So... Warriors

It is obvious by now he's not ok. He's irritable and tense.

I've had thoughts and ideas on this for awhile, so I think now's a good time to speak them. Very important detail at the end.

There are some really big and some small things adding to his stress

The drama with the sword. Wild went against the agreed plan, and lashed out in anger fear for twilights injury. From things Jojo said, Wars is mad about it for a while.

I have said this in other posts, but based on things Jojo has said and some details, I do not think Wild likes wars. He has not really gotten close to him, which adds on to the negativity between them

But Wars... is a captain. This journey is different, and he's doing amazing at setting aside expectations of how to work with rank. But that is still a clear stressor- to him that was unacceptable in battle

^this is one big thing we watched go wrong and has clearly been upsetting since

Another thing is

Wars has been taking on too much. We've seen him break up a fight at the inn, comfort Time (time!), and tell him he'd take care of the others.

Twice he said "let them", and "let him be"-making others have space they needed. He asked Four what was wrong and followed up with helping with smithing.

^^These are all small things. None of these are huge- practically tiny tasks. But they add up- all the attention to others feeling but not his own

... and

Wars has not smiled. Yes, he smiled, but it was not his smile. Since Twilight went injured to the inn, there has only been smiles in a way expected, but not much beyond when he found out his friend wasn't dead. (And when he helped Four at the blacksmiths)

In the updates, I have seen others saying how cool/pretty he looked. Which he did! But emotion wise, I only thought he looked angry. Even when teasing Twilight...

But here's the biggest thing that I believe is bothering him...

I've wanted to point this out for awhile. The thing is, Wars was really hurt when he found out Twilight didn't tell him about Wolfie

It's small details. A few sentences and facial expressions. But they add up over the chapter, and I don't think he felt trusted or trusting when he found out

He tried to find out who else knew

And why he was one who didn't

*read the blurred words:

"No one said anything to me, I'm just left out of the loop. Who else knows? Just us?"

Wolfie being secret wasn't necessarily about trust, but wars took it personally. He really didn't understand or want to accept that Twilight would have told some of the others but not him...

Wars is distinctly closer to the ones his age, who the younger ones often turn to. And as someone who's been through war, who bonds closest with those he feels he works with best?

Twilight having a major secret he didn't share with Wars, but did with others,

Felt like a knife to the (back?) chest.

And it hurt him

Look at his face when saying "we couldn't do a thing for him". He's looking away, directly after asking four and wild if they knew. I don't think he felt trusted. Or trusting. From thinking someone wasn't who he thought he was, and maybe was closer to others...

^^this is what I think is perhaps the biggest stressor- yet most unnoticeable

Wars never spoke to anyone about his feelings. He pushed it aside and went and helped.

This is ok. Between people so close, anything can be worked out. This is very revealing of how much Wars cares about twilight and the others

As far as Warriors pushing aside his needs and focusing on others... it's hard.

But I can confidently say this: Warriors would never want to not help all he could, when the others needed him

Wars is stressed right now. He's taken on too much, he's probably still mad at Champion, and... he feels betrayed (god wars should never have to feel betrayed) and untrusted

Like literally everyone ever others, wars deals with his hurt. Sometimes he can't deal with it alone, and sometimes he can. It will all work out, and I love how much he loves his brothers.

But nothing, I repeat nothing

Thoughts on #I really liked it overall - it was meticulously researched and gave me information that I hadn't previously known about Cecily #However this often contrasts with Laynesmith's own very evident biases assumptions and conjecture #and the effect is very jarring #This becomes slightly more pronounced after 1464 and actually ridiculous after 1483. #She also suggests that Henry VI may have genuinely died of a melancholy-induced stroke like Edward IV claimed which is just...lmfao #I don't know what to say at this point lol #To be fair she does specifically note that he died shortly after Edward arrived in London and that most contemporaries believed #it was far too convenient #which is far more acknowledgement and culpability than she gives Richard III whose culpability for the 'disappearance' of his nephews is #literally never touched upon - the blame is conveniently dumped on Buckingham #honestly the whole Deal with Buckingham is so odd. dude was a political neophyte; was given a primarily ceremonial role by Edward IV #throughout his reign and was younger than Richard (who was a seasoned politician). Is it too late to mention that it’s always irked me when writers add to a finished story on twitter, and then it gets treated as canon?

This is, of course, different from the tweets where writers answer questions about unclear scenes that were already put in a story, or gaps in the narrative from scenes/chapters being cut. Those types of additions don’t bother me at all. But adding in completely mundane facts or events seemingly out of nowhere—on twitter no less—seems… like it shouldn’t be allowed?

I might be misreading how the fandom responds to this stuff though. I’ve always thought people took it with a grain of salt but it’s hard to figure out the line in the transformers fandom, when even undisputed canon is taken lightly and shuffled around in a blender.

