So @thebibliosphere posted an ask response about what the Bat Fam would think of her book, and frankly this is fucking brilliant and I think everyone should do this as a thought experiment with various fandoms and original work OR fanfic.

Hey! So I know you are a Kitty Wilde fan and she didn’t interest me much personally while I was watching the show. But your gorgeous gif sets grabbed my attention so I wanted to ask you if you could talk about the reasons you like her (if you haven’t yet already) because I want to know more about her now, if you want to talk about it of course no pressure <3

Ooooh thank you for the opportunity! I don't think I ever actually did a post that was just, here's why I love Kitty, so I'll gladly share some thoughts.

I have a really long character analysis in the works all about Kitty, her themes and her arc but at this point that's been a work in progress for an actual year and I feel like I should stop going on about it and finish it instead lol. I'm just noting this to say that I'll mention a few things about her character that I won't elaborate on right now but hopefully I can finish that at some point this century and really go in depth about what I mean.

So, Kitty. I think such a huge part, though not all of my fascination with her can be contributed to Becca Tobin and how she elevated this role that was supposed to be RM finally getting to have an irredeemably evil blonde cheerleader. She's written as such a vile person in the beginning and does arguably the most horrible thing in the show that I did start off hating her. I even said to my sister while we were watching season 4 for the first time, "wow she sucks so much." But even then I think Becca Tobin did her best trying to give some sort of depth to this intentionally one note character. I think the best proof we have, other than the whole ED storyline itself, that the creators didn't want Kitty to be more than pure evil is that they deleted what could have been a really poignant scene in Swan Song. Imagine thinking the stupid "lesbian blogger" jokes had more of a right to be in the final version than a much-needed scene between Kitty and Marley. I hate this show, anyway.

But then, whether because they saw what Becca could do with his character in this scene or some other reason, the writers decided to actually do something with this character. I think it’s understandable that for some she never quite redeems herself for the Marley mess, and in fact this initial run of Kitty’s character is probably the reason why it’s taking me so long to write her character analysis. It’s horrifying on a level that’s only second to IKAG imo. But as someone who did hate Kitty during the ED storyline, I did grow to care for her. She has a subtle but nice plot in the second half of season 4 about becoming a true part of the club, most notably in Guilty Pleasures after Brittany confronts her. She finally apologizes to Marley in Shooting Star. She shows vulnerability with Ryder and bonds with him after the shit he gets from Sam and Artie’s during their big flop moment. There’s the Wonder-ful plot with Artie, where Kitty helps someone just because she wants to. By the end of the season 4 she’s much more of a mean girl in the vein of Santana, so a bitch but with good qualities instead of being the evil incarnate she starts out as.

And you know, I do try to make the ED stuff make sense on a character level in my essay, but the truth is the writers didn’t care to make Kitty an actual character in the beginning. The immense charisma that Becca brings to the role, as well her skills as a true triple threat really help elevate Kitty into a real member of the club - best new dancer along with Jake, unique and amazing voice, acting chops on par with the best of the first gen kids. Like I say I think she starts becoming much more interesting in season 4 and then season 5 clearly knows better what to do with her. Some episodes, anyway, like the Beatles two-parter. I love Wildebrams, I love how we’re actually acknowledging Kitty’s struggle of balancing the Glee Club with the Cheerios.

And when she returns in season 6, I looove that we’re at least dealing a little bit with how she felt left behind, after how long it took for her to embrace Glee Club and how important it became. I also think she has fascinating themes of beauty and sexuality, questions of community, trust, all that. Her trauma as revealed in Lights Out is only ever mentioned in that episode but I think it recontextualizes a lot of her moments and all the little crumbs turn her into a fascinating character. I wouldn’t necessarily say “layered” or “well-written” because that would be crediting the writers and frankly, fuck them, but Kitty still ended up becoming a much more engaging character than she was initially intended to be.

