Tombstone from the Jewish cemetery in Yeghegis, southeastern Armenia, 13th century
In the gorges of the Yeghegis Mountains there is a unique medieval Jewish cemetery filled with funerary poetry and expressions from the Bible and Talmud. Although there are many historical records of Jews in Armenia in ancient times, to date – except for a reference in an obscure Russian academic journal in 1912 – there is no information about the community during the Middle Ages. The names found on the tombstones were popular among Persian Jews, indicating that the Jewish population of Yeghegis may have had an Iranian background. However, the exact history of the emergence of this Jewish community and the circumstances of its disappearance after only 80 years, remains a mystery.

The beginning of 17776 really is so interesting in the way that it sets up the rest of the story. The calendar backdrop was such a stroke of genius, because it forces the reader to focus on nothing but the passage of time and nine's increasing desperation and loneliness. and then when ten responds with 'i love you so much'--well, i still had no idea who these characters were, but i was already invested enough in them to feel anxious scrolling through the days where they weren't able to make contact with each other. and then, when ten tells nine not to contact them for 27 years, my first thought was, 'but that's a life! that's a life apart for two people who clearly care about each other'
and then the scroll through the days, once again forced to focus on nothing but the passage of time, leading straight into the reveal that these people aren't actual people with a lifespan of a century or less, and THEN the reveal that even humans aren't people with a lifespan of a century or less anymore, and the way that the reader has been interacting with the passage of time is so FUNDAMENTALLY different to how it works for the current denizens of the earth
just, what a great way to really bring out the focus of the story right from the beginning: how would we change, if the constraints and anxieties of finite time were lifted from us as a species?

I wonder why Chris Rodriguez joined Luke in the first place. Was he jaded against the gods like Luke was? Was he following his older brother's example? And then I wonder how he coped after the Labyrinth. How did it feel to know he was basically sent on a desperate suicide mission with almost no chance of success? How did it feel to know that the camp he turned his back on, the children of the gods he had renounced, one of the very gods he had been working to destroy, ended up saving him? What was going through his mind when he came back from his madness at Camp Half-Blood thanks to one of the very gods Luke and Kronos insisted didn't care about him? Is that why he chose to stay? Did he realize Luke was wrong about Camp Half-Blood and about at least some of the gods when they welcomed him back with open arms? Did he see Dionysus save him and realize that the gods are capable of caring when it matters? Did he realize that there was a chance for the gods to be better? Did he realize there was another way to get what they wanted without war and death and deals with monsters and Titans? Is that why Chris Rodriguez chose to stay at Camp Half-Blood rather than return to the Titan army?

Here are some of the scrapped logo designs for the team.
I can go into the story a little deeper if anyone wants, but the gist of it is that they were originally going to name the team Rocky Mountain Extreme, but when the public found out, there was such an outpouring of hate, that the owners did a hard 180 and instead did a poll of possible names.
In the fan poll, which included names such as Avalanche, Black Bears, Cougars, Outlaws, Rapids, Renegades, Storm, and Wranglers, the name Cougars ended up winning.
But the owners had the last say, and Avalanche ended being the golden name. It was a very unique name at the time since it was in reference to the dangerous snow slides that can happen in the mountainous area of Colorado.
And that’s how the Colorado Avalanche as we know them came to be.
Though it’s quite a shame that the Quebec Nordiques got sold since they were about to have a kind of sick rebrand.

read the story of the tracksuit LH wore in brazil.
ngl the best part of this is "we lost hamilton" bc he simply stops responding 😭
(there's an agreement between him and the team about not disturbing him during dinner and meetings with engineers)

I love so much that the author is ultimately killed by bad writing.
Tumblr media
"There's none."
Tumblr media
"That was just a supposition from the beginning. A set-up to make the protagonist strong..."
Tumblr media
"A traumatic scar from his youth. I also do not know who the culprit is." "Are you seriously feeding that line to me?" "The hero is made when the crime isn't solved, you see? If you catch the culprit, the story ends there. IF one is happy, who'd offer to suffer through all that hardship? That is why there is not a single clue, since there wasn't one to begin with."
Tumblr media
This is bad writing. If he was a good writer, there would have been clues and foreshadowing and whatnot, but there isn't, because he just wanted the tragedy and to have Kang Cheol just go on forever. So he created a faceless, illogical culprit and that is what ends up being his ruin.
Oh Seong-moo ends up being killed by his own lazy setup.

