#so many clint and nat parallels

Text
It makes literally no sense for marvel to give us nat/Clint 2.0 with these two idiots who compliment each other so incredibly well and have so many parallels and all that chemistry with such amazing actresses and not do anything with it. Give the people (me) what they (I) want (Kate and yelena flirting training together texting and being worried about the other while having funny charged banter leading up to a kiss)

How I imagine an in-universe The Avengers musical
based on the comments from this pin
He starts the musical with the song "The Avengers Initiative" sung by the narrator Nick Fury featuring his speech
Loki has a ballad called "Kneel Before Me" during the scene where Tony and Steve catch him. This includes his theme from past movies (does he have one?) and his speech from the films, making this song one of the most dramatic solo songs from the musical. We get (hopefully) multiple reprises, each one getting more depressing and honest. (thanks @maddy_clough on Pinterest for the idea, I just expanded on it). Also, Loki dances quite gracefully and shows off a lot of his magic.
Nat is a mezzo and her solo/theme is the softest-sounding song (also @maddy_clough's idea). I honestly want it to be based on some sort of American children's rhyme (itsy bitsy spider?) to show how she is created by the red room since she was a child and was forced to watch many old (prob golden ages/wartime Walt Disney animation studios) Disney movies to learn American culture. Her fighting style is based on ballet and is the most graceful of them all. In her solo, she performs actual ballet, and fun fact, Nat is always played by an actor professionally trained in ballet.
The Chitauri has the most chaotic, hopefully unhinged dance ensemble, during the battle of new york. I just want it to be the craziest shit ever. But not disrespectful to the people lost in the battle of new york.
Steve actually doesn't have his own song/theme, it's the chorus girl song from the 40s. Fury did it to annoy tf out of Steve (and to please fanboy Coulson), but it is actually there to show you that since Steve became Captain America, Steve himself is just secondary. Most people don't want to know him because he's Steve but because he's Captain America. You'll think that Steve dances most with his shield but he's still Steve. He just punches every Chitauri he comes across using the shield as a surprise attack.
Look no one knows why the choreographer decided this but Clint never lets go of his bow & arrow when dancing. Like no one knows why, he just does. Hopefully, he does flips and cool moves, and he'll still be holding his fuckin bow & arrow. Oh and after the battle of new york, we get a bit where he lost his hearing aid so Nat & Clint sign to each other, and behind them, there's a little screen projection of each sign and what they mean. Considering how he isn't in any other MCU movies other than the avengers, I doubt that he has his own solo. like I wished he had a solo and confirmed that he does in fact spend most of his time in the vents but no one appreciates him in the mcu so...
Hulk has an actually good costume. Idk how they'll show the transformation but the Hulk costume is actually good. Bruce's solo is chaotic in a different sense cause Bruce and Hulk are fighting for the solo and their themes crash together. So the fight for control is also represented in the dance cause Bruce dances very small and it's controlled. Hulk is not as unhinged as the Chitauri but is out of control.
Thor's dance is based on Asgardian fighting techniques and how he fights in battle with his hammer. Unlike everyone else, he has an accent and in the script, the director used a whole different font like the comics to show that difference in accent and customs. I'm not sure how but I want Thor's solo and Loki's solo to be parallel in a sense, how you can see that they grew up together but there's a difference in outside respect that changes what they want.
Now Tony is very genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist throughout the musical but when he fights? He's the least graceful. Not only is he wearing his Iron Man costume (which is also very good and realistic) but he and Bruce are the only ones without actual training so he's very... chaotic. He has a solo where he introduces himself to the Avengers in "Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist" which shows Tony as what the in-universe during 2012 portrays him as but in the reprise, it's from Tony's actual perspective which is heartbreaking as always but the catch is the narrator changes from fury to Peggy for this reprise to shows the connection between him and S.H.I.E.L.D.
Does Coulson die, yes sadly. I'm sorry I can't change that even in the musical
Sadly Maria Hills was removed from the musical because according to Secret Invasion, Marvel and the MCU doesn't appreciate her enough to keep to alive.
The musical concludes with now the Avengers singing "The Avengers Initiative" with everyone doing their superhero pose cause why tf not.

Ah, so Clint Barton killed the gang that Maya’s father was part of. What I’m guessing this means is:
1) Echo wants Ronin for revenge, obviously
2) Wilson Fisk was OBVIOUSLY the real head of the gang, so that’s why Fisk is the supposed main villain of the series. Fisk is pissed that Clint killed so many of his guys and wants revenge.
Also, I just realized. We have the parallel of Yelena going after Clint because she was led to believe that he killed Nat, when he didn’t. But for Echo, Clint actually did kill her dad. Interesting, interesting.
Last note...damn, Clint was a dangerous motherfucker. He really moved like a ninja.

Wanda is still new to the avengers and doesn’t know what happened in your past. You sleep in Wanda’s room in an extra bed and the two of you become friends. You are a quite happy, social and spontaneous girl, but there’s a sad/depressed side to you that sometimes comes to the surface.

Pairing: Natasha (mother figure/mentor) x Female Reader Wanda (platonic (for now at least)) x Female Reader
Warnings for this part: -
Word count: 2.2 K
A/n: To be honest I think it turned out okay, I spent quite a while on this. Title: Take Me Home, by Chord Overstreet. The fic isn’t directly based or related to the song. The title just fits ;-). The series title is a line from Love Is War, by RUNAGROUND. I hope you enjoy it!

