Haaaiii I saw your latest post and I’m one of those people who kinda helped make Yesvic popular again xD So anyway do you have any headcanons about the two? I’d love to hear them :3

OH MY GOSH hi!! :D!!!!

*cracks my knuckles* And oh boy, where do I even begin?

BUCKLE UP, I’m putting it under a break to not take up a ton of space! THIS POST IS VERY, VERY LONG! That is your only warning - I'm basically dumping our entire lore here. XD

I would also like to put some trigger warnings about mentions of abuse / assault , violence and specifically gun violence. proceed with caution please!

I would like to start off with some important notes: - My friend I, who I’ve made all these headcanons with, refer to Yes Man with she/her! We see her as a trans woman so hopefully everyone will be respectful of that here <3 -Adding to note above... we hc them as lesbians, which may be "weird" to some of y'all, but please be respectful of this as well. - A lot of our headcanons and story are with my own courier oc, Éxi (they/them!) and is an Independent Vegas story. Explanation on Vic later. - Yes Man goes by the nickname “Yessie”, and I love to imagine Victor gave that to her, she loves it so much she never refers to herself as Yes Man anymore. (And with that, I can finally refer to her as Yessie for the rest of the post... LOL.) - Almost everything we type is also related to the human/synth versions of them along with their securitron bodies. Some things are human specific and we'll clarify when. Note: the human au for them is just a daily slice-of-life thing that we think about for comfort, when we want to imagine them happy and only happy! - A lot of this is NOT canon-compliant. It is in a sense but if something is "off" from the "canon" I would prefer no arguing over it. This is something we made for ourselves (and maybe others) to enjoy! Very much "canon divergence"!

P.S. My friend Abby made a LOT of these headcanons with me, so I wanted to give a shout out to her + she wrote out 90% of this... I asked her to write out some and she ended up doing, well, EVERY headcanon we made, minus some small tidbits. HAHA. Thank you, my dear friend, Abby!

ANYWAYS LETS FINALLY BEGIN! Let's out start out with info for the two ~

About Yessie:

TRAUMATIZED BROKEN WOMAN. THE NICEST PERSON YOU WILL EVER MEET BUT IS SO TORN DOWN.

You know what? No, here's all her diagnoses: Autism, generalized anxiety disorder, CPTSD, OSDD-1b.

She's a lesbian and has severe trauma with men. I'm just going to be blunt, we despise yesbenny due to how we've made Yessie's backstory, so you won't be seeing any of it in this, sorry. In most AUs we've made regarding YesVic, Benny dies. Each and every time. Usually by Yessie's hands. Or he doesn't exist at all. It's cool if you like it, it's just not for us!!

She's a trans woman! She prefers stealth and doesn't like talking about it. She finds the comfort of the closet safer, but she's very open about being a lesbian.

Jewish.

Falloutverse: She was kept in a tiny room with no natural light or way out. The only person she could communicate with was Benny, who is, bluntly, her abuser. The courier rescues her, but after the events of Hoover Dam, she's been really clammy when Benny or The Tops comes up...

Humanverse: She was a showgirl for Benny, his favorite too. Forbidden from leaving The Tops. Forbidden from talking to the cowboy that's really nice to her. After years of abuse, she randomly snaps and impulsively shoots Benny in the head over and over. Runs before anyone could find and catch her, luckily Victor found her first. Benny's murder is never solved.

Despite being a "Yes Man," there's no particular reason for her to be chipper while saying yes to everything. Originally, it started as a coping mechanism to cope with her shitty life & to mask, but she truly faked it until she made it and now she's always that chipper.

Since she has access to House's network, she often spends time looking into his archived photos, videos, books, just whatever she can do to pass time. Words her CPU especially likes: love, family, childhood, happiness

She is autistic about dinosaurs. Yes, she loves the Novac dinosaur, and she is the proud owner of all of their dinosaur stock. Cliff is relieved. In humanverse, she owns a lot of dinosaur onesies.

About Victor:

While he hasn't had the easiest life, it looks like a breeze compared to the horrors Yessie has seen.

Diagnosed with ADHD and PCOS. Nothing else.

Lesbian. Extreme butch. Prefers to identify as a man but in a lesbian way. He doesn't mind she/her, but would really prefer he/him. Takes low doses of testosterone.

Will not take ANY shit if you try to imply he's a fake lesbian or actually a trans man. He knows what he is, and he is very comfortable in his skin, thank you very much.

Jane and Marilyn are his sisters! He's actually the youngest of the three. He is very, very close with his sisters, and they love him very much too. Marilyn is often busy these days, so he mostly hangs out with Jane.

Falloutverse: Lived a normal life until he was deactivated by The Courier. After Hoover Dam, he was brought back. He was not happy with either The Courier or Yessie at first, but realized that they only wanted to help and House wasn't the best person.

Humanverse: House is his dad that owns a very prestigious business in Las Vegas, but Victor chose to follow his grandpappy's footsteps and take over the family farm, where he and Jane were raised. While taking a drive at night, he saw Yessie battered up on the side of the road. He rushed her home and she's lived there in peace since.

Has an issue with overworking himself and taking on more projects than he can actually handle.

Respects the land, very, very heavily. What he takes, he will replace. If he can't replace, he only takes what he needs.

Despite his ties with House, he's surprisingly... neutral, on everything. He says what he must about House, but is in his own world most of the time.

Prefers it in Goodsprings. The flashiness of Vegas isn't for him. As for humanverse, he's the same. Hates city vacations.

The one thing he's scared of is heights. Not when he's in the Lucky 38, but when he's on a cliff and there's nothing to protect him.

About Yesvic itself (finally.)

Yessie is a high femme, Victor is butch butch butch very butch. They are femme 4 butch, this is very important to us! Victor is a he/him masculine butch lesbian, Yessie is a very feminine she/her lesbian. They conform to traditional gender roles (Victor is the man, Yessie is the woman in the relationship) because it is comfortable for them, and that's how they want to live, but know that it's in a lesbian way.

Their relationship dynamic is very... traditional 60s nuclear family, but without the spouse abuse and only pure love. Yessie and Victor love each other VERY much. Disgustingly in love with each other. While Yessie takes care of things at home, Victor does everything else, and Victor would have it no other way because in his words "my puddin' shouldn't have to do anything".

This doesn't make Yessie useless, though. Getting on Yessie's bad side is the last thing you want.

They both have a kill count. Just because Yessie's is less than five doesn't mean you should underestimate her.

Victor spoil spoil spoiiilllsss Yessie. The world is hers, in his mind. She is the queen and she should get everything she wants. This is majorly due to how she was treated before they got together.

