
Momo Yoayorozu- I like that she’s an intelligent ingenue and they set up a decent arc with her, but it was barely focused on and solved too quickly. That being said she’s sweet and cute.
Neito Monoma- He’s fun and smart. I think he gets too much hatred. Usually, I hate arrogant characters but it works with him as he is always called out and his mean-spirited actions are not only not rewarded, but punished. It also helps that while he’s a bully to Class A, he’s sweet to his classmates. Plus his design is really cute.
All For One- So, he is between like and dislike. I like him because he’s the only one the manga isn’t going, “look I know he did bad things, but you have to understand; he was sad.” Plus, as a villain, he is actually kind of fun. Less so lately, but still. Anyway, I just love cunning villains with an elegant nature and a cocky attitude that makes their defeat all the sweeter. There’s also something else that draws me to him as a villain that I can’t quite identify. (I don’t like his “human” design, however. Dunno why just don’t.)
That being said, I don’t like him currently as he’s one of the reasons the manga is dragging on. Plus, I think that his plan with Shigaraki was overly complicated and kinda pointless. If he wanted to hurt All Might, he should have turned Nana into a Nomu and if he wanted a new body, the doctor could have crafted a specially made body. I dunno, I probably missing something. I know his interest in Shiggy seems to come from Shiggy’s hatred, but he cultivated that. And didn’t Shiggy forget his past before he got his muscle-up makeover? So he didn’t hate anything, he was just teenage angry. And why would AFO let Shiggy forget his past if that’s where most of his anger comes from? Okay, cards on the table I read the chapters focusing on Shiggy once, so I’m probably missing a hell of a lot.
The point being, I think AFO makes things more complicated than he needs to on himself. Still like him better than the rest of the villains.
Neural like:
Nezu- I like what we see and again, he has potential that was unexplored. (He was way too eager to crush his students though.)
Mineta Minoru- Like everyone I hate his perviness and the lack of punishment. (I feel that if you have to have an anime pervert their actions need to be extremely exaggerated and the reactions to those actions should be Tom and Jerry level violence.)
However, I like Mineta’s inner conflict and his personality can be entertaining—again, outside his pervy traits. Personally, I think he had potential to improve and that he’s over-hated.
Mt. Lady- I love her design and how unapologetic she is for fame and I like that she knows when to set her goals aside and help people.
Star and Stripes- We didn’t get to see a lot of her, but I like her concept and wouldn’t mind reading about her in a fanfic where she’s All Might’s adopted daughter and a big sister to Izuku.
Dislike:
Shinsou- Shinsou is a character that is right between irksome and dislike. His personality doesn’t appeal to me as he feels like diet Aizawa with Bakagou’s arrogance and Shoto’s monotone. Plus it REALLY annoys me that canon and fanon try to claim that he was discriminated against for having a villainous quirk, but we never see any proof of that, far from it. Everyone admires Shinsou and his quirk, the only one who gets worshiped more than him is Bakagou. He reminds me of Goob from “Meet the Robinsons.” This might be a result of his high insecurity and that he hates himself so much he can't tell how others really feel, but if that's the case it's not explored enough.
There’s also the fact that fans want to force him into everything with Aizawa and personally, I thought the relationship was okay at best. (This, of course, is petty of me and this is NOT me telling Shinsou fans they shouldn’t do this, it’s just something that annoys me personally.) For more info--search Shinsou critical on my page.
Twice- I feel bad for his past and how he dies, but other than that I do not care about him. And while I’ll probably get hate for this, Twice brought a lot of his troubles on himself. No, he didn’t deserve to be fired or to get a mark on his record, but he didn’t even try to get a job after he was fired. He just went straight to using his clones to commit criminal acts and then treated said clones like slaves till they rebelled. The latter I don’t blame him for as he had no idea each clone was sentient but I do blame him for the criminal acts he committed with his clones before that and all the acts he did with the LoV. Speaking of which, for someone who was supposed to be the heart of the villains but he has zero issues going to a camp to essentially murder children.
Irksome:
Eri- This is through no fault of her own, she just made of a bunch of tropes I hate personally, which summarized are; The overly tragic backstory, the power breaker powers, being forced into the story when there’s no need, no personality outside of being a sad woobie child / broken bird, and the Frozen effect. Again, none of this is her fault, it’s just a bunch of meta tropes I can’t stand and the only thing I like about her is that she has a cute design and her relationship with Mirio. For more information search Eri critical on my page.
