Gender variance and it's link with neurodivergency

Okay so this is it going to be another long one

Okay Tumblr, let's talk gender (I know, your favorite topic) my preface on why this topic matters to me is: I'm autistic ( diagnosed moderate to severe autism) I'm nonbinary trans ( in a way that most non-autistic people don't understand and actually look down on) and I went to college for gender study ( Mostly for intersex studies but a lot of my research was around non-binary and trans identities) I will be using the term autism as pants when I have experience with however when ADHD is part of the study I will use ND which stands for neurodivergent and yes this is going to be about xenogenders and neopronouns.

autism can affect gender the same way autism can affect literally every part of an identity. a big thing about having autism is the fact that it completely can change how you view personhood and time and object permanence and gender and literally all types of socially constructed ideas. let me also say hear that just because Society creates and enforces an idea does it mean that it doesn't exist to all people it just me that there is no nature law saying that it's real and the “rules” for these ideas can change and delete and create as time and Society evolves and changes. gender is one of those constructs.

Now I'll take it by you reading this you know what transgender people are (if you don't understand what a trans person is send me an ask and I'll type you up a pretty little essay lmao, or Google it but that's a scary thought sense literally any Source or website can come up on Google including biased websites so be careful I guess LOL) anyway to be super basic trans people are anyone who doesn't identify as the gender they were assigned at Birth (yes that includes non-binary people I could do a whole nother essay about that shit how y'all keep spreading trying to separate non-binary people from the trans umbrella) some people don't like to use the label and that is totally fine by the way.

now autistic people to view the world in a way differently than allistic (neurotypical) ppl do. we don't take everything people teach us at 100% fact and we tend to question everything and demand proof and evidence for things before we can set it as a fact in our brains. This leads to why a lot of autistic people are atheist (although a lot of religions and this is not bashing on religious people at all I am actually a Jewish convert) this questioning leads to a lot of social constructs being ignored or not understood At All by a lot of autistic people and personally I think that's a good thing. allistics take everything their parents and teachers and schools teach them as fact until someone else says something and then they pick which ones to believe. autistic people study and research and learn about a topic before forming an opinion and while this may lead to them studying and believing very biased material and spitting it out as fact it can also lead them to try and Discover it is real by themselves.

because of this autistic people are more question their gender or not fall in a binary way at all as the concept of gender makes no sense to a lot of us. “ if gender is a construct then autistic people who are less aware of social norms are less likely to develop a typical gender identity”

no really look: “ children and teens with autism spectrum disorder ASD or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder ADHD are much more likely to express a wish to be the opposite sex compared with their typical developing peers” That was posted in 2014. we have been saying this stuff forever but no one wants to listen. the thing is gender variance (being not cisgender or at least questioning it) has always been closely hand-in-hand with autistic and ADHD people I'm even the doctor who did that study understood right away that it all made sense the whole time: “ Dr. Strang said they were initially surprised to find an overrepresentation of gender variance among children with ADHD. However, they later realized that prior studies have shown increased levels of disruptive behavior and other behavioral problems among young people with gender variance” SEE YOURE NOT WEIRD YOURE JUST YOU AND YOURE NOT ALONE IN THIS!!

5% autistic people who did the study were trans or questioning. it was also equal between the Sexes fun fact. that may not seem like a lot till you realize that the national average is only .7% that's literally over 700% higher than the national average. That's so many! and that's just in America.

in Holland there was a study in 2010 “ nearly 8% of the more than 200 Children and adolescents referred to a clinic for gender dysphoria also came up positive on a assessment for ASD” they weren't even testing for ADHD so the numbers could be even higher!

now I want to talk about a certain section of the trans umbrella that a lot of autistic people fall under called the non-binary umbrella. non-binary means anything that isn't just male or just female. it is not one third gender and non-binary doesn't mean that you don't have a gender. just clearing that up since cis people keep spreading that. non-binary is an umbrella term for any of the infinite genders you could use or create. now this is where I'm going to lose a bunch of you and that's okay because you don't have to understand our brains or emotions To respect us as real people. not many allistics can understand how we see and think and relate to things and that's okay you don't have to understand everything but just reading about this could be so much closer to respecting us for Who We Are from you've ever been and that's better than being against us just for existing.

