DP X DC PROMPT #26
(I'm feeling angsty today.)
(#) = Notes at the end of post
(*) = Just me building off of other ideas.
Going Supernova
The GIW have discovered his identity, and they don't waste time on using this knowledge to their advantage. They spent the last six months creating a weapon that not only hurts ghosts but absolutely obliterates them down to their very cores. After testing it for so long on minor ghosts and then discovering the local ghostly menace's secret, they have the bright idea to make an example out of Danny.
They ambush him as he's fighting the invading ghost of the day. Their first shot misses and hits the ghost they're fighting. As soon as the shot lands, the ghost freezes in place with a look of dread and horror.
They look up at Danny with tears in their eyes and has only a few precious seconds to say, "Run," before their skin cracks and they shatter, the miniscule shards evaporating into nothingness.
Danny is petrified and grief-stricken over what he just witnessed that he doesn't have the time to even twitch before the GIW lock their sights back onto him and shoot him in the back.
Agony consumes him. His chest burns, and his ribs rattle with the effort it takes for him to breathe through the pain. The civilians who were still on the scene gasped in horror as they watched their local hero's chest start to crack and glow from within.
What the GIW didn't know was that Danny had just recently elevated to Ancient status due to helping Clockwork with the timestream. That and with his status as a halfa, what they did will end in nothing but disaster. (1)
Danny spots his parents, sister, and friends in the crowd. His parents watched in awe and excitement while his Jazz, Sam, and Tucker looked at him with horror-stricken disbelief. Knowing what's to come and not having enough time to explain, he gives them a wobbly smile.
"I'm so sorry."
He whips around and rockets straight up into the sky. He breaks through the atmosphere in a matter of seconds and continues to fly at breakneck speed away from the little green-blue planet he calls home. He has to get away. He can't destabilize so close to them. He has to go even further.
His form is steadily breaking off into pieces as his human and ghost half fight and fail to keep him together. He can feel his human half dying and his ghost half barely holding on by a thread. He can't stop, though. If he stops here, the Earth will be destroyed from the backlash.
He had no worry for himself. After all, stars die all the time. That doesn't mean that's the end for them. They just take on a new form or even help breathe new planets and galaxies into life.
'A star's death is not the end!' He comforts himself.
He only makes it a few light-years further before his energy fades out to nothing, and he slows to a halt. It's only then that Danny starts to panic alone in the vacuum of space. The furthest he's even been from home and the comfort of his friends and family.
"No. No, no, no, no." He repeats over and over. "Not far enough. Not far enough! I'm still too close!!" (2)
His stuttering heart rabbits inside his chest along with his crumbling core. He hugs himself tight with the false hope that maybe that would stop himself from falling apart. He cries for his family, his friends, his planet. His life and lives he's about to take through no fault of his own.
Because for a star to give life, they must first destroy. (3)
"I'm sorry. I-I'm so sorry! Please!"
He sobs into his hands as the light of his core pulses one final time.
"Please." He whispers brokenly.
His core shatters, and he screams for the entire cosmos to hear. His form expands with immeasurable force and shakes the very foundations of creation. His desperate attempt to spare the Earth from his self-destruction was in vain as the waves of his shattered core ravaged the solar system and destroyed everything within its path.
The countless people and other creatures on Earth didn't even have time to blink before they were completely eradicated. Quick and painless but nonetheless gone.
It took centuries for everything to settle again.
It wasn't until countless millennium passed that the solar system began to take shape again. However, everything was reshaped and put back together as though with a child's memory of what it used to be from so long ago. Some things were bound to be different, like how Mars gained its own population of intelligent humanoid creatures. How Earth's own population started to develop extraordinary abilities and magic was able to be used more freely outside of supernatural species.
Soon, there were heroes popping up all over the universe of all shapes, sizes, and species. Some people were even reborn. They started remembering a life that, as far as they knew, never actually existed. How could it? None of the people they were before showed up in any records. There were records, of course. They just, unfortunately, no longer existed.
No one knew why, either. At least not until a magic user stumbled upon a tome belonging to what they knew as the Underworld. It told the story of a young boy who died too young and was destroyed from what he became afterward. How his destruction also destroyed the world despite the boy's efforts to save it.
This story was shared with the masses of people experiencing these memories of other lives, including the heroes who took up the mantle of keeping the Earth and other corners of the galaxy safe. They mourned the loss of a life so young, so bright and full of potential. They hoped that wherever the child ended up, that they were at peace.
Little did they know, the child was part of the universe itself, his very being woven into the fabric that makes up the night sky and everything that lays beyond. They can't see or hear him, but that precious child--the Ancient of Space--laid curled around the Milky Way itself with Earth cradled gently in his trembling hands.
(1) Because of his status as the new Ancient of Space and the fact that he is half human/alive is the reason his destabilization took longer than the ghost he was previously fighting. An Ancient has immense power of the aspect of reality they control, and his human half was desperately trying to keep him alive. He can't live without his ghost half, though. It was also the power of his Ancient status that made his destabilization so explosive and damaging. However, him being a halfa is also what saved his existence in the end and allows him to still continue to be the Ancient of Space, as Space itself is always in a state of dying and rebirth. It just took several thousands of years to pull himself back into a semblance of what he previously was, but obviously irrevocably changed.
(2) According to scientists a supernova would have to be within 30-50 light-years to trigger a mass extinction on Earth. To be actually completely safe from one, however, it'd have to be 160 or more light-years away. Danny didn't even make it to 20 light-years before his core self-destructed, which is why he was panicking.
(3) As I'm sure most of you know, supernovae are essential to creating life, but that life is preceded by the death of said star.
(*) I haven't really thought of who would be reborn into which character. I originally thought of Jack Fenton being reborn as Bruce Wayne, but Bruce only disguises himself as a himbo while Jack actually is one. The only reason I thought it would work out it because 1) Jack's paranoia about ghosts and translating into Bruce's own paranoia 2) him regaining his past memories would explain his propensity to collect black-haired, blue eyed children because of his loss of Danny and 3) him and his relationship with Jason after he came back as Red Hood.
Other than that, I can't think of who any of the other characters might be. You can decide!