Bakagou- If his writing was handled better I’d actually like Bakagou better, but as is it’s annoying how the manga treats him. He’s an arrogant brat who is never called out for being arrogant, just yells at everybody, and is stated to have the potential to be a hero when all he is is a good brawler and hurts more people than he helps. Plus, he tends to be forced into parts of the story where he’s not needed. And then there’s just the bullshit around him. I don’t care if you’re a Bakustan, you have to admit that the stuff in chapters 364-365 is insane even for a story about superheroes. (Search your feelings, you know this to be true!)
Dabi- I like his design and backstory, but other than that—we go up and down and around. I might feel better about him after I get some space, but for now, I just find him annoying.
Ugh!:
Shigaraki- A boring villain with an annoying personality. Honestly, he should have just been the first boss, then tossed aside in my opinion. Plus, like Eri, he is made up of meta tropes I really, REALLY hate. And, YMMV, his whole involvement in the story feels forced at times. The whole reason he’s the main antagonist is that he’s the grandson of All Might’s mentor which give a (space balls ref) vibe, ya know? Plus, for a guy who a world who wants to do whatever he wants there’s nothing he really seems to want. He has no goals except the ones AFO gives him and no real desires. Tago wants to do whatever she wants as well, but we know what she wants; to be accepted for who she is and drink all the blood she wants regardless of the consent issue or whether she kills someone.
To be fair, I believe that’s the point of his character but still. That all his desires are AFO who is taking him over, but they did that plot better with Six. Again, I believe Six would have been a better villain for the main manga and Shiggy should have been in Vigilantes as ironically Shiggy is a better contrast to Koichi. (More on that eventually.) As is, Shiggy and I don’t click and I find his personality annoying as hell.
Himiko Tago- Again, I feel bad that she never got the quirk therapy she needed but that doesn’t change the fact she is a self-absorbed terrorist who knew her action was wrong but did them anyway. I could forgive the first time she killed as that was a moment of passion after years of suppressing herself, and maybe even the second time, but after thirteen kills, she knew exactly what her actions were doing. Plus, it annoys me that she states that draining people of their blood and becoming them is how she shows she cares. Okay, so then why does she change back? Is there a time limit on her quirk? Plus, she talks about the people she “loves” so I guess her love was flimsy.
But what really sealed the deal was that she was staring at the consequences of her actions, seeing a city destroyed, people injured and dying, and hell, she even lost her friend, and yet her main focus was on herself. Then when she went to Ochako she wanted the poor girl to feel bad for her despite the fact
a) Ochako had spent hours trying to save people who were hurt and dying
b) Togo just her how she used Ochako’s quirk to murder someone
c)TAGO WAS PART OF THE REASON PEOPLE WERE HURT AND DYING!!
And yet despite All that, Ochako wasn’t even trying to hurt her! She called Tago out for her deeds and told her she had to accept the consequences of what she did. How fucking dare she?
Overhaul- I’ll keep it short as I don’t want to talk about him. I hated what he did to Eri and wish she rewound him out of existence. The only thing I liked about him was that he managed to knock Shiggy down a peg (before he lost his arms to him). Then when he came back, he was just pathetic. All in all, I hate him. End of story.

Leigh plays Tellius prt 15
Tumblr media
It's the final chapter! I had Ike give his speech, because I love it, even if he's clearly uncomfortable giving it. I literally muttered, "you're doing great, sweetie" at this moment.
Tumblr media
What a wild time for Ashnard to confess this. I'm surprised Bryce wasn't more upset by this, honestly, considering he was a loyal retainer to the last king for fifteen years. But I suppose it's possible that his loyalty was more for the post, rather than the man himself.
We never do learn much about the previous King of Daein. This amazing post theorizes that Ashnard was perhaps an illegitimate son of the king, which is why he was never mentioned in any talk of succession prior to the "plague" that killed off the rest of the royal family. I really like this theory, because it explains why Ashnard was so obsessed with strength over bloodlines.
Tumblr media
I put Soren up against a dragon laguz, and he completely decimated it through a combination of crits and adepts. Then I felt really terrible afterwards, considering that Soren might have indirectly been the cause of him becoming feral, since it's possible that this was one of the dragon laguz that traveled with Rajaion to rescue Almedha and infant Soren.
Tumblr media
As expected, Soren capped his magic before even reaching level 20, so I didn't have to use a spirit dust on him. Fantastic job, Soren!
Tumblr media
Ilyana reached level 20 not too long afterwards. However, she was unable to cap magic and speed on her own, so I used both a spirit dust and a speedwing for her. Hopefully this makes part 1 of Radiant Dawn just a teensy tiny bit easier.