Yessie does not like to talk about her life before she met Victor. They do not bring it up. They had a long conversation about it once and it is to never be brought up again. The B word (Benny) is especially banned. It's also banned with Exi unless absolutely necessary.

Victor's southern way of speaking has influenced the way Yessie speaks.

Victor and Yessie adopted Muggy. Muggy is their child. This post is about Yesvic though, the Muggy lore runs so deep it needs another post. (Ash note: FEEL FREE TO ASK ME FOR MY MUGGY HCS PLEASE GOD)

Despite being a wealthy couple, Victor prefers to live under his means. Yessie, however, is a bit spoiled and prefers grand things. For example, in humanverse Victor only drives a truck that's a couple decades old, but would buy Yessie a luxury car from the current year.

Some things Victor will not budge on however. He believes in "happy wife, happy life" but sometimes he'll put his foot down if he thinks it's a bit too ridiculous. (example, gold covered foods or tourist traps)

While Victor is the stronger one out of the two, there is nothing more dangerous than when Yessie snaps or gets angry. She is extremely cold and calculating when she needs to be.

Yessie tends to bottle up how she feels until she explodes. While Victor wishes she wouldn't do this and is working with her to communicate her feelings better, he understands given her past and loves her all the same.

They rarely fight. They get into petty squabbles very often, but a genuine, serious fight is rare. They have seriously fought only 2 times.

Petty squabbles is one of their many love languages. Victor always wins them, but he lets Yessie think she's right sometimes because he loves seeing her look accomplished.

Humanverse specific yesvic things (for funsies)

Yessie prefers iPhones and is deep in the Apple ecosystem. Victor has a flip phone and that's it.

Victor despises modern technology. He does not have social media, he does not have a smartphone, and when he needs to access the Internet he uses the family computer in the living room.

The smart tv in their house is only there because Yessie swapped their TVs while Victor was working. Despite being pissed at first, he's pretty neutral on it now. "The TV shouldn't need the internet, puddin'!"

Neither of them are really video games people. Yessie loves her Candy Crush, and Muggy got her interested in FNAF and Splatoon.

Victor thinks the FNAF animatronics are very creepy.

Yessie is Victor's housewife and does zero farm work, Muggy and his spouse (my oc. long story. re:Muggy lore post needed.) helps him instead. However, she does know emergency first-aid and knows how to do most of the basic tasks. "What happens if Victor dies and Yessie is left alone without knowing how to take care of the farm?" Yessie will die without Victor period.

They live off of the food that Victor farms, its also his livelihood. Muggy later invents something that would make them billionaires (minus House's money), but Victor donates off a majority of it.

Muggy does eventually move out and Victor builds a mini-house for him. Mugs is the type of person to prefer tiny living, unlike Yessie.

Random assorted tidbits

Abby often compare Yessie to Rapunzel. A lot. Princess (Yessie) in the high tower (The Tops). I guess when you think about it, they're really similar to Flynn Rider and Rapunzel. That or any general story where a princess needs to be rescued, Victor is always the hero. We know it should be The Courier, but we are delusional and we don't care!

A lot of Yessie's trauma is admittedly based on Abby's. She feels like most depictions of trauma are unrealistic or she genuinely just cannot relate. Yessie is what she can relate to. (Ash note: basically, just be respectful of how Yes Man is written.)

Yessie has severe trauma with kidnapping, small enclosed spaces, and crowds.

Abby did not write more Muggy lore because that, in itself, is so god damn complicated and would need its own post. She would have to go over his time at Big MT, his adoption, reintroduction to society... maybe another time. (Ash note: That is something for me to do as Muggy is my favorite securitron. LOL. If asked I can loredump for him as well!)

We have a few AUs for them, they also have their own backstory. The most notable is humanverse, au where they're mermaids for some reason, and a cyberpunk retelling of FNV. (Ash note: the cyberpunk one is my fave. it's really cool.)

Abby admittedly has more experience with the Japanese copy of FNV at this point as she's been picking bits and pieces of it apart, and Yessie is a bit of a sweetheart and lovebug there. She has hyperanalyzed all of the Securitrons dialogue from the English versions too.

EXTRA STORY NOTES/EXPLANATIONS:

"How did Victor get back online?": Exi, my courier oc, is a very skilled mechanic and engineer. Very techy person. They are able to free Victor from his connection to House and bring him back online. As stated earlier, Victor is very unhappy about it at first, but he learns to mellow out over time. (And of course that should go to explain we don't agree with the idea that Victor is just House himself. so like... please don't try to argue about "the lore" or anything here. these are headcanons about gay robots?)

Relating to above, this is also how they get "synth" bodies - Exi creates them! It's moreso an au/extension of our "fnv canon" stuff?

Muggy?: The Big Mt. is practically Exi's paradise and they were overjoyed to take it over. Muggy caught their interest, of course, robots being their favorite thing in the world. They were able to bring the little fucker back to the Mojave... Muggy doesn't particularly care for it, but he's fine spending his days as a busboy in the Lucky38.

and that's pretty much all I can think of for now!

there's more stuff with my OCs and other characters, but of course this was just a YESVIC headcanon post, haha.

I’ve been procrastinating on making an update for forever so I’m just gonna do a me-info dump here. Ignore it if you wish. If you want, just scroll to the end for the cat pictures.

Firstly: I feel bad about not posting anything in so long so I’m gonna put some of my recent notebook pages here.

Cool. Nextly, I’m gonna complain. Stop yourselves in, folks.

I’m allergic to a lot of things. Dust, pollen, dogs, cats, and birds to name some. Where I am currently staying, there are two cats and a rooftop full of pet birds. Because of the bird issue, my face swelled up. (Under my eyes mostly. My right eye was particularly bad.) So guess who got to go to the doctor on vacation???? Me! It’s me. After that, I was put on 3 medicines for day and night for 3 days. However, one of the meds I was taking was too strong to be taken twice a day and I was struck with strong waves of nausea. And you know what happened next?? I got put on medicine to cure my medicine. Guys this is so funny to me, I actually cannot keep a straight face anymore. I mean, not that I could before, but… ANYWAY. I was given 3 more pills to take and ummmm I may or may not have forgotten to take them last night/this morning. But anyway I think that I should cure my too-much-medicine-for-my-weak-self problem by NOT taking more medicine but I’m not an expert I guess.

Sorry, I’m done now.

Also, I saw this:

and I thought it was milk and I started cracking up because the allergen information says contains milk and that’s really funny to me cuz no duh it has milk in it but maybe that’s just me.

It was yogurt. Not milk.