now you might have heard of my Mutual Lars who was harassed by transmeds for using the term Autigender (I was going to link them but if it gets traction I don't want them to get any hate) since a lot of people roll their eyes at that and treated them disgustingly for using a term that 100% applied correctly. Autigender is described as " a neurogender which can only be understood in the context of being autistic or when one's autism greatly affects one's gender or how one experiences gender. Autigender is not autism as a gender, but rather is a gender that is so heavily influenced by autism that one's autism and one's experience of gender cannot be unlinked.” Now tell me that doesn't sound a lot like this entire essay I've been working on with full sources…..

xenogenders and neopronouns are a big argument point on whether or not people “believe” in non binary genders but a big part of those genders is that they originated from ND communities and are ways that we can try to describe what gender means us in a way that cis or even allistic trans people just can't comprehend or ever understand. Same with MOGAI genders or sexualities. A lot of these are created as a way to somehow describe an indescribable relationship with gender that is so personal you really cant explain it to anyone who isnt literally the same as you.

Even in studies done with trans autistic people a large amount of them dont even fall on a yes or no of having a gender at all and fall in some weird inbetween where you KINDA have a gender but its not a gender in the sense that others say it is but its also too much of a gender so say youre agender. And this is the kind of stuff that confuses allistic trans people and makes them think nonbinary genders are making stuff up for attention, which isnt true at all we just cant explain what it feels like to BE a trans autistic person to anyone who doesnt ALREADY know how it feels.

In this study out of the ppl questioned almost HALF of the autistic trans individuals had a “Sense of identity revolving around interests” meaning their gender and identity was more based off what they liked rather than boy or girl. That makes ppl with stuff like vampgender or pupgender make a lot more sense now doesnt it? We see that even in the study: “My sense of identity is fluid, just as my sense of gender is fluid […] The only constant identity that runs through my life as a thread is ‘dancer.’ This is more important to me than gender, name or any other identifying features… even more important than mother. I wouldn't admit that in the NT world as when I have, I have been corrected (after all Mother is supposed to be my primary identification, right?!) but I feel that I can admit that here. (Taylor)” and an agreement from another saying “Mine is Artist. Thank you, Taylor. (Jessie)” now dont you think if they grew up with terms like artistgender or dancergender they would just YOINK those up right away????

In fact “An absence of a sense of gender or being unsure of how their gender should “feel” was another common report” because as ive said before in this post AUTISTIC PEOPLE DONT SEE GENDER THE WAY ALLISTIC PEOPLE SEE IT. therefore we wont use the same terms or have the same identities nor could we explain it to anyone who doesnt already understand or question the same way! Participants even offered up quotes such as “As a child and even now, I don't ‘feel’ like a gender, I feel like myself and for the most part I am constantly trying to figure out what that means for me (Betty)” and also “I don't feel like a particular gender I'm not even sure what a gender should feel like (Helen)”

Now i know this isnt going to change everyones minds on this stuff but i can only hope that it at least helped people feel like theyre not broken and not alone in their feelings about this. You dont have to follow allistic rules. You dont have to stop searching inside for who you really wanna be. And you dont have to pick or choose terms forever because just as you grow and evolve so may your terms. Its okay to not know what or who you are and its okay to identify as nonhuman things or as your interests because what you love and what you do is a big part of who you are and shapes you everyday. Its not a bad thing! Just please everyone, treat ppl with respect and if you dont understand something that doesnt make it bad or wrong it just means its not for you. And thats okay.

WEEK 4- BLOGS AND VLOGS

I’ve set up this blog to document my business studies and I also think a separate blog for the public to view would also be great to document work and the research behind my work more thoroughly. Some Illustrators have a blog on their website. It is more informal and gives a bit more insight into yourself, your process and ideas as opposed to a formal portfolio. When I go onto build my website, I think I will add a separate tab for a blog section.

