Ananas Dragon Cookie x Reader

You never thought about being nicer than others, you just liked to be kind to people, after all, in your village everyone was kind to you and you knew the nice feeling that being treated nicely made everyone feel, and after the mess your friends and you left on the Pineapple isle you couldn't be calm without having to apologize to the dragon who made that island their home, Dino-sour cookie insisted that it wasn't so big of a deal but your conscious wouldn't let you forget it, Milk cookie by the other hand was truly happy that you tried to make peace instead of fighting like others, he himself was sorry too after all, he told you that he would help you without a doubt in case you needed some protection, the golden dragon wasn't that easy to deal with.
One day you took the courage and decided to send Ananas dragon cookie an 'I'm sorry' gift, you bought fruit and a golden necklace, in your mind they wouldn't even use it but it would be a nice detail, you packed it all up in a basket and adorned it with a pink bow, obviously with a note that said:

Of course you couldn't even go to the archipelago by yourself, you had to do work and help the people in your village so the best option was asking Mango cookie to do so, he knew the place like the palm of his hand!
"Of course I'll help you! It's nice to know someone else also cares about their feelings for the island! I'll make sure they receive your gift Y/N, you can trust me!" Mango Cookie said, carefully taking the gift and putting it in a safe spot on his canoe.
"Thank you so much Mango! I can't leave my village for now, so many work I have to do" You sighed, knowing that your village needed you, Mango gave you a sweet smile to reassure you and said:
"Well I promise you there's nothing to worry about, I'll tell you what they say to your gift alright?" With that he sailed to the ocean, saving bye to you.
You waited and waited and waited, somehow you got the tiniest bit of hope of getting at least one letter back of them, but that was much to ask, you knew from the beginning that Ananas wasn't fond of cookies, you almost got imprisoned by them for digging up holes in the island with Milk and Dino-sour, it didn't mean that you wanted to damage it, it was a desperate attempt to meet the dragon after all, those thoughts were interrupted when you heard Mango calling your name, he was running with something in his hands and an excited smile
"Y/N! Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N!" Mango repeated your name while running, almost tripping with a small rock but getting near you without falling "Sorry for being late but the waves were rough and I had to stay there for a while, they sent you this!" The kid gave you a small box and looked at you with curiosity "You'll tell me what it is? They wouldn't let me see!"
You laughed a bit at the excitement of the other cookie but opened the small box, you were excited and expecting something like a ring or other accessory but no, there was just a small but very fancy paper, you sighed with a small smile at reading it
ββββββ β¦ β β¦ ββββββ
It was the least you could do,
that transgressions wasn't something
forgivable but I decided to show mercy,
the next time any of you harm the
beauty of my island I won't be that
nice. Though if you decide to come
I wouldn't say no to it.
And you already know who I am.
ββββββ β¦ β β¦ ββββββ
Of course, it was them after all, what else did you expect? Mango by the other side just shook his head and laughed
"Wow, and to think the dragon took three days to write that-" You raised an eyebrow at the sentence
"Really?" You asked, it was kinda funny to imagine, you thought maybe they would've been trying to write something not to dry but not more polite than needed, who knows? Maybe they even used three pages of that fancy paper to manage and decide what to write, with that thought you gave Mango a signal to follow you and entered your house followed by him, taking a page of a notebook you wrote:

You showed Mango the letter and he smiled "I'll make sure they get the letter, but what if this time you use one of the birds to deliver it! That way you don't have to wait that much for me to get back" The idea wasn't bad at all so you accepted, nodding.
You actually managed to send the card to the island after a lot of effort and this time the response was almost immediate, you couldn't help but smile at the sound of the little bird chirping to announce its arrival, the letter this time was a bit more persistent.

I see.
And there's no way to take a
day off of your work? I'm sure
that being in the presence of a
powerful and noble being like
myself is more important
than some job that a simple
cookie can do.
Stop signing the letters, I know
who I'm talking to.

"Okay they definitely wants me to visit them but they're too prideful to admit it huh?" You said and wrote another simple letter

Fortunately there was no problem, your neighbors understood you had something to do and Mango Cookie could take you there, sooner than you expected you were walking on the beach of Pineapple isle, waiting for the said dragon to make their entrance, it seemed like you summoned them because after thinking that they made you came there for nothing you heard the sound of wings flapping and when you looked up there they were, arms crossed and a smug look in there face.