Also also, I left a water bottle in the freezer overnight because I wanted cold water yesterday but then I forgot about it and this morning I woke up and it was just a large block of ice in the bottle. I’m fairly sure I’m going insane because I found that really funny too.

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for~ Cat pictures!!

The other kitty, Zoobie is actual royalty and oh my gosh I love her. (Even though I’m teeechnically not allowed to touch her but shhhhhhh) Look at her gorgeous eyes. Also there’s a Jerry somewhere in there that was too cute not to add in.

Her name is fun to say. Zoobiedoobiedoo.

Gosh! I'm sorry, I didn't expect to be this busy in those few weeks AGH BUT! I wanna continue these doodles info dumps for "The Lighthouse" merfolk AU so, I hope you all enjoy it!

To compensate a bit, there you got chibi-kiddo Merfolk!Lockdown with a tail bow ♥ (how and WHO was brave enough to put it to him is a mystery... ).

Anyways! Today we will talk about the general behavior of these critters when dealing with the dry-land-walkers:

★ (Merfolk are mostly nocturnal, and so with their vision adapted perfectly to navigate spaces with low to null lighting).

"That means too they are highly sensitive to direct sources of light. That's why we needed to divide our lab in half with an area that's always in the dark for them to be comfortable while we study them."

Episode 38: Happy Endings

I'm gonna be doing chores while I listen to these three episodes, so sorry if the notes get a bit brief.

This Hilbert and Doug morality debate is funny because it's literally one actor debating with himself.

I'm sad Hera can't be a part of the group.

"2am"? How is it 2am? You're...you're not on earth. I understand keeping up with a schedule, but it's still a little weird, what time zone are they following?

The way Hilbert talks about Sam... it's like he has this shred of humanity left inside him that he's just gotten used to ignoring.

And Hilbert, I have a clear answer to your little "trolley problem": the decima virus is CUTTER'S property. He put that in your contract, or have you forgotten? Do you seriously think that man will be using it for the good of humanity? Because I don't.

I also feel like the "No one gets a happy ending/ there are no happy endings" think is foreshadowing. But I hope I am wrong.

IS THIS THAT WEIRD DOOR???? FINALLY! Bah-ha just shove him in! At least it’s not the airlock which is what I was expecting.

Easter egg? Cutter, this is the worst easter themed scavenger hunt I've ever heard of. Where are the chocolate bunnies? The jellybeans? The message of hope, love, and rebirth? But I suppose I should expect nothing else from the man who ordered the killing of three people on Christmas. Makes you wonder what Cutter has against holidays. Did mommy and daddy not give someone enough presents?

“The other crew has... gone away like last time” Cutter you suck. Seriously his villain mode does not have an off switch.

What does Cutter want with his brain? An old friend made this for him?? Is it the dude he killed or is it the Pryce person he wrote the book with? Makes me wonder where his mysterious friend is hiding. In the shadows at Cutter's right hand or six feet underground with a knife in the back? Not sure which is worse. I guess we'll see.

THEY CAN SCAN HIS BRAIN AND GET THAT KIND OF INFO? That...but...I...as someone who knows slightly more than average about how the brain works, Cutter needs to learn how to make better use of his tech. I cannot even BEGIN to tell you how much better his evil plans would go, if he focused on THAT instead of...oh I don't know...investing his money into elaborate dark rooms with evil dentist chairs and slow clap videos?

Also "Hera can't detect these secret rooms" HOW. HOW CAN SHE NOT THAT'S AN AWFUL IDEA: She flies the ship, she has to calculate for its size. It's science fiction, so let me be 100% clear, I'm not dumping on the creators or writers, I'm dumping on Cutter the character. You idiot.

Oh he’s just leaving him in space. Oh...Hilbert will come around in the hopes that he’ll use decima to help people. That's cruel. “Thanks for all the memories” Cutter. DUDE. Too much.

Do not give him your memories. Do not Hilbert.

oh I love these stories. Why do I feel like Minkowski's is gonna be the most realistic. Like, I can see Doug making lightsaber noises, and I can see Jacobi being a little arrogant. Just...maybe a little exaggerated.

Oh my gosh Jacobi's story. 😂😂😂 The way he's portraying Doug is way too much.

“But the button is so shiny! 🥺” PFFT- the way Jacobi portrays Doug... I'm sorry for laughing but it's too funny😂

Doug, if you made a fictional podcast about your time in space I would listen to it. It sounds amazing.

Why is Minkowski doing a different accent now? WHY IS HERA THE VILLAIN SUDDENLY DOING A ROBOT UPRISING? 😂

"Is there any truth to your story?" Um...yeah? I'm pretty sure there were donuts in multiple stories Kelper 🙄

I agree. Doug was taking them straight to truth town and Whiskey boy shut down the railways. All because discount Cutter can't handle the truth. Big surprise.

Geez man okay.

And Doug's story was not a time waste. It was delightful. Just because discount Cutter is evil doesn't mean he has to be the fun police.

Episode 40: Limbo

"Lob of meat" well you don't have to say it like that Hera.

"I can't think of a single way to prank everyone else" Doug. Jacobi is afraid of ducks. You are sitting on a gold mine.

Ugh this is awful because I can't tell if Hera's compliance with Maxwell is programmed or not! It's so scary that her free will can just be...programmed out.

Maxwell. Why are you interrogating her? Hera. Do not turn on your friends. Maxwell. You BETTER be trying to help.

I'm very worried about Hera. Is Kepler going to shut her down?

Good on you Hera. She deserves to know the truth.

...oh no.

Maybe I'm misremembering this, but was it Maxwell or Lovelace who said "if only Hera knew the truth" a few episodes back? I'm really suspicious about how Cutter and co. treat the AIs and what they want with them.

Hera. Talk to Doug about it. Just let him know you're scared. He'll be there for you.

Hera please let your friends help you. Please let them help you. AND LEAVE HERA ALONE STOP OVERWHELMING HER! She clearly has...whatever the AI equivalent of anxiety is.

I feel so bad for Hera. I swear. Whatever Cutter has planned for her...he will pay for this.

Hera offline? NOOOOOO...

Maxwell you kinda got in her head.

But everyone has problems. And Hera is more than a robot computer. She's a friend. You can't just shut her down!

I KNEW IT. A panic attack. She has anxiety 🥺. Poor Hera.

I hope Maxwell can save Hera. She has to! Hera can't die now. We already went through that, and she deserves to be happy.

But I do get the feeling that might not happen. For anyone.