I don’t know how good of a summary that was but, yeah. I find Kitty to be suuuper interesting, engaging to watch, and I am a sucker for characters who become more than what they were meant to be. I think she’s the true shining star of the later seasons and since finishing the show has become a top 4 character for me. Certainly top 3 in terms of who I could go on and on about haha. And that’s fitting because she’s basically a Quinntana love child and they’re my top 2 in this sense. I’d love to discuss her more if you or any others have particular storylines or moments of interest, or just any thoughts. I totally get if Kitty’s not your cup of tea, I just think there’s a lot of accidental greatness with her - accidental on the writers’ part, Becca Tobin deserves all the credit.

Did you ever like Artie? And Puck? (Puck as in the character and not the actor) did you ever like Finn? What about Shue?

i love that we are slowly cycling through my opinions on all the glee characters lmao

artie... he's a weird dude. he says a lot of like... uncomfortable stuff? and has a habit of sexualising the glee girls. so i don't particularly vibe with that. there is something about him that i enjoy, but i think it's mainly that kevin brought a lot of charm into artie's awkward nerdy non-asshole side. he has some sweet moments with puck and quinn and kitty and possibly more people but i can't remember anything rn lol, so he's one of the characters i'm more torn on. also, similarly to tina, he is introduced in the pilot and then just... doesn't get much to do? so again, fuck the writers. i've been saying that a lot recently but i stand by it. before i move on, i would like to quickly add that his voice is so good? imagine if he'd gotten to sing more on the show... but no he got sidelined almost immediately because rachel didn't want to sing duets with a kid in a wheelchair.

i have similar feelings about puck, in that he definitely has a lot of suuuper questionable moments that i do not want to delve into. the difference, though, is that puck gets a lot more growth. i think bella is able to explain that better than i can in this post as well as the other ones she linked. puck isn't high on my fav glee kids list but i really like that he does grow so much in s2-3. i think the writers kind of undo some of that in s4 with the whole puck and kitty thing but overall puck is really interesting.

i've already talked a bit about finn here but to summarize that, i appreciate the finn i have constructed in my head (vb au finn lol) way more than canon finn because of how the writers handled a lot of his storylines. i do really like some of his canon moments, especially in s4, but overall he frustrates me a lot. also i wish finn had gotten more solos? like his voice is perfect for classic rock and i have been listening to a lot of that lately and idk it would've been nice to hear him sing either by himself or even duets with glee kids that aren't rachel?

Post #90: XF issue 11 and UXM issue 213

Picking up immediately after the Power Pack crossover, Hank and Bobby are ambushed by some Morlocks who think they're Marauders. Masque is one of them, joined by Berserker, an electrokinetic, Scaleface, who turns into a giant lizard, and Blow-Hard, my new favorite superhero, who blows on things really hard. The fight is interrupted when Scott, Jean, Artie, and the comatose Warren arrive and clear the air, inviting them to come with them. Just before this, Artie, attempting to convey the message Warren gave him for Jean, shows her a vision of Warren hugging her, which makes Scott get all stoic and angsty again. When they get back to HQ, Scott and Jean take Warren to a hospital, while Berserker and his gang, who don't trust X-Factor, sneak out. They run into some muggers, who tragically shoot Blow-Hard and get electrocuted in response. Scott and Jean see this on the news in the hospital waiting room and jump at the chance to go beat someone up instead of sitting around. There's a quick interlude at a veteran's hospital in Georgia, where Abe Kieros, a mutant in an iron lung with the power to make stuff blow up, is recruited by Apocalypse. Catching back up to Scott and Jean, they arrive on the scene just as the cops murder Scaleface and injure Masque, making Berserker go crazy. Scott tries to subdue him but accidentally knocks him into the water, where he electrocutes himself. To Scott, this is just more blood on his hands, but to Jean, they saved Masque's life, and that's worth something. They get back to the hospital, where the doctor tells them Warren will live, but they had to amputate his wings. In the teaser for next issue, Boom-Boom, the mutant girl from SWII, has been working as a thief for Vanisher, an old X-Men villain. She quits and threatens to call X-Factor on him. The best parts of this issue were the scenes of recovery from the Massacre, and I wish there had been more of that and less crazy Morlocks. But it was still good overall.

