Here is an intermission set at the start of his rehab!

Fair warning, this is a longer read than the other parts, I think it's longer than the Prologue.

Rehab Progress

“Listen, Amestrian-”

“What does being an Amestrian have to do with anything? We’re all people here, and I have a name, you know. It's Pinako Rockbell, you nitwit.”

The Alchemist sighs. “Ms. Rockbell….I specialize in Healing Alchemy. He doesn't need your help.”

“It is not my intention to step on any toes; I'm just asking for some time with the boy to fit him with a prosthetic.”

She was given an inquisitive look. “Prosthetic?”

“Yes, I specialize in the manufacturing of metal prosthetics. It's a very popular business model back in Amestris due to the constant wars border-to-border.” Taking a puff from her pipe. “He's got to be healed enough for a fitting by now, isn't he?”

“Uh- yes? He’s not categorically ready to put pressure on it or do activity that rushes blood to the area.”

Pinako waved a hand at him and turned away, walking down the stairs. “No need to worry about that. Just have someone bring him to my shop for a fitting soon. He'll be of more use to you with a functioning leg again.”

The Alchemist didn't know what to make of this woman. He knew of the practice of metalworking; Xerxes was the main source of armor for the neighboring countries, not to mention jewelry. But turning them into a working limb of some sort sounded otherworldly. He was thinking about not even considering her offer. Albeit, this kid really needs to get out of the palace and give him a break from dealing with his tantrums.

Quite a few days later, back at the shop, the Rockbells got to work on readying their workstation for the up-and-coming client that was believed to be on his way today. Pinako had gotten a heads-up from a herald the palace had sent. She didn't get why they couldn't just come down themselves, carting Ed behind them. But at least they sent someone to let her know that today was the start of relinquishing him from palace arrest.

A downed slave didn't have much use for anyone, so she's surprised they waited this long to get Ed walking again. Needless to say, this nation hasn't seen the butchery Amestris treats as an everyday occurrence. Pinako had seen the absence of battle scars on individuals of Xerxes. This reality may not look good for her business at the current moment; however, there's always time for the Queen of Amestris to get bored and storm Xerxes for their copious sand, just for entertainment purposes.

“Winry, is everything ready?” Pinako strolled into the main shop area, inhaling her pipe. She scanned the room to see everything in place.

“Yes, Granny!” Winry was tying an apron around her waist as she turned to Pinako. Reposing her hands on her hips, she looked so proud of herself. She's trained well as Pinako’s apprentice.

“Good, good…” Exhaling a puff of smoke. “You're still too young yet to take on a project by yourself, but in due time you'll do just fine.”

Winry smiled. “Thanks, Granny.”

“We can build this project together, but I'll let you do most of the work. How's that sound?”

“Can't wait!” Winry balled her fists and had stars in her eyes. Pinako smiled; she loved this kid so much.

“Al….I'm slipping.”

“Stop moving, brother.”

The brothers were just a few blocks away from the Rockbell establishment. Alphonse walked while carrying Edward on his back. He moved Ed higher and repositioned his hands under his upper thighs, consciously avoiding the sensitive area.

“How's that?”

Ed grunted from being bounced and grabbed Al's shoulder firmly. “Better….but this is still embarrassing…”

“Why?”

“Why do you even have to ask that? I'm the older brother, and you're carrying me.”

“Well, it is getting tiring; would you like to trade places?” Al looked over his shoulder to see Ed glaring at him. Which makes him chuckle.

“Ha ha, very funny, Al.” Ed huffs and sharply strikes Al on the head with his fist. Not, by any stretch of the imagination, sufficiently hard to hurt him.

“You need to learn to rely on people, Ed. I don't mind doing this for you. Especially if it leads to you walking again…”

Ed slumped against Al’s back, his arms sticking straight out in front. Al continued to look forward; the air around him was solemn.

“You haven't been yourself lately, and I miss being able to see you every day. With the alchemists keeping you in isolation,…. It's been hard on Mom and I…”

Ed looked at the back of Al's head. “Al…I’m-”

“Hup!” Al bounced Ed again to stop him from finishing what he was going to say, making Ed think he was about to fall. “Sorry about that; what were you saying, brother?”

“H-Hey! Watch it!” Ed exclaimed a protest, but chuckled and relaxed against his brother. Al didn't want to hear him apologize again. Ed knows it wasn't his fault, but he couldn’t help but feel like a burden since Al had been taking up his end of the work in the palace. “Nothing…”

Al murmured a reaction and continued in silence. Ed glanced around, definitely noticing the looks they'd been getting. As though it wasn't sufficiently strange to see somebody getting a piggyback ride, they genuinely couldn't rip their eyes from Ed's leg,…or the scarcity of it in that department. It made him self-conscious. They had decided to tie the left leg of his pants in a knot at about the knee to safeguard the dressings still wrapped around his thigh. He'd figured the dressings would make it more self-evident, yet presently, the shortfall of anything was agonizingly clear.

He hid his face in the nape of Al's neck. He outwardly groaned. Al didn't seem to acknowledge the noise and just kept walking. Of course, the brothers knew most of the people in this town, but it still didn't help when most of the looks Ed got were downright pitiful. He's sufficiently certain they had no idea what had transpired, but it's not like publicizing the information would alter the expressions on their faces.

Finally, they made it to the shop. Pinako had been waiting just outside looking for them.

“Ah, just in time. Hello, Alphonse.”

“Hi, Granny~”

“Where is your brother?”

“He's right here!” Al turned slightly to reveal Ed’s flat expression. He gave a slight wave of a hand. “I'm here…”

“Ah, Ed…” Taking a puff of her pipe. “Didn't see you there.”