You know, as I go back and edit this, I gotta say, in some ways Kepler is like an evil version of Doug. They both clearly like alcohol and substances (Kepler's "I like the feel of it in my hand" and Doug's "I just want to hold the cigarette"), but Doug wants to get better while Kepler clearly doesn't. "You're like this Whiskey see? I'd be sad without it but I'd be okay." And then he risks the life of his crew for it. You sure you don't have a bit of problem Whiskey boy? 👀

Did Billy and Steve have to go through what Finnick had too after the games? How did Billy get the name the tiger? What were their experiences like inside their games? Did they join career packs? Have allies? A Rue situation? What was their training score? Their skills? What was it like being reaped? Especially when Billy has a sister of reaping age? What was it like living without each other only seeing each other a few days each year except maybe through the monitored phones in the victor houses? Did they starve and suffer in their districts before their wins?

This is literally the best ask I have ever received so buckle up for some info dumping because I planned this AU out years ago with my sister at like 2am while on holiday lmao.

Yes. Yes they did but Billy more so as for a few years after winning Steve dated a series of girls in his district to try and avoid what he had heard whispers of. Billy didn't have the advantage of information and soon found himself being transported to the Capital for whoever had requested his services.

He basically went feral in the arena and killed his way through it threw pure rage and fear. Just like a Tiger he stalked the other tributes and attacked them getting the upper hand through surprise mostly and his strength. Shock attacks but he definitely held his own a few times as well.

As said, Billy went beast mode and killed anyone he ran into until no one was left and he won. Fear and anger being a constant emotion throughout but due to his killing spree it didn't last very long since no one had the chance to hide for long before he found them. Only Max moves in with Billy as his father isn't invited and Susan stays with him. Steve, however, charmed his way into sponsors and kept to himself only killing those who attacked him first. Shame and guilt occupied his mind throughout as his family name was being dragged through the mud by the son who chose to hide rather than fight but when he was crowned that was all washed away and he went on to live in victor's village alone while his family stayed at home.

Neither of them did but Billy was approached multiple times.

Billy planned to die in the arena before he realised he could actually win and went on his rampage so no but Steve did befriend a few of the other tributes before entering the game. However, they all either died before he could find them or actively attacked him.

Billy got somewhere between 8-9 for his strength, climbing abilities and axe work. Steve got 6-7 for his fighting abilities but didn't really impress anyone.

Billy is very good at sneaking because of his home life and he can deal with injuries due to being used to it. He is strong from being a lumberjack but doesn't care for accuracy in battle and just goes in for the swing. He can climb anything and that becomes very useful when surprise attacking other tributes. Steve is observant and good with people. Strong but more smart in fights as he doesn't have the instinctive rage like Billy. He's good with a weapon but not so much his bare hands.

Steve was reaped and he couldn't move but somehow walked up to the stage smiled at the cameras and it didn't sink in until he was on the train and he went into full on panic attack mode. Billy laughed. Of course it would be him, of course when he was almost safe.

Billy had a few of his name in there from getting extra food because of course Max couldn't but he never actually thought he would get reaped.

They definitely had a code system to get away with saying things over the phone. Like "I hope I get some good tributes this year" meaning "I cant wait to see you" or "I miss the Capitol" meaning "I miss you". Stuff like that which would sound like they love the games but in fact they only continue to mentor to see each other. It would be difficult. Especially the guilt of their happiest moments coming at the cost of dead children and Billy finds that very hard to deal with.

Steve's family had money. His parents both being quite important in the energy sector and he was expected to follow in their footsteps but didn't pass any tests or qualify for higher up positions. Billy's mother died when he was 10 and then Max and Susan moved in soon after as Neil couldn't deal with raising him alone and wanted someone to run the house while he worked in lumber making just enough to feed everyone but he still used Billy to get extra food and the day Billy turned 14 he was dragged out of school and an axe was put in his hands.

I could keep going with lore lmao but its 3am and I've ran out of questions to answer so hopefully this answers them!

I always thought with the MJ stealth sections, instead of playing as MJ and occasionally directing Spider-Man to web up or distract a bad guy, you should have played as Spidey on ceiling, dealing with all the goons and only giving MJ the go ahead when its safe. They'd still probably be painful, but at least this way you'd get to play as SPIDER-MAN in the SPIDER-MAN GAME!

I think MJ and Spidey worked together exactly once and that was in Grand Central against Li. I mean they also kinda worked together against Sable in the Oscorp tower but I don’t think that really counts because Peter only jumped in at the last second.

BUT anyway!!! I enjoyed them working together. Being able to direct Spider Man to take out enemies was nice. But that was only once and the rest of the stealth sections were just excruciatingly painful.

I might just not be a patient person but having to play as MJ and Miles and distract the baddies to run by- crossing my fingers and hoping I wasn’t seen was the hardest and most tense part of the game for me XD

I think it was frustrating because there was no one to take anyone down and giving MJ a taser was really nice in the last stealth mission. I think that helplessness was part of the narrative though- that MJ and Peter needed to figure out how to work together. MJ dies/is caught too easily because she’s is a regular human being, but she also has the ability to make Spider Man take downs more efficient such as in the Grand Central station scenario.

I get it, the point they were trying to make (and they did it very well) was that they had to work together- that MJ had to realize she could be a liability and that Peter had to realize that she was capable of helping him out... but also yeah, I want to play as spider man XD

Fantasyland is so pretty, holy frick.

Hasn’t even been a year since I last drew her, but here we are. I actually changed up my drawing process quite a bit for this one. I now draw two circles and an overlay to guide the actual head and eye drawings now. Other than that, I made a significant design change since last time. She now has floofy hair. I will explain why she has it in my bottom paragraph (fear it), but I think she looks better with curly hair than straight hair. Her wings are now in the shape of Tinkerbell’s in the “Walt Disney Presents: Disneyland” TV show from 1954 and 55, but actually colored.

Alright, so, her girlfriend is Tomorrowland, and they are very gay. They have a cat that they keep stealing from each other that is based off of the Matterhorn (get it?).

Tomorrowland is an inventor, so she has a lot of retro-futuristic tech, but she is also a hair stylist as a reference to that one out-of-context scene in the Magic Kingdom’s PeopleMover, and like Fantasyland used to just style her hair with magic (keeping it straight and such), but Tomorrowland made a chrome-covered machine that does perms, and Fantasyland wanted her girlfriend to have fun with it, so now Tomorrowland gives Fantasyland perms and such and hhhhhhh!

I thought of a drawing in which Tomorrowland and like the machine has perm coils that are heated through wires and such, and you can visibly see gay panic on Tomorrowland while Fantasyland is just smiling and happy to allow her girlfriend experiment. Gay gay homoromantic gay. And it gets me excited for when I get my hair bleached and permed and hhhhhh.