Betsy takes center stage in the finale to the X-Men side of the storyline. She's using Cerebro to project her psychic self through the mansion, checking on the wounded and on the rooms of the missing New Mutants. Speaking of which, she and Doug have a weird flirty thing going on, which is so very creepy. Luckily it never goes as far as Peter and Kitty. Betsy feels out of place, not fully accepted by the X-Men. Her scans of the mansion are cut short when she detects Sabretooth entering the ground and tries to scan his mind, but is knocked for a loop by how evil his brain is, I guess. In the tunnels, Logan tells Ororo that the lightning blast wiped out all traces of the New Mutants scent. It also destroyed every last bit of the Morlocks home. Ororo wonders if its her fault; lately, there have been a lot of storms around when she's in a fight, and she fears her powers are coming back in a way she can't control. There's an interlude in LA, where Malice continues to stalk Alison, this time taking possession of her body. Back at the mansion, Anna hasn't stopped patrolling the grounds, and she's exhausted- an easy target for Sabretooth, who takes her down. He makes his way inside and attacks Betsy, who runs to draw him away from the injured Morlocks. She fights back with every weapon she can get her hands on, determined to protect people, but she's no match for Sabretooth. Logan returns just in time, though, and starts fighting with Sabretooth. Max and Ororo plan to join in, but Betsy tells them that as long as Sabretooth is distracted with Logan, she can slip into his mind and get information. Ororo tells her to go for it, and she succeeds, although we don't get to see what all info she got. When Sabretooth realizes what happened, he jumps into the lake and escapes before the X-Men gang up on him. Ororo, Logan, and Anna, the only X-Men left, unanimously offer Betsy a place on the team, which she accepts.

This might be my favorite Marvel crossover ever. It's also, I think, the most complete loss the heroes have ever had in an event this big. At this point, mutants are Marvel's most successful franchise, and Claremont and Simonson could have just coasted on that. But instead, they chose to write a story that would take several of their most popular characters out of the books and set up a bunch of bold new plot threads. I think, more than any other evil team we've seen, the Marauders are the anti-X-Men. The way they synergize their fighting styles and have a bunch of different little interpersonal relationships is very reminiscent of what makes the X-Men so interesting, except they're also completely devoid of morals. They'll be a big part of the franchise for the next few years, and bring out sides of our heroes that we haven't seen before. And even beyond them, there were so many plots set up for all three books. I've been looking forward to getting to this story, and it did not disappoint.

The High School Glee Club Musical Madness Part 2

Kitty tells Artie he has to give her the role of Sharpay and he says he can't just give her the role because she's his girlfriend and he has to be professional cause it's his last play before going to NY, wondering about what will happen with their relationship when he goes away, they sing Right Here, Right Now (in my fantasy world, Artie was a better boyfriend to her and they don't breakup when he leaves) (also I like to think in the end either Tina or Unique got the Sharpay role #justiceforRizzo, just headcanon whatever you want here lol).

Kurt goes to Ohio to see the play and after he tells Blaine his good news, they celebrate dancing but also helping Blaine to practice by singing Can I Have This Dance 🥺 (This is my favorite gif of them dancing cause Kurt looks like some pretty jumping pony and Blaine is just so happy he's happy and I'm ugh 🥺, I already have a full post about this particular song with Klaine btw in last week's paintbox, check that out lol).

Mercedes also went to see the play and she tells Sam he looks good with Marley, that he has to move on and be with her or someone else, but Sam says he can't and they sing You Are The Music In Me.

I Don't Dance- Jake and Blaine

The only actual song we see of the play lol (Kinda like in Grease where we only saw 2 actual songs of the play, and I kinda went on an song limit for each post cause I didn't wanna make it too long, also I know this is from HSM2 but I'd like to think the play they did was a mix between the 3 movies but cutting stuff of course, also because Blaine is Ryan and Jake is Chad so, also a treat for the Blake shippers).

The second song we kinda see of the play gets cut in half because at mid We're All In This Together (of course this one had to be here but I've reached my limit so I imagine this getting interrupted while Tina is singing because she never wins anything, sorry Tina stans, but it's not Glee without this I guess, but my episode headcanon is also a little choose your own story so you can change this lol) Sue boicots the show because they didn't give Becky the role of Sharpay (I ran out of creativity to think how she interrupts it, feel free to give ideas).

