Notes on the Il Sistina Cats production

I was able to see the Il Sistina Production on three seperate days: 19.10.2023 20:30, 20.10.2023 20:30 and 21.10.2023 16:00. These are my notes on this production.

I will use headlines so you can skip parts you don't want to read.

I'm a lazy ass bitch so I will use the English names and not the Italian ones.

First day I had the full cast.

Second day Grizabella was covered by another actress who played Grizabella a little bit different. Unfortunetly I didn't catch her name when they anounced it.

Third day Quaxo was missing so his lines went to Alonzo.

Stage/Setting:

The Il Sistina production doesn't take place in London but in Rome. This is mostly shown by the setting but is also referenced in the lyrics (I do not speak Italian, but I understand some words). There is for example a street sign on stage which says: "Largo di Torre Argentina" which is a place in Rome and the LED wall in the background shows the Colosseum most of the time. There is also a Roman water fountain on the right side which even dispenses (fake?) water. The is also a street sign with "Via della Gatta" (Street of Cats)

Characters/Cast:

They have a lot of chorus characters: Quaxo is a seperate character from Mistoffelees, they have Jemima AND Syllabub, Electra, Etcetera, George and Bill Bailey who is also named Carbuckety.

This season Bustopher Jones and Skimbleshanks are palyed by the same actor, he plays Bustopher Jones during the first act and Skimble during the second.

Gus is a seperate character with a very strong chorus identity which also takes part in the ball and in the Macavity fight.

The Macavity chorus identity is called Admetus.

Songs and characters:

Jellicle Cats:

Munkustrap is the first character on stage. His make up and wig are the only ones I do not like, but the actor, Sergio Giagomelli, is very good. He does a lot of dancing too. Second on stage is Demeter but she is later scared away by chorus Gus who wants to sit on her spot.

The number is very energetic and I really love the choreography. It "quotes" some of the Lynne Choreo but also the new Broadway one.

The Naming of Cats:

During this song they have the poem on the wall in the background which I found very distracting. They also changed some of the names. One name was Marc Aurel which was fun. The cats move when their names are mentioned. Bombalurina is very dramatic. Her collar sparkles a lot.

White Cat Solo:

Victoria dances next to the fountain. It was very beautiful. At the end Munkustrap joins her and lifts her up.

Invitation to the Jellicle Ball:

After Victoria's solo the lines usually given to Misto are given to the Quaxo character. On the day Quaxo was missing it was given to Alonzo. Still Misto isn't a mute characters, he has some lines later in the play.

The Old Gumbie Cat:

Il Sistina plays that bit where Misto thinks Munkustrap wants to sing and where he is quite disapointed when he doesn't. He needs som comfort by Tanto and Cori afterward. Meanwhile Tugger is still on stage which I've never seen before. Now it's his chance to be annoyed by her. The Gumbie Trio is absolutly amazing, all three of them are even more prominent during the musical. Gus wants to play with Demeters tail but she just smiles at him and goes away to dance with Jelly and Bomba.

Jennyanydots wears a ball of wool. There is tap dancing and rope jumping, mice and cockroaches, but the cockroaches are just knee socks. The number is very fun and energetic.

The Rum Tum Tugger:

First of all I absolutly adore the Tugger design. He is not black but gold, has amazing Make up with a heart and golden glitter eyeshadow. He doesn't have his mane but a big belt and during his number he also wears a white leather jacket. Gus more or less introduces him by showing the audience a poster which advertises one of his shows. First the Gumbie Trio, two younger kittens, Mistoffelees and Mungojerrie dance while Tugger sings. One after another the other Cats return. First Mistoffelees and Mungojerrie try to hold the other girls back (Cassandra and Tanto included) but no chance. They storm the stage.

The line usually sung by Misto, Alonzo or Munkustrap is given to Quaxo again (The terrible bore one). On the day Quaxo was missing it was given to Alonzo again.

The Gumbie Trio also plays a very prominent role in this song. Bombalurina has a great interest in Tugger, Jellylorum is very entertained and enjoys the show and the flirting, Demeter is not that amused by Tugger and his flirting but Vibes with the other Cats and joins the choreo. Sometimes she looked very shocked at him, it was really fun. The acting by Viviana Salvo (Demeter) and Natalia Scarpolini (Jellylorum) is absolutly great during this number, same for Giorgia Cino (Bombalurina).

Giorgia Adamo who plays Tugger does a really great job with his voice and acting. I flirted a lot with the audience. Really cool, really flirty Tugger.

Interesting staging choices were made too: At the end the fangirls do not stay on stage. They place themselves between orchestra pit and audience and look up to the stage where Tugger is performing, so they themselves become part of the audience. Jemima is fangirl number one and screams for Tugger until he shushes her.

Grizabella: The Glamour Cat

All in all the auditorium (Zuschauerraum) is playing a big part in the staging choices. At the end of number Tugger goes down one of the corridors and starts to hiss because he sees Grizabella. He turns around and goes back on stage. Grizabella is following him. First part of her song she sings next to the orchestra pit, then she wants to enter the stage. Munkustrap doesn't want that to happen so he blocks her path. He doesn't want her on stage, as part of the Jellicle Ball or even the play on a meta level. They stare each other down and Grizabella wins the fight. Munkustrap steps back and she can enter the stage.

