Maknaes.

elsy + yugbam

elsy decides to take out her two favorite maknaes to celebrate their solo debuts.

“thanks for joining me, I’m sure the two are going to be happy to see you.” elsy smiled at chan. the two were sat first row of a balcony waiting for Bambam and yugyeom to perform. it had been awhile since the girl last saw them and thought going to their music show was the perfect opportunity since both boys would be there.

she was definitely proud that they finally had their solo debut and showed up for support just like the two did when elsy debuted for solo. it was great seeing her members doing their own thing.

“it’s not a problem, I’ve been wanting to see them for the longest now too.” chan giggled. “you know, since the three of you left me all alone in the company.”

elsy’s mouth fell open as she let out a laugh. “you’re not alone! you have your members and sana and chaeyoung and momo and, god who else are you friends with?”

“if I could be friends with everyone, I would.”

“well aren’t you such a social butterfly.” elsy jokingly rolled her eyes.

chan tsked at the girl. “hey don’t roll your eyes at me just because you had no friends back then besides me.”

elsy gasped out loud as chan burst into laughter. “I’m joking, I’m joking!” he giggled. “I’ll make you feel better by saying you were definitely my favorite.”

“okay, maybe that does make feel a little better.” elsy crossed her arms as she plopped back against her seat. then the lights had became a little dim, meaning someone was going to perform soon.

“it’s starting.” elsy grabbed on chan’s arm. “who do you think is first?”

before chan could answer the question, the lights had shown at the person on stage which ended up being yugyeom. elsy began smiling harder when seeing her younger member ready to perform. “aw! it’s my yugyeomie!”

elsy was too tranced into yugyeom’s performance as she smiled widely at him. she never once took her eyes away from yugyeom until gray had popped up to do his verse and yugyeom had left for a quick second. before she could think about it, the words were already leaving her mouth. “my god, gray is so good looking.”

chan snapped his head towards elsy, brows furrowing. “excuse me? I’m right here.”

elsy slowly turned her attention to chan, realizing what she had truly said. “oh, yeah. my bad.” she chuckled. “but he is very good looking!”

“okay, I’m shutting you out now.”

elsy ignored chan, bringing her attention back to the performance just when yugyeom had hopped back in. and soon it was over and elsy began to clap loudly. “ah, that was amazing! I’m so proud of him.” elsy smiled.

next to perform was bambam, which elsy was really hyped about seeing. especially when she was the first person to watch and listen to bambam’s debut song. it was a very special moment and she was just as proud of bambam like she was with yugyeom.

during his performance, chan had came close to elsy’s ear. “isn’t it a little funny how both of them have different vibes to their songs and performance?” he slightly wheezed.

elsy nodded, never taking her eyes off bambam. “I thought the same when I saw yugyeom’s video.” she said. “really shows their true color. to be honest, in all of us.” thinking about it, almost everyone in her group had something different when it came to their individual. where it was the sound or something else, elsy had noticed it a lot when going their separate ways for the time being.

it was like they had found their true self but when being together, it just seemed to work. and elsy couldn’t help but to want to feel working with her members again. but she knew they were doing absolutely great on their own.

by the time the performance was over and bambam was leaving the stage, chan stood up and looked back at elsy, lending out his hand for her. “I’m guessing you’d like to see them now.”

“of course!” elsy stood up excitedly and as she was walking the mc’s had mention about 2pm coming soon with their comeback. which of course, grabbed elsy’s attention, causing her to come to a halt. “2pm?!” she gasped. “nichkhun?! I have to come back and see them!”

“elsy, come on!” chan dragged the girl away before she could start fangirling. the boy shook his head, knowing how much of a fan elsy was of 2pm since she was a trainee. and he definitely knew about her little crush on nichkhun. “but nichkhun.” she pouted, looking back to see his picture show up.

“it’s like you’re forgetting I’m your boyfriend or something?” chan laughed, looking back at elsy. he still had a tight hold on her wrist.

“of course not.” she reassured. “no one could ever replace you. not even nichkhun.” elsy mumbled the last part but chan had heard her loud and clear.

the two had entered the hallway of where both yugyeom and bambam’s dressing room was located. and they could they had caught them right on time. “yugyeomie! bam!” elsy called out, grabbing their attention.

elsy had opened her arms out for a hug when seeing them jog towards her. but the two boys ended up passing her, going straight to chan. “my boy, chris!” bambam shouted. “bang chan! thanks for coming!” yugyeom shouted after. the three of them were in a group hug all while elsy stared at them in disappointment. she let out a fake cough to grab their attention.

“oh, hey noona, didn’t see you there.” yugyeom joked, going in to finally hug elsy.

“funny.” she scoffed. “but if it wasn’t for me, bang chan wouldn’t have been here.” elsy narrowed her eyes. but then they softened when she went in to hug bambam and yugyeom at the same time. “I’m so proud of you two. you guys did so good.” she kissed them on the side of their heads.

“woah watch it there, noona.” yugyeom smirked. “don’t want to make chan jealous of us two.”

elsy stared at yugyeom before smacking him behind his head. “you fool.” she said before going back to chan’s side and linking her arm with his. “I want him only.”

“well I had you first.”

everyone choked up a laugh, elsy shaking her head at her younger member. but then bambam had spoke up. “actually if you think about it, jin-“

“yeah, yeah, anyways!” elsy exclaimed before bambam could finish his sentence. “now that we’re here, I’m taking you guys out. as a celebration of your debuts.” she smiled at the two.

“free food from elsa?” bambam question with a smirk, making elsy drop her smile from the nickname. “I’m in.”

“I forgot to say, but congratulations on winning kingdom.” yugyeom said to chan. “the performances you guys had were insane.”

“ah.” chan chuckled after swallowing his food. “thank you.”

“and you noona, what have you been up to these days?”

elsy simply shrugged. “not much really. doing lots of online shopping if that counts as something.” she said. “and also hanging around with this guy.” the girl smiled, linking her arm with chan’s again.

“ew.” bambam made a face. elsy threw a small fry at him. which was no use because bambam ended up catching it in his mouth.

“no talks in comeback for you?”

“oh!” the girl exclaimed, looking at chan. “now that you mentioned it, yes. I’m slowly preparing for a comeback. we’re just in talks right now.”

“ugh, I’m excited for it.” she squealed.

“damn, we barely made our debuts and you’re already on a comeback. you work fast, elsa.”

“I mean, I did have my debut in like the beginning of the year.”

“yeah, and it was only a few months since you had left the company.” yugyeom said.

elsy shrugged. “then I guess you’re right. maybe I do work fast.”

chan had intertwined his fingers with elsy’s under the table. “do you have like a date or month of when your comeback will take place?” he questioned.

“probably around august.” she answered which caused chan’s eyes to light up. “so around the time my group has our comeback too.”

elsy softly gasped. “yes. that means we’ll get to see each other in music shows.” she ran a hand through chan’s hair.

the two boys in front of them let out a fake cough, catching their attention. “I mean if you wanted this to be a double date, you should of just asked, lee elsy.”

“sorry.” she laughed. “let’s go back to celebrating.” as soon as the words left her mouth, their waiter had came back to their table with four shot glasses filled with alcohol.

“I’m not drinking this.” chan slightly chuckled.

“aw come on man!” yugyeom exclaimed. “you have to.”

“I’m not a drinker.”

“your girlfriend is.” bambam pointed out when seeing elsy gulped down the shot in no time, not even waiting for bambam and yugyeom.

“here.” bambam said, giving elsy chan’s shot glass. “drink chan’s too. show my boy chris the real you when you’re drunk. drink it, drink it now.”

“bambam!” elsy shouted but still took the drink from him. “it’s just a celebration shot. to my favorite maknaes, and your debuts.” she raised the small glass and took the second shot that belonged to chan.

“look at you!” yugyeom laughed. “you can’t even wait for us.”

what kind of music do you listen??? thats kinda personal question but i'm just curious like bands, groups, genres, your fav songs or some recommendations :) I need to update my playlists

... anon you underestimate just how weird my music taste is. Spotify Wrapped isn't fun for me at all, it's just me getting roasted. There's just no way to feel good about yourself after learning that you spent eighteen hours listening to the same four Kalafina songs (Kalafina being a popular Japanese band who do a lot of anime theme songs. Before you ask, yes those four songs where anime theme songs...).

In 2020 I was among the 0.005% percentile of top listeners to Florence and the Machine. So anything Florence and the Machine goes. Check out the rarer tracks, though, Ceremonials was a great album but she has a lot of other stuff that's just as good, if not better. (I feel the need to say this because I only ever see people linking to Ceremonials, or Lungs.)

