dean winchester and autism because this man is autistic and i will not accept otherwise:
his reaction to sam giving him the giant slinky at the end of 7x14 'plucky pennywhistle's magical menagerie'
actually physically stimming when he enters the bunker with sam in 15x14 'last holiday' and sees the christmas decorations
the boxing episode, 11x15 'beyond the mat', where dean spends the entire episode fanboying and (for lack of a better word) plays in the boxing ring
wearing the same thing (flannel, jeans, in earlier seasons the leather jacket) almost all of the time while not in disguise to work cases
eating the same thing (cheeseburger with extra onions or pie) at almost everywhere they go, as often as he can (about dean winchester and food, i could talk about that for hours he has so many issues with it and it's all john winchester's fault)
his ability to recite movies line for line, and his tendency to communicate almost entirely through references and movie quotes, and expecting people to understand what he means
about references, he makes jokes and references when it's not appropriate, he doesn't understand that something isn't appropriate in a situation where it isn't specifically pointed out to him, and he generally has a pretty messed up sense of empathy and inability to 'read the room'
‘you’re always calling me a geek, but you know every word to every led zeppelin song, backwards and forwards. you can discuss in detail every major rock drummer between ’67 and ’84… and you watch ‘jeopardy!’ every night.’ - directly quoted from sam winchester in 14x20 'moriah'
in 13x06 'tombstone' when they go into the motel and dean talks about the cowboys, identifying all of them and going into quite a bit of detail about a few of them, even though nobody asked him about it and he is absolutely infodumping. 'he really likes cowboys.' 'yes. yes, he does.'
his knowledge of cars, particularly baby, and how he takes her for a ride when he's sad because of the comfort she provides him. also about baby and comfort, the way he offers to let people drive baby when he realises that they're sad, thinking it'll make them feel better as she makes him happy and he doesn't understand how else to help
in 1x03 'dead in the water' he talks to lucas about how he didn't speak as a kid, he plays with the toy soldiers and it doesn't come across as playing with them to make lucas trust him, it actually comes across as him finding genuine enjoyment in it
in 1x15 'the benders' when he's talking to the kid who mentions godzilla, dean brightens immediately and goes off topic talking about his favourite godzilla film, and has to be reminded that he's working a case by sam
the entirety of 14x04 'mint condition', how dean gets to express his interests and be himself and how a lot of people have mentioned that he seems to be genuinely himself in that episode instead of the act he puts on
larping with charlie, no explanation needed
he shuts down when things go badly, often blasting music and ignoring everything and everyone around him
he always picks scissors when playing rock, paper, scissors, and it's actually something that comes up multiple times within the show - in 2x17 'heart', sam says, 'dean, always with the scissors,' and along the same lines, his excitement both times he actually wins the game
in 1x04 'phantom traveller', dean is terrified because of the plane and sam points out that he's humming metallica. he replies that it calms him down, and that just seems very autistic

shocker i'm thinking about jj maybank again
moving into season 3 which is apparently gonna focus more on mental health for all the pogues, but definitely for JJ as he tries to navigate Kie having feelings for him, i'm just thinking a lot about how he receives and shows love throughout the show so far.
he loves the pogues so fucking much and he shows it often and in a couple different ways. he expresses a lot of it through touches (which fucking breaks my heart considering the abuse that he's suffered), and a bit less so through words of affirmation (i will never forget the time that he told John B that he loved him in 1x10 and then John B didn't say it back), but the love language i'm most interested in is acts of service.
JJ is always throwing himself in the line of fire and coming up with plans and jumping into the fray and doing risky shit to try to help the pogues, even if they don't see it as being very helpful sometimes.
he pulls the gun on Topper in 1x01, he steps up and kills the rooster (rip) to protect the pogues' hiding spot in 1x02, he saves Pope from the dog in 1x03, he takes the fall for Pope in 1x04, he takes the money from Barry in 1x07 partially to act as reparations for him traumatizing the pogues by holding them at gunpoint, he gets the Phantom for John B in 1x10 despite having to suffer through another Luke encounter, he's ready to get into a shootout with the cops in 2x04 to protect John B, literally the entirety of 2x05, he consistently places himself between various pogues and people that are trying to hurt them (Barry, Rafe, Renfield, Eberhimi), do i need to go on????
he clearly shows a lot of his love through action, and i can't stop thinking about how it feels like maybe he's so outward with that expression because he's constantly trying to prove his worth to the pogues. not because they ever make him feel like he needs to, but because he genuinely cannot understand why anyone would love him unconditionally. he has to feel like he's earned it somehow. so he's always the first to put himself in danger for them, he's always got a plan at the ready, he's so depressingly willing to ruin his life or even throw it away altogether to keep them safe.
there's a moment in 2x10 when John B and Pope are trying to get JJ to stay in the container with Kie while they go out onto the ship and scout for the cross and try to get weapons from the armory. and JJ is so fucking offended and annoyed, he even rips his arm away from John B as he's pulling him away from the window. and yes, maybe you can just say that it's because he's hot-headed and eager for action, which are both definitely true, but why is he so eager for this action in particular? because it's another way for him to prove his usefulness in the group, to prove that he deserves their love, and John B is taking it away from him. it was JJ's plan to begin with, too, which just makes it sting even more now that he's not gonna be able to execute it. it's definitely a blow to his ego and his flimsy self-worth that relies so heavily on performing these acts of service for this friends.
there's an even smaller moment just before that one when Kie initially finds the window and suggests it as their way out of the container, and JJ makes a point to say "what was that about a Swiss army knife not coming in handy?" he had failed to find a way out for his friends, so he overcompensates by making sure that they know that he's still useful because he has the tool to actually get the panel off of the window and allow them to use it as an escape route.
so what does all this mean for season 3??? it means i'm gonna die it means that i'm gonna need to see Kie using acts of service as at least one of the methods of expressing her affection for him. physical touch and words of affirmation, too, but i really think that those actions are gonna hit JJ the hardest because he's so used to doing them for other people. and he will absolutely spiral if Kie's suddenly doing them for him cause he'll know exactly what it means. she'll be speaking his language. and it'll just freak him out all the more cause it'll reinforce that she really does know him so well, just like how well he knows her.

A reflection on season 1
Going into this rewatch, I really wanted to challenge my old opinions of it (specifically the opinion that s3 takes what was best about s1 and improves it) and see if I could walk away with a new perspective.  I know that there are plenty of fans who believe that there’s something special about s1 that hasn’t been recaptured in following seasons, so I also wanted to identify what it is distinguishes s1 from the rest of the series and decide, as objectively as possible, if it truly is the best season, as many have claimed.
To get to the point: no, this isn’t the best season in objective terms.  It has flaws and weaknesses, just like the next two, but I definitely notice a big difference in the overall feel of the show compared to s3.  In this regard, I can understand how personal preference might sway viewers to prefer one over the other.  It’s far simpler in its concept, so it ends up just being a show about some normal theater kids putting on High School Musical.  Its simplicity allows for some moments to breathe a bit more than s3 does (though I think the 10-episode season helps), but there’s also a lot more awkwardness and emptiness between moments in the earlier episodes.  I was really surprised at how slow the first few episodes felt to me, and it wasn’t until 1x04 that I felt as though the show was going somewhere.  My personal feelings on this are largely due to Nini’s storyline being the focus in those first few episodes, and it’s not until Ricky’s struggle with his home life (which I would consider the emotional core of the show) gets more focus that things felt like they were starting to move.  There’s a clear shift in the direction of the show in 1x05 (and in my opinion, a shift towards something much deeper), but the show doesn’t fully commit to this shift through the rest of the season.  This shift is threefold: the positive progression of Ricky’s growth from his relationship with Gina, the expansion of character focus beyond Nini or Ricky, and the reveal that Nini lacked a sense of true identity in her romantic relationships.  The direction of Ricky and Nini’s arcs are never resolved, and they’re actually regressed by the conclusion of this season.  While I believe this is intentional, the framing of the conclusion is still trying to evoke a sense of celebration and triumph, making the conclusion feel really manufactured and jarring when it stands on its own.  This is why, after my first viewing in 2019, I didn’t rewatch the season until s3 aired... it simply cannot effectively stand on its own.  I’ll get to my opinions on how it compares to future seasons in those analyses, because I do have more to say on that.
Something very interesting I wanted to point out: Gina is always shown to offer the consolation and comfort Ricky is looking for in Nini, and when Nini has the opportunity to give Ricky emotional support, it’s shown that she doesn’t understand his struggle.  Throughout the entirety of 1x04, every person Ricky turns to for comfort are incapable of giving him the emotional support he needs, and this includes Nini.  The emotional poignancy of the episode is that the only thing that can make Ricky feel safe is returning home to his mom and listening to HSM, signaling that theater is becoming a new safe space to him.  This is notion is made deeper in the next episode, when Gina, to his surprise, empathizes with him in a way no one else had.  In 1x07, Ricky wants to call Nini after Todd answers the phone, but Gina shows up and offers him the comfort he was never expecting.  Then in the last 2 episodes, we see Ricky frantically try to contact Nini after Todd shows up, only for Gina Porter to give him the consolation he needs and also successfully encourage him to show up for his cast and walk back into the gym.  In 1x08, we see Ricky’s eyes light up with surprise for a moment when Nini says “I get it,” when he apologized for his behavior on Thanksgiving, but her next lines reveal that she actually doesn’t get it at all.