Unfortunately, Soren and Ilyana were the only two units I was able to get to level 20. I severely overestimated how much exp was available on this map. Even more frustrating, I got Jill all the way to level 19, but then I ran out of enemies to pit her against.
I very nearly got Mist to level 20, too, through using a physics staff to heal Ike. Unfortunately, I forgot to unequip Ike's ragnell and he defeated Ashnard with aether before I could get Mist all the way to level 20.
Tumblr media
I unironically love Ashnard's dying words. There's no disappointment, no anger. He's just so happy to meet someone who proves to be a formidable opponent. I suppose he was getting bored. I suppose it makes war less thrilling when you wear invincible armor.
Tumblr media
This reveal is sooooooo gooooooooood. I love Ena and Rajaion.
Tumblr media
A closer pic of them because man they are too cute.
Tumblr media
I wish Rajaion had survived. Unfortunately, they didn't make it very clear that he died, so when I first played this game, I thought he had survived until I played the sequel.
Tumblr media
I love this image! So many cute and unique laguz designs.
Tumblr media
Ike and Elincia's friendship is so good, so pure.
Tumblr media
A moment of silence for my least used characters. Rhys, Volke, and Brom, you are great characters, but I didn't need you, I'm sorry. Sothe, I will see you in the next game.
And that's it! The end progressed too quickly for me to take too many screenshots, but I did record who my top 5 units were:
Jill came in at 5th. No surprise there. I worked really hard, trying to get her to level 20. It's a shame I never did.
Soren was 4th. I'm a little sad he didn't rank higher, but I suppose it makes sense. Once he classed up into a sage, I mainly used him as a healer, since he was such a higher level than everyone else.
Rolf was 3rd. I'm also sad I didn't get him to level 20. He would have been so buffed with those transfer bonuses. Oh, well.
Ilyana was 2nd. Again unsurprising. She lagged behind for a while, but I managed to get her to level 20 with 4 capped stats, so all the extra effort paid off.
And of course Ike was in 1st place.
And that was Path of Radiance! I'm going to take a break to work on my Big Bang fic, but I am excited to get into Radiant Dawn. I wish I had gotten more characters to level 20. So far, I have Ike, Ilyana, Soren, and Ranulf all at level 20. Ike has capped 5 stats, Ilyana and Soren 4, and Ranulf only the 1. Perhaps I should have played on hard, so there would have been more reinforcements. Additionally, I could have farmed several bosses for extra exp.
Oh, well. Overall, I did manage to achieve all 5 of my goals. No one died, Ike and Soren are at an A rank, Ike and Ranulf at a B rank, Soren and Ilyana capped speed, and Ranulf capped strength.
Next time: we meet the Dawn Brigade!

Pale 7.a
At first I thought this was going to be a Ulysse interlude, then I realized it's Kevin. Blech.
... I'd say it's interesting that the majority of interludes we've gotten have been from the points of view of antagonists, but I think that might just be a reflection of how few true allies the Kennet Trio has
Not much to say about this opening scene, just Kevin being exactly what I expected
By his gospel, the one we came to name Prometheus had peers, and it was not the one who tried to seize the original Fire, but many. All who tried, succeed or fail, were punished. I found my deity nine miles beneath the surface of the earth, thoroughly protected so none might disturb his eternal punishment. Had he succeeded, our campfires might not be wood we’ve set alight, but something else entirely.
oh that's sick as hell. I am now invested in Ulysse
Now he is my god and I am his sole worshiper, his champion.
"Sole worshiper of a god" is a great concept. (This is part of why I'm having such a good time with Pale Lights). I really like the blending of a normally-distant divine relationship with the closeness that comes from being the only one (and often the god taking a great deal of interest in and care of their worshiper's life). Also fun way to play around with faith and power dynamics, depending on how much ability the god retains and how seriously the worshiper takes the divinity aspect.
Other works that have this: Pale Lights, Thief's Covenant, The Thousand Eyes
"Later, I met your god before you did. He burned me alive both times I ventured down there.  Others had claim over me.  In another lifetime, toward the end, we became friends.”
I also want to read this story
He shared an appreciation for things of value, and if Lawrence wasn’t keeping the company of fellow weirdos from the same families as these kids at this school, he would sometimes invite Kevin.
oh that is 100% manipulation
But over the years, little moments like that had stacked up.  And now… …Now he was a bit afraid of her.
I looked back at the girls' theories about Rae, and they ended up at personification of backlash? But that was just a guess
And it looks like Kevin isn't escaping the karma his eye generates... that could amplify whatever's up with Rae, once it finally explodes
Ted?  What was going on with Ted?  Was Alexander in communication with the man?