For several years in a row I've been among the top 1% listeners to the alternative rock band Kaizer's Orchestra. Every time I think I'm cured I listen to Begravelsespolka again and bam, we're jamming.

I would be amiss not to mention Queen. This playlist is great, and my recommendation (though I had to make own spinoff playlist because they keep changing and shuffling it).

2019, I had just discovered Jesus Christ Superstar, and, uh. I'll let this image speak for itself:

(Fun fact, @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin listened to JSC when she wrote The Unwinding Golden Thread. Reading it, you can tell.)

I'm a musical fan in general. Special shoutouts go to Phantom of the Opera (this recording being my preference), The Fiddler on the Roof, Hamilton, french Les Misérables (which for the record is much more accurate to the book. Used to be on spotify, disappeared), and The Prince of Egypt.

Apart from that we have a lot of anime OSTs. Fate/Zero (there was a video that had all the soundtracks, youtube ate it. I'm still in mourning), Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Revolutionary Girl Utena (I'm linking three videos for Utena because I have yet to find a playlist that has every piece of soundtrack in one place) are probably my top three.

I'm weak for Eminem.

Eurovision too, I unironically listen to Eurovision songs.

Louis Attaque is a French folk rock group I sometimes remember exists. If I'm not careful, I'll listen to nothing else for a month.

All chapters of Kingdom of Heaven were written to Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.

Nebuchadnezzar's Dream has largely been written to anime OSTs, though the most recent chapter needed thematically correct background music so things got Christian. My favorite psalm, Puccini's Messa di Gloria (with heavy emphasis on Credo), and the Norwegian composer Knut Nystedt at his absolute angstiest each got a lot of mileage. For the next and last chapter I'm listening to the beautiful soundtrack Emilie Simon made for La Marche de L'Empereur because goddamnit, penguin music can be inspirational too!

Apart from that I'm a slut for movie OSTs, John Williams especially, Peer Gynt with vocals, and 90's rock band Garbage.

the way i see it, if kuroo is crushing on anybody it’ll most likely be on someone he’s either been close to for a while now or someone who’s really caught his attention in a big boom bam kind of way

when it came to you, it was a mix of both

he knew you from class but never really talked to you since there wasn’t any reason to

but then one 2 am ramen venture in the nearest 7/11 later, the two of you officially met

it was so weird for you to see a classmate in the same convenient store at 2 in the morning buying hot patches and gatorade

you: so are you a really energetic murderer or is that for the volleyball thing

kuroo: somewhere along both but i keep the volleyball part a secret

kuroo was certain that the minute those words came out of your mouth he was GONE

a one way ticket to having the fattest crush on you

he only wanted to get something for the cold since he couldn’t fall asleep and instead he’s met someone from class who’s way too cute in pajamas with yakult and ramen on hand

kuroo: i’ve never had that kind of ramen before

you: if you don’t murder me then i’ll share

kuroo, smiling: you took out the best part

you: i am the best part

after that night, kuroo’s pretty sure that you singlehandedly derailed his thoughts and emotions in a snap

he’d see you wave at him in the halls and sometimes when he’s not too busy you’d let him sit with you at lunch

it was definitely weird to be friends with him since he’s never really talked to you before but the day you two exchanged numbers and the first thing he sent you was a tiktok, you knew how much you’d like being close to him

you’d spent nights on end facetiming or sending each other funny links and tiktoks and it always felt like you could talk about anything

lots of repeats of 2 am in the same 7/11 spot where you two had your first encounter and each time it’s just get more and more memorable

kuroo: the more i see you, the more tired you look

you: i told my aunt who has a modeling agency about you ❤️ she said no 😌

you two became best friends in no time and even though you told him countless times how much you hated the smell of sweat and getting hit in the face by a ball you never failed to attend all his practices and matches

kuroo: no

kenma: are you lying

kuroo, sighing: i wish :/

when kenma pointed out the obvious that you two should be dating, he was just hit with an overwhelming feeling in his chest

he thought about it and honestly? the more he did the more he felt like he didn’t have a shot

you were so nice and kind, the teacher’s go to when they need help, and he’s basically seen you turn down 2 guys in the midst of walking home together

yaku: we know you’re lame and stuff but shoot your shot y’know

kuroo: how am i friends with you

so one day he decides that he’s just had about enough from staring at you from afar !!! he’s gonna try his luck and if he strikes out then so be it

it was 3 in the afternoon and they didn’t have practice so he asked you to come over— which at this point, something you did every so often

it was chill at first, the two of you watching a movie in the living room together but then he gets up from his seat

a goofy smile on his face as he says, “let’s make a tiktok,”

you’re confused but you agree nonetheless

the two of you have made tiktoks in the past but they usually stayed in the drafts because you never could get past one without breaking into laughter

he never told you the sound or what tiktok to make but as he put his phone against the kitchen cupboard a smile immediately broke into your face

you look at him and he’s anxious which by nature also made you anxious

the audio played and you really didn’t recognize it, you curse yourself for being so out of loop in the latest fyp trends

he stares at the camera as the song played and you’re unsure of what to do except laugh

he turns to you when the beat drops, and your smile becomes nervous with confused eyes

you are out of my league

he mouths along with the song, the smile on his face matching yours as you let out a brighter grin

you realize what he just said and you laugh, softly hitting his arm, “i am not!”

he pulls you into a hug as the video played, the song looping in the process

he’s laughing as he hugs you, “yes, you are.”

you look up at him, pressing a soft quick kiss on his lips and when you pull back, you’re sure he’s got the stupidest grin on his face

kuroo: i can’t believe we had our first kiss on camera

you: i can’t believe i kissed the lamest boy in school

iwaizumi hajime

being friends with iwaizumi immediately means being friends with oikawa too

it’s okay though, you love them both

you forgot when the three of you became that close but at one point in your life, two boys came running around your local playground and hit you with a ball and the rest was history

later on you guys find out that all three of your moms were close also and everything felt like it just clicked yk?

you go to school with them and it’s pretty ditzy how they force you to go to all their volleyball practices and tournaments

you: i don’t want to go

iwaizumi: but we’re not asking you to

oikawa: we’re TELLING you

you’re close to both of them in a level that they’re like your brothers and they knew that

oikawa was really flattered when you mentioned that and he went on and on about how he’s gonna be the best fake brother you can look up to

iwa however ? nah fam he was silent

and (unfortunately for him) oikawa noticed

iwaizumi wasn’t sure why he felt a bit uncomfortable when you told them how you thought of them as family but all he knew was that he had the most bothered look when you said it

oikawa: omfg you’ve got a crush this is so exciting

iwaizumi: a what

it didn’t surprise him that much when his friend told him the possibility of crushing on you because to be honest? it was weird enough to not like you like that

it takes a while for him to get used to the idea but then it clicks and he realizes

all the times he’d take off his jacket in the freezing weather just to give to you

the days when you’d fall asleep on the corner of the gym so he can walk you home

even those annoying 3 am starbucks trip you’d never stop bugging him about until he agrees

now he’s irritated and flustered because all this time when he felt an overwhelming urge to punch the guy that’s been relentlessly hitting on you it was actually because of what he felt about you

oikawa: nope that one was definitely your anger management issues

at this point everyone in the team basically knows about how hard he’s pining even when he’s sure it’s not that obvious?

and it’s true !! he’s really fricken discrete with the entire thing that you feel like he’s physically repulsed by the idea

he had a sharp tongue and he certainly didn’t hold back on comments but whenever you wouldn’t notice, he’d have a soft gaze at you matched with a tiny light red dusting across his face

kunimi and kindaichi had to tell him that if he didn’t do anything about his feelings he’d risk the chance of seeing you date someone else and Boy ! he did Not like that

some guy trying to ask you out: h–hey

iwaizumi, staring them down as he stands next to you:

the guy trying to ask you out: bro nvm lol

you were sick of it !!!!!!!!! even your guy friends were starting to get too scared to be seen with you and you’re just like ?????????

you: stop making my friends too scared to talk to me

iwaizumi, irritated: you said you saw me as an older brother, this is what they do !!

you: when i said that i obviously meant it as a joke ?? brothers are cool not MEAN

iwaizumi: wait what

HE !!!!!! was ecstatic !!! but in his own iwa way so he had to play it cool !!!!

this was it !! he finally had the chance to shoot his shot !!!

so before his confidence could water down, he texted you immediately if you’d be cool with him driving you to school tomorrow

you: omg iwa never offers to do that, thank you sm body snatching alien <3

iwaizumi: due to personal reasons i will be passing away

he arrives at your house at 7 and he’s very nervous because even though he has a plan on what to do, it’s your reaction he didn’t know how to handle

once you got in his car, you were suspiciously quiet and the brim of your nose was oddly coated in a red hue

before he starts to drive, you stop him, a shy smile on your face, one that is easily out favored by your mischievous one