Tugger attacks her coat and Electra hisses her while Jeima wants to touch her, but not on Munkustraps watch. Demeter and Bombalurina sing the rest of the song, then Grizabella leaves on the other side of the stage again.

I would say in this production Munkustrap and Tugger are her biggest foes. They do not want her around, while Old Deuteronomy and Jemima are her biggest allies.

Bustopher Jones

There is a stone foot on the right side of the stage. This is where Bustopher Jones lives. There is a hole in the foot and he pops out of there on multiple occasions. I didn't understand much of the lyrics but this Bustopher Jones loves Sushi. Jenny is very happy to sing about him, Bombalurina not so much.

Similar to the Broadway Revival this number works with a lot of food shaped props. It's very wholesome and fun.

Bustopher Jones is very involved in the first act, sadly he wasn't in the second act because then the actor plays Skimbleshanks.

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer

After Bustopher Jones the Macavity scare happens and interesting enough Macavity really makes an appearance. He wears a coat and a hat. There are lights on underneath his brim (Krempe?), so you can see his face. He has a very evil laughter.

Rosella Lubrina (Rumpleteazer) and Simone Raggozino (Mungojerrie) are both absolutly amazing. Simone does a lot of acrobatics, not just during his number but also during other numbers. The number is very fun with its own choreography and some propbs, like a newspaper article which is about them, a fifty Euro bill and a bucket with holes. The ending of the number is more dynamic but they also do a short version of the cartwheel.

Also Bustopher Jones makes another appearance. He wars a cooks head so I think he sang the line conected to the cook in the lyrics.

The other cats do not seem to dislike them but celebrate them which makes a lot of sense. They do some sort of Polonaise to celerbrate them.

Old Deuteronomy

Mistoffelees announces Old Deuteronomy and then Munkustrap and Tugger sing the song together while Old Deuteronomy goes around in the auditorium, mostly on the first floor.

I think Fabritio Corucci who plays Old Deuteronomy is an Opera singer because sounds very operatic.

The Jellicle Ball

The ball starts and I absolutly loved the choreography. Very fun. One thing I noted during the whole show is that there is a lot emphasis on individuality during the dance numbers. They are synchron but do not move exactly the same, the dancers bring their own style and interpretations to the movements which fits cats very well. Also there are dance groups but these groups are not strict. Cats leave their groups to join the dancing of other groups. Absolutly greatly thought through.

At the beginning of the Ball the make a formation where Cassandra is front center. There is a part during the choreography where Demeter dances alone while the two other groups dance around her. The choreographer knows which characters are important!

The first part of the Bomba section is danced by Bomba, Demeter, Jennyanydots and two other Cats. It's very acrobartic with jumps, splits and floor work, the second part of the Bomba sections are pairs, but other Cats: Tanto and Cori, Mungo and Rump, Misto and Etcetera(?), Munk and Victoria ... They do a dance with lifts. All in all there are more lifts than in the Lynne choreo, more like the Broadway choreo.

Also there is no Victoria x Plato dance. The cats dance in a group while Jemima has kind of a solo next to them. She feels Grizabella's presence. Than the cats lay down. Old Deutoronomy who sits left wants to invite Griz on stage, but Munkustrap is again not happy and so she leaves again, scared away and the ball continuous without her.

The second half of the ball is very energetic and so much fun. There are lot of acrobatics, even Bomba, Jelly and Jenny do some, as far as I remember. Like everybody has to do some. And Gus also does a lot of dancing during the ball which I'm not used to. Absolute great choreo and great energy.

At the end Grizabella returns on stage and the cats hiss at her. Interesting enough Admetus is really, really aggressiv towards her which could be the directors take on the riveraly which Macavity has to the other Jellicle Choice contenders in the 2019 movie. Admetus is really very hissy and aggressiv, he nearly attacks Grizabella but Munkustrap steps between them and hinders him. Admetus is still hissing but leaving the stage (Simone Nocerino played this part so well, he was legit scary, more scary than as Macavity). Cassandra hinders Victoria to touch her. Munkustrap hinders Jemima. Jemima is the last one to leave, Grizabella reaches out to her, but she goes away. Only Old Deut stay back on the side of the stage.

This scene was very interesting. It was like: Munkustrap doesn't want the cats to touch her and to be close to her but he also doesn't want her to get hurt by them so he protects her from Admetus.

Memory Part I

Grizabella is alone on the stage, Old Deut is still near by. She starts her sad dance and sings her song. Malika Ayane is an absolutly amazing singer, voice vice one of the best Grizabellas I've seen live. Old Deuteronomy wants to touch her, to welcome her back. At the end of her song it starts to rain. Curtain.

Intermission

Towards the end of the intermission the courtain gets lifted and people are alowed to take a picture with Old Deut. More and more Cats enter the stage and play with a tennis ball.

Moments of Happyness

I really loved Old Deuts voice, loved that it was very Opera. Jemima is great too, beautiful voice. Her design reminds me a little mit of the E-Girl trend. She is very cute. Also at the end Jellylorum hugs her before she starts singing about Gus.