Absentmindedly you listen to the person in front of you. Some annoying colleague that is going on and on about a something that you would have done wrong. They had been going on for almost ten minutes and by now, you had stopped listening. Your mind drifted off to happy memories. It was something you did quite often. By reliving old memories once in a while, they would become recent in your mind again, which made it easier to go back to them, when you were feeling low. You thought about your younger self on the back of your brother’s bike, your small arms wrapped around his waist, your head pressed against his back. It had been his birthday and he had gotten a new bike. You didn’t like bikes, but when he asked for you to ride along the neighborhood with him, you gave in. Your childhood was filled with a lot of fear, but your brother always seemed to take that away. He was in almost all of your joyful memories. He was your safe place.
Your phone chimed, snapping you back into reality. You excused yourself from the ‘conversation’ and left the room. Once you close the door, you answer your phone.
“I owe you Nat! You saved me!”
“Hey Y/n… What did I save you from?”
“Some colleague, who was being incredibly tedious.”
“Need me to kill anyone?”
“Uhm… No. But what are you calling about?”
“We got new information about your brother and we need your help with it.” You fell silent for a moment at the mention of your brother.
“Oh... What is it?”
“I’m sorry Y/n, I can’t tell you over the phone. You’ll have to come to the compound.”
“Okay… I can do that. I’ll leave tomorrow morning and be there around dinner time?”
“Perfect. See you then.”
After cooking yourself some dinner you went to your room to pack. You dug deep in your closet to find your weekend bag. It had been a while since your last trip. You don’t travel that much. To be honest, you don’t travel at all. Your daily routine leaves just enough time for your daily work-out, some me-time and occasionally a movie. Staying busy avoids overthinking stuff, or well… overthinking more specific things. It took you a while to build up a routine. Have breakfast, work out, drive to the office, do your work, pretend to listen to the gossip from your fellow colleagues during the lunch break. Not that anything about your life is very challenging, but it’s just enough to keep you satisfied and to survive. Every now and then when you have a day off, you go shopping with a friend.
You are quite the cheerful girl. You are spontaneous and kind, people get along with you. You have a few friends, but none really close. The only close friends or family you have, are Nat, Steve, Tony, Clint, Thor and Bruce and you haven’t seen them in the while.
You had to empty your entire closet, but you finally found your white weekend bag with the subtle, pastel flowers pattern. You smile at it. It had been a gift from Nat. You used to have a boring and old grey bag, so she had bought you a new one. After you throw the bag on your bed, you start to fill it with clothes. You had no idea how long you’d be gone, so you packed for five days. Once your bag was fully stuffed you zipped it closed and threw it over your shoulder, making you way back to the living room.
You throw your bag next to the counter and are just about to get yourself some coffee, when the bel rings. You grab your phone and see Natasha standing in front of your door through the camera. Natasha had bought you a doorbell with a camera, to be sure you were as safe as possible when she wasn’t there. Aware of the camera she smiled at you through it. You chuckle at the sight and walk to the door to open it for her. Moments like this remind you of how amazing Natasha is. She had the key to you appartement, but chose not to use it, so she wouldn’t unnecessarily scare you.
“Surpriseee, figured I’d pick you up myself!”
“Hey Nat, come in!”
You take her jacket and hang it on the coat rack.
“How are you doing?”
“Good, actually. Can I get you something to drink?”
“Just coffee, please.”
“Got it.”
You go back to the counter and get yourself and Nat some coffee. You open the fridge and get two pieces of the pie that is left from your graduation ceremony. With two slices of cake and the coffee you go to the living room. You hand Natasha, who has sat down on the couch, her coffee and put the cake on the side table.
“Oehh, is there something to celebrate?”
“Yup… I got a job!”
“Y/n! I am so proud of you. I knew you could do it!” Tears begin to well in Natasha’s eyes and she puts down her coffee to give you a hug. You bury you head in her neck and let out a small sniff. She knew what it meant for you to get your first real job. The small party one of your friends threw had been basic. Everyone had congratulated you, but Natasha was the only one who truly took her time to express her happiness. She was the only one who knew what it meant to you. It had been a long way, a long, long way, but you made it! You did it!
She had been there with Steve when you graduated. She had driven six hours, just because she knew what it would mean to you, having her there. It had been a surprise, she hadn’t told you she was coming, so when you saw her from the stage you had broken down in tears.
You catch up a bit, after which you both go to bed. You turn the sofa into a bed for Natasha so she can sleep on it, but before you rest your eyes, Natasha helps you fill another suitcase with clothing. She laughed at the sight of your single bag and suggested you’d pack another suitcase.
*** After six hours of sleep Natasha wakes you up. You take the time to get out of your bed, you take a shower and put on some make-up. In a pair of light skinny jeans and a lively orange tank top, that complemented you tan, you sit down at the kitchen island. Natasha had made you breakfast and after you finished it, you got in the car. The ride would take about six hours, so before hitting the road, you stopped at the supermarket to get some snacks and drinks for on the way. After three hours you had a pit-stop at the MacDonald’s to get some lunch. You ordered the food via the McDrive and ate it in the car on the parking lot. When the food was finished you hit the road again. You had switched places, meaning Natasha would finish the drive to the compound. Natasha was still sipping from her milkshake in one hand, her other hand on the wheel. You leaned against the door with you head on your arm. You closed your eyes, feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin as you dozed off.
A bump in the road woke you up.
You shot up straight. When you realized there was no danger, you leaned back into you chair, resting you head against the headrest.
“Slept well, princess?” Nat teasingly said.
“Nat!” You stumped her shoulder with your elbow. She grinned, but kept her eyes on the road. A comfortable silence fell and you closed your eyes again, not intending to sleep again though.
“No, but for real. How have you been sleeping?” You knew what she meant. She wanted to know if you still had nightmares. They would still terrorize your nights sometimes. You would wake up sweating and shaking. Wide awake you would sit in the middle of your bed at midnight, tears running down your cheeks.
“Uhm, okay, I guess. Some nights better than others.” She turned her head to look at you, giving you a sweet smile. She laid her hand on your leg, her palm up. You put your hand in hers, giving it a slight squeeze.
“Now we’re talking about sleeping, a few rooms are under renovations, so the rooms are full. You can sleep in Wanda’s room. She has an extra bed on her room.”
“Is she okay with that?”
“I think so.”
“You didn’t ask her!?”
“No, but I’m sure it won’t be a problem.”
“Nat…”
“Just kidding, I told her she would have to share her room with you.”
“And…?”
“She was fine with it.”
*** With your suitcase in your hand, your bag over your shoulder and music in your ears, you enter Wanda’s room. On the right side of the room there’s a king-sized bed with two chairs and a coffee table on the left side of the bed, next to the window that covers the entire back side of the room, providing a view of the trees and water next to the compound. On the left side of the room there is a large wardrobe, a door to the bathroom and in the corner there’s a single bed, parallel to the window. Above the bed there’s a shelf with a plant, some books and a light string. The room wasn’t very decorated, there weren’t many personal items. One wall was painted in a grey tone with a hint of purple and there was a purple bedspread, covering the lower side of Wanda’s bed. On the nightstand was a photo of Wanda, standing next to a boy with white hair. You figured it must be her brother, Natasha had told you about the twins and the tragedy. Apart from the photo and some plants, there was nothing personal in the room.
You walked to the bed you’d be sleeping in and dropped your bags on the floor. You sat down on the bed and with your feet still on the ground you let your back rest on the bed, closing your eyes as you take the time to take in the feeling of home. To be honest you feel more home at the Avengers compound then at your own appartement. After a few minutes you got up from the bed and put on some upbeat music as you start to make the bed.
Singing along to the music cheerfully, you put the duvet in its cover. With both corners of the blanket in your hands you shake the cover over the duvet. With the music in both your ears you didn’t hear someone come in, so when you feel a hand on your shoulder, you are slightly startled. You quickly stop the music and take out your AirPods. You turn around to lay your eyes on a beautiful woman with coper locks flowing over her shoulders.
“You must be Y/n.”
Wanda knew who you were, your name would regularly come up in a conversation. She didn’t know much about you other than your name. You were kind of a mystery to her. She was new to the team and hadn’t personally met you yet. One thing is clear to her, though. No one bothered to mention how gorgeous you were. With a lump in her throat, she looked into your eyes, once you had turned around to face her. The woman that was standing in front of her seemed like a nice, cheerful person. She had a beautiful smile on her face, but there was something in her eyes that showed her happiness hadn’t always been a given. She took her in, her hair up in a high pony tail with curtain bangs accentuating her face, she was wearing an orange tank top, which showed off her tanned skin, on top of light flared jeans and elegant black ankle boots. Jeez, she was beautiful.
“Guilty as charge.” You responded. “It’s my pleasure meeting you…”
Witty too. You reminded her of her brother.
“Wanda.”
“Ah Wanda! Natasha told me so much about you. Nice to finally meet you. Oh, and Natasha said I could sleep here for the time being. Is that okay with you?”
Natasha talked about her? That was a good thing… right? To be honest Wanda was rather intimidated by Natasha. Even though she had been welcomed with open arms into the group, once, you know, she had switched sides, it had been quite hard for her to adjust to the group.
“Yeah, she told me. It’s fine”
“Cool”
“Do you need help with the bed?”
“Oh no, I’m done.”
She noticed the bed was nicely made and saw your weekend bag, half under your bed.
“You can use that dresser if you want, and if you want to hang any of your clothes, you can put them in my closet.”
“Oh thanks!”
“No problem.”
“I was about to start dinner, the rest should be back in an hour.”
“I’ll make sure I’ll be there on time, I wouldn’t want to miss whatever culinary art you intend to make.” You said teasingly.
“Great, I’ll see you in an hour then