Last comment: I was shocked at how little Gina was actually in this season.  EJ actually leads more plotlines than she does, technically making her more of a supporting character (even though her character arc is much stronger than his, imo).  She is the antagonist the first 4 episodes, so she really only has focus when she’s disrupting Nini’s storyline or scheming with EJ.  Then, she becomes the character to further Ricky’s growth and storyline for the rest of her appearances.  Despite her appearances being more limited, her presence is so strongly felt this season, which I think really speaks to Sofia Wylie’s screen presence and strength as an actor.  Honestly, not a single minute is wasted with her screen-time.  It's seriously to the show’s benefit that she becomes the female lead in the following seasons, because her character was already upstaging others.  I honestly think Sofia’s performance is what gave Gina so much depth and richness in s1, so she is without a doubt the MVP of this season.

Nathan Shelley: A Defense
Who deserves empathy? Who deserves judgement?
I am not surprised but still disappointed by how much people seem to be really missing one of the central themes of Ted Lasso. It is not as bad as it was back in October when the finale aired, but god, there are still so many people that seem to want Nate to get no redemption and, in various ways, continually express no interest in seeing him become the best version of himself. A lot of people seem to want Nate to get his comeuppance, to see him suffer, ironically behaving a lot like Nate when he got to see the people who had wronged him suffer and receive their comeuppance.
For a show about the healing, transformative power of forgiveness, love and empathy, dang do some people stop short when it comes to Nate, arguably the most demeaned, bullied, downtrodden character in the entire show. Redemption and forgiveness for Rebecca, who tried to destroy dozens of careers and lives, and Jamie, who behaved like shit to the people he saw as beneath him, but none for Nate? So, we have three characters who have used their power incorrectly, but only one of them is the outlier who deserves judgement and retribution?
Alright, got that rant out of the way. Now I want to specifically address a thing I’ve seen that is utterly baffling. I’ve seen people argue that Jamie’s and Rebecca’s respective journeys are different than Nate’s because we saw them get better, whereas we saw Nate get worse. We didn’t see Rebecca and Jamie getting to the dark place they were in by S1; we landed on the start of their positive trajectory. The difference is that we are watching the entirety of that story play out with Nate.
Another argument I’ve seen is that the show hinted at Jamie’s and Rebecca’s good natures in S1, whereas we apparently saw the opposite with Nate. So, basically, Nate doesn’t deserve redemption because he got worse and his truly bad nature was hinted at early on. This implies something utterly ridiculous: that he was always bad, that Nate did not actually have positive traits to begin with. And that’s just… I can’t even cope with how wrong that is.
Selective memory for sure, so let’s go back to season 1 and remember why we love Nate and why his turn is so devastating.
In 1x01, Nate defends Roy’s great legacy as a footballer when Beard suggests his star years might be behind him. He gives Ted and Beard a lift to their places. Nate is loyal and generous with his time. He is also clearly self-conscious and lacks confidence, but he works hard and takes pride in his job.
In 1x02, Nate is still showing surprise that Ted is even deigning to notice him, let alone asking after his opinion. Nate says Sam has been ‘underperforming’ since he arrived from Nigeria. That’s a very generous thing to say; it’s clear he knows Sam has potential, but something is getting in the way of his success. This helps Ted make some great coaching decisions. Nate is smart and good at reading people. He also makes adorable boxes with his niece. A few of the players laugh at him for having done this. Jamie also calls him “bitch boy” to ringing laughter, and it doesn’t seem like it’s remotely the first time.
In 1x03, Nate nervously but bravely shares his idea for a strategy. He is speechless with joy when he gets to see it in action. He also shows that he cares whether the pitch is properly taken care of. He’s the kit man; presumably, he is not responsible for clearing shit off the field, but he does it anyway. We also see tinges of that in his first scene - caring about the field the players use. In the midst of all this, we also see that Nate is being bullied and harassed by Jamie, Colin and Isaac every day, and that no one has intervened, even Ted, who has decided Roy has to be the one to intervene.
In 1x04, when Ted invites Nate to be his plus one to the gala, Nate says, “I’m free every night.” As Jason has said, jokes on this show have consequences. This illuminates for us that Nate spends a lot of time on his own and even suggests Nate may not have many friends. We also learn that Nate can’t afford to buy a new suit. He later shows some gaining confidence when he says hello to Rebecca and a marked amount of grace considering she doesn’t appear to recognize him or realize he works for her. Later, Nate thanks Roy for talking to Colin and Isaac.
In 1x05, Nate encourages Ted to open up about the problems in his marriage by asking about the distance, but he does so in a very gentle way, asking if he can ask something first. He’s also self-aware enough to notice and apologize when he inadvertently provided unsolicited feedback on something with which he doesn’t have experience: “Marriage. Just so, you know, so complicated. So many different challenges and... I think. I don't know. Sorry.” Then he makes a smart conversational move to bring Beard into the discussion. “You ever been married?” After they win the match, Nate also walks Henry on to the pitch to see Ted after the game, reuniting father and son.
In 1x06, Nate participates in the ritual with the team, sacrificing sunglasses that made him feel perceived in a positive way. He is honest and contributes positively to the group.
In 1x07, Nate says he believes Richmond can do anything; he believes in the team and their ability to succeed. He has thoughts about the team, but he is scared to share them because he believes it could lead to losing his job and having to move back in with his parents. He also instantly accepts Ted’s apology, and once he’s finished the roast portion of his pre-game speech (which Ted encourages him to give), he provides Roy with genuinely good advice, not just on the field but in life, to make sure he isn’t keeping his anger inside because of what it might do to him as a person if he holds it in. He cares about Roy and his well-being.
In 1x08, Nate is supportive of Ted’s one night stand, like Beard and Higgins. And when Beard asks if Ted had fun, Nate immediately follows up to ask if *she* had fun. He also comes up with the name for the Diamond Dogs.
In 1x09, Nate apologizes for walking away from Ted over the Roy situation and for his dream self.
In 1x10, he believes he has been fired and lashes out. He is surprised Rebecca even knows his name, an echo of the first episode, and it turns out he has been promoted. He is so excited about this that he keeps blowing his whistle at inopportune times out of zeal. Later, he mourns the loss with the team.
I just have no patience for people suggesting Nate isn’t the wonderful character we saw so many hints of in S1, alongside the signs that Nate might lose his way for a minute. All of us have the capacity to hurt and help within us; we are all struggling with the tug between ego and soul. The idea that Rebecca and Jamie deserved redemption but Nate doesn't is not only a terrible message for the show to end on, it’s also a bleak way to look at the world. Either we all deserve redemption, or no one does - or more accurately, it's not about deserving redemption but about earning it. That is what Rebecca and Jamie have been doing along the way, so it’s not too late for Nathan Shelley. He can, as Rebecca said in 1x09, get on the road back.
We are all worthy of love and empathy because we are human and make mistakes. We hurt people because we are damaged by interacting with a broken, human world. This show presents the central thesis that kindness and empathy is transformative, and that wanting violent revenge and retribution is an ego-driven desire borne out by pain and suffering.
We need to appeal to our best selves, always, by returning to our greatest strength: love.

Eliza Scarlet's Outfits in Miss Scarlet & The Duke S1-3
A Visual Guide
Disclaimer: This is primarily based off of me going through my caps, and there's always a chance I have missed something and/or typoed.
I have lightened some of the caps, but I did not recolor them, so they might still appear darker to you depending on your device.
You'll also see that some outfits photograph/films differently in different lighting, etc.
And obviously I don't include every scene an outfit is worn in the collages; it's just examples, outside of the first and last appearance caps.
(also I didn't label some of episode stills because originally I was just uploading the original files, but then had to make them collages too when I ran out of room. And sorry William et al., I had to crop you out at times).
I also did not really keep track of when she changes up her ties or hats with outfits, but she doesn't really mix and match until S2.
Open the images in a new tab if on desktop to get the larger image to zoom in.
Tumblr media
The first outfit we see Eliza in ever (1x01), and the bit used in the opening sequence
The outfit in some S1 keyart images, but most were her other main outfit
We don't get to see what this outfit looks like without the jacket and thus don't really get to see the blouse
Makes it into S2, but the last we see of it is in 2x01 when then it falls victim to the pigeon incident.
However its final appearance is in the HANDS scene (well technically right after), so it does go out in a blaze of glory
Seen in 1x01-4, 2x01
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The black funeral dress (1x01)
Only worn in the two scenes in the cemetery
(again it gets to be part of an iconic Wiliza scene at least)
Seen in 1x01
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other blue outfit from S1
What she is wearing in the main S1 keyart and PBS DVD cover
We don't get to see what this outfit looks like without the jacket and thus don't really get to see the blouse. She does appear to be wearing a different blouse with it at times though (e.g. 1x06 is a different blouse from 1x01)
While she wears it in almost every episode of S1, she notably wears this almost the entirety of 1x06, making its last real appearance in the scene where she has William apologize to Moses.
