[Eng Subs DL] Musical Yuukoku no Moriarty (Moriarty the Patriot) Op. 4 - "The Two Criminals"

Hello, and Merry Christmas to those who celebrate~! Otherwise, Happy Holidays! I am here to share the English subtitles for more MoriMyu~!

Oh gosh, I apologize for such a long wait...! Life just punched me around a bit with studying for board exams (which I passed, thankfully!), a bit of technical problems with the BD version, and a lot of real life things I needed to take care of before the year ends (￣▽￣*)ゞ

Op. 4 covers chapters 33-47 of the original comic, with a few scenes/moments omitted. It is essentially the build-up to the climax of the story that was covered in Op. 5! We were also blessed with the addition of Miss Mary Morstan and Adam Whiteley for this musical, and I hope everyone falls in love with them, too~!

Anyway, here are the subs~! A huge, huge thank you to @mouldering for helping me with proof-reading and quality checking! I wouldn't have been able to finish this before Christmas without your help~! ♡ ～('▽^人) I will be updating the folders with the bonus content subtitles when I am able to as well, but for now, please enjoy the main show's subs~!

NOTES:

※ THE FILE IS SUBTITLES ONLY, VIDEO IS NOT INCLUDED! ※ The folder contains subs for a DVD version as well as a Blu-ray version! (I tested the DVD version on the BD a lot of times, and there was always a slight delay with the syncing, so I re-timed and re-styled it for the BD. You could technically load the DVD subs onto the BD, but you'd have to manually adjust the timing on your media player.)

All songs and lyrics were translated by me. A bit of creative liberty was exercised to fit context and some cultural references. As usual, the lyrics actually help move the plot, so I didn’t include the romaji for any of them. But, if you’d like to have the complete lyrics, I do have them saved up in PDF form, so feel free to DM me for them if you want ^^

Again, I’m not a native British English speaker, so some terms might be off. I consulted with a friend to help me check them, just in case, but please forgive any mistakes.

As usual, some scenes in the musical differ from the anime/manga for time and fluidity’s sake, so please don’t hit me for things that I can’t control ^^;

There aren’t particularly any triggering scenes here, but please do watch with caution since some subjects and terms used might be sensitive and/or triggering for other viewers.

Hello Sky! I've been following you for years, thank u so much for your work. BUT, and I don't know how to tell u this without sounding rude.. I really miss your oldstyle gifs. The current ones are too big and sometimes too cropped, and on PC don't look that good. Sometimes they're so big that take too long to load, especially in a large set. I wish that, once in a while, u would do a set like old times (I can't put a link here to show an example, but 2018-2019 setgifs)

ok, now lets talk about my gifs~ 2019 was the year I came back from my hiatus and I had literally forgotten how to gif. I was on hiatus that year focusing on my studies so I didn't even think about make gifs.

my gifs had nothing "special" about them. it was just a regular gif. it didn't have something that represented me. I felt that I wanted to have something special in my gifs that could make even other people look at it and instantly identify that the gifset was mine. so for me to do that i kept changing my colouring and my sharpen style. but I was never satisfied, i wasn't happy with how my gifs looked. so i remembered about topaz clean and denoise and i decided to install them and use them in my gifs, but as always, i didn't go after tutorials. I was just using it on my gifs as I thought it would look nice but it didn't and I didn't realize it until much later. the topaz effect was too extreme.

so after doing that i thought i would then make a base colouring that i could use and then just change a few things. but that I could always use this base to have a ~gif style~.

but again i wasn't happy with my gifs. so i started to think, maybe i could get some inspiration from other accounts. I've always been very passionate about the style that most movies gifmaker have. and what they most have in common is big gifs, and then I started trying to make big gifs too. but it's not as easy as it seems. as most bangtan videos have a 1080p quality and it's not always that good, making big gifs wouldn't always look nice. but still I tried. i thought with topaz i could try to fix the quality of my gifs. so i did.

what i wanted to make clear in my gifs was that they were only focusing on the person i was giffing. so I always cropped as much as I could to make the person very centered in my gifs. that the person was my gif and not part of the gif, do you understand what I mean? 😅

but i still wasn't so happy with my gifs. I still thought that I was overdoing the topaz too much and that my colourings weren't that nice. so I'm still testing what I could do to change that and be more satisfied with my gifs. I love topaz but it doesn't always bring the result I want. but it helps me a lot in videos that the quality is much lower that even 480p. like here:

without topaz the quality of these gifs would look terribly ugly. but I still didn't feel like I found a setting that I really liked.

but after a long time trying to find it, i reached a point where i started to be happy with my gifs. I started to see that I don't need a "ready" setting, that each video's setting has to be different, that I don't need to make a colouring base, but work on the gif from scratch.

now i look at my gifs and i'm satisfied with how they look. don't think they look as ugly as before. and even with different settings and different colourings style, i think i have my own style. they look different but still got my style on them. I think that even without looking at my watermaker there are people who do recognize my gifs. I think I have my own style now.

I wish you could somehow send me the link to the gitsets you're talking about so I can have some examples of them. maybe like this jung-koook (.)tumblr(.)com/post/713740586334732288?

I am really happy that you came here to talk to me about this, but i really like how my gifs look now. maybe i might not make big gifs anymore when i add more than 10 gifs because in the app its really hard to reblog that kind of set, right. most of my gifs from 2019 are extremely ugly in my opinion. namjoons set example is one of the few that doesn't look ugly. so it's not something I wanted to go back to. :/ but again, thank you for coming here to share your opinion about my gifs in a nice way without being rude. constructive criticism is always good, right? again, if you can show me the example of this right here "sometimes too cropped" I will be very grateful. ♡

✨ BEFORE WE BEGIN,

I'd like to mention the obvious that my process is just one way to create a gif. What I do works best for me, and for beginners out there you might find later on that a different method suits you as you get familiarized with PS’s basic tools and functions. The important thing is you start somewhere.

So let’s get started!

✨ IMPORTANT NOTES

- Use high quality footage for gif-making. Whether it’s from a game, show or movie, you want the best you can get. The quality should be 720p at the very least. Lower quality footage can be frustrating to work with if you're just starting out. And in general, really.

- With the method I’ll be outlining, Photoshop will accept videos in .mp4 and .avi format. For game footage, these are the formats you’ll likely see the most.

- I use Nvidia ShadowPlay to record my own in-game footage which saves directly into .mp4 format. Software such as Bandicam and OBS are good, free recording alternatives that do the same.

- For downloading HQ videos from YT, I’d suggest 4k Video Downloader. 4k's free version has the option to save videos in .mp4 format.

- I use Windows and bum the latest version of Photoshop off of aesfocus but previously worked with CS5 for 8+ years. The same tools used in this tutorial are available in previous versions of PS.

- This post displays tumblr's current dimensions for gifs if you don't want them showing up fuzzy/blurry on the dashboard.

- Tumblr’s file size upload limit for each gif is currently 10MB.

✨ BONUS ACTION

With her permission, I’m very happy to provide my bestie aesfocus’ custom action for use which can be downloaded here! This action includes beautiful, subtle corrective image adjustments. I’ve been using this on every gif I’ve made over the past few months.

To set up this action:

Go to Window > Actions

Click the quadruple bar symbol (≣) to top right of the Action box

> Load Actions

Find the saved aes_gif.atn file

Load

Hit the play button (▶︎)

And you’re done! Until you either unselect or delete this action, it will be automatically applied to all video footage you load into Photoshop. Including what you’ll be creating!

✨ STEP 1 - VIDEO TIMELINE

1.) Go to Window > Timeline

Make sure what pops up is a video timeline (aka animation timeline), not frame animation. If you see the symbol below, then it means you're currently in frame animation. Click the symbol to convert to video timeline. (If you’re a Mac user, a similar button should be in the bottom right corner of the timeline.)