Warnings: angst, past break up
Your real dad
-
Steve tightened his grip around your draw-string bag that he had convinced you to part ways with, as you, him and your mother made your way into the tower. He was dreading the reunion with Bucky after not seeing the team for about 2 weeks. You were practically bouncing on your feet to see your real dad. While Steve was there watching you treat your dad like a hero but not even spare him a glance.
Your family relationship was complicated yet simple at the same time: you hated your mom but tolerated her, loved your dad with all your heart, hated your stepdad as much as he tried, treated Peter like your brother and Thor exactly like your uncle.
Why did you hate your stepdad so much?
Well, first of all, he pretended like he was your real dad and tried to do all of the things with you that you and Bucky did together. Second, he always stole all your moms attention and made you feel like you were alone (whether he meant it or not)
The elevator door dinged, indicating that the three of you had reached your floor where currently Bucky, Thor, Tony, Natasha and Sam were hanging out, waiting for your “family”. The others were in the kitchen, trying to get a sneak taste of the food that had been ordered.
“Dad!” You yelled and raced up to the super soldier, he broke out into a grin and picked you up off the ground to invade you into a bone-breakinghug. “Hiya doll face.”
You grinned back at him and got down from his arms briefly to run across the room to retrieve your drawstring back so you could show your dad your new spiderman action figure that had been bought by your cousin Peter.
“Look! Look!”
He smirked slightly at your excited demeanour as you held up the toy as high as you could while jumping up and down for him to see. Once he’d figured out who the character was, you had already gone running off to see what Wanda and Vision had baked in one of the many kitchens.
“Hey Buck” Steve acknowledged as friendly as he could, it wasn’t that the two ‘friends’ hated each other, but there was definitely some tension in the room as the two sat parallel. Tony cleared his throat and mentioned something about having a cough as he quickly left the room.
“I better see where he got off to” Natasha and your mother said at exactly the same time, not wanting to experience what they thought was about to go down.
“Hi Steve” the older soldier greeted back, not sure what the intentions of the conversation were exactly. In the tower, the history between both soldiers and your mother was known but not really spoke of- Bucky dated your mother for quite a while (almost four entire years), and got her pregnant with you, but- as everybody was sure to know- all good things must come to an end- and the two broke up on good terms. That was before Steve Rogers himself got involved at a certain billionaire’s party when they realized they were (and this is in your mother's words) “meant for each other.”
“I’m erm, here to speak to you about something.” As if the awkwardness present in the room was no longer enough before, by now it was almost too much. Thor and Sam took the most obvious hint and left the room in search of something else to occupy their time.
“Well, you’re free to speak-“ Bucky was interrupted by the loud sound of laughing from behind the wooden door and almost instantly after a hushing sound. The two men had completely different reactions to this, Steve was utmostly confused, both eyebrows scrunching together, while Bucky’s face held a small smile. He knew exactly who was trying to eavesdrop and it just proved how much Steve did not know his stepdaughter from the fact he didn’t immediately know. “(Y/N),” he called out, the humour evident in his voice, “Parker, we know you're out there.”
“Awww, Peter you gave our secret identities up!”
By now Steve had caught on to the two of you and laughed lightly, trying to cover up the fact that his only chance to ask Bucky his question alone, was interrupted.
The wooden door creaked open, revealing Peter, dressed up in his spiderman suit for dramatic effect and you with a bandana on, which you thought made you look like a ninja and you held your action figure tightly in your left hand.
“(Y/N), you know it’s rude to eavesdrop” Steve scolded you, trying to be firm. You ignored him and shrugged your shoulders before going to follow the scent of Chinese food.
“Doll,” your dad stopped you “don’t ignore people, you know not to do that” he stood up from his spot on the sofa and began to also make his way to the kitchen, you right beside him muttering a small “okay dad.”
Steve tried not to let his heart sink as his best friend walked away. He would just have to try and get Bucky alone at another point in the night. If he didn’t get an answer, then he would have no use for the small box that was sitting in his trouser pocket.
“Bonjour,” Clint greeted the two of you as you both arrived for food, the island set up with enough plastic plates for everyone (Tony couldn’t be bothered with hiring people to wash normal, expensive ones multiple times a day)
Your mother smiled at you from the other side of the kitchen, but she was immediately confused when you didn’t smile back. The reason you had not, is because you had a feeling you knew exactly what question your stepdad had for Bucky and did not at all like the sound of it.
“Fries?” Bruce offered, tilting the box of food towards you. You nodded gratefully and grabbed a handful. The conversations at the table were mixed; Thor ranting passionately about the food at his home planet, Tony mumbling something about not even being hungry anyway (you thought he was just being salty since he didn’t get his Shawarma), Bucky and Sam having a silent argument across the table, and Peter was busy singing Christmas songs in his best Santa Claus voice.
“Have a holly jolly Christmas, and in case you didn’t seeeee” Natasha rolled her eyes dramatically at the teenager making everyone laugh.
“Hey don’t get annoyed at me! Everyone loves Christmas!”
You used to love Christmas before your parents separated and you weren’t allowed to spend the holiday with your dad.
“I don’t like Christmas,” your dad shrugged half mindedly while taking a sip of his soda. Peter looked at him like he had two heads and exclaimed in shock, “that impossible!”
“It ain’t kid,” Bucky chuckled while your mother shifted in her seat uncomfortably, realizing the reasoning.
While you worked your way through the pile of noodles, Thor’s incessant ranting came to an end, and the teenager had seemingly run out of songs, the group of superheroes decided to hang out in the living room and watch a movie before you, Steve and your mother had to go home.
“Which one?” Nat asked the room while holding up two movies, the nightmare before Christmas and the corpse bride. Both Halloween movies, neither particularly scary.
“How could one have a nightmare on the day before Christmas? Surely that is against the rules of the Holiday Christmas, that is based on happiness?” Thor asked, earning a quizzical look from you. “Stop tryna act like Shakespeare big man” Tony laughed while grabbing a handful of popcorn and shoving it all into his mouth.
Steve ignored the billionaire, and while no one seemed to be paying attention he directed his attention to Bucky, swallowing nervously. “Hey Buck, can I speak to you for a sec outside?”
Confusion spread over the soldier’s face for a split second before complying and getting up from the couch with Steve as discreetly as possible as to not raise suspicion from the rest of the team and you.
“What’s up?” He asked once they’d reached the hallway outside, he didn’t know what was up with the younger man but he could easily tell that he’d been acting nervous around himself and your mom.
“Um, I have a question, you don’t have to say yes or no or anything-“
“Your ranting.”
He stopped and thought for a second, wondering how to put it. “I know it’s been complicated recently, and I know this might make it worse with all your history with (Y/M/N) and (Y/N) but I really do love both of them and since (Y/M/N)’s parents passed a while ago, there’s no one to really ask for their blessing so I guess I’m here to ask you, can I have your blessing to propose to (Y/M/N)?”
Bucky stood emotionless for a second, not knowing how to react. He wasn’t sure whether to be happy for Steve and support him or to be angry. He had both reasonable attributes for each option but was cut short when he heard the sound of a door banging against its hinges on the floor above.
Both of your dad’s eyebrows scrunched together, who was that? Everyone in the tower knew not to do it because Tony despised it, and everyone with a brain knew that when Tony got annoyed, bad things happened.
Then almost instantly after the door entering the living room revealing an awkward Loki “I’m sorry to interrupt this conversation but your daughter slash stepdaughter, just ran upstairs in tears so if you could quickly wrap this little moment up, it would be greatly appreciated”
Bucky’s heart stopped, why were you crying?
He and Steve completely forgot about their previous conversation and quickly headed upstairs, nearly running Peter over in the process coming from the toilet. But just as they reached the door where you normally stayed when you came for sleepovers, Bucky stopped and put a finger to his lips.
“I think I should go in.” Instead of arguing, and saying that it would be good ‘bonding time’ to get you to like him, Steve silently agreed and let your dad go in.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he gently closed the door behind himself, instantly catching sight of you sat on the carpeted floor, furiously wiping your eyes with the sleeve of your hoodie.
“Hey, hey, don’t hurt yourself,” he took ahold of both of your wrists and set them down on your lap, “why’re you crying doll?”
Tears continued to stream unapologetically down your cheeks, you didn’t know how to tell him. That you had snuck out of the living room to see where the two had gone and then eavesdropped into their conversation, and once hearing your stepdad (who you did not like at all) was going to become a permanent part of your life, ran off crying.
“I don’t wanna talk about it” you shook your head, making him sigh. “Please tell me, I wanna know why. You trust me right (Y/N)?”
The simple nod was all he needed, yet his heart still ached. Seeing his only daughter in tears and didn’t trust him enough to tell him why? It was heartbreaking for him. “I don’t want him to marry mom,” you quietly admitted, “the only reason I’m still allowed to see you is because she thinks I still need a father figure, so now he’s gonna be here forever I won’t be- I won’t be able to see you anymore.”
He sighed deeply, trying to find a way to comfort you. “You will, I promise. I’ll always be apart of your life doll. No one can ever take you away from me because you're my daughter and I love you so so much, m’kay?”
You sniffled and wiped the final tears from your cheeks. “Okay.”
Before you could both get up and return downstairs to finish the movie, Bucky stopped you and lifted you up to whisper something to you.
Once he had finished you pulled back and nodded hesitantly, realizing that you should put your grudge behind you and face a fear.
Your dad and you returned outside, Steve waiting patiently while resting on the wall, gently smiling at you to make sure you were okay.
“Go on doll,” Bucky quietly urged, making you take a deep breath and just go for it.
“I give you my blessing to marry mom.” Steve’s heart skipped multiple beats as his brain tried to process what you had said. You’d finally accepted him into your life?
He broke out into a grin, trying to form words to thank you without seeming like this meant the absolute world to him. “Thank you (Y/N). I appreciate it so much.”
Bucky was proud of you for taking a leap and letting Steve into your life when you were scared. He realized at that moment that even if you did have a dad and a stepdad at the same time, he’d fulfilled his role already.