I believe blogging is a great way to engage people. Some people might not have the time or be bothered to sit and scroll through a blog. But video documentation can be a bit more exciting to sit and watch someone create artwork, as opposed to just reading. It’s effortless to sit and watch a video and it can be just as informative, if not more insightful as you can step into the life of the artist and view video content.

I think youtube is great but I have not got an account for my artwork. But I think tutorials and time lapses of doing art work are quite popular as people often enjoy to see the process. Youtube also requires a lot of editing and I would need a very good quality camera, which is something I would definitely consider in the future. But a popular app Ive seen people using on social media is TikTok. “Tik Tok is a social media platform for creating, sharing and discovering short music videos”.

A few artists/ illustrators that I follow on Instagram use the app. And think it could be quite good for some self promotion and to get some new followers.

I created the account and have called it UWU studio. So far I have posted just two videos. Both time lapse videos, one using pro markers and one using acrylic. I have only had the app one day but have accumulated some followers and some positive feedback in the comments.

Another social media platform is helpful for more exposure, possibly a different audience and also for feedback. You can see from the likes and comments the types of things people like, and perhaps want to see more of. So in the future I can tailor my uploads based on what my followers are interested in.

I will continue to use the account, as vlogging is something new for me and also something that could give me some more exposure and also possibly some new customers. I will update if the app proves to be a success and something that I continue to use as self promotion.

BENEFITS OF BLOGGING/VLOGGING

The benefits of blogging and vlogging is you can engage on a more personal level. A website is more of a portfolio and showcase fo just your work. Whereas through blogging and vlogging, you get more of a “ day in the life” experience. Where I’ve shown the process of a piece of artwork it allows the viewer to see how much work has gone into it, or the products I’ve used it causes interest and engagement. Using TikTok I’ve had a more global audience through the use of hashtags. And also a wider age range.

The Vlogging allows to just record what I am already doing. No extra work just allows you to see “ behind the scenes” which a lot of people really seem to engage well with. My followers are slowly building. As my accounts all have the same name I have gained some additional followers on other social media platforms too!

DOWNSIDE OF BLOGGING/ VLOGGING

Its quite time consuming, the editing of videos and the set up. Once I have developed my practice and have a set studio it would perhaps become easier. I could keep my go pro/ lighting In the same place on my desk so I just have to click start while I work and there won’t hopefully be as much set up time.

Also, writing isn’t a huge love of mine and I find blogging quite hard articulating my point.

I really like this blog. Its bright and bold and eye-catching.

this tumblr blog of mine, is to record vital business information and my progress in my self promotion and to guide me once I’ve left uni. But a separate blog could be good for my followers or potential clients/ customers to see more about me. On my website I have added a small blog area of my travels to show my passion for art goes much further than just studying, that its what I do mainly in my free time also!

A vlogger I really like is this YouTube account. Jess Engle. She gives a day in the life and talks about freelancing

Another one I like which isn't specific to illustration but great in terms of advice and running a business is this YouTube account. Nay Nichole. Giving tips and real life advice. It would take months of research to find some of these things out , asking lots of questions and these videos answer many important questions in minutes... and from a place of personal experience and success! It feels very personal and when I have more time is something I’d be super interested in as YouTube is such a popular platform it could benefit me in reaching a larger audience, more followers and then hopefully more clients!

UPDATE:

I started to use Vimeo to display some videos that I created for my contextual studies module. My project was a wellbeing garden exploring community and participatory art. Sadly, the project was postponed due to the pandemic. But doing a video actually meant more people were able to see the garden. Despite not being able to experience the garden in person, it has meant a wider audience has been able to view it globally; while still adhering to the lockdown. It also given people some ideas and inspiration on how people can transform their gardens and spend time in lockdown doing something beneficial for their mental health and the environment.