Gus the Theatre Cat

Interesting choices were made again: A red curtain appears on the left side of the stage. There is also a door on the right side. For the first part of the song Gus ist not on stage. While Jellylorum is singing his shadows are projected on the curtain and the door. Only when he starts singing he steps on stage, but he doesn't sit down. One time he nearly falls but Rumpleteazer catches him. Also Munogjerrie does a salto when he calls on him (maybe it was the kittens these day part).

They also updated the lyrics. He sang something about Tiktok, Facebook and Likes and one day a woman in the audience was shouting "bravo" to that.

This Gus doesn't seem as frail and old as other Guses. He hardly even hesitates to start the Rumpus Cat number.

Rumpus Cat

The number is mostly sung by Gus and Munkustrap. It's musically quite similar to how the international tour does it, but I think different dog breeds are mentioned. What I also really liked was that the dogs are not seperated by gender. Both genders played both dog breeds. Bomba and Demeter do the wau wau part which usually goes to Rump and Mungo. Bomba, Demeter and Tugger were great dogs. I loved the choreo where all three of them were stomping and they were all so great. Etcetera was also a dog but she was a little bit more scared.

Gus comes out in a costume that reminds more of a pirate which was a fun wink at older productions. He also had a sword and he killed some of the dogs, I think Bomba died first. She did a great job at dying.

They do not play a reprise of Gus the theatre Cat. Gus just leaves and the Skimble number starts.

Skimbleshanks

At the beginning of the number the cats act in the front of the stage. Cassandra is crying (I do not know why) and Misto gives her a handkerchief so she can try her tears. It was quite funny and Gaia Soprano is an amazing Cass all in all, very beautiful, very good dancer, very dramatic, very expressive and also fun. Less proud than your usual Cass I would say.

Skimble appears wearing his uniform und sings his part. The LED wall shows a map of Italy and the route of the train. It goes through Italy, I think south. They also use long glowsticks to build a train. It seemded modernized.

Similar to the 2019 movie the stage production uses tap dancing (even the same step and later a second different step) and the other Cats sit on the ground and drum. It really sounds like a train and at the end Mistoffelees makes a really realistic choo choo noice.

The tap dancing was very simple but very effective and the audience loved the number.

Macavity

At the end of the number Macavity appears again. There is also a Macavity decoy to show his ability to teleport. The Cats attack him with Mungojerrie leading the way. But Macavity drives them away. He doesn't kidnap Old Deuteronomy yet. Old Deut stays on stage while Demeter begins the song. Macavity is also on stage, moves around in the background and listens to Demeter and Bombalurina, who mostly ignore him.

I really liked the arragement and the choreography of the number. Slightly sexy but also acrobatic and I really did love Bomba and Demeter so much. They are both great actors and dancers, active and central in every single number. Demeters make up is so fucking beautiful and it really just shows that you can do so much more than slap red lipstick on a female character to make her attractive.

There was more jumping at the end of the number. The backgournd dancers later are: Cass, Tanto, Electra, Etcetera Syllabub AND Jellylorum. They enter the stage from different sides and join the dance one after another. Loved the number so so much!

Macavity fight!

The cats come back and attack Macavity. Jenny is the first one to attack. Tugger tries to protect Old Deut but Macavity seems to be winning, so Rumpleteazer attacks Macavity from behind and saves Tugger. Mungojerrie attacks him again too but has to flee. At the end Macavity wins and disapears with Old Deut. He has a very evil laughter.

The fight has also some dance elements. At one time Macavity lifts Victoria, at another time he is lifted by two toms to attack Munkustrap. But all in all it is less brutal than in other productions I've seen.

Also, this production doesn't play the romance between Munk and Deme (or between Victoria and Admetus), as far as I saw, they are just cats, they are just vibing.

Mr. Mistoffelees

The cats do not seem very traumatized but they still want to get Old Deut back. Tugger starts the Mistoffelees song and Misto enters the stage quite at the beginning. He dances a lot and does A LOT of Magic tricks. Similar to Budapest this production descided to do more tricks and less dancing. Cassandra is his magical assistant and even does one trick by herself (cards out of the top hat). One time she is also in a floating box.

Pierpaolo Scida is a very happy, very fun Mistoffelees. He also does a good amount of dancing during the number. I think he was more happy and confident than the 2019 Mistoffelees but the production still took one idea from the movie here. Mistoffelees tries to bring Old Deut back two times, but fails two times. Macavity is seen up on the right side, laughing and holding Old Deut hostage. It seemed a little bit like a magical fight. Whose magic is stronger? Mistoffelees or Macavitys?

After failing two times Mistoffelees is very sad and he crouches on the right side of the stage, hiding his face. Tugger sits next to him, starts to sing again to encourage him to try one last time. He takes his hands and both rise up. Misto tries again and this time old Deut is back.

The Cats celebrate with a very fun choreo, Misto does some turns like in the Lynne choreo and a magic trick (turning a handkachief into a staff) and the number ends.

Memory

Grizabella is back and sings her song. I really liked both Grizabellas. This Grizabella is very strong. She didn't fall down, still Jemima sang her part.

Old Deuteronomy does announce her as Jellicle Choice, Victoria is the first one to touch her, Munkustrap second (so he doesn't hate her no more). The other Cats greet her and she goes to the heavy side layer.

The Ad-Dressing of Cats

Old Deut sings the number and the shows end. They dance a little bit on stage and go into the auditorium. End of the play.

