yes i'm rooting for m*leven breakup because byler is neat but mostly? i'm rooting for m*leven breakup for the sake of el and mike.

to me, their romance was always a puppy love born out of a combination of social pressures, naïve curiosity, and a lack of true understanding regarding intimacy and romantic love and what it really is. it was real in that they do truly, deeply care about each other and they are close friends, maybe even shared an attraction, but a maturing romance is so much more than that. they've grown up and out of being boyfriend/girlfriend, and that's okay! i think television/film needs to show more often that most of us don't have definite "soulmates" or first childhood loves that we spend our whole lives with. it doesn't mean these relationships meant nothing and didn't impact us, it just means they've run their course and that something else is in the cards, and this is part of life!

i've always felt el was at her best and most confident self when broken up with mike, discovering who she was and what she liked alongside another girl her age instead of just relying on mike for mentorship on how to live in the real world. she deserves more of an opportunity to find herself, her autonomy, and her independence, and to love who she is, and she's made it clear she's felt insecure in the relationship with mike because she isn't being loved and understood the way she wants, needs, and deserves from someone who is her partner.

also, it's okay if mike doesn't love her in "the way he should". he is not obligated to love her romantically and stay in a relationship with her just because she's a girl, because she "needed someone", or because he cares about her a lot. he shouldn't be pressured into a romance if it's not truly coming from his heart. he deserves freedom to find out and honour who he is, too, instead of just staying in his non-functional first relationship — one he got into as a child, essentially — and defining himself that way because it's what's expected when a boy and a girl are close. he loves her in some way, yes, but it's okay if he doesn't feel comfortable or secure being her boyfriend anymore, for whatever reason that is. he's felt insecure too, and that's valid and it matters.

they are their own people and are steadily growing and changing every day. they need time to figure out who those people are, and it's become clear (at least in my opinion) that those people aren't meant to be a couple at this stage.

they deserve freedom. they deserve to grow up and be authentic to themselves and not feel like they need to lie for the sake of a relationship. they deserve to move on from this version of their relationship that isn't making them happy and rekindle the best part of their bond: their strong, beautiful friendship. they don't have to be a couple if it doesn't make them stronger and better and happier people.

i think it would be healthy and wonderful for a show, especially one consumed frequently by young adults, to show a relationship starting, progressing, and ending on good terms in this way. sometimes things don't work out, and that is okay.

processing ep 11 one day at a time and idk i was just really reminded of how fig’s an only child too

and this isn’t really all that significant considering the party (given that adaine and kristen are the only ones with siblings); fabian’s been talking to podcasts alone in the manor and riz has been locking in on extracurriculars and cases but like fig had her self-concept twisted in on itself right on the cusp of a new chapter in life. and i think it’s great that the doubt she felt when her horns came in, she thinks it’s sacred. a tool for rebirth. but does she have any reason to believe looking inward is productive? as someone who can literally change her reflection? she’s a wonderful and compelling person in her own right now but where are her friends from when she was a preppy preteen, who invited her to every party until she wasn’t a bubbly wood elf anymore? what did she carry over from that life? was she more introspective then? maybe she attached that to who she was. maybe she’s barred herself from it because she’s not that person anymore. maybe she can’t sit with all the selves she’s had inside her because the magnitude of all the personas she’s invented and reinvented have muddled her identity into this convoluted curdled thing. and it is by far the easiest thing to direct all the fiendish energy and power and personality outward, to her friends, to school, to solving the mystery. and so she disappears.

Wip Wednesday babeeyy

eyy I've finally remembered that wip wednesday exists!! here's some proof that i'm working on something, and that something is the follower milestone gift i said i was going to do and i promise i'm doing it! i'm doing it it's happening i promise! so here's a little taster!!!! and here's Part One if you want a refresher!

And then the kid just vanishes.

In the blink of an eye, in the time it takes for him to look down, screw his face up because this is all confusing as fuck, and look back up, he’s just gone. There’s nowhere to hide, there’s nowhere to go, Jason can see everywhere around him—but he can’t see Danny.