Edward's eyes narrowed down at her. “What's that supposed to mean, you hag?!”

Pinako smirked around her pipe. “Oh nothing, small fry….” Turning to walk back into the shop.

Ed almost climbed off of Al's back in anger. “You get back here, you Witch!”

Al about lost his balance while trying to hold onto Ed. “Careful, Brother! I don't wanna drop you!”

Edward seethed as he gripped Al's shoulders. His temper scarcely calmed when Winry popped her head out.

“Would you just get in here, Ed. While the sun is still up?”

As Al walked onto the shop floor, Ed pouted a bit but stayed quiet.

“Set him down over there, Alphonse.” Pinako pulled on her gloves and pulled up a stool.

“Yes ma’am.” Walking over to a cushioned chair, Al slowly bent at the knees and guided Ed onto it.

“I got it Al.” Ed let go of Al's shoulders and placed himself down once he could touch the ground with his good leg. Al only moved out of the way once he was sure Ed was sitting.

“How long has it been?” Pinako took a puff of her pipe then placed it on a saucer. Ed just looked at her like she just spoke a foreign language and expected him to respond in kind.

“How long…?”

Alphonse cut in. “About two moons ago.”

“That should be long enough…Winry, take a look at the scarring and see if he's healed enough to at least do a fitting today. Then we'll take measurements.”

“Right!” Winry took the stool Pinako brought over and sat on it, hovering her gloved hands over Ed's tied pant leg.

“May I?”

Ed just blinked at her since this was all new territory to him, but he came back to reality and stammered out, “Yeah, go ahead….” He knew this had to happen, but he didn't want to see what it looked like either. He just watched as Winry pulled the knot apart and rolled the pant leg up his thigh, revealing the bandages.

“You okay?”

Ed looked up from his leg to Winry. He didn't realize that he apparently looked awkward and anxious. “I'm fine.”

She paused for a minute to gaze at him, then, at that point, moved to track down the end of the wrapping. When she lifted his thigh slightly, Ed had to shift his hip a bit to support his weight in the chair. Delicately unwrapping and rerolling the bandage to set it aside, Winry was finally able to see the damage, firsthand, caused by the King.

“Just tell me if anything hurts. It's really important if anything is tender or painful.”

“Got it…” Ed mentally prepared himself for pain.

Winry began poking and prodding at his stump. Around the sides and at the base of it, where it had scarred from sealing the wound.

The muscle in Ed’s thigh constricts. Winry looked up and stopped. “Does it hurt?”

“No…it's a…tingling sensation…”

“It could be nerve damage.” Pinako spoke up, standing off to the side, watching Winry massage Ed's thigh.

“Overall, it seems to have healed rather nicely. The seam is virtually gone and the scarring isn't all that lamentable.” Winry set his thigh down, but continued to touch in certain places.

Ed was fascinated by simply watching her hands move. He didn't have the foggiest idea about how she knew what and where to touch and what it implied. He's read his fair share of anatomy books, but seeing it in action was something to behold.

“Is it common for people in Amestris to have fake limbs?”

“More common than you think, kid…” Pinako crossed her arms. “It's a shame, but that's why I do what I do. It's something that gives people a reason to go on.”

Ed hummed and peered down at his legs. He couldn't bring himself to look at it for longer than a second. He felt a bit sick seeing the scarred tissue. Winry had started taking estimations of his thigh. She had to know the size of his leg and the length of it to appropriately fabricate his leg to match the other. “How long does this take?”

“You won't be walking on your own anytime soon.” Winry chimed in while she wrote numbers down. “So don't get any ideas, Ed.”

Offended, Ed crossed his arms. “I’m just asking. It's not like I'm itching to get back to clean-up duty.” He pouted, turning his head to face Al. Averting his gaze to look down. “Although I don't want Al to do all the work forever…”

“I already told you not to worry about that, brother.”

Ed knit his eyebrows together. “Still…”

“Work can wait; your rehabilitation is more important. Especially if you want your freedom back. I know you don't want to have to rely on Al anymore, not to mention at all, Ed. But let those who care help you sometimes.” Winry stood up and went to get an attachment for the model.

Ed groaned and scratched the back of his head in frustration. “Yeah, yeah, I already got the whole spiel from Al here…”

Al chuckled and Winry sat back down.

“But thanks for this….” Ed didn't look at her, or anyone, for that matter. He appeared to be embarrassed, yet it seemed as though he was only appreciative of this open door, given that he was going out of his mind after being disabled for only a few months.

Winry just smiled. ‘No problem, Ed. Now,” Squaring up her posture, she presented her hands, palm side up, to him. “I'm going to need you to sit on the edge of your seat so I can size you up.”

“Okay…” Ed took her hands and used her support to pull himself forward.

She cradled his limb in between her legs. Holding his thigh up enough to slide the open end of the attachment over his skin. She was more concerned with securely fastening it to him without obstructing his blood flow or causing discomfort, and she was unaware that Ed was practically observing everything she did. Pivoting at the waist to prehend the leg itself and drape it across her thigh to line it up with Ed's.

“I'll have to readjust it when you stand up…” Winry idly talked to no one in particular while she attached the leg and locked it in place.

Ed didn't particularly like the feeling, but it's supposed he's going to have to get used to this for the foreseeable future. Only then did he realize what Winry had said.

“Wait…you want me to stand up? How do I know it won't buckle or shift or-?” He looked panicked.

Winry frowned, bending the prosthetic at the knee to set it on the floor. “Are you trying to insult me, Ed?”

Ed stammered. “No! No! I didn't mean-”

“This is just a test; your model will be an impeccable fit, so it won't budge no matter how much you're bound to move.” Winry stood up and pulled the stool back and away to give them space, holding her hands out to him again. “Now stand up.”

