LEGEND OF ZHANG

summary: After Korra's death, the new avatar came to the world know as Zhang Kaito, born to a not so rich earthbender family. His mother Alia was a very powerful earthbender a great grand daughter of Toph herself. His father Li was a non bender, as well as his younger sister Jing.

Follow a joureny of Zhang and his friends as they climb their highest goals.

PROLOGUE

The gentle patter of rain tapped against the glass windows in the western Earth Kingdom, while outside, the faint mewling of cats could be heard, either frolicking or huddling together for warmth.

Atop a nearby hill nestled a small house, adorned with ivy leaves and moss. Adjacent to it, a tranquil pond provided sanctuary for fish.

From an ajar window, a soft light filtered into the room, signaling the early morning hour of 6 am. Within, a young boy of sixteen lay in bed, just having celebrated his birthday. His sister, a year younger, sat awake in the opposite corner, her patience worn thin by his incessant snores.

Fed up, she hurled her pillow at him, jolting him awake. "Hey!" he exclaimed indignantly, annoyed at being roused at such an early hour. "What's your problem?" he grumbled wearily.

"Brother dear, it's 6 am, and your snoring was keeping me from sleeping peacefully," Jeng retorted calmly, flashing a mischievous grin as she neatly made her bed.

"It's my birthday. Can't I sleep in?" the brunette boy protested, resenting having to share his cramped quarters with his sister, despite the cozy comfort of his bed. She often irked him, leaving him wishing he could find solace in the rain rather than enduring her company.

As he rose from bed and stretched, Jeng observed him curiously. "Did you always have that mark?" she inquired, pointing to a blue line running down his lower chest from his bellybutton.

"No, what the hell—" Zhang began, but his mother's voice interrupted from downstairs, summoning them both.

Hastily donning a shirt, Zhang implored his sister, "Jeng, don't tell Mom and Dad about this. They'll just freak out, okay?" He pleaded with a pleading gaze fixed on the blonde girl.

"Okay," she nodded, following him downstairs at a leisurely pace.

"There he is!" Alia beamed at her son, enveloping him in a warm embrace. "Happy birthday, sweetheart. I've prepared breakfast; your father will join us shortly."

"Thank you, Mom," Zhang expressed his gratitude, taking a seat at the table. Across from him, Jeng watched with curiosity as he devoured his meal.

"Mum, I was thinking," Jeng interjected, catching her mother's attention. "As you know, I'm part of the generation that could potentially meet the Avatar, like Gran Toph did. Do you think I could?"

Suppressing a chuckle, Alia playfully smacked the back of Zhang's head with a spatula. "Well, honey, the odds are slim, but I don't see why not," she reassured her daughter with a warm smile.

"How do they identify the Avatar?" Jeng inquired, her eyes wide with curiosity.

"At the age of 16, the Avatar is revealed, and their duty is to restore balance to the world," Alia explained, casting a knowing glance at her son. "Who knows, perhaps Zhang here—" She trailed off as Zhang shot her a deathly glare. "Or perhaps not," she amended with a chuckle.

Rolling his eyes, Zhang reached for the salt shaker, only for it to be swept off the table by an unseen force, plunging the room into stunned silence. Frozen in shock, Zhang withdrew his hand, eyes wide with disbelief.

"Or perhaps, yes," Alia murmured, rising from her seat and exiting the kitchen.

"How did you do that?" Jeng gasped in astonishment. "That shaker just flew across the room!" she exclaimed.

Terrified, Zhang fled upstairs to the bathroom, where he stared at his reflection in the mirror. Lifting his shirt, he gazed in awe as the blue line he had noticed earlier now emitted a faint glow.

"I'm the Avatar…" he whispered to himself, the realization sinking in.

This is story had been published on my wattpad, and I decide to bring it over here.

The war of the nations had been going on for 100 years and the fire nation kept on gaining ground and power, all over all the other nations. There had been a time of peace that came in the war and that peace was made through a political marriage or arrange marriage. That marriage was your marriage the second daughter of Hakoda of the southern watertribe you had been given away in marriage. As you were not just marrying the fire lord son, but also another Nobel man that is an ambassador. All the other nations and everyone thought this will be for the best as no wanted anymore war to happen.

Sokka " don't you think we all feel that you haven't been doing anything but stay here and healing, while the rest of us have been risking it all"

Toph " I can sense many emotions right now"

Sokka " if we don't have an answer by the end of week the war the fire lord wish for answers"

Aang " y/n I make a promises as an avatar and air bender if anything happen I will come help you, as you have my oath as avatar and all those that came before me"

Katara " fine go while we stay here and think about a back up plan" you could feel you were not welcome so you had soon taken your leave right away. As you were walking you had been getting cold shoulder from many people as they were all in fear.