I am very sorry for that.

i definitely will!! it has some of the coziest eccentric furniture ever omg :') and i actually haven't played it myself yet; when it came out i watched jacksepticeye play it on youtube and i really liked it, but enough time has passed for me to feel like i can get the full experience again if i play it for myself, so i picked it up when it was on sale!! what i do remember though is how creative and completely unique the storytelling is. "walking simulators" can sometimes be so full of info-dumps, but i never felt like that with this game - it literally feels like you're putting a puzzle together and it's so unlike any other game in the genre imo!! i'm really excited to play it myself and be fully immersed!

I'm posting this under a read-more since I have a feeling this is gonna end up being a long obnoxious post lmaooo

Okay so to start I have two Marvel ocs,

This girls name's Francesca Embers, she's a pyrokinetic superhero, who affiliates herself with The Avengers. She used to be a spy until she got captured and was experimented on (that's how she got her powers.)

She has worked alongside The Avengers since 2015, to help bring down Ultron in Sokovia. After offereing her help to track down the Winter Soldier she ended up on team Cap during Civil war.

Between Civil War and Infinity War/Engame she develops a relastionship with The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes and then goes on to work alongside him along with Sam Wilson/Falcon/Captain America with the events of TFATWS.

(This is just a basic run-through of her story though)

Then I also have this girl, who's name is Nadine Reynolds

and she is kind of the bad-gal in Francesca's story, she used to be a close friend of Francesca's but she was also captured and experimented on and would be exposed to the powers of The Mind Stone (this is how she got her powers of Telekenisis and Enegy Magic) and used by Hydra to cause chaos.

She's a fairly new oc though so I'm still working on aspects of her story.

And now we move on to my oldest ocs The Rockets,

The girls are my oldest ocs, I created them when I was like 12/13? so they've been with me for just over 10 years and basically their whole story is that they're a fun and funky cool girl-band (called The Rockets.) I think I was inspired by all those girly tv-shows and cartoons that I loved growing up (like Winx Club, W.I.T.C.H, and those Bratz cartoons from the ealry-mid 00s)

Do you have any advice for someone who's never been in a cheese shop before, like a good beginner cheese if that makes sense? Thank you so much!

Hm, okay, lemme try. I have ‘beginner’ cheeses I recommend to customers, so I’m kind of prepared for this question. It’s harder to do without the cheese options right in front of me, because the stock varies so much from store to store. I’ll try to go with our most popular ones. I apologize now for the following info-dump. (oh my gosh you said ‘cheese’ singular, I thought you said ‘cheeses’ plural oh my gosh I’ve written too much but it’s too late I’m so sorry I hope you’re not overwhelmed)

Cheddar: most people are used to the firm mild and sharp. To try something different, look for aged white cheddar (there are a lot of kinds but if it says ‘aged’ you’re in the right place. The one I specifically recommend tho is Aged English Cheddar). Those will be sharp and crumbly and typically have developed tiny crystals from aging so there’s a delightfully subtle crunch

Gouda: there are so so many goudas. I suggest a block of smoked gouda, or a plain mild Red Wax. My favorite gouda is Parrano which is smooth and been aged to have a Parmesan bite to it, but that might be intermediate level

melting cheeses: mozzarella and monterey jack are well known melting cheeses. Getting a little fancier, Swiss Cave-Aged Gruyere. It’s very popular, we sell a ton. It’s a little bit like swiss but with a strong nutty flavor. It melts to a near liquid so it’s the go-to fondue cheese, but a lot of people use it for soup, casseroles, or just grilled cheese sandwiches. Something milder would be Fontina, which is an Italian cheese, mild but more flavorful than mozzarella and is really nice for snacking on

Brie (Bloomy Rinds): Any of the little wheels are a good start. They’re usually double-creme (a richness rating) which is the basic starting point. Rich, buttery, spreadable, reeeelly good with fruit preserves. Use it like butter or cream cheese, spread it on your toast, or a fresh baguette, put on a beret, gaze at the Eiffel Tower as you eat

Blues: a very controversial cheese. The rule of thumb is that the more blue it has the stronger it will be. Look for something more white than blue for milder options. We have Black River Blue, that’s our mildest. Try it with honey or fruit, it balances out the strong saltiness. (*whispering* I don’t like them)

okay, bonus info. If you ever see a line of cheeses called BellaVitano try it. Especially the Merlot. The base cheese is a light Parmesan type and the edible rinds have been soaked in different flavors. Merlot, Bourbon, Balsamic, Espresso, Chardonnay, somewhere out there is Raspberry and someday I will find it and I will try it . . . all of them are Really Good. An appreciation of wine and alcohol is not necessary to appreciate these cheeses

bonus bonus info: there is not a cheese known to man that does not pair well with fresh green grapes or slices of apple (whichever variety you prefer). As well there is no cheese you cannot just cut up and snack on. (Parmesan? Try it with pears). Always buy in blocks, not slices. I don’t have the science but I think pre-sliced are messed with to get the desired slice-ability.. If you’re melting a cheese go ahead and shred it. Melts faster and more evenly.

REALLY into rantaro pairings. like. the only rantaro pairings i don’t like all that much are am*cha, rantaro/himiko, amaguuji (sorry lgbt community), and ranmugi. the rest i’m either open to or obsessed with. so like. bear that in mind when you read this.

i’m going to rank rantaro relationships by how much i love them so i can get an order to this (and also so i can do amamota last because i have a lot to say).

rantaro + korekiyo (2.5/10) oh gosh. kiyo, i’m so sorry a dumb bitch like me would do you like this. listen, amaguuji is a good pairing, just, objectively. i used to be super into it. but then the fandom crabwalked all over me with their amaguuji hurt/comfort fics and i got so Tired of seeing rantaro get treated like a security blacket... eugh. amaguuji is a good ship. i have written amaguuji, and would write it again, without prompting. i’m just... so tired.

they’d get along! obviously they would get along, we’ve seen their canon interactions, we’ve all slurped up as much rantaro tdp content as we were able to get, we know the tea. rantaro is passive and not easily creeped out, so he’d be able to look past all the unsettling things about kiyo, and similarly, kiyo is understanding and not pushy, so rantaro would be able to vibe around him without being asked about his secrets, or his travels, or anything that he doesn’t want anybody else to know. i like the aesthetic of them sitting around and drinking tea together, just, vibing like bros. kiyo infodumps to rantaro. rantaro fucking loves it. they’re best friends.