2.) Drag the .mp4/.avi video file from its location on your computer and drop it into Photoshop.

3.) In the upper right corner of the Timeline, click the quadruple bar symbol (≣) and go to > Set Timeline Frame Rate.

For a smooth and nicely paced frame rate, I usually stay somewhere between 20 to 24. If you’re doing a close-up gif of someone speaking, I’d suggest setting it to a slower speed of 18 or 19. (But be free to test different speeds!)

The higher the frame rate, the smoother the gif. However, the file size greatly increases as you get close to 60, so keep that in mind.

✨ STEP 2 - SETTING UP YOUR WORK AREA

1.) With the footage loaded and prepped, the next step is finding and carving out what you want to turn into a gif. I’ll refer to this as the work area. The work area is set by what footage is between the two slideable 'bumpers' shown below.

If you’re on a Mac or using an old version of PS, the timeline and button positions will look a little different but the functions are the same.

These bumpers will indicate where the gif will start (front bumper) and end (back bumper). Once you know what portion of the footage you'd like to make into a gif, we’ll cut and delete everything else outside the bumpers. What’s between the bumpers is your precious cargo.

Drag the playhead (attached to the red marker) at the top of the Timeline around. This will allow you to preview the loaded footage and help you determine where you're going to place the bumpers.

Try not to put too much footage into your work area if you're just starting out. The lengthier the gif is, the larger the file size. Remember, when the gif is saved it must be under 10MB in order for tumblr to upload it.

2.) Move the playhead to the left until the red marker is at the beginning of the work area where the gif will start (the front bumper). Click on the scissor icon to the left to cut the footage. Click on the unwanted footage that was cut and delete it.

3.) Move the playhead to the right until the red marker is at the end of the work area (the back bumper). Click the scissor icon to cut the unwanted footage, select it, then delete it.

4.) You should be left with your work area on a single layer. Select the work area and drag it to the left on the Timeline, until the start of it is under 00.

✨ STEP 3 - SIZING THE IMAGE

This step can be fiddled with as it's dependent on what size gif you'd like to make. In this example, let’s make a gif that's 540px wide.

1.) Right click the top of the file (or ALT+CTRL+I) to bring up Image Size. Here we'll only change the image Width to 600px and hit OK. (This will give us wiggle room when you decide what you want to crop.) CTRL+1 to bring the canvas to its new full size. (or hold ALT and use your mouse’s scroll wheel to zoom in/out)

After you change the image size, the footage layer (Layer 1) is automatically turned into a Smart Object with a Smart Filter applied. (You can double check this by going to Filter and seeing if the > Convert for Smart Filters option is greyed out. If by chance it's not greyed out, go ahead and convert it.)

SUPER FUN FACT!: Applying a Smart Filter is essential to making gifs. It acts as masking that protects your layer from irreversible change. When converting anything for Smart Filters, any filter you add (sharpening, blurring, etc.) can be adjusted/moved/deleted at any time - even after you save and exit PS! Without the Smart Filter, anything you do directly to the footage layer will be permanent and cannot be undone once you close the file.

✨STEP 4 - CROPPING

1.) Select the Crop tool from the toolbar to the left (C key). You'll notice white borders pop up around the canvas. Click and drag any part of the white border to adjust the crop preview.

Hold CTRL+left click on an outer corner for smoother scaling.

Feel free to drag the footage around within the crop preview to frame it as you see fit.

2.) As you move the border of the crop preview, you should see a small dialogue box following your cursor that tells you the current Width and Height of the current preview area. Since we're making a gif 540px wide, we'll adjust the selection to match that and set the height to whatever you prefer. When you're satisfied with the sizing, doubleclick the area within the preview box to crop. (Or go to Image > Crop)

It's beginning to look like something!

3.) To exit the Crop tool, click the Move tool or hit the V key.

✨STEP 5 - ADDING FILTERS

This step will go over one way to sharpen and lightly blur a gif. We’ll use the Unsharpen Mask to start, (Ironic name, I know) though a common filter used for sharpening is the Smart Sharpen option. I tend to use Unsharpen most often.

1.) With the Smart Filter already having been automatically applied earlier, it’s safe to go ahead and add the Unsharpen filter. While having the gif layer selected, go to Filter > Sharpen > Unsharpen Mask and use the following settings:

Amount: 200 Radius: 0.4 Threshold: 1

Hit OK when done.

Under your Layers tab in the dock to the right, you'll now see the Unsharp Mask beneath your Smart Filter layer mask.

If you click the edit filter button to the right of Unsharp Mask (that look like two arrows between two lines), it'll bring up Blending Options. From here, you can adjust the opacity of your sharpening filter and set a blend mode if you want. For the sharpening we'll leave the opacity alone and keep the mode as Normal.

2.) Now we're going to apply a slight blur filter to sit atop the sharpening. Go to Filter > Blur > Box Blur, set the Radius to 2px and hit OK.

3.) Click on the edit filter button to the right of the Box Blur filter to get to the Blending Options. For this filter, set the Opacity to 45%. If you're working with dark footage, set the Blend to Screen. If the footage has plenty of light and colors, try setting it instead to Overlay. Hit OK.

This will give your sharpening a light softened halo/smeared light effect. Click the eye button to the left of Box Blur to hide the filter if you don't want it, or you can right click on Box Blur > Delete the Smart Filter.

✨STEP 6 - ADJUSTMENT LAYERS

1.) Now that we have filters applied, we'll add our first adjustment layer. Click on the black and white circle > Levels

2.) Below the histogram you'll see three arrows: the darkest arrow to the left, the mid-range grey arrow, and lighter arrow to the right. Move these arrows around only slightly to test how it effects the tonal range. I find that a Levels layer cleanly balances shadows more than anything, particularly with footage or images that are quite dark.

3.) Click again on the black and white circle > Color Balance

4.) On the Color Balance layer, the first tone you can adjust is Midtones by default. Under the dropdown list, you'll see an option for Shadows, Midtones and Highlights. For each Tone, move the sliding arrows around - again, only slightly - to see how it effects the colors of the footage. This is a great tool for color correction.

Similar to Color Balance, Selective Color and Channel Mixer are great color-focused adjustment layers to experiment with.

Curves is also a handy adjustment layer that will effect the tonal range of your gif, similar to Levels.

5.) Before the gif is saved, it’s important to look over the Timeline to make sure that each layer is evenly parallel to your footage layer.

The layers aligning with the footage layer will ensure that everything syncs when the gif loops. You’ll also want to make sure that the back bumper is also placed directly where the footage layer ends.

✨STEP 7 - SAVING

1.) File > Save (CTRL+S) the file on your computer wherever you prefer, keeping it in .psd format.

2.) To save as .gif, go to File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy). (CTRL+Shift+ALT+S) The settings below are what I typically use, but feel free to change Pattern to Diffusion or Noise to see how it effects the preview.

Each dither algorithm option (Pattern/Diffusion/Noise) will change the file size as well has the gif's appearance.

3.) If the file size is under 10MB, then you're ready to save the gif.

If the file size is larger than 10MB, it's likely the footage is too lengthy. In this case, try 1) trimming the footage down as we did previously using the scissors icon on the Timeline, and/or 2) changing the frame rate speed to a number higher than 24, starting with 25, 26, 27, etc. (This will reduce the gif size, but make the speed of the gif faster.)

There are other ways to reduce the file size as well, such as changing the number of Colors on the Save for Web (Legacy) screen from 256 to anything below that. (Which I don't really recommend if your gif is very vibrant or full of color. But it will work well on more neutrally colored/dark gifs.)

Congrats! You're all done.

✨CLOSING THOUGHTS

hey! i was wondering how you make your gifs? they're so clean and captioned so well!