you said that you like receiving these asks so I wanted to ask a question (from a longtime lurker): why ironwidow? why not another ship? I mean we have like dozens of ships in the mcu, canon and non-canon, that have more time together on screen so why them? I think you have a gorgeous way of putting their relationship into words so I want to hear your thoughts...I ship them because their whole story in the mcu has the potential to be so damn romantic like honestly they started everything!!! It was them!!! Together!!! and then it ended with them together
I hope I phrased this well, I don't mean to come off as rude, I really like your works :)
hi anon! yes, i absolutely love these asks, and haha lurk away but always feel free to come chat! you phrased this perfectly well, not rude at all, don't worry! <3
so this is a really interesting question, and i'm going to answer it more personally than objectively, if you don't mind? though i think there are a lot of reasons that ironwidow makes sense like, narratively and character-arc-wise, i feel like i talk about that a lot.
okay, so the first thing you should know is that the first marvel movie i saw was avengers 1. no context. i saw it twice in theater because i was so in love. so it was always going to be two people in that movie, bc i fall quick and hard lol.
i tend to be a shipper of small moments - even in my bigger, more mainstream ships, i like to find the little moments - and honestly, nat and tony had so many little inside jokes in avengers 1. maybe equal with clintasha, which i relegated to brotp quickly because clint gave me married!dad energy. not that i anticipated aou! i just felt like he was meant to be the dad of the group. but yeah, the 'miss me, agent romanoff?' and the shrug at 'genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist' and 'i don't see how that's the party' and GOD 'c'mon stark' which might've been the deal-sealer. obviously, they had met before, and though i love pepper, the established relationship, girlfriend-of-the-hero trope does nothing for me. pepper was created for tony. natasha has always stood on her own.
i was also struck by one particular commonality that i think i've talked about: tony and natasha were the only ones who really wanted the avengers to happen in avengers 1. like, the team for the team's sake. clint = to back up nat, revenge; thor = loki's his brother; bruce = pretty much corralled by tony, reluctant af; steve = this one's harder, but he didn't show that faith in the team dynamic that tony/nat did. natasha's speech to clint - "we gotta stop him" ... "now you sound like you" "but you don't" ... i've been compromised" i've always interpreted that as her sudden need to be a part of this team - her ability to remain objective, alone, stoic - compromised. she wants this. tony's obvious - his relentless hope in bruce, that nat/clint/steve will follow him, he was putting these pieces together. so why not take it a step further? maybe they were the only ones who needed someone else who understood and saw the potential in a so called ticking time bomb.
that kind of love can fade for me, in a ship - but i watched the other movies, saw im2 and the press for it, and love love loved the ironwidow. i started writing fics around then. then i took a short break, but cacw broke me because the im2 parallels were right there. then, i got serious about writing fix-its for them, especially when i didn't really find the kind of fic i wanted to read when i was in pain after seeing that movie (i.e., the post-cacw tensions where either tony was the villain of the mcu or natasha needed to grovel on her knees for tony to forgive her). personally, i get really into fandoms where i feel like i can add value to a ship, and i felt like i could bring something new, good or not, to the table.
so yeah, some combination of all of that. and you're absolutely right about them starting and ending the mcu, but that was more the cherry on top for me!