NGL I have STRONG opinions about digital releases omitting the letters to the editor section of older comics. I feel like the letters are a part of comic history and should be aggressively preserved.

I think the main reason there’s such a big discrepancy between Jason fans on what his relationship with Bruce should be is the fact that neither option is completely narratively satisfying.
Option one is that Jason and Bruce never get along or reach a compromise, which makes sense given both their morals but would eventually become quite boring narratively and comes with the risk of making Jason into a boring one dimensional villain that’s always in the wrong.
Option two is letting Jason compromise his own morals to become a bat again, which would allow for a few cool stories and some progression past Jason’s death, but would majorly compromise Jason’s moral compass and ideals to do so.
Now logically there is a third option, where Bruce lets Jason (or literally anyone else) kill the joker and he does the same thing Bruce does with people like Selina and Harley and just ignore the killing, but he won’t because DC hates me personally so for some reason Bruce doesn’t care when other people kill except when it’s Jason (or Helena)

my problem with anduin's new look isn't the grime or the hair or the beard, i agree it makes sense for him to have those, it's that it has zero connection to his old cinematics model 😭😭 like..... if you compare the two carefully his eyebrows are completely different, his cheeks are less pronounced, his button nose is gone, his hair is darker for no reason etc. idk he used to have a more stylized and unique look to him and now he just looks like every male action protagonist ever
I don't know how to explain this to you and I don't want to be mean about this, I'm trying really hard not to come off that way, but both time and stress ages a person. Anduin was absent for three years having horrific PTSD from when he was dominated and was roughing it on his own. Eyebrows grow, he's probably dehydrated from being in a desert wasteland, he never even had a button nose to begin with, and hair darkens naturally overtime.
The complaint that he looks like "every male action protagonist ever" is so bizarre to me, and one said by a lot of people. As it turns out, white boys tend to grow up and look like white men, and when the bar for looking like a white man is "short hair and a beard," you trip over that easily.
Did you expect him to never age at all ever? Or is this a case of you guys being trapped in your "progressive" gender stereotypes that the moment a guy that isn't traditionally masculine doesn't shave for a week it means he's a completely different person now?