Hiii! Omg, thank you so much 🥹! I actually follow pretty much the same process every time when it comes to the first steps. I'm gonna detail it a bit under the cut:

It's really important to start with a good quality video - I download the shows / movies on 1080p and try to look for HD and UHD versions. Then I open them with VLC and use the recorder from the app to capture the scene I want to gif (sorry, I know it's in Romanian, but the order is the same):

Then in photoshop (I have the 2022 version installed) I use the import video frames to layers feature (for video games, which are different from TV shows and movies, I usually also select the limit to every 2 frames option, so I get the proper speed - otherwise it looks in some kind of super slo-mo).

Depending on how big is the gif I want, I keep between 30 to 70 frames (I don't like how the shorter ones look - this is just a matter of preference - and the longer ones tend to be too big when I export them). Then I set the delay to 0,05, no matter which video I use.

After that I crop and resize the gif and then comes the sharpening. I first use a smart sharpen filter with these settings:

After that I add an extra filter of gaussian blur with 0,2 radius.

This is how it looks at this point:

The colouring part is a lot of trial and error for me, but the layers I use all the time are curves, saturation/vibrance, selective color, color balance, brightness/contrast and exposure (not in this particular order and the last one especially on dark scenes).

Here for example I wanted to get rid of the greenish hue and to improve the lightning, so I started with a curves layer, the I used selective color to change the greens in the gif and increase the blacks, the color balance to decrease the yellow tint remaining, then added some vibrance, saturation and contrast and at the end I used a cooling filter and set its blending mode to lighten (I'm starting to play more and more with the blending mode of the layers because you can get some really cool effects by testing stuff).

Then I export and these are my settings (most of the time I use that preview option from bottom left, to see how it actually looks on the web):

And then there's one last step before I publish. After I export the gif, I open it once again in photoshop and fix its frame delay back to 0,05 because for some unknown reason, the app messes this particular setting and if you don't change it, it looks kinda glitchy.

I learned all of this stuff from the amazing tutorials available on tumblr actually and then by adapting stuff to what I like. I do recommend this blog for all sorts of tips and different processes.

Sorry, I turned this into an almost tutorial, but I really hope it helps, even if my process is a bit messy 😇 I don't use the science of photoshop at its fullest like many creators here, but I test stuff and get frustrated and then try again and it really helps if you have enough patience (this was my first gifset posted here, almost 3 months ago and even I can admit the improvement).

Don't know much about SEO but want to learn how it can help your ecommerce website? I've collected some trusted resources for you. (Bookmark that page for future use, as I plan to keep it updated.)

Google has recently been emphasizing that links to your site are not as crucial as they used to be. From Google’s John Mueller: “There are more important things for websites nowadays, and over-focusing on links will often result in you wasting your time doing things that don’t make your website better overall.” Here’s another instance of staff telling people you don’t need many links.

When doing keyword research, especially for niche/longtail terms, “think about think about 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐞 not search query volume.” Many less common searches will have a ton of slightly different variations, and a well-written piece will be able to target all of them. [It’s a good reason not to avoid really low search volume keywords that fit.]

Contrary to recent speculation, pages with ads on them can still rank well on Google; the real problem is ads that negatively affect the reader’s ability to use the page.

Google has started testing its “Google Search Generative Experience” (AI) in regular organic search results. This was a US-only test, at first, but results have now been spotted in Australia, the UK and India as well. Note that Google’s AI still provides really lousy responses for lots of questions a full year after it debuted, including making stuff up.

Google has been taking a lot of heat for bad results lately, especially for ranking forum sites above quality experts. SEOs have been piling on, and Google is getting a bit defensive, saying that sometimes it is just showing what people want to see.

Not Google

Bing is apparently going to follow Google, as it is testing removal of cache links.

SOCIAL MEDIA - All Aspects, By Site

General

A lot of people are confused about what “federated” social media means, so here’s a chat [text and audio] with the CEO of Bluesky that covers that and other goals of the social media site that started as part of Twitter but is now fully separate. Bluesky posts can also now be embedded on websites.

Twitch is one of several social media sites introducing a feed similar to TikTok’s, for both livestreams and recorded videos.

Facebook (includes relevant general news from Meta)

Meta is rolling out its new political filter to Instagram and Threads, requiring users to opt in if they want to see political content. The change will be added to Facebook in the future.

Starting in May, all AI-generated content on Facebook, Instagram and Threads will display a “Made with AI” label, Meta announced. “The old policy prohibits videos created or edited using AI tools that make a person say something they didn’t but doesn’t cover the wide range of AI-generated content that has recently flooded the web.”

Meta’s new AI assistant pulls results directly from Google and Bing, in real time.

Meta’s Advantage + Shopping Campaigns have new targeting capabilities, allowing advertisers to select interested accounts that are not current customers.

Beware of Facebook ads glitches that many companies report have increased their costs.

Court documents revealed that Meta tracked some of Facebook users’ activity on other apps such as Snapchat, perhaps without adequate disclosure.

In yet another court action, advertisers who placed ads on Facebook and Instagram have a class action for $7 billion, claiming Meta reported more ad views than actually occurred. “The advertisers suing Meta allege that the Potential Reach metric used by the company to determine advertising costs relies on the total number of social media accounts rather than individual users. They argue that this approach is problematic because it could include bot and fake accounts, resulting in advertisers paying more money for their ads to be served to bots.”

Instagram

Instagram has some pointers for getting more interaction on Stories.

Here is a comprehensive list of various features on Instagram that might be useful to promoting and selling, including very recent updates.

A study of LinkedIn posts in 2022 and 2023 revealed a few tips for getting more engagement.

Because everyone wants to be TikTok, LinkedIn is beta testing a short video format. “While you have always been able to post videos on LinkedIn, the new dedicated feed is designed to boost engagement and discovery on the platform by presenting bite-sized videos that people can quickly scroll through.”

There’s been a lot written about how Reddit and other forum websites are really benefiting from high Google rankings for many basic knowledge queries; this article details Reddit’s search rise in the past year. “The most visible URL in r/buyitforlife, for example, is a thread on the “best coffee maker” which gets an estimated 10980 organic clicks per month. This one thread on one subreddit, on one domain which competes for visibility with nytimes.com, epicurious.com, target.com, cnn.com and bestbuy.com, to name just five on the list of over 1000 domains that are also on the competitor list for the URL.”

Threads

Threads users in the US, Canada and Japan can now cross post in the fediverse. This mostly works with Mastodon at the moment.

It looks like Meta is going to make advertising available on Threads in the second half of 2024, which is earlier than expected.

TikTok

TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program is now out of beta, and rewards users for 4 different metrics: “Originality, Play duration, Search value [and] Audience engagement.”

Tiktok’s photo app has now launched: "TikTok Notes” is now available in Australia and Canada [article contains screenshots of the app].

Twitter

No, Twitter is not currently at its highest traffic ever; the graph Musk tweeted was estimated web traffic only. Roughly 80% of Twitter’s traffic is through the app.

Twitter may be banned in Brazil if the company doesn’t comply with government orders to block some accounts there. In related news, Bluesky is now allowing heads of state to open accounts, after their surge in Brazil. Brazil’s president was the first to sign up.

YouTube

I use HD (1080p) quality. I haven't found TLK in 4K , but I have SKMD in 4K. And I must say that even if the final result from 4K is better, there is more work involved, so HD is OK for me.

There is a very good basic tutorial on making Gifs including the sharpening I started with, you can find it here.

The rest is test and trial method and there are many good tutorials on tumblr about different topics like colouring, sharpening, text, effects - just try searching. Here is one more post listing some tutorials I found very useful.