Rachel also went to see the play and Finn wants her to stay but she tells him she got a role and has to go because she belongs in NY (kinda like the scene in Glease) they sing Gotta Go My Own Way.

After Rachel leaves him, Finn sings a mashup of Troy's dramatic crisis songs Bet On It/Scream (and yes I image the hallways of the school also rotate lmao).

Finn goes back to college (I imagine Finn and Will intertwine weeks with the Glee club so he didn't left completely) and Puck tries to cheer Finn up and tells him he should get over Rachel and they sing The Boys Are Back.

Everyday- New directions with Hummelpezberry in NY

They perform this as the ending song for Will while the ones in NY celebrate for their roles. (I didn't know what else to do with Santana besides Fabulous sorry, but give me ideas as to what she is celebrating).

99 Perspectives on a Single Love Story #70

A/N: The Story of Kurt and Blaine told through the eyes of everyone else but them. Each chapter is a different perspective in the ongoing tale of their love story.

I started something like this a while back - and now I’m taking the idea and really running with it. Each chapter is a ficlet of a different character at a different point in Kurt and Blaine’s life - documenting their love story. This starts in Audition, and each chapter will be paired with a different episode until reaching Dreams Come True.

70 : Penny Owen (A Katy or a Gaga) 

“It’s just so lovely to see two Katys enjoying their romance together.” 

Penny Owen is sitting on a bench just outside the school, listening to Sam Evans do some of his hilarious impressions when Sam’s oddly glued-to-his-side best friend, Blaine Anderson sits down beside them.  She’s been having fun with Sam - he’s such a sweetheart - but their romance, she believes, will be short lived.  They’re only a year apart age wise, but Sam is moving to New York in the fall, and Penny has been contemplating a move to Columbus.  The two of them are both aware it’s not going to last forever, and are happy in the meantime to enjoy each other’s company.  Blaine, however, seems to get misty eyed every time he sees them together - always spouting off overly flowery sentiment about their relationship.  It’s cute, but a bit much.  

“Two Katys?” she asks.  “Oh, we’re still doing that, okay.”  She can’t say she follows all of the weird ideas that stem from the glee club, but she goes with it best she can.  

“Yes,” Blaine nods. “There’s nothing more perfect than two Katys meeting and falling love.  Their musical chemistry is in perfect harmony, and it’s only amplified when you’re with one another.”  Penny isn’t sure if he’s playing the idea up or dead serious.  It’s hard to tell sometimes with Blaine, and Sam often just shrugs it off as if he doesn’t know either.  

“But don’t you keep saying that your fiance is a Gaga and that you are a Katy?” Penny asks.  She knows better than to bring up the fiance.  Blaine never shuts up about the fiance. But she can’t help but point out the strange logic in his commentary.  “So, does it make more sense for two Katys to be in a romance or a Katy and a Gaga to balance each other out?” 

“Well, Katy and Gaga do complement each other,” Blaine points out.  “Sometimes you need discordant harmonies to make a great melody.”  

Sam lets out a laugh.  “I mean, I guess Kurt as a Gaga makes sense. He is always wearing things I don’t understand.  But he’s also not that dark and edgy, Blaine.  I’m sorry, he’s just not.  He’s just… Kurt.  And, I wouldn’t count yourself out, Blaine.  I have definitely seen your dark side.  Remember the time you lost to Artie and Kitty last time we all went bumper bowling? I’m totally glad Tina and I were in the other lane.” 

Blaine clenches his jaw and purses his lips.  “I was just having an off day,” he says dismissively.  

“OOhh, I love bumper bowling,” Penny coos.  ��We should do that sometime!” 

She pats Sam’s arm excitedly, but he’s still deep in thought over the whole Katy and Gaga conversation.  

“Here’s the thing that doesn’t make sense to me, though,” Sam says.  “You see, Lady Gaga can seem really edgy on the outside, but then, like, she’s always doing charities and is really nice to people and stuff, which makes her actually like a Katy.  And Katy Perry has this bad girl thing going - I mean she looks all seductive in her music videos and so she’s got, like, a darker side to her, right?  Plus, she’s always dressing up in strange costumes, kind of like Gaga.  So, if Katy is like Gaga and Gaga is like Katy, wouldn’t that mean they’re kind of the same and not different?” 