"Oh but you were so busy right?" Ananas said, still in the air, they seemed like they've won the lottery by making you come there.
"You were the one insisting so that means you wanted me to come, I have another thing to ask though, is it true that you took all that time to write a letter?"
"No it isn't! Mango Cookie couldn't leave because of the waves so I used the time to rewrite it" With that answer you smiled and made a fake thinking face.
"But.. You can control the waves"
"..." That took them by surprise as they landed, still with their arms crossed "I only do it when necessary"
"Oh but when me, Milk and Dino-sour were heading back you made the wav-" You got interrupted by Ananas' tail, the tail hitting your feet and making you fall to the ground "Ouch-"
"Keep quiet next time, I might tolerate you but I'm still superior than you" The dragon was embarrassed and you knew it, they always made eye contact but this time they looked at the sky.
"Tolerating each other is a step before friendship isn't it?" You insisted, getting up and dusting your clothes off, they scoffed but didn't said no either.
As time passed by you got to know them quite well, the dragon wasn't so harsh once you've passed time with them, a little hard to deal with their ego? Yeah but once you got used to it was not that bad, as long as you didn't insulted them of course it would be fine.
When you couldn't visit them Ananas would sent you letters and letters.. Tons of them, to the point that you wished you didn't show them how to send their own birds but deep inside you thought the detail was nice. Sometimes they even accepted to carry you and fly with you, it was a nice experience, flying with them was something amazing even though they would sometimes fake-drop you to scare you.
Another bird started to chirp in your window, you opened it and took the letter.. Of course it was from them, with a sigh you opened it and immediately the red started to take over your cheeks at a point where they looked similar to a tomato, so without hesitation you took your backpack already prepared and ran over to Mango's place in the beach.
ββββββ β¦ β β¦ ββββββ
You really are my favorite.
I have something prepared
in the isle, we could do some
of the things normal cookies
do.. If you tell anyone then
I'll make sure to send you one
hundred letters just to annoy
you.. You're warned dear

Helloo !!
I saw Aphelion on your list and i ran to ask you about it. Can you tell me more please ?
Helloooooo!! (You can't see me but I waved at the screen.)
Thanks for swinging by, anon! And thank you a billion times over for asking about Aphelion and for being so patient while this next part slowly comes together one word at a time. I know I keep saying it's almost ready for me to send off to @something-tofightfor for the co-editing/additions phase, but this time it's REALLY almost ready. Sitting at juuuuuust over 9k words at the moment and looking like it's gonna come skidding in at around 12k, so it's the home stretch for sure!
This part has A LOT of really important information and very important dialogue and visually important moments featuring Oberyn + weaponry, and I can't wait to be able to share it.
Here's a little snippet from Part Ten:
βIt isnβt talk,β Tyrion countered. βBut it is powerful.β He interlaced his fingers, placing his joined hands on the tabletop. βUnlike my father who has always measured power in coin, or my sister who counts it in cruelty, or even my brother with all of his ridiculous bravado, I have always known that true power lies elsewhere entirely.βΒ
βIs that so?β Oberyn asked with a contemplative tilt of his head. Tyrion raised a brow and lowered his chin. βAnd where is it that you have found power, then?βΒ
Leaning forward, the other man grinned. βIn knowing things, Prince Oberyn. And in knowing the right people.β He brought his fingertips to his chest. βI know things.β Circling his hands outwardΒ to the group gathered around the table, he made sure to make brief eye contact with everyone - including you. βAnd you are the right people to share those things with.βΒ
βNow is not the time to play coy with us, Lannister.β Ellariaβs tone was serious, but not harsh. βIf you have something to say, speak.βΒ
Tyene clicked her tongue and reached to snatch another piece of pineapple from the tray. βSheβs right, Tyrion. Enough with the opening statements, this isnβt an HBO courtroom drama.β Despite the tension that hummed around the table, you had to hold back a snort of laughter. She took a bite of the fruit she held, chewing through her next words before popping the rest of the bright yellow chunk into her mouth. βTell them what you told me.β Shooting her eyes over to meet first with Ellariaβs, and then with Oberynβs, she swallowed the bite she took. βTrust me, itβs worth it.β
--
Thanks again for asking about this one, anon!! It's the document I have open tonight, and the one I am the most dedicated to at the moment! I hope it will be worth the wait!!

