WW Normal Album Analysis (pt. 3) 💜

WHOOP-DEE-DOO! HERE WE GO AGAIN!

More Will Wood analysis, part whatever?!!! (cos I still cannot get over my WW/WWATTW hyperfixation)

If you saw my last couple of posts, you know the drill, you know what I'm babbling about.

For those of you who haven't seen my last posts or have no clue what Im talking about/getting into, for the sake of not sounding repetitive and/or annoying; Please just go check out my previous posts. I apologize, but I don't want these posts to become monotonous with the disclaimers, so I just gently encourage you to take a look at the first 2 parts of my WW analysis if you want full context. (This post isnt reallh connected to my previously stated theories to the album's message as a whole, but if you're curious enough, go look for yourself. Respectfully, I do not want to type more than I have to.)

So with that out of the way, in this post, like my most previous one, I really wanna talk about one song specifically, what it means to me, and how the lyrics + choices of words make up the message, and that song is; I/Me/Myself

I'm sure like a lot of other people did, I initially thought the song was fully about being trans when I first listened. But after my first couple of listens and really looking into the lyrics, I figured that couldn't be right. So, I looked it up and surely enough, WW himself explained the broader scope of the song and what it really meant.

(Ik a lot of WW fans probably knew/know this already, but I'm still gonna bring it up anyway) Will said himself regarding the song;

"To boil it down, the song is about how I respond to my frustration with the limitations of the male gender role, the maladaptive ways I’ve coped with that frustration, and trying to figure out if this experience or any other regarding my gender can or should define me. It reaches the same conclusion that most of my work does – and that is that nothing is real and that if something is hurting us we have the power to cast it off." "This song is, as I’ve said, about my experiences with my gender identity. It’s none of your business, but I once identified as genderqueer, until I realized that my attraction to traditionally feminine things did not interfere with my identity as a man. I didn’t want to define non-binary with my good old-fashioned cross-dressing, because I don’t want to speak for anyone else. I came to realize that my refusal and/or failure to meet the behavioral standards of my gender role did not make me less of a man, and anyone (cis or trans) who tells me that wearing makeup now and again makes me less of a man can shove it. After struggling for some time, I realized that my genderqueer identity wasn’t necessary for me, that I was wearing it as a prop in order to serve a purpose. The song is about my experiences and any amount of satire or targeted poking fun it does is at people who are doing what I know I did at the time. Partially in the hopes of drawing people away from that toxicity like I wish something had for me at the time."

The song is essentially a statement telling both cis and trans people that our actions and expressions dont define who we are and that you can act and do things a certain way without having to fit into a box or slap a label on yourself. You can still be one thing and do other things that dont align with it, and the song does a great job at expressing the frustrations of feeling like there's external pressure on both sides to behave in a specific way just because of how you define yourself (at least that's how I interpreted his explaination and I 100% agree with what he's saying.)

While the meaning might have been self-explainatory to most, I still wanna gush about the lyrics/choice of words that make up said meaning.

• "And now you've got me thinking, I wish I could be a girl, and that way - You'd wish I could be your girlfriend, boyfriend"

"You've got me thinking" "You".....the way he says, "you've got me thinking," and not, "I am thinking," only emphasizes that extremists or other people that overly care about their identity and/or label are pressuring him into feeling like he has to be x, y, z because of how he chooses to dress, behave, etc. as a cis man. The choice of language really astounds me and just goes to show that he really did wear his identity "as a prop" only to fulfill a purpose that focused more on other people's contentedness, rather than his own.

• "But if the shoe fits, then I won't try it on"

This lyric right possesses some of the best symbolism I have ever seen. This line from the song shows how he so quickly jumped to the conclusion that he must be genderqueer because of the pressure he might have felt seeing how other people's behavior fit that exact label. If other people have that label for themselves and behaved like me before coming out/realizing their identity, then surely I'm queer too? If the shoe fits everyone else with similar foot dimensions as me, why should I try it on? If it fits for other people, surely it must fit me. It says its my size on the box, so surely that means it will fit comfortably?

(I'm gonna rope in a lyric from the demo version of I/Me/Myself cos I think this part from this version of the song also plays into the message.)

• "I'll be your prosthetic meat/meet your anesthetic criteria"

Again (this may sound repetitive) like the aforementioned lyrics, WW stating he'll be (assuming this is what the "your" in this lyric is relating to) anyone's piece of "prosthetic meat" and (presumably) willing to do anything in order to "meet criteria," just further emphasizes that he cared far too much what people wanted for him, rather than what he actually wanted for himself, and also highlights the sheer desperation someone with this sort of mindset possesses. It doesn't matter how you get it or what lengths you go to, just as long as you recieve outside approval and have managed to people please.