“let’s make a tiktok,” you tell him, and if it was any other time he’d 100% tell you no, but it was 7 in the morning and the sun had just come up and you looked so adorable he just couldn’t resist

he looks aside, softly muttering, “fine.”

you put your phone on the dashboard of his car, softly pressing play as the song started

iwa recognized this song, in fact, he loved this song

he didn’t know much about tiktok but he was very familiar with the ones that oikawa would send him at 4 am

and one of them happened to be this exact trend

his face flushes a dark red as he realizes what you’re about to do and you’ve got a silly grin on your face as you’re looking at him

you are out of my league

you laugh as you mouth it, pointing to him when you looked at the camera again

he playfully rolls his eyes, nudging you a bit to look at him

“you’re so stupid,” he tells you with a smile and you’re still laughing from the song

the rest of the song plays, and he’s got his eyes on you the whole time like !!!!!

you spend the rest of the morning repeating the song over and over again and it’s just you and iwa pointing at each other whenever that specific line comes up it’s 🥺

when you arrive at school, before you unbuckle your seatbelt, he takes your hand and pulls you close, giving you a quick peck on the forehead

you: does this mean you’d finally go with me to starbucks whenever

iwaizumi: no but that’s a nice try ❤️

Music Shill of the Day: "JUDAS" by Lord of the Lost

PART 2 of 2: "SALVATION"

Welcome back to part 2 of me shilling the fuck out of Judas and telling you, the lucky reader, of why it's so great. If you didn't see part 1, here's a link. Beware, it's long as fuck. LINKS TO ALL SONGS WILL BE PROVIDED. All songs will be rated on a scale of 1-10; 1 - garbage. Horrible. Why did you let this leave the studio. 5 - average. Meh. Not horrible, but not impressive. 10 - fantastic. Thank you for this existing. I love this too much. I will make a final post about my overall thoughts separately as well as give the top 5 songs of the album. BUT FOR NOW, we venture ever onwards. STARTING WITH--

13. "The Gospel of Judas" - 9/10

Starting off EXTREMELY strong with a very excellent piece with a brilliant message.

These lads said "happy last day of Pride, please take this video and this song" and I say thank you because. Watch the video. Careful with some people malding over them becoming "political" by adding a pride flag in the comments (but there are plenty of responses shutting them down since LOTL has regularly been supportive of the LGBT+ community and very vocal about that support).

This song is meant for those who are outcasts in society for being who they are, whether it be from gender-based, sexuality-based, race-based, whatever. Great intention and a great message.

The song itself, I find myself liking the choruses more than the verses. I'm not a huge fan of the "Judas, Judas" parts, but it works well enough for the song. Not quite an absolute banger of a song, but still really fucking good.

14. "Viva Vendetta" - 9/10

This song is fascinating for two reasons. The first; it features a full 386 person choir. The second; its instrumental was given to 32 different artists, with no title attached, to see what they'd do with it. That's really fucking cool.

As for the actual piece, it has a very nice, flowy, bouncy beat all throughout. I like it. It's something to vibe to, most certainly. It has almost a bit of an 80s feel to it.

The instrumentals are very neat, with the guitars making a very nice sounding bassy groove. Though there does seem to be acoustics used throughout as well, and the occasional synth. Overall? Dope as fuck song. It's genuinely awesome. It slaps.

But. As much as it slaps. A challenger approaches. A song I had been anticipating for over 3 weeks since I heard the "Track by Track" 30s preview.

15. "Argent" - 11/10

Okay. Okay. I know. Priest? Slaps. Born with a Broken Heart? Beautiful. Death is Just a Kiss Away? Love the strings. But.

But, dear reader. Allow me to enlighten you as to why this is, in my humble opinion, the best song on the album.

Let us start with the wonderful, Arabian-sounding vocals to open it. And then the introduction of the piano, it begins to build. And build. And then the guitars and the drums kick in, along with that industrial sound in the back.

It keeps growing and growing, then it begins to cool for the verse. Everything is still there, just waiting. Slowly, everything keeps growing in intensity. It builds and builds along with the vocals of the first verse.

Then we transition to a pre-chorus for a small calm...

Are you out there? Are you out there? I suffer... Your thirteenth suffers!

And then...

IT GOES OFF!

ARE YOU OUT THERE? I'M CLINGING TO THE DARK! ARE YOU OUT THERE? MY FALLEN COUNTERPART! BETRAYAL BURNS, LIKE THE SILVER IN MY HEART! ARE YOU OUT THERE? THE ERROR OF THE STARS!

The best chorus of the album. Without a doubt. There is so much raw emotion here barely simmering at the surface. As my friend @hoholupercal-adopts said;

"It captures ethereal rage, suppressing emotions, sorrow, bliss, and a love and need for hope."

And he is so spot on with that. It is beautiful. It is intense. It's amazing.

And then we come right back to a verse. And we start again, and after the second chorus we enter a small break of calm.

As the bridge starts up, the vocals from the beginning return, along with Chris' wonderful and soft yet gravelly voice with the slowly building instrumentals behind him...

The error of the stars... The error of the stars... A searing oath on the circles of the heart, Are you out there?

The error of the stars...

A brief pause, and then it smashes itself right back into that insane chorus.

This entire song is so powerful. Its so... so raw. So full of just a mix of emotions that it almost feels overwhelming. I just. I love this song so much.

If there is any song you listen to off "Judas", please make it be this. I cannot stress enough how fantastic this piece of incredible artistry is. It is, apparently, "Globalization in practice" according to Chris Harms himself. It is so beautiful. Please listen to it. Do yourself a favor.

16. "The Heartbeat of the Devil" - 8/10

This song has a great groove to it. I like the choice for using electronic drums. It has a very 80s feel about it. Very nice opening, with very open sounding verses and then a very nice chorus.

The piano also works as a nice accompaniment, as per usual at this point. The song is a fine song indeed, it really is grand. However its missing a few things that keep it from a 9/10 or a 10/10. Not entirely sure how to pinpoint what they are, but they're there.

Overall, a grand song, as most of these songs have been. Also this is a song for the Emperor of Mankind and it's funny cause it's number 16, which is Horus' number. But you wanna know what else else? It isn't the only ironic incident of this happening.

17. "And it Was Night" - 10/10

This song took me a bit. Off its intro with the synths, I wasn't vibing with it too much. With the introduction of the guitar and drums, I started to get into it. For the verse, I was still uncertain. That kinda odd synth was back. But it still sounded fine, I supposed.

However. The chorus is, ironically enough, where it shines the most.

It sounds beautiful. There, everything reconverges after the break in the verse, along with the backing choir, and it is simply...

It sounds ethereal. It sounds dreamlike. It sounds perfect for a song entitled "And it Was Night".

Everything afterward sounds great. The elements used in the intro and the chorus are used a bit more in the following verse, and the chorus just hard carries this song to a 10/10. It is fucking fantastic. It has some raw emotion within it, similar to Argent, but instead on a more... dreamlike, hopeful level. Kind of like childlike hope and wonder.

Also I've had 2 people tell me it's a Lorgar song and I agree wholeheartedly. Plus its #17. So ha.

18. "My Constellation" - 6/10

The vocals are fine, and they remind me of a song I can't really put my finger on. But this song just doesn't really do it for me. It has plenty of nice emotion and power with it, but the instrumentals feel kind of... weird. They fit, somehow, but they feel like they shouldn't.

It's still a very above-average song for the musicality of it alone, and the very pretty lyrics. Plus the vocals of the chorus are also nice. But it's still just missing things. It's not that great, but it's definitely an above-average song. One of the weaker entries on this album, but that's not saying a lot since this album is still fucking amazing as a whole.

19. "The Ashes of Flowers" - 8/10

The synths in the back of the intro with the piano sounded kind of odd at first. This is a song that doesn't have much buildup, it just goes along for about a minute and then BAM, intense instrumentals.

I do appreciate such songs as much as I do those that build. Those that slap you in the face will usually, indeed, slap. And this song does, for the most part. There are some bits that sound a bit janky to me, but it is a good song. Very strong entry on the list. At times it shares in that "these don't feel like they should fit together" vibes as its predecessor, but it only happens twice at most. Very gospel-sounding song, especially with how it sounds around the 3:30 mark, with the choir and Chris singing.

20. "Iskarioth" - 9/10

Now we got that more classic sounding heavy metal on the album. I grew up listening to stuff with this sort of style. But of course, the song has some newer elements added in. I love the riffs, though. They sound great. Love that classic sounding over-overdrive on the guitars. Love how it carries into the second verse. The beat and rhythm have that classic metal feel to them as well.