I subconsciously hold emotionally invested friendships to a higher regard, I expect people to do the same however, they can’t because not everybody holds the capacity for that kind of friendship and unfortunately….this is why I feel disconnected with other people.

Thanks so much for all your meta posts! I’m a little late to the succession party so apologies if you’ve already answered this but having just finished the show, I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you understand the, for lack of better term, uniquely unsettling nature of the relationship between Kendall and Logan.
To preface, all four kids have unique and interesting relationships with and to Logan and I’m in no way trying to minimize any of the characters trauma. Just, there’s just something about Kendall being told at seven years old that he would inherit it all while at an innocuous small-town ice cream parlor that is upsetting? Almost sinister? I can’t help but think of the season 1 finale and the hug, the closeness that is somehow a combination of comfort, relief, foreboding, control, and possessiveness all wrapped into one gesture. I can’t put my finger on it but there’s just a disquieting undercurrent to some of Logan and Kendall’s interactions.
I’ve been trying to define why I feel that way watching so many of their scenes and I’m having a hard time pinpointing it. Do you have any thoughts? I’ve seen some fans make comparisons to emotion incest or enmeshment (which I think would apply to all the kids to greater or lesser extents) and predatory childhood grooming (which I think has some similarities considering Kendall was “groomed” to take over Waystar but I don’t think a more literal interpretation is really supported by the text) but none of it feels like a perfect fit. Would be super interested to get your take.
You’re very welcome, anon, and I’m so sorry it’s taken so long for me to reply to this! It’s been! A big few weeks in an already very big year, haha (my sister has been in family court for the last nine months, and I'm her +1 / support person, and let me tell you, I now know a lot about the legal system I wish I'd never had to). Your question’s a really interesting one though, and one I’ve thought about a lot, because I agree – I think there is something uniquely unsettling in Kendall and Logan’s relationship, and it is something that’s hard to pinpoint.
After all, like you said, all the kids have unique relationships with Logan, but in many ways, there’s more crossover between their abuse than there isn’t. There’s physical violence, emotional incest and family enmeshment at the core of the Roy family dynamic, and Logan’s capacity to weaponise familial bonds in order to keep them all close to him and fighting with each other is pretty much one of the tenets of the show. Logan might’ve thought of himself as a sun they orbited around, but the reality is he’d never give them that much rope – they were always doomed to be burning their feet on the surface of him.
I also agree with you that grooming’s not necessarily the right term for what’s happening in the family dynamic, because I don’t actually think Logan’s a groomer? I get why people think he is, and he’s absolutely abusive, don’t get me wrong, but grooming implies a serious degree of intent and the formation of a relationship with the purpose of manipulation and abuse, and I just - - don’t think Logan’s brain operates that way? I think he’s much, much more of an enmeshed parent than he is a groomer, because I think Logan loves all of his children in the fullest way that he’s able. He himself was a deeply traumatised child who grew into a horrible and abusive yet still deeply traumatised man, and to position him as only developing these relationships with his children for the purposes of manipulating them is just something I don’t see.