ok so the hawkeye trailer came out and yay i cant wait so imma just write some of my opinions lmao-
RANDOM NOTE- since im in australia the trailer came out around midnight or whatever and i had christmas music stuck in my head as i was trying to sleep so yeah but it was worth it
THOUGHTS- clint and kate r such memes definitely nat and yelena vibes and the car scene i see so many parallels and im definitely going to have to edit them soon. hailee welcome to the mcu so far everything everyone has seen they adore as they should cause kate is 100% the worlds greatest archer im here for it. and the fact kate recognised hawkeye and lowkey fangirls and tries to show off pls she is definitely a huge nerd and im here for it. PIZZA DOG HELL YEAH IM SO READY. also captain america the musical is already iconic love that.
PLS I NEED THIS- im waiting for yelena to find clint (and definitely not kill him cause that would highkey ruin the point of nat sacrificing herself in the the first place) and for clint to give her back her vest bc I believe nat definitely would have talked to clint ab yelena and no way clint just left nats body at the bottom of that damn cliff (tbh i dunno if u can even get down there cause then he woke up and was just somewhere else on vormir but its fine for the sake of this we r pretending clint could get to nat jsjjsjs). anyways yeah so clint is gonna give yelena the vest and its gonna be adorable and yelena is gonna put her forehead against the vest just like she did to nat and the grave (and it’s gonna make for some much nicer plottwist edits lol) and nat will have written little notes or left little things in the pockets that reminded her of yelena or that kept her calm and happy while she fought and then yelenas gonna get to keep the vest, wear it all the time and do the same and the vest will essentially be the spirit of Nat watching over and protecting her as she and clint and kate kick ass.
^^^^ watch me manifest this even tho i know none of it is gonna happen cause marvel is set on destroying all my dreams. i also highly doubt any of that made much sense but i reckon u get the jist lol
side note: the world is not ready for the sheer force of florence pugh and hailee steinfeld
side note again: if we dont get nat references imma riot

BLACK WIDOW SPOILERS
Nyx! First off, the MOMENT i saw the pigs I thought about Amanda’s serum guinnea pigs 😂
Second, I would like to know your opinion on the two fake parents, specifically the fact that they were forgiven by Nat and Yelena. I know I’m reading a lot of my own abuse in them, but I’m finding that other people agree on the both of them being manipulative, without remorse and basically irredeemable. I hate the fact that they were forgiven, especially since the plot is to destroy the red room, only for the sisters to turn around and forgive the ones who sent them there 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s the only thing I dislike about an otherwise excellent movie. What do you think about it?
I will say first off, that I really wish we'd had more time to spend on the girls' relationship with the Melina and Alexei to really dig into some of this. But I did not have a problem with the forgiveness or the redemption, despite my own history of abuse. Because I think, in their own ways, Melina and Alexei were also abused/manipulated.
This got really long so, more under the cut.
Melina specifically says, when they're bugging out of Ohio, that she doesn't want to go. I think those three years being a family were probably the best years of their lives too. They did clearly care about the girls and in many ways raised them. Melina kept the photo album and Alexei has a tattoo of two roses with Natasha and Yelena's names under them.
The did not send the girls to the Red Room, the girls were in the Room before, that's why they were put in as spies. Nat tries to protect Yelena saying "she's only six" and Alexei says "You were younger" (This also means Yelena was 3 when the Ohio job started) These girls are clearly taken by Dreykov as toddlers to start training. Nat knows how to fly a plane and disarm a guard at ten. One could argue, I suppose, that they should have tried to prevent the girls from going back in, by Melina was on a stretcher bleeding out and Alexei was clearly drinking the Soviet Kool Aid at that time. Even if he'd tried, he probably just would have been killed and maybe gotten the rest of them killed too.
So let's dig into what they know about the "parents." Alexei seems to have been, essentially, a patriotic Russian, who was disillusioned and fell out of favor and then sent to a gulag. He was experimented on and became a super soldier, so there is an obvious Steve Rogers parallel to be made. Westerners probably balk at the idea of comparing a Soviet to Captain America but hey, it was his country and he was being told this was how it would be saved and become a global super power. Maybe he's a little gullible. Maybe he was grateful for becoming a super soldier. He sees his youth as his glory days and is striving to be good enough to have them again. I think, when he refers to their time as a family as boring, it's because he's had to diminish it in his mind as a protection. If he remembers it fondly, as a time in his life he was happy, then he can't be satisfied with the other parts of his life. He defines himself as the Soviet SuperSolider and acknowledging that being a suburban dad was better than that is destabilizing.
When he sees the girls, he immediately slips into Dad mode, even if they don't really want him to. He tries to give them multiple pep talks and tell them stories, but they're all colored by the life he lived. A life that was filled with violence and following the party line else he gets sent to prison, which he eventually was. Basically, it boils down to, I think Alexei wanted to be/thought he was a good loving dad, he's just sort of bad at it. Because his morals and priorities have been warped by a very strong propaganda machine, both from the Soviets, and Dreykov, but also his own mind. He remembers Yelena's favorite song, 20 years later, enough to sing it with her. (A song with the word America in it!) How many times did he hum that to himself in prison, and think about the glimpse of a normal life he had?
Melina is both trickier and more straight forward. She's a Black Widow, from a very, very young age, like Nat. She tells her she'd done 4 rounds in the Red Room before Nat was even born. God knows how many different kinds of programming and re-programming she's had. Her and Bucky could probably trade stories. (And you have to wonder, why 4? Did she rebel a few times and need some refreshers?) She's also clearly a brilliant scientist. So eventually she learned to behave, do what she's told and maybe she'll get a smidgeon of freedom, a moment of peace. That's like, the definition of an abuse victim. Like she says, she was born in a cage and never saw a way out. She's a direct parallel/shadow to Nat. She's what Nat would have been if she hadn't met Clint and gotten out. A brilliant woman ground under the heel of an abuser until it was too late to see any other way. And the instant she learns that what she taught Nat mattered, that she had some small part in Nat being able to escape and have a life, she turns on the Red Room and risks her life to take it down.
At its core, Black Widow is about abuse victims - in different stages of abuse/recovery - taking down their abuser with extreme prejudice. Nat is out of the abuse, she's recovered, she's created a life and friends/family away from it, but is willing to put herself at risk to prevent him from hurting others. Yelena is newly out, just learning what that means and very much at risk of falling back in. Alexei had been abandoned by his abuser and is still so much under his sway he wants back in, because it's safe and familiar, but when the girls offer him a better way he takes it, for the chance to be free for good. Melina, Taskmaster, and all the current Widows are still in the abusers control, too afraid or institutionalized, or just plain tired, to fight back. In the end it takes all of them, in big and small ways, to burn Dreykov alive in a crashing helicopter. And that's really beautiful