It is also the outfit that she is wearing in all three of the photographs of adult!Eliza in the show (1x06, 2x03, 2x06), so its technical last appearance in 2x06
There's an edited version of this outfit that's red and used in other keyart (it is not the red outfit from 1x06)
Seen in all S1 episodes except 1x05; appears in photographs in 2x03 and 2x06 as well
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A burgundy ensemble that's only worn twice, both times in S1
The burgundy skirt is possibly the same skirt that goes with the outfit that’s actually in all three seasons
First seen when she goes to find Clara Simms; she wears it through being released from Scotland Yard the next morning. This version she has a choker on.
In 1x02, she wears it with a cloak at the beginning of the episode, and that's its last appearance
Seen in 1x01, 1x02
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The burgundy dress that Eliza says in 1x02 is her best dress, that she specially wears to catch William's eye
She first wears it in 1x02, to try to get William to give her a case
Its last appearance is in 2x06, when her and William were going to go to dinner together
Seen in 1x02, 1x03, 2x01, 2x06
Tumblr media
The burgundy skirt outfit is the only one of her outfits to appear in all three seasons
We actually first see it without the jacket on (1x03), and we know what the blouses she wears with it look like
It's only outfit she wears in 1x05 ("Cell 99"), including without the jacket
She mixes and matches hats and ties with this outfit starting in 2x01, as well as sometimes has on a different blouse (likely the one that goes with the green outfit).
In S3, she does sometimes wear a navy blue cloak over it, like she does many of her outfits that season
Its last appearance has been 3x05, without the jacket on, drinking with Ivy
Seen in 1x03, 1x04, 1x05, 2x01, 2x04, 3x01, 3x02, 3x04, 3x05
Tumblr media
The nightgown in 1x04
Also notably the only time Eliza's hair isn't in a bun (barring flashbacks to Young Eliza)
She's only in this for two connective scenes
Seen in 1x04
Tumblr media
The actual Scarlet outfit
Only appears at the end of 1x06, when Eliza is in her office and William comes to take her to dinner
Seen in 1x06
Tumblr media
The green outfit
First seen in 2x01, as Ivy is pinning the hem. We first see it without the jacket, and get a good look at the blouse she tends to wear with it. This blouse is also used with other outfits.
She first wears the whole outfit together in 2x02
Comparative to other outfits, she doesn't seem to switch up the hat (or blouse)
This outfit carries over into S3, with its last appearance in the scene at Arabella's house having tea at the end of 3x05
Seen in every S2 episode except 2x03; 3x01, 3x05
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The burgundy and gray one with velvet trim
First appears in 2x01, in the pub with the guy from the Wentworth's shop
She seems to wear the same blouse as with the green outfit
It has a waistcoat, and we do see her several times without the jacket on
Its last appearance is in the flashback to her office in 3x03.
Seen in 2x01, 2x02, 2x04, 2x05; 3x03
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Navy blue outfit with waistcoat
First seen in 2x02, when she goes looking for the insurance firm
We do see her several times without the jacket on
In S2 she wears it with a blouse that has a collar that's trying to mimic a men's double round collar (the style William wears)
Notably, this is the only outfit she wears in 2x03
This outfit makes a reappearance in 3x03, with a different and stripped blouse. It's the outfit she wears the whole episode (barring the flashback), and she only has the jacket on in her first and final scenes of the episode, plus the wool cloak.
In 3x05, it's back to the collared blouse, and last seen when Eliza and William talk after Crabtree's arrested
Seen in 2x02, 2x03, 2x04, 2x06, 3x01, 3x03, 3x05
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The blue evening dress
First scene for Hattie's engagement party in 2x06, and she does not wear any adornment on it then
In 3x02, which is the second and last time that she wears it, she has pinned her mother's brooch to the middle of the neckline
Both instances of her wearing it, she also wears a small shawl/cape with velvet trim when she is outside
Its final appearance is when they go back inside of Arabella‘s restaurant after the brooch is stolen
Seen in 2x06, 3x02
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jacket with the brass buttons
Oddly enough, we first see her in this outfit in the S2 keyart, but it (and most of their clothing/whole image) has been edited to be red
It first appears in the show at the end of 3x01. First we see Eliza in the kitchen without the jacket on, and then in the next, and final scene of the episode in William's office with the jacket on
The blouse has some blue in it
She does occasionally have the thick wool cloak on with this, as well as an apron
Its last appearance is in the final scene of 3x06, at Nash's office
Seen 3x01, 3x02, 3x04, 3x05, 3x06
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blue outfit with the navy blue blouse
This is the outfit that she has on in the S3 keyart
Eliza first wears the skirt in 3x02 when she has to change after being pushed down, but she wears it with the lacy white blouse she usually wears with the green outfit (she's also in this blouse again when she bakes the cake with Ivy)
But she wears the usual combination later in the episode when she returns to Arabella's to speak with her
She also occasionally wears the wool cloak over it, as well as an apron
Its last appearance thus far has been when she and Moses go to see Solomon in 3x06
Seen in 3x02, 3x04, 3x05, 3x06
Tumblr media
Bonus! Young Eliza
Same outfit in both flashbacks
It appears to be the same outfit in the photo on Henry/Eliza's wall (makes sense)
Seen in 1x01, and anytime there is a close up of the photograph (1x06 features last true close up of it)

The Wilds: Season 1 Rewatch
SPOILER WARNINGS – While it is an episode recap, there may be spoilers for the entirety of season 1 of The Wilds. Continue reading at your own risk if you haven’t seen all of it yet.
1x01 Recap
1x02 Recap
1x03 Recap
1x04 Recap
1x05 Recap
1x06 + 1x07 Recap
The Wilds | 1x08: Day Sixteen + 1x09: Day Twenty-Two
Favorite Quote
“I might be a horny bitch, but I’m not going to scrub my teeth and my labia with the same brush.” — Fatin Jadmani
“Not bad. I mean it looks like you get your hair cut at salon staffed by toddlers, but not bad.” — Toni Shalifoe
Personal Highlights of the Episode
(1x08)
Fatin’s reaction when Leah goes on her tangent in the Morning America reenactment. It screamed, “girl, we talked about this. Stfu” lol
The girls high af is the funniest thing
Tumblr media
All of Shelby’s scenes. They’re brutal, vulnerable, intense. Mia’s acting was great, the storyline was great. The buildup to Shelby’s mental/emotional break was gradual all season and really made it seem authentic and real… probably my favorite episode of season one.
(1x09)
Leah confiding in Fatin. These girls have bonded so much from start to finish. Short of Martha/Toni and Rachel/Nora, all these girls came to the island with little to no history and now they can be vulnerable, show their dark side and not worry about the ramifications of doing so.
Leah’s mental break (again) and that Leatin moment.
Tumblr media
Lychee tree. Need I say more.
Tumblr media
Things I Didn't Catch the First Time
(1x08)
Shelby reciting the prayer that her father says when he holds the meeting to ‘help’ Kyle with his sins.
“God made you this way, and God only does beautiful.” Yet, the fact she’s gay when God made her that way is a sin. Dave, you’re talking in circles my man.
The cross necklaces Shelby wears in her flashbacks aren’t the same as the one she wears now. Also, Shelby doesn’t have her cross necklace on in the interviews, but she still has her earring in, so the agents couldn’t have confiscated their jewelry, or they would have taken that too, right? This may be a sign to where Shelby’s headspace is regarding her religion at that point in time.
(1x09)
Fatin straight cheesing when Leah is spouting her crazy before dashing into the water.
Tumblr media
Observations / Theories / Questions
(1x08)
Do you think Nora knew Gretchen would have intervened with the pilot, or do you think she was genuinely excited about being rescued at this point?
Shelby drank like half of the liquor that was in the bottle after Dot handed it over to her. I would've been done in after like 3 sips.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Uh oh, shark week for Rachel.” – oh, you have no idea Fatin.
Shelby with all them posters of girls on her wall. Uh huh, that lines up.
When Shelby takes her teeth out in front of the agents, the break in the plastic is quite evident. I wonder if that means anything or it’s just representing that she was the one unsettled in her skin and now she’s more comfortable with herself (otherwise she would have hidden her fake teeth like she did with the girls at first)
(1x09)
Doctor Ted… despicable. It’s always the ones you least expect too.
As someone with absolutely zero rhythm, watching people dance is always fascinating to me
The fact that it took nine episodes until someone decided to sharpen a branch into a weapon. Nine episodes and twenty-two days.
Toni is a teddy bear when she’s crushing. She’s like a sour patch kid – sour, then sweet.
Tumblr media
Rachel only diving in the water when it was about someone else and not her. It really shows what kind of character she has deep down. Rough exterior at times, but genuinely cares for her people.
It’s to be assumed that Martha gave up dancing, correct? Just another reason to hate that mf’ing ‘doctor’.
Tumblr media
I actually kind of like Agent Young. I hope he’s not actually a piece of shit. I feel like he and Alex (Susan too, perhaps) may be the only redeemable people on Gretchen’s team going forward.
Is the goat a parallel to Martha losing her innocence/abandoning her ‘fantasy’ world? Or am I just missing something bigger here?
Field Notes
(1x08)
Field Note #092 – For those playing along, this is the second time we’ve seen Fatin use a random object as a fake “microphone.” First her toothbrush, now Martha’s hairbrush. It’s something she’s done since she was little; in her living room wall there’s a photo of her at four years old, hosting a fashion show using a red-white-and-blue Bomb Pop as a microphone.