Penny nods her head frantically, impressed at how wise Sam can be.  Blaine, meanwhile, looks as though his entire worldview has been shattered.  

“Maybe they’re like mirror images of each other more than opposites,” Penny points out.  “And that’s why they complement each other well.”  

Blaine’s still silently processing.

Good Morning! It is 8am on a Sunday! and I want to go back to sleep! but I have a train to catch at 9!

So, Birthdays!! I posted about it on Reddit like almost a year ago (the first thing i ever did on reddit, actually!) So I'll copy paste that and change some things because i think I have changed some things since.

So I started this because of my fic series One More New Direction and i went a bit inane due to, like, timelines. so i wanted to give everyone birthdays if they didn't already have them. (and obviously have a note of them all just in case they could be used in the plot)

Here is a screenshot from my timeline google sheets of all of the birthdays (ignore the OCs and the colour coding, it's just me trying to keep track of who is new and who is graduated, this is also why Roderick isn't in this, becasue in my fic he hasn't transfered yet (this is the year between S5a & 6) and Jane hasn't started highschool so that's why she's not on it) and I'll explain them (mostly S2 NDs) under the cut (my reddit comment amended, basically) 💛

I know I missed Blaine but... he's not in my fic as a ND member at all so i didn't give him a birthday just yet because i haven't needed to.

Puck: Aug 17th 1993 I choose Mark's actual birthday because Glee did that with Kurt so why not the other characters. - I see Puck as being the second oldest after Kurt, just based on vibes, so Mark's birthday fit here.

Rachel: Dec 18th 1994 This is her canon birthday. this means she turns 16 in S2 which makes her the youngest of her year group. I've headcanoned that she skipped a grade, or maybe her dad's started her in school a year earlier than everyone else because, well, it's Rachel.

Santana: Jan 12th 1994 Basically I used Naya's birthday. I know this messes up Finn's 'canon' birthday but bare with me.

Finn: Jan 15th 1994 I didn't use Finn's canon birthday because in S4 Sue says he's 19, like a lot, and I also couldn't find it anywhere but the Fandom Wiki. So his canon birthday doesn't work. Finn dies at 19 and if his birthday was the canon one of Aug 24th 1994 he wouldn't have been 19 when he died but 18. So I changed it and used Naya's birthday and what was said during S1's madona episode that Finn was 3 days younger to come up with Jan 15th.

Quinn: Feb 1st 1994 Basically I just looked up her birthday and there was a random thread on Fandom Wiki that stated this was her birthday so I rolled with it because it works with the timeline.

Britt: March 14th 1994 It's what it says on Fandom Wiki, but I don't remember it ever being said in canon. However it's also Pi day (3.14) so that's fun for the 'math genius'

Tina: Mar 28th 1995 A year younger than the others as she graduates S4 not S3. I was going to go with Jenna's birthday just because but apparently her and Harry (Mike) share the same birthday! So I had Mike have April 28th and moved Tina's up a month

Mike: Apr 28th 1994 See above I guess. It's Harry's birthday so I rolled with it. graduates S3

Sam: May 6th 1995 A year younger because he graduates S4. It's said in the prom episode that his birthday was a week before so I looked up when American's have prom (I'm english) and yeah. this was what I decided??? I can't remember why exactly I chose that date but I'm sticking with it because I can't change it in my fic now without messing stuff up. I maybe would change it to a week earlier so at the end of April.

Kurt: May 27th 1993 This is canon and makes Kurt the oldest in the club which is fun since Chris is the youngest of the main cast and it's also Chris's Birthday take away 3 years. My headcanon is that his mum and dad kept him back a year before starting school because he was so small or something OR that he missed too much school when his mom died and had to retake a year. I'm leaning towards the latter because that's a sadder backstory.

Artie: Jun 14th 1995 A year younger than everyone. again, I used the actor's birthday because I'm lazy and it fit.