ivy has undergone a lot of rotation lately in my mind palace so i had to get these all out before i forgot them
i totally put her pineapple allergy in the wrong place LMAO i filled this out at 11pm...i was tired...she has an oral allergy for a lot of fruits but specifically pineapples and kiwis. her food allergies aren't as dire as kaya's so she can & will try more space foods! just can't trust the fruits </3
her main vice would be uhhh adrenaline rush. likes a fight. enjoys physical activities that are a little extreme (skydiving, rock/mt/free climbing etc). stuff like that. she's not a gym rat but she IS very physically active for multiple days of the week. willingness to escalate conflict is a problem for her lol
i wrote that ivy's an emancipated minor but i was actually thinking of something else, i just forgot what the term for it was. when you graduate early from hs...it might also be something she did in addition to that, but i have to like. think about it some more. in any case she has a rly good relationship with her moms & sister, she just really wanted to be independent at 16 and honestly whatever the social/economic situation is on earth in the year of VLD, i'm sure she could make it on her own for a year or two.
her living situation is that pre-S1 she's living with her sister in an apt but she also has a camper on her truck that she lives in sometimes when she's feeling crowded (sister's gf visits a lot and is thinking of moving in). ivy has a couple of jobs- she works night/3rd shift at a gas station in spring/summer, she usually works food service in the winter, and she's a trail guide in the fall.

Sonic Quilford AU 6, because even if it's with myself, I wanna talk about this still
8 years before CD, the people of Little Planet ended up learning of their potential doom at the hands of Robotnik and decided to trust what time lends them(an 11 yo who runs fast)
Silver remembers every timeline after his original. Starting during Future #7(In between Colors(DS) and Forces(because, since Amy "dies" during Lost world, it can't make a timeline that can safely make Silver, as he's descended from her)), he started running into or seeking out Future!Shadow, who is sometimes accompanied by Omega and descendants of other members of the cast
Sonic's only raised 3 chao. A Hero Swim/Power chao he called Waterwall during the Chaos Incident(Adventure 1), A Red Two-Tone Neutral Fly/Fly Chao he adopted and decided to name Nightgown(because she was wearing a smock) after Heroes to get Shadow's sudden revival off his mind, and a Purple Two-Tone Dark Chaos Chao he named(as a joke... at first) Solaris after his vacation(and temporary death) in Soleanna('06). He loves all three of them and has it in his loose will that, once Silver's born and not a toddler, is their guardian
G.U.N. has Sonic down in their files as a "tentative ally", as they don't really trust him, due to his habit of not listening to authority or taking orders. When not taking orders from The President, their plan is neutralize him via containment so Robotnik has less incentive to do something wild the next time he seeks to take over the world/build his theme park. To this end, they have tried to find where he lives(Tails' Lab House, which is as hard to break into as the average Eggman Fortress), where he's from(Depending on how you look at it, either Lune or Christmas Island), and how to take away his speed(not an easy feat, as it would currently require corrupted Chaos Energy(because the Emeralds like him))
When they were younger, Sonic, Mighty, and Ray were considered Garland Town's biggest troublemakers, with their peak being when, for Christmas day when Mighty was 10, Sonic 9, and Ray 8, they strung up everyone's Christmas Lights to a generator and a Sonic-sized hamster wheel, and shouted about it at 5 minutes to dawn, while demonstrating their crowning jewel, the mayor's star-patterned underwear atop an Ornema Tree(Mighty put them there)
The Chaos Emeralds are slightly larger than a baseball. The Super Emeralds are the size of watermelons. The Elemental Citrines are 7.5'' x 5
Even after the destruction of the Black Arms, Shadow keeps two pistols in his quills when he feels unsafe for emergencies. When in a bind, Rouge has grabbed one of them out of his quills, though he asks she only grab the right one, as he's left-handed
Sonic's preferred beverage in the morning is orange-lemon tea. Tails, after worrying he was turning into his parents(Abaddon and Florance) found he liked coffee. Knuckles, after finding the fruits on Angel Island, makes home-made mango-pineapple juice(straight juice, no sugar) that he stores in Ice Cap
After developing his crush, Vector's lovey-dovey moments where he's lost in romantic thoughts were dubbed the "Vanilla Zone" by Charmy, since that tended to be his answer to anything asked while he's in such a state. The only other people who have seen the Vanilla Zone are Espio(the three live together. Of course he's seen Vector in the mushy state), Mighty(They were discussing Mother's Day, and Vector just kinda slipped into it), and Gemerl(He was asking what Vector wanted in his coffee, and was told "Vanilla~". Luckily for the crocodile, Vanilla and Cream were in the other room when this slip-up happened)

In My Mind (Part 3)
Only warning is mild language. I'm not sure how many more parts will come. Maybe 3. Maybe 6. We'll see.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"How do we find someone without a face, a name, or an idea where they went. It's been two days she could be anywhere. It's like chasing a ghost." "We don't." You eye him carefully and he clarifies, "She found you before. If she has something to say, she'll find you again." Erik didn't seem the type to let something like this hang unattended so why would he move on from this so easily? Maybe there really was nothing else you could do to find her.