• "No, I know that I'm wrong - But I love how you're on my side when I cross that line"

This lyric here showcases his knowledge that he knows this label or identity may not be right for him, but people are on his side anyway, no matter what, and in the perspective of somebody who thinks like this, that is more important than being happy with yourself and finding your own identity. Instead of trying to steer him in a healthy direction, these supposed "people" are just trying to push their beliefs or continue to force him to be something he isn't sure he's happy with, because they believe its right (which sadly happens more in the LGBTQ+ community than you'd expect.) Also, the crossing of the line mentioned can also be alluding to folks who transition because of community pressure, misguidance, or subconscious uncertainty clouded by agenda pushing, end up regretting it later. They cross that extreme line, and yet those same people still push their beliefs and ideas on the person, hence; "being on his side".

There's so much more I want to talk about here and tie into the post, but I think my point stands. That's mostly what I feel like typing at the moment, and I am now very tired lol.

And please, do not attack or harrass me for being "transphobic". There are toxic people in every community and my intention in this post was to point out genuinely toxic people in the queer community and how it ties into the song's message. As someone who used to identify as FTM trans and got mixed in with the wrong groups myself, this song speaks deeply to my own experiences, and never would I ever encourage or preach hate towards certain kinds of queer people and contradict my whole point here; let people be themselves and don't ever force someone to be somebody they are not. Love and accept and stop fighting fire with fire.

Once again, I still think WW is a lyrical genius and his portrayal of messages is extremely well executed. I hope you all enjoyed more brainrot fueled ranting, haha! ❤️ This was very fun to type and talk about. Have a merry turkey day, y'all, and I'll try to keep posting more WW analysis. hello. im back because im on my playlist kick and found yet another older rezero playlist of mine and then fixed it up. im very normal about amnesiabaru and gluttony if (lying through my teeth) :3

anyway. this is also in narrative order from roughly the start of the amnesiabaru arc all the way to roughly the start of gluttony if. ever wanted to have a music playlist about the transition from amnesiabaru to gluttonybaru? now you got it 👍

the three songs with jp titles are called (in order of appearance on the playlist) "donut hole", "patchwork staccato", and "nonsense speaker" in english. i highly recommend reading the english translated lyrics for these (the nonsense speaker cover i used IS in english though on this playlist) if you arent a jp speaker bc theyre very good songs and i think they fit. plus ive actually seen patchwork staccato used for gluttony if animatics haah (and. you know. the Title is very. very good.)

a lot of the songs i chose have very nice references to gluttony if related things... not just in song title either haah and a lot of these song choices were me half-joking but like. ok i had a jekyll and hyde phase and im still quite fond of that story ok. i can use as many jekyll and hyde songs as i like. and i think its really funny using them for a gluttony if playlist 😭 tokyo ghoul and frankenstein songs too... THEY FIT THOUGH I PROMISE. and "people watching".... yeah subarus about to do some people watching alright. i am probably so foul for these song choices but i stand by it 😭

i used donut hole as the intro song for Reasons (see the lyrics) and also rabbit heart by florence bc. ok i know i keep using florence songs but hear me out. rabbit heart on this playlist represents amnesiabaru popping into existence and being happy with being isekaied (he is about to get his shit rocked)

world has gone insane: ngl this song slaps so hard i dont care what anyone else says. it changed my brain chemistry hearing it years ago. its very good. i highly recommend this song over all other songs on this list. and also this song in this playlist marks amnesiabaru officially dying and getting his shit rocked <3 the world HAS gone insane!!

thank you for the ask!! Bc this ended being way longer than I thought it would be, I’m only going to be focusing on one playlist here, but I will write up similar post for most of my other playlists as well. Today we will be focusing on my Glenn Close playlist.

Analysis under the cut

Carry on my wayward son: this might be one of the simplest to explain, and its because the cast themselves have joked and talked about how this song fits glenn, even going so far as to make the title to one of the most important glenn centric episodes. It has to be on there imo.

Highway to hell: this one is also simple to explain, glenn became a demon and went through his owm highway to hell, as it were. It also fits into his dad rock theme, as does carry on my wayward son.

I miss having sex but at least i dont want to die anymore: i dont have a real reason for this one honestly, i think i heard this song on a random playlist and it made me think of glenn? I think theres a version of glenn in my head that lives as a human and goes back to the human realm as normal with the other dads and this would be from his pov after he grows and gets older and does some healing i guess?? It doesn’t make a lot of sense ik.

Anna sun: this is one of the songs most closely (heh) associated with glenn in my head. This song makes me think of young glenn, fresh after morgan died, being left with a 7 y/o Nick and no idea how to cope with either of their grief. The chorus of “this house is falling apart” sung with more and more intensity makes me envision a scene where its young glenn, standing in a small, lonely apartment holding a tiny nick in his arms as he looks around, no idea what to do without his wife and best friend here to help him. The lyrics “we got no money, but we got heart” make me think of glenn, failing rockstar, determined to make a way for himself and for his son.

Sickly sweet holidays: i found this one on another glenn playlist, and the christmas theme was perfect, but also, the lyrics “im crying every day, i wish that you were here, when christmas comes this time each year” are so heartbreaking applied to him and morgan if its him singing that after shes gone.