I don’t write this with heat but I do have big feelings about it all the same. Jro’s tweets about random character facts that didn’t happen in the comics shouldn’t exist on the same level as, y’know, actual canon. I will die on this hill

My first time watching Glass Onion it was obvious that Miles' speeches were bullshit, but I still searched for any hidden meaning there might be.

The second time is a different experience though because every time my brain starts to search for meaning, I feel like Benoit Blanc discovering that no, there is absolutely no hidden meaning.

It's bullshit it's all nothing nothing nothing! It is just how you end up talking when everyone reacts to your self-aggrandizing word vomit like it is actually wisdom.

Also, legit, when Miles gave his stupid bullshit speech about what the word 'disruptor' means to him, I shit you not I was like holy shit am I back in business school right now?!

Miles must have given speeches like that at 100 business school graduations, goddamn.

Like, the motherfuckers really do sound like this. We didn't have any billionaires come, but we had a lot of millionaire guest speakers in my classes, and they fucking talk like that.

about to leave a scathing review for a historical fiction book on goodreads (felt so strongly about it i made an account for the first time) then chickening out once i realised i'd put down my full name and i dont want to offend the author TOO much in case we end up working in the same field as historians

so much of what happened holds great significance not only to harry but to every single one of us. him acknowledging the flags, asking the fans to hold them up proudly, and thanking the audience for creating such a safe environment at his shows -- all these things weren't done in solidarity alone, they came from the heart of someone who's very much in the same community as us. he wants those flags there, he wants that pride there, he wants this safe space for both himself and for us, as has been the case for years now. the speech that he gave today came from a place of familiarity, he couldn't have said those words in the way that he did if he were just an ally. it was one of the very few times he acknowledged the flags using his words and i think that's monumental. rainbows are basically synonymous to harry's concerts now and it's because we felt safe and proud enough to do it and he wanted us to do it because he feels safe and proud too. i hope every single person who's been part of this fandom knows just how important whatever you do is. you are all important.

Has anyone put this here yet???? Ok ahem ahem sit back and buckle up as you hear me ramble about Mac and bloo's friendship because wowzers I have a lot so say

ALRIGHT ALRIGHT. Maybe I could be remembering some points wrongly, so do tell me if that ever happens so lol

noticing a pattern where a lotta people have claimed that Mac and bloo's friendship is considered "toxic", because of how big of a jerk Bloo acts towards Mac.

Well it is true, keep in mind that according to google atleast, the most accurate definition for that term is : a friendship where one of the party gets emotionally or physically hurt/used where it becomes a burden.

Think about it, if their relationship was really a burden Mac wouldn't really be willing to even give in the effort to visit him which shows how strong their bond is!! Sure it could maybe just be excused as a strong friendship, which it is (and basically clears the entire point of their friendship being toxic too btw)

I'm gonna try to keep it as short as I can, but here's something i wanna also clear up about Bloo being the selfish one

a lotta people would also say that bloo's personality drastically changed later on, but *in my opinion* it could honestly be viewed as the other way round where Mac is the one who actually grew up and matured instead.

Try to think outside the big picture - bloo's annoying and dumb behaviour could honestly be something him and Mac would uses to do/behave as before he grew up and matured if You. Get it (hopefully this makes senseLOL)

it could be described more as bittersweet, rather than toxic since imaginary friends could not age whilst their owners? Mmhm

Also how Bloo was intentionally supposed to be Mac's playdate where they you know goof around but as Mac grows older, he simply can't relate to Bloo as much anymore.

to close this off they definitely still care about each other very dearly in the end! You can also see how Bloo would truly show more affectionate back if it wasn't for his selfishness and ego in the way everytime!

OH WAIT In the middle of writing this here are some other good points my friend bought up:

Basically the entire point of Foster's is leaving your imaginary friends there as the owners grow older and stuff but in Mac's situation he doesn't just leave Bloo like that!!! He is actually WILLING to still hang out w Bloo no matter how "different" they could be from eachother

This point is similar as the one I've mentioned above, js wanted to throw this into here aswell since it makes my point more justified :)

Just finished Moving and I'm a sobbing mess.

I think the way they brought everything together was well done. And also the parallels between some of the characters!!

So, I’m doing this. The fact that this drama is so little known breaks my heart, so I feel the need to share what little I can with you all - also because it’s making me crazy and I need to share this insanity, too.