Keeping my fingers crossed for that Black Widow meta
Aha, okay. As usual, I am ludicrously easy to enable, so let's take a crack at this. The ask obviously contains SPOILERS for the Black Widow film (and is also tagged "black widow spoilers" if you're planning to filter), and discussion/reference to other films/properties in the MCU, though I don't feel like any of those are still a secret.
Anyway, as I said in my earlier post, I can't believe I am actually still trying to critically analyse a Marvel production in the year of our Lord 2021, but then, I feel like we all have a complicated relationship with it. Likewise, the feeling of "oh wow NOW you're giving Natasha a solo movie after you killed her off in a cheap and fairly sexist way in Endgame?" If this film had come out ten or even five years ago, it would have been major, but holding it off until now seems to have left most of us justifiably unimpressed. Plus, as I am absolutely not the first person to point out, it renders Natasha's sacrifice in Endgame "because I don't have a family" even more narratively incoherent. I realize that this film was written after that one by totally different people, there's no point in expecting the MCU to make consistent canonical sense throughout its eighty billion different films/series, we were all stuck with a mess after the Whedonified Age of Ultron Nat, and so forth, but still. Natasha explicitly SAYS that she has two families (her wacky Russian found family of spies and the Avengers) and her decision to leap off the cliff in Endgame to save Clint and his retconned perfect white heterosexual nuclear family.... Hmmmm. To which I say to you, I do not bite my thumb at you, sir, but I do bite my thumb at Male Writers, sir.
Likewise, while I am wildly attracted to Florence Pugh as Yelena and deeply desire to be wrapped between her thighs, the movie felt more like her story than Nat's. Yelena drove most of the plot and the action, while Nat was just kind of along for the ride. As a solo piece, we really didn't learn that much about Natasha aside from the opening scene (which felt like it was straight out of The Americans and probably worked the best of the whole film for the reason) with her childhood in America. But even the infamous "what happened in Budapest" backstory with her and Clint was quickly info-dumped rather than shown, and they could have taken more narrative risks or included more flashbacks or otherwise given us more NATASHA, y'know??? Instead of cramming the film into the small space between Civil War and Infinity War and making it even weirder that Nat seemingly has no memory or reference to these events when she returns to the team at that time. Why not show her looking for Yelena or her actual defection to the Avengers or anything else we might want from a film that purportedly exists entirely to provide backstory for a now-dead character? It felt like even in the film universe, the main quest was being repeated -- she tried to kill Baddie McSoviet once before and it didn't work out, so she has to do it again, something something. Okay.
As for that, good ol' Marvel and its American Superiority TM. The only actual Eastern European actress in this film about Eastern Europeans was Antonia/Taskmaster, played by the Ukrainian Olga Kurylenko (and I was very interested in her?? If she's supposed to be a narrative foil and a ghost of Nat's past and mark of her former sins, etc., why not develop her as an actual character?) Everyone else were Brits and Americans hamming it up with even more chew-the-scenery fake Russian accents than Elizabeth Olsen's "Sokovian" accent as Scarlet Witch. If it's established that they all have perfect American accents at the start of the movie, why is Nat the only American-accented character in the modern day if she had presumably the exact same childhood as Yelena? I know it's another way to set her apart, but that and Baddie McSoviet (the Russians are finding a way to steal free will from people's brains! Zomgz!!! Is this 2021 or 1981?) were straight out of the Cold War in terms of its not-so-veiled American Supremacy Message. Likewise, making modern!Natasha a former KGB agent never really made sense, since she says in Winter Soldier that she was born in 1984, and we see her in this film as an 11-year-old in 1995. But the USSR collapsed in 1991, when she was seven, and the Red Room appears to be an entirely unrelated flying....lab....thingy run by a generic evil Russian (Ray Winstone, likewise Hamming Up Accent). So like. What is she, guys?? Make up your minds!!!
Likewise, Baddie McSoviet/Dreykov as a villain obviously plays into the hoary old Hollywood "All Bad People Are Recognizable As Being Terrible Sexists and Also Probably Russians" trope, but aside from that, he doesn't make sense. He has this entire army of basically unstoppable Widows and he has just been.... waiting around and causing random explosions? Or was just waiting for Nat and company to return so he could Put His Evil Plan Into Motion? Are we really supposed to believe that this guy has just been sitting up in his flying saucer and essentially never doing anything this whole time? He had about a million chances to launch this take-over-the-world plan long before Natasha ever got there. Plus, I.... am.... not sure what to think (aside from /deep sigh/ MARVEL) about the fact that all the Widows we see dying/getting killed on screen are women of color. (Then the Black surgeon who was about to remove Yelena's brain in the Red Room and the only other Black guy being Natasha's errand boy, which just... in context... YIKES.) I think the fact that there are random Black background Widows are supposed to mean that they're inclusive and badass or something? Scarlett Johansson also has her own issues with White Feminism and all the other things we've critiqued her for before, so after TFATWS and the Flag Smashers, Marvel clearly has found its subtly racist sweet spot. As usual?
The end of the film also just basically turns into the standard Marvel empty-spectacle/cool-looking fights/people flying through the air thing, and I wanted a lot more focus on the wacky found-family Russian-spy hijinks (I did love them, for reasons) and character dynamics, rather than all of them separately fighting baddies in different places. I did obviously have feelings about Natasha putting the parachute on Yelena to save her life. But why were we then denied Nat/Gamora parallels/relationships/any character development or interaction at all in Infinity War/Endgame? Both of them are trained assassins adopted into a non-biological family that they have a complicated relationship with, but end up forging a strong bond with their sister (Yelena/Nebula) nonetheless. Of course, that would have required Endgame to put more effort into its female characters than what it did, which was one (1) Epic CGI Charge Scene at the very end, and literally nothing else. Not that I am still salty about this or anything.
Anyway. The movie was genuinely fun in places. The wacky Russian found family of spies was definitely the best part, even if it made Endgame even more nonsensical as a result. But I wanted this movie to be a lot better than it was overall, though I probably would have liked it more if it had actually come out in a timely fashion and wasn't only released after they killed her off. It just feels like there were so many possible threads of potential that could have been done with Natasha if they were actually interested in experimenting and exploring the character and not just coming up with new baddies and ways to go boom, and it unfortunately missed the mark with that.