Mercedes: Jul 10th 1994 I just see Mercedes having a summer birthday for some reason. IDK? literally just picked my mom's birthday.

Here's the S3&4 newbies too, but it's mostly either random or the actor's birthday.

Unique: Aug 20th 1995 so she's in the year below Sam/Tina/Artie in my headcanon which is why she's not still at McKinley or highschool in S6. Alex's Newell's birthday.

Ryder: Sep 14th 1996 A year younger than Unique. A Sophomore in S4 (I think that may be said somewhere? or at least implied?) He could be a Freshman too, so 1997 or stick with '96 and have him kept back a year because of his dyslexia, but I decided against that in my story. Just a random date I picked because I didn't have anyone else in September.

Marley: Oct 4th 1996 Also a Sophomore in S4. (again I think that's said?) Melissa's birthday

Jake: Oct 17th 1997 Freshman in S4. Honestly, it's simply because Puck doesn't know him and if he was a Freshman in S3 than Puck would have maybe interacted with him? or at least known there was another Puckerman in the school and I don't think it's said anywhere that he's transfered or anything. so hence, a freshman... Jacob Artist's birthday.

Joe: Nov 12th 1994 completely random. In my head canon he's in the same year as Sam/Tina/Artie

Sugar: Feb 14th 1996 A year younger than Sam/Tina/Artie. I also just like the idea of her birthday being on Valentine's day, it kinda makes the whole Sugar Shack thing kinda sad in a 'noone would come if it was just for my birthday but! Valentines!!' way

Kitty: Feb 22 1997 Young enough to come back in S6 as a Senior (don't get me started on the confusion of that timeline) Random date.

I also headcanon the McCarthy twins as around late-1998/1999 (I picked 23rd May because Twins and Gemini! Only one based on astrology!) and in their sophomore year in S6. Same with Spencer

Rodderick ~ 1997 ish. I believe it's stated that he's a senior in S6? Same with Alistair??

Jane's a Freshman in S6 so a late-1999/2000 birthday.

and Myron is around November 2001 ish because he turns 13 in roughly November 2014... i think... again S6 timeline is insane.

Mustang sally - OMG Roderick’s voice is amazing. He has a sound that no one else in Glee club before him has ever had. Perfect audition song for him. I love Hummelberry’s facial expressions and the Holy Trinity.

My man - Ok so I don’t like Rachel’s voice a lot of the time but whenever she goes to her roots and sings broadway it’s always amazing. She blows it out of the park and deserves all the praise. She is definitely a great Fanny Brice.

Not the boy next door - ICONIC. Those pants, the range in his voice. Really great song for Kurt. He is also someone who should sing broadway more often (he’s destined for it no matter how hard it may be for him to get gigs). The whole NYADA storyline for him was a slap in the face but this audition stands as one of his best solos.

Being alive - ok you don’t often see Kurt do a park and bark (the other one off the top of my head is I have nothing.) He really really delivers with this song and idk how Chris finds the emotion to pull this stuff off. Rachel’s a emotional performer but it always leans towards fake but this just seems so real and raw. He pulled all his emotions from being in New York and loosing Blaine and loosing the supportive family environment of the Hudson-Hummels into this song.

And I’m telling you I’m not going - ok, so a fully live performance. Spine chilling. Mercedes has superior belting power and vocals.

Spotlight - a softer side to Mercedes. She starts taking no shit in season 3. I am here for her not taking a backseat to Rachel no more.

Blow me (one last kiss) - I love me a Marely and Unique duet. Their friendship is great and it’s just starting with this duet. It murders!

Home - the creepy incest twins have great voices. I love the set out of this song and how it tells a narrative story at the same time.

New York state of mind - introduction to Marely, introduction to Brochel. They both slap and Marely definitely gives the best audition song (one time I agree with Schue)

Some people - ok, love Kurt’s outfit. Bringing back the Gypsy musical. He has fun with the choreography. The song has a weird beat but it does work for Kurt.

I don't think it's unreasonable to only like Glee because one character (sans Santana).

Nobody likes Glee enough to be a a somewhat active Glee blog on tumblr in the year of our lord, 2022. And because Glee is mostly terrible and every single character sucks in one way or another it's perfectly sensible to only connect to one niche character.