Last christmas: it fit the christmas theme and i just liked the jimmy eat world version lmao.

Home: this song. just breaks me. The pain and the heartbreak and the tragedy of losing someone you care so deeply about just is glenn with morgan. The lyrics “and i got mad when they said that you weren't coming back to me, cause i hate hearing the truth” are crushing in this case especially because glenn does hate hearing the truth. He’s the type of person who avoids his problems until they slap him in the face. He does that with his grief, doesnt acknowledge his or his son’s pain, and it isnt good for him. For either of them.

Ghost of york: this song is on the playlist solely because it slaps and because of the lyrics “and from the corner of my eye/i saw you dressed all in white/i saw you pass right by/maybe i had too much wine/you never said goodbye” for me, this song speaks to a sad, depressed glenn mourning his wife and drowning his pain with drink, wishing he just had the chance to say goodbye one more time.

Afraid: “when i wake i'm afraid somebody else might take my place” i mean, this literally happened with him and jodie. The chorus is glenn talking shit about jodie. “It hurts but i wont fight you” is glenn accepting jodie as Nick’s new father.

Pope is a rockstar: i dont care i dont care if the lyrics are ‘pope is a rockstar’ Glenn sang ‘go little rockstar’ to nick when he was young and you can't change my mind.

Never love an anchor: oooohh boy. Oh boy. Pain. let's go. With the first lyrics alone “on some level i think i always understood/that these hands of mine were clumsy not clever/and i tried to do the best that i could/ but try as i might i could not bring myself to hold you” this is a very glenn song. Glenn Close was not meant to be a father, no matter how much he loved his son. In fact, with the next set of lyrics we’ll be looking at “a ship could never really love an anchor/so i did the only thing that i could/and severed the rope that set you sailing from my harbor” they can be tied directly to him making the choice to let nick go at the trial. “There are times when i still wonder about you/you are someone i have loved but never known” glenn still loves nick, but that's not the same nick he raised. He is someone glenn has loved, but never truly known after the swap with jodie. “You’ll never see the reasons i had/for keeping my claws away when they were close enough to hurt you” nick will never really know the choice, the sacrifice glenn made when he called for the switch. He will never know the pain glenn saved him from losing two parents. “I am selfish i am broken i am cruel” represents all of glenns self hatred and negativity. I think at certain points pf the podcast he genuinely believes all of those things about himself. “I am all the things they might have said to you” is glenn being terrified nick will end up exactly like him and so deeply hoping he doesn't.

The light behind your eyes: this song is from glenn’s pov in prison. “If i could be with you tonight/i would sing you to sleep/never let them take the light behind your eyes” the idea of him being able to get out and sing this for his friends around a campfire, or sing this softly to his son one last time keeps him going. “I failed and lost this fight/never fade in the dark/just remember you will always burn as bright” is glenn literally losing the court case and getting sentenced to the prison, he is the one fading in the dark, and the only thing keeping him going is the memory, the brightness, of his friends and of his son. I also think glenn sang this to nick as a lullaby when he was a little kid.

Death as a fetish: this song also represents glenns incredibly negative internal voice. The repetition of “i will never be good enough” is all of his internal thoughts that he will never open up about or share with anyone.

Ok so, once when I was younger my great grandmother was sick and completly forgot her mother died and my grandma had to explain it to her. so i was wondering if you could do something small with Shayne and charlie eventually. No pressue, get sleep, and drink... something. (i dont like water)🌚

Charlie’s cheeks ached, either from sting of the alcohol, or from the copious amounts of smiling he’d been doing since the evening had taken off. When they were both drinking, it turned out that he and Felix had a lot in common; and when they were both drinking, Charlie found it considerably easier to let go of his reservations about Elliott; and when Shayne was drinking, Charlie got to see him actually relax for the first time in ages, which only amplified Charlie’s good mood even further.

Plus, Charlie had never been taken to a karaoke booth before. It was like all of the buzz of a night club, packed into a room smaller than a typical living room.

Once he’d realised that the microphone – or the speakers, or the computer that linked it all together, or whatever – made his voice sound so much better than it usually did, Charlie had really gone for it.

His throat had given out partway through the last song, though, and he’d sat down to take a sip of his drink, but when he’d realised that Shayne hadn’t noticed and had continued to sing all by himself, Charlie hadn’t been able to resist sitting back and just watching.

Since Shayne hadn’t listened to a lot of music in his teens, it’d taken a while for Charlie to pin down a handful of songs that they could both sing. As it turned out, they’d both listened to Avril Lavigne’s early stuff; apparently Shayne’s mum had been a fan of hers.

Only now that he was sitting down and reading the song lyrics quietly as he listened to Shayne did Charlie realised that Shayne wasn’t even looking at the lyrics. His eyes were barely open, his expression was deadly serious, and he was just making… noises that sounded vaguely like the correct lyrics, all whilst making no sense.