There is no such thing as one setting, as each gif is different and I'm still learning. 😅

Erm...also about the channel I uploaded this to... Long story short this entire blog is just a test for when I feel ready to post about my main hyperfocuses/au/personal art/personal stories. I'm working on a main tumblr blog and a side blog for that stuff and if all goes according to plan I'm going to have it open by 2024. I'll also put speedpaints and maybe some playthroughs on that channel 🐙

As for the speedpaint, yeah the quality kinda shat but this was just an experiment anyway (my first speedpaint) so I don't really care that much. I just used Medibang Paint's built-in time-lapse function, which was really convenient, but it only records the canvas and doesn't show my zoom ins or when I use selection tools or even my cursor, making it near impossible to see what I'm doing at times. Next time I'll just use the screen recorder app.

The morning sickness kicks in like something has dislocated your guts and you just can't help but vomit when smelling garlic. You love garlic. Loved, to be exact. Probably more than you should but a few days after visiting your doctor and after confirming your pregnancy, your pregnancy hormones seems to rage inside you, making you suffer even your baby is only 6 weeks old. The doctor promised more vomiting in the first trimester so there's that.

And despite that, you're still adamant on surprising Henry about this. He's going to be home for a couple of weeks after filming and need to fly again to do another one. He's been booked and busy so your quality time is very rare.

Honestly, you don't know what his reaction would be. Children was never a topic you actually sat down and talked about. He loves his nephews and nieces and he's so adorable with children. Maybe it's because he's too invested in his career now that he thinks he won't find time for family but you know he will. He's the most family oriented people you know and your children is definitely so lucky to have him.

You just hope he doesn't get a heart attack when you hand him the paper.

He texted that he just landed and you feel all giddy inside. You wanted to pick him up from the airport but he knows you're sick and wanted you to stay home. You rub your still flat stomach and imagine what would it be like to be pregnant while Henry's away. He's the stronghold you need at this time and you're a bit scared that he won't be around as much.

You ordered his favorite pizza and some curry he definitely missed while away from home. The takeaway sounds effortless but you just don't want to puke all over what you're cooking. You cannot even stand the smell of garlic.

As the door knob jiggled and Kal scratched the door in frenzy, you know Henry is fumbling with his keys on one hand and holding his bags on the other.

Your husband walked in the door with so much confidence, even his hair looked like it's had a bad day, he still looked smoking hot. He scratches Kal's head, dropped his bags and run-walked towards you. Caging you into a bear hug.

"Oh how I missed you, bub." He says, kissing your head, then your face and then finally your lips.

You clutch the ultrasound in your hand, sliding it in your pocket. Probably it would be good to mention this while eating. I hope he doesn't choke or something.

"How was your day, hmm?" You missed how he asked you about everything you do and how his face lights up when you mention something new.

"How was my day? How was yours? How was the flight? You look so tired." You reach out for him and caressed his face. He leans in to my hand and sighed.

"The flight was long, love. I couldn't wait to get home and yes, I am tired. Is cuddling in your itinerary today? I need that." He smiles and kissed your nose as you nod and look at him lovingly.

"I have a surprise for you." You mention as he's eating his fourth pizza.

His brows shot up while munching on the piece of bacon he plucked from the top of his pizza. You handed him the envelope, complete with your pregnancy test showing a plus sign.

He puts down his pizza and rub off the crumbs from his hands and reached out for the white envelope and peeked at what's inside.

"Y/N..." He gasped when he pulled out all the contents and stumbled upon the pink test. He knew this all too well. We've had pregnancy scares for many times now and he'd have to look at negative ones because of my paranoid ass.

As he unfolds the ultrasound film on his hand, he looks at me, dumbfounded and in awe.

"You are?" He says more like a whisper, like he can't believe it himself.

You nod and tears are brimming in your eyes, your heartbeat faster than it should. You look at Henry once again, gauging his reaction.

"I was scared that you're not going to take this positively." You murmur, now even more scared that you said those words.

He pulls you into his lap and kissed you, burying your head at the crook of his neck, both of you looking at your little bleep. And Henry doesn't realize it until you pointed it out to him.

"Can you read what's on it?" You ask, your hand absentmindedly caressing his chest, hearing his heart beat, your ears against his chest.

"Okay, so here's baby A. Then another one here is baby B and then baby C. Wow, look at them babies."

He doesn't even realize what he just said and it hasn't sink in until I point it out to him.

"There are how many babies?"

"Three. There's A, B and C." He says nonchalantly pointing to the labels. "Wait, what?"

You chuckle and see how his reaction changed from relax to panic.

"Bubba, three babies????" He gestured three using his fingers and you can't help but laugh at the bulge of his eyes.

"We're having triplets???!!" He almost screams but it came out as a growl because he can't decide if he'll laugh or run.

You can't help but laugh so hard at his reaction while still clutching the paper on hand, checking it out, over and over again.

"You should probably sit down, love." You say to him as he paced back and forth at the room and suddenly stands still, shaking his head.

"Three babies..." He whispers under his breath as he walks back to his seat, placing the ultrasound back to the envelope.

"Are you okay?" You ask, because he's now spacing out and you're kind of worried.

"Bubba, what are we going to do with three babies? Three!"

He suddenly stands up again, this time walking to the fridge and grabbing himself a few cans of beer.

"I definitely need more cuddles today, if you don't mind." He says as the hiss of the beer can being opened invaded the room.

"I'm shocked, love, I really am but never think for one second that I won't be here with you all the way. But good God, triplets?!"

You laugh and look at him as he opens another can of beer and looks back at you with so much confusion in his eyes.

"I love you. You're everything to me. But I think I need to lie down."

As your laugh boomed throughout the house, you can't help but be thankful he's your husband and you wish he doesn't faint in the delivery room.

hi! I saw the most recent ask about alt text, and tumblr actually does have the option to add alt text on mobile. i heard that this feature does not work well with most screen readers, but i'm not sure if this is still true. i was wondering if you or any others who read your blog might have an answer about if tumblr's alt text is worth using? thank you for reading!

Hi! Wow, I had no idea tumblr had this option. I have never come across an image described using ALT text before on tumblr, although this might be because people have not used it much. I also failed to look it up myself, assuming that tumblr had not updated to include an ALT text option. Oops.

Let me take this opportunity to test it out using my screen-reader and a GIF.

ALT Text vs. Image Descriptions?

I do think it is a good idea to include regular image descriptions on social media for a few reasons:

-so DeafBlind people can interact with the post

-so people without screen-readers may not assume no one made an image description (although perhaps the person posting could include a note that the image is described using ALT text?)

-in case the ALT text feature is not great

-the description required is long and detailed

Articles could probably use this feature without any problems, and I have seen them use ALT on images well!

I’m going to post a GIF and test the ALT text using my screen-reader. If anyone would like to include their opinions on the quality of tumblr’s ALT text feature, feel free.

Oh it also works with pictures!

Limitations of ALT text

So far, it works with my screen-reader and is relatively easy to add to pictures and GIFs. Perhaps what you heard about it not working with some screen-readers has since been fixed. However, you’re correct in that it still has limitations. It has a word count limit. I was able to fit the image description below the picture into the ALT text box, but I had to write it a few times. It may not be useful for very detailed pictures. The text box was also cramped and impossible to scroll through once I typed something.

Videos

Videos will still need image descriptions and probably transcripts for maximum accessibility for the D/deaf and so people using screen-readers can keep track of what image description happens when as they watch the video.

ALT Text or Image Descriptions?

[Image Description - A GIF from the movie Road to El Dorado (2000) in which two men face each other. One says “Both?” The other says “Both.” They say “Both” together, and the first one says “Both is good.” End I.D.]

It might be helpful to include a very brief description in ALT text, at least when it has a word limit. It can help people kept track of how many images there are and they can know something about it when they find it rather than that it is an “image”. The screen-reader just says “image” when it finds an image without ALT text. So including something there would be helpful.