"Assuming she was real," he adds, "We need to consider illogical options since this is an illogical situation." You continue to stare at him. He was calm and handling all the 'weirdness' gracefully. "If you're okay, I'm okay," you say and you get a text. It's from Lia. You have a braiding appointment and your last customer is there waiting. You'd forgotten all about her. "Shit! I gotta go back to the salon. I forgot I had one more client." He slips his shoes back on and downs the rest of the water in his glass. You walk out to the living room leaving him behind and as you open the front door you hear him move fast to the kitchen putting the glass in your kitchen sink and he jets ahead of you pulling you by your hand down the staircase and down to the ground floor where you exit. He doesn't free your hand once you emerge. "Uh uh, what you coming with me for?" He pulls you to his car and closes you in, clicking your seatbelt. "You gone keep that lady waiting," he chides stopping your protests. He drops behind the wheel and speeds off shortening the already short trip back to the salon. The second the car goes into park, you leap out unsteadily and he follows as you burst through the salon door. "I'm late, I'm so sorry. I'll dock $10 from your total." You look up and instantly drop the keys in your hand on the floor. "It's you," you gape and the woman smiles in response to your surprise. You turn to Erik and he's gone. Everyone else is gone. It's just you and this mysterious lady in the empty shop that's gone dead silent.
"Nia," her warm voice echoes and you feel peace and calm radiating from her form. Her eyes are tender and full of kindness. "Nia, I have been sent by your God to guide you. You have been graced with a great gift to assist with your great purpose, and now you must demonstrate your capability." God sent? Is she an angel? You notice her shadow looks nothing like her, it has six arms and large wings. "Help N'jadaka. Help him find peace. Do this and then your purpose will be revealed." "N'jadaka? Oh, Erik. But how? What do I do?" "How'd you know that name?" You turn around and it's Erik looking at you like you've lost your mind. When you turn back the woman is gone. You grab his forearms. "Tell me you saw her." He squints and shakes his head. "I saw you drop your keys and freeze, then you said my name. What she say?" From the corner of your eye Glenda is staring at you this time blatantly. "I'm fine, just dropped my keys. Clumsy, you know," you offer with a matching clumsy shrug and she doesn't seem to buy it. "I thought you were going home. What you doing back?" The second part of that seemed to be aimed at Erik. She doesn't trust him, it's clear. You look at Lia and she's shaking her head. "I already cornrowed your client, remember? You done for the day. Go home. Get some sleep, you definitely need it." She turns her attention to Erik, "Iunno who YOU are and why y'all so close all of a sudden, but make sure she gets some sleep."
---
"They think I'm fuckin crazy," you groan from the passenger seat. You're holding on tightly to your seat as the car moves aggressively. Erik had taken it upon himself to drive while you told him about your encounter with the mysterious woman. He passed your apartment complex giving you more time to talk while he rode around. He didn't want you to leave a thing out.
"So you supposed to be my psychologist.. Help me find myself and shit," he mumbles and you're also not sold. It sounds ridiculous. "I don't know, but apparently you need peace because you don't have it. So let's just work on that." The car turns onto a highway and you watch the signs before turning to look at Erik's face. He's just chillin on the surface.