Field Note #093 – The surviving girls have all been issued comfortable clothing for their quarantined recovery. Something interesting to note: Shelby and Rachel have been issued sweatshirts of the same color.
Field Note #094 – Back home in Texas, Shelby blew out and straightened her hair every day.
Field Note #095 – Shelby’s dad owns this faith-based spinning studio, which is called All Rise Cycling.
Field Note #100 – The bowling alley is one of the main hangouts for high schoolers in Fort Travis, Shelby’s hometown. On weekend nights, it’s basically either that, the all-night diner off the highway, or a patch of woods next to the cemetery that everyone calls “The Smoke Hole.”
Field Note #101 – Becca’s all-time high bowling score? 249. Shelby’s? 94.
Field Note #103 – Toni is a collector of mementos. She’s got a cigar box full of souvenirs that she carries with her whenever she moves to a new home.
(1x09)
Field Note #109 – To describe her after-school drink of choice, Martha says “pop,” which gives her away as a Midwesterner. Based on where they live, here’s a breakdown of how our girls refer to sugary carbonated beverages: Martha and Toni say “pop”; Rachel, Nora, Fatin, and Leah say “soda”; Shelby says “coke.”
Field Note #111 – Nora’s fishing net is made from suitcase mesh.
Field Note #112 – Nora was a pioneer of the thumb-holes-in-sleeves look at her middle school. She used to cut the holes herself and reinforce the edges with a needle and thread until it became a style and you could buy shirts with pre-made ones.
Field Note #114 – Shelby has already mentioned that she once took down a ten-point buck. Her dad offered to have its head stuffed and mounted, but Shelby declined. She told him it wouldn’t match the aesthetic of her room… but deep down, something bothered her about celebrating the death of an animal in that way.
Field Note #115 – This is Martha’s first year not having to share a room with her sisters. She got her brother’s room when he moved out. In the ridiculously hot summer of 2014, one of his sticks of deodorant melted into the carpet. If you sniff deeply enough, you can still detect a whiff of pine-scented endurance anti-perspirant.
Field Note #116 – Toni is demonstrating experienced wilderness peeing position: butt behind the heels, knees behind the toes, peeing down an incline so it doesn’t splash back on her.

let’s talk about perfuma. imo, she’s one of the best characters in the show despite being underdeveloped, and i wanna explain why. she could’ve been extremely average, just some lanky flower girl that doesn’t believe in violence and loves everyone, but she is so much more than that (and it pisses me off that y’all reduce her to that).
in her introductory episode, perfuma is clearly in denial about the horde almost destroying plumeria. she doesn’t want to acknowledge the problem, wants someone else to take care of it for her. she’s scared of change, and that is because change makes you vulnerable. if things always stay the same, there’s a whole lot less danger and uncertainty, and therefore you’re safe. secure. perfuma’s kingdom is dying and she can’t bear to accept it because it is unknown to her. it’s putting her in a position where she is no longer secure. this fear of vulnerability can also be seen at the beginning of 1x10 when the princess alliance falls apart and she literally says ‘being together makes us vulnerable.’
the thing is, perfuma isn’t wrong. look at her choice of words. she says that being together makes them vulnerable, not weak. here, she kind of has the words mixed up, but we see that by s5 she has come to understand the difference. that’s what’s so great about perfuma, her motivation to do better, her hunger for self-improvement. it’s why she’s such an important part of catra’s redemption, actually, because she embodies the kind person catra is or wants to be.
let me explain: perfuma is an angry, impatient, short-tempered character. we are shown this again and again with her passive aggression to others and how easily mermista can annoy her with trivial things (sitting in her seat in the war room, for example). catra is also an angry, impatient character, but perfuma works every day to manage those emotions. she knows she needs them, she uses them as a tool (calling catra out, for example, is a time they were practically pivotal for getting her point across) but she also acknowledges they can hurt the people she loves. we know she does a meditation ritual each morning and we see in 4x02 how quickly she can unravel without it. she wants to be better. she puts the work in. that is such a valuable lesson for a character like catra who has always felt she’s just not good enough, she’s always going to be this angry and unlovable and no one can do anything about it.
so, 4x02. it’s a brilliant episode for perfuma’s character, really, and the first proper development we’ve had since 1x04. we see her anger, her impatience, but we also see her self-doubt. her belief that she’s inadequate, ‘just a flower girl.’ this is also when we get introduced to her little mantra that becomes a bit of a motif later on, ‘i can do this.’ we know perfuma doesn’t wholeheartedly believe this, but she says it anyway because she wants to. perfuma wants to be better. she will do whatever she can to be her best self, whether that be actually conquering her gripes with cacti or realising there’s a loophole with the roots (love that conflict resolution by the way, another good deconstruction of hero bs by spop).
this episode is also significant because it comes back to perfuma’s fear of change, of vulnerability. she’s thrown into a situation she doesn’t want to be in, one she feels miserably unprepared for, and she hasn’t done the one thing that puts her at her best beforehand, but she pulls through in the end because she is surrounded by people that support her, that listened to her and consoled her when she was vulnerable. 4x02 teaches perfuma the power of self-worth and the power of true, mutual, unconditional love, which can only come with vulnerability.
and this is where her character gets really interesting, in my humble opinion. ngl, one of the reasons i love perfuma so much is because she’s a pisces and i am too. i’m not gonna go astrology hoe on you rn, i’m just using this to demonstrate the part of her character that teaches others. pisces, if you don’t know, love to play therapist. we like to help the people around us with whatever strifes they may have because we think we’re fucking great at it. perfuma actually is.
you know how i said perfuma learns the importance of self-belief and vulnerability? yeah, she teaches both of those lessons to other characters in s5. like i said, perfuma is a character who values self-betterment and also happens to be a pisces, so when she sees scorpia, riddled with so much self-doubt and such low self-esteem, her immediate response is just i’m gonna teach that bitch how to love herself. and she does!
i’ve seen some people say they don’t like scorfuma because it seemed as though the writers just decided to ‘fix’ all of scorpia’s problems by giving her a girlfriend. that’s very dumb, first of all because they aren’t even together by the end of the show, they’re just interested in one another. second, the whole point of she-ra is that we’re stronger together. scorpia doesn’t go through growth in s5 because a girl likes her, she goes through growth because someone is showing her support and love for the first time in her life and that empowers her. you know, the worth that scorpia finds in herself doesn’t hinge on perfuma, like it did with catra. it’s about her as an individual, and perfuma so clearly makes it about that when her big lesson revolves around singing. scorpia loves singing. perfuma tells her she should do it because she enjoys it, a sentiment you’d never hear in the horde, and when scorpia does sing, she is actively rejecting the people who did make all her self-worth hinge on them catra. she’s doing something for herself, because she enjoys it, because it makes her happy, because she can.
it’s that same mantra: i can do this, i can do this. i really love how this was brought back from 4x02, how perfuma repurposed something that taught her such a valuable lesson for someone else. perfuma and scorpia are great foil characters actually, both constantly underestimated and thought of as weak by their groups, but some of the strongest characters in the show due to their deep value of love and self. i can do this, and i know i can because you believe in me, because i believe in myself. it’s brought back again in 5x10, when the last thing perfuma says before scorpia breaks the beam is ‘i know you can [pull through]’. she tells catra she believes in scorpia. it’s that belief, that support from other people that empowers the self to believe it too. we are stronger together, you know??
anyways, onto vulnerability. return to the fright zone is in my top ten episodes of the whole fucking show and you might think that’s a bit weird but i don’t. 5x10 encompasses so many important themes of spop so well and tells them with scorfuma and spinnetossa, our two side lesbian couples. this is significant since perfuma literally draws a parallel between her and catra at the end of the episode, and catradora and spinnetossa have always been significant to one another. i’m gonna say it, perfuma is the reason catra is finally able to confess to adora in 5x13. i’ve already talked about how important perfuma is to catra’s motivation to improve, but she literally makes catra rethink everything about strength and vulnerability, two words catra has a lot of feelings about.
catra fears vulnerability. we know this. she has such a deep love for those important to her but is never able to articulate it because she worries she’ll be taken advantage of, shot down, laughed at, whatever. all of this stems from the abuse she suffered at shadow weaver’s hands and her attachment issues, and it’s also why catra pretends to hate scorpia’s very open displays of affection and love: she sees it as weak because she has been taught to, but it’s all she ever really wanted to be.
we also know perfuma used to fear vulnerability. she doesn’t any more. the entirety of the episode leading up to her and catra’s heart-to-heart is her being vulnerable, putting herself in a position where she’s in danger but believing it’s worth it. and it is. despite what everyone said to her, perfuma is right: it was worth it. she got through to scorpia, even if it was only for a moment. she literally spells it out to us and catra with one of the best lines in the whole show: it’s hard, keeping your heart open. it makes you vulnerable, but it doesn’t make you weak, and i have to believe it’s worth it.
back in 1x10, perfuma was right: being together makes you vulnerable. horde prime tries to use people’s relationships against them, that’s literally the plot of save the cat, the point of pitting catra and adora against one another. he sees them as weak, just like shadow weaver deems adora’s feelings for catra ‘confusing’, just like light hope insisted adora was a danger to her friends as long as she was around them. they were all wrong. yes, they’re vulnerable. perfuma acknowledges that vulnerability puts you in danger, that it’s difficult to do that, but she knows it doesn’t make you weak. weakness vs strength is a big conflict in 5x10 literally introduced to us with netossa’s theories on everyone’s weaknesses in the first few minutes.