An image description can allow you add more detail, especially for detailed pictures or long posts of only images. Image descriptions can also allow for more people to engage with the picture, whether they only use Braille displays or because the image contains text and it is hard to read.

My recommendation is to do both, as I have done in this post. The ALT can be a short description and the image description can allow for more detail. For the Both is Good GIF, I simply used the ALT text to mention what it was and where it was from, using the image description to go into more detail. This can also avoid redundant descriptions. My ALT text and image descriptions in the first GIF and the pancakes picture are probably a bit much.

If you don’t want to do both, include the image description.

STAYING ALIVE MASTERPOST, FROM A BROKE TEEN WITH ADHD

here you go. some down to earth tips on how to not die metally nor physically.

tired of those "drink three liters of water everyday uwu" and "wake up at 5 am" and "buy a bath bomb and a fec mask and some other things you don't have the money for" shit? i'm here for ya.

1. NOT DYING

eat at least three meals a day, one of which m u s t be warm and above 300 kcal (it can be istant ramen with an egg added if you have to)

you technically should shower everyday, but we know how it is. A change of clothes is sometimes enough.

DRY SHAMPOO AND BABY WIPES!!!

keep bottles with water everywhere. On your desk, near that spot on the floor you always end up sitting on, near your bed, basically whenever you know you spend a lot of time. No need to get up and go to the kitchen will help. Obviously change the water in the bottles as often as you can.

Get some form of physical activity. It doesn't have to be much, you can for example replace scrolling on tiktok by walking around your room and scrolling on tiktok! Brilliant, isn't it? Obviously, running or doing those 10 minutes workouts from youtube is better, but you are still getting like an hour of walking.

Buy blankets. Steal blankets. Summon blankets from other dimensions. Just make sure you have a lot of warm, soft blankets in your house. You will thank me when you won't have the anergy to wash your sheets (just take them off and throw some blankets on your bed), or when the power goes out.

If you have pets, ALWAYS keep spare food that'll last for a week for them.

things to always have in the kitchen: milk, eggs, flour, rice, pasta, yeast, cheese, oil, a leafy vegetable, onions, tomatoes, apples, patatoes, some flavourful sauce, sugar, salt, spices and an emergency chocolate bar. You can make a lot of food with those. Just make sure you won't eat the chocolate too fast.

Have a lot of spare batteries. A lot.

Get urself a flashlight, a lighter, and a pocket knife.

Remember the apples? eat one a day. if you don't like apples or you can't eat them for any other reason, you can take a kiwi, banana, orange, basically something that will give you vitamins and non processed sugar.

do the dishes before your sink starts developing it's own ecosystem

drugs from that one guy around the corner = very bad time

2. NOT DYING INSIDE

Open the damn window.

Don't watch so many commentary videos. You are probably not even checking the sources, so you can easily make unjust judgement, and like. did you even hear of half of those people before?

make a discord server just for yourself. get into the habit of writing little things that happened to you there. rant about the fanfics you read. or the movies. vent there if you don't have anyone you can vent to. write your ideas there, write e v e r y t h i n g. make a section for passwords, for quick ideas, for your to do lists. you won't lose it as you do with sticky notes or notebooks. there is no risk anyone will see it. oh, and when you'll have a strong impulse to tell emily that you hate her? write that message in your private server and list all ur arguments. look at tat the next day and decide if you really mean that.

life sucks. come to peace with it.

cuddle ur pets if you have them

1 hour a day without a lot of sensory input. if you have to, reduce to half an hour.

if you find yourself scrolling endlessly through social media, make sure it's pintrest (just don't compare urself to the people here; if you have issues with that, tumblr may be better)

delete. twitter. from. your. phone.

influencers are lying to you; maybe not even intentionally. remember when you were watching that cute-aesthetic-productive morning routine, and you were wondering why your life isn't that pretty? why your room is a mess? why you cannot for the life of god be aesthetic 24/7? its the filter. don't worry about it, their lifes arent that nice either.

realize there's actually nothing stopping you from screaming as loud as you can right now. like there is no physical barrier. think about it. realize there's no actual physical barierr to many other things.

your body is your body. you can decide how it looks like; just remember it's in your greatest interest to keep it healthy.

3. BEING A LITTLE BETTER THAN JUST ALIVE

If you wear make up, take it off before you go to sleep.

moisturize your body; everything is better when your skin doesn't feel dry

have a one brand of cosmetics that you love and buy things mainly from it. they often have sets of products that complete each other. i like ziaja. it's a polish brand, it's surprisingly cheap and has nice quality

cleanser, moisturizer, face mist

of you can, change your sheets once every two weeks

do the dishes before your sink starts developing it's own ecosystem

do a deep house clean once a month (don't beat yourself up when you don't tho)

keep your workspace organized (it doesn't have to look organized to other people, remember)

sunscreen

cook your own food

keep a calendar

no money for scented candles? got ya. make a simmer pot: throw some apple peel, a couple of cinnamon sticks and whatever spices that smell good you have into a pot, add some water and simmer. boom. your house smells good, and you haven't spend 20 dollars.

If you really like candles, buy scented wax melts. it's cheaper.

Buy urself scented mists. they're pretty cheap and will make you feel A LOT better.

keep your clothes clean. if you aren't sure if that shirt thats on your chair is dirty or not, throw it in the washing mashine anyway. better be sure.

if you can, make your bed right when you get up

wear clothes that make you feel good. put some effort into your outfits. really.

4. OTHER PEOPLE

be nice to essential workers.

if you have money, give tips.

remember, you do not owe anyone love; it is not something you can force. even if they saved your life. even when they helped you in your darkest time. if you don't love them, you don't.

you don't have to be in a romantic relationship to be happy.

if you want to, date! date everyone! date girls, date boys, date nonbinary people! date people completly different than you, date people from different countries, date them!!! just make sure they're kind and won't kill you. even if you don't end up in a relationship, you can learn a lot.

don't be afraid to piss off people that deserve it

smile to strangers :)

5. NOT FAILING SCHOOL

heard of dark academia? check it out

romanticize the heck out of studying

do not let your studying be just reading the same partagraph over and over again. it won't work. believe me.

seterra for geography, quizlet for everything else

try to make yourself intrestet in whatever you are studying (watch veritasium, listen to podcasts about weird history facts)

notes are for you and you only; don't worry about them looking pretty. doodle on margins, make weird metaphors, squeeze in as much info as you can.

when you're studying, listen to music without words/in a language you don't understand.

chew gum while you study

get the forest app, get attached to the trees, focus.

don't feel guilty for taking breaks

grades aren't everything, but they are important.

eat something in school

don't just use the cheapest pens. invest a couple dollars in something that will make writing enjoyable and smooth

those study with me videos? they're great

if you like to argue with the teachers, take care of your grades becouse. they may not like you afterwards.

be nice to your classmates and help them with homework. if you don't do your homework they'll help you

executive dysfunction won't let you study? been there. sometimes it's better to wake up ealier tommorow and do that homework then.

don't feel guilty for failing a test

go to the goddamn class

don't pull all nighters oh my god don't especially on weekdays

6. OTHER LIFEHACKS

don't get involved in the crime, and if you do always have a believable explanation why you were doing it

have different alarm sounds for every day of the week

set a daily limit of money that you spend

great hobbies that don't require a lot of money; urban exploration, writing, hiking and learning other languages

thrift stores

don't eat grapefruits while on meds

nail polish removers dissolve most strong glues.

if you have a cut on your skin, desinfect it. do it. please just do it.

always have pads with you. even if you don't get periods, at least one of your friends probably does

MY GIF-MAKING TUTORIAL

for @sunshinesquash

i use photopea.com for making gifs so if you have photoshop i’m not sure how much different these tools will be, but i hope this can help!! i also have a windows computer so if you have a mac my recording technique might not work :’( all the tools i use are pretty simple and basic so if you can’t afford to download a lot of software dont worry!