I'm not sure either: It could just be an effect of Ted being karmically blessed, and the librarian/school in general offering him what he needs
Clem was as stupid as I’ve ever seen her.  We’re not best friends anymore
oh good, that must be a relief for her
my online following is… it’s better than ever, frankly, but it’s taking more of my time to manage until all the fights and arguments die down.
I hope she's lying about that one
in the center of that table was a recreation of Sargent Hall, complete with mini-figures representing the occupants.
return of this thing! I guess Nicolette got it out from the fire ok
Ted — Kevin — Shellie — Rae Respective to their names were cards and numbers. 3, 7, 13, 19.
The dossier noted that Ted and Clem are around the same level of use, so it makes sense that he's number three. I wonder who is 1? Kevin being rated higher than Shellie seems like a reflection on how useful his eye is at dealing with mundane problems subtly (and how hard she is to control). Not sure what the ranking implies about Rae.
Noose in one corner, connecting to Ted, coin in the other, connecting to Shellie.
once again, same types of object as the awakening ritual. Coin is mostly fortune I think, woven object I'm less sure. Pact awakening ritual had it as dream and fate.
But he could read the notation.  ‘Noone will die at his girlfriend’s hand’.
get fucked!
“Nah, stark resemblance to an old crush,” he said. “Writing on the back says… Laila Throop. Was your old crush a Throop?”
no idea what's up with this, but it has to be important. Laila's been coming up a lot lately (Musette, and Fernanda's interlude). Her family specializes in curses: I could see them coming into contact with Kevin through that.
The works themselves are a trove of detail on people, especially those in the Maritime provinces and the major cities of Canada and the northeastern United States.
oh cool. So Alexander has compiled Ted's notes from other timelines. I wonder how long he's had them? Because this could explain a lot, if he's been able to draw on this knowledge for his plans all along. It would explain how he made those dossiers, for one.
... I wonder if there's anything on Kennet or the Carmine Beast in there. I don't think there'd be anything on the girls, since Ted's loop ended before they got involved, but things have been going on in the town for a while.
Courtesy of Raymond, the prompt is yet unfinished, but each pull from the coda of texts will help it improve.  For the time being it will do its best to list texts that may be relevant.
score one for the digital humanities
Alexander, I think, wanted us to find it because there may be traps here, not in the sense that a blade may jump out of nowhere, I don’t think, but the wrong information in the wrong person’s mind.
I can see Kevin setting off events by trying to preemptively defend himself from Rae, or this pushing him into demanding answers.
This was an arrangement of a court of judges in this region, who saw the danger and reached out to everyone in the area to ensure they had the power to set this into motion.
oh! My first thought was the council the CB was on, but I looked at the dossiers again, and Ted's from Prince Edward Island, which is pretty far away, so probably not
I am a collector of people.  If you’ll take my help, I’ll point you to certain people.  But the moment you’re free, if it has anything to do with my help, I want your assistance after.
well fuck. I guess that explains why Ted works for Bristow now.
one student named Laila Throop was on the opposing side and had a really strong resemblance to someone from his past that he hated. “Her next.” He tapped her photograph
man Laila can just not catch a break... I wonder if this is what Musette saw?

NEUVILETTE IS SOON TO BE HERE HELL YEEEEEEAAAH!!!!!
i wanna pull for him. im gonna pull for him
it's like. i like him a lot, I like his design, I like his whole thing AND his hydro and a catalyst which suits me very well
i only have Barbara for a hydro and while with certain artifacts she makes pyroenemies (like, yknow, the bosses, for ascension materials) easy peasy she's just. she's not it (also like. it's soooo hard for me to ascend her cause I need to kill the water thing for it and you need archers for that AND I AIN'T DOING ARCHERS NO WAY)
i might actually build fischl but like. only after i build my main and sub-team. so very not right now
I hope neuvilette will be good. i don't actually play catalysts that much but I hope he'll be good. i even know what I kind of team I want to put him in, if his talents allow it. my hopes is that he will be similar to ningguang because I like her playstyle. or barbara, cause she's not bad either, just difficult to ascend and also a healer which is not what I want (I wanna put neuvie with yaoyao if it works. him, yaoyao and kuki and like. idk maybe xiangling. she kind of got replaced by thoma because i found his skills worked better for me with beidou. and also I love him and I am not above salivating at pixels)
on that note: you've mentioned you've built thoma and same!!!! im in the process. what kind of artifacts do you have on him? I wanna lean into his defense/shielder thing but all the guides are so confusing
also, yknow what's been in my mind: does anyone main Lisa? like someone must. but I've never seen that
ALSO ALSO: razor and lisa both say "blitz" when using their elemental skills. it's cute (though Lisa's flirty while razors is a scream)
this reads a little like an oldtimey letter lol. I feel compelled to sign off like
"With my best regards,
❤💛"
or smth
NEUVILLETTE IS ALMOST HERE!!!! i'm so excited, will be my third debut character with lyney and kaveh. i really hope i'll get him early since i've only got 19k rn, and i have such a long list of characters i wanna pull for lmao there's yae miko, cyno (for 4ggravate completion, tighnari will come home at some point i believe!!), venti would be nice for crowd control
i've not built my barbara but doing the last banner, i got her c6 so i'm kind of hoping neuvillette will work well with her so i have an excuse to build her. the only downside is that i'd have to fight a lot of oceanids and omg that boss kicked my ass when o had higher level than it, it's kicking my ass even harder now that it's 10 levels above me. even with lyney who is so cracked, i died like three times las time i attempted it, so i feel your pain!!!! FUCK OCEANIDS!!!!