It gained quite a few views and so vlogging has actually proved a very useful tool for engagements and exposure. People from around Europe and the US viewed the videos which I could recognise from the comments.

The views I received ( as you can see from above screenshots) were more than the amount of guests who would've used the garden. However if I continue to vlog I will use YouTube as it is a more common platform and could potentially even receive more views. To watch on Vimeo you must have an account or sign in which could deter people from viewing. Instead YouTube is easier and simple as most people have an account or know how to use it. Once I have finished my degree I will definalty create an account for uwu studio showing work virtually or doing tutorials as I have previously taught art at a studio and its a popular way to engage people .

To start things off, I would like to acknowledge and inform those reading this of some context. This is written in September of 2017 by the author of this study Tumblr, who lives in Australia, and as such since this website is American centric, and higher education and technical schools have different funding systems, there will be stark differences in privilege levels of being able to do what I have done. I would also like to warn that there should be a few trigger warnings in here, child abuse mention, mental health mentions and depression in particular, so be ready.

I am currently studying a course in the realm of computer science, Certificate IV in Information, Digital media and Technology: Web Based Technologies. I am in the first term of this two-semester course, and currently also working a retail job I was working prior to the point that I decided to continue my education. Prior to this I had completed Certificate II and Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology general courses. Doing this course has revitalized my passion for my future, my love of education and drive to move forward.

Sometime in 2016, I had the return of a serious lifelong depression I’ve suffered, and in a real major way. I became the step-parent of a 16-year-old teenager I had in my relationship of over seven years, that I’d only really met on the weekends. By the step-parent, I mean that she decided to move in with us, and so we were suddenly full-time parents, not just parents on a casual basis. It was difficult, financially, and emotionally. My step-child was not really invested into her education, nor did she share interests with us. Eventually she ended up leaving at the end of the year to go back and live with her mother. Albeit, she left at the start of the holidays for a visit, and essentially only came back to gather her things.

Some of this was a lot for me. I never wanted to become a parent, and I did put in a lot, only for it to be completely disregarded. As well as the stresses that come with working retail, and the emotional strains of my work and another situation with my youngest sister, I returned to therapy, for the first time since leaving high school. In this time, I also discovered that I have Asperger’s, a higher functioning form of autism, alongside my known depression and anxiety, and in exploring that and why I lacked childhood diagnosis, issues with the physical, emotional and sexual abuse I went through returned.

After a few months of returning to life as a couple without children, but merely the memories of such, I began to regain a sense of stability, emotionally speaking. But I was still depressed with suicidal ideations that had surfaced the year prior. I’d begun arguing with my workplace about having a right to not work Sundays, mid through this argument which lasted several weeks I began to think back to the last time I remember really being happy all the time, and I thought back to my days living in the student village and attending school. I concluded, that I was being unfulfilled intellectually in my role as a retail worker, my mind had too much time to drown itself. So inevitably I had a decision to make, was I going to repeat the same thing I’d been doing for years, just hoping the work will get better, or I do something about it. I decided to return to school.

For several months, I couldn’t decide what exactly I wanted to do. I just knew I wanted to return to school, and I told those around me that is what I was going to do. Telling people around me was a way of making sure I didn’t convince myself out of it. Eventually I tossed up between the course I ended up doing, a Cert IV in Networking, and Cert II in Visual Arts. Eventually I chose Web Based Technology because it seemed like the best option for a future career path, along the lines of something I was interested in. I locked it in. I gave notice to my work that I was returning, and when I enrolled, gave as much notice as possible to change my rosters to suit.

So finally, I returned to school, and instantly I felt better. I felt, connected, more fulfilled and burning with purpose. Two days a week the class was on, day one was warned as being mostly a research class, where we looked at copyright, privacy and ethics, and would be boring. I found it quite the opposite, incredibly interesting and engaging, and my lecturer, she was as compelling and interesting as the course she taught. Day two was filled with a more direct coding class, which I also felt incredibly compelling. I also made friends, mostly guys, as IT courses do tend to be more male occupied, but a lady here and there I’m also quite friendly with. I could have conversations on shared interests, instead of through gritted teeth, just dreading the next racist remark, or insult of my core values. It is good to be able to connect with a group of people, and even more than that be accepted. I felt quite warm, when one day, I left a few minutes earlier for lunch and when I sat at the cafeteria, they joined me, I wasn’t just a hang on, someone they tolerated. It’s not something I ever really have felt, minus a very few exceptions.