You had been given the opportunity to get to know some of future family better. That next day you had left your home.

Mao " yes it will be good as we all should keep what we love most close to our hearts" this marriage was not going to be bad after all, you had been able to get to know your husbands better and their created famiky good as well. Life is going to be hard away from the water tribe but you know you will adapt to your new life and home.

I continue watching the show Master Pakku has been presenting to us. It was intriguing, for sure but what was more enjoyable was a southern water tribe member poorly flirting with my sister. She only taught how to heal however but what more can you do in this kind of situation. It's only fair I show respect for her by bringing her food, supplies, trinkets or even my presence. Before I stepped foot I overheard her talking to…someone? I take a little peek, leaning my body so only my eyes would be visible towards the door. It was the southern water tribe girl! What is she doing here…? Looking further towards the door only to realize she’s a waterbender…She's a water bender! I could use her to somehow convince Master Pakku and my father. Yes, it sounds horrible. Using an important guest to my own advantage but it's beneficial for everyone, even her so it's not entirely selfish. I wasn't able to convince Master Pakku. Instead he told my father my plan which led me to get in more trouble than I already was. I'm just a princess, and that's all I will ever be. My head snapped up as I heard the Southern Water Tribe girl coming closer. I took the chance to grab her wrist and pull her to the side. “Hey! Who-” “It's me!” I said pointing to my very obvious white hair. “Oh you're the younger princess! What happened?” “You can waterbend? Correct?” I asked already knowing the answer “Yes…why?” “Because I feel like you can convince Master Pakku to allow us girls to waterbend” I whisper “A lot of girls have water bending abilities however they’re forced to keep it in because of the strict rules but!” I pointed at her “Your the southern side of the water tribe, maybe somehow show him your abilities and possibly convince him to allow girls to water bend” She looked at me confused. “How am I able to do that when I can't even learn whatever he is teaching?” I thought about it for a second until an idea popped into my head “Get it from your avatar friend! He is getting taught, right?” Her eyes widened as she nodded “You're right! Then I'll get it from him. Thank you…uh- princess…” I giggled “Y/N, just call me Y/N” “Katara” “Thank you Katara” I smiled as she walked away.

And this was the last thing I wanted. Seeing Katara and Master Pakku fight with waterbending. “This is all my fault” I muttered under my breath. “Your fault?” Yue attempted to confirm my statement. “What?” I look at her confused. Did I really say that out loud? “You said something” “I'm sure I did not” “But I hear-”

A big wave of water hit the ice, hearing the splash turned me away from the conversation. Both Yue and I were wincing from the sound of the impact. Last thing I see is Katara with a bunch of icicles surrounding her. She…lost…

I sigh sadly as I go to grab Katara's betrothal necklace that laid on the icy floor. But before I was able to, “This is my necklace…” Master Pakku grabs it gently. I immediately walked back. Ah…so the southern tribe existed because Katara’s family members did not want to stay in an area with unnecessary rules. It was quick to piece together. I heard Yue’s breathing become unstable, so I turned to look at her but she didn't look back. She was slightly shaking and tears were brimming her blue eyes. “Yue…” I spoke softly and sadly, reaching for her shoulders but she ran, covering her eyes with her hands to prevent more tears from falling. “Yue!” I yelled, already planning to chase her only for the southern water tribe boy to pull me back. “I’ll get her” He gave a reassuring smile then ran towards Yue. Both of them slowly disappearing. I wonder if he knows why Yue was crying. I furrowed my eyebrows in pity and turned on my heel to go back. “Y/N!” Katara yelled out for me, I turned towards her direction. “Thank you” she said out of breath. “I didn't really do anything” “You helped me gain confidence” She smiled “Well…your welcome and thank you for…all of that” I patted her on the head and she laughed. “You're an amazing water bender” I said and turned to go home. I sigh sadly wondering if Yue is alright.

When Zuko finally changed his way and decided to help bring the reign of his nation to an end you were beyond happy.

You met up with them after the attack on the air temple, and you walked over to the prince and sat next to him.

You laughed a little and stood up.

Zuko watched you intently as you started to slowly move, gently you moved the air around you with such ease and Grace.

“Zuko, do you know what air and life have in common?”

You laughed again and shook your head.

“No, like life, air can be harsh, cruel and unforgiving, but with a little work, you can tame it, befriend it and show it how to move with kindness.”