SAM IS THE GOOD MAN WHILE STEVE AND WALKER ARE THE SAME EXACT PERSON!
one can even argue Karli Steve and Walker are so alike to the point of them thinking what they are doing is for the greater good, Karli thinks what’s she’s doing is to save the world even killing Lamar and those people when she didn’t need, steve was fighting tony to point of him almost killing him to save his friend even when he didn’t need to fight tony but just tell tony the truth and the accords that btw are in progress now thanks to tony and team iron being right all along steve was thinking like Karli about going to whatever country they felt like going to try and help and walker took justified revenge for his best friend dying he’s more human the the two who ended up doing those thing when they didn’t need to while he did out pure rage!
the show is showing us that Sam is the only one who truly was/is good man worthy of the shield and that Steve/walker are two sides of the same coin the fact sam is holding his punches in fight while Steve wasn’t just shows that Sam was the good man while Steve was trying to be good man but was in the end perfect soilder! they say the serum makes bad people worse and you don’t need a serum or shield to be worthy of the mantle captain America or the shield! Why sam should just burn the shield!
Let’s not forget the fact Sam still tried reasoning with Karli even after she threatened his sister and his nephews he could have gone crazy jumped her like Steve did tony but he didn’t! this is why Sam is the only good man!
I’ll make a whole list of parallels that show how wrong bad trash and just horrible Steve is like this and how always makes the worst mistakes and hot takes! this showing steve constantly making the wrong choice while Sam always makes the right choice steve added wanda to the team knowing she joined hydra aka a natzi organization voluntarily and after what she did to bruce in Africa and tony calling her kid when she’s almost 30 here so she shouldn’t be hold accountable for her actions! In conclusion fuc*k steve rogers. DONT PEOPLE EVER COMPARE HIM TO SAM OR WENDY GROWN WOMAN TO KARLI A KID A 17 YEAR OLD TRAMUA CHILD!
LETS TALK ABOUT HOW MCU STANS mainly stave wanda stevebuckies white stans AND MCU WRITERS NEVER HOLDING WANDA AND STEVE ACCOUNTABLE OR EVEN TALKS ABOUT THEIR MANY HORRENDOUS AWFUL UNFORGIVABLE ACTIONS! when will we talk?
there’s 2 types of people
you can lose everyone and everything becomes a psychopath start torturing and killing people: wanda zemo karli steve walker clint nat
the others who try finding a way to get them back or accepts and moves on to do good: sam thor scott rhodey peter monica peter

Hawkeye show: What if we kept making each episode better and better?
Me: That seems unlikely.
Hawkeye show: Episode 5 :D :D
Me: x.x
One thing I think the Hawkeye show has done better than FATWS did is emphasizing how much Clint isn't actually trying to kill Yelena or Maya or most of these people. That's why he's nowhere near as effective in the fights with them; he's making every effort to stay on top without producing maiming or killing blows.
FATWS struggled on this somewhat as it regards Bucky, I think due to lack of really talking about it as directly as Hawkeye has. It made Bucky look unskilled, as opposed to especially Episodes 4 and 5 of Hawkeye, where's it's obvious if Clint wanted to he'd have taken care of most of these people in short order. Like Bucky he has a lot more experience killing people, years wise, nonstop, than most of the rest of the characters (and unlike Yelena or Maya has the benefit of training with Natasha all those years). Even Yelena admits that the trail of bodies he left in his wake is impressive.
And yet they don't make Yelena or Maya look unskilled or incapable in showing this about Clint. They aren't made to suffer to prop him up. Maya catches Clint by surprise and nearly kills him (which rattles him, as we see in the Uber ride; he was trying to help her, instead of the more expedient thing, and it almost costs him). There's a little suggestion of Yelena being, like Kate, wildly over-confident and blinded by anger and grief over losing Nat, (a lovely parallel with Maya and Clint both, actually--grief and anger blinding them to reality), but otherwise she holds her own in a confusing, multiperson fight.
It's some very deft storytelling and it's not easy to pull off the nuance of 'older, experienced character a doesn't want to cripple or kill characters b and c, who want to kill them and are very capable, chaos ensues' without making any of a, b, or c look like a fuckup. They're managing it very well and I love it.
Numerous other people have also mentioned how Clint's entire life is defined by all these powerful women in it, which is a wonderful change from many other characters like him. It's not men who are shaping his interactions, it's women: Natasha, Laura, Kate, Eleanor, Maya, Yelena. Men are problems for all of them, but his entire story has been about these women. The only man to really come into it in a meaningful way has been Kingpin.
And I think we've got about all the confirmation we need at this point that a) the watch is Laura's, b) she was a Mockingbird-esque or Widow-like character. Joss Whedon denied us Clintasha, so instead Laura is, well, very much like Natasha. Of course I'd rather have just had Clintasha but as that's no longer on the table this is a fun alternative: saving Nat wasn't some one-off, it was Clint's past interactions with a woman paying forward into his behavior.
Just like with Kate.
Not kidding this series has been payoff after payoff.
ps Disney if anything happens to Grills I'm coming for you I don't fucking care about comics canon.
pps I mean we all knew it was Kingpin but I'm very happy to see him. Charlie Cox arm truthers win. :)