As such me, my goals in returning to school were successful. I returned to school to satisfy something in me, that I was missing. To make myself happy, to bring passion into my work, and maybe tuck the depression I know can consume me, away. Even if it is only temporary, I feel better about the world. I feel like I’m on my way to the next part of my life, like I am finally growing and becoming a real adult. Next up, I need to focus on producing the best work I can, and get into better study habits, to stop procrastinating. Like writing essays on fandoms, and my reasons for returning to school and emotional journeys. I just need to do the work.

So for me, finding my way to school was a way I was able to break myself free of a cycle of depression. I hope that someone reads this and likes it. There’s no real big conclusion here, I’m still studying, not even finished my first term. But I’m feeling both excited and hopeful for my own future.

so last night people were sharing stories of how they became larries and i thought i’d make a big (emphasis on big) ol list of them because i found them really fun to read

I've been a 1D fan since 2013 and my sister and i always thought that l&h looked so good together but only the bromance and we're like "omg larries destroyed their friendship poor eleanor 1!1!1!", then in 2015 the "i'm gay pretty unfortunate isn't eleanor ?" happened and i was like WHAAT???? and i ended up searching more and more about larry (bc it was the only thing that came to my mind) and i found the videos and then i told my sister and then here we are.

I became a larrie because someone in my dash who rarely post about 1D posted the first louis/fred pic and tagged it babygate. So I went looking into the tag and found everything. I had doubt but then i saw the moment where H touch L arm and i was in! I actually became a fan of the music after. I've done everything in reverse with this band! But when i entered the fandom in feb2016 and i was hopping to see it all end like a month later! But hey, still here! And loving it mostly! End it!

it was 2011 and my friend told me she had found a really good song and the singers were so cute, she showed me wmyb video and i spent the whole day listening to it and then in the evening i wanted to find out more about these 5 guys. i started watching video diaries ans i was looking for the next one but i accidentally clicked "best larry moments" video aaand the rest is history

I became a larrie after aimh tweet hits 2m and everyone on all of my social media started freaking out even though I didn't follow any 1D blogs so I started search about them and now I'm here also at that time I was kinda homophobic 'cause I live in russia and grown up in middle eastern family and now I'm proud lesbian who knows a lot about LGBTQ+ history so thank you to my larents and 1D for making me gay lol 🌈💕

i was a fan since 2011 but didnt know about larry bc i was young and didnt have any social media but around 2013-2014 my friend showed me the "are you and louis dating" vid and i was like the mr krabs meme bc i just couldnt understand why larry would have to be covered up so i went home and watched "why elounor is fake" videos and my eyes were open and ever since that day ive been a larrie and i regret not knowing sooner but im here now !!

i saw the daddy daddy cool tweet and was like dude that's the wrong type of daddywtf? & I hadn't heard about a pregnancy? then a week later I had read the treatise and had a side blog and watched all the freddieismyqueen videos & was in way too deeeep lol. I've never been around when they weren't on the break even, I'm so confused about how I got here but now I can't escape 😝I had never even listened to their music before but then I also did that and was like damn they're so good?!

I just remembered going out once and being quite tipsy when DMD video came on so I pointed to Louis and Harry and said 'they're in love, but shh nobody can know' and one of my friends looked at me with a WTF?? expression on her face and said 'but I thought that was common knowledge'. Mind you, she still doesn't even know their names, let alone anything else. That was around the time bg was still a fresh wound and I'll never forget it bc it was so nice to hear it and also my hangover was a bitch.