“Well… shit."

“What, what happened?” Dickybird hisses in his ear, the unsaid, exasperated “now” very clear in his voice. 

As much as he loathes to admit it, Jason is feeling very much the same way right now. What was meant to be a simple case of “investigate the potential child abuse and put an end to it” has instead become something… less simple. When is it ever simple in his life?

Still. If working with supers, metas, vigilantes, whatever, has taught Jason anything, it’s that just because you can’t see someone doesn’t mean they’re not there.

“Hey, kid… Danny. Listen, I’m not here to hurt you and if you’re still here, if you can still hear me, then, I don’t know, do you want to get a bite to eat or something? I just want to talk. I just want to figure out what’s happening.”

Jason doesn’t hold his breath. 

Okay, no, that’s a lie. Jason holds his breath, but he swears he’s holding it so he can more accurately hear if Danny is still around. That’s all it is, he’s not attached to this kid already. He’s not.

When no answer comes—not even a whisper of a breath or the scuff of a sneaker on the pavement—he suppresses a frustrated growl and opts instead to breathe deeply and pinch the bridge of his nose.

“So…” Tim begins, drawing out the word.

The urge to growl—hell, the urge to pull out his comms and smash them on the floor—grows.

“The kid’s a meta, then. Potential powers including but not limited to: invisibility or teleportation. You think he’s still there?” There’s no reason for the kid to still be around, not at all. If it was Jason, he’d have scattered as soon as he realised the stranger impersonating his dad wasn’t the guy he thought was impersonating his dad, and honestly, wasn’t that extra fucked up? That someone impersonates people in this town often enough that it’s not a surprise? The way Danny spoke about him… What was his name?

Amorpho. Amorphous. Without shape. 

A shapeshifter?

Whatever. It’s a mystery for another time, because there’s still a more pressing mystery in front of him.

Or,. rather, not in front of him.

Yes, there’s no reason for Danny to still be here, but…

Jason sighs. 

“I’m going to Bat—Nasty Burger. Really? Is that the best burger joint here? Nasty Burger? Whatever, I’m going to get some fucking fries.”

Jason feels fucking stupid talking the air like this. He must look fucking stupid, too, but the thing is… There’s a prickling on the back of his neck, a rolling taste of green on his tongue when he glances through his peripheral, the vague weight of an unseen eyes on him. 

Call it wishful thinking, call it a hunch, call it something else, but Danny’s still here.

“There’ll be a burger waiting for you, too, if you want it. My treat.” Jason turns in a full circle, examining everything in his surroundings. Nothing seems out of place, nothing screams wrong to him. “I just want to talk.”

He waits for a full minute with no success, which makes Jason feel even more stupid, before clicking his tongue and making his way to the, hopefully ironically named, Nasty Burger.

and the mention of left-handedness is this:

which, since he's not....a page or two later, gracie learns the gun he took off mordecai here is inoperable, and mordecai calls it auxiliary (backup / not the main one) and gets his gun from nico, which he then indeed shoots with his right hand. so what seems to have happened is: mordecai left his main gun with nico, left his sabotaged backup on him, and gracie found that gun somewhere on mordecai's right side, thus easier to draw from within a jacket with your left hand, which gracie notices b/c he's actually left-handed, implying in the absence of another gun that mordecai favors his left. gracie could've noted it as contradictory that mordecai just used his right hand to take off his glasses, but a) not like that proves he's Not left-handed, or ambidextrous, b) gracie's already generally suspicious, c) he's now more confident for having seemingly disarmed mordecai and d) it would also be a lot to Deduce like "ah so he must have taken another gun off his person, in anticipation of being patted down, and also disarmed, which means he plans to retrieve it, which means he also plans to attack us unawares" and e) it's pretty much too late even if he Was more suspicious about handedness; they're planning to kill him and if he made any earlier moves that still would've happened....but it's a fun teeny giveaway that Something's Even More Up than he thought