You stopped and turned around.

“All the elements work hand in hand, each helps strengthen as well as destroy one another. Sometimes people make the wrong choices in life, and that’s okay, without taking a few wrong turns we can never find where we are supposed to be.”

Zuko sighed, shrugging his shoulders as he looked away.

“I don’t understand where I’m supposed to be in life…”

Walking over, you knelt in front of him, placing a hand on his shoulder as you gave him a smile.

“You are exactly where you are supposed to be, and where you’re supposed to always be Prince Zuko. And you are exactly who you are supposed to be.”

Patting his shoulder a little, you got up and walked to the edge of the cliff and sat down, taking a deep breath as you closed your eyes and began to meditate.

Zuko walked away but he kept thinking about what you told him, he still couldn’t fully understand what you were trying to tell him.

Zuko walked over to where you were still sat, and he sat down next to you.

Glancing at you, he turned away back to the moonrise.

“How do I know if I am the person I am supposed to be?”

“You won’t know, it isn’t something you simply know. But you will feel it, maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow but one day.”

“Do you know if you’re the person you’re supposed to be?” Zuko asked.

You sighed, and opened your eyes.

“If I’m to be honest with you Zuko, no. I am not the person I am supposed to be, I know this. The person I am supposed to be was over a hundred years ago, when I declined my markings. That was who I was supposed to be, I was supposed to gain my tattoos, showing that I had indeed passed all my training.”

“But you didn’t?”

“No, I refused to accept that I was no longer a child, so I ran away. I gave up being the person I was supposed for my childish mentality and for my brother.”

“Would you change that if you could?”

Turning to face Zuko, you waited for him to do the same before you spoke again.

“No. I wouldn’t change the things I have done, they have made me who I am today, as have yours. You are not a bad person Zuko, I know that for sure.”

He smiled at little and you smiled back.

“Thank you (Y/N).”

“You’re much welcome.”

You and Zuko sat staring at the moon for a little bit before he spoke up again.

“(Y/N)?”

You turned to face Zuko.

“Yeah?”

“Tell me more above what the monks taught you.”

“Sure, come with me.”

Standing up. You held you hand out to help Zuko up, and when he was you let go.

Zuko brush his hand against yours, and you smiled a little bit at him, letting him take your hand in his again.

You led him away from the camp and stood staring at the stars hand in hand as you imparted on him all the wisdom that you had been taught all those years ago.

As Zuko stood there listening, he wondered why they would try get rid of the air nation, you were smart, caring and gentle, nothing like him.

He looked down at your hand in his, and turned back to looking at you.

You had taught him everything everything he knew about changing the world for the better.

And in that moment he decided he wanted you to be by his side for the rest of your times on earth, he wanted you to be the one to keep him on the right path and fix the damage his nation had created

“I’m f-fine” Your voice was shaky,but that only made him more worried about you. Katara was suddenly by your side,you hadn’t even noticed. He pulled you closer to him,you could feel his chest rise and fall as he breathed the next thing you felt were his tears on your cheek. He was crying,you moved your hand to his cheek.

“Y/N I-I can’t lose you,not like this”

“And you’re not going too,I’ll be fine” You wrapped your arm around him,pulling him closer to you. “The new firelord shouldn’t cry” You heard him scoff followed by a small laugh. “You ready for that?”

You were completely fine in a few days,although you were left with a mark on your arm. Zuko was by your side all day and night,even delaying his coronation to take care of you. But you were back on your feet now and everything was back on track. You were waiting for him along with everyone else. After his coronation he was practically glued to you,refusing to leave your side. Until you were in Ba sing se.

“I brought you some tea”

“Thank you” You were just handing out as Sokka was still trying to paint everyone,keyword is trying. When a messenger hawk landed outside,a black ribbon message. Zuko immediately ran outside to grab the letter. He read through it and his face lit up. “What is it?”

“There was one thing I really wanted to change ever since I was really young,it was a law I never really understood” He paused. “Ever since I met you I wanted that law gone” You immediately knew what law he was talking about,Sozin’s law.

“You got rid of it”

“I did” You tackled him into a hug and he spun you around. “Y/N,will you marry me?”

You had soon got dressed for bed and laid in the bed, praying the rest of the time here will be good. There had been some news you had kept from everyone, that was meant to be shared later on but that might not go to plan after all. Right now your duty was to keep the peace for the two nation, and make sure you children stay safe as well. Just maybe you will be able to rebuild your relationship with your family and tribe, and everything will be god juts mayeb indeed.