In many ways, it makes it worse, right? Because every decision he makes isn’t one with an end goal for the kids, it’s ongoing and his moments of genuine warmth are only matched by the moments he leaves them in the harshest of colds. Like he promised Shiv Waystar not because he was grooming her but because for a minute, he genuinely wanted her to have it, which makes it a lot harder for Shiv to process than if he was always stringing her along.
This idea of promising a company of that scale to a seven-year-old boy, to me at least, doesn’t just read as unsettling, but as deeply tragic, because to make that sort of promise to a child that young isn’t about Logan’s relationship with Kendall at all, it’s about Logan’s relationship with himself and his past.
Think of it this way – we know that Logan and Caroline didn’t divorce until Shiv was (at least) 11, which means he was making that promise long before they split up, and in the late 80s, probably not long after Waystar had had that expansion into Parks and Cruises.
I think what makes it insidious is not the promise in itself, but the fact that Logan has no concept of the fact that Kendall would and does shape his entire life and identity around the offer. To Logan, it’s probably an earnest thought offered on a sunny afternoon, but it's nakedly borne out of a deep internalised trauma over losing a father he’d never know and inheriting a business from an uncle who’d leave him scars that would last 70 years.
To give it to Kendall is to let him wear that trauma - a trauma he doesn't understand - like a cloak and tell him its a gift.
-
I'm separating this because I think I'm less confident with it overall as a theory, but I think there is another buried layer here too that Logan potentially saw something in Kendall that was inherently mmm, I don’t know what the word here is actually – vulnerable, I guess? But that’s not necessarily what I mean. My point is more that Logan’s a man who had, at the point of having at least the Golden Trio, all the resources in the world, and while arguably Shiv, Roman, and (to a lesser extent) Connor’s various issues and neuroses can be put down fairly cleanly to Logan’s abuse and neglect, I don’t necessarily think that Kendall’s can.
The show never diagnoses anyone, but I feel it’s pretty implicit on the show that Kendall’s bipolar, which feeds into his addiction issues (people with bipolar are up to 59% more likely than people without bipolar of being diagnosed with substance abuse disorders) and it’s outright stated in the pilot that Logan saw rehab as the ‘nut house’, and that he pulled Kendall out of it after just a day in 2.01, of which the latter is canonical medical negligence. How much medical negligence played into Kendall’s childhood, and how much Logan’s personal history between his sister’s death and his first wife’s nervous breakdown, informed perhaps a need to have a ‘healthy son’ is anyone’s guess, of course, but I think personally that it’s probably a significant factor.
Add to that that Logan does seem particularly protective of Kendall, and that Kendall’s the only one who seems to fully understand Logan’s medications and health (even though Connor’s the one to understand the funeral plans), I think is telling. That maybe there was a genuine (albeit extremely toxic and power imbalanced) shared intimacy around health between them that opened up a space for vulnerability and affection that Logan never understood the weight of, and that Kendall could never let go of.
This is getting into tldr territory now, haha, but yes! I guess I’d say that I agree with you, and I think what makes the relationship between Logan and Kendall particularly biting is Logan’s simultaneous dependence and thoughtlessness. He leans heavy and hard, but loathes the signs of splintering, and I think he feels he does Kendall a kindness by pretending not to see it a lot of the time. Pair that with Logan having not dealt with his own abuse and instead projecting all the ways he’s Not Noah onto his child, I think it’s overall just a mess of a traumatised person not recognising their own trauma and dropping the weight and expectations of all of that onto their seven year old son at an ice cream parlour and never growing enough to know what they did is fucked.