Old Friends- Natasha Romanoff
Tumblr media
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x Reader
Characters: Natasha Romanoff
Warnings: Mentions of the Red Room
Request: Wattpad- Natasha x red room reader
Word Count: 584
Author: Charlotte
You took a sip of your coffee, giving your friend a smile. The two of you hadn’t seen each other since you were children, but having gone through so much together, it felt only right to meet up to discuss how time had faired for both of you.
“You look well,” you smiled. “Better than before.”
She nodded her head.
“You look well too. It’s nice to see you smile, no one ever smiled,” she said softly.
“Natalia, we were weapons, smiling took too much time out of their plans,” you chuckled.
She lifted her mug to her lips. “It is Natasha now, I needed to burn as many ties as I could back to the red room. I am glad to have a positive life now, so many of us never got the chance.”
The two of you had been trained in The Red Room together by the KGB to be the best weapons that they could ever think of having, no emotion, no other cares, just focusing on the mission before you.
“It is so odd to think how far we have come since then. I never could have imagined I could be the woman I am today, living in America, married with a child, it’s not what they taught us to want but I always wanted that and I have it now,” you smiled warmly thinking of your husband and daughter whom were both at home currently.
Natasha gave you a warm and joyous smile.
“You are married? And have a child? How wonderful,” she smiled. “What is your child’s name? How old are they?
“Y/D/N Natalia Y/S/N, she just turned two last week, she is my world,” you said unable to hide how happy you were currently.
“Does your husband know?” She asked.
“Yeah,” you nodded. “It was hard to explain to an accountant from Missouri that I had been an assassin for the KGB, but he oddly took it well. He also didn’t care about me being sterile, we adopted our little girl and she is as much my daughter as if I birthed her myself.”
Natasha let out a little laugh. “You have gone to two parallels, being a stay at home mum after being an assassin.”
You nodded, understanding how peculiar it was to think that a decade ago you were taking orders to kill people, but now you spent your days playing games with your daughter and watching Disney films.
“What do you do now?” You asked.
“I work for S.H.I.E.L.D.,” she stated. “I am an agent.”
“Of course,” you grinned. “You were always the best of us, it wouldn’t seem right that you would do anything but continue fighting, at least this time for the better.”
“They wanted me to be killed, luckily they sent an agent, Clint, who didn’t agree and pitied me. He’s the reason I am alive and got a second chance. He thought my corner until I was able to show that I could help them rather than fight them.”
“Are you two…?” You asked not sure how to phrase it.
“Oh no,” Natasha interjected. “He is like a brother to me. He is married and has three lovely children, I am happy being Auntie Nat.”
“Well that’s good because you have another niece now. I have told her all about you, she probably can’t recall any of it, as unless it involves singing animals, she doesn’t care much, but I’ve always wanted you to meet her.”
“I would love that.”

What If...? 1x08 Thoughts
Oh... Oh, this episode fucks! Yes, I love where this went. It is great and there are so many things to ponder. I almost don’t know from where to start. All the episodes and the threads that were clearly running through them are finally coming together and I just hope they can pull it together for the last episode as well because this one was so good.
So at the end of last episode that was actually Ultron and not Vision. The second they said that it became quite clear where he came from in last episode. He clearly crossed from one universe into another. It was just a matter of how that was going to happen and I loved where they took the story. I have to say that I didn’t really expect that The Watcher will be an actual character in any of the stories but it makes perfect sense and answers some questions that were posed earlier in the season.
I love that we get a discussion here of the fact that The Watcher was just observing how countless lives were lost without interfering. Ultron is clearly not the good guy here since he’s the one destroying everything in his path but he almost seems to care more about ending suffering than The Watcher does. But I think the one thing that Ultron does not understand is hope for a better future. That has been a plot thread running through the entire season and I find the direction in which they are taking it interesting.
The Watcher seemed content to leave the fate of the universes to the hope that they will figure it out (which clearly didn’t work in the case with Dr Strange) but once his own existence was threatened (along with the entire multiverse), it was suddenly time to start acting. As if simply hoping for the better is not enough. It is an interesting balance between having the faith that things will get better but also the drive to actually act in order to make them better. Because hope alone can not work without action taken to improve the state of the world. You need both and I find it very interesting that that seems to be a lesson that The Watcher is learning after his passiveness has been indirectly teaching it to the people in the multiverse. (Ngl I kinda expect to see Hope Vandom in that last episode, though, since the topic of hope was always tied to her in the previous episodes.)
And this leads back to Ultron and his inability to comprehend hope. He has all the drive to act and none of the faith in a better future that is not born only of his own actions. It’s kinda like he’s trying to micromanage the multiverse but he has no faith whatsoever in anyone else’s abilities and that’s why he’s decided the only way to end suffering is to kill everyone. A rather ironic position for him to take considering that his entire existence is defined by the existence of others. Once he’s completed the mission of establishing peace (aka killing everyone), he is left without a purpose and in a deep state of despair (which is the opposite of hope, and it’s fascinating that he can understand that but not hope). It makes him the perfect foil to The Watcher who leans so far into hope that he doesn’t take action and I am really looking forward to seeing where this will go.
I am also super glad to see Natasha and Clint here. I have to admit that I was very hurt by the Avengers: Endgame parallel that crept up on me out of nowhere here (though, I guess it wasn’t really out of nowhere). I love how in character Clint and Natasha were here and how they fit super well into the overall theme of the episode. The difference between their paths in Endgame and in this episode is exactly hope. In Endgame Clint lived because Nat gave him hope that he will have the family he lost back but here that is not an option (at least seemingly) so he gave up. Nat, on the other hand, kept going because that was where hope for the future lay. In Endgame she sacrificed herself because that was their only hope of bringing back everyone but here they can save the world only if she keeps fighting so she does. Even when Clint left the fight.
I find it fascinating how they’ve woven their theme of hope throughout the entirety of this episode and am very excited for the last one. Fingers crossed that they won’t manage to destroy it completely.