you did remind me of xiangling, i always mean to build her but then i get sucked into trying to get the perfect artifacts for my main team and well. i'm not spending money on genshin, but damn do i feel scammed in domains. so many hp and defense pieces when i'm just farming for my dps
i don't play a lot of catalyst characters actually, wanderer is the only one i Really use and i think that's because he's flying so while he is vulnerable (like all catalyst characters are), he is still a bit harder to reach than normal catalyst characters. but for neuvie, with his design and his va and his personality, i will make a difference and learn how to play catalysts well. i did it for lyney and bow characters, i will do it for neuvie as well.
and for thoma!!! my best boy. i don't have a set as such for him, i read somewhere his shield scales off of hp, so i've just slapped A LOT of hp and hp% pieces on him. if that site lied to me, well shit. i will have to go look for which specific set is good for him, but i've been leveling artifacts so much recently i have like ten four stars left. and his talents are like 2-7-6 i think.
i dont know, i'm suere there's a reddit group for them but i've been thinking of leveling her and building her, so maybe she can be in an alhaitham team with a lot of er and a very leveled burst talent.
also that's cute:') i love when characters have matching lines

I am Become Barbie, Destroyer of Worlds
“Barbie: The Movie” comes out this month, and it’s looking like it’ll be a smash success, in addition to a really good movie! As you know if you’ve been following this blog, I’m pumped for this movie and have been counting down the days until it comes out. I’ve also been doing a series of reviews of current “Barbie” toys, which we’ll be wrapping up this week with an absolutely wonderful gift from my absolutely wonderful wife, “Barbie: The Movie Barbie!” Let’s see how the star of the show came out and if she’s a worthwhile edition to your Barbie collection.
Tumblr media
Now, before we get started, I just wanna say one thing: last week when we looked at Ken, I said that because I had zero success finding the “Barbie: The Movie” dolls anywhere except online stores, it looked like the movie line was an online only exclusive. So of course, the very next day, I went to my local Target and found the movie dolls. The universe delights in kicking me sometimes.
The “Barbie: The Movie” toyline is the toyline released for the movie and is now available at mass retail. If you missed last week’s review, here’s a quick recap: the toyline is, obviously, centered around the upcoming movie, with dolls based off the cast, as well as vehicles and playsets. The dolls have a higher level of articulation, more accessories, and a bigger price tag than the standard dolls.
From what we’ve seen in the trailers, Barbie the character, played by beloved actress Margot Robbie, seems like an optimistic, friendly, cheerful go-getter with a wide circle of friends and a heart of gold. So basically my exact opposite in every way. When things begin changing in her world, Barbie sets off on a journey to the real world, accompanied by Ryan Gosling’s Ken, to get to the bottom of things. Other than that basic synopsis, I can’t say anything else about the character. The movie isn’t out yet. This is all I got.
This doll looks great. She has a very classic look to her, right down to the arched feet and the hairstyle, and is pretty much exactly what you’d want in this doll. She does a great job conveying Margot Robbie’s likeness without going into the Uncanny Valley, which is nice because you don’t want Barbie to scare children usually. Save that for the doll scene in “Small Soldiers.”
I absolutely adore Barbie’s outfit. She comes wearing a pink and white plaid dress, pink heels and a matching hair bow, and flower earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet, which all comes together to make a bright, cherry doll whose accessories scream “let’s enjoy a beautiful day.” It’s a really great outfit and I feel it does a terrific job conveying who this character is. Interestingly, this doll also comes with actual underpants, which is noteworthy because most Barbies and Kens just have sculpted underpants. I feel like it’s a nice touch and a good way to confirm that no, Barbie is not going commando.