like perfuma says, friendship isn’t a weakness. it’s her greatest strength. her belief in love is literally what saves her and adora’s lives, it’s what saves everyone who got chipped, glimmer, bow. belief in love, both of others and yourself, is what saves adora in her dying moments. perfuma summarises she-ra’s entire fucking message to us repeatedly in 5x10 and she tells it to catra because catra is the one who will do the most with it. that glance at adora, it’s obvious what it means. perfuma is telling catra she should be open with adora about her feelings because you have to believe it’s worth it.
you won’t get anywhere waiting for other people to make the move. she-ra couldn’t heal plumeria’s lands, so plumeria had to fight their own battle alongside her no matter how much they felt unable to. the rebellion couldn’t move mara’s ship, so perfuma had to despite thinking she wasn’t strong enough. the reason they always win in the end is because they have each other, they have love and support and people motivating them to do better. just like perfuma motivates herself to do better.
it’s the mantra. i can do this. i can be vulnerable and still win, because i have love. and it’s hard, it’s so fucking hard to be vulnerable when you’ve feared it all your life and you’re so angry, so hurt, but you have to believe it’s worth it. and it is. it is, it is, it is, love is stronger than anything and being vulnerable for the people you love is the only way you can ever get what you want from them. perfuma as a character embodies that, having learnt it herself, and teaches the lesson to one of the characters who needs it the most.
adora is dying, and catra loves her, and she knows she does, and she just has to believe. adora is dying, and she loves catra, and she knows she does, but she doesn’t believe. not until catra teaches her too, in that moment, to realise they were all wrong, light hope, shadow weaver, horde prime. adora doesn’t need to let go, she needs to hold on and believe she will be pulled back up by the girl she loves. she needs to believe she deserves it. that it’s worth it.
and it is.

The Rewatch Academy: Episode 6 of Season 1
Tumblr media
“The Day That Wasn’t”
I am in no way a good analyst so my little analysis and speculations probably sound a bit goofy or pretty wild and probably mean nothing at all. Everything I put into this post about each episode is purely what I noticed or thought, whether it’s funny or serious. I will be making jokes, so please just leave it at that (in no way am I trying to make fun of an actor and or character!) I am also in no way saying I noticed this stuff first. This is just what I noticed while rewatching these episodes
☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂ ☂

☂ Klaus is lucky that he never got the briefcase shot up
☂ *Hears Klaus flush the toilet and talk* Luther: Oh good, you’re up
☂ Also Luther gave Klaus about two seconds to get up before hounding him again on getting downstairs
☂ Sounds like Tom’s accent slipped a little bit when he said “three days”
☂ Yeah they needed to have a family meeting right away and yet they took the time to go get coffee or at least order it and have it delivered
☂ “Old bastard” and “Our little psycho”
☂ I still don’t get at this point how they wouldn’t believe Five. Look at him, he himself is evidence of his time traveling! He was gone for 45 years, but to them it was only 17. Either way they try to grasp at that, Five would look older if he made it back without messing up. He knew about their father’s death without anyone telling him. I really think all the mistrust comes from the way he looks and the way he acts (they obviously believe he’s just crazy right now)
☂ “What did Five even see?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
☂ Also throw back to 1x02 and I didn’t realized this until now but Five doesn’t have his tie
Tumblr media
☂ I know it’s for the title card gag but no one questions the random umbrella falling and popping open
☂ I aspire to be as sarcastic as Hazel
☂ So where exactly is The Commission HQ at? Is it a random location in the real world? If so then wouldn’t normal people happen to stumble upon it? What about their location in space in the comics? Is this in space?? All we know is that it’s in/based off of the year 1955
☂ “I’d like to discuss the logistics of my family’s safety at your earliest convenience.” He cuts right to what’s most important to him. No “How will you stop the apocalypse?” or “What’s my job?” and even “How will my body replacement work?”
☂ Five sounds almost like he’s snapped back into a work mindset. He's suddenly polite and calm with The Handler. Maybe being back in a work environment has made his brain automatically switch into being more professional. However he might also be acting this way to try to throw her off of him being antsy with a plan
☂ Here's some Commission posters shown throughout 1x06
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
☂ One of us, one of us, one of us-
☂ So basically The Commission makes up history? How do they know what to do and when to make something happen? How do they know it’s right? And what’s The Commission supposed to do when the world ends? Haven't they already fixed stuff in the past or are there just continuous time loops so they need to make sure things happen over and over again? If multiple historical events happen with multiple ways they are made, then which one gets to be in the original timeline??
☂ Dot: No hard feelings! 😁
Tumblr media
Ma’am does it look like he’s going to accept that
☂ Wait why are Hazel and Cha-Cha considered the best Temporal Assassins if Five was/is the best?
☂ Well Five has the job of taking down the Hindenburg again but this time from behind a desk. So it’s possible to accomplish “corrections” without actually having assassins do the work. So I guess there’s just so many timelines that they need to fix every single one of them over and over? That sounds like a pain in the ass
☂ TUA portraits!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
☂ Y’know I have to agree with Allison on this one. Vanya was left out, however she’s offering to talk with her about the important family matter and Vanya is just denying it. I get she’s upset, but her sister is offering to include her. After Vanya leaves Allison immediately wants to go after her to talk with her. On the other hand Allison should have told her it was an emergency meeting and that they didn’t have the time to ask Vanya to join them
☂ Klaus seems genuinely concerned/upset for Vanya
Tumblr media
☂ “We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse. Now, there are loads of possibilities. Nuclear war, asteroids.” Wow spot on, Luther! I can’t believe they actually included foreshadowing for both apocalypses (even though technically it was a chunk of the moon, not an asteroid.) I wonder how much foreshadowing for S3 was put into S2.......
☂ I know it’s big joke about Luther and the moon, but the poor guy just really believes that he was on the moon for an important reason. I mean if I were in his shoes I would believe him too since he had to send a lot of daily updates and samples
☂ “Klaus shockingly has a point. What gives us a win this time?” Shhhh careful Diego, he’s right behind you
Tumblr media
☂ Luther is initially the only one onboard with Five on trying to stop the apocalypse. All the others want to go off and do their own thing before the world ends. He tries to get The Umbrella Academy back together to work as a team, but his leadership skills are now severely lacking. Do people *cough cough* mainly people who hate him *cough cough* overlook Luther wanting to also get his family together to stop the apocalypse with his family? Definitely.
☂ “We need the full force of the Academy to stand a chance.” Well golly gee, Allison, what did did Luther just try to do? Was that not him trying to round up all of The Umbrella Academy to stop the apocalypse?
☂ Even though Vanya is ranting, how does she not hear all the creaking metal and shaking cars?
☂ *it’s sunny around them but just the block they’re walking on is rainy until she calms down* “ThAt’S a CoInCiDeNcE.”
☂ The hall floor and Diego’s floor are so dusty
Tumblr media
☂ It’s sweet that Diego wants Klaus to get clean in a safe way instead of going cold turkey
☂ Dot, what does “utter silence” mean to you?
☂ “Look at you, deadly little thing.” You’re not wrong, but I don’t think he appreciates being called “thing”
Tumblr media
☂ Such a smug smile
Tumblr media
☂ So how does Five know all of this about Karl and his son? Does it talk about Otto never washing his hands in the file? That seems like an oddly specific detail but I guess in a case file it gives as many details as possible for the worker to figure out who needs to get assassinated
☂ There are a few cog references all relating to The Commission, so I wonder if this is a nod to “Teenagers” or if they’re just using this terminology
☂ Odd tattoos (sorry for the super blurry pic)
Tumblr media
☂ “Can I ask you a cuckoo bananas question?” Hazel is such a fun guy
☂ “Wouldn’t it be nice to kill who you want for a change?” You mean like straight up unhinged murder?
☂ The first time I watched this Hazel and Cha-Cha scene I for sure thought that Hazel was a dead man
☂ This scene just absolutely breaks my heart 💔
Tumblr media
☂ *skips 25:24-27:42*
☂ Diego is just so accepting to everything Klaus is saying
☂ I’m sorry, are we suddenly on the set of The Phantom of the Opera?
Tumblr media
☂ Diego, I think you’re forgetting a very important person in your life who you let down too who is also dead......(poor Ben can’t believe what his brother just said so he leaves)
☂ “Ordinary is not a word I’d use to describe you.” You’re right, it’s “Extra Ordinary” ha! Sorry Vanya, I had to use that joke
☂ Well at least we know Five ate a sandwich
☂ How exciting! The same division that made a simple candy taste like a candy from the past, but technically it’s not the past since The Commission HQ is based in 1955, is building a human body! That sounds so promising
☂ Sooooo whatever happened to Five’s new body? Is it just sitting in a lab somewhere?? Or is The Handler just lying about it to try to get Five to stay at The Commission?
