Earth's VA clarified (very passionately and consistently) that Earth DID NOT DIE from Bloodmoon that was a MISTAKE from Sun or Moon's VA (I can't remember which 😭), technically the old body died because it was broken beyond repair but she herself was perfectly okay!! So both her and Sun are untouched by the family theme of dying. She was just badly injured!

She also said she wants it to be canon that Earth can do a backflip! :]

KC's VA touched on the question of "why didn't it fight back against Bloodmoon?" and it was simply because it didn't care to 💔

Regarding the whole "Fandom Is An Escape, so why should I have to care this much about misogyny/racism/ableism/transphobia/etc." thing. Idk about the rest of you, but it gets kind of hard for me to "escape" when I keep seeing people say the same vile things about characters who share aspects of my identity that I hear all the time in real life.

#i want to think aloud through it on here at some point #but i think i am going to structure it around the theme of cultivating student autonomy #because i think one of the primary goals of mentorship is to prepare students to be self-directed learners who can set realistic goals + #evaluate their own progress + reflect on what they've learned and what they still don't know #+ take initiative without sitting around waiting for someone to tell them what to do next #so i think we will do some thinking around like #when we have a student we think of as really capable or driven what qualities and behaviors do we observe in that student #and maybe ill also share some of the research on intrinsic motivation + self-direction + locus of control #which i think is all really interesting esp in light of the contemporary College Mental Health Crisis concerns #and then we will look at a range of tools + structures + strategies that i think are useful for fostering student autonomy over time #and maybe leave them with some core principles/guiding values that i think are useful when you are trying to like #avoid jumping in and doing stuff for kids #or solving their problems for them #idk i need to think through specifics a bit more #but i feel like on this campus #people do a lot of 'workshops' that are really not interactive at all #it's just someone talking from slides #and i kind of want to show off my ability to structure more engaging workshops #but idk. gotta think about how to do it well #and how to build in lots of opportunities for like crowdsourcing strategies too

Something about people saying that movie!gabe is better than show!gabe because he "cares about adrien" rubs me the wrong way because… show!adrien is very clearly a victim of abuse that has obviously been going on for a while, i'd guess even before emilie's death. You don't get a boy as terribly afraid of his father without him being some form of abused, and that's the whole point of his story. like, if gabe cared about adrien, then adrien wouldn't be the adrien we know, he'd be movie!adrien. It works for the movie but would never ever work for the show. Show!Adrien's entire arc and character basis is about overcoming his abuse, so to take that away from him feels… gross, to me. idk!

Usually I put the girls and the boys on each side of the page (non binary characters were either at the top or bottom)

And then she drew lines and made ships

Now the thing is. She hardly ever got canon ships right

Her worst cases were close to pedophilia and incest

So at some point she gave up trying to get them right and was more happy when she was creating monstrosities cause it was funny

It's been interesting getting back into both Sam/Jack and MSR at the same time, I get to compare and contrast really similar themes (secret duty, dangerous truths, aliens, government oversight, honor, loss of family, pining, devotion etc) from really different framing. The X files is a much darker show overall and Chris Carter's misogyny problem and hand of fate baby arcs are frustrating and painful, and yet the MSR fic has so much more room to be much sweeter and more openly domestic and a lot of times the stakes are lower because as much as it affects their own lives, the Syndicate and the threat of Colonization is much bigger than what they personally alone can bring about or prevent. They have guilt and repression and fear of losing each other or the work to contend with, but we're also shown that as long as they have each other they're generally okay even without the work -- I mean aimlessness and depression (and out of character writing choices) yes, but the Syndicate operations aren't that closely affected by if Mulder and Scully are in the basement office or not, so you can conjure up a wide variety of believable paths for them to be together with or without 'the files.'

Meanwhile Sam and Jack could literally be prosecuted for disobeying orders/getting involved within the same chain of command, they could get their team or the whole program taken apart thanks to that excuse in the hands of Simmons or similar, they're directly on the front lines for 8 years and they're repeatedly shown via the quantum mirror that Sam and Jack both being active members of SG1 is the only reason Earth wasn't decimated in a hostile Goa'uld invasion so they can't just resign and be together. For a second you think there's a window but then there's a new war and they make Jack everyone's boss and send Sam to a different galaxy and then put her up on a ship, and you go; Oh. So that's an endless set of circumstances, then. There's so much 'be miserably, honorably apart, serving and pining forever or the destruction of Earth will directly be your fault' baggage baked into Sam and Jack's narrative setup that you're boxed into either character-bending wish fulfillment (which is satisfying to read but hard to commit to writing ime) or the soul excoriating 'hanging on waiting for what can never be' flavor of overly believable quiet tragedy.

I'm finding I'm spending more time with the show where the skinny grey aliens with big eyes are a lot more evil and the themes are more bleak but the characters are less entirely trapped by their own best intentions 💀😭😭

#msr #sam x jack #the x files #stargate sg1 #it is very interesting though the way the 2 shows use so many of the themes and concepts but point them in totally different directions #i mean they were both Vancouver scifi in the 90s so they had to be somewhat aware of each other but I don't think it was that intentional #the whole txf.... thing seems to have been very insular #but they were still treading a lot of the same ground with the aliens and conspiracies and the pining and whatnot #it's just funny to me that bleak grim misty never resolved and mumbling txf has room for so much sweet silly domestic hopeful fic #and the bantery straightforward scifi show with a lot of comedy and yay teamwork themes has.... #some of that but also so much 'it's literally impossible how can we cope' themed work as a natural consequence of canon #that I ended up taking breaks from reading s/j because I got tired of crying my way through it so often #i mean it's cathartic but. that sensation of 'there's gotta be a solution so they're not stuck like this right?' gets stressful 🫠 #and no i didn't come up with any bright ideas either

#ill wait i gotta sleep anyways #this ep just made me upset tbh #mason’s too moustache-twirling to be interesting imo so any scene with him is stupid #but then he did That and thats a little too realistically fucked-up and evil #and to have hannibal implicitly support that makes me like him even less when like. hes basically the second protagonist ik hes a bad person #regardless but implicitly supporting rape (im counting it as rape) is too far imo #and this show already treats its women Badly so #eugh bad arc overall i am not in favor and i hope mason dies fast so we can move on #hanniblogging