Shayne’s eyes drifted over Charlie’s and he blinked, realising how intensely Charlie was staring at him. Charlie gulped over a laugh and slapped a hand over his mouth, but the damage was done.

“What?” Shayne whined.

“Lovely, you’re not – you’re not –” Charlie doubled over, choking on a mixture of words and laughter. He gasped for breath before straightening up, pointing wildly towards the mounted screens on the walls. “You’re not singing the words! The words are up there, look!”

Shayne did look; he blinked and parted his lips, but then turned back to Charlie. “I am singin’ th’words.”

“No, you’re not, you’re –” Charlie shook his head. He was dangerously close to vomiting or releasing some other bodily fluids if he didn’t get this laughing fit under control. The song was ending anyway.

“Charlie,” Shayne said loudly into the microphone. The song was ending now anyway, instrumentals fading out.

“Yeah,” Charlie laughed. “What?”

“You.”

Dark brown eyes pinned him with a very serious look. Charlie’s heart stuttered down into his belly like it’d just been pushed down some stairs, before springing back up to hit him in the back of the throat.

“You’re my best friend, Charlie.”

Charlie gave what he hoped was the smile of a charming boyfriend, and not the smile of a drunken simp. “I am?”

“My best friend… who I want t’kiss,” Shayne mumbled, his voice still amplified by the microphone. He glanced briefly at Elliott and Felix, narrowing his eyes as though daring either of them to say anything. He looked at Charlie again. “With tongues.”

“You want to kiss me with tongues?”

“Yeah. But not – not right now,” Shayne quickly clarified. He lifted the microphone away from his mouth, as though he’d only just remembered it was there, and leaned a little closer to Charlie before speaking normally. “Not right now. I feel all… swirly.”

“Swirly?”

“Mmhmm.”

“Aw. Well, one mustn’t kiss with tongues when one is swirly, so…” Tingling all over, Charlie scooped Shayne into his arms and drew in the smell of him, exhaling shakily and blinking back euphoric tears from laughing so hard. “My poor baby. You want to go outside for some air? It’s hot in here.”

“Mm-mm.” Shayne shook his head, reaching out a hand to feel for the seat as he lowered himself to it. His fingers drifted down through Charlie’s as they parted. “'M'good. Just need a break.”

“Okay,” Charlie said. He ran his hand gently over Shayne’s hair as he laid his head down on the table in the centre of the seating area. He didn’t really want to force Shayne to go anywhere with him, even if a few minutes of fresh air would probably have done him good.

Elliott and Felix were readying up to perform the next song, and Charlie waved his hand to get their attention. “I’m going to the bathroom, and then I’ll probably get some air.”

Felix threw him a thumbs-up, just as the first few bars of Africa began to flow through the speakers.

Charlie went to the bathroom, then stepped outside the building. The streets were relatively quiet for a Saturday night, since everybody was either already home or already holed up in a pub or other venue. He loved the city, and let his eyes fall shut as he soaked up all of the subtle sounds; taxis pulling up at traffic lights, the chatter and music from inside a pub as someone opened and closed its doors, a faraway car horn.

Cities always sounded so alive.

"Whoa," Charlie muttered, opening his eyes and staggering his feet as he felt himself start to sway.

Shit.

This was the part of being drunk that he didn’t like. That tipping point, where the giddiness was beginning to wear off, where he knew that if he didn’t get another drink down his throat soon, he’d end up nauseous and irritable. Maybe the fresh air hadn’t been a good idea at all. His eyes immediately felt like they were drying out, and he could barely stand the breeze for longer than a few minutes before he felt like he had to go to the bathroom again.

Stupid broken seal, he thought to himself as he went back inside.

When he came back out of the bathroom into the lobby area, he spotted Felix looking around a little frantically, hovering by the exit. His eyes lit up when he saw Charlie, but not in a good way.

“There you are, bud.”

The remainder of Charlie’s buzz fizzled out as he dissected the look on Felix’s face. The boy looked like he’d burst into tears if someone so much as poked him in the ribs.

“Is everything okay?”

“I was looking for you, I…” Felix shook his head. “You need to come back to the room.”

The song was paused halfway through, words frozen to the screen, and the lights had been fully switched on. All of the magical chaos was gone, leaving just the seating with a cheap-looking leather finish, and a table covered in glasses of melting ice. Shayne was right where Charlie had left him, but he’d sat up with his elbows on his knees and buried his face in his hands.

Elliott still sat at the adjacent side of the table, hands awkwardly pushed into his pockets, and Charlie wondered if it was relief that flickered across his face when he and Felix walked back in.

“He’s…” Felix shook his head.

“Hey,” Charlie whispered in Shayne’s direction. He glanced around for any signs of a clue. “What happened?”