recording:

when you’re finding videos to use for gifs, you want to use the highest quality footage u can find! you normally always want to use 1080p, but if you can only find 720p then make sure its not too grainy!

for the actual recording, i use the (windows + g) shortcut. once you click that this should pop up!

if this is your first time opening the game bar, it might just show only the top bar - if that happens, click on the second icon! when the capture sidebar shows up click on the third icon and the recording will begin :] make sure that your recording is 4-5 seconds max, otherwise it will be too big for photopea to handle and there will be too many frames!

opening the recording:

all your recordings from the windows game bar will automatically show up in videos > captures.

open photopea, and then click file > open and locate your recording!

when it’s opened photopea should look like this:

this image size is 1920 x 1080 which is way too big for photopea to load your final gif and for tumblr to accept! because of this you’ll click file > new and get to a pop-up that looks like this:

the size that i normally make my gifs is 540 x 540 which is what i’m going to use for this tutorial! you can always go for other dimensions - whatever you’re comfortable with :]. click create!

ok now comes the complicated part :

select all of the frames that you’re going to work with until they become highlighted grey. make sure the folder is not selected!

right click on the highlighted area so an options bar pops up!

click on ‘duplicate into...’ and select the drop down menu and click on ‘new project.psd’. there will be a ‘new project’ and a ‘new project.psd’ option - ‘new project.psd is the one you want to click on! ‘new project.psd’ is the 540x540 project that you created.

next, click on the tab that says ‘New Project.psd’ and it should show you something like this:

the frames are really zoomed in because of the different dimensions, so we’re going to fix that! make sure all of your frames are still highlighted and then click on the little folder button that i circled:

now all of your frames are going to be under a single folder. make sure ‘transform controls’ on the top menu is selected! now single click on the edge of the selected frames:

now a new menu is going to show up where it used to say ‘transform controls’ was! make sure the little hamburger button in between the dimensions is selected.

replace the 100% with 50% and now your dimensions will look like this!

now just drag that box of frames onto the white area! (make sure only the folder is selected on the side bar):

sharpening + color:

now you’re going to open that folder and then select all your frames again (make sure the folder is not highlighted):

now click filter > noise > and type in 1%.

im adding noise here because it helps smooth out the gif and makes sure there arent any wavy/grainy lines!

after you click ‘ok’ then click filter > sharpen > smart sharpen. you don’t have to change any settings here! just click ‘ok’ with the default settings.

now your base gif is ready for coloring!

all your coloring tools will be under layer > new adjustment layer.

always remember that whatever settings/coloring that i use may be different from the way you want to do it! gif-making always starts with exploring and experimenting with your style :]

the first type of adjustment layers that i always start with are the ones that deal with adjusting brightness! depending on how dark your gif is you will either want to start with ‘brightness/contrast’ or ‘levels’. (you can also use curves but levels are easier to control for me.)

if you have a super dark gif, you’re going to want to start with ‘brightness/contrast’. no actual adjustments will be made to this layer but you’re going to make its type ‘screen.’

BE CAREFUL WITH THIS LAYER! doing ‘screen’ with brightness/contrast will often whitewash characters of color so for this gif we’re going to just use ‘levels’! (there are ways to get the original skin tone back when using this layer, so if it’s completely necessary depending on the scene, you’re going to have to work a lot with coloring adjustment layers to make sure not to oversaturate or whiten when doing this. you’ll get there with practice, but for this tutorial we’re going to work with safe adjustments!)

if the gif becomes too bright because of ‘screen’ in brightness/contrast you can adjust the opacity!

whenever you use brightness/contrast you’re also going to use a levels layer because just this layer can remove a lot of the depth

now let’s open the levels layer!

you’ll see the three squares that you can adjust - the black is shadows, the grey is mid-tones, and the white is highlights. when working with characters of color don’t brighten the mid-tones, this will also whitewash them! dragging the squares to the left will brighten, and to the right will darken. each scene will require different adjustments so explore and figure out what’s right! make sure when brightening, that you remember to give it enough depth.

now the gif has proper lighting!

after your brightening layers, you’re going to look at the scene and check whether you need a photo filter layer! if your scene has a strange filter - for example, cw shows often use a weird dark yellow filter: this is where a photo filter comes in.

for this tutorial im going to show how to use the photo filter! shawn’s face has a yellow tint so we’re going to try this out. (there are ways to get rid of the yellow in selective color, but for this tutorial we’re going to start with photo filter.)

photopea automatically provides a yellow color photo filter which is not what we want for this scene! (if you have an especially blue scene this might help though!)

click on the orange square and drag the color picker to the opposite color of the one you’re trying to get rid. we’re getting rid of yellow, so we’ll select blue.

now, we’re going to adjust the density so it doesn’t look so blue. now it looks perfect!

now we’re going to go to my favorite tool: selective color :]

you can see hints of blue, and pink in the scene already - so we’re going to really bring those out!!

click on the drop down that will bring up a list of colors! we’re going to especially go for cyan and blue. when i really need to bring out blue, i drag the cyan fully over to 100% and the yellow to -100%

if you look at the gif now, you can see that the blue is starting to come out! duplicate that selective colors layer until the blue becomes saturated enough, but not grainy. i duplicated mine’s three times for this gif!

now that you see how to manipulate the colors with selective colors, experiment and see what you can do! i felt like the skin tones were too pale so i messed with the reds :] you may think differently, that’s why coloring is subjective not objective!

one of my other favorite tools to use is the vibrance tool! make sure not too saturate your colors too much so be careful with this layer!

another really fun tool to use is the hue/saturation tool! if you have a very prominent stable color that isnt too grainy, you can manipulate it to another totally different color! this gif may not do too well, since the blue isn’t completely solid, but we can still test it out!

click on the drop down to the color you want to manipulate and have fun with it! i could make the blue a little cyan here without making it too grainy so this is what we ended up with :]

this is going to be the end of the tutorial for now but always feel free to ask me if you need some more advice. if some of it was confusing dm me or i can always make a video of my process!

[VERY IMPORTANT: REMEMBER that photopea.com is a website so it’s always prone to crashing. always ALWAYS save your psd’s after you’re done editing. a psd will save all your coloring and frames! go to file > save as psd. to export your frames as a gif go to file > export as > gif > save! if photopea starts lagging, it might be the time to open it in another tab and start making your other gifs there.]

i think you're talking about the gifs right?

here's my tips lol (it's just how i do things honestly)

1. get the highest quality file available

when using an mv, download the highest quality version (i use 4k downloader, you can get it for free). if using a stage, try to get a raw .TS file (they can be hard to find 💔) or if the youtube video is 4k and you can tell it's really good quality then you can use that

2. use a pre processing software like vaporsynth or avisyth

this type of software will clip the parts of the video that you want to gif, and it has some sharpening features that are also very helpful. i can link some giffing tutorials i've used that taught me a lot!

I use vaporsynth (tutorial)

3. make your gifs on photoshop

photoshop has additional sharpening filters that can be useful, along with many other editing features.

4. exporting on photoshop:

file > export > save for web (legacy)

I marked down all the important things:

➤ first on the upper right where it says adaptive: there are 3 options you can use, perceptual, selective or adaptive. they all work well for gifs but some will end up in a higher size file than other. i've been into adaptive later. you can just switch it up and see what you like best.

➤ then where it says pattern: there are 2 options you can use, pattern or diffusion. it's a matter of preference here, i like to go with pattern. both work fine. diffusion might make the file heavier.

➤ for the next part it says diffusion transparency dither, here you should use either that or pattern transparency dither.

