"I talk a lot about how Folklore was the first time I was writing in characters, but actually Speak Now, I was inventing scenarios that definitely weren't happening in my life. I wrote the song Speak Now about like, interrupting a wedding of an ex, and like I was eighteen when I wrote that so, none of my exes were getting married. I'd never interrupted a wedding. It was just a fantasy, you know? And I think that's one of my favorite things about Speak Now, is that it was so… fantasy, it was so fantastical and I think that was the first time that I did start thinking in cinematic, you know, 'this isn't my life, but what if it were?' like watching a movie and trying to write what those characters might be feeling. I say this because I want to play a song that, when I wrote it, I was writing about all these relationship things that hadn't happened to me yet - like, there's a drawer of my things at your place and things like that. And like, working through fights and not just breaking up. Those are things that I was not partaking in at eighteen or nineteen when I wrote these songs, but - it's been such a privilege, such a treat to go back and re-record them because relating to them now, it's really crazy to go back and listen to these songs that at the time were fantasy but now feel really relatable to me. So this is um, this is called 'Mine'."