I got interested in 1D right after their last concert, like right on Halloween. I became a Larrie that very same day too, right after i read Dan Wattpad's infamous "Harry and Louis hate each other". I saw articles floating around saying how they were enemies, reason for Zayn leaving...blah blah. I was sceptical, then i came across the famous OTRA hug, and i was like, no fucking way they hate each other, not with how they are hugging. I then delved into YT and discovered freddieismyqueen. Bless.

I joined july 2014 (2 months after they 've passed my country ouch) and was instantly hooked because this shit is like crack. Today I'm the darkest larrie that exists preaching the word for everyone who'll listen. I can WAIT for their CO because I have a party prepared? I literally have a wine since 2014 in my cellar that I'm only going to open the day they're free, I have nauthical theme stocked for the party. My friends just know that they have to come and that I'll be crying the whole month!!

weirdly enough i became a larry cos of that stupid channel 4 documentary id never heard of larry or gay shipping or whatever before that and i saw that and i was very mr krabs meme and i looked into it saw that it wasn't evil and gross like they were portraying it and never turned back

I joined the fandom in late 2012 and I wasn't a larrie but I wasn't an anti either i just hadn't looked into it but then i remember during the confirmation of bg on gma i felt bad for harry and i didnt really know why and I was surprised by my own reaction. Then with bg going on I started to realise that none of that could be real I did my research and I've been a larrie ever since :)

I joined the fandom in 2012, used to think Elounor was real but just because I never looked into it and I knew some people thought Larry was real at the time so I checked this insta page that debunked Elounor and I have no regrets 💙💚

When I become a 1D fan, in 2012, I liked elounor and I liked Eleanor unfortunately. I was not that into fandom things so I wasn't paying attention to details. But my whole view changed in 2014 when they came to South America for the WWAT and all those rumors in Argentina with the hotel room and Brazil that was an experience and I was like "ok something is happening here between them" and here I am, 4 years later and going strong as a larrie. I'm on the winning team 😌💅🏼

I became a larrie when my friend first introduced me to fanfiction. I read a larry one and was totally amazed by it. After that, I switched between het ones and larry ones, but always came back to larry. After that, I simply became obsessed with the pair, something that made me fall in love with the band and all of them. I watched the dairies and everything, and just saw how clear their infatuation was. Tumblr and a lot of other sites just simply proved the theory even more. No regrets ❤

i became a larrie late novemeber after a month of being in the 1d fandom. i watched freddieismyqueen videos and other proofs for hours everyday (especially over thanksgiving break)

I wasn't even a fan of 1D, but while I was looking for pictures of them to do a collage for a friend, I found one in which Louis and Harry were looking at each other and, damn, I can't explain what I felt, I just knew it. So, I was trying to figure out if I was the only one thinking there was something between this two, and it turned out I wasn't! I discovered tumblr, and I spent 3 days reading post, watching videos and proofs and...here I am, 3 years after, being the larriest larrie

I watched all the damn youtube videos in about a week and I noticed that in the video diaries on the stairs they were so ~cozy, and they were so Extra™ on stage and hl weren't like that with the other boys. They just emanated the feelings I suppressed: Ultra Gay. And yeah. That's how it Began for me

I became a larrie when I watched the behind the scenes of wmyb and Louis was saying "I've gotta say it" and Harry was all over him and hid his face in Louis' shoulder and said "no!"

Same like that previous anon i hadnt even considered two guys being more than friends bc of where i grew up. But just watching proof videos of them for a while i kind of realized how in love they were. Thats when i started thinking about how different and colorful the world actually is compared to what I've learned from the people i grew up around