At the sound of Charlie’s voice, Shayne lifted his head slightly. His eyes were glistening. He wasn’t crying yet, but there was a disturbing wobble in his voice that made Charlie almost wish that he was crying instead. “Th-they won’t – they won’t – they won’t listen to me –”

“Shayne,” Felix croaked, covering his mouth and turning away. He practically scurried past Charlie, rushing to get to Elliott’s side and slip himself under his arm.

An ache sprouted in Charlie’s chest. He swallowed over the doubt and sat next to Shayne, offering him a hand in case he wanted to hold it. “I’ll… I’ll listen to you, lovely. I promise I’ll listen. Tell me what’s up.”

Shayne’s shoulders trembled and he seemed to jerk forward with each attempted breath, as though he was trying to cough up something dry and scratchy. After a series of low whimpers, he started to form words.

“I just – I-I want – I just want my – my mum, I want my mum to come and get me, and they won’t – they won’t…” He pressed his lips together and winced. “They’re talking shit, Charlie, they’re saying she can’t come because she’s dead.”

Charlie looked up. Felix was still covering his mouth and shaking his head. Elliott simply raised his eyebrows, as if to say, ‘See what we’re dealing with?’

“I’ve got this, you guys. Thank you.”

Elliott jumped at Charlie's cue, and poked at Felix's leg. “Come on, Fee. There’s a chipper next door.”

“Okay.”

Charlie forced a smile - god, his eyes were almost watering from the pains in his cheeks by now - and waited for the two of them to scoot out from behind the table and leave. Once the door closed, he slid a little closer to Shayne, so that their hips were pressed together. He turned a hand over and held it close to Shayne's knee, right in his line of sight. His palm hovered, empty, for about ten seconds before Shayne sniffled, rubbed his eye on the back of his hand, and finally slipped his fingers between Charlie's.

“Hey..." Charlie swallowed thickly. Why? Why did he have to be so drunk for this? He did not feel equipped. "You... you know that you’re safe, don’t you?”

“Mmm…”

Charlie licked his lips to wet them. “And you know who I am?”

“You’re Charlie…” Shayne half-laughed, half-sobbed.

Charlie shook his head at himself. Ask a stupid question -

“Y-you... you’re the best person I fucking know. You’re th-the – the one who make – makes – makes everything feel like sun-sunshine.”

If he hadn’t felt as though his heart was about to break for Shayne, Charlie might have chuckled at that and cuddled him. Instead, he checked that he had a firm, yet not dominating, hold on his hand.

“So, then, you know I love you, and that I’m here to take care of you?”

He nodded silently, his eyes flitting back and forth between Charlie’s face and the ground. Tears were slowly starting to run down his cheeks. “Always are.”

“Right,” Charlie said, injecting a shot of praise to his tone, almost like he was talking to a child. “So, if you know all of that, then… you must remember that your mum, she’s… She’s really not here.”

Shayne blinked.

“She died when you were little.”

Shayne shook his head. “No.”

“Yes, lovely.”

“No, but – but what if – what if they only wanted me to think that?” Shayne choked out. His voice was disturbingly clear all of a sudden, as though he’d sobered up but still couldn’t draw his thoughts all the way back to reality. “What if it was all a lie, and she’s really… She and my dad are...?”

As his words trailed off into a question mark, his eyes questioningly met Charlie’s again.

“Shayne,” Charlie whispered. “I wish I could say that was true…”

“Jesus fucking Christ. What the fuck’s wrong with me? Why am I such a mess?”

“Oh,” Charlie deadpanned, his heart sinking a bit. “Oh, Shayne, if you think this is messy, I’m very worried for if you ever see me at my worst.”

Shayne blinked. That seemed to slow him down a considerable amount, until Charlie patted his back and nodded, to remind him that he had been saying something.

“I… hate this,” he whispered, folding his arms and pulling them towards his stomach. “I hate being sad. I-I don’t – I don’t even know what happened, I don’t know why I was thinking about them so much. Maybe it was the music – or – I don’t know.”

“You’re allowed to miss your parents,” Charlie said. He wouldn’t allow himself to dwell on it for too long, but he knew in his gut that if anything happened to either Trevor or Ingrid, he’d have a hard time not thinking about it every second of every day for the rest of his life. “You don’t need a reason or an excuse.”

Shayne nodded absently.

“I wish I could bring them back for you. For us. I wish I could meet them. I’d thank the shit out of them, for making you.” Charlie laughed at the impatient glare that earned him. “I’m serious.”

“You’re drunk.”

“Two things are allowed to be true.”

Shayne groaned in resignation. When he looked at Charlie’s face, he seemed somewhat more coherent than the last time. Charlie tilted his head and let a little smile tug at his mouth.

“Can I give you a kiss?” Charlie asked softly. “I promise I won’t slip you the tongue. I know you’re swirly.”

Shayne blinked slowly, like he was too tired - or too drunk - to even roll his eyes. He did, however, move in to give Charlie a light peck on the lips, then a second one which was reciprocated. Then he leaned into Charlie’s torso, propping his forehead against his shoulder and letting his arms tighten around Charlie’s back.