Tumblr media
Life in plastic, it’s fantastic!
In terms of articulation, Barbie has it going on! She’s covered in joints, which means she’s here to strike a pose atop the crushed bodies of rival dolls who thought they could stand against her. I’m really happy with all the joints she has, and I feel like kids will also like them.
Tumblr media
Barbie, seen here after ruthlessly slaughtering Jem and the Holograms.
Now, of course, I do have a few complaints. After all, nothing in life is perfect except for those special moments with the people we care for, when we’re truly connected and at ease, and even those moments are far too fleeting in the cruel passage of time. My first issue is the issue I usually have with Barbies: she can’t stand on her own. I know that’s always been a thing, but it still bugs me a little. Since this is a doll aimed at collectors, you might wanna make sure you buy a doll stand when you get her. My second complaint is with her heels. They’re pretty loose on her feet, which makes them really easy to lose. Considering how part of the point of Barbie is changing her outfits, the fact that doing so means you’re a ton more likely to lose a shoe really feels like a problem to me. Other than those two things, though, this doll’s really great.
Tumblr media
She took the other shoe off so she could kick the Bratz’ asses without damaging her heels.
“Barbie: The Movie Barbie” is currently available at mass retail for about $25. While she’s specifically aimed at collectors, her box says she’s for ages 3+, which, considering how she has the small earrings, bracelet, and easy to lose shoes, feels a little young. Make sure the person you give her to isn’t still in the “let’s put this up my nose” stage, so you can avoid any uncertainties. And now, our moment of truth: would I recommend this toy? You bet your ass I would! This is a great Barbie! She looks great, she has a lot of articulation, her outfit’s cute as hell, and her accessories are on point! I would absolutely recommend this Barbie for your collection! “Barbie: The Movie” comes out this month, and I can’t wait to see it, but for now, this concludes our look at Barbie. Next time, we’ll be looking at a few different toys with no unifying theme before our next series of theme reviews, so that’ll be fun. Until then, this is JS signing off and wishing you Happy Toy Hunting!

I like how watching MASH with my mum prompts a dozen comments on breaking the hippocratic oath and medical malpractice, I would be curious where she lands on preventative medicine
I think this unintentional on the part of the episode, but I wonder how it feels for specifically a doctor to imagine doing that
to take s2 flagg-ep into play, imagining specifically the type of doctor that hawkeye is, who seems to have very quickly cottoned onto it being easy to have the high-ground if you’re not literally in a warzone and so doing what needs to be done for his corner of the world, vs bj who likes to hold onto the trappings of normalcy past when it makes any good sense
leaving aside anything that the episode/writers wanted to convey, and just poking at the characters, preventative episode is near the end of s7 and so around the time when the “it’s not really about the army being bad, it’s about war-as-concept being bad” stuff took over, and the tone continued to shift into bleaker -- starting s8, but I am curious to see on this watch whether I might not feel like s7 (with peace on us, which also includes army-based antics) starts it, but just creates a last Hurrah of attempts to be ok that on my first watch translated as practically a hopeful atmosphere (lol)
*
it gives enough fuel for me to go, alright, preventative medicine is when hawkeye realises he’s alone in this, and that bj -- despite some earnest attempts here and there -- simply won’t fight on the level that he needs to fight the army + he’s been gradually going up against a higher authority than the army, Death itself (whether or not one wishes to read this as a symptom of mental health issues, I do find resonance in a bipolar hawkeye + a hawkeye who was managing himself and then he up and got sent to a warzone, which is no good for anyone)
(and would Trapper and/or Henry have pulled him aside and gone “buddy, you are not beating Death, death is normal, death is ok, the army sucks, focus on the things you can change, do you wanna take out another appendix? ok, let’s do go that”)
and so essentially this episode as the first in which he really gives up. comparably I don’t think he gives up way back in dr pierce, he “just” has a breakdown -- technically he fights all the way until they sedate him (and not because they’re technically against what he’s doing, but because he Really Needs To Sleep and admirable as shipping toilets is, it’s not what hawkeye himself would think was the best solution were he not several days into insomnia)
and every once in awhile he’ll fight once more (depressing news my beloved), but it’s mostly downhill from there/the goalpost has moved to coping as best as possible -- idk how much it was intended or not, but I feel like “say no more” being so near the end, gives a good and very upsetting blow to hawkeye’s fractured needs, once more zeroing in on who it is that’s causing all the violence. not A War, but an army general, and how he’s let that focus slide in favour of getting through the damn day and pretend-believing (as I hc it) that it’s not a system made up of people that causes all this destruction