"You're taking me somewhere aren't you." "Yep." "Where?" "What that sign say?" You look at the upcoming sign that says EXIT and has a bunch of fast food and restaurant logos. Thank God, because you could eat a cow. He pulls into a restaurant called Bear's Den. It's a black owned restaurant, you think. When you enter, a lot of the staff is black and the menu is so country. It's comforting. Erik orders lemon pepper chicken with a salad and fruit cup. You order chicken and dumplings with a pineapple casserole, something you'd never had before. You let Erik try the casserole, but he wasn't feeling it like you were. You mostly ate in comfortable silence with minimal verbal conversation. However, nonverbals were high as you exchanged meaningful glances and facial expressions. He was trying to read you and you were trying to understand him. He requested the check and rejected your money when you offered to pay for yourself, which was perfectly fine by you. You'd eaten your fill for free. "Go to the bathroom before we leave to go back. You drank a lot," he says and you raise your brow. "I'm appreciative that you bought me dinner, but that's a little too personal for you to be worrying about." "And my dreams and my life ain't personal?" He shoots back. "I didn't invade your mind on purpose though." He nods in the direction of the restroom and you roll your eyes. Raising from your seat you walk to the rustic multi-stall restroom and actually empty your bladder. Maybe it was good that you went. When you resurface, he's not in the restaurant and you walk out to find him in the car. Buckling yourself in, you brace yourself for his crazy driving and somehow, you still aren't prepared. Then you notice that this is not... the direction of your apartment. "Where we going now?" The car moves aggressively and quickly further away from home and he takes his sweet time responding, apparently in no rush.
"Airport."
Airport.. Airport?
"The fuck? You leaving so soon?" He couldn't leave! You still hadn't figured anything out. "You're coming with me." "The hell I am." "You gone help me or not?" His volume is rising. He's serious. "How long? I need to talk to cancel my appointments." "Indefinitely, for now." "FUCK.. this..," you trail off angrily tapping at your phone screen. How selfish of him to expect you to uproot your life, possibly lose your client base, and follow him to tend to his mental health issues. You said you would help him, but you meant on your terms, not his. "Do you understand that I have bills, shop fees, clients, and in short.. a life outside of this? Do you not care?" His shoulders roll and and he takes the exit to the airport. "I got you. Don't worry about it." He's so cryptic. 'Don't worry about it,' right.. You go through your Styleseat and cancel everything, silently fuming. He'd better 'have you' or there'd be hell to pay. Trained killer be damned.
---
"So you're just gonna leave your car?" "It was a rental," he chuckles. "When did you buy me a plane ticket?" He ignores you, but this ticket says you're going to Oakland, California. You'd never been to the west coast, but now you're placing his accent. He drags you past security and you have no luggage, but they wand you briefly. You have to take your shoes off too. Then you board and he gives you the window seat, which you're grateful for.
The fluffy cotton clouds are so full, they look like you could jump onto them, wrap yourself up and sleep. But the sky is darkening rapidly so the sights are getting increasingly tougher to see, clouds included.
"While you're playing shrink with my PTSD, I want to test this ability of yours some more." That doesn't sound promising. You face him and that familiar feeling of trouble washes over you. He plans on using you for personal gain, IF he can get a handle on how your newfound ability works. It's disheartening, but you hold the cards. "Erik, I told you everything I knew about the situation. This isn't something you can manipulate to work how you want." His small dark eyes narrow and shoot darts through yours. You don't waver. You can see his complicated mind scheming behind those eyes, but then they soften. "Lotta people sleep on this plane. Try to get in someone's head. If you can't, it's okay but just try." He's not going to leave you alone about this. You close your eyes and draw a deep breath in, releasing a long breath through your nose. You relax yourself in your seat and rest your head against the window. You push all thoughts away, trying to make things as silent as possible and then you focus. You're searching for a vibration, a visual, a feeling. Everything goes black and then it suspends.