Ed raised his gaze and studied Winry's face. Unquestionably, he trusted her completely, but right now, he didn't really trust himself. He last walked months ago. He had been sleeping intermittently. He wasn't psychologically ready for this phase of his recovery, but in order to eventually stand on his own two legs again—even if one of them is artificial—he would need to muster the courage to fall repeatedly.

Reaching up, he once more took her hands in his. She curled her fingers to firmly lock her hands around his, pressing her thumbs into his skin. To him, this was a sign that he was going to struggle, and she was already preparing to support his weight. He took a deep breath, looking down at the prosthetic first before positioning his good leg under him.

“Take it slow and easy. You need the leg to fully extend before you put weight on it fully. I don't want it buckling on you.”

“That's reassuring…” Ed sighs and premeditates that he will put most of his weight on his good leg. Not so much because he didn't trust this contraption that was attached to him, but more out of nerves and fear of falling. He struggled to pick himself up and relied a good bit on Winry’s support.

Everything seemed to be going just fine. Winry stepped forward with one foot to hold the prosthetic to the floor, just so it didn't move without Ed’s knowledge. She wanted to make sure he could comfortably stand so she could properly see how he positions his hips. She upheld his hands and peered down at his hip, the leg, and his stance. Analyzing how the leg shifts and moves. Glancing at Ed's face, he didn't appear to be confident at all.

“Center your weight so that I can see how you normally stand.”

“That's easier said than done…” He felt a bit shaky to her, but he complied and shifted to his left.

Winry continued to support the leg when he shifted the extra weight. Ed calculated his breathing as he fixated on simply standing. This, by itself, was not an easy task.

“I'm going to step back a little so it's just you on that leg, okay Ed?”

“Wait! Hold on just a second!”

“Ed, relax. You're doing fine.”

Ed gritted his teeth then folded his lips inward, peering down.

“Don't look down, you'll upset your balance. Look at me, Ed. I need you to stand on your own to get the proper measurements.”

“Gimme a minute, okay?” Ed was getting irritated, mostly with himself. He didn't feel sure enough about himself and his equilibrium to give up Winry's hands.

Winry loosened her hold on Ed's hands, giving him a moment to gather himself. She felt the tension in his fingers. He intermittently gripped her fingers tightly, digging his nails into her gloves a little. She let a moment go by, and he began to loosen his grip.

“Don't think about it too much. You should be able to balance yourself like it was your own limb.”

Ed's fierce golden gaze caught her eye for a second. He was really working through it just to do this. The determination in his eyes said it all. She was pleased with him, yet she really wanted him to concentrate now, she’ll have to tell him later. A glimmer of concern appeared in his gaze when she gradually removed her hands.

“If you absolutely need it, Al’s ready to catch you.” Winry quickly grabbed some tools off the table and busied herself with the particulars. Marginally adjusting the straps like she said she would and taking measurements accordingly.

“You're doing great, Ed.”

“Don't patronize me…” Ed grumbled and felt warmth in his cheeks. His arms themselves were parallel with the ground as he fought to balance himself. A look of concentration was plastered all over his face.

Ed was just a bundle of nerves right now. Al's hand had made its way into his line of sight, confidently waiting to be his knight in shining armor if he decided he wanted gravity to claim victory over him. Now that Ed was standing on his own, with the infrequent tug and pull of Winry's hands, he could actually see himself benefiting from this prosthetic thing. Even if he was just barely standing like a toddler, this was progress for him. He didn't like that he couldn't shift his weight. Every time he thought about moving his good leg, Winry would touch his thigh and push or pull in a direction to straighten him back out.

He hasn't been standing for long, yet his hip is starting to protest. Not to mention his stump. Indeed, there appeared to be cushioning inside the leg, yet putting his weight on something that wasn't intended to bear this sort of weight in this manner was beginning to hurt.

He gulped and felt his body start to shake; it was getting a bit uncomfortable. He willed himself not to say anything in fear of giving up too soon. How long might other new clients, at any point, remain here while getting a fitting? He didn't want her to start over or take additional time if he was unable to take the discomfort. He sucked it up, gnawed the inside of his lip, and gazed at the back wall.

“Brother?” Of course Alphonse noticed the strained expression Ed was trying to hide.

“I'm fine, Al.” The words that came out were a bit shaky and not at all reassuring.

Winry seemed to be done and sat her tools back on the table, recording a few additional notes and numbers. He attempted to see what she was writing; however, losing a bit of focus caused his balance to waver. Comically flailing his arms as he teeters, he managed to right himself after letting out an undignified ‘Wo-ah!’. Sticking his arms straight out to the sides to brace himself and wearing an obscure expression.

Winry turned, leaning on the table with one hand, she raised an eyebrow at him. “The shakes making you weak at the knees?” She found his demeanor amusing.

The light jab at his expense was irritating. “First time jitters…” Ed affirmed through gritted teeth, staring her down with fire in his eyes. If he could move without making a fool of himself right now….

She motioned for Al to help her guide him back down to a seated position, but Ed opted to take it upon himself, visibly relaxing and letting out a sigh.

“That's going to be part of your rehabilitation. First standing, then walking. It's important to get your leg used to the prosthetic and the pressure of being used.” Ed just groaned a response.

Pulling the stool back in front of him, she sat and unlocked his leg, setting it aside. He didn't like how fast she took it apart; it was a bit unnerving.

“Well this sounds like it's going to be a very annoying year…” Ed grumbled.

Winry shook her head, unbuckling Ed's leg and finally letting it breathe. “You won't be jumping off roofs in a year, Ed. Sorry to break it to you, but you'll be down and out for at least three.”