kiibo is one of those characters who i think engages with you based on how you engage with him. i don’t mean that he’s a code switcher, (at least not a notorious one), but he’s emotional, and he’ll give back as much as you put in. if you treat him poorly, he’ll respond with anger and indignity. if you treat him with kindness and respect, he’ll respond similarly. which is why i think he and rantaro would really get along! rantaro is relaxed and kind and non-judgmental, and kiibo is the kind of person who needs chill vibes, so i think they’d have a lot of fun hanging out. rantaro is also the type of guy to get his friends a lot of gifts, and i think kiibo would be overwhelmed at like, the thoughtfulness that goes into that, and would grow really fond of rantaro accordingly. they’re sweet! amiibo rights, even if the first time i saw it my gut reaction was “wait, huh?”

rantaro + ryoma (5/10) this is another one of those ones where the rating was cucked because i don’t see a lot of them interacting and there’s not enough fandom content for me to really be in love with it. five is like, a solid neutral rating. i could swing either way. probably more for the positive though; i fucking love ryoma.

another one of those duos where they kind of just, vibe. honestly i don’t know if they’d get too close, if only because rantaro is gone so often he doesn’t really have the time to work on tearing down ryoma’s walls, and ryoma similarly is so tired he’s like, he doesn’t have the energy to try and figure out what the fuck is up with rantaro. unlike with amamota, rantaro and ryoma both have things that trouble them from their past, but the difference is that like, ryoma is so open about it? he’s not closed off. he won’t let people get close, but sure, he’ll tell them exactly why they shouldn’t. rantaro is the complete opposite, all sunny smiles and subject changes. this isn’t to say that they wouldn’t get along! i think they’d get along fantastically. sometimes when rantaro is just feeling so fucking tired, he’d pop by ryoma’s dorm for a candy cigarette and a casual conversation, and they’d chill. or maybe rantaro tells people to let ryoma have his space sometimes. just. vibing in solidarity. they’re bros! they’re bros.

rantaro + miu (6/10) full disclosure: i love them. leila i am so sorry that a dumb bitch like me would do this friendship like this. i’m just looking at the list and thinking “oh no i love them all” and when it comes to like, my favourite characters, unfortunately, miu had to go on the chopping block. i love them. feel like shit just want egg rp miu and rantaro back.

god! this is another one of those where like, rantaro isn’t judgmental (but he is firm!) so he and miu would get along really well. rantaro is really patient and he like, goes with the flow, so he and miu would be able to have conversations and he’d either shut down or tune out the sex jokes, actually carrying the conversation based on what she’s saying. miu is pretty chill, like, at least i feel like she’d be a really chill friend? so rantaro would be able to make insensitive jokes about how he just got stabbed and miu would be like “KYAHAHAHA you’re such a fuckin moron come to my lab i’ll make you a drink or some shit” and they’d just be cool. they’d just be cool! i want them to be best friends. please. just. two pals who spill tea and come to each other to make dark jokes. also miu cries into rantaro’s shoulder sometimes and he braids her hair fuck you i doooo what i want.

but then maybe like! an accident will happen, and tenko falls over, and rantaro reaches to help her but she freaks and grabs his arm and flips him over and then BOOM!!! neo aikido magic things and she sees all his fucking stress, all his distrust, just how much he really blames himself for everything, how afraid and angry and tired he is, and we all know tenko is super compassionate so i think she would absolutely be worried about it. and then i think she’d like! keep an eye out for rantaro, at the very least try and get confirmation on all those emotions because this pretty boy soooo does not act like it, and then maybe one time she sees him getting grilled on his travels, or he comes back injured and tenko finds him, and she bails him out, begrudgingly, and then they start to become friends.

idk! i think they have platonic potential. i think rantaro would see her as a sister and i think tenko would eventually ask rantaro if he’s really a guy. rantaro + tsumugi (8/10) (looks at ibuki poster) oh mioda, we’re really in it now. and by that i mean, god it’s so fucking hard to choose favourites from here FKJDSLFKJ i have almost all the girls just, up here, because i’m so fucking fond of their relationships with rantaro. and i know i said i don’t like ranmugi or rantaro/himiko, and it’s true, but i am obsessed with their platonic relationships with him. ESPECIALLY when tsumugi and rantaro are one-sided enemies.... that’s such good shit, holy crap.

okay, let me explain. i feel like rantaro and tsumugi can swing both ways, here. they can either be really good friends! like, rantaro is mellow so he lets tsumugi put him into cosplay (i think rantaro would make a really good n off the top of my head since they’re both green FLKJDSFKJ or light yagami..... handsome men) and since he loves listening to people info dump he just... lets tsumugi go fucking OFF about anime sometimes FKJDSLKFJ i think it would be sweet! i think tsumugi could give rantaro a place to unwind, because she’s so like, hard to phase, i guess? like tsumugi and rantaro share that trait where if you hit either of them in the face with a pie, they’d just go “oh, funky” and go to wash their clothes LMAO. power duo! they’re brother and sister! and i headcanon mugi as a lesbian so she talks to rantaro about ~girls~ sometimes. also u already know tsumugi got tea to spill so rantaro helps with her hair for a cosplay while she gossips KFJDLK honestly why aren’t she miu and rantaro a trio? i just think they’d be neat. good friends! best friends.

rantaro + angie (8/10) i love these two and these rankings are? so difficult for me, i am going to cry, you guys get the idea about me being a rantaro stan, right? i hope you do because god i love him so much. and i love him with angie! man. okay. okay.

so like. first of all. angie climbing onto rantaro’s back? perfect. she’s in need of piggy back rides and rantaro will gladly give them. rantaro is so patient and like, hhh i don’t want to use the word pliable because of horny people but that’s the best one i can come up with? like, he just goes with the flow, y’know? angie is so high strung, platonically i think she works really well with people who are patient and indulgent. i don’t know if rantaro would be much for her as far as fulfilling her loneliness, because angie is sort of looking for someone who Wouldn’t indulge her that much, but i’m absolutely weak for their dynamic. just, angie bringing up wacky ideas, rantaro responding with mild skepticism but also listening to her. i think she’d cause some trouble and he would be entirely here for it. bless them, honestly.

rantaro + shuichi (8/10) before you come at me like “but toxic! amasai is your otp!” it’s not, okay? it used to be. but due to negative associations i can’t really write it (or shuichi ships as a whole) that much anymore and it’s really frustrating so uh, yeah. amamota supremacy.