In fact, dare I say that the reason Glee maintained its popularity for three long seasons was seventy percent due to its cast and the chemistry they had with each other. The Glee actors made their character bearable. Case in point, the most blobroed characters were played by the strongest actors (Santana, Quinn, Kurt, Blaine, Rachel). I can confidently say that the Glee fandom invented the real-life shipping phenomena.

The Glee fandom, in particular the Tumblr Glee fandom, is built upon liking character enough to become an unpaid intern for this godawful show (affectionate). And just like you, I'm as invested as I am with Glee because of my beloved Santana.

Yeah I mean, I don’t think it’s unreasonable either Anon lol but I appreciate the reinforcement.

It’s a point of fascination for me how Glee doesn’t seem like it ever had a unified fandom and because of the enormous cast and different tones and storylines it tried to juggle, it was always different subsections. And you know I do feel the need to sort of defend Glee every now and then because despite its messiness, I don’t think it’s a bad show. I even get defensive, mostly when non-Gleeks shit on it because its ups were very high and it had such an impact. It was also absolutely hilarious so often and showcased such talent; did it do that in the ebts possible way, no, but it did on ocassion do things right.

All that to say that I think, even sans Santana, Glee’s fun and has such an appeal. And to be clear I love other characters as well, I’d just say I love them a normal amount. Like, you know, I’ll write novel-lenght posts about Quinn and Kitty too and get overwhelmed by my love for Brittany and Mercedes but I consider that to be regular fandom stuff. I connect to them too. My love for Santana just happens to be so intense it would be, and is, enough to singlehandedly maintain my continued interest in the series. You know I just point that out along with everything in the previous paragraph because, as much as we fans also shit on it, Glee does have merits. The lows tend to be really, really low, but it credit where credit is due it had so many interesting characters and stories and did get some things right. I just don’t want us to forget that even as we rightfully clown on it.

And I do have to note re: the most blorboed characters that the actors might be some of the strongest but the characters themselves also had the most storylines/the most emotionally resonant ones. Almost all of these characters had much to do and were very central from the beginning so far be it from me to take away from, for example, Dianna Agron's performance, it's not like she had Tina or Mercedes levels of plotlines even as a guest star and even as the show seemed to actively hate Quinn. It seems to me like a positive feedback type of situation. The main exception being Santana, whose initial role was very limited and it thanks to Naya Rivera that that role was expanded and she became a fan favourite. Not so coincidentally, this is part of why Santana's my blorbo. Arguably Blaine was a similar case but ultimately vastly different from how small a role Santana originally was. And all of this is just to say that characters like Artie, Tina, and even Mercedes never really stood a chance if being blorbos like the rest of them, not on the same scale. Mercedes, who’s widely beloved (nowadays) including by moi, simply did not get enough focus in the story to be as talked about, so I really just wanted note that re: the actors.

As for real-life shipping, well then yikes for that lmao. I mean hey, Glee’s popularity and legacy are both beasts but real-life shipping and the intensity of the fandom in general... big Yikes. And you know now I’m starting to feel bad for taking this ask so seriously even though it’s just a message of solidarity re: a previous post of mine lol, but you also made me ponder on this fragmented nature of the Glee fandom some more and I sort of lament it. I make it no secret that Santana IS The Bitch for me and most of what I actually contribute to this fandom has to do with her, and I love to see other people do the same for her or other characters. But I’ve experienced it with other, awfully entitled and generally warped-sense-of-reality anons how this fragmentation can be taken to an extreme. I’m talking automatically categorizing fans based on their fave ships and characters, assigning to them certain things based on that and this general perception in the fandom.That... is less fun. And it’s not an issue unique to Glee but it’s an issue nonetheless. So I’d like to keep the duality of “yes I think Santana is hands down The Best part of Glee” and “Glee as a whole is fascinating with so much to discuss.” But you I am with you, I too am here for our beloved Santana first and foremost, but... yeah. Glee’s also just in general good, actually. Well, maybe not good. Interesting? Worth taking about even 7 years later? Worth crediting? Yeah.