“Three!?”

Idly unrolling his pant leg to recover and tie it for him, taking his hand to place the roll of bandages in it. “Yes, three.” She subdued him with an intense gaze.

“You're relearning the fundamentals of walking again. It's going to take time. All the same, you'll be doing a lot of sitting too. You can't be on it at all times.” Closing his hand around the roll, she touches her finger to his knuckle. “And you don't need to wrap it anymore. Give it some air and keep it moving.”

Ed looked from his hand to her and blinked. Then deciding to groan dramatically and slouch. “You're killing me…”

Winry gave him a smug grin. “Actually, I'm saving you. It wouldn't kill you to appreciate me sometimes.” Patting the top of his thigh before standing and going to the table to organize her things.

Ed leaned forward, pressing a hand on his right knee and huffing. “I said thank you!”

“Yes. Yes, you did.” Winry points at him playfully with a tool in hand. “But I expect a lot more of those in the future.”

There's some controversy over rumours about there being a Sparrow Academy spin-off [1] and they mostly boil down to (understandable) disappointment over TUA getting only an abbreviated final fourth season and Steve Blackman and the rest of the production team then turning around and making a different but almost identical show.

And I thought I'd put some of the points + my own thoughts/assumptions on this together.

One of the theories (that I also find an understandable assumption) is that it's due to transphobic sentiments, that TUA was axed because of Elliot's and Viktor's transition and though I can't find any tangible evidence for that beyond the fact that they are now developing a similar show but minus the trans character, in the climate that we're currently dealing with, it could definitely also be transphobia, there's no way to know, but every reason to be vigilant about this sort of thing and hold creators accountable. And I also want to say, I do not give a shit about Steve Blackman either way, beyond the fact that he's made a show I like. I have no particular fondness or animosity towards him.

All that being said, I want to add one more point to this issue, because I think it's important not to get caught up in only blaming all this on one individual and not see how Netflix's bullshit plays into this.

Basically, Netflix likes to cancel even successful shows after three seasons because of their financing model that means they have to pay the studios and production companies exponentially more.

See this article on Deadline for more but the details are basically:

"I hear at least some of the cancellations on the list were prompted in part because the shows were deemed to have gotten too expensive. That is because of how many of Netflix’s series deals are structured. It is widely known that Netflix employs a “cost-plus” model, offering to pay upfront a show’s production costs plus a premium of 30%+ of the costs. Even after Netflix subtracts a distribution fee, outside studios are at break-even or in a positive territory from Day 1, versus having to deficit-finance series for the first few seasons on most traditional networks. But in exchange for the upfront payments, outside studios give up the potential upside that normally comes up with owning a long-running successful series, including off-network and international sales.

Instead, Netflix’s deals include bump/bonuses after each season that are getting progressively bigger. While the payments are relatively modest after Season 1 and a little bigger after Season 2, I hear they escalate after Season 3, especially for series owned by Netflix — sometimes from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars — as the studio starts to pay off the shows’ back-end. For series from outside studios, which I hear cost about 20% more than their Netflix-produced counterparts, I hear the built-in payment increases do not skyrocket as much but still are bigger after Season 3, Season 4 and beyond."

I also have to assume with the cast being made up of a hand full of very well established actors with a movie career and on the opposite end those who had never done a bigger project before TUA, they may all have an interest in going on to the next thing. TUA, as we've seen, takes a lot of time to film and has held all the cast back from doing much else, especially during Covid.

(Also, I'll be honest, I watch TUA for the characters, I'd probably find it hard to get into a spin-off, even one that was about only one or two of the Umbrellas. So, even if the whole background didn't sort of annoy me a little, I wouldn't bother anyway). And now I'm gonna look forward to 6 more eps of my babies in.... the next 12 months? Fuck knows when we'll get it 😅

What Makes You Beautiful / Cigarette Daydreams

technically starts out as a remake of the lady bird scene just with a little bit of ✨spice✨

As you rearranged the Vouge magazines, you can't help but to compare your own unique beauty to the models', increasing your insecurities more than usual. Your coworker noticed this and gave you a small pat on your back, assuring you that you were more than beautiful in his eyes. You looked back at him and gave a reasurring nod accompained with a fake smile, feeling guilty about the fact that you needed another soul but your own to make you feel beautiful.

"Alright miss, think you can maybe dump these outside while I stack these boxes up?" asked your manager, more of as a demand of course. You lost no time to build the courage to step out on your own, heading towards the garbage storage that stood across the street.

As you managed to make a step down the rusted stairs, you catch your gaze onto something else rather than your destination. A beautiful brunette man smoking a brand new cigarette caught your eye, making you drop the two black bags you had in hand watching them loudly roll over the stairs, producing a loud 'bang' sound to supress around your block.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!" you yelped to yourself rushing down the steps to clean up the mess you've made, tangling your left foot in between some old discarded wires, making you fall atrociously.

You felt a precense infront of you, managing to lift your head up feeling a slight bit of blood drip from your nose. Although the sun rays brutally attacked your eyes you managed to recognize the man who stood infront of you.

"Shit. Are you okay?" the beautiful stranger asked, reaching his hand over to your foot to untangle the wires which produced your embarrassing fall. Feeling nothing but embarrassment, you looked up to the man and nodded softly, assuring him that you were in fact alright, wiping your bloody nose harshly.

"Here let me help you, sure you're okay?" he asked once again, as you gripped onto his hand and allowed him to help you. "yeah just a little blood, sorry." you apologized, wiping a little blood you've accidentally dropped onto his black jacket, him looking down at you with a rewarding smile.

