dta and so says the sword and cinderwings and redemption road (which I haven’t read in too, too long - what a fucking incredible show of fandom. thinking about it in awe) are all both canon (subjective) and excellent works of literature displaying the best a fandom has to offer (objective) hope this helps

i'm currently fucked in the head (emotionally) and am considering reading some supernatural fanfics and I fear that's a bad idea
it seems every "classic" supernatural fanfic is tragic/ends in pain and I don't know if I can handle that, but that's also what is drawing me into reading it I think.
I know the plot of twist and shout and I don't think I want to get into that right now, partly because I don't want despair for the sake of despair. Also someone wrote it has a pretty cliched depiction of ptsd, and one of my biggest writing turn offs
I'm thinking of ninety one whiskey, but that might also end in heartbreak, and I'm incapable of quitting reading something once I'm into it, so maybe not good idea either.
Down to Agincourt/Map of the World seems really cool conceptually and it's endverse which is sorta based in canon/not that AU which I like. But I've heard it's not fully finished and some people said it's written a bit confusingly. Also Endverse is sorta depressing too.
I'm still not sure if I want to fuel this feeling I'm currently stuck in by reading sad/depressing/dark stuff. But also I'm not sure if I'd feel immersed reading something cheery.
AU's like Four Letter Word for Intercourse / The Dean Winchester Beat Sheet seem cool and I will definitely be reading them eventually, but I feel like they fall into the 'too cheerful to feel right for me right now' category, and I'm also not much of a school AU fan. It reminds me of reylo for some reason 😂😂
The happy medium seems to be So Says The Sword or The Path of Fireflies because they're linked to canon and don't seem to be like... grimdark/depressing type emotional...

all angels are trans. the fact that they temporarily inhabit a human form does not limit their identity to their bodies. they TRANScend gender.

and ssts, utms and tfk?
so says the sword by komodobits (s4 au in which dean and cas meet in the beautiful room instead of hell, 85k) under the midnight sun by northernsparrow (excellent au about dean and cas in alaska, 232k) and the forever king by seperis (master of the pit dean au from down to agincourt that fries your brain in insane ways, 27k)

Just finished reading So says the sword on Ao3. I gotta say, when Cas started talking in italian I almost had a heart attack. First, 'cause the grammar is really good. Second, because it's so weird for me to read in my own native language???????

been thinking a lot about dean seeing cas' true form lately. might write a fic where he falls to his knees crying shaking and throwing up after being in the presence of the divine. will update later.