➤ next is about the dimensions, for this part you should actually define it when you first start the giffing, in the clipping phase, using vaporsynth. just make sure you're using dimensions that are compatible with tumblr's format, for width either 540px (1 gif per row), 268 px (2 gifs per row) or 177 px (3 gifs per row). As for height normally you'd start with at least 350 px but that can vary a lot. Like in this extreme case from my screenshot where my height was 640px. Keeping in mind that the bigger the dimensions, the bigger your gif size will be and the lower number of frames you'll be able to have.

➤ which is the next point, size. as we know, tumblr has an image size upload limit of 10mb (honestly if my images are over 9.5 it already doesn't let me upload). ideally you want to keep your gif small as tumblr might tone down the quality a little bit with the upload.

For the rest of the options on the export screen I believe you typically don't need to mess with, so just make sure they look the same as mine :D

All of the above are standard procedure for me and imo usually indispensable for a decent looking gif.

5. editing

i don't know if by quality you also meant some aspects of my gifs that imo are due to my editing (such as how they're usually clear and bright). if you wanna know more about that, let me know in another ask! but generally i'd advise you to do a test drive with your gifs when it comes to filters. for example add a filter and try to export to see what the final result will actually look like, in comparison to a version of the gif that wouldn't have it. I say this because, for example adding noise to your gif could potentially make it look like it's in lower quality compared to not using it.

I'm sorry if you already knew everything I mentioned and it wasn't helpful😖

Ok, so there’s a few people here. I’ll try and get it done, but I am struggling!!

@wroetobehzinga - Kayleigh’s love language is 100% words of affirmation. She is literally the embodiment of the ultimate hype woman. If you ever need words of encouragement, or, someone to make you feel better about life... she is 100% that person. As for Behz, I feel like his love language is quality time. Like going for runs, cooking together all of that good stuff. There’d be some definite messes from food fights and the like in this household.

@behzynga - Amy’s love language is doing things for the other person. She’s so selfless and just a delight to be around. The most patience going. Which is helpful because Cal would definitely test her patience on the fucking daily. With that being said though, Cal also strikes me as being the kind of person to just do anything for the people he cares about. Catch Freezy picking wild flowers to make a bouquet for Amy that is completely unique to her.

@sour--disposition - Bella’s love language is physical touch and words of affirmation. Bella is so kind, always only has positive things to say to people. Despite me asking her some really stupid questions at times. She’s a sweetheart. While I think JJ’s love language would be selfless acts. So I have this really vivid image of him making her a cup of tea in the morning, getting back into bed, and allowing her to just lay on his chest. His chest movements from his breathing as well as the hot tea sending her back to sleep and it’s the cutest thing. LOVE IT.

@tbjzlvzn - Ellie’s love language is being protective. They will always have your back and want to do their best to make sure that you are ok. Which is so lovely, especially considering what has happened on Tumblr recently. Tobi’s love language I feel is to get gifts for the other person. If you’ve seen his video where he buys 25 presents for Behz for his 25th birthday, you’ll get what I mean. The way he buys gifts is so thoughtful and so lovely. I can see Tobi taking Ellie out for a meal, and Tobi has cold food or something, Ellie will 100% tell the waiter that they’ve got it wrong, because no-one fucks with their man. I adore that.

@sdmnluvs - Ciara. I ship her with Josh more than anything. I feel like Ciara’s love language is kind words. She always seems to tag me in such lovely things and she is such a breath of fresh air. The positivity I think I would have loved to be at her age. Plus, she’s the cutest little Irish thing ever. I think Josh’s love language is also kind words. So, I think this would balance out quite well. Whenever each of them would have a bad day, they’d be hyping each other up. An iconic pairing.

As for me, my love language is buying people gifts and spending time with them. For example before rona, I would buy people things on their birthday that I knew they would enjoy, but also allow us to spend time together. While Harry’s love language is definitely physical touch, which would annoy me to the highest degree at points because I hate people touching me unless I’m in the mood for said physical touch. But, I feel like this scenario would play out at like Disney World (don’t @ me I fucking love Disney, to the point where I’m planning a whole Disney sleeve tattoo), both of us wearing Disney merchandise and just holding hands around the place. I don’t know.

GIF limit, GIFV, and other nonsense.

So Tumblr recently increased the gif size to something around 8mb per gif, but the quality looks really bad and there is a lot of confusion around it. I got a few asks so i thought I’ll make a post.

After reading other posts and conducting my own test I have come to the following conclusions:

The crappy quality seems to be because of the gifv conversion that happened a few months ago. Basically tumblr convert gifs to .gifv format so that storing them on servers is easier since it compresses the gif and saves space

Which is why I think that they were able to increase the gif limit in the first place --- because it wont be taking up that much space on their servers

You can read more about GIFV here.

According to this post all the gifs are compressed under 3mb

So the smaller your gif, the better it’ll look because less data is lost post compression and vice-versa

Workaround to this nonsense:

You can install this extension for Chrome and check this post for other browsers (the chrome link in that post is broken).

This extension doesn’t support any gif over 5mb, they simply appear as images

Also the extension doesn’t work when you click on gifs, so anything over 5mb will work when you click on the gif to enlarge

How to check if the extension is working: Open gif in a new tab and the extension in the address bar should be dot gif. If you download that gif, it’ll be of the original size.

The quality of the video you use to gif impacts how good or bad your gif looks after compression. For example I used a 30GB+ file to make this gifset and it doesn’t look half as bad without gifv extension, where as this gif (size just under 5mb) made from youtube looks horrendous.

This doesn’t mean that everyone needs a 30gb file, but if your copy is HQ enough it shouldn’t matter all that much.

And finally:

Gif are gonna be kinda bad if you go above 3mb so like, its upto you. You can either make gifs around 3mb or keep it till 5mb and use the extension.

To quote the autor of the extension “It works now because Tumblr still hosts the original GIFs every time, presumably for browser compatibility purposes. The day they stop doing so, the extension will stop working unfortunately and there won’t be any way back.” So please keep that in mind as well.

All of this is my best guess since I’m only speculating here with limited information available, I may be wrong.

This feature is not available to everyone, I haven’t seen any gif over 6mb move with or with out gif extension

Of course an announcement/clarification from staff but they’re not known to be very helpful

Taang Week Day 2: Modern AU

After only two weeks of spring semester, Aang is fed up and ready to drop his geology class.]

A/N: i wanna redo this and make it better and i really struggled with the world-building here ngl so I couldn’t really come up with good names for the buildings or profs. what can you do¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Inspired by tumblr user @rllyjohnrlly’s modern au, specifically this post.

Science, as Aang was learning, was absolutely not what he had thought it would be. When he was still in high school, he excitedly declared a zoology major on all of his college applications, thinking he would turn his love for animals into a lifelong career.

All it took was his first college-level biology class to quickly bury that idea. Between that and chemistry for non-majors, he felt resigned to the idea that all science classes were a bad idea for him, and that he’d better just pick the easiest one in the catalog to round out his general requirements. Which is how he found himself enrolled in the Introduction to Geology class his freshman spring semester. He’d learned the three types of rocks and the basics in high school, how hard could it be?

(the answer was very hard)

(but slightly less hard than biology)

After the second week of class, he sat on the floor of Katara’s dorm, textbook draped across his lap as she sat at her desk, diligently working on her homework. She really excelled at the very classes that almost killed him and he admired that about her.

“Ugh!” Aang groaned, slamming his textbook shut and throwing his head back onto her bed. “Katara, this is awful.”

She set her pen down and shifted in her chair to face him, the look on her face one of confusion and concern. “What’s the matter?”

“I can’t do this! I hate this class,” he replied, pressing his palms into his eyes.

“Aang, what are you talking about? You can’t hate a class already, we’re only two weeks into the semester! What could possibly be so bad about it now?” Katara asked, getting up from her chair and walking over to sit across from him.