The chorus is, as most on the album thus far, very powerful and clean. The heavy riffs from the intro and breaks between chorus and verse are absent, leaving room for Chris and the backing choir to shine alongside the beautiful piano.

The break for the bridge that slowly builds to the final chorus is very nicely done, and I like how the guitars were added back in. An extremely strong song. Very well done. Love it.

21. "A War Within" - 9/10

Strings are back. I'm a bitch for strings. I love them when they're used in metal. I love them when combined with an organ and piano. I love them also when combined with great vocals. The opening verse leading to the pre-chorus, the repetition, the build to that powerful chorus, it's wonderful. The piano, as always, twining beautifully with the vocals.

The fucking cello solo with the leitmotif is fucking amazing. Favorite part of the song. It's so beautiful.

Very, very excellent piece of music. This song is a 9 for sure. Not quite a 10 since, while the chorus is nice, it could've used a bit more intensity. The pre-choruses where the rhythm picks up and everything feels more urgent is where the song shines for sure. Without a doubt.

22. "A World where We Belong" - 8/10

An interesting somber song that blends the heavier and intense pieces with this overall feeling of melancholy, yet hope. This song doesn't have an instrumental intro. Instead, Chris just starts right off singing. This song definitely feels like a sort of cheesy church song. But it does have a nice message to be found within the lyrics, and it's a nice and slow song too.

Good pacing. Good vocals. A good song.

23. "Apokatastasis" - 10/10

So. Um.

This song is an instrumental that's basically entirely strings.

The name means "the restoration of equilibrium after the apocalypse", and it serves as a respite for the album. A breath of fresh air, similar to Be Still and Know.

However, where Be Still and Know had the various members of the band show up, this one has them quieting down. It features the leitmotif once more, and it definitely has that feeling of peace and quiet. The album, until now, has been a bit chaotic. There's been a lot of emotion, power, and just... feeling.

This is a beautiful piece. It truly is.

10/10, easily.

Now let's wrap up the album.

24. "Work of Salvation" - 9/10

Soft, gravelly vocals greet the listener after that beautiful respite, paired with a lovely choir and piano as well.

Slowly, we get that buildup again. The organ comes back. The song feels very much like "The Death of All Colours", only this time with instrumentals backing instead of just vocals. A nice callback after this long journey.

This song works as a great ending to the album, a very nice catharsis. It isn't overbearingly powerful, but it isn't too soft either. It matches the mood of its predecessor and of that of the album wonderfully.

I'll talk about that in the post after this, but wonderful song.

It even ends with a beautiful, and almost sad rendition of that leitmotif on piano. As if lamenting that the journey is over. A beautiful end to a wonderfully amazing album.

Top 10 Niche Interests

Fixations? Obsessions? This is incredibly hard because I have wayyyy too many niche interests, so instead of stressing about it, I tried to channel the 10 things that immediately speak to me and maybe aren't so obvious from what I post here, like how much I'm obsessed with wigs, doll furniture, incredibly specific blogs, all forms of clothing with pockets, swimming pools, whimsical bus stops, over-the-top bathrooms, etc. etc Instead, I opted for some specifics that feel a little more evergreen and long tailed, like, so LIFE-long tailed that it's tough to nail down when or how they became part of the national psyche. I thank @alienfuckeronmain for the initial tag, and I'm tagging her AGAIN for round two because I know she has a billion additional niche things, and she'll post them, and I'll scream because it'll trigger five other things I neglected to post here, and I'll probably post my own round two, arggggh, insert aggressive sighing. Anyway, I tag ANYONE who wants to do it, just tag me so I can see!

1. Indoor Trees

I have no idea why this concept PULLS so hard because houseplants are kind of meh to me, but you want to plant an entire-ass TREE indoors, in the place where you live? Me, too, and I'd add a conversation pit plus a combo gold/red bathroom, among other things, and, bam, we're in my imaginary dream home, which I have literally, constantly ALWAYS mentally constructed from the time I was about six or so. (If you're curious, it has multiple themed rooms, and the closest I've seen to it recently is the outstanding Dita von Teese AD feature, but Amy Sedaris’s apartment comes close, too). There are two (2) 1960s houses in Long Beach with magnificent indoor trees, but I can't find them online, so have this modern interpretation and cry with me about how I can't visit the multi-story fake tree inside Clifton's Cafeteria for a good long while:

2. Conventions of Fans of Any Kind

One thing that I don't think I'll ever lose is how much I *love* people who are fans of SOMETHING, people who have a passion and create something about it or cosplay it or simply gather to celebrate it and connect to other people through it. The Internet provides in all kinds of ways, but I'm talking specifically about IRL conventions and the way my heart pitter pats when I first walk in those doors, SWOON! And it doesn’t matter how big the convention is or how random, I've been to smaller events like CatCon and the My Little Pony convention all the way up to biggies like WonderCon and Comic Con, and I have yet to be disappointed. I might know jack shit about what I'm walking into, but I want to see the merch, hear about the panels, and check out the people who are fucking PUMPED to be there. Sadly, I think it's gonna be a lonnnnng time until these come back, but I can live vicariously through my old photos, sigh:

3. Dutch Wax Fabrics and African Fashion

I'm not the snazziest of dressers, but textiles, colors, and patterns have been an obsession that has soothed my visual soul for as long as I can literally remember. Wax fabric marries all three of those touchpoints, plus throws in a healthy dose of style, and I count myself lucky to have seen two big exhibits on the subject (this was one of them), oh, how I wish there were more! For sure, there's a fucked up underlying colonial/imperialist history here, but there's also humor and color and vibrancy, a reclamation of sorts, and multiple levels of fashion that take my breath away. I cannot do the different patterns justice at all, but the fan motif is one of my faves:

4. Hearst Castle vs. Madonna inn

These two fall into my #home tag because they're where I'm from, and they speak to me as equally sublime and ridiculous, camp and kitsch writ large and small, different (yet similar!) versions of Xanadu that two rich white men built as shrines to their own personal "taste." And the irony is that a lot of people shit on Alex Madonna for being tacky (the Madonna Inn is...uh, something else), yet praise WR Hearst for all the high-class art and architecture, most of which is fully lifted from desperate churches between and after world and yet they're both more or less the same concept (lodging for weary travelers, self-aggrandizement, questionable taste-mixing). Hearst Castle edges out slightly for me because it's bigger and has spectacular scenery and history, plus it gives me doses of LA noir thanks to the way Hearst killed a guy in a jealous Charlie Chaplin-related rage and Hedda Hopper covered it up, all kinds of old Hollywood shenanigans happened up there, etc. But I'm low-key an expert on both houses of the holy, I'm OBSESSED with both, and we can leave it at that. I mean, come on:

5. Snow Globes

I had to cull my personal collection slightly just to fit it all on the dedicated shelf in my bathroom, and I seriously need to refill all the water lines, but nothing beats a snow globe in terms of memorable souvenir, especially when you put it in a bathroom. The majesty!!! The jewel of my collection is the one from Sherwood Forest because WHY NOT celebrate a historic place and moment in the basic way?? He robbed from the rich to give to the poor, and the gift shop about 100 feet from the tree he hid in does the same! The circle of life! The irony of all the watermarks on this blessed image...protect:

6. Highly Specific Museums

Look, we can all agree that the more venerated museums in the world are a form of garbage in terms of what they represent, what they've done, and who runs them, but I'm here for the museums that collect and celebrate things that tend to get overlooked. There are too many to list that I love that are still thriving, so I'm going to say goodbye to four recently departed faves. RIP to the Pez museum, I'm so glad I saw you and purchased your stale candy souvenirs. RIP to the museum of terrible food, you were a pop up when Phoenix and I saw you, and I will forever think about the worker describing people literally vomiting during their visits. RIP to the currywurst museum in Berlin, I've had currywurst exactly once and it was not for me, but I respect the Journey you took me on, including obscure east German TV shows that helped make you so popular (??). Finally, RIP to the velvet painting museum, there's no way to mince words, the person who owned you was crazy AS FUCK and had zero clue how to run a business, but I'm so glad I saw you multiple times and purchased my own velvet treasure (not this exact one, but remarkably similar):

7. Liminal Spaces: Grocery Store Edition

Confession time for those who don't know me all that well, I'm a big time voyeur, and nothing fills my heart with joy like a walk at 7 or 8 pm, the witching hour when people haven't pulled the curtains, and I can scope out their decorations/furnishings without it being "weird." Another confession is how much I unabashedly adore grocery stores in other countries and will spend at least an hour wandering aisle by aisle, falling in love with how much everything is different yet completely the same:

8. Agatha Christie Novels:

As a child, I was a fairly compliant reader--I had to read something for school? Okay! For my mom? Sounds good! But the books that sparked the initial fire for me to read something purely for myself were second-hand (probably fourth- or fifth-hand, judging by cover art) Agatha Christie short story anthologies, which were the gateway drug to full Agatha Christie novels, then other mystery novels, and so on. But getting back to Agatha, I obviously loved all the stories, but every decade spawned incredibly good cover art (like, exceptionally good), and this particular artist's are right up near the top for me (I go back and forth on a lot of the '50s and '60s ones):

9. Scopitones

I link my obsession with scopitones both to my love of music videos in general and a shop in Austin, TX, that sold DVD compilations of them in particular, but either way, they're underappreciated and kitschy all in one! Francoise Hardy and the rest of the ye-ye's are my forever girls for this medium, but seemingly every country cranked them out, both actual set videos and "live" performances? If you don't know what they are, scopitones were machines that played music videos in French cafes in the '60s (??), so it was sort of your proto-MTV way to see your faves sing and dance. Oh, Francoise...so moderne!!

