I think fans need to remember Spencer and Trina are young adults just getting started in their adulting journeys and they’re not gonna do everything just right. We’re talking about Spencer who’s hardly had anyone to mentor him, show him the way on how to navigate the world properly. As he said he’s learning as he go and basically establishing his own moral code to live by and Trina has had a major impact on that. It’s not easy to get off an elevator and unexpectedly see your gf and her family standing there mean mugging you when you are with your grandma and the woman that your grandma called behind your back who you can’t stand. It was an awkward moment full of tension. Maybe Trina pained look was more about just being separated from Spencer moreso than him leaving with psycho. Also she sees how he looks and that’s gonna bother her, they are so connected so his pain is her pain and vice versa. Also Trina’s family went through it with her being missing regardless of how crazy Portia is sounding right now, that is her daughter and Spencer knows and is sensitive to how important family is, how important it is to Trina. It’s delicate waters they have to navigate and he was being cautious and respectful of the situation with her and her family as well as knowing the shit show he had going on. I’m sure Trina told Spencer what her plan was when they got home so he was aware of what she was gonna be discussing with them. I just think we fans have to remember that when we were their age we didn’t have it all figured out and we made some not so smart decisions at the time that we probably look back and wonder what were we thinking and that’s okay. We live, we learn. Yes with more experienced eyes and on the outside looking in we can easily say the coulda, shoulda, would’ve. Yes the writers are ridiculous with this baby storyline but I’m more thinking about trying to remember these are young people making decisions young people make with the knowledge and experience that they have at the time

I pretty much agree with this. I think Trina and Spencer's awkward moments of navigating adulthood are part of their charm. I didn't see the shoulder tap as some great offensive moment, and I honestly don't think Spencer's calculus was that deep about it either.

I really think it just hit him in that moment exactly how Trina's family perceives him and how his living arrangement makes him look, and he was simply embarrassed. The shoulder tap was hilariously casual in tone after everything they survived and said to each other. It's also not even close to the dumbest thing Spencer has done since he met Trina.