Some sparse notes before I leave this first short transcript under the cut: 1. I am not a professional translator, just an amateur, and my english has been mostly self taught, so you might find some imperfections in the adaptation-- don’t be shy and let me know, I do love to learn new language related things <3; 2. I picked these short scenes because I had never attempted a translation of this magnitude, mostly I just transposed my own writing which is a whole other thing, and I wanted to flex my muscles before doing anything longer and more complex-- for example, if this goes well I’d like to try my hand at the Ivan & Smerdjakov dressing scene or do the whole Great Inquisitor; 3. I tried to translate the closest to the original script as I could -- I say script but, well, I had to do my own transcripts because I can’t find even italian subs -- to mantain the same feeling, again if you want to shoot me a message to discuss choices I would love to talk about it! :); 4. I put timestamps and some very basic and bare stage directions if you just wish to read the script and not follow along with the drama, but I wholeheartedly suggest that you do because the acting is the icing on the cake that makes this adaptation so great; 5. you’ll notice I’m using a different spelling for the names as the common american english one, it is the one I’m most used to and what my translation of The Brothers Karamazov uses, so I decided to keep it-- for my sanity’s sake; 6. there will never exist enough words to express how pissed I am that english doesn’t have a formal you pronoun.

Grušen’ka: You are Dmitrij Karamazov – well, I have some promissory notes in your name given to me by your father to collect. We’re working together, Fëdor Pavlovič and I, you didn’t know?

Dmitrij: But I don’t owe one ruble to my father – not one ruble! When I was a military officer he lent me money stealing from the inheritance my mother left me… and pretended I signed promissory notes… this is new, eh, Agrafena Alexandrovna? Theft secured by promissory note, a dirty swindle of which I am the victim.

Grušen’ka: Your father knows how to deal in other people’s money like few others.

Dmitrij: It is a sad family story and the protagonist is him – Fëdor Pavlovič! My father! They say you know him well, very well.

Grušen’ka: Your father is greedy, greedy for anything.

Dmitrij: For you, too? – Be careful, he’s a Karamazov, damned even by demons, his soul is stained – me, I’m not a son to him, I’m a dog who hunts in dark hallways, hissing “The law will be on my side, only a judge may decide, the money is mine!”, and so the buffoon makes me look like the perpetrator.

Grušen’ka: The role of the victim doesn’t suit you very much but – you too, I don’t know how to say it, you seem obsessed by something, too.

Dmitrij: I’m a Karamazov too, why should the worms that are corrupting my father spare me instead? (rubs his forehead nervously, sits down on the couch) – I’ve known you for such a short time and already I’m confessing myself, this bothers me, why do I speak to you with such brutality?

Grušen’ka: Because you’re a savage (laughs) – as I am, after all! I’m a peasant, Dmitrij Fëdorovič, eh, don’t be formal with me. Mah, maybe you’re wrong, but maybe you’re right, too, I don’t know; anyway here are your promissory notes, take them, I’m not interested in them anymore.

Dmitrij: No – they belong to the old man, they must be deducted from what he still owes me, return them to him! Thank you… thank you Agrafena Alexandrovna.

Grušen’ka: Call me Grušen’ka – and don’t believe too much in my kindness, no, I can be very greedy too: you see, those who spent a childhood in misery as I have cannot be very soft; they might feel something else, though, another thing…

Dmitrij: –pity?

Grušen’ka: Oh, savages like you are cannot inspire pity – anger, maybe… or–

Dmitrij: –or?

Grušen’ka (calling out): Some tea, Fenja, bring us some tea.

not reblogging the post because i know it's a flawed test (and infuriatingly poorly worded to wit) but the RAADS-R autism test is going around again and i got an 87, which is i think what i got the last time i took it and also tracks - i'm personally pretty certain that i'm not autistic, but (autistic) friends of mine have historically been split on the issue because apparently i 'act' like an autistic person and they're often surprised when i say i'm actually not

#my *closest* friends tend to think i'm not but - to quote one guy - '[i'm] very smart and smart ppl tend to have traits that overlap' #which is an interesting assessment (he's autistic tb clear) and i think i know where it's coming from #i'm very direct with comments; i often have trouble with empathy; i'm clever (or y'know 'clever' for a given value of the word); #i don't feel emotions particularly strongly - or immediately - and this comes across in my speech #which i've been told can come off as detached/disaffected/uncaring even when it's not trying to be; #i'm apparently quite difficult to read sometimes? or come off as intimidating per neutral expression; #uh. one time an english teacher told me that i'd taught her to 'think more logically' whatever the fuck that means; #these are i think stereotypical autistic 'smart guy' traits which do not actually map on to the majority of autistic people afaik #at least not as a package or all expressed the same way - but in this case i think it's a category error #interesting food for thought nonetheless. i spend some time thinking about it because people do ask me occasionally #and the general autistic mileu of tumblr.com has actually helped me be nicer to myself about those traits #(as well as check myself abt other people; i'm not going to pretend to be some kind of saintly autistic whisperer or w/e) #considered going back and taking the test with the 'most generous' and then the 'least generous' answers and comparing them #but i can't be bothered. add a button for 'in specific situations' or die by my hand #i WILL say that some of said autistic friends who were surprised to find out i wasn't #expressly thought i WAS because they drew a correlation between their behaviour and my own #so it's not just 'people are misreading me because of stereotypes about how autistic people act' although i do think that can be an element #let me know if this post is weird or w/e it is literally just speculating on myself and how people perceive me #as a consequence of tending to occupy circles otherwise occupied largely by neurodivergent people #('fandom' and 'archaeology and anthropology')

⭐️ Star - Do you have a favourite character? If so, why are they your favourite?