He sighed and let his hands fall back into his lap. He rolled his head to look at her. “Because it’s awful! I knew it probably wouldn’t be much fun, but I thought at least it would be pretty easy. And it’s not! It’s so hard and so boring and the professor is the most lame professor I have ever met.”

(she couldn’t help but smirk at that)

“Okay, well, you’re not going to find a class that’s easy, especially in your weakest subject. It’s just not going to happen. Maybe it’ll get more interesting after the first few chapters. Those are always just introductory anyway, they’re way more boring than the rest of the class.” She could see he wasn’t convinced and added, “The drop period was over Friday, anyway, so if you’re going to take a withdrawal, you might as well wait until after the first test. Maybe it won’t be as hard as you’re expecting.”

Aang sighed. She was right. He hated when she was right. “Fine. I’ll stick it out through the first test, but can we please take a study break now?”

Thursday morning, Aang walked into the lecture hall, trying his best not to drag his feet. It took all of his determination that morning to make his way to class instead of staying holed up in his dorm, playing video games until he got hungry. But he’d promised Katara and he knew he would get an earful if he broke his promise. Maybe if he just pretended he was Katara for a period, he’d have more ease with the class. Katara wouldn’t sit in the back, as was his first impulse, she would sit in the very first row.

He compromised and sat about four rows back. Earbud in one ear, he set his notebook on the table and pulled out his phone, scrolling through the texts from his friends that he’d missed on his walk. He didn’t notice when a dark-haired girl sat in the seat next to him until she tapped on his notebook. Startled, he yanked out the earbud and looked at her. “Um, hello?”

The girl looked at him

(he couldn’t help but notice how pale her eyes were and the weird quality to her gaze that he couldn’t pinpoint)

and said, “You normally sit all the way in the back. What are you doing up here now? We haven’t even had a test. Did you get in trouble or something?”

His cheeks felt warm and he knew he was blushing. “No, I just felt like maybe I’d learn better closer to the front. This stuff has been kind of hard for me so far, I guess.”

The look on her face was a little unsettling, like she was staring straight through him. She finally shrugged, turning away from him. “What’s so hard about geology?”

“I don’t know. I guess science classes just don’t come very easily to me.”

“Well lucky for you, geology is, like, as easy as they get,” she said. He didn’t feel especially reassured, but smiled a little anyway.

“So what you’re saying is you’ll help me study?” Aang asked sheepishly.

She snorted, but replied, “Maybe I will. What’s your major, anyway?”

“Oh, um,” he stuttered, feeling the redness in his face deepening and rubbing his neck in embarrassment. “I was a zoology major, but right now I’m undeclared.” He wanted to ask her the same question, wanted suddenly to know everything about this brazen, somewhat guarded girl who had sat next to him (and had noticed that it was not his normal seat), but was cut off by the professor calling the class’s attention to the lectern.

Seventy-five painstaking minutes of trying

(and failing)

to pay attention to the powerpoint in front of him instead of the dark-haired girl leaned back in the seat next to him later, the class was dismissed. The girl had stood, grabbing her bag, and Aang panicked for a moment, trying to think of something to say. He finally settled on asking if he could walk her to her next class.

She paused, turning her head towards him. “Well, it’s all the way over in the Humanities building.”

“That’s okay, that’s on the way to my dorm, and I don’t have another class for an hour, anyway.” He swore he saw her smile as she rolled her eyes and said, “Fine. You can walk with me.”

They talked the whole way there, never seeming to run out of topics. He was disappointed at how short the walk felt, having so much more to ask her. He’d found out she was an architecture major with a lifelong special interest in geology, lived in the freshman dorms by the Physical Sciences lecture hall, and that despite being blind, she was as in-tune with her surroundings as anyone. It was only after they said their goodbyes that he realized he’d never learned her name.

Her name, as it turned out, was Toph.

Every Tuesday and Thursday over the next three weeks, they sat next to each other and Aang walked her to her next class. He actually found motivation to study his notes for the first time, if only for the fact that the recordings she shared with him featured their conversations in the background of the lecture.

Once, he had been running late after sleeping through his alarms, and while his first impulse had been to go back to sleep and skip his first class of the day, he bolted out of bed and rushed to get dressed, worrying that someone would take his seat next to Toph.

(or worse, she wouldn’t even notice)

He nearly ran all the way across campus. Heart pounding, he snuck through the doorway as the professor lectured on and slipped into his usual seat next to Toph. She lifted her head; something he couldn’t quite place flashed over her face.

(relief?)

“Finally decided to show up, huh?” she whispered.

He started to explain himself, but stopped short, deciding on a better way to embarrass himself. “Yeah. I got caught up trying to figure out why you’re so good at this class.”

“Did you figure it out?”

“It’s because you don’t take anything for granite.” He looked over to catch the way the corner of her lips tugged upwards through the taken-aback look on her face.

“That was awful. Don’t do that again,” she hissed at him.

“Okay, okay,” he conceded, chuckling to himself. “You know what I would’ve been if I hadn’t shown up today?”

“What’s that?”

“A skipping stone.”

The irritated expression she wore intensified, fending off the smile he so desperately wanted to see. “Seriously, you have got to stop doing that. I don’t like puns, especially when they’re that bad.”

“My sediments exactly.” He almost expected her to hit him, but was delighted to hear a giggle escape. A warm feeling spread through his chest and he knew then that he would spend every last moment he had for the rest of her life trying to make her laugh again.

“You guys!” Aang exclaimed, slamming the door to Sokka’s apartment closed a little harder than he had meant to. He continued into the living room, all but throwing himself onto the couch next to Katara without so much as a “hello” to her, Sokka, or Suki. “I had the most amazing date today.”

Sokka looked up from where he sat, getting his hair braided, between Suki’s legs. “You had a date? With who?”

“Was it that girl from your geology class?” Katara asked.

“Yes! Her name is Toph and I finally got her number and we’ve been talking, like, non-stop,” he blurted all at once.

“Slow down!” Katara giggled. “Are you going to tell us about the date?”

“Right, so I’ve sat next to her in geology since I’ve been wanting to do better in that class. That’s been a bad idea as far as paying more attention, but spirits, it’s been the best. I was almost late this morning because I slept through my alarms.” Seeing the admonishing look on Katara’s face, he added, “I actually got up as soon as I realized and went to class, don’t worry, Momtara. Anyway, I got to class just as the prof was starting the powerpoint, and when I first walked in, I was worried someone else might have taken the seat next to her that I’ve been sitting in, but no one had. And she actually seemed like she was looking for me. I mean, she can’t see, but still, when I finally got there and sat down, I swear it looked like she was happy to see me.”

Not leaving room for Sokka to make a disparaging joke, Aang recounted the jokes he’d told her,

how she’d acted like she’d hated them, but he’d caught her snickering a few times.

“So you asked her out after class?” Suki asked.

Aang blushed and ran a hand through his short hair. “Not exactly.” He held up his hands in protest of his friends’ exclamations. “I always walk her to her next class because it’s on the way to my dorm and I always want to keep talking to her. Well, we get all the way to the Humanities building and she looks at me and says, ‘I don’t really feel like going to this class today.’”

“She skipped class?” Suki asked with a mock-scandalous tone. “Maybe you two are meant for each other.”

“I know!” Aang said, ignoring the jab entirely. “And, Katara, don’t give me that look. I would have convinced her to go to class, but the opportunity was there and I couldn’t pass up taking her to lunch.” Grinning, he told them about how Toph had loosened up while they ate, even agreeing to try his favorite vegan restaurant in the main commons, how cute she was when she smiled at him. She had even agreed to a study date the following night.

He couldn’t wipe the smile from his face when he asked, “So would you guys be okay if she came to hang out with us this weekend?”