CW - mind-blowing lack of critical thinking skills, spider slander, etc.
what in the HOT HELL is this (blurring out the user cause I'm not here to start drama)
Bored??? the poor thing looks emotionally damaged.
he finally got rescued by the people who abandoned him for months, who he was willing to be tortured and die for, and he had to watch his brother die because of it. not only did he die, but he died in front of him, for him. spider and Lo'ak were the ones holding him up as he bled out (we can't see from the angle, but he also probably held pressure on the exit wound).
he saved his dad (which I won't be discussing why I don't blame him for that, cause I don't care enough) who cared for him more in a couple of months then the Sully's did for him in 16 years. he has no idea what he's supposed to do, what's expected of him. he feels out of place in what should be his family. he's never been included in family life with them and now he's at the funeral of his brother. the women who almost killed him literally 5 feet away.
he looks like he's dissociating, numb, cause I don't know, he's a kid who just want through a shit ton of traumatizing events back to back. he looks hesitant because he knows one wrong move, one ounce of perceived disrespect could get him killed.
he looks like a traumatized 16 years old reacting to his brothers death. cut him some slack. there is so much going through his head, he's just floating through the motions.
if you think he's being disrespectful, check yourself, cause that's genuinely terrifying.

Kazakhs and our ancestors were for a very ling time nomadic. Our culture is built around it in many ways that I don't want to delve into right now.
The reason for this is what the land we live on is: a steppe. It is not that good for agriculture because the climate is too harsh, and sometimes there isn't even enough water(most steppes in Kazakhstan are actually desert-steppes).
Even livestock isn't really that good, because they would feed to much, so staying in one place wasn't really possible.
The thing is, this wasn't like. Hundred people going randomly around all of Kazakh Khanate.
Imagine a family. They are one yurt. An aul might consist from a few of them or hundreds of them. Every family is a part of a tribe(it is a tad more complicated than this with multiple levels, cause genealogy was really well kept among common people) which has designated land for them.
Now, depending on the land they were on for hundreds of years, they might need to nomad(?)/move(this doesn't feel like a right verb) two or four times a year to their own pastures which are largely left vacant at other times. And they move, with their every belonging, their house and all of their livestock. There are some nuances like some permanent housing, and going into towns and trading, but this was largely it.
Just imagine the level of organisation needed for something like that, from both a family and the whole country to make sure that no one oversteps, everybody has enough, and can survive.
You won't find many nomads in Kazakhstan today however. There are some outside of it, but here it was made difficult by Russian Empire and then killed off by USSR entirely.

I am. in my feelings today about the dsmp cc drift. Did it have to turn out this way? Was there another option? Was this inevitable? I don't think that anyone's really happy about how things turned out, but I don't think we can ever go back. Man...

On today's disability day of mourning, I would like to remind people that the first victims of the nazi regime were disabled people. Disabled people were considered to have "life unworthy of life" and to be "useless eaters." This rhetoric was not left in the '40s; people continue to believe similar things about disabled people and our value, and there are still disabled people murdered around the world by their families or caregivers. Today is a day of mourning, but I would also like to reaffirm that this rhetoric is wrong; we all have value as human beings, regardless of our differences, regardless of our needs, and regardless of our economic output.

I just want to say this and make it short.
I find it disgusting how some people are using technoblades name to hate on certain ccs who decides on whether they want to continue with dsmp s2 or not continue.
so what if tommy and dream want a fresh start? so what if niki and phil don’t want to start over without him? it’s not our place to say anything besides having a mutual respect for their decision. We are just fans. We mourn technoblade passing and so did his close friends. They are allowed to mourn and grieve differently.
Dsmp s2 is not erasing technoblade and his legacy. Technoblade never dies, and he lives on with us. They will NEVER let him be forgotten.