that being said, god the potential of these two. they’re a great balance. shuichi is anxious and rantaro is laid back, shuichi is reserved and rantaro is outgoing (to an extent; he definitely doesn’t have any issues voicing his opinions). i think rantaro would be really gentle with shuichi! he matches the quiet, less overwhelming vibes, and just. feels inclined to take care of him, y’know? and spend time with him. i think they’re sweet! i think they’re really cute. the other part of the amasai dynamic that i used to be obsessed with his shuichi’s natural curiosity. shuichi would be so curious about what’s going on with rantaro and why he’s traveling, and rantaro would want so badly to tell him, but he can’t risk it happening again, he can’t... oh!!! rantaro is is really good at comforting people i think so he’d be able to like, support shuichi when he’s upset, and shuichi has great communication skills! or at least i like to give them to him. so shuichi would nudge rantaro into being honest, and talking about his feelings. i just want to see them do well together, that’s all! i think that shuichi is earnest and emotional and he cares very dearly for his friends, and he would try really hard to take care of rantaro. he would also probably worry a lot about rantaro after figuring out he gets injured a lot in trips, which, like, FLKDJSFLKJ rantaro might not be so big on but honestly? the guy needs someone to worry about him.

also they FUCKING TRAVEL TOGETHER!!!! shuichi is a detective!!!!!! he can help rantaro search! cue post-salmon mode amasai slowburn as they travel the world together finding rantaro’s lost sisters. i really need to finish writing search, it’s been four months.

rantaro + kaede (9/10) hhh. oh man. oh geez. amamatsu, huh. amamatsu. i just. think about kaede having a little crush on rantaro after he painted her nails, because he’s so reassuring and patient and observant, and she knows he’s sketchy but she believes in him anyway because he has to be trustworthy, he has to, and then she sees him dead and is at first betrayed, horrified that he was the mastermind, only to realise he wasn’t, and she just killed an innocent person for no reason...

now that that’s out of the way, GOD I LOVE THEM! there are things about this relationship that prevent it from working out in the long term (at least in my opinion) but i don’t even care they have such a lovely dynamic and they look so good together... hhhhh i’m also so into them, just, platonically? god. okay. they just! like they already have that canonical dynamic of like, kaede bringing concerns to rantaro and him reassuring her or providing insight, and it’s so tender! the way he talks to her about miu or kiyo or kiibo (depending on who you choose) is so like, i dunno! he doesn’t judge her for having bad first impressions but at the same time he calmly looks a little more into why they behave the way they do? it’s just sweet! it’s just sweet, and i think rantaro can really help kaede like that, and help her to let her barriers down a little and feel not so pressured to be like, perfect all the time, y’know? to be a leader and take care of everyone 24/7. kaede really needs that.

and kaede! believes in him! she believes in him and looks to him for guidance and that’s so important for rantaro too, just, feeling trusted and knowing someone has faith in him... i really genuinely think kaede would encourage rantaro to keep on looking for his sisters, and urge him to trust other people and believe in himself, and it’s that same thing where she wants him to trust and open up to her and he wants to as well but it’s so difficult.... hhh!!! i think they’re so good!!!!! i just think they’re so good. they would take care of one another.

(the reason why i don’t think they’d be sustainable in the long term is because kaede like, she worries. and not in the way shuichi does? i just feel like she needs more stability and vulnerability than rantaro can actually bring to the table. i think kaede would try so, so, so hard to get rantaro to open up, and try so hard to take care of him and make sure he takes care of himself, and rantaro wouldn’t be putting in the same effort, because he can’t, and i don’t think kaede would blame him for it, but i do think that eventually she’d see it’s not. healthy. and it’s making her upset all the time. and she can’t keep up like this. they hurt me but i love them so much and i live in a world where they’re forever teens and never have to break up.)

rantaro + maki (9/10) what? what? two people who never interacted and who have almost less interactions than gonta and ryoma do with rantaro? why, tox? why?

... because i’m a simp. that’s the only reason! that’s the only reason. i think they look good together, i’m really weak for maki and rantaro, and that’s the only reason. that’s the only reason! i have a crush on them both and i want to see them interact. there it is. boom. get your “make fun of tox” juice. before i ramble about how much potential they have, i just want you to know how utterly biased i am towards them.

there! that’s out of the way! biases admitted. i think rantaro and maki have the potential to really balance each other out. rantaro is really mellow and maki has a bit of a temper, rantaro is airheaded and maki is focused, rantaro is sociable and maki is closed off. at the same time, though, they like, handshake on a lot of things, y’know? they’re both secretive and distrustful, they both don’t want to let other people get close out of a fear of losing them, they’re both so FUCKING sad please i just want to hold them. i think there’s a lot of potential for them to be like, coming back to hope’s peak late or something, rantaro coming home from a trip and maki coming home from an assassination, and to run into each other and both be curious but also neither of them asks anything because they’ve both got so much to hide...

but!! then it happens more often and they start seeing each other a lot more, and slowly they start to get like, a sort of companionship? like they’re not close or anything, but they’re united by their like, distrust of other people. and maybe maki tends to a wound of rantaro’s, or like with tenko tells people to lay off of grilling him, or maybe RANTARO tends to a wound of MAKI’S, or sticks up for her in a conversation. and fuck!! maybe a mission goes wrong and maki is upset and she trusts nobody at this goddamn school (because kaito hasn’t taken her on as his sidekick yet) so she goes to rantaro for, fucking, something, for comfort, and it’s embarrassing and vulnerable and absolutely terrible but he’s so gentle and sweet maki can’t help but let her guard down for just a second. also love the aesthetic of like, rantaro coming home from a trip disheartened and running into maki and she calls him an idiot or something and he just starts crying while maki stands there, not sure what to do, before stepping forward and awkwardly patting his arm FKLDJSFKJd i just think they’re neat. strictly speaking he’s not maki’s type (read: optimistic and stupid) but i love them for each other.

love them as friends! love rantaro to be maki’s go-to friend when she needs her empowering haircut, and them tending to each other’s wounds is not an inherently romantic thing, and they just stick up for each other and vibe... hhhhh.

if none of this happens then idk rantaro is a bit intimidated by maki, and maki thinks he’s unreliable and untrustworthy. that’s probably more likely FLKDJSFKJ BUT I CAN DREAM OKAY? CRIES

rantaro + himiko (9/10) these two are brother and sister, full stop. there’s nothing morally wrong with shipping them, it’s more just that like. i don’t know! himiko is so childish, like, the epitome of a younger sister, and rantaro is the epitome of an older brother... they vibe so hard platonically and then romantically my brain just restarts itself. but anyway!