"No, dont be sorry beautiful, this jacket needed a heavy wash anyway." he affirmed slightly unfolding a napkin he had hidden in his t-shirt pocket, attaching it to your face rapidly. You felt yourself grow nervous to the nickname he put on you, allowing him to brush away the slight amount of blood that ran through your nose.

Silence filled the air as you allowed the precious individual to clean you up, catching your gaze with his own delicate one. He gracefully swiped the napkin up and down your face, making sure he cleaned up every little bit of blood and dirt that attached onto it, his fingertips swaying delicately on your cheeks, him concentrating deeply into his work.

"Want a cigarette?" the stranger asked to break the silence, you nodded slightly not breaking the staring contest you witheld, knowing well that you haven't smoked a thing in your life. Accepting your answer he reached into his internal jacket pocket and pulled out a worned out cigarette box, grabbing a single cigarette in between his huge fingers and placing it onto your lips, you taking the sign and sucking it in your mouth.

Didn't take long for him to reach in his pocket once again to pull out a well sticker decorated lighter, using his palm to block out the wind, lighting it softly onto the cigarette you held in between your lips.

You immediately inhaled the smoke, mimicking his previous actions, to catch yourself gasping for air as you choked on the smoke you had in mouth, him removing the cigarette you had in mouth instantly in worry. 

"Woah, woah!" he chuckled, watching as you coughed desperately nearly throwing up to the horrendous taste, suddenly feeling his soft pale hands reach in gripping onto your hair in hopes of preventing any puke to ruin it.

"Maybe it would've helped to let me know you've never smoked before." he proceeded to fool around letting your hair ago as you spit repeatedly onto the ground, turning back up to face him.

"I know, its jus-"

"Were you trying to impress me?"

"N-no what?"

"Shh.. don't worry, I can teach you."

You blushed to yourself to the way you were being spoken to, almost completely certain you were being flirted with, you built the strength to return the energy saying "you teach me then." Clearly catching him by surprise from the slight raise of eyebrows that came out of him, as he cleaned up the cigarette you nearly threw up on, lighting it up once again.

"Here, open your mouth." you do as you're told, feeling his cigarette breath tickle your nose once again. Him gliding the cigarette pass the entrance of your mouth and lifting your chin up to it slightly, signiling you to press your lips together around the cigarette, which you did. "Now, take a hit." he instructed, as your face grew with confusion.

"What's a hi-"

"Just inhale a little of smoke, but exhale it afterwards, okay? " he continued his unhealthy lesson, you following his every instruction, nodding softly.

"Good girl." he pronounced, making you pause and shift your gaze back into his eyes, accidentally blowing all the smoke onto his face in surprise. Thankfully he only laughed at your clumsiness, removing the cigarette from your mouth to not produce a bad unhealthy habit. Now taking the same cigarette extracted from your lips into his own, he grabbed onto your waist and demonstrated a few smoke tricks.

"Y/N! I told you to take out the trash not flirt with the first person you see." yelled out your manager from the bodega window in fluster, snapping his fingers for you accelerate your movements.

"Hmm.. so you're y/n? Im Kyle. Nice to meet you smoke virgin." Kyle teased, kissing the sweet spot of your neck before storming off in the black nissan he arrived in, before handing you the leftover pack of cigarettes you two smoked from.

You only waved him goodbye, holding onto the cigarette box tightly, just to feel a piece of crumbled up paper. Letting curiosity get the best of you, you managed to uncrumble the piece of paper, to discover an usual number with a small distorted winky face suited on it.

why I'm not happy about the cb/mOnO

mOnO is OnlyOneOf's announced new single to be released on September 10, 2021 and OnlyOneOf isn't excited about it.

Not to mention there's a song release while 8D Entertainment still refuses to address fans' concerns about Jisung's departure.

I'll put most of the rest of this under a cut because it's long and i'll be discussing bubble messages. but just in case you're like "what's mOnO?":

It's a digital single announced as their first 6 member release, first teased with individual portrait shoots starting September 1st and then more properly announced on September 7.

Under the tagline "from boy to man", it is supposed to convey a "more intense and mature look."

So here's all the things that bother me:

First, a few short comments on things I don't have a lot to say on but that are still notable:

- the line "from boy to man" really bothers me because their previous releases haven't been immature at all, they're literally all adults who for the most part manage their own content and Kyubin is literally 29 none of them are boys what are you on about?!

- the whole release, including the photoshoot, feels very rushed. the picture quality is... decent enough i guess? Except if you look at the group teaser picture, the "OOO" mark is incredibly low-res which is really weird for a watermark

look at that. what's that?

As I've said before, quoting the TV show Skins is... a choice I can't make sense of? And there was that one quote that wasn't even a real Skins quote. It really feels like 8D just ... googled that? And then didn't even fact check? Doesn't feel like something OOO would do. Doesn't feel like something Jaden would do..

- obviously it's ridiculous that 8D was silent for a month about a major reorganisation of their only group and them quite apparently silencing their members and then just drops some teaser as if everything is normal, that's a given and i'm not elaborating on it here because i talk about it literally every day.

- "mOnO", paired with the black and white pictures, the whole theme appears to be about "monochromatic" - anyway, here's a quote by Nine from an interview: "It means a lot to get away from black and white. By adding more elements and colors to our albums, we hope to represent our growth.” (he's talking about the ice and fire packaging)

JIKOOK MMA 2020- COMMENTARY

Disclaimer: This is a commentary, not an expert analysis. I am not a ballerina. LTRS.

Let's all agree right here, right now, that if ever a moment deserve to be immortalized for all eternity, that it is this moment right here: the moment Jungkook lifts Jimin off the ground- it is the most super iconic IT moment of the year as far as shipping goes. Damn, was it beautiful. Goddamn!