10. Cover Songs

I have so much patience and love for cover songs of any stripe, the more genre-bending and/or surprising, the better! My only minor beef is the trend in slooooooooowing down songs to make a point, but even those ones have a special place in my heart if they're effective. Live Lounge feeds my hunger the best, but my meta fave for representing this concept is Pulp's Bad Cover Version, which was already lyrically INSPIRED, a song about bad cover versions in terms of relationships, but then they did a video that was a visual "bad" cover version, with actors lip synching over an audio "bad" cover version, and all of it just worked? The cover for the single is someone in the band as a boy, making his own bad cover version of a Bowie album cover, it's meta meta meta, and I love love love, here's the video, if you're curious. In the more sublime cover category, I'm absolutely addicted to all of Orville Peck's covers, I truly hope he officially releases them sometime soon, but I wholeheartedly support any artist who does it:

What do you remember most from being ten years old? I have some memories from 4th grade. My favorite teacher ever was my 4th grade teacher (who later ended up teaching 8th grade and I had him again) and I remember funny stuff he did and like how he read out loud to us books such as Matilda and he would the voices and made it fun for us. He also used to sing, and I remember one time he led all of us in a rendition of “I Want It That Way” by The Backstreet Boys lol. He was so cool. He was the best husband, father, and grandpa. He was hardworking. He provided well for his family. He was loving. He was so funny. He told the best stories. He was known for being a talker haha, he could go on and on for hours, but everyone always wanted to hear what he had to say. And sometimes he’d go off on tangents, but the stories always came for circle. He was just an incredible man, well loved and missed by many.

Thoughts on Project Diva Mega39s

I thought i’d write a little blog post about this, since i’ve had this game for a few days now. There are a few things i’m happy with, and a few things that i’m dissapointed with. So i’d like to talk about that. Keep in mind that I am a NintendHOE. I do not own much Playstation stuff besides my Vita and my brother’s PS2. So this is coming from the perspective of someone who has only played PDf, PDf2ND, X and Project MiraiDX.

Since i’ve learned to end with the compliments while giving a critique, i’ll start with the things that i wished were different.

1. The setlist I’m missing SO many songs from older games! Since this game is calling itself MEGAmix, i would’ve expected way more. I’m missing songs like Nyanyanyanya!, Love is war or Glasses. (seriously, how else am i gonna look at Racing Swimsuit Luka in awe if it isn’t for that slowmo bit at the beginning of Glasses?) If i had to list every single song that i’m missing i could have written a book instead. So i’m not going to do that (yet!) The video that i’ve linked in paragraph 3 under this lists a few more that i think deserve a spot. 2. The PVs Then there are songs like Dreaming ChuChu, or Suna no wakusei, who, don’t have a 3DPV at all, but rather their original PVs the way they were uploaded to Youtube/NicoNico. Excuse me? SEGA, if you’re going to charge me 60 euros for the full game (current DLC included) I’m expecting nicely animated story PVs. I haven’t even talked about the Roki PV or all those PVs that just has the vocaloid dancing on a stage and that’s it. Sure, for some PVs it works. Like for Clover Club. But other than that it’s just utterly boring man.. Where has the time gone where we got fully animated story PVs? Like i dunno.. the VOiCE PV? Who remembers that? I miss that!

Roki’s PV was made by slapping the dance motion they made for the concerts onto the models and bam there ya go. Originality has been found nowhere. I mean sure, they’re allowed to do that. But at least tweak it a little. This is just boring and unoriginal. But hey at least Roki has a 3DPV unlike other songs i would’ve loved to see have one. Exhibit A Exhibit B (Timestamp 2:15 but watch the whole video)

3. Something else Going from the PDf and PDf2nd on my Vita, to this, has been a rough transition. I’m dearly missing the hold notes. Sure, we have a different type now, but it’s not the same. Although I’m sure it’s just an issue of getting used to, I will most likely just go back to my vita to play certain songs the way i like to play them instead. It’s not a big deal, just a thing that i’m personally missing.

Then I heard that SEGA Japan overcharged their people for the game as well. The English translated game was significantly cheaper than the Japanese game, which is interesting since Japan is Miku’s origin country. This is just something i’ve learned from a video on youtube, and i think you should just watch it yourself rather than take my word for it. You can find it right here.

Another little gripe i have is that when you finish a song it’ll have replay preselected and i end up accidentally pressing that instead of back. But that’s just a tiny little nitpick.

I miss the diva room so much!! Why don’t we have any diva rooms anymore? I wanna pet Teto and feed her dangos :(

Oh and, the module selection screen couldve been more nicely ordered. I have to go through like 20 other modules to get to the one i want. It’s really messy looking and i get really overwhelmed by it.

Honestly my biggest issue has to be the setlist, the unanimated and dance/stage PVs, and the oddly looking graphics of the game. (Toon shader on the models but no toonshader on the stages. It looks off. I just don’t like it.) At least the models aren’t looking like the Dreamy Theater models. Good grief was that an eyesore. But i don’t like the toonshader either. I guess it’s more of a taste thing, but i’m not into it.

4. So, which game is the worst. X or Mega39s? Honestly, in my opinion it has to be X. I’m sorry, but despite it having my favourite setlest out of every Project Diva game, I just really dislike the premise of the whole thing. At least the Arcade type Project Diva games lets you play every song freely without any burdening annoying objective like filling up a crystal and having to clear live shows and medly songs in order to advance. And besides that, the Arcade games have way more songs added by all the loids that arent called Hatsune Miku. I’m more of a Rin and Luka stan, so i’d prefer more songs by them, or even Meiko.

And yeah, we could criticise the other games for this as well, but i suppose it’ll always be like this since Miku is Crypton’s flagship product much like what Mario is for Nintendo. She just sells well, so we get more songs involving her, and i get that.

5. What do I like about Mega39s? The sliders have been a lot of fun. Although i miss the star icons from PDf, it’s a great way to keep the gameplay feel fresh. And I feel like especially in songs like Unhappy Refrain they fit in great and add to the feel of the song. I also like the clean menus and the music that plays during them.

Overall the setlist isn’t bad. I love the songs we have. I’ve been dying to play Tricolore Airline outside of Project MiraiDX. (Which by the way, Rin’s version is the most superior one of all of them)

I’m glad that they’ve included the fact that you can change the icons into the old Playstation ones. I’ve changed them into that and have gotten better scores because i’m just more used to that. Although i still have to stop pressing B when i should be pressing A to select something since we’re playing on Nintendo after all.. Yeah, i have trouble SWITCHing if you get me.. haha..

I’m curious of what’s to come for the franchise’s future. I hope they’ve learned from the debacle of PDX.. but who knows really.

The game is fine. You could argue they should’ve just marketed it as Future Tone but on switch, since it is essentially that. But for people like me, who do not own a Playstation, that is not much of a problem. You could always just not get MegaMix if you already own Future Tone. (Honestly, if you own a playstation, please just buy future tone)

But that’s all i have to say on the matter. I also have been thinking of writing a post like this for ACNH since i’m sort of a “veteran” but we’ll see wether i’ll feel like writing another essay by then. If you made it this far, thank you for reading <3

SEASON 001, PART 001

The word is out; starting from OCTOBER 31ST, tvM will be airing LEGACY PROJECT: FUTURE DREAMS, a nine-week survival show based around Legacy Entertainment’s trainees.

Early morning, on OCTOBER 7TH, trainees who signed up for the show are picked up at the the dorms to head to the hair salon. After getting their hair and makeup done, they are taken to a CJ ENM studio. Before they can head to the main studio, the staff has set up three rooms where trainees are taken individually and asked to introduce themselves and talk about their feelings towards taking on this new adventure. They are then instructed to either go in on their own or in small groups (same gender only).