End Notes

I really liked this production especially the make up, costumes and choreography. And I loved loved loved Demeter, Bombalurina, Jellylorum and Cassandra. Tugger, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer were absolutly great too.

The whole play seems more fun and less sad and dramatic than in replica productions. The fight was not very brutal and nobody got seriously hurt. Less romance, less violence, less sexy, less nearly dying but very entertaining and with a positive vibe to it. Neither Grizabella nor Gus seemed really like their end was near.

These cats just enjoy each others company and they love celerbrating together, which was very clear during the jellicle ball in a part where they kind of twisted with each other.

This production was really worth the trip!

This year the dates are Demeber 12 to December 16!

We know December is the holiday month which is why we chose it despite it being more busy in the hopes that we can warm up your heart during the holiday season with some extra Bellamy Blake feels!

This year we decided to spruce things up a bit and offer more than one option per day as a way to give creators a choice and let their imagination run free-so you can combine the themes or only opt for one of them-whatever works for you!

Day 1: Favorite episode/ favorite quote- you can chose one the other or both of them together, whatever rocks your boat!

Day 2: Favorite relationship/ favorite dynamic- again just like in Day 1-whatever it is you’re feeling like making! It can be a platonic relationship or a romantic one, a friendship or a familial dynamic, a strenious one or simply a character you enjoyed seeing Bellamy converse and have scenes with!

Day 3: Favorite HEART moment/Favorite underrated scene-again as before those can be combined. We all love our boy being getting all hearty and emotional and not being ashamed of it. There’s also more than one underrated scene where he proved that he is the character we adore so much!

Day 4: Favorite outlook/ outfit-you can choose a favorite outfit, faceless shots, up close and personal shots, full body shots, curls appreciation, hands appreciation, bruised and battered, colorful scenes, anything you feel like or combine all of these together!

Day 5: Favorite hero moment/Favorite fighting scene-again, these can be combined together or work seperately. We all love our boy being a hero even when he’s being a silly one risking his life and we do love to see him fight!

Day 6: Favorite quote/ Filipino word/poem-we had something like this last year and we decided to put it in again because we know how important it is to celebrate Bellamy’s heritage. You can choose a Filipino word, poem, saying, quote, anything that comes to mind or it can be a non-Filipino one if that’s too hard for you and just use a quote or lyrics of a song you think fits Bellamy best.  Either way, we can’t wait to see what you come up with  

Day 7: Free choice- let your imagination run free! As it is the Christmas month, you can make an AU with Bellamy seeing the snow for the first time or celebrating with Clarke and the delinquents or perhaps you can do something completely different and gift us a smiling!Bellamy moment, a sad one or a scene that you just love and can’t forget!

There not even trying anymore. They really love to make Molly completely gay.

Sweet song, would be a shame if these three got seperated.

i will always without a doubt say this ryumixmatch graphic especially since it took me forever to make it though for my gifsets i made before 2021 i'll have to say this n.flying rooftop gifset because i just adore the colours in it (i couldn't find it in the gif search probably because it's from 2019 so i've had to repost it lmfao)

an easier question would be one that was easy to make lmfao but i'm gonna say my 2021 favourites because i dealt with a lot of different mvs and trying to get it to match took me ages and especially because i did 12 instead of 10 having to create the 2 gifs in 1 and i had to figure out the sizing and finding clips which had the same amount of frames and work all that out lmfao, also figuring out the typography and how i wanted it to look also just me being able to narrow it down to 12 songs aksjdksds we are ignoring the fact in the caption i said i would do seperate posts for osts and jpop but never got around to it

I chose my baby Spider-Man/Peter Parkee, with a focus on the starker fandom!

1. How did you discover your fave?

spider-man movies -> video edits on insta/tiktok -> irondad fanfics on wattpad -> ao3 -> looking at starker in disgust -> becoming a part of the fandom

2. How long have you been a fan of your fave?

since homecoming! when it first came out but it took me a while to start interacting with the fandom

sorta! i don't actively write, just kinda drabble sometimes and i mostly dont post that, plus helping others write, i do have drafts that have been in my docs for years though

i do but i feel bad for him! poor guy has nobody :((, but before endgame i was in love with canon.

5. Tell some of your headcanons of your fave.

•his spider abilities on top of the originals like purring, cant have peppermint, hibernates, etc

•his love of animals, always stopping on patrols to say hi to them or trying to keep the strays he finss

•being worthy of mjolnir and picking it up without knowing the significance

•that he worms his way into the hearts of everyone he meets

no i dont, but i love seeing others fan art obviously!

sorta, it was very short and it was mostly in between going from irondad to starker as well as small breaks i took from everything lol

well they did have one with stephen and the other spidermen but i think it would be cool to see him really interacting w the women of marvel, aka kate, yelena or natasha (also rip), pepper, captain marvel, america chavez, etc.

Amber and James for character ask

Amber

Favorite thing about them: Her development and how she started being nice to Sofia quite quickly and it wasn't dragged out. And how she's a nice mix of a "mean girl" but still having morals, you can tell it balances out even more throughout the show. Least favorite thing about them: She can be quite selfish at times, but once again, it's something she gets better at. Favorite line: I don't remember any of her quotes... BROTP: Sofia, James OTP: None NOTP: Sofia, James Random headcanon: This one's kinda inspired by seeing other people talk about it, but I like the idea of Amber being a lesbian. Unpopular opinion: Not sure if this is unpopular, but for a character obsessed with fashion... her outfits can be quite hit or miss. They're either plain and boring, needlessly over the top or full of mismatched colours. Song I associate with them: I have none. Favorite picture of them: Not sure what to put here, but this screenshot is cute.