Personally, I had so many flashbacks of unchartered fantasies, hopes and dreams- the least delusional of which is JK saying with a deep voice, after lifting JM off the ground, 'would you marry me please' and Jimin, shook out of his wits would respond in Satoori, 'we are already married, you idiot. Now put me down!' Lol.

What? A girl can dream... Leave me alone. Lol

A lot has been said of this dance and so I won't rumble on for long. I'm just gonna focus on the moments that stood out for me:

The first of which would be the build up to that performance- BigHit, you sneaky conglomerate bastard! Lol.

Y'all saw what they did there right? For weeks I have been bombarded with questions about the seemingly 'tensions' between Jikook- everyone was slipping me the 'something is up with Jikook' pill but chilee, I look at them and all I could see was Jikook up in their shenanigans. Lol

I think I mentioned this in a previous post? Anywho. I think the thing that most of us was experiencing with Jikook was the unnecessary 'limited' interactions between them in the recent content we had been getting post Jimin's birthday but regardless, there were still moments of them 'giving themselves away' like in the Grammy reaction video when Jimin instinctively turned to JK in his moment of excitement.

His hesitation was worrying though, because normally he wouldn't- they wouldn't, hesitate to hug the person that they want to hug in their moments of emotional outbursts unless something was hindering them.

Ergo, I felt, if he was hesitating, then clearly it meant there was something holding him back or stressing their dynamic- I think I've definitely talked about this right? Instinctual reactions and all that jazz?

It didn't feel like he was having problems with Kook though, honestly. Because, in spite of all these little inconsistent moments of 'tensions' between them, Jimin for the most part has been giving me the vibe he is falling in love all over again with Kook- Dont ask me why. Lol. This is just gonna be one of those statements I make in passing. Take note of it though, I'll talk about it again soon.

But from the little I've seen post Jimin's birthday, that's the vibe I'm getting. If you believe Jimin is in love with Kook and you have an idea of when he started falling in love with Kook in their love Journey, then I think you'd catch the signs too? If not, never mind. Lol.

Every now and then, I see him go through this phase- in my opinion. I can't wait to talk about it. And yes, it is what I meant when I said Jikook's dynamics seem to have flipped again lately. Time to turn on the crazy. Lol.

These minimum interactions between Jikook however, to me, felt more as if they were being 'monitored' or asked to 'tone things down' by the company or something rather than that they were having actual issues in their relationship- know what I mean?

For the love of me, I couldn't figure out why the company would ask them to tone things down... Until the blackswan performance.

I feel somehow that the lack of content and moments between Jikook in recent times, coupled with the seemingly faux tensions between them prior to their performance at the MMAs, without question, contributed to the wow factor of their performance. In my opinion- but stay with me.

BigHit ain't slick. Lol.

It's so on brand for them though, isn't it? Demand and supply and all that jazz. Chilee. Scarcity inflates the value of a product. I mean we've seen JK lift and carry Jimin in their dance performances several times now yet we can't deny this came as a shock and surprise for us all because we had zero idea what was 'going on between Jikook' behind the cameras- straight up Jedi mind trick. Lol.

Not to say the performance itself wasn't spectacular in of its own. I'd be mad damn liar and a fool if I peddled that nonsense anywhere. Lol.

I just want to point out how BigHit utilizes and taps Jikook's brand and magic in their business model, as this provides a stark contrast against BTS's marketing strategy for their self produced Album Be.

I tried explaining in my LGO analysis, how that project was a personal project of BTS' as a group and how as a group they had their own perception of brand and what sells- or who sells amongst them, as such they weren't going to and didn't star Jikook in that project as front and center.

Contrasting that project to this project, which is more of a BigHit piloted project rather than a personal project of the group's, you can see how Jikook's brand stands out and how it is being highlighted or even exploited for maximum return.

This is what I mean when I say Jikook is a brand. A powerful brand at that and that BigHit has a stake in their brand.

Jikook once again, overshadowed and dare I say, over powered BTS's own brand in that Blackswan performance- chileee, that performance was so Jikookcentric I forgot the others were even there. Lol.

I mean I saw NamJin jump in the foreground somewhere... I'm gonna get canceled am I not? Lmho.

VHope were powerful too. But I couldn't help but notice how neither of those individuals could have sold it the way JK did, had they been in his shoes. V and Hobi both have stamina and presence, yet for some reason I just can't picture either of them lifting Jimin up and spinning him the way JK did and does- not that they can't...

It's just, they take the spotlight too. Jimin is captivating when he dances- or does anything quiet frankly. And usually, he shines under the spotlight when there is undivided attention on him.

When he is paired with Hobi, V or even Suga, very often they act as distractions as they tend to compete with him for the viewer's attention and as such they don't necessarily compliment him. In my opinion.

Often too, when he is paired with RM or Jin, he tends to outshine them and make them look like rookies- Namjin... bless their hearts. Lol.

Kookie is the only member in the group that I feel compliments Jimin- well. Not that he isn't a great dancer too like Hobi or V, it's just whenever he is paired with Jimin in a performance he has the tendency to waive his spotlight and cede it to Jimin by letting go off his own shine and spotlight as well as his competitive spirit so Jimin can be highlighted.

It's why he is the perfect partner for Jimin and the perfect choice for this role in their duet. I think. He pulled it off guys. He PULLED IT OFF-chef's kiss JK. Chef's fucking kiss! Lol.

JK often talks about how he prefers to 'be behind the cameras,' how he often films the members but doesn't like being filmed or being in the spotlight and you see this in his GCFs where he takes the back bench and allows Jimin or even the others to dally in front of the camera.