which reframes the ending of preventative medicine as guilt not because it was futile and bad technically for him to do what he did (it wasn’t, fuck you intended framing), but because hawkeye feels a lot of guilt for all the things he can’t do -- he talks a good game about his little corner in that one episode, but like... he literally thinks he’s going up against Death at times, he’s not being entirely rational about this
*
and on bj’s side we’ve got that relentless “I’m looking towards home” narrow focus, in which one can go, ok, well a doctor back home shouldn’t take out someone’s appendix unnecessarily, or indeed, half the shit hawkeye and trapper got up to back in seasons 1-3, which one might with this read assume bj would have not been happy about?” (idk where twice convincing someone they’re very sick lands on the medical malpractice scale, I’ll have to ask my mum)
bj wants to go home unchanged, despite all the mounting impossible-to-ignore-but-he-does-try-putting-on-blinkers-and-going-lalala evidence that that is literally not gonna happen. so it’s less about hawkeye hurting himself, less about ideals, and more about keeping his hands clean and having the high-ground for the sake of his needs
I enjoy reading bj with all his possible flaws, I think one can say that he both wishes to help hawkeye and is selfishly focused on his own life (after all he has a wife and kid at home, the american dream to return to, unlike some others...) and those clash more and more as the show goes on (I also like resentful bj personally, bj who feels indebted to hawkeye and wants desperately to be there for hawkeye with all his ideals, and dislikes that this is at odds with what he should be doing, which is keeping himself in one mental and physical piece)
he could have done more to stop hawkeye if he really believed that this was wrong and/or it would be wrong for hawkeye. or he could have acceded that hawkeye was making points, but he personally simply couldn’t do it. what he does is stick firmly to the middle path of token resistance and a refusal to carry the burden with hawkeye, and then a somewhat useless holier-than-thou platitude about symptoms and disease that just makes hawkeye feel worse, but then also a hand on his shoulder that hawkeye briefly clings to
best he can do

anyway, I wonder as I continue to watch whether my mum will stick firmly to the ideals she has in a reality in which she hasn’t worked in a warzone, which will put her firmly on bj’s side, or if she’ll poke at things and imagine herself in such a situation (not that I’m trying to torture her, I’m just curious)
there’s something very interesting about doctors vs not-doctors in terms of putting themselves aside from other people in order to do their jobs sometimes, and it’s not necessarily a good thing (it’s a reason I’m scared of doctors outside of my mum and her friends, but those experiences have been firmly not like that, because we all know each other) but it does have a point to it, and the hippocratic oath is one of those things that help you set yourself apart/to a higher ideal, for better or for worse
and hawkeye has a very interestingly loose relationship with it from the get-go, and I think that that’s a much more interesting lens through which to watch preventative medicine than “is he right or is he wrong” -- instead it’s a character drama between his needs and bj’s needs
and on that note my other episode that I’m most curious about my mum’s reaction to is “heal thyself”
humanising doctors, the horror!

The Inquisition might have looked out of place at the Winter Palace, but Acacia felt right at home.
The setting was far grander, to be sure, and the stakes much higher, but she’d played this game on a foundational level many times before. Affairs like this in the Marches were simpler in scale, dress, and duplicity; much like the Inquisition was here on business, however, they were also a cover for dealings of all flavor. The Guild often secured invitations to such events, usually to allay their patrons’ fears of association or third parties.
Acacia knew the ins and outs of such galas quite well going in and the keen eyes of the Guild’s leadership picked up on that skill set early on. It wasn’t long into her employment before she was attending soirées across the city-states, sipping and dipping and spinning every opportunity to the Guild’s advantage. The training of her youth turned out to be an asset in that, if nothing else.
The trappings the Ambassador and Madame de Fer had spun together, though, certainly outshined anything she’d worn previous. Layers of translucent silvery material cascaded over her hips, the varying lengths tickling her legs down to her ankles. Her left arm was bare but her right was covered in a fine sleeve of crimson metallic scales; they continued across her chest, dipping to follow the deep neckline and fading away into the bodice that hugged her curves and stomach.
Her back was likewise bare to the court and the section of dark curls left loose spilled over her shoulder blades like a curtain before a show. The rest of her hair was twisted atop her head in a shape reminiscent of a rose, encased by a delicate circlet that appeared bronze until the torchlight hit it just so and it became a blaze of fire against her curls.