James

Favorite thing about them: He's a genuinely nice guy and I especially remember how supportive he was of Sofia in the first episode when literally everyone was against her doing something "not fit for a princess". Least favorite thing about them: He can be quite inmature, but he's still a kid after all, so I'm sure he'll grow out of it. Favorite line: I don't remember any of his quotes... BROTP: Sofia, Amber OTP: Jasabel is cute, I guess NOTP: Sofia, Amber Random headcanon: There's no way this kid doesn't have ADHD. Unpopular opinion: His design is a bit boring, it feels like they did nothing to seperate him from a generic kid design with a generic prince suit. Song I associate with them: I have none. Hey @ether-solrac here with a kind of a revision of an earlier idea I've posted before but still a fun/chaotic idea to share. Basically it's the "Miraculous Couffaines" concept.

Ok so it it starts again with a Chloé Couffaine type base with her being an orphan after being put up for adoption by Audrey. Only instead of being adopted by Anakra, she's adopted by Caline making her Chloé Bustier. Throughout her childhood Caline tried teaching Chloé about always doing the right thing and let's just say the lesson stuck a little too well. This is still a Chloé that will kick the crap out of bullies, break rules/laws if it means protecting someone, and actively joining protests against unjust politics. That's where she meets Anakra and the two just immediately bond. She loves her mom but Anakra is the one that really UNDERSTANDS her and her thought process. She's the best bad influence ever.

So it gets to the point where Caline wants to meet this mystery pirate woman that her daughter won't stop talking about, and when they do its just "Holy shit, Raka is that you?!" "Holy shit it's Cali!" and it's basically they used to be highschool/college sweethearts before life unfortunately seperated them and now this little blond bundle of attitude has brought them together again. The family just clicks, Chloé being ecstatic to have siblings and Caline getting along really well with the Couffaine siblings, and maybe a year or two later they're a full family on a massive double decker/physics defying Liberty v2.

Anyways that's the family set-up, now comes the crazy part, and where the dynamic changes the most from the original. So it's time for the miraculous to be chosen and Fu gets like a 2% boost to rational thought and thinks, "ok maybe I should choose actual adults." He chooses Caline for the Ladybug when he studies how compassionate she is with her students and people in general. He then chooses Anakra when he sees how she's committed to chaos as a force of chance for the better through various protests. And just for extra laughs dude has no idea he chose a married couple. Anakra recognizes Caline immediately since, and I quote, "I've studied every last curve on that body, like hell I wouldn't recognize my wife, glamor be damned." it takes Caline getting exactly one cheesy flirt from Anakra to break the glamor and realize who her partner is. Fu immediately gets wrecked when he trys to play favorites with the ladybug becuse there's no way these two keep literally anything secret from each other.

I'm a little less sure how they get the miraculous but essentially the remaining three miraculous of the main five get divded amongst the kids. I'm thinking Fox Luka and the flute gets replaced with either a lute or guitar. He can clearly visualize the heart songs for others to physically see as well. Chloé would still get the Turtle in a futile attempt to get her to be more passive, only she just straight up wails on Akumas with it. Full Captain America. She has a strong protective streak and she'll absolutely take the blows meant for her family but like hell she isnt also the one to throw the first punch. And finally that leaves the Bee for Juleka. I think it fits since she seems like the kind to wait in the background like a nija and wait for the perfect moment to absolutely stab enemies right in the back. Also I like the idea of Juleka getting a sort of royalty theme and playing on Rose's love for princes and princesses to flirt while in costume. Although it's less cheesy flirts and more smooth as fuck kisses on the the back of the hand and chivalry.

Ok so yeah that's the main premise. Just an entire family that's in on the secret and they've just got the strongest Incredibles vibe the entire time. Just a chaos family with a bunch of superpowers and tiny gods thrown into the mix. And that's the final thing, like since all 5 of the kwami just live in the house and don't have to hide they're just honorary members of the family and they just get dragged into the chaos just as much. Stuff like Tikki acting like the third mom. Plagg being a terrible influence. Trixx guiding everyone in pranks. Pollen being like emotional support. Wayzz throwing centuries of wisdom out the window becuase wow this family honestly just took logic and rationality out back and shot it in cold blood huh?

Finally there's the ships. Obviously there's a sort of pre-established Anakraline. Julerose is a great fit like always. I like the idea of the "better love square"/Lukadrigaminette for Luka. Just a chaotic combo that he gets dragged into by accident when all he wanted was to vibe. All that really leaves is Chloé who I think would be nice to have a sort of agnst free ot3 with both Sabrina and Alix since this Chloé wouldn't have the negative history with either. Basically bring back what was supposed to be the original "mean girl" trio and just have them all be friends to lovers. Like Chloé is the overprotective caring one thats just naturally big on physical affection and taking action. Alix is the high intelligence low wisdom member of the trio that's the brains of the operation but lacks any self preservation instincts whatsoever. And finally Sabrina is the tired holder of the common sense and organization skills. She's stressed as hell with these two but she wouldn't give it up for the world. The cuddles are a nice motivator too. This also makes it REALLY easy to make Chloé loves red jokes.

