Uneven Arms Race
Another group looted a nearby Starbucks,
and threw bags of coffee beans and bagels
at the officers, who formed a perimeter
around City Hall.
Tactical officers eventually arrived,
pushing the protestors back
using bikes and metal barricades.
           -a found poem.

🔥🔥🔥🔥 Posted @withrepost • @funklife4ever The other day, we took a moment to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon launch; well, today's the anniversary of the landing. Needless to say, it was a historic achievement of engineering and imagination, but it didn't come cheap. As mentioned in an article on cbsnews.com, "Between 1960 and 1973, NASA spent $28 billion developing the rockets, spacecraft and ground systems needed for what became the Apollo program. According to a recent analysis by the Planetary Society, that translates into an estimated $288.1 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars." Not everybody believed, then or now, that it was a worthwhile expenditure of taxpayer funds considering the challenges America faced back here on Earth; particularly, those related to poverty. Gil Scott-Heron, a self-described member of the "Common Sense Party," had this very thing in mind when he wrote the poem heard here, "Whitey On The Moon.” #gilscottheron #whiteyonthemoon #legend #greatness #genius #poet #poetry #poem #spokenword #apollo11 #moon #nasa #protest #socialprotest #inequality #socialinequality #poverty (at Elmwood Village) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0JPPoHnUeu/?igshid=yylkkdaur7sq

John 2:13-22 Jesus Cleanses the Temple
Tumblr media
Main Point: Drives out those who would turn it into merchandising.
Main Application: We should to.
Main Images/s: whip, temple
Illustrations: Fullwood FM Church, Court of the Gentiles.
13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand,
and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
This was the biggest celebration of the Jews and was like a New Year celebration (Passover started their year), a national holiday (celebrating freedom from Egyptian slavery and the birth of their nation proper) and a religious celebration. All of this meant that there was a sense of celebration in the air as Jerusalem’s population swelled with all of the religious tourists, beggars, additional soldiers, and businessmen. Jesus as was His custom traveled the 120-mile journey to be there.
14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen
         and sheep
            and doves,
and the money changers [b]doing business.
The merchants were doing a service by providing currency exchange and animals for sacrifice for the Passover. The problem was the rates of exchange were excessively and although the pilgrims were able to provide their own animals for the sacrifice because the priesthood received money from the merchants they would ensure that animals which had not been brought by a religiously authorized vendor, one of their own, it would fail the inspection and would not be allowed to be offered the problem was that their prices were artificially high which would have barred the poor from worship. In a smaller way the same way in which pew rents and worshippers wearing their best clothes was seen as a hurdle to the poor and working man during the early days of the Free Methodists Church.
15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the                    temple, with the sheep
                  and the oxen,
and poured out the changers’ money
                        and overturned the tables.
Jesus, who had seen this sight year after year and possibly said something, decides enough is enough and begins to drive the merchants and the animals or their merchandise out of the temple - this was enough to have Him killed.
The question that you may ask is that did this happen at the beginning of his ministry like John records or during the end. Well the experts are divided since the timeline of the events surrounding Jesus are not followed strictly instead the authors of the 4 accounts clump things together in themes but I think it is clear that Jesus cleansed the temple twice (at the beginning and end of His ministry) and not just once.
The second question may be in regards to the question of anger. Well although Buddhism requires the suppression and ultimate removal of emotion Judaism and Christianity believe in its importance and healthy expression. Jesus patiently and righteously gives us an example of righteous anger and social disobedience which we may be required to participate in from time to time. That is that we are required to fulfill the laws of the land and live at peace with all people but from time to time, incredibly cautiously, we must break the laws.
16 And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”
17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house           [c]has eaten Me up.”
Is this not what we often do? It is not that diversity in the church should not be commended but the merchandising of Jesus junk and Christian consumerism is a disturbing trend within own day. With different groups duplicating work, more and more english translations being produced while some people do not have the bible in their language and since Christians and churches don’t really give to the work of translation. For them, it was mainly for the construction and maintenance of a temple.
     18 So the Jews answered
and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us,
          since You do these things?”
The time of prophets had ceased and He was acting like a prophet.
19 Jesus answered
and said to them, “Destroy this temple,
and in three days I will raise it up.”
20 Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple,
and will You raise it up in three days?”
He probably pointed at Himself with the temple in the background. This is the first example of their inability to understand Him.
21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.
22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered
  that He had said this [d]to them;
     and they believed the Scripture
and the word which Jesus had said.
The Spirit reminds them and enables them to believe.

#animalliberation now! 🔴 BREAKING : DIRECT ACTION IN THE ANDERLECHT SLAUGHTERHOUSE (BRUSSELS - BELGIQUE) - SHARE ! The antispeciesist movement has sufficiently pleading with the rulers, has adequately organized kind marches in the streets on saturdays & has already made a pact with the industrialists of animal exploitation. All of this for what ? No result ! The victims have been sufficiently waiting. It’s to render the antispeciesist struggle a political combat, it’s time to take action concretely with boldness & fearlessness, it’s time to resist by the side of the oppressed, it’s time to blockade the system. 46 antispeciesist activists are currently blockading the death row of the Anderlecht’s slaughterhouse in Belgium. Confrontation is necessary in order to politicize & give credibility to the animal liberation movement. What are you waiting for to join the acts to the words ? @269.liberation_animale #269LibérationAnimaleBelgique #269LibérationAnimale #DirectAction #SocialProtest #SlaughterhouseAssault
