Would you consider clone meat vegan? Like, you type the code into your star trek machine and it turns air into a steak, that didn't harm an animal, so it's good right? In that same vein, would clone pork be kosher?

I don't think clone meat is "vegan" in the literal sense, but I do think it would achieve the same goals as veganism, which I'd argue is more important.

The clone pork / clone shellfish question is a matter of some debate, IIRC, and it ultimately depends on how you interpret the meaning of the halakha in question -

From the angle of tradition or Reconstructionist-style "we do this because we find value in following certain Jewish religious laws because they are Jewish religious laws," I'd argue it's still treyf. It's still "essentially" pork or squid or whatever, and therefore off the table.

If you're coming at it from the angle "is this meat sourced humanely? Am I at risk of eating a particularly intelligent animal, as pigs or octopodes or cetaceans are?" then it's definitely kosher, since there was never an actual animal to die or suffer for the meat.

You could also argue that it's a question of the chemical and physical structure of the meat itself. This might seem like a silly take, but consider: Blood is universally treyf. If you were to consume Lab-Grown blood sausage or what have you, is that really tangibly different from Organic blood sausage? isn't hemoglobin still hemoglobin, at the end of the day?

there's also the idea that appearing to violate halakha is itself considered something to avoid, so you could make a surprisingly strong case for "it's okay to eat lab-grown pork UNLESS someone might see you eating it and think it's regular pork obtained by slaughtering a pig."

All that being said: My personal take is closest to the "whether by coincidence or by design, kashrut leads us towards more ethical animal agriculture, and part of that is Not Eating Particularly Smart Animals" idea. so I personally would be fine eating lab-grown pork or eel or what-have-you.

he signs your daughter up for hockey as soon as she's old enough to play 💀 drives her in the morning to practice and on the way home from the rink, he'll stop for some hot chocolate and donuts (sorry, is my Canadian showing here???)

if you approach him about having a second child, he has a hard time with it at first. he loves your daughter so much, it's hard for him to imagine finding room in his heart to love two babies!!

but you finally convince him and the two of you get to work on a second baby and this one is a boy!! porco gets really excited about telling your daughter about her new baby brother and (to no one's surprise) she pitches a fit about having to share her daddy w someone else

porco helps her get over it by really involving her with the pregnancy. he lets her sit on his lap when he's reading to your belly, gets her to feel when the baby is kicking, and gets her to help choose what colour to paint the baby's room and what toys to get for him

and when you give birth to the second baby, and porco holds him for the first time, he realizes that he doesn't have to even think about making room in his heart for another child because it's already been there this whole time 🥺 this man is a blubbering mess in the delivery room for both kids, i swear

when your kids get old enough to start talking back, porco gets really annoyed but like -- who does he think they learned it from?? 💀

I think in regards to how much discomfort I've been brought recently by how much shipping and such has overtaken the rayman fandom I'm just gonna... take a few steps back a bit. it's causing me genuine distress, so I'm just gonna put a biiit more distance between the fandom and myself. I'm gonna grab a mug of hot chocolate, get cozy, cuddle up close to ray, and just vibe in my own corner for a bit.

I'd much rather try to focus more on my relationship itself with ray and playing his games and being with him instead of feeling like I'm getting punched in the gut everytime I scroll through the rayman tag 😅 while I absolutely adore all the fan content, I know that there's gonna be mountains upon mountains of shipping stuff, and I think I'm at a point where I need to step back and learn to cope with it a bit better before I engage so much with the fandom side of the community again.

he brings me so much joy and happiness and I have so much love in my heart for him, and THAT'S where I want my focus to be. not on things that upset me and make me uncomfortable.

not gonna let silly things like that ruin my relationship with him and the love that we have 💖 need a bit of time alone for just the two of us ^^

I think for coffee, I'd say my favorite might be an iced caramel macchiato (I got one with chocolate syrup the other day and it was hella good), it's just bitter enough that it's not over-sweetened and I like how it balances out. I also love any kind of mocha :>

A lot of my initial inspiration actually came from manga and anime! I drew a huge amount of Naruto fan art in my early teens, and I really aspired to be a manga artist myself for a good while there. Moving away from that style to develop my own has been important to me, but I learned a lot starting out from there. Watching anime also did a lot to shape my writing and storytelling (for better and worse), and I think it's what gave me a more cinematic mental approach to visualizing scenes. Sketching and storyboarding became an important part of my writing process, and over time that starting drawing me towards comics, along with inspiration from comic artists like Gerard Way, Gabriel Bá, and Gabriel Picolo.

I was also really inspired by C.E. Thornton, a self-published author who wrote The Guardians of the Light trilogy. She's a wonderful person and a brilliant writer, and she really encouraged me to keep creating my own stories.