I became a larrie when my friend and I would watch their video diaries together, and I would see the way h&l acted with each other. I mentioned it to my friend and she was like yeah, Larry, and she showed me one YouTube video so I spent weeks watching every single one I could find, all these years later and I've come to accept theres no way to crawl out of this 😂

are we sharing larrie stories? my friend became a fan early 2012 (and a larrie) and was adamant on making me on too, and I finally gave in summer 2013. I rmr the day after TCAs that year, niall tried to do a twitcam and idr how but some article got written abt the twitcam that included a link to those 'you just have to pay attention' videos. i was in entirely different fandom back in 2014, but one of my follower turns into a liam stan and starts to post about 1d and there was a post about how harry and louis can't touch each other and i thought that was really weird weren't they bandmates?? then i started digging around and stumble into a treatise blog. here i am now hahaha

I got into this fandom because of my best friend. She showed me week 4 diary video... and I was like are those two in a relationship?? I pointed at louis and harry and she said no why? He said I was at 67 in a 50 zone and also did not give me enough time to look for my proof of insurance. The case is complicated and it is about my car insurance. I misinformed my insurance company about my NCD. As a result they cancelled my policy. Hi. Recently i changed my address so i had to let the car insurance company know about that. But they charged(actually are willing to chage) me 423 pounds !! Yes, there's not a misspeling. It's 423 . As far as i ve seen, most people get charged no maximum than 50 pounds for this change. Also, there are no changes on my policy. I still have a garage, i still do the same mileage/year and so on. They even confirmed that there's no change in policy details except the new address. The new address it's in Manchester (central area) and before i lived in Bradford(UK). Now, in the mean time, i had a claim. If i would have found about this fee before, i would have cancel my insurance policy but now that i have a claim, i can't cancel it anymore and being refunded (as i paid the insurance for 1 year in one go, Not monthly). I found about this crazy 423 fee only now when i had this claim. You can't find anything about any fees related to changing the address neither on my policy papers nor on their website and online policy books. I suppose they considered this fee just as an administration fee. And i suppose they could have charged me even 10 000 pounds as an administration fee just because they can. I don't feel protected by the company anymore !! that's why it's an insurance company, to protect and take some risks out. The insurance company it's Admiral. I tryed to talk and explain them that this fee it's just nuts but they didn't agreed. The fee it's about 1/4 of the total insurance cost for 1 year. Ok we've got a small problem. At present we get a car from motability, but we want to switch to owning our own car, but we have a major problem with this new all cars must be insured at all times or declared SORN scheme. The problem we have is that our motability car goes back in October. We're in a rural location so we need a car ready for when the switch over happens. At present with the motability insurance their insurance only insures one vehicle, the motability one, and can't have additional vehicles added to it. We've got a few quotes from insurance companies who have told us that when the motability lease expires they will give us the no claim discount based on the motabiity insurance, but they wont give us that discount until the motability car goes back. So what we want to do is get the new car before October, put it on the drive, check everything is ok with it, and then insure it when we start using it on the road when the motability vehicle goes back. Only problem is with this new law we can't do that without declaring the vehicle SORN. Some of the vehicles we've seen come with a few months road tax, so we don't really want to lose that by declaring it SORN, just for a few weeks (or is the tax disc still valid when you remove the SORN on the car?), we also don't want to insure the vehicle before the motability vehicle goes back as we wont get any NCB from the new insurer and that will cost us about an extra 500 in insurance (our current insurance price is about 500-600 but with 0 years no claims it goes up to around 1,000-1,100 - we have 3 years no claims with motability and I've held my driving licence for 6 years). I've read that you don't need this compulsory insurance if the vehicle is in trade, or between registered owners. That is one option, but how long after you buy a vehicle can you keep it in that status, would we be able to keep it like that for a few weeks or is it pretty much instant when we get the car. Obviously I realise I would need some kind of temporary one day insurance to drive the vehicle home after purchase.""

Second, can the responsible party pay out the amount that is agreed upon and then expect to get the victims (my) car in return? Or is his considered extortion? Cause there is no f-in way I the person who is not responsible for the accident can find a reliable car for 1500 bucks, but could part out, or retire my car, sell my car and get more plus the 1500 she agreed upon. I am afraid that if insurance is involved they are going to total my car out thus costy me hundreds more, then it will be worth nothing and I would not be able to retire it and get money from that or even sell it.