“I’ve got you,” Charlie whispered. “I’m also... very drunk, but I’ve got you.”

Charlie lifted his head as he sensed the door opening, and Shayne pulled back from him, swiping at his eyes. Charlie smiled; it was kind of sweet that he still cared about Felix and Elliott seeing him cry, even though they’d been around when he’d started asking for his mum.

Felix peeked his head around the door before he wandered in, hugging a large paper bag against his chest like it was a cat. Elliott followed him, lips pursed to one side as his eyes landed on Shayne.

“Hey,” Charlie said. He slipped his hands between his knees, unsure of why he was feeling so self-conscious.

“Hey. We brought food,” Felix announced in a tentative voice, laying the paper bag down on the table.

“And, more importantly, water.”

“Oh. Thank you,” Charlie said as Elliott placed a tall bottle of mineral water in his hand.

“Everything okay?” Elliott asked. His tone was stiff, but Charlie could tell he was probably just worried about his cousin.

“Yeah. It’s okay.” He looked at Shayne and smiled. “Yeah?”

Shayne nodded. “Yeah. Sorry.”

“It’s alright, man. Relax. Eat something.”

“Yes,” Charlie agreed. He realised he didn’t actually know how much Shayne had eaten that day, and part of him didn’t really want to know. “That is a great idea.”

“Charlie,” Felix said softly as he began to undo the scrunched-up top of the bag, “we didn’t know what you liked, so we got you guys a nuggets and chips meal.”

“Oh, my god, thank you,” Charlie said again. He couldn’t fight the doe-eyed look he gave Felix as he pulled out a smaller paper bag and slid it across the table. “Chicken nuggets are literally my go-to drunk food.”

“Good! You’re welcome.” Felix smiled at him before busying himself with unwrapping his own food. Elliott slinked down on a seat, throwing one leg widely over the other, before snatching up the tablet to scroll through the songs.

“I’m going to put something on,” Elliott murmured, “purely so that I don’t have to listen to you lot chewing.”

Charlie reckoned that was fair, since Elliott was the only one who didn’t require nourishment in the form of actual food. He felt a little bad for him, but not bad enough to stop himself from ripping open his and Shayne’s bag so that the food sat scattered across the paper wrapper.

Halfway through the second song that Elliott had queued up – Highway to Hell, to be specific – Felix began to sing along through mouthfuls of food, forgoing the microphone. Elliott seemed to be mouthing along with him, their attention fixed on each other.

Whether it was purely because he was drunk, or because he knew the others weren’t paying attention to him, Shayne ate almost half of the chips in the bag. He drank a decent amount of water too, before he sat back and rested his head on Charlie’s shoulder.

Charlie was in the middle of chewing a chicken nugget, and quickly placed a hand in front of his mouth before speaking. “You good?”

Shayne nodded and mumbled something in the affirmative before covering his mouth with his fist and turning his head the other away. Either the music was too loud, or the belch was too low for Charlie to hear, but it still made him stop mid-chew, torn between concern and affection.

He reached over to rub Shayne’s back with one hand, tilting his head slightly as Shayne looked at him again.

“Sorry.”

“It’s okay.” Charlie glanced towards the remnants of their food. He picked up another chicken nugget. “I’ve never seen you eat that fast. Probably a shock to your system. Are you sure you’re good?”

“Yeah.” Shayne settled his cheek against Charlie’s shoulder again. “Thanks, Charlie. I feel a bit better now.”

Charlie broke into a grin as he chewed. He snaked one arm up and around Shayne’s back, craving the feeling of his soft hair between his fingers. “Are you sure I made you feel better? And you sure it’s not because your tummy is no longer swimming in vodka and coke?”

Shayne hummed and melted into the head rubs. “Could’ve somethin’ to do with it, yeah.”

“I’m going to say it probably does.”

“Maybe.”

“Definitely does.”

“Mmm. Shut up, Charlie. Two things can be true.”

OOOOOOOOO of course! Idt I've ever talked about AWM on this blog but whatever I subject people here to just about anything

gosh....the first and most obvious influence is the fact that the bar fight i wrote marisol getting into was directly a result of listening to vampire money too many times when I was in an AWM mood. pick a fight at an airport bar! and i was like. I think marisol needs to pick a barfight RIGHT now. it fit well anyway and was something I needed to show off some aspects of her character and it just felt like it worked well with the themes and narrative so I slapped it in there. thank you vampire money <3

a lot of the influence comes from pure vibes and also part coincidence in that I can't tell if I was subconsciously soaking up some danger days vibes and bleeding them into the story or if i wrote up the story and then had a danger days revival and realized all the similarities. it was honestly probably a feedback loop - AWM already had danger days vibes about it, I added a bunch of danger days songs to the playlist and listened to them a lot, wrote a lot more and got influenced by it, cycle repeats. and I think it was really good for me creatively!