☂ With the amount of time Five was staring at the suit, it obviously hurt him to know that while he has a new body within reach, he’s not going to get it because he’s about to leave
☂ “Course it’s a bit easier to see from 30,000 feet.” What is she talking about Reconnaissance aircraft? There was no mention of aircraft though so why would she bring that up? My closest guess is that she’s referring to strategic bombing in general, or even the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
☂ It sounds like Five suddenly has a New York accent when he says “operator” when talking to The Handler about Gloria
☂ Fuck you, Veggie Tales Hargreeves
☂ *skips 36:47-39:48*
☂ Well there’s your hit, Klaus
Tumblr media
☂ I love the camera moving with Klaus as he falls and the transition into Vietnam
☂ “Lock and load, Charlie’s away!” Wikipedia’s definition of a “Charlie” is  an American military slang referring to the Viiet Cong and North Vietnamese soldiers
☂ Klaus desperately calling out for a medic hurts my heart
☂ Well Luther if you had left then your body wouldn’t be the way it is now
☂ *fucking skips 45:41-50:00*
Tumblr media
☂ Ooooh I just really love the entirety of the “Kill Of The Night” scene! If you listen to the lyrics it’s about someone luring someone into a trap to get revenge because they messed with the wrong person (it’s also about love but we’re going to ignore that part). I personally believe it’s aimed at The Commission from Five because the entire time it plays he’s messing things up for them and in some way it’s like a little bit of revenge from him
☂ Why is Gloria confused on who Hazel and Cha-Cha are? Hasn’t she heard their names a ton of times especially since they’re some of the best assassins?
☂ How did Five know which tubes to put the messages in?
☂ You can see at this part how Five immediately gets anxious and antsy. He has a wild look in his eyes. From this point onwards he’s constantly moving, shaking with energy, anticipation, and probably a little bit of anger
Tumblr media
☂ “You’re a great disappointment to me.” That’s definitely not the first time he’s heard that
☂ “I don’t belong anywhere thanks to you. You made me a killer!” The first part of that stings. Obviously he feels like he doesn’t belong anywhere, but again I think has to do with the whole “good” and “bad” thing that’s going on. He feels like he doesn’t belong at home because he’s “bad” and has done a lot of dark stuff to get home (it doesn’t help that Luther voiced his acknowledgment of this  to Five and now he has that in his mind that Luther knows and somewhat views him as “bad”). Five 100% feels shame in what he has done, and definitely has an issue of coming back to his family with blood on his hands form what he has done. He doesn’t belong in The Commission anymore because he doesn’t want to stay there to do their dirty work to kill or give out kill orders. He’s done with that or at least wants to be done with that life.
The last statement though is Five taking his anger and guilt about being becoming an assassin out on The Handler. She brought him into The Commission, which in turn he became the best assassin across The Space-Time Continuum. It’s not something he’s proud of, and he never enjoyed killing (as much as I want it to be the DNA alteration I just don’t think it exists in the show or at least not yet). However The Handler replies with “You were always a killer. I just pointed you in a direction.” which you can immediately tell has struck a chord with Five. For the briefest second he looks taken aback and his eyes ever so slightly open wider in shock, whether he took that as the truth or just a terrible accusation isn’t exactly clear. Either way he doesn’t like being accused or hearing the truth out loud of always being able to be murderous, a killer.
I believe it’s a mixture of The Handler just trying to get into his head and a combination of the truth. Reginald trained The Umbrella Academy to use brute force, but that doesn’t mean Five had killed anyone but he was definitely violent when it came to stopping bad guys (not to mention in the pilot script he was called a “Ruthless little war machine” after violently attacking and decapitating a bunch of mannequins)
☂ Diego: I’m going to go kill Hazel and Cha-Cha!........Riiiiight after I get done walking with my mom in the park
☂ He’s so happy to see Klaus again
Tumblr media
☂ ✨Gremlin✨
Tumblr media
☂ Who exactly does Five owe a debt to? Maybe his family after accidentally leaving them and now he wants to save them? Or is it a singular person?
☂ Ouch! Now that’s what I call a problem later!
Tumblr media
☂
Tumblr media
☂ Five using “Ya’ll” is weird to hear
☂ Five is talking to his siblings like he knows what’s been happening but in reality he’s rarely been at home so how would he know
☂ I love that Five doesn't even answer Diego at the end and instead just stares at his siblings

an exhaustive list of my favorite moments in tdp (not including the funny stuff because then it’d be too long)
rayla's lore dumps in season 1 (1x04 and 1x05) because i like listening to her talk
2x07 when we first get to hear aaravos speak because i also like listening to him talk
2x09 when sarai calms callum down from a panic (or anxiety) attack. it hit me on a personal level
2x08 soren's heartbreaking lines "now i can't do anything terrible because now i can't do...anything." it’s so sad and hits me so hard. love it when this show makes me feel things
3x03 when ethari speaks to rayla through his sword's reflection - "i know you did not betray them out of malice. but that doesn't matter. . . he's gone, because you abandoned them." the music in this scene i so good im in tears. also i like hearing ethari talk
3x09 when soren stabbed viren. the music and the implications for soren and claudia's relationship just UGH it's so good, such a powerful moment
every goddamn rayllum scene i don't need to elaborate just yes
i think it was 2x09 where aaravos goes all glowy eyed like "well..open it for them" >:)
3x02 for some reason i just really like kasef's introduction, he seems neat at first
3x04 "greetings travelers. my name is naimi-selari-nykantia but they call me "nyx""
3x07 when viren clearly doesn't know what he's doing or what he wants so aaravos is like "so you want to....conquer xadia?" >:)
3x08 soren's speech
3x09 janai's lesbian rage when amaya gets hurt
3x08 “she think i’m cute but won’t admit it yet”
3x09 the entire sequence after its revealed that viren is at the top of the storm spire with rayla because the episode gets so stressful yet so good
3x09 when aanya and others show up and they use the broken link on their flags
2x09 the transition from sarai hugging callum to rayla hugging callum
3x07(?) when soren decides to leave viren (i'm so proud of him pls)
3x02 (?) ezran's speech about not wanting to be the kind of king his father was
3x07 when everything in lux aurea goes to sh/t because it's intense and stressed me out
also 3x07 when amaya warns janai that viren could be "the most dangerous human in the world" (why is this on this list? because i like hearing the interpreter speak ((i forgot their name? kazi? im wrong idk))
3x06 harrow's line "you never gave her that choice." catch me crying in the club
the entirety of harrow's letter hits me so hard i'm weak
every moment with ethari because he’s amazing
“i want to talk to you about life.. and growing up..and how there are some changes you don’t expect” just start digging my mfing grave at this point

Fanon!Stiles so often has me wondering why he's oh so surprised when his friends/pack ~ditch~ him. This is a guy who casually thinks how utterly stupid his ~friends~ but especially Scott are, that it almost seems like a chore just to be around them, he insults them freely. But I'm supposed to feel bad when they kick him out? It's.... so funny. Fanon!Stiles talks about how unfit Scott is as leader but is heartbroken when he can't be in his pack
This is where you get me in trouble.
One of the ways that people deflect criticism of the way Stiles Stilinski is written – both in the show and in fan fiction – is by claiming that any attempt by a reader or a critic of holding Stiles to a level of behavior that one would expect of a character who is a secondary protagonist is ableism.  Consequently, that word appears a lot in my inbox.
Tumblr media
Stiles is neurodivergent.   While its portrayal in the production was sketchy at best – during the entire series of medical scenes in 3B, the only reference to his ADHD was Stiles saying “No, the Adderall’s not working.”   One would think that – especially when Noah talked to Melissa or Noah and Melissa talked to the doctor -- it would come up at least tangentially in a discussion of his symptoms or his diagnosis. But there is more enough evidence to say that Stiles has ADHD and probably some form of anxiety.
What does that mean for my criticism of him?  I have to be careful about how I describe the sources of his behavior.  Luckily, I feel confident that I can still criticize Stiles for his behavior, because even if neurodivergence is one source of some of his behavior, I can still discern other motives for other instances of behavior.
Because, beyond missing social cues, beyond impulsivity, and beyond lack of emotional control, Stiles is mean.  He’s mean to Scott, he’s mean to Derek, he’s mean to Jackson, he’s mean to Matt, he’s mean to Isaac, he’s mean to Lydia, he’s mean to Ashley, he’s mean to Jared, he’s mean to Liam, and he’s even mean to Theo.  (Yes, two of those people are villains, but they were not revealed as villains to the characters when Stiles interacted with them).  Beyond those things, he’s still consciously rude.  He’s deliberately rude to Boyd, Ethan, Danny, and Deaton.    He deliberately insults people in ways that demonstrate that he’s fully aware of what is going on.  He deliberately disregards other people’s needs in order to fulfill his own.  Note, because for some reason this needs to be said, he’s not always mean or rude to these individuals; it’s never an all-or-nothing thing.  You can love a person and still be mean to them.
And again, this isn’t speaking to underlying factors, such as he’s a sixteen-year-old boy or that he’s in the middle of supernatural clusterfuck.  As has been pointed out to me, we only get to see Stiles in crisis mode throughout the series. We don’t see pre-Scott-Bite Stiles.  We don’t get to see Summer-of-2011 Stiles.   We don’t get to see Six-Months-of-No-One-Trying-to-Kill-Us Stiles. We don’t get to see Post-Canon Stiles.   Probably, when he’s not being pursued by murderous alphas or mad scientists, he’s a lot more pleasant to be around.