They’d left her purposefully unannounced and theoretically unassociated with the Inquisition—though her allegiance couldn’t truly be unknown by any player of the Game, what with the signature red slashing across her torso. Her mystery had drawn the attention they’d intended and she’d been drawn onto the dance floor more than a handful of times, had let nobles from all across Orlais and with the Empress’ own circle bend her ear. Now she deftly avoided suitors and pursuers alike, carrying the spoils of her exploits to the spymaster.
“You’ve attracted quite the following,” Leliana commented, but her eyes weren’t on the gaggle of Orlesians in her agent’s wake. “And it seems you’re not the only one.”
Acacia let her gaze trail after the spymaster’s, lazily, so as to not draw any unnecessary attention—an exercise in futility, it seemed, since the sight she landed on was nothing but unnecessary attention.
Cullen was the only member of the party who’d been left in the horrid uniforms Josephine originally wanted everyone to wear—“a show of unity, Inquisitor”—though they’d traded the bright, obnoxious red for a dark gray and instead threaded the Inquisition’s colors through the various buttons and accents. He wore a half cape lined with fur—soft, she knew, from having traced it with her fingertips many times—and he was clinging to it like a security blanket amidst the throng of admirers that had him backed against the wall.
He certainly wouldn’t be gathering any important observations as things stood, not unless the Empress or Duke were the type to keep their state secrets in a woman’s bosom. Worse, he looked near terrified, uncomfortable at the least; even from this distance she could see the panicked flush high in his cheeks and the tremble of his lips that meant he was stammering his answers.
“Maker’s tits,” Acacia muttered. She pushed her shoulders back to the tune of Leliana’s musical laugh, setting her jaw and glaring with a force that would have set those loathsome poachers aflame were she a mage.
“Do try to control the blast radius, no?” murmured Leliana. But Acacia was already moving.
Her heels clicked against the marble floor; they echoed like gunshots with the force of her steps, announcing her approach to the lesser nobles who thought a Ferelden with a pretty face to be easy pickings.
Relief shone plain on Cullen’s face when he caught sight of her and she bit her tongue to distract from the surge of emotion it drew in her gut. She stalked past the parasites in their ridiculous layers and plastic faces and they parted for her as though forcibly repelled. By the time she reached Cullen, only one of his “admirers” remained: a foolish man with the audacity to cup the Commander’s ass through his trousers.
Before Cullen even flinched at the contact, Acacia whipped one of her pocket dagger’s from its wrist sheath and flung it in a terribly accurate arc, so it caught both the man’s mask and the tip of his ear and pinned both to the wall.
Barefaced and bleeding, he fled.
The rest of the varmints remained, albeit at a distance, and it was at least in part for them that Acacia continued with her show. She closed the rest of the distance to her lover and reached for one of his hands. The formal gloves he wore were thinner than his usual leather pair and, judging by the catch of his breath, he could feel the head of her skin through them as she twined their fingers together.
Mindful of their audience, Acacia lifted their hands to her lips. She held Cullen’s gaze all the while, watching it darken as her dark lip stain pressed against their joined fingers.
Titters and whispers passed through the circle she’d pushed back with her approach, just as she’d intended. They were muted, though, compared to the buzzing in her veins that always came with proximity to Cullen.
She held his hand against her lips longer than was strictly necessary, partially to cement the message in the mind of the surrounding throng, partially because she enjoyed the rush of knowing that her touch held him captive; in that moment, Corypheus himself could crash through the palace roof and the Commander’s eyes wouldn’t stray from her face.
Eventually she drew back and the spell dissipated, though some of the heady effects remained as she lowered their hands and let him draw her close enough to share a breath.
“You look far too tempting in this ensemble to be such an angel,” he murmured against her ear. A sinful smirk curled the corner of her mouth.
“An angel, hm?” Her fingertips traced each of the buttons on his jacket. “I think I’d have to have far purer motives to fit that bill, darling.”
Cullen chuckled and the would-be suitors around them leaned in—only to flinch back when Acacia glared from beneath her lashes. Regrettably, the pendant around her neck chose that moment to buzz against her clavicle, summoning her to her brother’s aid.
She slipped her fingers from within Cullen’s and trailed them up his arm, over the shell of his half-cape, and up to cup the rough edge of his jaw. A sigh escaped him, but he gave the slightest nod—the moment’s respite was over, it seemed.
“I’ll find you later.” She laced the kiss she couldn’t give him into the dark promise and then she was gone, following the enchantment to tangle with her brother’s latest predicament.