Like usual if you guys want more I can maybe throw out more ideas to add to this. Honestly just consider this a playground to do what you want with. Hope you all enjoy it.

My World Is Ending

So this is gonna sound fucking stupid because I'm relating it to the absolute shit-show that was Supernatural, but I think I understand Dean Winchester's dependency on his little brother a little better now.

Basically, my parents were shitty so I took up a lot of the responsibilities of raising my sister. I'm only about 2 years older but I matured really fast (as trauma from abuse will sometimes cause), and I used every method at my disposal to make sure she didn't have to.

I bathed her. I gave her whatever food I could manage to cook. I tucked her into bed. I helped her do her homework. I taught her all the games I knew how to play and all the songs I could remember how to sing. When we eventually got seperate rooms she would sleepwalk to mine and crawl in bed next to me (I was never sure if she was actually sleepwalking or if she was just scared).

I dropped out of high school (I later got my GED) and started working at 14. Financially, my parents could have provided for us, but often neglected to. This was also during the time in which the physical abuse I was suffering escalated. My parents divorced and didn't tell us until one day my father abruptly packed his things and left. My older brother had already been drinking and smoking by that point, and was an asshole to me so we left each other alone. My mother was frequently gone and when she was there she was awful. I was used to it all. My father was in the army so he'd been gone before, my brother had never wanted anything to do with me and spent all his time alone, and my mother had been spending nights out somewhere forever. (When I was younger I used to try calling her to ask where she was, she never answered but she always came home eventually). My sister was being emotionally affected by everything, she started lashing out at me any time I tried to tell her she had to do something. "You're not my mom!" became her favorite phrase. Those words still hurt.

My sister started high school. She mellowed out a bit. I gave her lunch money and picked her up from school after work. She played Hamilton in the car and we each sang different parts. Most days we got take-out and I'd find ways to ask about her day. "How was school?" wouldn't get a real answer, but "Have you memorized your parts in choir?" would often get a whole performance, and "What are you working on in theater?" an explanation. It wasn't really a surprise, she'd been singing almost non-stop ever since she learned how.

She started taking driver's education. I was beyond terrified. I helped her memorize the road signs and she got her permit. My mother kept telling her she was bad at driving, I kept saying everyone is bad at driving at first. One day I layed back and closed my eyes in the backseat, I was only resting for a minute but after she glanced back I heard her whisper to my mother that she was glad I trusted her enough to sleep. I kept my eyes closed the whole way home. She got her license and I gave her my car (that had been passed down to me) and bought another used one.

She was in a bunch of plays throughout high school. I went to every performance I could, I must have seen each play 6 or 7 times each. Every show I looked for little details to compliment or discuss with her. I loved quoting them to her and watching her face light up when she realised I still remembered months later.

She started applying for colleges. Her last day of high school is this week. Her graduation is Saturday morning. When she leaves at the end of July, she'll be going many states and miles away. I'm so proud of her. I'm so sad. I feel like my world is ending.

Last night we watched a horror movie. She was so scared she asked me to sleep in her bed with her. The sun is almost completely risen, and I haven't slept. I keep looking over at her, like I'm scared she won't be there. The tears keep coming, but I just wipe them away and try to breathe through it. I'll probably never get to lay next to her all night again, and definitely not in this house. My baby is grown up.

I've had depression as long as I can remember. I used to think I knew pain, the gaping darkness of the inevitable future has proved me wrong. What will I have without her? Who will I even be? For so long I haven't looked more than a few days ahead. The chasm of a life without her was never something I considered, never something I realised would eventually happen. My world is ending. I spent so long with the knowledge that she relied on me being there, yet somehow I never realised I relied on her being there too. I kept going because of her, now I don't know how I will without her.

So yeah, I think I get some things about Dean now. I get the overprotectiveness. The constant fear of not being good enough. I get why he looks at Sam like he's going to disappear or leave. I understand selling his soul to a demon to bring Sam back to life. Being willing to let the world burn if it means this one person is okay. I see why later, when Dean thought Sam was dead, he downed a shit ton of pills.

Anyone who's spoken to me lately knows I'm not in a good place, but it's hard to find things that seem worth living for when your world is already ending.

For the Gallavich Ask - #’s 10, 11 & 22. 💕

10. Favourite headcanon

Going to cheat slightly by directing you towards this old ficlet and accompanying meta of mine, because it does remain my favourite, I think.

To offer something new... while Mickey certainly didn't have (or look for) any romantic connections or actual relationships down in Mexico he did hook up with people and was out, both as gay and as a bottom. On the one hand, this might be slightly unrealistic because I'm not sure the cartel would be super accepting of it, but anything else would feel like an unfortunate regression for Mickey and make his choice of giving everything else up to go help  Ian far less impactful, so this is my story and I'm sticking with it. I actually have quite a few thoughts on this, especially in relation to 11x03, and might develop it into meta proper at some point.