But that doesn’t change the fact that he’s still mean, and that the fandom enjoys the power fantasy that Stiles can be mean (can lie, can violate boundaries, can break the law with impunity) and no one should ever hold it against him.  In both the production and the fanfiction, there’s often the premise that people are in the wrong if they hold this behavior against him.
Take Season 1.  As much as the anti-Scott brigade might love making hay out of Scott’s comment “Well, then they had a reason,” as the height of depravity, they consciously and steadfastly ignore the cruel things that Stiles says to Derek throughout the seasons, such as “Hey, try not to bleed out on my seats, okay?”  (As an aside, it’s amazing to me how fanon creates Stiles as this brilliant thinker who is so much smarter and better than Scott in every way, except Stiles spends the entirety of Magic Bullet (1x04) and The Tell (1x05) screaming at Scott on the phone because he doesn’t know what to do.  But I digress.)
Or Take Season 5.  In the rain argument in Lies of Omission (5x09), Stiles famous speech is one of the meanest, cruelest manipulations I’ve ever seen a television character deliver to another television character they supposedly cared about.  And, of course, most of fandom focuses exclusively on the idea that Scott didn’t behave perfectly in that scene, and cannot entertain for one moment the idea that Stiles provoked that response.   After all, it’s part of the fantasy.
Stiles being pushed out of the pack serves another type of fantasy: the oppression fantasy.  It doesn’t matter why Stiles is pushed out of the pack or who is pushing Stiles out of the pack, it’s about Stiles’s right to be in the pack without having to account for his own behavior.   Look at some these stories.   One common variation is that Stiles is reckless in battle and constantly gets injured, and the alpha, whether Derek or Scott, determines that it’s better for him and the pack that he not be involved.  This is often – and strangely enough – paired with Scott not recognizing that Stiles is human and not capable of what a werewolf can do.   (Derek is left out of these, because they chose to forget that the only person to actually reject Stiles’s help, to call him ‘skinny and defenseless’ and ‘a hyperactive spaz’ is Derek.)  They ignore the inherent contradictions in this position, and there is seldom if ever valid recognition that the alpha has a responsibility to more than just Stiles.  Only Stiles is important here.  Hilariously, a common resolution is that Stiles goes somewhere and does something to become powerful and instead of saying “I’m okay now to help” decides to rub it in people’s faces.  It had nothing to do with powerlessness – it had to do with Stiles’s feelings and motivations.
And that’s the point – Only Stiles is Important and Damn Scott/Derek/Noah/Other Character for having motivations that don’t revolve around Stiles.   The pack exists not to serve all its members, but to validate Stiles.   Because, after all, that’s what the writers want for themselves – validation in the face of shortcomings and bad behavior.

Castlevania Reactions - Season 1
*Warning: long post + spoilers*
1x01
Tumblr media
I love that one guy right there who’s just like: This is fine.
1x02
Tumblr media
God forbid they should be considerate because some rando might be crawling through the sewage line.
Tumblr media
Damn. He’s got ya cornered.
Tumblr media
Oop, that’s a finger
Tumblr media
Oop, that’s an eye.
(I actually gasped a little. ‘Cause Jesus, that’s an eye)
Tumblr media
“The director said, ‘Let’s give you an apple to eat in this scene, so you’ll look like even more of an asshole.’“ *ding*
1x03
Tumblr media
This is my favorite line so far
Tumblr media
Oh, she’s a GIRL I didn’t expect that
Hey, she looks just like Lisa
So is this gonna be another “happens to look exactly like Dracula’s dead wife” rehash
[side note: when I was first watching this, I couldn’t remember everyone’s faces, so I thought she looked just like Lisa, but looking back at this, I was a stupid-head]
Tumblr media
She is BRILLIANT
Tumblr media
Oh, it’s this motherfucker
Tumblr media
You know, this son of a bitch is having the worst day of his life
He loses one eye, and he thinks that’s awful, but then he loses the other one several hours later, and it’s all thanks to Trevor Belmont
1x04
Tumblr media
I'm not sad he's dead, but I really like how this was written out. He holds fast to his (fanatical) beliefs right to the very end, trying to maintain this faith in God, because his malice has been characterized as insane religious zeal. And ultimately, he ends up dying when confronted with what he knows is his fault and has been desperately trying to pretend wasn't, all inside God's house.
Tumblr media
Hot take 1: *Squidward voice* OH NO HE’S HOT
Hot take 2: The 80′s called. They want their long hair and tight leather pants back.
Hot take 3: Father from Fullmetal Alchemist?
Tumblr media
He looks like if David Bowie had a love child with the entirety of glam metal
Look, his scar even looks like the Ziggy Stardust lightning bolt
Tumblr media
Excuse me, which one of you is actually wearing a shirt?
Tumblr media
No offense, but you guys are literally the worst team ever. I love it.

TDP timeline
aka I skimmed the (first) three TDP seasons, counting the days, so you don’t have to. Not that you would.
Here’s the TLDR:
Season 1 takes place over 5 days
2 days pass offscreen, between 1x09 and 2x01
Season 2 takes place over 8 days
3x01 picks up right after 2x09
Season 3 takes place over 7 days
So from 1x01 to 3x09, it’s been just 22 days
‘But the moon looks full in 1x01 and in 3x09!’ I hear you protest. ‘Shouldn’t it be a full month?’
Explanation, details, evidence, ambiguities, and milestone events under the cut. My count is based on the colour of the sky, specific time references (thanks Callum), and phases of the moon.
Harrow was King of Katolis for 9 years. Viren gives us the exact time reference in 2x05.
Tumblr media
That checks out, because look how small Ezran and Callum are when posing for the official portrait, a few days after Harrow’s coronation.
Tumblr media
It’s unclear exactly how long Harrow serves as King before Sarai is killed by Thunder. We know it’s not very long, though, because kid Callum’s character model is the same. (I focus on that, because young adults Harrow and Amaya will look the same for longer than a child who’s still growing.)
Yes, this could be a budget thing. But I still wouldn’t put the period between Harrow’s coronation and Sarai’s death beyond, off the top of my head, two years. It may be even shorter than that.
Harrow doesn’t take revenge for Sarai’s death until years pass. He and Viren kill Thunder just four months before 1x01.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now, to count the days.
Day 1 spans 1x01, 1x02, and 1x03. From dawn to night. Note the full moon on Day 1, in 1x03. It’ll become important later when I scrutinise lunar phases.
Tumblr media
1x04 is Day 2. And 1x05 is Day 3.
Now, 1x05 ends in the evening of Day 3, and when 1x06 opens, it’s morning. Since there’s no time skip in the rest of season 1, it’s probably just one night’s difference.
That’s a bit weird, though, since Rayla’s wrist ribbon tightens a lot in that time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll come back to this question of whether 1x06 starts the day after 1x05, in a moment.
1x06 spans Day 4.
Day 4, at nighttime, carries on in 1x07, then Day 5 starts.
1x08 continues Day 5, into the night. That same night continues into 1x09.
So: season 1 takes place over just 5 days, assuming the time between 1x05 and 1x06 is just one night.
Where do we get confirmation that this is the case? In 2x01, Callum says that they’ve spent 2 days with Lujanne, and that it’s been a week (7 days) since they left home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also know it’s been a week because it’s a full moon in 1x03, and a half moon in 2x02.
Tumblr media
2x01 spans Day 8.
The night of Day 8 goes on into 2x02, and then Day 9 begins in that episode.
2x03 is the night of Day 9, into Day 10.
2x04 spans Day 11, and begins Day 12.
Day 12 continues into 2x05. A lot of 2x05 and 2x06 is flashbacks, so Day 12 actually lasts through both episodes.
Then we have our first significant time skip within a season! 2x06 ends with a dragon sighting while it’s still light out on Day 12. Then 2x07 opens at night in a cave, and Callum says:
Tumblr media
So we know that the rest of Day 12, and all the sunlit hours of Day 13, pass offscreen between 2x06 and 2x07.
2x07 therefore opens on the night of Day 13. Then it goes on to Day 14.
The nighttime of Day 14, continues in 2x08. Day 15 begins in that episode.
Day 15 continues into 2x09. And finally, the sun rises on Day 16 while Callum, Rayla, and Zym are crossing into Xadia.
(I’ve made sure not to double-count Day 16. I count it as part of the season 3 time span, since most of it is in 3x01, not 2x09.)
3x01 picks up right where 2x09 left off. We know this because they still have to get past Sol Regem. So 3x01 takes place on Day 16.
Day 17 begins in 3x02, and continues into 3x03 for evening and nighttime.
3x04 opens on Day 18. This is explicitly timestamped, as Callum refers to the events of 3x03 as happening yesterday.
Tumblr media
Day 18 spans the whole of 3x04, and then some of 3x05. Then Day 19 starts during 3x05, and goes into nighttime within that same episode. Thus we end 3x05 on a moon shot:
Tumblr media
That’s a waxing crescent moon in 3x05, on Day 19, which checks out. I’m pretty sure. I stared at charts for a while.
3x06 opens on the morning of Day 20. And Day 20 continues into 3x07, going into the night.
3x08 continues the night of Day 20, and goes on to Day 21.
3x09 spans the entirety of Day 22, into night.
Now for the thing I anticipated above the cut: doesn’t season 3 end on a full moon, like how season 1 begins on a full moon?