Once they enter the main studio, they can see that not one but TWO PYRAMIDS of chairs facing each other await the trainees –– one with blue lighting for the boys, and one with pink lighting for the girls. Unlike the produce series, trainees learn, upon entering the room, that legacy has already assigned them a number. They are tasked to find their place and initial ranking for the beginning of the show.

Once all trainees are seated, Bae Siwoo makes his grand entrance. He takes the time to engage with the trainees to make them laugh and relax a little bit before before going back to his script. His first announcement is that, this season, the show is not a survival but a competition for a SOLO TRACK. Although this doesn't guarantee a solo career under Legacy, the winners will both, one guy and one girl, receive a solo song. Participation in this season also doesn’t mean an official debut; contestants will still be considered trainees at the end of it.

The second announcement is that, in addition to this, they will have to prepare for the 'trademark songs' of the Legacy trainees –– their own versions of ‘Pick Me' songs.

The last announcement is revealed after a short pause in order to keep the suspense going during the broadcast; training groups will also all receive their own song. Even though each training group will receive a song, they are tasked to also learn the two others in case of any group switches.

Trainees are then introduced to the guest coaches who will be in charge of them for the next two months. Filming for the day ends on that note and, after another comment session where trainees are asked about how they feel about their current ranking and the mission, they are sent back to the dorms. They will not be returning to the studio before November 18 when parts will be officially distributed and winners of the solos will be revealed. Until then, they will go back to training at Legacy Entertainment's main building, although on a different floor, in more modern and bigger training rooms.

Their official working hours are from Monday to Friday, from 2PM until 10PM. Cameras will roll from 12PM to 12AM on those days. They are paid weekly 500,000 won. When coaches are around, usually, the first 3.5 hours are dedicated to dancing and the last 3.5 hours are dedicated to singing with a one hour break.

Throughout week 5, trainees will be reviewed individually by the coaches for the main song, assigned training group song and solo performance. While the event will last for a period of THREE MONTHS, a second part will be posted on NOVEMBER 17TH. Line distributions, solo winners, official recording schedules (expect last weeks of November), MV filming schedules (expect first weeks of December) and more will be revealed at that time.

There are a total of FIVE REQUIREMENTS for this event, three of which will be revealed tonight. Mandatory requirements are marked by stars (**). Except for one requirement in PART 002, fulfilling a requirement equals to appearing in 2 episodes. Therefore, by meeting all 5 requirements, a trainee will have appeared in all 9 episodes of this season. Use the hashtag lgc:futuredreams for everything related to this event.

IMPORTANT: in order for your requirements to be valid, for each first post/solo posted, a READ MORE with a small INTERVIEW must be added. the interview can be just one question/answer, most likely about the thoughts or feelings of the trainee at that moment. TOPIC INTRODUCTION: It is almost Christmas, which means! It’s time to start my end of the year roundup. I made videos every December talkin’ about my top 10 favorite...fill-in-the-blank. This year, we’re going to start with my Top 10 Hit Country Songs of 2020. And before you start typin’ [cuts to Franny wearing Cornelius’ glasses and one of Laszlo pretentious artist scarves, black and white] “Ew! I came here to find of hipster shit!” [cuts to Franny wearing one of Petunia’s jackets, black and white] “Where’s the BANJOS!?” [color restored] that’s the one I’m recording next so hold on.

As always, this list is in no particular order, because I believe that music isn’t something you rank on a linear bad, worse, worst, good, better, greatest scale.

RULES: Now, the rules!

The song can’t be one I had a part in “So if I co-wrote it, if it’s my song, or I featured on the track, it’s out.”

Beyond those rules, that’s really it. So without further ado, let’s get into it.

10. Love You Like I Used To by Russell Dickerson

Number ten on the list is one that, actually, surprised me. To me, Russell Dickerson is...well. I’m all about positivity on this channel, talkin’ about other artists. But. He’s solidly part of mainstream Nashville, y’all know my thoughts on the Nashville music industry.

It’s still -- I mean, it's a mainstream country song and was always meant to be, so it still follows the formula but it’s creative. It presents like a breakup song at first but right before the first chorus, you find it’s actually a love song. The first verse starts with

‘I've always loved you, oh, but something's changed’ but in the chorus you get [and she plays it on her piano, that her camera and microphone are set on and sings it] ‘I don't love you like I used to, this gets better every time you kiss me like this, it's stronger the longer I'm with you-’ and I think that’s a creative thing to do with a song.

Like I’ve said before, I don’t hate every single pop country song, and I think there is value in and a place for, pop country. What I do hate is the vapid, formulaic trash that Nashville keeps pushing. So when a song like this that has the made-for-Nashville-radio arrangement but actually does somethin’ creative lyrically, I see it for what it is. And it’s good. It’s good.

9. One Night Standards by Ashley McBryde

I’ve actually had the pleasure of co-writin’ a song with Ashley before, so seeing how well this song’s done this year-- how well she’s done this year -- it’s been great.

This song’s about a woman laying down the ground rules for a one night stand and I love. this. song.

A lot of people find this song sad, but I don’t think there’s anything sad at all about a woman owning her sexuality. I think this one line, ‘can’t you just use me like I’m using you’ makes people think it’s a sad song. Maybe it is! But like...I had casual sex all the time in college. I was absolutely using my one night stands for some meaningless, easy sex, and I knew they were using me for sex, and it was fine.

It’s fine, that’s what a one night stand is. And to me, it sounds like she’s just here for some sex, and the guy’s like, trying to have conversation and do things “right” like offer his phone number, and she’s like, in the words of the great philosopher, Ke$ha, ‘just show me where your dick’s at.’ And I appreciate that.

8. I Called Mama by Tim McGraw

It might be because I’m seven months pregnant, and my son is starting university next fall, and my mother lives on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, but this song has started to make me cry so I can’t really, like, listen to it very often. But I think it is one of the most beautiful, honest songs on country radio this year. It’s a gentle ballad about not putting things off until it's too late, that starts off with a friend calling the narrator to tell him about the death of a friend, which leads to a phone call home to the narrator's mother.

This song makes me think about myself, and my mother, and one day when my son is living on his own, my son and old lady me.

The part in the second verse, ‘I can always hear her smile when I call, I just called to tell you that I loved you, I was missin' you and dad, and home, that's all’ -- I cry 1 out of 3 times. Probably. I miss my parents a lot. And I hope my son will miss me and call just to say he loves me and his father when he’s all grown up. The song makes me think about my family and my place in it.

7. Starting Over by Chris Stapleton

This is another one that I feel on a personal level. It’s this positive ballad featuring his wife, Morgane, talking about how much they love each other and their desire to go through life’s bullshit together. And it just makes me think about my husband, and how much I love him.

It’s another one I can’t listen to often, I get all misty-eyed. I can’t listen to love songs even when I’m not pregnant, I just call my husband like “I love you” “are you crying” “No!”

6. What If I Never Get Over You by Lady A

This was one of my honorable mentions of 2019 so it doesn’t count, it’s allowed. Charles Kelley and Hilary Scott’s voices together are just - ugh, god, they’re chef’s kiss, perfect. And I...think this song is just about as good as Need You Now as far as their longing, breakup songs.

I like how there isn’t a big beat-you-over-the-head climax moment because this song does not need one, it wouldn’t be right. Like, there is one but it’s not like ‘BAM’ there’s the climax! It’s very natural. It was a return to the rich, smooth sound of the band’s earlier hits and that’s the Lady A stuff I really loved. Even their fun stuff like Lookin’ For A Good Time and Love Don’t Live Here, from the earlier days, I prefer those to the overproduced kind of….made-for-radio stuff that snuck its way into their catalog over the years. Sonically, it seems like they’re returned to what makes them great together and I’m happy to see it.

5. Bluebird by Miranda Lambert

At number five on the list is Bluebird by Miranda Lambert. This whole album was on my best albums of 2019 list, and I am thrilled that Bluebird became a single. Miranda is a modern day legend in country music and this album especially just keeps proving it.

Musically, lyrically, everything about this song works. The twists she makes on common metaphors in the English language like ‘when life gives you lemons’ instead of making lemonade she mixes them in her drink, they’re clever. I adore Miranda, it ain’t a secret, I’ve said as much to her gorgeous, gorgeous face, and it’s great seeing the songs from this album, including Bluebird, get the love it deserves.

4. One Beer by HARDY and Lauren Alaina

One Beer is a song about a teenage pregnancy, which. We all know my experience with that, but if you don’t, click here [points off to the side, and a card pops up that will link you to a video titled I Got Pregnant When I Was 14 #shoutyourabortion #endthestigma]. It kind of reminds me of Kenny Chesney’s There Goes My Life from...2000...2004? Is it? Wow, I’m old.