11. Favourite dialogue/line/quote

To be honest, most of my favourite instances of Gallavich communication are non-verbal – they say so much with just looks and expressions and sometimes little touches, and to me that's one of the most intriguing aspects of their relationship, and one of the aspects that make it seem the most natural and real. For instance, I love “he isn't afraid to kiss me” - not so much because the line itself is very special, but because of everything it signifies: Ian taking a stand for himself and pushing for more instead of allowing Mickey to entirely dictate the terms of their relationship. Now that he is reasonably confident that Mickey would like to kiss him and does have actual and very real feelings for Ian he is growing tired of Mickey's reticience, so the frustration is real – but the way (indirect but ultimately challenging) he puts his implied demand is designed to make giving in easy for Mickey. That's a strategically sound choice, of course, since it makes Ian getting what he wants all the likelier, but it's also kind of sweet? Ian calls Mickey out and he pushes, but he doesn't push too far and he still respect Mickey's boundaries. And then there's that look on Mickey's face... He knows exactly what Ian's really saying and asking for, and he has to concede that yeah, Ian's got a point. (Also he really, really wants to kiss Ian, and I guess that he, too, is getting pretty damned tired of pretending that he doen't.)

Somewhat in the same vein, the “Mick. Wait.” of 11x04 is just glorious. Ian knows he's being played but what can he do but give in? Not a damned thing, and that makes him so frustrated (partly because he can absolutely imagine that smug smirk on Mickey's face).

Other hits include:

“Hey, asshole, weren't you listening? We're doing a murder thing here.” That's right, Mickey, don't let Lip derail your homocidial scheme! Eyes on the prize! Also, way to include your fiancé in your plans! That's some proper relationshipping right there! As they saying goes, couples who kill old homophobic Nazi fathers stay together.

“That's gorgerous.” I love that Mickey feels comfortable enough to let himself care about flowers! Being vocal about his desire not only to have flowers but the right flowers! @dreamylyfe-x recently wrote a very nice meta on this. (I am totally planning to get back to that one and Have Opinions because it's a fascinating discussion, but I am also a total flake so yeah.) There's also something about Mickey having a casual and perfectly civil (until it isn't) interaction that doesn't involve crime or scams or violence that gets to me. (In a comparison I doubt anyone but me will get this line reminds me of Darth Vader's “Yes, Admiral, what is I?” in Empire Strikes back, another not at all important or special line that I absolutely adore. I'm not kidding, that's my favourite Vader line.)

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, they're the hipster shit, with the suspenders and the harp and all that, huh. Yeah, you're going to that.” Listen, very few things give me more life than Ian's absolute vindictive glee here. God, that smile! It makes me cackle in delight every damned time. You had it coming, Mick.

“I, Ian, take you, Mickey.” I don't have to explain this one to you guys. You know.

… oh were you supposed to pick one? Tough titties.

22. Favourite episode

I am very fond of 7x11, though I don't watch it nearly as often as I watch other episodes. The goodbye at the end is just too damn painful, even though it's incredibly beautiful and feels right. Them parting here always makes me think of Damon Salavatore's line in The Vampire Diaries: “It's right. Not just right now.” Oh, and a few lines from Alex the Astronaut's Happy Song: “you know that I love you / but I think it's over / will it still be over, always?” One day I will learn to make GIF:s and make a set to these lyrics, just see if I don't! (I probably won't.)

Ian's teary eyes and then that tremulous but genuinely happy and relieved smile as Mickey makes it across the border... There's so much love and loss and – I think – gratitude there; the sharp pain of saying a final farewell to someone you love mingling with the thankful joy of having known that love in the first place. And it's a moment of finding freedom for Ian, too; not because he's letting go of Mickey but because he's letting go of his old (and failed) strategy to deal with being seperated from him. No longer will he try to lessen the loss by lessening what they had; this time he allows his love for Mickey, allows it to matter and hurt, and he doesn't shy from the pain of seperation. Ungh. It's perfect, but it's heartbreaking. I can't imagine how I'd have reacted if I'd watched it as it aired, since it hits this hard even going into it knowing that Ian and Mickey will reunite.

Intrestingly enough, this episode doesn't contain one single of my favourite Gallavich scenes, but it just works very well as an episode. It encapsulates both their chaotic energy and their sweet tenderness, even as it illustrates their relevant differences, and it has a well-defined arc with a great (if painful) emotional pay-off. And the non-Gallavich stuff is very good too! (Contrast with 10x11, which I think have a good and well-contained Gallavich storyline with a nice payoff, and which incidentally contains both one of my favourite scenes – the flower shop – and one of my least favourite scenes – the caterer – but I am very meh about the non-Gallavich stuff.)

Also, Ian and Mickey also looks absolutely gorgerous in this one and there's manhandling. Surely that's as close to perfection as heaven will allow.

(The episodes I watch most often would probably be 3x03, 4x11, and 10x12.)

Roadtrip ft. PmBata from Dream Analysis /Interpretation

I’m a little bit of a music nerd and thought why not. Lyrics will be italicized and quoted lyrics will be bolded. While some things may be stated rather bluntly, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. I don’t care if something is added just to sound nice, because it’s still music. Good music isn’t limited to complex and intricate pieces, and I will fight you over that. I will also be mostly focused on my interpretation rather than the intended meaning. I will treat Dream the same way I treat Mozart, looking at the looking at the official notes and tossing them to the wind. While the original intent is important, it’s only one way of many to look at a piece, and I’ve always preferred me and my band’s understanding of a piece instead of sticking solely to source material. In short, I find musicality very important. 