imagine teaching timeskip!oikawa spanish. when he moved to argentina he knew a pathetically small amount of the lanugage, just barely enough to get by. enter you - his new roommate that's dismayed every time he tries and fails to communicate in any language except his mother tongue. so you begin to teach him. it's infuriating, trying to teach him the sounds that japanese doesn't have, struggling to find translations with your own imperfect japanese. he falls in love with the way spanish rolls of your tongue so gracefully, and with the way your japanese is adorably broken. and he hopes that his own broken spanish is just as adorable to you.

Ok lets try this again - Buck bts mini meta!
Tumblr media
So we have the above jumper which I've already written a little bit about how its similar in chunkiness to a couple of others, this one from season 3 - adaptive skateboarding with Chris
Tumblr media
and this one from season 4 - games night at the Diaz house
Tumblr media
but there is something else I remembered. the colour and waffly-ness actually ties into this jumper from 3x06
Tumblr media
and the very same jumper from 4x04/5 when Buck finds out about Daniel.
Tumblr media
I've never really connected these two scenes before, but actually it makes totally sense when you think about it - a woman driving around completely oblivious to this person stuck in her windshield - just like Buck - completely oblivious to this massive secret in his life - until the baby box reveals it.
Then there is this new bts
Tumblr media
which has me all kinds of 👀👀👀 because this is so not a Buck costume - trust me as someone who has spent far far to long staring at the clothes worn on this show, I can assure you we've never ever seen Buck in anything thats even close to this outfit and thats why I'm fairly convinced that this is for an AU scene(s) of some kind because there is a very specific reason that you’d change Bucks style in this way.
there's been the arguement floating around that this is just Buck dressing up because his parents are in town, but he didn't dress as preppy Buck the last time they were in town
We had this dark grey shirt - very in keeping with Bucks costumes
Tumblr media
and this dark purple (almost black) sweater - again in keeping with his other costumes
Tumblr media
and then the only other interaction we have is when he's in uniform. Even flashback Buck's outfits are in keeping with present Buck outfits, so this preppy Buck outfit is standing out because it is so different from his usual choices.
I wouldn't normally comment on trousers - its hit and miss as to whether they'll be seen on screen, so while a costume designer will make sure they're in keeping with a character, its not the part of the outfit you generally choose to relay information to the audience - that isn't to say it doesn't happen (we've seen it with Hen a few times) but its less common.
Unless you go very out of character with them - then it becomes intentional and that is what we have going on here. Buck tends to wear either navy, black or grey trousers, but we've only seen him in a colour outside of those 3 colours a handful of times - some olive khaki ones (1x05, 1x07 2x06 2x07 2x17) and then some tan ones in season 2 (2x08). we saw him in some teal green shorts in 5x09 but thats it and all of those trousers are muted in tone. So these bright yellow ochre trousers (which I think are corduroy) are very very loud!
The striped shirt is fitting in to to theory I have about when we see Buck in vertical stripes and it representing Buck being emotionally compromised in some way - if this outfit does sit within an AU of some description, it still maintains that theory - because who is to say how Buck would’ve been treated if Daniel did live - because although it would have meant he was a different person - it doesn’t necessarily follow that that alternate version of Buck wouldn’t still have parental issues!
The green jumper is very interesting as well- its tonally in the same range as the mint green shirt from 6x07 and these two greens sit separate from all the other greens we’ve seen Buck in - those have either been jewel toned or olive toned. What I’m going to be interested in seeing between now and when this outfit appears is if we get a steady darkening of the greens Buck wears. The mint green is very very light - its almost white, while this one is much brighter and subsequently darker and my feeling is that we’ll get to see Bucks growth manifest in a darkening of the green he wears - the concept of which makes my colour theory loving heart sing - because green means growth and watching a character grow as the greens darken - chefs kiss 😎
Then there is the preppy nature of this outfit - which I have to say - really doesn’t fit Buck at all - the shirt and jumper combo - again not something we’ve seen on Buck before - shirt and jacket, yes, jumper and jacket, yes, but shirt and jumper - well this will be the first time (Unless we see one between now and this one being on our screens. I also want to add a little aside about the fact that Buck is wearing his watch - in the past when we’ve seen Buck in long sleeves outside of work, he hasn’t tended to be wearing his watch - I’ve said before how his watch wearing outside of work is sporadic and doesn’t seem to fit into a specific pattern - unlike Eddie’s watch wearing. Well this season Buck has worn his watch ALL. THE. TIME!! and it appears this is carrying on into 6b and its clearly intentional - almost like the Eddie and time metaphor has been transfered onto Buck - which is a whole other post!!!
Ok I’d typed up all of the above before 6x08 aired - I just hadn’t posted it because I finished writing it just before the episode went out and I didn’t want this to get lost in the tsunami of live blogging etc! I’m adding this in because my little thing above about the green shirts getting darker - we actually saw it start to happen last night!!!! that shirt in the return to the ren faire scene with Hen - same tone but a darker shade!! I love you Kenni Wallace you are making this costume and colour nerd very very happy right now!