Lauren Alaina’s voice is flawless, as always, and HARDY’s word play strikes once again. For my followers that didn’t grow up with English as their first language -- is this a thing in other countries, or is this an American thing? My UK, New Zealand, et cetera followers, comment down below if kids did this where you’re from too.

Anyway, if a boy and a girl were so much as friends in like, first grade kids would tease you with this specific rhyme like, Joey and Sarah sittin’ in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage --- and in the song, HARDY plays on that with ‘A boy and a girl and a three on the tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes lust then a shotgun marriage, six months later comes a baby in a carriage’ and just love that kind of clever wordplay shit.

3. I Wish Grandpas Never Died by Riley Green

I first heard this song when I was in The States, driving around with Dan[iel Maitland] and it was on the radio, I thought it was some breakup song. But then the last line of the chorus hit me ‘I Wish Grandpas Never Died’ and I just start bawling and Daniel’s like ‘don’t get your tears on my new car seats!’

Love you too, Dan.

It’s a beautiful song. Sad, but you can also tell he really loved his grandfathers, who’ve both passed away. He’s written several songs inspired by one or both of them. It’s a good song, good writing, I like how lowkey it is musically. And it’s honest songwriting that I wish country radio still had more of.

2. Gaslighter by The Chicks

After over a decade away from the music scene, my queen are BACK! Gaslighter was an amazing return and the rest of their album did not disappoint. Now, I don’t think the album was purely a country album, which I talked about in my full album review you can find here [points to the side, where a card pops up linking you to the video], but it is an album that I thoroughly enjoyed that included country songs. They experimented with this album, I love to see it. Let artists experiment without shaming them 2020! Anyway, the album does have lots of country songs and Gaslighter is one of them.

Natalie Maines’ vocals are, as always, everything one would hope they’d be. They all looked great in the music video. It was a great middle finger to Natalie’s ex-husband, Adrian Pasdar. God, I bet it was fun to write.

I love writing songs about Dan’s divorces with him since I don’t have one to write about. Keep getting divorces Dan, endless content. [cuts to a video of Daniel Maitland acting like she said that in person to him and he goes ‘rude.’]

Stream The Chicks. Natalie, Martie, and Emily could stab me and I’d apologize to them, but the thing is, they never would. They’re too nice. They’re so nice. Collaborate with me again please, please, I love you. [mouths call me]

1. Die From A Broken Heart by Maddie & Tae

This song was another one of my honorable mentions in 2019, and I’m kicking myself for never properly talking about it until now. I’ve loved Maddie & Tae since Girl In A Country Song and Die From A Broken Heart is just -- god, it sounds so familiar.

Like, it sounds like I did talking to my mother about getting my heart broken when I was younger. It’s honest, vulnerable songwriting that I can’t get enough of.

Scenarios

Usually I’ll write scenarios because I’ve came up with this insanely good plot or a picture or something inspired me to write a story about whatever.

Though, you can request anything you’d want me to write, but don’t expect good action stories because I’m typically not good at those.

Jimin watches the pale boy sitting behind the piano gracefully moving his hands to hit every key with each finger, never missing a note.

He couldn’t take his eyes off him, not the piano, but him, Min Yoongi. There was something about the blonde haired older that makes Jimin’s heart flutter even if he never had the courage to talk to him in person.

He’s mesmerized from his beauty which is admired from a mile away and as always it was at the concerts that Yoongi mostly held in his hometown.

His concerts never last long enough as Jimin wish they could continue on forever.

Yoongi’s fingers smoothly strikes the last chord of the song, sitting still as he lets the chord echo through the auditorium.

Jimin watches as the blonde haired boy bows in front of the cheering audience and walks off stage for the next act to perform.

Of course, Jimin wasn’t going to stay to listen to them though.

He walks outside in the freezing cold where the rain continusly pours like hell from the sky.

Jimin places his cold hands in his nearly worn out gray jacket with his head down to block the rain from hitting his face, but it didn’t really matter he was soon to be soaked since he had to walk home without an umbrella.

Upon walking with he his head down, he bumped into a figure and he immediately began to apologize when he looked up to see his idol, Min Yoongi, bending down right in front of him…but the thing is he was too star struck to realize that he accidentally knocked Yoongi’s sheet music down onto the wet concrete.

“Great. What fuckery is this !” Yoongi yells at Jimin, picking up his music before they could become unreadable from the heavy downpour of the rain.

“O-Oh, Yoongi, I’m sorry!” Jimin bows, picking up the remains of soggy music sheets.

Jimin starts to feel quite upset when Yoongi pushes him away.

“Move.” This wasn’t how he planned to meet THE Min Yoongi at least not as how he meet him in his dreams.

“You’ve done enough.. by ruining things.” Jimin’s heart sank in his chest when Yoongi walks away not daring to look Jimin in his eyes and take back what he said. Though for some reason Yoongi really wanted to turn around to apologize for being rude but his conscious reminded him that the historical music in his hand is now ruined.

Now you have at least a good feeling of how my writing is...

As you can see in my edit up there in the little photo header, I made a quick little scenario where you and Jungkook had an argument and you broke up. I have plenty of time on my hands since its summer break and I don't have to go to school till August so I can do a lot with this blog.

let’s start this yo okay so i met up with @poeticyoungjae (mina) and @soft-jaebum (mia) at the venue around 1ish?? i got there last because i took forever to get ready and then my sister and i hit traffic :/ but it was all good

i honestly thought the line was going to be suuuper long to get our wristbands (hence why we got there early) but it wasn’t! there was no line at all so we got our wristbands and we were set!

we then ended up going to ktown to go to this kpop store and it was so fun the car ride was the best thing because we were bumping to got7 and when boomx3 came out we pulled down our windows and we were getting lit! (i bought this cute jaebum ring thingy for my phone from the kpop store and IT’S MY FAVORITE THING EVER)

by the time we got back to venue it was like 4ish and we just walked around and bought stuff from the fansites and got all the cute banners and stuff they were passing out

we were just hanging out when we hear someone talking from the mic and i guess that was the cue that the doors were gonna open soon so i booked it up the stairs (idk why if our the venue was all seated so we had a guaranteed spot ???)

so we’re all out here doing fan chants calling the members names AND ONE OF THE MEMBERS (I HAVE A STRONG FEELING IT WAS JACKSON OR BAMBAM) OPENS THE CURTAINS FROM THE VENUE RECORDING FROM THEIR IPHONE AND EVERYONE IS JUST LOSING THEIR MARBLES (they did it a couple times)

so that got everyone even extra pumped so we’re waiting and they finally open the doors (by this time, we had met up with @cu june) so it’s me, mina, mia and june and we’re all walking in arms linked so we can get our tickets scanned

we get our tickets scanned and we have to separate because mina had center, june had left center but mia and i were on left so it was kind of :( but it was all good

mia and i walk to our seats and i honestly didn’t think i was going to be that freaking close??? (i was row e seat 39) like i was sh*tting bricks because i was hella close (mia was 2 rows behind me if any one is curious)

so i’m sitting by myself waiting for people to sit next to me so i can make friends and oh my god everyone around me was so sweet (none of them had or used tumblr so we added each other on snap but i love them all so much and we actually planned to meet up if we go to the next got7 concert/fan meet)

so we’re all talking getting pumped and people just start screaming and my friends and i were like ??? whats going on AND WE COULD SEE BAMBAM WITH HIS SNOWFLAKE HAIR AND I THINK IT WAS JACKSON FROM THE CURTAINS

THATS WHEN IT GOT REAL BECAUSE THE LIGHTS DIMMED AND THE CONCERT WAS STARTING

they started with ‘let me’ (I WAS SINGING MY HEART OUT EVERYONE AROUND ME WAS LAUGHING) and then it was ‘boomx3′ (DOUBLE B) and then ‘just right’ those were the first 3 songs they performed

after ‘let me’ they introduced themselves AND LET ME TELL YOU, WHEN JAEBUMS SAID “hi guys i’m jb” I-I ALMOST D-E-D JUST 4 WORDS AND I ALMOST K.O

i got the cutest jinson interactions i’ll post them later but bless i think i’m passed my markjin phase hello jinson i’m ready to be loyal

okay okay so they did the questions where they get the sticky notes with questions on it and ask another member the question and honestly!!! i can’t really remember-JUST MOTHERPHUCKING KIDDING I REMEMBER SOMETHING