First off most of this will be stating the obvious, because it’s a rather simplistic song. It is the definition of radio friendly, which makes sense with Dream’s brand. They didn’t have each note add onto and change the meaning, but neither did Mozart. His pieces were known to be simplistic, yet we still look back at him as one of the greats of classical music.

Also, I will mostly be looking at the lyrics as if it’s talking about a relationship. I know Dream has said that it’s not solely a love song, but the lyrics are phrased in that way (assumingly because love songs are what do the best), so a large amount of this analysis will be built upon that assumption

You’re immediately hit with nostalgia as once the first notes come in. It’s a somber summer road trip. It honestly reminds me of Sea Glass by Rick Kirby, because even though the styles are completely different, the imagery is very strong and makes it easy to picture what’s happening. That can be very important for keeping the attention of the listener and to have them coming back again. The first few notes immediately make that emotional connection and brings you to the headspace of the singer.  (actual lyric analysis after the read more)

“People change like the tides in the ocean At least I think or am I dead wrong?”

   I see this as wondering if someone changed, or if he never really knew them. Trying to accept what’s happened, while still looking back and trying to find answers

“Foot on the brake at the light, I don't notice I sit and wait until the next song”

   He’s stagnant with where he’s at with acceptance. The nostalgia has left him frozen where he’s at. The green light could mean that life is telling him to move forward and move on, but he’s still waiting for the next song, the next wave of emotions, the next push to keep going. He’s on autopilot with his memories, but in this case they’re holding him back

“Twenty hours in an old van Up the east coast through the cold wind Drove twenty hours by the ocean Up the east coast, what a road trip

Now that interstate is paved with memories Of a past life I lived when I was eighteen And evеry winter, I think back to what we used to bе In that past life we lived at eighteen”    He’s only 21, which could be showing at how fast life moves in your early adult years. 18 was only 3 years ago, but it was also a life time ago. You and your friends are not the same people you were back then. College, jobs, bills, taxes, and the sorts are major landmarks for your life. Those are the things that really push you into the next stage of your life. That glow of being an adult but still feeling like a child wears off at some point in between the responsibilities, but at the end of the day you’re still you. To me, it’s referring to a time that only exists in memories. There wasn’t a time when none of these things mattered, but there was a time where it wasn’t at the forefront of every thought. It’s that naive innocence and ignorance that you can’t get back

Uh, I reminisce about a past life Things change, I get it 'cause nothing lasts, right?”

   PmBata’s lines are more obviously about a relationship, which makes sense with making the song marketable. I”ll be treating his and Dream’s lines as if they’re seperate stories for the most part. Here it represents him understanding that “nothing lasts”, but still being hung up over her. Blaming the end on it bound on happening eventually, instead of the issues with the relationship. There’s the denial of anything happening, because he’s not ready to move on. 

“Yeah, and I was thinkin' 'bout her last night Scrollin' through our memories, debatin' 'bout our last times”

   This is when you’re looking back at your old texts, pictures, and posts together. Wondering where everything went wrong. It’s honestly self-destructive and can lead to a spiral of negative thoughts and emotions. It’s giving into what you know is wrong, but there’s the need to make sense of it all. It’s the search for closure when there’s none to find

“Ayy, for a minute we was cool Then we flew just a little too close to the sun Now we finished, now we through Guess we knew one day we would have to grow up”

   Really cements the idea of young love. It was short and intense, but when the relationship actually got serious it fell apart. They weren’t ready for the next step. 

“Twenty hours in an old Ford Across the Midwest, thinking, "What for?" Drove twenty hours, but it's hopeless Across the Midwest, what a road trip”

   This captures the idea of escaping old memories, but you can’t run far enough. Avoiding them only worked for so long, but it’s time to face them. “thinking, What for?” is him saying that it’s worthless to drive and forget. The present is haunted with the past, and it’s time to confront those ghosts.

“Now that interstate is paved with memories Of a past life I lived when I was eighteen And every winter, I think back to what we used to be In that past life we lived at eighteen”

   The song ends without those feelings of nostalgia being resolved. In the end, they’re still both reminiscing on the past and trying to make sense of it. Life has completely changed and they’re nowhere near to who they were 3 years ago, but they’re still both young and not yet ready to move on. They’re still on the cusp of adulthood, but they are putting the next foot forward as they’re looking behind their backs.

I hope this all made sense. Once again it’s all based off of my interpretation. I know the first couple of lines are completely off on what dream said that it’s about, but I see it more as the desperate and futile attempts at escaping your memories. At some point you have to realize that you need to acknowledge them and accept what’s happened, and this song is right before that. 

I would like to talk on the instruments used, but there’s not much to say. It doesn’t really add onto the meaning. They more of enhance the experience like a movie score, instead of telling a story like a orchestra. Contrary to popular belief it’s not a bad thing, it just means it’s less important for this song. The feeling of nostalgia and summer are very clear and present, which means the the music did its job very well. I really like it, there’s just not a reason to talk about it more

I typically do analysis for songs with more focus in the instruments, so this was a welcome break from that. It’s nice to not have to look at every single time a new instrument comes up and try to derive meaning from that. I love doing it, but it’s exhausting and songs like this are a nice change of pace