I don't know if he is aware he does this in his dance too- because for the longest time critics often commented on his stage presence or lack of it there off- their words not mine...

Frankly, I never saw it that way. Because, paired with any other member, he squares up. Chilee. Lmho.

It's one thing to look great next to your partner, it's another to look great together next to eachother and Jikook looked great together in that moment- just exquisite and outstandingly beautiful.

The point of the black swan dance as RM had said in their blackswan Film reaction video, is not to highlight all seven but one- Jimin and that is exactly what JK did on that stage.

Jimin I felt wasn't as intense as he often is in his solo performances. He is brutal in the way he captures attention when he performs alone on a stage. His aura is demanding and alluring and if you can tear your eyes away from him when he is in the height of his performances then- share your magic formula you lucky bastard. Free us all from Jimin's hold. HELP! Lol.

But for some reason, in this performance, he wasn't lost in himself in the moment. It took me a while to understand what was happening-he was equally relinquishing his shine so Kook could share the spotlight with him- please, leave me here to die.

They each compete against the members when they perform with them on a stage, but they never seem to compete against eachother. They move in awareness of eachother and lift eachother up. They enhance eachother's presence and when they collide it's harmonious. This is what we mean when we say Jikook compliment eachother- nobody is doing it like them.

They were both powerful in their strides, graceful in their descent. They did it. They killed it.

♡ Mercury retrograde in Scorpio is happening tonight. I can already feel/see it's influence. It also doesn't help matters that my current household is primarily made up of Scorpios or Plutonian individuals (most of my roommates are "essential workers" like EMTs or caretakers). Brad (the most Scorpio of the house) has called for a rare consideration; that there be silence in the living room (communal space) when he comes home. He's never asked for that before. This feels very symbolic of Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio. A moment of silence in our otherwise very talkative household. Besides that, he's coming home right around the time MRX/Scorpio would be officially beginning.

♤ Identifying omens is part of my practice. It's one of my oldest, foundational, cornerstones of how I communicate with the Universe and my guides. When you notice something (really notice it) to the point that it stands out in your mind and you end up thinking on it all day, it is an "omen". A symbolic representation of the message the Universe is sending you. I was given an omen by the Universe yesterday as to the immediate future/Mercury RX in Scorpio. I was outside (smoking) when I saw a hawk soaring in the air, being pursued by two black crows, and navigating around their assaults. The hawk (personally) represents my spiritual vision/focus/accuracy. The two crows, I believe, represented thoughts that attack my focus. I.e. Huginn and Muninn, thought and memory. Although, Huginn and Muninn are technically ravens. Not crows. I still think the message from the Universe is to tame my PTSD/where my mind goes/stay focused on my goals instead of letting my negative thoughts pick at me.

Also kind of reminds me of the qliphothic sphere/inverted sphere of Netzach. Where the "crows" pick at the beauty of Source. Another reminder to keep my inner criticism from attacking my spiritual focus/my ability to see the beauty in my life and self.

Two other people in the household got omens on the same day as me. One person got a vulture eating roadkill on the side of the road, the other got a brown cricket. Since the vulture means rebirth and ressurection through shadow work, I think the household is going through a transitional phase (what affects one person in the house typically touches all of us). I am not certain on the brown cricket, however. Good luck? What struck me the most about it was that my roommate was trying to catch it...and it always knew when to hop away just in the nick of time.

♧ I've been rearranging/unpacking my boxes from Seattle finally. For a long time now, I've just been living out of boxes, and refusing to do much magic. I didn't even set up my altar when I got all my stuff back from [Redacted abuser]. It's taken awhile to even get myself back to directly communicating with my guides...much less the Universe/Source. Anyways, I'm finally going through my boxes, and setting up an official altar area. When I was getting into my old rock and crystal collection (I was into that stuff way back before I realized how harmful the crystal/gemstone trend is for Earth's environment), I found an old piece of Mookaite that I friend gave me. And I shit you not, the thing physically vibrated in my hand when I touched it.

I've been holding it ever since. Have totally and honestly forgotten all the exact properties of the stones I own. It's been such a long time. I was also practicing "crystal/crystal energy psychicism" when I was homeless as a means to survive the streets so...I'm pretty sure my PTSD is blocking a lot of that information out.

I guess it's time to rediscover crystals again? Not buying any new ones. Just utilizing the ones I already have to the best of my ability. I feel like it was wrong that so many of them were taken from the ground to be pretty baubles for people. I might as well make it worth something by using them to help myself/others/incorporate them into my active life so they hold meaning.

Mookaite feels very grounding and soothing already. It feels like a very receptive stone, inviting energy into it much like organic pearls do. I also notice that it has almost a dream/trance-like affect to it's grounding energy. I think maybe I'll take time to meditate with it tomorrow.

◇ Brad pretty much runs the household that I live in. Further details; I live in a BDSM polycule, Brad is one of the doms. One of Brad's relationships was very close to being homeless recently. While normally, being homeless is... [redacted PTSD disassociating moment] being non-binary and homeless during COVID-19 is even worse. So we took them in. Inevitably, we had to make some major adjustments (about space, because technically we're fitting 9 people in a 2 bedroom house). It's been a test of adaptability through chaos for everyone. One of the major areas of contention is that everything inside the house is getting moved, rearranged, or tossed. And some people (mainly [redacted name]) is absolutely 100% terrible at adapting to change, unless someone is literally dying. Also, while I get that none of this can really be helped, I'm also a bit annoyed by the sudden introduction of someone new.

But even if I'm annoyed by it, I wasn't about to say "no" when Brad told us what was going on. I'm not a monster. I was homeless too and Brad helped me get off the streets. This person, while I don't know them well enough to make a judgement, deserves the same chance that I did to get stable in an era where stability is a pipe dream.