Thinking about Mountains of Mourning got me rereading it again for the millionth time. Every time I think, 'surely by now it has no hold of me? I know every turn it takes, can damn near recite parts of it.' And here I am, sobbing.
The story itself is beautiful, the language is gorgeous, but there is also something in the setting that speaks to me personally.
Our family farm is in a community smaller than silvy vale, and has been in the family for at least a couple of centuries. It's in the least populated and most backwater part of the country. And my country itself is small and insignificant, sparsely populated, mostly wilderness. In the eyes of some we may be backwater forest folk, tough as our land and just as stuck in our ways.
And I am a very tied-to-the-earth person. I am at home barefoot in the forest, fishing in the lakes, foraging in the swamps, working with animals, chopping wood. These forests are my forests, this land is my land. I was born on it and if I have to be buried, I want to be buried in it. I've never wanted to leave for better pastures. I've wished I could hold my home and my people up.
So though I cry for the beauty of the language and the message, and the grief of the plot, I also cry for the happy ending that Silvy Vale receives.

I could/should elaborate when I’m not falling asleep as I am rn but like. I feel like for the people who you “mourn” who have died young and/or suddenly who you knew only in passing, or only casually interacted with, or were once close to but in the years between then and their death you barely spoke, etc etc etc, you arent actually mourning them or their presence in ur life (and now palpable absence) (supposedly) but just what it means to be a human on earth who has to grapple with inevitable loss and the immense weight of what a Person is and their footprint on everyone they interact with that is fleeting even tho there are several billions of us on the floating rock but none of those billions of lifetimes are ever overlapping 100%…. sigh :/
#context a student who graduated last semester (undergrad) died in a car crash like 500 miles away#and one of my fellow grad students/TAs and a few of his former profs are so upset about it and like………#u barely knew this kid I mean of course I feel terrible that someone with his life ahead of him was snuffed out in the blink of an eye#but like…….. if u had never found out about this. or if this hadn’t happened and he went on to live a boring long life#he would mean next to nothing to u !!! u would be none the wiser! u would probz not even recognize his name in 10 years! why are u crying!!!#idk I would be less ANNOYED and hashtag BOTHERED by it if the same people didnt say such nasty derogatory shit about their undergrads#like every other time I talk to u about mundane news ur complaining about how ur students are all lazy untalented idiots#but now THIS ONE who was never meaningful to u before THIS GUY is SPECIAL to u…? u mourn him?#2 weeks ago if I showed u his student ID photo u would struggle to remember his name but NOW HE MEANS SOMETHING#NOW THAT HES GONE AND IT DOESNT FUCKING MATTER ANYMORE NOW HE MEANS SOMETHING TO YOU#tldr if ur still reading lmao I feel like this stuff is always about yourself and almost never about the dead person#which is valid in its own way I mean I’ve literally cried after passing mangled cars and ambulances with people who defs aren’t gonna surviv#but it’s never been about their life’s overlap with mine and retconning some kind of memorable or emotional significance to it#idk why I’m so emotional about this in like 3 separate directions but it’s just so fucking frustrating !!!!!!! 🥲🤡

