Photographer!Hanma Headcanons

Photographer!Hanma is a fascinating person. The kind of guy whose travel stories you actually want to hear and photos you want to see. He is the kind of person who has the most insane stories from being abroad, whether it’s meeting celebrities (because he would absolutely have that kind of luck), nearly dying from a freak natural disaster, or “accidentally” breaking the law and now being banned from that country or be arrested upon entry.

Photographer!Hanma, while you might judge him at first for seeming goofy as hell, has taken photos for NASA, National Geographic, LonelyPlanet, and dozens of other magazines and travel books. Hell, you have a poster of a photo that he took hanging in your bedroom. He would wink at you when he asks where you put the poster that he took. (And maybe suggestively comments that he doesn’t just take travel photos).

Photographer!Hanma is one of those people who, if they’re in your travel group, you might roll your eyes at them when they strike their pose, but when you look at his collection of photographs of him striking the same pose from every continent in the world, yes, including Antarctica, you are amazed. Photographer!Hanma’s pose, no matter the location, is all lanky legs, relaxed smile, happiness that reaches and fills his eyes, and the tattoos on his hands on full display. He mostly takes these photos for himself, to document how far he’s come, literally, but he secretly hopes to one day have a small art exhibit of this same pose all around the world.

Photographer!Hanma would obviously go to well-traveled places, because even if some of them are a bit overhyped, they are famous for a reason. However,  after having grown up in gangs and with a streak for the extreme, he takes any and all gigs that require him to go someplace miles away from the beaten path. That’s how he found himself in Antarctica for three months, photographing penguins, cloud formations, constellations, and the daily lives of climate scientists. One of his favorite stories to share was when, slightly intoxicated, he stumbled outside to pee, like he might do at a bar. The only difference was, the temperate was so cold, the pee froze. On the way out. He waddled back inside, pants slipping below his knees to yes, take a picture.

To no one’s surprise, Photographer!Hanma is still incredibly loyal to his friends, even if he’s hours ahead or behind. He’s actually one of the best out of the group to text, call, and of course, send pictures. When he is missing his friends a little bit more than the usual ache in his chest, Photographer!Hanma enjoys doing silly little things to show that he misses them and to help them feel a little closer.

Photographer!Hanma likes trying ramen in different places and sending photos to the Kawata brothers comparing it to theirs. The ramen abroad never lives up to theirs. He attends clubs, both to party, but also to send reviews to the Haitani’s for how they can improve their own clubs. Even though he doesn’t mind cheap alcohol and personally believes the cheaper the alcohol, the crazier the stories that result from it, he does his research and finds fancy bottles to send back to Kisaki and Koko. They do not share, so he grumbles a bit as he has to buy two.

Saved on a special memory card, Photographer!Hanma has hundreds of photos of stray cats that he sends to Chifuyu. If knows he’s going to be in a spot for a while and sees a more sickly cat, he asks Fuyu, Baji, and Kazutora for tips on how to nurse the cat back to health. Again, with him being loyal to a fault and not one to just abandon that which he’s adopted, he puts up posters and asks around all the people he’s met until he finds a loving home for the cat.

Photographer!Hanma is the “rich, single aunt” who flits around the world and brings back the best presents when all of his friends start reproducing gremlins.

Photographer!Hanma would absolutely take a picture of trash and send it to Takemitchy with a message saying, “Hey, I didn’t know you were in X country, good to see you!” Roasting Takemitchy never gets old for Photographer!Hanma (or any Hanma, let’s be honest), and even though he rolls his eyes and typically doesn’t reply, Takemitchy likes the reminder that Hanma is still managing to keep himself alive.

Photographer!Hanma is insanely good at the “fake it till you make it” in regard to being multilingual, in that he knows a little bit of just about every language. At the very least, he knows enough to get to the country and throughout it, get himself a beer, a hotel, meet a few friends, and just have an incredible time. He can’t hold a bunch of super in depth conversations, but he’s really good at just getting by. Photographer!Hanma can read people like no one else can, and has mastered all of the unspoken “universal” languages and humors of the world. One thing he is not, that he is most grateful for in this timeline, is that while he might miss his friends in Japan, he is no longer ever completely lonely.
