The latest issue of the IDW comic has been criticized for Sonic's seemingly inappropriate response to Dr. Starline's death in the previous issue, so I would like to propose an alternative.

SPOILERS FOR SONIC IDW 50 - From Previews
Tumblr media
This page just got revealed as a preview for IDW Sonic #50 and I am so pumped! I’ve seen folks who aren’t fans of IDW Eggman because of how reckless he is in the Metal Virus Arc and Ian Flynn’s assertion that Eggman doesn’t plan ahead, and I get why that may put some people off, but I think #50 will show the other side of his character and why it kicks ass.
Sure, Eggman flies by the seat of his pants and doesn’t plan enough, but that’s because he doesn’t need to. He’s got nearly unlimited resources and an intellect that lets him improvise his way back on top with ease. Unless he’s up against Sonic the Hedgehog or a literal god, Eggman can and will find his way out of any situation. There are of course some exceptions of course (Metal Virus being a big one) but generally him playing fast and loose is a sign of earned confidence, not stupidity.
Unless this page is bait, it looks like issue 50 will be the ultimate showing of Eggman’s improvisation. Starline has been built up since the end of the Neo Metal Arc. He’s been shown to be brilliant, incredibly resourceful, doggedly determined, far more pragmatic than Eggman, and such an Eggman fanatic that he’s come to understand a ton of Eggman’s flaws and attempted to overcome them. Yet even with all that, plus catching Eggman off guard and seizing all of his resources, it looks like Starline will be put in his place within *minutes* of executing his master plan. Even in his less prepared, more improvisational IDW form, you do *not* fuck with Eggman.

So Sonic died
Yes....
YES.
Countless times, luck has shown him pity. He has grown arrogant.... complacent. This was destined to be his undoing.
Your world has one less agent of chaos to defy me. Now, more than ever, its End is assure—
....
.... He was only sleeping....?
.... Oh.
....
.... I knew that.

Sonic Frontiers Endgame Spoilers under the cut
People are saying that The End is an incarnation of Infinite but honestly it’s a lot more likely that it’s the other way around.
Like guys, we don’t really know how old Infinite is/was, but in all plausibility given his backstory it probably wasn’t “incomprehensibly old enough to destroy the homeworld of an ancient civilization of aliens singlehandedly.”
Given that The End was trapped the Ancients for X thousand years before tricking Sonic into setting it free, that timeframe would’ve been mutually exclusive with Infinite running around during the events of Forces without the usage of time travel or some shit.
But I guess since it could still affect things (ie guiding Sonic) within the vicinity of the Starfall islands, maybe you could say that it was able to get just a small piece of its power to leak out but I’m pretty sure that’d make more sense for an origin story for The Phantom Ruby rather than Infinite himself, especially given the events of Mania. Since again, Infinite seemed like more or less a normal mortal before Eggman gave the Ruby to him.
All this, combined with the implication that the Moon form we fight might not be its actual body but an incarnation it uses to interact with the physical world (What with being a manifestation of Nothingness, Entropy, Death, etc.al a some serious Lovecraft shit), gives me the impression that if anything, the Phantom Ruby is another Incarnation of The End. And given what happened to Infinite both at the end of Forces and Word of God saying he’s straight up DEAD from overusing it, I think its power is a form of a Faustian Bargain where you use it for a period of time before getting snuffed out, since The End’s whole final boss monologue and the fact it genocide’d the Ancients twice over gives the impression that it has a real sadistic streak.
(And personally I’d like this to mean that being able to have multiple Incarnations means it becomes a recurring antagonist since that’d be dope as Hell and a way to set it distinct from other Sonic Final Bosses Who Aren’t Eggman).

Between all the discussion around issue 50, I wonder if a certain villain will truly be gone for good. I would like to say for sure it will end one way or the other, but SEGA has a precedent of bringing back characters and/or preventing their deaths, sometimes to their detriment. Given that they're making a fair amount of merch to comic characters, would they intervene here, and more importantly, should they?
I kinda feel like Starline has fulfilled his intended narrative purpose and that bringing him back without some heavy duty planning would be counterproductive. Likewise, SEGA is only concerned with THEIR characters not dying/remaining dead- Starline came from the IDW books and as such they have no real reason to intervene on his behalf, and ultimately I think that's for the best. Starline's had his time in the sun and it was fun. But now the time has come to move forward in the book and see what else they can do.

Sonic 2 was SOOO GOOOD
Spoilers!
It had a great balance of funny, action and wholesome scenes
Tails has always been my favorite character from the games and I loved him in the movie and his relationship with Sonic was so wholesome.
They did Knuckles right. I love that he stayed serious throughout the movie yet had his funny moments. Funniest scene was when he, Robotnik and Stone were spying on Sonic's text messages and Knuckles just kept saying dot dot dot.
Rachel was 100% better in this movie! I loved that she wanted to bury the hatchet with Tom. And I was totally on her side when Randall turned out to be an agent (and I liked they continued that plot point from the first movie). But I'm glad she got her happy ending.
Jim again was amazing as Robotnik, you can really tell he was enjoying the role. And I do hope he returns for the third movie (and I hope he gets his wish for Robotnik to look more like the game).
Also liked that it was easy to follow along with the lore so even if viewers never played the games and didn't know the backstory with Knuckles and the emeralds they would still be able to follow along with the plot. The first movie did a great job introducing Sonic and this one did a great job with introducing more of the lore.
I saw a brief clip of Super Sonic but the scene was really cool.
Also Wade had more of an important role which was great.
also loved the references to the games! the instruction manual to Robotnik's mecha, the fact that Sonic's weakness is water! And that he had to use air bubbles to breathe! and I think I heard the sound that plays when sonic is almost out of air in the music in that scene?
ALSO THE POST CREDITS SCENE! So cool that they're going to be utilizing that story in the third movie! also loved how they did the credits.

Between Paramount’s endorsement of Israel and the fat jokes from the Cinemacon trailer, the Keanu casting is just another nail in the coffin for this movie.