In the past few years, I've been really inspired by comic and Webtoon artists I've met online! Mat Jester (Para-Professional, Cryptozoology), SodaWizard (Artificial Blood), Indiigocats (Misguided Ghosts), A.Berg (After Dark), and Wulvert (Paperteeth!) in particular are wonderful artists I admire. Seeing them work so hard to bring such beautiful characters and stories to life inspires and motivates me to work toward the same.

AH oh god i want so badly to be a killer in a horror movie i’ve thought about this a lot. i have so many ideas tho this is gonna be hard. i don’t know what my name would be lol but the weapon i would use would probably be a hatchet because i love them. i love love love camp horror stories so i definitely want to be a killer in a summer camp and terrorize the camp counselors and maybe even the campers. it’d probably be the 70s or 80s and i don’t know where! maybe somewhere in the south? or east. and i have no idea what the movie name would be lol im pretty uncreative.

Ah, thank you so much! I really like exploring platonic love and possession/obsession with characters, especially in horror. I feel like it doesn't always get explored enough, especially when there's a bond between a monster and a human. And Mark and mimic!Cesar's situation is so unique - the monster that was given humanity it never asked for, and the human that unknowingly gave it to it. Mark can't forgive it for killing his best friend and mimic!Cesar can't forgive him for making it feel so broken and lost. And yet there is a kind of magnetism between them. They just keep getting thrown back together, for better or for worse and it's something that they eventually have to figure out. I really love writing them and I'm very excited to explore their dynamic more in Part 6 - mimic!Cesar's hatred, Mark's anger making him swear vengeance only to find he can't carry it through when it comes down to it; mimic!Cesar's guilt at killing Mark, Mark's unhealthy blowing hot and cold with the mimic because sometimes he can't help but just want to pretend that it really is his best friend, that Cesar is alive again.

And then there's Cian and Sam trying to figure things out and ensure that they're there for the both of them (no matter how unfair Mark thinks that is)....

Part 6 is really going to test the bonds of a lot of characters :)

It really means a lot that you enjoy the characterisation of the cast! I feel a lot more free now that they're all OCs, but it's still something I worry about as I want to make sure the characters I make and write are compelling, even the characters you're meant to dislike. I try and ensure that all of them have flaws, and that they're believable so that even if you can't personally relate to them, you can understand where they're coming from whenever they mess up or remain stubborn and difficult over certain topics. I think that will really be tested in Part 6 when Mark is very angry and often lets it get the better of him verbally and even physically at times. He takes it out on mimic!Cesar and the people he loves, too. He feels betrayed with how accepting Cian and Sam appear to be, and he hates how there is something that looks exactly like his dead best friend in the house with him. There will be times where readers won't like him and the actions he takes, but I hope I have built up Mark enough as a character that his behaviour is understandable and that you want to see him get help and get better again.

Yeah, Part 6 is going to be... very character driven at points. And I really am as excited as I am nervous, I promise! lol

Welcome to the forbidden Pumpkin Head Tumblr!! Cedar's Descent was originally sung by Oliver (hell I'm pretty sure there's a WIP using him somewhere in my posts) but mixing him was . so hard. Because he's this soft little choir boy and the song gets so loud. So I switched to SAROS because they were so much easier to use and sound closer to how I imagine Cedar's voice. I just got into Scott Pilgrim this past month but your fanfics make me so happy I get so excited when I'm looking through the tags and see you uploaded something new! You do such a good job at making Scott the endearingly oblivious idiot he is around Wallace without it feeling forced or overdone.

Ships where you can tell they may be partners now, but they were best friends first and have those years of trust and love already built in hold a special place in my heart and you capture that feeling perfectly. Like sure they're boyfriends now but they probably still bicker and play video games together (it's more of Scott playing while Wallace watches half the time) and anything else they did when they were still just friends.

Dating doesn't exactly change that already special and meaningful relationship they previously had, if anything it just adds onto and enhances what was already there.

I FUCKING KNOW RIGHT!!!! its so good and im soooo glad. One of my favorite things about the show so far is that it makes it clear that the targaryens are NOT better or superior to everyone else, but they ARE different. It's a whole other playing field for them! The looks, the prophecies, the drama, the dragons. It doesn't make them superior but it does make them alien to the rest of westeros and dragongender is a facet of that that I adore so much <3 they're outsiders even to the people they rule! daemon and rhaenyra are such a brilliant example of it... Rhaenyra is the first female heir in the dynasty, who shows more interest in ruling than in boys, who thinks she will never be the son her father wants, who is cast aside and ignored by the realm even after being named heir. daemon is the spare, the derided younger sibling essentially cast out and ignored, who wields the female conqueror's sword and fights wars to make his brother look at him, who is identified as the visenya of the family. They're perpetual outsiders and their gender, both the way it is and the way it's perceived, is SUCH a big part of that. They're both dragons, "as mutable as flame," and they'll always be perceived as outsiders for it!!! PLUS as we saw in that parallel from the last episode, both of them coming back to the land of the living covered in blood so clearly Other compared to the people of westeros... It's so great as both an example of their contrast to everyone else as targaryens and as dragons AND as a display of their connection to each other... They have the most connection to their valyrian heritage AND the most Gender Fuckery and that's why they're so alike. Literally whatever souls are made of his and mine are the same and dragongender.... That's why baby!!!

i’m going to use this as an opportunity to rant about school uniforms sorry rbehhdbd anyway

i went to an all girls school and our uniforms were actual hell. the shorts were always made with a cut in mind for boys (no hip room and a lotta room in the crotch) and the winter uniforms were thinner than the summer ones and were literally see-through (yikes) and the seams would always split in the armpit areas which was also not great plus the texture of the senior skirt was so evil on my sensory issues i hated it.

anyway sorry for that i’m curious what ur perspective on uniforms was.