a lot of danger days influence is on marisol specifically since the album sort of has a...how would i word it. vehicle oriented lyric style in a lot of cases. and she's a podracer and has a motorbike so it just ends up fitting well LOL i cant slow down i wont be waiting for you! i feel like listening to the album helped me flesh out her character a lot....the songs just help me see visions for her that i might otherwise not have!

bulletproof heart especially to me is suuuuch an AWM song it fits so so so well. two girls on the run, one of them can fly and the other is a podracer who can fly in her own right, gravity dont mean too much to me! how can they say [eleleth] could you come back home? everybody knows you dont ever wanna come back let me be the one to save you. tears are streaming down my face

- Oh for sure cold drink. She spends alot of her time out in the sun especially near beaches if she can so she loves cold juice, especially OJ. This girl just has a massive love for orange juice for some reason.

-Marlowe goes straight into fight mode. She might be small but if threatened or scared she is ready to throw hands. She might look frail but trust me, she can actually throw ppl through walls and lift more than most the men she hangs out with. She is insanely strong.

🌹 ROSE - do they like valentines day? have they been confessed to before? have they confessed to anyone before?

-Val loves Valentine's Day! They are such a lover that they enjoy just getting the people they care about little gifts to make them smile. I…. Idk if it counts as a confession but one year Hunter mistook the holiday for being a day all about Val and spoiled them for it. It wasn’t on Valentine’s Day but Val did confess their feelings to Hunter.

✏️ PENCIL - is there a particular quote / lyric that you associate with them?

- “Uh, ‘cause the world might do me in; It’s alright ‘cause I’m with friends.” - Ghost : Mystery Skulls makes me think of Valentine a lot. Val is a shy and nervous person but because of their friends and through helping Hunter learn how to express himself they have built up their own confidence and become braver. They can really come out of their shell and nothing around them matters if they have their friends.

👖 JEANS - what is their go-to outfit?

-Val usually wears the nice cozy leather jacket that Hunter got for them. It’s also a custom jacket so it has patches and things that fit Val’s interests and it makes them really happy and means alot. They also wear a soft dark blue shirt with lighter blue pattern and comfy loose capri joggers that dont squish their feather floof too much. Lots of times you will also find Val wearing a full face mask. This mask looks intimidating but its actually just bc they do alot of street painting and the mask ventilates the fumes.

🔧 WRENCH - are they good at fixing relationships? or do they tend to avoid doing so?

-Absolutely not. Eli is horrible at fixing relationships usually because he just doesn’t care to. He only has like 2 people that he actually cares about and anyone outside of those people he gives zero fucks what they think or how they feel. Now if he hurts someone he actually cares about it will take him a hot minute to get over himself but he will eventually try in his own way to apologize but he’s horrible at it.

💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?

-Eli struggles with showing love and happiness. He is filled with so much anger and has so much pain in his heart that he doesn’t let anyone get close to him. He has built up walls and only focuses on his work and has become so addicted to the wrath that he had forgotten what it was to really just take a step back and enjoy things in life. Dude really needs a break and relax, he is so intense and honestly hurting so deep down that he has just…. Forgot how to be happy.

🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they’re lying?

-Eli is an excellent liar. Mostly because he has a resting bitch face, something fierce and his expression hardly ever changes. Eli can lie but honestly he doesn’t really lie often, mostly bc he hardly interacts with people to begin with let alone bother to waste his time spinning a lie for them. The only way you might be able to tell he’s lying is his tail feathers might poof ever so slightly.

yknow what i talk about the blorbos so much i want to ramble about gameplay first. its a game of music so obviously they put a lot of work in sound design, right? the way that the different degrees of note sound slightly different (perfect is a sharp, crisp sound, great is softer, good is dull, etc) is both a useful audio indicator for experienced players to measure how well they are doing in a combo/all perfect attempt but also a way to keep less experienced players engaged with variety! also the background music slaps so hard you'll be watching a silly little play by some gay little theater clowns and the most banger of epic orchestras is playing in the back. this is my favorite it plays during a scene where rui makes the funniest little aaaaauuuuuuu!!!!! when he (the villan) is defeated. i had to put down my phone for a second. it's also a soundtrack that really fits the vibes of each of the units songs are used for! oh and actually playing games is quite fun, too. i feel like i should mention i actually like to play the game. i spend a lot of time doing that. according to the game i have played 3246 shows. i have done over a thousand of those shows with rui as the leader. i have a card for him for every type completely maxed out. hes also like 10 character levels higher than everyone else. i dont have a favorite..... this is not about shows uhhhh something i really appreciate about sekai is how creative the beat maps are! the law evading rock map is both super fun to play but also mirrors the original 2dmv!! oh and traffic jam during a part in the master chart there's green holds and then red flicks mirroring the 2dmv as well! and the salamander chart has a little cloud shaped hold for the "fuu" like blowing on hot noodles! and the once upon a dream during the "this world is full of strange, irregular things" or however the lyric translates the holds are funky shapes! there's so so so so so so many little references and they all fit so well.