Black. Black. Black. A sunny field of white lillies. "Nia, wake up we here." Your head snaps up and you open your eyes willing them to focus. You watch Erik put away earbuds and pocket his phone. People are standing in the aisle with luggage waiting to exit and you jump up. "Erik, you didn't sleep did you?" "Nah, but you did for three and a half hours." Your eyes search for who it could've been, but there's no way to tell. No one's wearing lilly printed clothing afterall. But then an elderly white man stands in the row behind you and Erik and it looks like he could've been sleep. "I saw something" you tap Erik as it's your turn to exit the plane, and he follows your eyes to the old man. Awe lights his face but then a dark glee darkens it. He pulls you behind him off the plane by your wrist and you wait behind him until the old man appears. "Ask him what he dreamed about," he whispers hurriedly in your ear. "You ask him!" "If I ask him he gone see nigga and have a heart attack. You ask him."
Rolling your eyes, you fix a faux sweet look on your face and jog lightly up to the old man, gently grabbing his attention. "Excuse me sir, this is an odd question, I know, but.. did you happen to dream of a sunny field of white lillies?" Your eyes plead your silent apology and his look baffled. He shakes his head subtly and doesn't respond, but his surprise tells you that's exactly what he dreamed of. His pink finger points at you. "How did you know? Are you a magician?" She shake your head and walk away rejoining Erik. You grab his arm leading him past the old man who is still staring at you in confusion. "He dreamt of lillies. I saw it. It was him," you whisper. The corner of Erik's mouth lifts and his eyes shine, but he says nothing else. "I know what you're planning," you whisper still clutching his arm because he hadn't pushed you off. "Do you," he toys. "I don't know the specifics, but I can tell you I'm not helping you profit off of me." "What if I just want you to profit? You don't like money?" "This is a gift from God. I won't abuse It! You're gonna heal and find peace and then I'm a figure out some deeper purpose. Stick to the plan.. N'jadaka." That name earned a light humored jolt out of him. He likes that name. "Is that a chosen or a given name?" "Given." You watch his face for more information knowing he can feel your stare, but putting two and two together you think it goes back to his parents. "I'll tell you more when we get to my place. You'll see it all anyway."

Fifty Three - Iquitos
After a restless night we both were awake very early so took the opportunity to get up and get to our destination for the morning early. Our activity for the day was something I'd been looking forward to for so long and was one of the major factors of us going to the Amazon from Iquitos. The place was called Isla de Los Monos and was a rescue and rehabilitation centre for monkeys.
As we'd trialled the route before (when we were trying to work out how to get there) we knew exactly where to go. We walked through the busy fruit market to the rickety dock area full of planks of wood precariously nailed together to form platforms. Entering these docks was like going into a film where we were definitely 'not from around these parts'. People were going around their daily business and it felt like a world away from what we knew.
We found the boats and luckily there were two spare seats on one so we didn't have to wait and immediately we were off. The boat was noisy and crammed with people. I tried not to think about how dangerous it was and instead enjoyed the view of the passing land and fishing boats.
After around 20 minutes the boat stopped and a couple got off. I saw a sign proclaiming 'Isla de Los Monos' and we quickly struggled through people to get to the front, lucky for us as the boat was about to head off to whatever the next destination was.
On land we found the very muddy trail to the centre and were glad we'd decided to wear our jungle gear, watching another couple struggle with their trainers. Five minutes in we quickly got on our long sleeve tops as we were being bitten by mosquitos. We couldn't put on any repellent or sun cream as it's toxic to the monkeys so we came prepared.
After twenty minutes of walking we came to an open area with some wooden structures. Following the signs instructions we walked to the purple hut and were met by a man who owned the centre. While he was explaining what the centre does and the monkeys they had I could make out something moving by his feet. I got excited thinking it might be a dog but when I moved closer I saw a monkey!!! I bent down and saw a tiny Saki monkey playing and being completely adorable. The man explained how when she arrived her coxis was broken and she had a bullet in her. Apparently people hunt Saki monkeys to make feather dusters from their bushy tails. I will never get over how cruel and desperate humans can be.
I didn't want to leave the Saki monkey but soon our guide arrived and we had to follow him. We went outside, walked to some trees and immediately we could see black bodies above and around us. Little wooly monkeys scampered in the trees, playing with each other and coming down for food on the feeding platform. It was completely amazing and I wanted to cry. Our guide told us how all the monkeys could roam wherever they wanted on the 40 hectare island. They'd all been rescued from the pet or meat trade and were young. When they got to around four years old they'd be taken somewhere without human contact so they could then release them.