(this is all btw not an attack on u i just can’t comprehend wanting school uniforms as i had to live with them)

so

i went to school and live in the midwestern us which is v similar and my state especially is v similar to like. the us south to a certain extent (pls don’t come for me actual southerners lol) which is just to say people here are often very religious (christian) and looooove to put that on other people when they can especially children

so my schools all had p wild dress codes and even that for our state was pretty tame. shorts and skirts couldn’t be shorter than your fingertips at your sides even if you wore tights or leggings underneath (like. pants. even if you wore pants you still couldn’t wear them.) shirt sleeves had to be your whole hand wide and if they dipped too low into your chest (basically if they went past your collarbone) they also weren’t allowed. no flip flops or other open toed shoes. no heels. pants had to pull away from your legs a fingers width worth.

i got dress coded before i even hit puberty because i wore pants i had slightly outgrown that were too tight one day and you could see my panties through them by a teacher i didn’t even have or know and i was hysterical for the rest of the day bc i was so ashamed

the rules were also much more strictly enforced if you had curves at all. i was luckily for my sake very thin at the time but if you had any kind of hips or chest at all you just got busted all the time

i and most girls in my grade eventually just resorted to wearing baggy t-shirts and either leggings or jeans every day because there was literally nothing else we could wear. for me that was fine bc i care abt nothing except comfort and kind of liked it but for a lot of other girls in my grade thag was not the vibe we wanted

and by the time we were in eighth grade we were just like “if they’re gonna give us so many rules about how to dress to the point where we can’t even ✨express ourselves✨ the way they’re wanting why don’t they just give us a uniform we can wear and not worry about getting busted bc i forgot a cardigan to wear over this top that has the slightest shape to it or some shit”

like the rules were so bananas and so unfair and in place for such horseshit reasons that we just wanted to be done with it and have a uniform for less stress getting dressed in the morning honestly

we definitely wanted quality ones tho that sounds rough and i’m sorry you had to deal with that

First election!! How exciting! Yeah sorry it's not better. I was very lucky and got to vote for Obama in 2008 as my first.

One thing I HIGHLY recommend keeping an eye out for is any post encouraging not voting that uses progressive language. Such as the horrors in Palestine. In 2016 a lot of the suspected interference was found in progressive spaces. Tearing down Hilary, advising people not to vote or to write in Bernie.

People who want to control our elections, both foreign and domestic, did and will 100% again place people in progressive circles. And these peoples entire job is to try and discourage people from voting. They'll use our language and our causes against us.

Research everyone and every measure on your ballot. Ballotpedia is a great resource and you can often also see what organizations are backing certain ballot measures. Good way to tell if something that sounds fine is secretly terrible. Ugh.

I facebook stalk the school board candidates (that's the social media of choice for most of them) and its a good way to find out what they ACTUALLY support.

Everyones a liar, just a matter of how much and what about.

Very exciting!!! (very scary)

I have already seen an influx of people in my age and even, unfortunately, those who are older and SHOULD be wiser discouraging voting all together. I think it's a real shame and shows a genuine lack of knowledge on what voting is, why it matters, and why we do it to begin with when elections seem to suck more and more each year. As a reminder I've recently started repeating, "YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE TO PROPAGANDA."

It's so easy to stick your head in the sand and be unaware but it's so harmful to yourself and obviously to others. When I was in middle school I did volunteer work for my local House of Reps. candidate, and a Senator, seemingly lovely people until you're working 30 hours a week at 11 years old and hearing them talk about how they actually feel....yikes! One big issue I've seen growing up is idolizing politicians like they're in boybands or some ridiculous thing instead of largely important figures who make decisions that impact our lives in our own country as well as others. Horrifying, but a part of life today until we decide to do something about it.

I look forward to a hopefully better election year, and the four years that follow it.

QOTD: Do you have a favorite shape? If so, why that one?

When I was younger it was a star because in year 1 (about 5-6 years old) we learnt about shapes. Our teacher asked if we knew what a ten sided shape was called. Me, being the obnoxious child I was, shouted out 'star'. And it was technically correct for a five point star.

I'm pretty sure that's where my live of maths originated, and now I'm studying chemical engineering, so I guess star is my fave shape :)