I'm actually not the one having the hardest problem. Surprising, it's the spirit of the house that's having the hardest problem. Our house is an old 1950's model built at the corner of a crossroads. Technically the house kinda exists as a liminal space. And there's so much stuffed inside of it that theoretically anything *could exist* in the house. Sometimes weird shit pops up and then disappears. It's very similar to the Seattle house I lived in when I was with [KILL BILL SIRENS] but has less of a metaphorical underworld cave vibe and more of a Howl's Moving Castle vibe. Anyways, the house itself is having a bad time adjusting to all the change/cleaning that the new roommate is doing...because it keeps hiding and moving (specifically) all the stuff that the new roommate has. They're not a stoner. They have a decently good memory. And I know that nobody in the house would do something like that. Plus, they apparently heard disembodied laughter right after discovering something was missing. The genuis locci (house spirit) is fucking with 'em hard.

I've never seen the genius locci do this before. The worst it ever did to me was hide a really expensive Egyptian cotton pillow case once. It eventually spat it back out after cuddling with it, I imagine. Seriously; Egyptian cotton sheets. Get you some.

So after the 100× time today that the new roommate was swearing about their missing things, I suggested that maybe they need to butter up the genius locci with gifts. Kinda romance the house a bit. Give it something so that it builds a relationship with the spirits that live here. They're a (self-professed) baby witch whose background is Jewish. They mostly excel at kitchen witchery (for now) and incorporating the works and wisdom of the Torah into their life. So they weren't too certain on ritualistic offerings to a house spirit. But with some suggestions from me and listening to their own intuition, they were able to put something quick together. It's nice to see people using magic around the house and learning new skills. And to their benefit, I felt the house chill out a bit after the ritual/gift giving was done.

I have been giving the house/my guides a portion of my nightly tea every now and then. It's honestly nothing fancy but I figure small gifts count for something right?

Where is My Mind?

Stress can make you feel like you're going crazy.

I cannot emphasize this enough. Long-term, persistent and intense stress well above your baseline levels can make you feel like you're losing your mind.

Life is stressful and when I think back to when the intense periods of stress started in mine it gets a bit ridiculous because I grew up in a domestically violent household with severely mentally ill parents in a country on the brink of civil war with one of the highest crime rates in the world. So I have been kinda stressed for a very long time. However, in more recent months, the level of acute stress I've been experiencing has made me feel disconnected from reality. I've experienced derealisation a number of times due to Lyrica withdrawal and accidental cannabis highs. But this one is different. The depersonalisation I’ve been experiencing is from pure, unrelenting stress. I really did question my sanity more than once.

 In July, I saw my psychologist to describe this feeling to her. She very helpfully drew a diagram which explained the neuroscience of why we feel this way when we've experienced high levels of stress for a long time. It was really helpful to see that because it reassured me that what I was feeling was, as much as this can be said, "normal", given the amount of strain I was under. But the stress hasn’t let up since then and I have been well above my baseline for much too long.

 Long story short, I haven't really recovered since my family visited me last year. 2018 was a year from hell. 2019 hasn’t been much better but for different reasons. Basically, the hardships I’ve endured being the leader of a non-profit all these years reached critical mass and finally, at long last, broke me. After 8 years of pouring all my heart, soul and every last spoon I had into it, I quit last month…and to very little fanfare at that. 3 people turned up for our final meeting, and only because we needed to hand them the organization’s physical assets. We had a little unplanned dinner out and that was that.

I'm grateful to the handful of people who have reassured me they will continue its legacy beyond my departure, genuinely I am, but overall I think I stayed in that position at least a year longer than I should have. I feel incredibly jaded and cynical about the whole thing.

 And I’m sorry if this offends anyone, but screw Sydney’s activists. The vast majority of them can barely call themselves that. I have never been in such an apathetic, vain, self-centered and lazy city when it comes to political activism. This migrant has had enough of trying to get Australians to care about their own issues. (And yeah, the people I handed the non-profit over to? Also migrants).

It is telling that the final meeting was also the night before we moved house (because we always had to wrap our own lives around the goings on of that organisation, not the other way around, which is another major reason we quit). So after an hour and a half’s drive into the city, we had to get home late to get up early the next day to start that fun process.

 But I am getting ahead of myself. Before we ever got to moving day, we first had to find a house. If you haven’t done it before, let me tell you, the process of house hunting on a tight budget in a hostile market is disgustingly stressful.

We were looking from June. The property market in Sydney is unbelievably expensive and even though it experienced a so-called "correction" for a year, (meaning that house prices stabilized instead of continuing to rise), that ended just as we entered into the property hunt. I am extremely grateful that we got the house we did at the price we did, but my God, getting to that point nearly killed me. I keep explaining to people that it felt as if my partner and I ran full blast over broken glass to the edge of a dock, leapt several metres and grabbed onto the barnacles of a departing ship by our fingernails. I really do think we may have been among the last millennials that got on that “property” ship, and it was only because, at long last, we had help from my partner's extremely wealthy parents. After shaming us for a decade for not being able to afford impossible house prices (“ok boomer…”), he finally relented and helped us out. Again, I'm grateful, but also disgusted that this is the world we live in. Housing should be a human right and we shouldn't have this intergenerational greed and infighting over something so basic. Forgive my inner socialist. 

Finding the house was only the first part of the equation; moving into it was the next step.

 The moving process was incredibly arduous. At the time we should have been packing up the house, my partner's work decided to send him interstate for business on multiple occasions. By the time moving day came round, we were not ready and we couldn't afford to pay removalists. We enlisted the help of two amazing friends and Joe's brother-in-law.