I'm not gonna screenshot it bc 1/it really doesn't matter that much and 2/the person who made the comment is a kid but: a while ago I made a comic that's supposed to be a genuine study and reinterpretation of someone else's sprite comic (made in the spirit of authenticity too - to recreate the vibes of the sprite comics from that era, iirc very specifically because it's funny) and I got a comment on that comic's post that's like "glow up"

which is a compliment obvs. and the commenter probably didn't mean anything by it, it's a common expression. but I've been trying to find a way to gracefully put that comment away ever since it appeared lol

I just very much don't want my art to be taken as trying to one-up someone else's art when that's not the piece's intention. especially when the piece that inspired my art is perceived as "low effort" or "shitpost" or stuff like that. I did mention in the tags of that post that my considering it a study is entirely genuine, and I can legitimately write pages about the cool stuff I find in it other than and inherent in the haha funneys, but that's not for you guys that's for me. I just think that approaching art competition-first like that is a miserable way to do it, and (tipping into overthinking here if the whole tiny-comment-got-stuck-in-my-brain-for-almost-a-month part hasn't given that away yet lol) I really don't want that to be the takeaway from my own art. at least generally. if I actually think the source material is trash and what I'm doing is genuinely categorically better I'd just come out and say it lmao

wahhh my boys!! I'm so normal about them!! I'm gonna do my best to give you cohesive ideas, but my hc style is super loosey goosey so lmk if I need to elaborate on anything <3

Garroth:

Was enrolled in the Academy at 18 under the guise that it would make him a smarter, more savage leader. This only worked because Garte prioritizes power and strength over genuine leadership.

Of his siblings, he is the only one who doesn't practice magic

He looks arguably more like his mother, however he is incredibly insecure and upset by the few features inherited from his father. He's terrified those features will connect him to Garte's cruelty

He was 20 and still in the Academy when Vylad was murdered, and he ran away within a few days after his brother's funeral

He acts as a rookie guard in Phoenix Drop for many years before the then head guard appointed him as his "heir" and charge, something he was none too pleased about. The idea of being responsible for that many lives made his stomach turn, but his superior refused to back down from his position

O'khasis is a deeply religious city state, and it's royal family reflects that ideology. Garroth is burdened with heavy religious trauma, and the reveal of Nova (Aphmau) actually being Avon (Irene) really screws with his head and creates many complicated feelings

Garroth had no idea what kind of monster Zane had become in his absence, but even after learning the truth he couldn't help but mourn for his brother after his untimely demise

He tends to view young men under his care as brother figures, namely Zenix and Dante. He was devastated both after Zenix's betrayal and meeting Dante after the 15yr timeskip, and he muses from time to time that he's simply destined to lose his brothers

Zane:

Widely renowned as the youngest High Priest of the Church of Avon to date, having been appointed at only 27

He is directly responsible for the death of only one person: Vylad. He's all but gaslit himself into believing that it wasn't his fault

Immediately following the death of his brother, Zane discovered the Divine Relics and ultimately dedicated his life to the research and collection of them. By the time of his stay in Phoenix Drop, he's collected the relics of Kulzak, Enki, Kebek, and a fragment of Shad's. He knows of the whereabouts of Menphia's relic, Avon's relic, and after "reuniting" with Garroth, Esmund's relic.

Is Leona's biological father via the pendant he gifted to Kiki, and he's well aware that she exists. His role in her creation was entirely unintentional, but it was a sacrifice he was willing to make.

As the High Priest of the Church of Avon, he was tattooed with markings similar to her's. Nova also shares these markings (because she IS Avon), and when the two meet he initially believes her to be an incredibly devout worshipper.

Fully aware that he's become a greater monster than his father ever was, and though he refuses to acknowledge it, there's a part of his subconscious that becomes sick at the very sight of his own face. As such, he's rarely seen without a full-face veil, something he's able to excuse using the Faith of Avon practice of wearing mourning veils following the death of a loved one.