going through the 20th century girl tag to move on and appreciate all the great moments only to find out ppl would rather yijin died than not end up with heedo
#20th century girl#twenty five twenty one#20th century girl spoilers#spoilers#maybe I'm in a weird mood but I can't scroll any more asldkfj#I get why ppl say the movie did it better: pacing + showing aftermath + believable#even though the sadder ending was a surprise they set us up for it and have proper closure to the characters#and while I still have some gripes (what happened to the brother how did woonho diedoes the squad not stay in touch where are they all now)#overall it was solid#but idk if 25 21 pulled a 'he died' I'd be so pissed - it's lazy and thoughtless and not marrying your first love is realistic#their final scenes together were soooo good it's just the reason for parting was unbelievable & present day scenes left us with more qs#but to be like 'yijin and heedo were soulmates and their breakup is unthinkable so...#'instead of growing and moving ahead after all his struggles to establish himself and support his family he should just DIE'#like this 20th c girl ending is so much more heartbreaking imo sldkfjasdlldgfkj#watching him smile at sunrise all hopeful for a future with you he'll never have 22 years later is SO MUCH WORSE#idk I'm glad bora is shown smiling and cherishing what they had rather than mourning (tho she has every right too) but it still doesn't...#...feel like closure to me. but there really is no good parting when it comes to death huh#show me people can treasure their youth and still find happiness and fulfillment in unexpected ways down the line!!#there's a beautiful piece of 90s nostalgia media still waiting in the wings for us I just know it#just don't know how much I can take my heart being ripped to shreds in the meantime 😅#ranting

I'm majorly bummed about Willow. I thought that with the look and feel of the show it might withstand the cut. Sadly it hasn't. I've been through this from a lot of shows and it sucks really hard. All I can look forward to is some amazing fan fictions, hearing more headcanons if you've got them, and maybe just guessing about what could have been in detail. I'll be bummed for a while but I'll look back over these amazing posts people came up with, and the videos they've made and that'll keep me going.

i think about these panels every day
#it’s about bruce stopping because damian asks him to#talia realizing that ras was awful but he was also her father and she’s allowed to have complex feelings about him and how she mourns him#talia also stopping herself from killing brion bc she loves damian and understands his point of view on the situation#and it tying into what talia said before about ras having a change of heart and having stopped using the lazarus pit#because he feels he has found an heir in damian who will change things for the better#damian being the future of the al ghul family#damian carrying two legacies and trying to better both#it’s about them being a family#bruce and talia not being on the best terms and not always seeing eye bc of the way they were raised (and what moral codes they developed#bc of circumstance)#but still loving each other and loving their son#i love this robin run a lot#and i feel that this points to damian’s philosophy being that people should be given the opportunity to change and be better#because it ties to how he himself changed with dick’s help#so it makes sense he’d want others to be given that opportunity#i’m not super into comics so i could be wring abt some things but this is my interpretation!!#damian wayne#talia al ghul#bruce wayne#robin (2021)#also damian saying ‘we all must pay’ in reference to how they can try to do better and that includes atonement and how#trying to change doesn’t erase the hurt they’ve caused#and atoning is part of the process hence they must all do it at some point#and then damian turning lazarus island into a safe haven like it all ties together#and i’m so mad that this run got cancelled just as they were introducing lazarus island and all the other cool stuff they could do with it

i really dont understand the level of brainwashing that must happen for someone to look at a group of people who were expelled from their homes and made second class citizens in their own country, constantly subject to violence and detention and bombings and be completely and thoroughly convinced that the only reason they are angry is because of antis*mitism

gotham is good friends with death.
they meet each other more often than not; death stays the night sometimes.
gotham trusts death. gotham trusts death more than anything, because death loves her children.
when her children die, gotham watches as their souls rise from their bodies. they are drawn to her, and she cups the cold spirits in her calloused palms. with great grief and love, gotham raises them up and passes them to death. he takes the souls, and gently cradles them to his bones.
the chill of the souls mix with his own, and death receives their memories. death now understands them. death now loves these souls.
(you must understand, death does not hate life. he in fact, loves her. life is long and beautiful, and death is very patient. he is content to watch as souls blossom in life's palms before being gently passed onto his own. death knows life is beautiful, and he's honored to be able to feel life in each soul he takes.)
death does not blame gotham for his visits. he enjoys her company, and he loves her children. they carry so many stories with them, and they bring much joy to an ancient like him. gotham is grateful her children are in such loving hands.
death is good friends with gotham.
and life still blossoms in her children.