The monkeys came down for food and weren't phased by us at all. They occasionally reached out a hand to us to touch us which was completely magical. Their fur was so soft and wooly (funny that!). They were unbelievably cute, so much like a child's drawing of a monkey.
After a while another couple joined us and while they did another breed of monkey came down. A tiny red baby howler monkey that was so timid and so cute. Our guide pointed over in the distance and said there was another. But this one was on the back of one of the other young wooly monkeys as it walked over to us. The wooly monkey had adopted the baby howler monkey and it made my heart swell, it was one of the cutest things I've ever seen!!!
As the monkeys got more comfortable with us they started to use us as climbing frames to jump onto trees or play fight together. Soon Mike had a wooly monkey on him and I had the timid baby howler monkey wrapped around me, watching the woolys from a safe distance. I couldn't believe it was happening and how the little monkeys trusted us and wanted to be with us already. It was the most amazing thing ever.
Although I didn't want to leave the troop of monkeys our guide led us through to the jungle trail. While we were walking some of the wooly monkeys followed us and before we knew it Mike had one on his head while walking. The guide told us because they didn't have mothers they needed love and also liked to hitch a ride. The monkey loved Mike and did not want to get off (at one point I was so jealous Mike said I could have a turn holding it but it clung onto Mike so we let it be). We walked along the trail like this with the baby monkey grabbing leaves to eat on the way.
It wasn't long before another wooly monkey had jumped onto me and was sat on my shoulders like a toddler. The weight of the monkey and the way it's tail wrapped around my arm like another hand was so unbelievably lovely I was again close to tears. So there we were walking through the forest with our new monkey babies. As we walked we saw other monkeys, a mix of wild and rescued that weren't as clingy as the woolys. We saw white crested marmosets, a lonely tiki that was abandoned by its troop and the tiniest of all the primates, pygmy marmosets - the size of my palms (which are tiny enough!).
As we walked my wooly monkey started to lick my face. I asked our guide if it was OK and he said she's just licking the salt. Well she was in for a feast with my sweaty head. While others might be disgusted with this I absolutely loved it. I could feel her tiny warm breath as she licked, smelling a bit like green tea.
We continued to walk to the end of the trail but before we got there my little monkey gestured to the floor. I assumed she wanted a leaf as she had been doing this the whole walk but I looked down to see a big snails shell on the forest floor. I bent down and she reached out to pick it up. I soon realised the shell was full of water and she wanted to drink it! She proceeded to do this pouring the water all over my head while trying.
Feeling like one of the troop we walked over to some more monkeys, a bigger Saki monkey, little tamarins and another red tiki. The woolys and the tiki took it in turns to climb onto our shoulders until Mike and I had both felt the little red tiki around our shoulders like a scarf. It was completely amazing to see all these breeds together and so close. I can't describe how happy I was.
Finally our walk came to an end and we had to let the monkeys go. Safe to say I really didn't want to. I kept saying to Mike, can't we stay? Do you think we can pay more and hang out with the woolys some more? Luckily I had the baby Saki monkey in the hut to take my mind off that fact that we had to leave. I consoled myself with the fact that we'd had this most amazing experience and we can't stay longer as it wouldn't be good for the monkeys.
The whole morning was maybe my best morning ever. I've always loved animals and this felt like a combination of that deep seated love and my maternal instincts melding together to make one giant emotion. It's amazing I didn't explode. It's kind of pathetic but I can't believe how much I loved those baby monkeys and how much I felt like I needed to care for them. Plus they were so soft.
Walking back to the boat I felt an absolute mix of emotions - complete euphoria at having seen and held the monkeys, complete sadness at having to leave them and an overwhelming anger at the greedy humans that had harmed them. I could see they were being well looked after so that was the only consolation.
The boat ride back went quickly and we got back to the hostel, showered and sorted out our very muddy clothes. After we went out for lunch, repeatedly looking at our photos and videos of the morning not quite believing how lucky we were.
We spent the afternoon relaxing at the hostel before heading back out for dinner. That night we went to a local place that served kebabs. When we arrived we were shown a fridge full of different kebabs that we could choose from. We opted for some fish, stuffed peppers, potato and cheese with pineapple. Each one came with vegetables and a salad and were delicious!
To finish off one of my best days of the whole trip we went to the ice cream place and got ice cream smothered in chocolate sauce. What a day!