Vylad:

A very talented magics user, something he honed exclusively by watching Zane practice his own craft when they were children. He tries not to rely on it too much anymore, but the skill is still there.

Even though he bears almost no resemblance to his mother, Zianna remains the only person who knows the identity of his father. As such, Vylad is accidentally and unknowingly responsible for his own father's death

Of the Shadow Knights we (Nova) meet, he was the second ever to be reborn, succeeded only by Zenix. That's why he retains all of his memories, as Gene didn't begin the process of brainwashing knights until many years after his own rebirth.

Despite being terrified of facing his family after being reborn, he can't seem to keep himself away. He's drawn to each of them in a way he can't explain, and he feels inexplicably compelled to help out from the sidelines (not dissimilarly to his behavior in life)

It took many years and ye old therapy with Hyria to let go of the hate, anger, and bitter sting of betrayal he felt after his murder and rebirth. He can control himself much better now, but when he was still a young knight just the thought of it was enough to push him over the edge, forcing him ever closer to becoming a Husk

Vylad, like Garroth struggles with religious trauma and discomfort surrounding religion, however during his time spent in the Nether he frequently prayed to Avon, just to have someone to talk to even if they weren't listening. (this one is HEAVILY inspired by if not blatantly stolen from this wonderful comic made by @vyladromeave, go check them out!! I love it so much and I can't stop thinkin about it <3 if this bothers you at all lmk and I'll get rid of this bit no biggie)

In line with the previous hc, he had a pretty strong hunch from the moment she spawned from the staff the Nova was Avon, and even after properly meeting her he wondered if she ever heard any of his prayers and pleas. He's still not sure which answer he'd prefer.

So. Was in a server and talking about headcanon stuff, fic ideas, AUs, etc etc

And while discussing an AU with @pyarini , the idea of using Heba as a name for a reincarnation came up, to which I made some comment about how cute it would be for Atem to recognize it’s Yuugi, because they both mean game. To which she pointed out that it didn’t, and that Heba actually means “gift.”

Which made me think two things:

One: I seem to have been completely misled by the fandom to believe Heba meant game. (To be fair I had tried to look it up before, but could never find a concrete meaning, and figured I just missed something since everyone else was saying it did.)

And two: Oh…Why do we use that name in the first place?

I did some light digging and it seems there is nothing showing Heba means game, and within fandom, there’s nothing concrete showing where it originated from, though highly suspected to be a name someone liked and used in an RP for an Egyptian Yugi counterpart, which just got spread and used by the fandom. (The ONLY info I could find for it’s origins was Fandom Wiki, so if anyone knows any different please let me know!)

So here’s my thought process now: If it was randomly chosen by someone cuz they liked the name, I think I’ll just pick my own name for “Heba” and use that instead!

This was developed by Kanmani by saying “Maybe it should be Senet” To which I had the idea of using the name Sen, short for Senet.

Now, I know this seems silly as a name, but I think it’s fitting seeing how Yuugi literally just means “Game” in Japanese, and his Grandfather is named Sugoroku, after a form of Japanese Board Games. As a counterpart, to reflect it’s a version of Yugi just in a different time/place, I think it works well! (Plus Sen is a name already, with a few meanings, one of which is a thousand in Japanese, if people wanted to use it for a modern reincarnation as well!)

I’m not a newbie, but comparing my two years here to how long this fandom has been around, I know it would be silly to ask to completely change the name around or anything like that. I don’t wanna make it seem like I’m saying you shouldn’t or can’t use the name anymore! It’s a cute name, and I understand it’s got history in the fandom! I mainly wanna use this as my own nickname for a counterpart and explain where I got it from.

Buuuuut…I do invite anyone who likes the name idea to use it in your projects: whether it’s labeling art, comics, fics, etc!

I would love to see people joining in calling an AE Yuugi counterpart Senet/ Sen, and I know I’ll be using it myself for my projects :] ✨ It’s already been cemented in my mind, even if it doesn’t catch on haha.