JAEBUM WAS TALKING DURING AND IDK IF THE VIDEO GOT CUT BUT I REWATCHED ONE OF MY VIDEOS AND IT WAS QUIET EVERYONE WAS TRYING TO HEAR JAEBUM EVERYONE WAS BEING GREAT EXCEPT FOR MY ASS IDK WHAT HAPPENED BUT I JUST START SCREAMING “JAEBUM YOUR ENGLISH IS GOOD YES YES *screams*” (HE LOOKED AT MY PHONE Y’ALL I JUST WATCHED ANOTHER VIDEO AND MY DUMBASS WAS SCREAMING THAT I LOVED HIM SO HARD AND HE WAS STARING AIDNAJSNJSJDJSJSJ)

okay moving on if you read my tags i love disney so much when mark asked what their favorite disney movie was i obviously lost my marbles and wow jinyoungs favorite disney movie is toy story bless hIM

yugbam danced to juju on dat beat AND BOY WAS GETTING IT AYE AYE

watching them play the guess this song game was one of the best things to watch jaebum kept having to do the squats while flapping his arms like a baby bird and there was one point where they put their ears to the speakers to guess the song like wow they was getting wild they was here trying to pop an ear drum (youngjae won and i loved hearing him sing a part of the song he guessed bLESS)

tHERE WAS ONE TIME WHERE JAEBUM WANTED TO GUESS A SONG AND HE RAISED HIS HAND SO QUICK BUT THE TINIEST AND SOFTEST “jaebum” CAME OUT OF HIS MOUTH IT WAS THE CUTEST FREAKING THING I LOVE HIM and then the rest of the members teased him about it it was cute

jaebum and yugbam had to sing their parts on helium and freaking bambam started singing watch me whip and do the stanky leg and yugyeom sounded so cute he sounded like a minion

they played the behind the scenes from the filming of hard carry and came back on stage with ‘fly’ but okay so we all have seats and we can stand but we have to stay at our seats but there were these groups of girls that ran to the front of the stage so everyone else thought it was okay too so they kind of blocked the way and my friends and i were trying so hard to stay at our seats but ended up getting frustrated because couldn’t see crap so ended up moving a little up (don’t worry we didn’t stay there when we were suppose to be seated like most people we would go back to our seats)

‘FLY’ WAS SUCH A HYPE STAGE YOUNGJAES VOCALS WERE FREAKING AMAZING AND THEY WERE DANCING SO HARD YUGYEOM DIDN’T COME TO PLAY MY BOY WAS GETTING IT EVERYONE WAS DOING FUCKING AMAZING AHHHH I LOVE THAT STAGE

after it was ‘if you do’ and jaebum came out with his emo side and had his hood on (i hope he was doing it for the effect i hope it wasn’t bad or anything pls pls pls i hope he wasn’t upset or anything okay no bad thoughts arianna stop) but yeah my boy came out looking good and was going HARD AND 2JAES VOCALS AND MARKSONBAMS RAP

that stage was amazing tambien i just remember saying “FUCK IT UP” throughout the whole thing

they started their goodbyes and oh my god i was so :-( merp but i was so happy when youngjae sang for elliot yamin he sang for him and then he got up from his seat and was so hyped for youngjae ahhhh i’m so happy for him our sunny

jaebum said his speech and wow i seriously love him with everything my 🌎"thank you for coming *my screams covering up what he said after* peace” and THEN MARKS SPEECH REALLY HAD ME HE WAS LIKE CHOKING UP AND GOD I’M SO HAPPY HE WAS HOME THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LETTING HIM BE HOME (idk who i’m thanking but JUST THANK YOU)

jacksons speech really got to me like i know i’ve been saying this but (not to be a sap) his speech was something i really needed to hear oh my god i’m going to cry BUT JUST UGH I LOVE JACKSON WANG

they “finished” up with ‘hard carry’ and honestly i thought it was for real done like idk why i forgot about ‘homerun’ but they came back on stage AND HAD THEIR ENCORE STAGE ‘HOMERUN’

THIS STAGE WAS ANOTHER ONE OF MY FAVS IT WAS LIKE MY TOP 3 1. boomx3 2. homerun 3. fly

OKAY BUT I KNEW THEY CAME CLOSE TO INTERACT WITH THE FANS BUT I DIDNT THINK IT WAS GONNA BE THAT CLOSE I WAS SO CLOSE TO JINYOUNG HE WAS GIVING SO MUCH FANSERVICE YUGYEOM ALSO HE WAS OUT HERE BEING THE CUTEST THING (i also got cute jinson moments here)

jaebum didn’t come to my side :/ its cool i see him no i’m kidding but i have a close up of each member except my babe BUT IT’S ALL GOOD BECAUSE HE MADE IT UP AT THE HI TOUCH (i know this very long and theres probably going to be more but pls bare with also thank you for reading so far :-)

they finished up ‘homerun’ and they did their bows and it was such a heart warming feeling like i really saw them perform i was and still am so happy like i didn’t even cry i was just so happy i couldn’t stop smiling :-) i could just feel all my love and their love and it was just a big aroma of love and i loved it

okay so when jaebums partner was introducing herself her name was kat (like a gato) and she did like claw with her hand and jaebum was confused he was kat? and she was like yeah kat and did the claw thing and once he understood he was like oh kat and did the claw thing too aiandjsjdjsjsjs CUTEST THING

and once again youngjaes partners name was arianna (or ariana) and every time they said her name i would scream so freaking loud (i think she was one of the girls that they surprised in the buzzfeed video but i’m not sure)

jinyoung is hella good at that hacky sack game when he was done i kept screaming “messi who?? messi WHO?”

and lastly MARK CARRIED HIS PARTNER BECAUSE THEY WON AND I SWEAR IT REMINDED ME OF A DRAMA HUG WHERE THEY’RE IN SLOW MOTION AND HUG DRAMATICALLY IT WAS SO CUTE AND JACKSON WAS BEING THE BIGGEST GENTLEMEN (like always) TO HIS PARTNER HOLDING HER COAT AND PUTTING IT ON AND THEN PUTTING IT BACK ON HER

oh and bambam called his partner queen and noona and aishsinajsjsjsjs i love him

OKAY HI TOUCH TIME so they’re finishing up the photo op and now i’m reunited with mina and june so its mina, mia, june, 2 other friends we made there and me! we kind of wanted to go last for the hi touch but apparently some fans went twice for the hi touch :/

i guess they didn’t leave the venue and just went back in line and got to high five them again so security was getting pretty strict and somewhat rude

so before anything else could happen we got into line (we ended up losing june) and the line started moving fast

the line up was jackson, jaebum, youngjae, mark, yugyeom, bams, and jinyoung

so ya girl was coming up with what to say to them and the line is moving hella fast!! so mia was first then mina then me and our other 2 friends

i get to jackson and he’s leaning on the table and i high five him and tell him “please be healthy i love you” aidnajjsjsjs he gives me his little turtle like smile and i freaking almost d-e-d but jaebum was after so i pulled through

something happened and mark was not letting go of minas hand so i was with jaebum for like a cool minute so he has like his hand in a low high five position and i’m resting my hand on his and i’m telling i love him and to stay healthy and thanking him and he’s nodding and smiling and staring into my soul like hard core and oh my god i thought this was it this was the end for me it felt like i was going up to heaven

his hair was covering his eyes but i could see his eyes and FLIP I LOVE HIM SO MUCH JAEBUM I LOVE YOU

its youngjae next and i sorta blacked out with jaebum because i was there pretty long and youngjae is the cutest thing ever i high five him and tell him i love him and thanked him and then mark!

i don’t know what happened to me but i was chill with mark so i start “welcome home mark… mark you look so good in turtle necks i love you” HE WAS NODDING SO CUTELY AND WHEN I SAID THE TURTLE NECK THING THING HE RAISED HIS EYEBROWS AND DID THAT CUTE CHUCKLE HE DOES AND I ALMOST K.O AGAIN

then it was the maknaes and i told them i loved them and thanked them (i forgot what i wanted to tell them because of everything that happened :/) and finally it was the prince himself jinyoung

and that was it i walked down the stage and mina and mia were a little ahead of me and once i got outside the venue mina was holding my hand and I BROKE DOWN

I WAS ON THE FLOOR CRYING HOLDING MINAS HAND AND I JUST COULDNT BELIEVE I SAW THEM I LOVE THEM SO MUCH THEY WORK SO HARD FOR ALL US AHGASES AND I JUST WISH I COULD GIVE THEM MORE THAN THANK YOUS AND I LOVE YOUS BECAUSE THEY JUST DESERVE IT ALL I LOVE MY ANGELITOS

after my little moment i had to leave because my sis was already at the venue ready to dip so i said bye to everyone and i had my little dramatic ‘looking out at the stars through the window’ moment while we were driving home