Well, no.
Here is the moon on Day 20:
Tumblr media
...on Day 21:
Tumblr media
...and on Day 22:
Tumblr media
They look deceptively full, don’t they? But they aren’t. They’re waxing gibbous moons. That basically means they’re getting fuller, but aren’t quite there yet.
Gibbous moons can look full. My source is Neil deGrasse Tyson himself:
Tumblr media
That’s page 28 of his book, Merlin’s Tour of the Universe: A Skywatcher’s Guide to Everything from Mars and Quasars to Comets, Planets, Blue Moons, and Werewolves.
So, final bit of evidence to the contrary refuted, and now I can rest easy knowing I have no life.

merlin rewatch - 1x04: the poisoned chalice
a series of posts in which i record my thoughts and reactions as i properly watch the entirety of bbc’s merlin for the very first time 😊
so much merthur,, and it’s only episode 4
lmao gaius is judging merlin so hard rn, man merlin’s a sucker for a pretty face
nimueh is indeed quite pretty
merlin and arthur are already so comfortable with each other it’s ridiculous
merlin looks adorable arthur fight me
arthur turning back to smile at merlin while his father puts an end to a war sure
also can’t help but enjoy seeing merlin wearing the pendragon seal
they’re really going all out with the red and blue this episode
oh gwen :(( ignore merlin he doesn’t deserve you
i get that nimueh doesn’t have much to lose here but this is such a convoluted way to go about… whatever it is she’s trying to achieve
i want to be mad at merlin for just believing her but honestly what else is he supposed to think, certainly not the truth
arthur immediately looks so concerned for merlin bc he just knows there’s no way this ends well for him
nimueh could not have possibly known that this is how things would play out
namely because uther is once again being utterly unreasonable, making merlin drink from the chalice makes absolutely no sense whatsoever
“then you should have schooled him better” like what????
arthur trying to take the goblet from merlin,,, gwen stepping towards merlin,,,,, merlin drinking knowing full well he’s going to die,,,,,, arthur rushing over to him the second he collapses,,,,,,,, 😭😭😭😭
arthur does not hesitate a single moment i m
okay i gotta point out that gaius doesn’t seem particularly distressed that merlin is dying an apparently slow and painful death
morgana and gwen are both such sweethearts :((
okay this uther and arthur scene is so fucking good, the contrast between the two of them is beautifully shown and in a situation where neither of them is wrong
nimueh smiling like arthur going to save merlin is exactly what she wanted. you!! did not know!! this was going to happen!!
also what the hell is your plan!!
again, we see a highly perceptive gwen
aaaand now merlin is moaning and groaning arthur’s name in his sleep. not much to add here
“i know this place” bitch didn’t you just say you were lost
arthur will just not give up on merlin
our very first ‘why do you care so much about your servant?’ moment
every time uther crushes that flower i gasp
arthur reaching for the flower 🥺
RUN GWEN RUN
holy shit gaius doing magic!! i’d never seen this before!!
honestly gaius you’re as bas as merlin, gwen could have walked back in at any moment
stop blaming yourselves 😢
gwen kissing merlin in the moment is sweet and gwen is sweet
would have loved to see arthur’s reaction in the future to somehow finding out that gwen and merlin had once kissed
“the truth about nimueh” ooooh ~secrets~
the entirety of this last scene is just so much i can’t
arthur checking up on merlin, smiling when he sees he’s okay, wiping off his smile before beginning to speak to him, generally trying to act like he doesn’t care when he so clearly does, merlin calling back for arthur, the fucking loaded looks when they’re thanking in each other in what is probably their first completely genuine moment in which arthur for just a second drops all pretenses
yeah so i’m literally tearing up anYWAY
there goes the fourth wall

June 29: 1x04 The Naked Time
Heeey who’s ready for me to talk about The Naked Time??
First of all this is one of the best episodes ever so jot that down. Absolutely wild from beginning to end.
For example, here to observe the disintegration of a planet is a cool mission.
“Oh no, someone has strangled this mannequin.”
It says something good about the Enterprise crew that they were weird and silly and horny and artistic but the most violent thing they did was slap each other a little and play with swords and butter knives.
This science guy is SUCH a dumbass. Why does he think he’s even wearing gloves??
I love how Kirk always turns on the charm, just a little bit, when he’s being reassuring.
Joe’s story line here is LITERALLY ST: Beyond but better.
Chapel’s first appearance!
“Instruments only measure what they were designed to measure. Space still contains infinite unknowns.” I actually think about this a lot.
Are all games 3D in the future?
3d fencing
RILEY
Everyone looking fine in this ep. Sulu. Spock in his t-shirt.
Sulu trying to get his friends into his hobby of the week.
The fear they have over this butter knife is... interesting lol. Were they not allowed to show a real knife on NBC?
Kirk’s Captain’s Log: “Little did we know...” When is he writing this? Is he making it as dramatic as possible on purpose?
Does Kirk have to do EVERYTHING himself? His crew just keep wandering off or passing out all over the place.
Loooollll Sulu being so sneaky as he leaves the bridge.
“I want the impossible checked out too.” I love him your honor.
Is there another crewman named Rand here?
I love Riley. This is how I’m going to open automatic doors now: blowing at them, dramatic hand gestures.
Spock knows so much about everyone. You know he’s a major gossip. That’s why his brows are so thick. They’re full of secrets.
Outta the chair. Now back in the chair.
SULU.
Honestly living for the way Uhura says “Sorry, neither” to “Fair maiden.”
Spock knows his Muskateers.
First Vulcan nerve pinch. Kirk wants to learn.
I am CACKLING over Riley. This never stops being the most hilarious thing. It also seems like it’s way too easy to take over the entirety of the ship lol. Maybe Riley’s just very smart--how he came to be a captain so young and all.
I love Kirk’s expression every time Riley calls himself captain. He does NOT like tom foolery.
I’VE WATCHED THEM FADE AWAY AND DIE.
Spock imposes social distancing, but the virus continues to spread.
Does the Enterprise actually have a bowling alley or is Riley making shit up? Someone needs to write the fic of the fancy dress dance in the bowling alley.
ONE MORE TIME.
What does Kirk need to sign right now? What paperwork is so important that he has to fill it in before they all die a terrible death in 20 minutes?
Love mankind!!
Spock rolling his eyes at Christine’s pre-reform Vulcan kink. Why is everyone so into that lol? She’s only been on the show for 20 minutes and she’s declaring her love, like this went 0 to 100 real fast. And she has a fiance too!
She sure is touching his hands a lot. I have to assume she doesn’t know about the Vulcan hand sensitivity thing because I doubt that’s even part of canon yet but this is also airdate order so who knows. (I have a different take on that than most people anyway.)
I feel like the sickness hit Spock really fast. Is it because he has so many emotions?
Kirk just throwing Riley around.
Oh those pesky laws of physics.
I’m sure I’ve said this before but I find it really interesting that Spock doesn’t tell himself anything about being a Vulcan when he’s holding back emotions. He does math, and he reminds himself that he’s an officer.
My duty is to my mom!
Kirk is so fucking smart. I just honestly don’t even know what to do with people who don’t like Kirk. He knows all about physics, he can run his whole ship, he’s keeping his cool in this insane situation (mostly--and apologizes when he doesn’t btw) but anyway the point is his knowledge of highly theoretical physics is a huge turn on.
“Everyone’s drunk on water” is such a weird explanation. Also none of them seem drunk to me.
This Kirk and Spock scene is one of the best in the whole show. Kirk just keeps slapping him even though Spock’s so much stronger. Spock’s feelings about being Vulcan and human and Kirk’s feelings about command. That real Vulcan hand sensitivity there.
Eta how could I forget JIM WHEN I FEEL FRIENDSHIP FOR YOU I FEEL ASHAMED. Best use of Jim so far.
How Kirk starts talking about women and Spock is IMMEDIATELY ready to do math lol. Did he ever even get the cure? Or did he just get over it?
A BEACH TO WALK ON. Such a romantic little nerd.
SINNER REPENT.
The ease with which McCoy rips his shirt is so hilarious to me.
Still obsessed with that beach I see... Every attempt to make Kirk/Rand a thing is always so flippin weird so I’m just ignoring that and focusing on romantic!Kirk.
This ep is so next level. Like don’t mind us we’re just going to INVENT TIME TRAVEL in the last 4 minutes of the ep nbd.
If REAL Star Trek nerds had written the movies they would have used this. Like Spock literally invents a new time travel method and then forgets about it? Unrealistic. Listen to him here, he wants to try it again.
I know Shatner can be dramatic as all hell but he CAN be subtle, too; look at that sequence when Spock tells them they’re living the last 3 days again.
It occurs to me that we all write Sulu as if he were obsessed with botany and swords but what if he’s really that guy who just has a NEW random obsession every week? I feel like that’s what Riley’s line implies.
I understand why Kirk had a freak out about his command specifically, since he’s spent the whole episode facing death down pretty directly, while having to do literally everything himself, because everyone on his crew is loopy and useless except Uhura, Scotty, and McCoy.
Because of the air date order, and because I’ve been deep in a Mitchell/Kirk wormhole recently, when he started talking about everything the Enterprise had taken from him, I actually thought of Mitchell first.
Anyway that was gold your fave could never goodnight.