ok i think that's enough about like. playing the game. anyways blorbos are amazing rui the aromantic gender stealing king and his little troupe of aroace idiots i love them so much they do so much for eachother and simply being hwere they are now shows so much growth from their pasts. tsukasa in a place where he can learn to be the star he's always dreamed of and he has friends who genuinely care about him and he's no longer lonely and he learns so much about being a better person and aaaa. emu's card stories hurt so bad cause those are the ones she mentions her grandpa in most. one story she had wxs decorate pxl for christmas and she climbed like a two story tall tree to put some lights up and she was like this is what me and grandpa did :) and then wehn they put the lights down she climbed the tree again and looked up to the clouds and thought about how she was closer to her grandpa from up there and she hopes he's proud of how much fun she's having with her new friends. he is proud emu. she's the best girl ever shes always painted as sunshine and bubbles and she is all wonderhoy yay happy but she has emotions too yall she's learning how to express those not so happy emotions and im proud of her for it. nene is the best she's so skilled i love how she gets very sharp tounged around those she's safe with and how much she cares about these new friends and how she's learned to not only become more confident in herself but how to be a teammate and yeah. nene. dont even get me started on rui. this dude. he's been so lonely. middle school rui breaks me he just needs a friend and now he's in a place where he's not only allowed but embraced for who he is. hes weird and dramatic and thats why hes awesome. and he cares! so ! much! all the safety he puts in and how much he considers everyone in the troupe for his plans and ajajfkdjfklasjfkljdsakfjdsaklfjksaljfklsdjfklasdjkf he loves his friends so much he made an entire sekai inside sekai about it. and inside the sekai were mini wxs and they went to the moon (literally) beacuse of him and they wanted him to stay. not to be cast out. to stay. thats how he feels about his friends. accepted. amazing.

Okay because I’m just going to keep making these posts: here is every single song from my ‘Favorite Music’ playlist that I think about Kian Stone to (some with extra explanations) ((in the order of when they were added to the playlist))

Take me to church, mr loverman, cherry wine (i am a sucker for the interpretation that becky was aware of what she was doing when she killed him and i love toxic love in fictional relationships), like real people do, bubblegum bitch, oh no! (i can imagine every single jrwi pc to this song with minimal effort), teen idle (okay fun fact i didnt like add these three songs to the playlist like right after each other its just that none of the songs in-between fit kian), poika nimeltä päivi (a finnish song about being a trans guy. Its a banger, the name translates to ‘boy named päivi’ päivi being a finnish girl’s name), päiväkoti (another finnish song, pretty sure its about a breakup but i feel like it also really fits the vibes of like kian away from the other two after moving to hollywood. I have cried to this song before, the name translates to kindergarten), goodbye my danish sweetheart, hey little songbird (made a post about this one before), road to hell ii (okay this one is more about rand to me but its still kind of about both kian and rolan just imagine rand to it post canon), brand new city, 4st 7lb (you cannot convince me he doesnt have either some kind of body image issues), born a girl (someone tell nicky wire (the guy who wrote the song) about being transfem i think he’d benefit from it), nobody loved you (imagining. Imagining one of the other guys to this after kian’s death), hold me like a heaven (no real basis for this i dont even know what the song is actually about but its one of my favorite manics songs and i can interpret the lyrics however i want), car lights (nightmare blunt rotation if they dated as teens or alternatively kian and jesse), the moon will sing (youd think kian would be the sun but no. He is the moon. The sun is either becky, the other guys, or, my personal favorite way to imagine it: kian’s own rockstar persona because he doesnt see his selfworth outside of that), r-a-k-a-s (more finnish music, love song about a guy who left the woman he loved behind to move to the city but would throw everything away to be with her again pretty fitting if you ask me, the name translates to l-o-v-e (as in like calling your partner love as a petname not the concept of love)), syntisten pöytä (i think this might be the last finnish one, its just a generally queer song. The name translates to table of the sinful), gladiator (i once again have almost no basis i just like the song and if i reach i can make it fit kian), lookatme (just like. Look at the lyrics i dont need to spell it out for you), strangelove, real men (this song is literally him fr), smoke with the devil (this song is LITERALLY him fr), animal nitrate (its a song about gay sex of course im going to associate it with nightmare blunt rotation), can’t get enough (suede yes this is one i will specifically say the artist for because you will not find the correct song otherwise. Anyways some very trans nonbinary lyrics), boys dont cry (back to my if i reach far enough every song is about him bullshit), pictures of you, lovesong, burn (the cure not hamilton also literally named a fic after lyrics from this), underneath the stars (again. Named a fic after. Nightmare blunt rotation moment), line without a hook (it was on my playlist back in the dark days and then i recently added it back because i decided it slapped actually), stripped (becky @ kian be like yes let me remove your skin or something), modern boys (literally wrote an entire fic inspired by this song it is just like nightmare blunt rotation for real)
