Art Project #3: The Supercut Video (A Supercut of Us)

Artist Statement:

I made this supercut to capture a montage of just really special and happy times that I’ve had with my friends. My friends are such an important and influential part of my life that without them I don’t know where I’d be. Whenever I’m with my friends, it’s only good vibes and I always just have a great time and I wanted to capture that joyous feeling through this supercut video.

I was scrolling through my camera roll trying to find videos to include in this montage while still unsure of what song I wanted to use when I came across the first video clip. After a very adventurous day, I took numerous videos of my friends and I singing songs in the car and we happened to be singing “Tongue Tied” by Grouplove as one of them. When this song had first came out, I was obsessed with it because it always just made me feel nostalgic to all the happy summer days I would have being out with friends and how special those days were.

I decided from there to use this song and had the idea to transition us singing the song into the actual audio of the song. I then put the audio and the first clip into the editing app I use on my iPad (Premiere Rush) and then from there found a variety of short videos of my friends and I and put those in as well.

I’m really happy with how the video came out and I genuinely think I captured some of these momentous times with friends. I can feel how happy I get every time I watch it, which I’ve rewatched it an ungodly amount of times at this point.

Tongue tied makes me think of this time in college when I stayed for a weekend at my rich friend Lee’s terrifying summer house and they were super republican and literally had taxidermied animals in every corner of the house and they made us all do physical labor in exchange for being allowed to sleep in their house and they had a huge freezer full of raw meat in the basement. And there were like 30 of us, half of us college kids visiting Lee and the other half were friends of her little brother who was in high school. And we went into their garage and drank her parents’ mead which was delicious because her dad literally was also a beekeeper and we got blasted on that stuff and played strip poker and manhunt and stuff. And lee had this friend robin who was a cool lesbian and I had just come out to my friends and was really unsure of myself and I was wasted and sitting in her lap and stuff and like losing my mind from how horny I was but then eventually I ran away and went to sleep and HAD A SEX DREAM ABOUT HER and when I woke up she was already gone!! And then a couple of months later I found out that I was permabanned from lee’s parents’ summer house because I was too pro-choice or something even though this other girl literally gave a blowjob to their teen son and threw up in a closet and they didn’t ban HER but they banned ME. anyway I love the song, tongue tied by grouplove, give it a listen if you get a chance, sound of the summer

oh kaku is absolutely joining galley-la. they try to make him stay after enies lobby and he's like "no let's go be proper government traitors and give everything we know to the revs and then i'll consider it" this argument ends with the other six deciding that they'll do that and then promptly dump kaku on the next ship to water 7 regardless of whether or not he agrees. if necessary, they are not above tying him up to get him there. if that doesn't work, they could always ask kuma.