Oh no a very hard question actually... Probably the answer is evidently Emily and Dee since I spend more time thinking and writing about them than any of my other characters. POSSIBLY if I had to choose out of the two of them I'd pick Dee because I am kind of a sucker for a sad sack loser with emotional problems and I deeply enjoy thinking up situations to make him happy and/or traumatised. I also enjoy overthinking his powers and what kinds of things I have to tweak about physics for him to exist with the functions I've given him. (Such as recently I've thought of new objections to the plausibility of time travel but I think I've also thought of a way to resolve them storywise which I personally think is very funny, but if I learn more about physics before it comes up it might change.)

I love Zoe a lot but she is much harder to write and to draw for some reason? I feel like she is clear in my head but never comes out right somehow. It's weird.

I have other characters from other stories that I love too... another favourite who is unrelated to this story is a guardian angel whose first guardee died prior to the story beginning; clearly the angel fucked up a bit with that but gets a second chance, but then is pretty lousy with the second person too!! Trying to push them to fill the shoes of the first person.

Recently I found out that the person who inspired my first 'canon nonbinary' character (I didn't know that was a thing at the time tho) has since come out as for real nonbinary, which obviously makes a lot of sense lol. It was mostly about this one very cool jacket they owned. But that character was a strong fave for a long time... the story was terrible and really problematic lolol but ah well. Probably all the good parts of that character have gone into Dee and Zoe anyway.

🛰 Satellite - Do you have a character who is very dependent on another character? Is it healthy or unhealthy?

WELL. Again... Emily and Dee are each other's most emotionally intimate relatinship... Dee again is more dependant on Emily than vice versa, and less healthy about it, although I would say it's overall good for them both (but I would say the healthy/unhealthy balance varies over time and may be affected by external factors...).

Zoe is still on the periphery a bit but.............. well there are/will be some dynamics of questionable health there. She doesn't have particularly healthy attachments and is still not exactly over her previous friendship dynamic of being the second best friend of two besties who were shitty to her, and is still kind of stuck in the mode of 'trying to be exactly what the other person wants so they will like me'. Which Emily is not really aware of because she doesn't ever do that. Although the kinds of things Zoe plays up to try to be friends with her probably aren't as bad as what she has done to get OTHER people to like her, and she's relatively confident that Emily isn't going to use any of the stuff she knows against her.

Again, in terms of OTHER characters I have a couple where they are both disabled in various ways but one has more problems with mobility and communication than the other, and also had to be rescued from a kind of slavery by the other, which naturally gives the rescuer some pause for thought about the power dynamic there and whether she's ~taking advantage~ by falling in love with her at the same time (I mean by the time she even gets aware enough of her feelings lolol, gotta sort of pine without realising first!!)... but I'm trying to write that one as pretty healthy tbh, they're just trying to support each other through a difficult world yknow. And anyway the one who used to be a slave deliberately tried to square that debt immediately so it wouldn't be hanging over them both and is now mostly consumed with a quest for revenge lol. But also love.

I finally saw the Barbie movie! I have. Thoughts.

#I am too deep in the Illness™ to fully articulate said thoughts but ultimately: #stylistically it was very good and it was extremely funny. I thought the message got muddied a little bit and the pacing was uneven. #I enjoyed it but I don't really have a burning desire to ever watch it again. #I thought ken was extremely annoying. #there were some really nice pieces of commentary in there that succinctly put words to a variety of issues. #but I ultimately felt like this was trying to be too many things at the same time. #like a feminist commentary AND a stylized comedy AND a celebration of weirdness/ordinariness AND an identity discovery story #and I think it would have worked better if either a) they had picked one of those and ran with it the whole way or b) this had been #formatted as a tv show so that each one of those could have been given the appropriate amount of time it deserved. I think it was just #trying to do too much in the space of a two hour movie #there were also these random bursts of like 'oh no I'm in a position of power/privilege that's so HARD I hate it so MUCH' but meant #completely earnestly? which I also found weird. #and like. the movie is fine. it's not evil or horrible or even badly-made it just didn't completely rock my world. it was a pleasant two #hours that made me laugh #mc13 watches stuff #please don't hate me I know how beloved this movie was