magic is himiko’s special interest!!!! it means a lot to her and she’s very adamant that it be called magic and not tricks, like, even to the point of slowing down a trial and making herself look guilty in chapter two. i think rantaro is very used to playing along with his sisters’ stuff, and i think he would absolutely humour himiko. and like, they both know it’s not really magic, but it’s the effort that himiko appreciates, and in like, a no-pressure way like rantaro does it? yes please.

i think he would give her piggyback rides. like in chapter five when they’re climbing the stairs to kaito’s lab and himiko goes “someone give me a piggyback ride!” you already know rantaro would be volunteering. (side note: read whattheskyknows’ fic “missing (isn’t always so bad)” because it has that scene and i’m emotional.) i think he’d really take care of her! idk i know i’ve said that about a lot of these but rantaro is very caring. he’d look after himiko and make sure she’s taking her depression meds and carry her to her room when she falls asleep and tell people off when they overwhelm her and hhhh... and himiko would support him too! like with his travels and stuff, she wouldn’t really care about knowing why he’s traveling because it’s not her business and also like, asking about that stuff is a pain, who cares, if he’s gonna travel he’s gonna travel. rantaro would buy her books about magic while traveling and read them to her if she wants, and she would perform magic tricks for him and remind him of what it’s like to have a younger sister again. they matter to me. they should matter to you, too.

rantaro + kirumi (9/10) now i KNOW you weren’t expecting me to put amatoujou any lower, do you know who my favourite person in this fandom is? you are legally obligated to go check out Storyflight’s ao3 and read all of their amatoujou fics because they’re phenomenal and story is too. story ilu. amatoujou week is coming up on october third. participate or die.

anyway! i just think like, in general, rantaro has a lot of respect and appreciation for kirumi. she takes care of everyone! she works so hard all the time and she can really do anything and she’s so composed and calm all the time, and she has this sweet smile and this little laugh and this relaxing, patient energy, and hhhhhhh. rantaro respects her so damn much! so damn much. and maybe he simps a little regardless of whether they’re romantically involved because she works so hard. they get along! pseudo-parents of the group as people always make them. rantaro wants kirumi to kick back every so often, y’know? she matters to him and he’d like to see her being true to herself and enjoying herself. i also think he’s pretty stern with people when it comes to her, and just like, respecting her boundaries, the kinda guy to calmly and casually go, “hey, ouma-kun, she told you not to call her your mother, maybe you’d better respect that?” and kokichi goes “simp” but nevermind nevermind, i’m covering oumami on the next bullet.

idk! i think they’d look after each other! i think rantaro would make sure that kirumi is actually Taking Care Of Herself and of course kirumi would notice him coming in injured all the time and she would absolutely tend to his injuries without asking any questions at all. she would make sure he’s eating and if he requested, she would even tell everyone to Back The Fuck Off on his secrets and leave him alone FKJDSKFj i think she would always emphasise to him that she’ll do whatever she can for him if he so much as asks, as is her duty as a maid or whatever, but rantaro will refuse because like!!! hell’s no, he’s not about to feed into her complex my dude!!!!! but anyway.

i think it would... i just think it would be neat if he told her about his sisters! that’s all. kirumi is a fucking powerhouse, even if rantaro didn’t request it, she would totally help him find all twelve of them and bring them home. honestly? prime slowburn material, just, rantaro requesting that she help find his sisters and they slowly fall in love along the way... hhhhh if i wasn’t a fucking coward i’d write it myself, what a fantastic multi-chapter concept. i am so smart.

rantaro + kokichi (10/10) romantic oumami i go back and forth on but these two are really high at this specific moment in time because i love them SO much platonically, my god.

kokichi is a fucking brat! he’s such a brat, just, an absolute menace, a troublemaker and buffoon. i care him a lot but he’s so tiring to deal with, and if you don’t have the patience it’s hard to like, try and understand him? like with the shorter fuse members of the class (read: kaito and maki) it would be really hard to actually, get to the point where you can see past his bullshit KFJSDLFKJ but rantaro is patient! he’s a patient boy, and he’s hard to menace, and he grew up with twelve younger sisters. twelve!!! he takes care of them, bro, he can handle a little shit gremlin in his life. i think he’d be endeared to kokichi because of this reason, like, the immaturity, it just reminds him of his sisters, and if kokichi pulled out the “onii-chan”... hoo, it’s over. rantaro will do whatever this guy wants. just, a total enabler. absolute goon and enabler. i love them so much.

on a more serious note, they both have a lot of baggage, and similar to harumami it’s like, they’re both really distrustful! they’re distrustful, they just deflect in different ways. i think they’re both observant and intelligent enough that they could bounce off of each other really well. i do think kokichi is a bit smarter than rantaro is, if only just because it’s really hard to be smarter than kokichi, but i still think rantaro could keep up with them. and i think they could be a safe haven for each other! like rantaro gives him a place to truly feel safe, y’know, which is SO rare for kokichi the way he believes everyone is out to get him, and kokichi could give rantaro a place to just, stop smiling. unwind and be himself a little bit. be a little mean! bitch a little! be openly distrustful!

rantaro + kaito (20/10) you think you know a simp’s rating system and then she pulls one of these. i’m honestly a little worried about how long this will be because i’ve literally been writing this for three hours but KFJDSKJFDK i’m going to try my very, very best! so here goes :3c

kaito and rantaro have... so much in common. look at these two emotionally constipated, constantly smiling, constantly putting on a brave face, never letting their guard down, never relying on anyone but themselves, always taking care of other people, always taking the burden onto themselves... yeah. it’s like looking in a mirror. and in some cases that’s a really terrible foundation for a relationship. but with these two, when their unhealthy similarities are so reliant upon the other person being willing to just let themself be helped... it works out.

because they’re sweet! they’re sweet people, and rantaro will probably notice the way that kaito takes so much crap from people, including his sidekicks, while working so hard to take care of everyone, and kaito will of Course notice how rantaro is gone all the time, and how he kind of takes himself out of group interactions and makes himself an outcast, and how subtly closed off he is... there’s interest! and they’re both so inclined to help each other i feel like they’d get close! kaito would probably have a bit of a squish on rantaro anyway because he’s the fucking ultimate adventurer and what the hell, that’s so fucking cool, kaito’s destiny obviously lies in the stars but knowing someone who’s going to conquer the earth... that’s awesome. he probably sees rantaro as an equal even before they start getting close. (aka he thinks rantaro is totally above him in every way, like, the ideal almost, but “an equal” is something the luminary of the stars would say, so there he is.) and rantaro thinks kaito is a little silly, but he’s sweet! it’s sweet how much he takes care of other people and just, like, looks after them. rantaro’s weak for a good dork.

and maybe kaito asks rantaro to train with him sometime, or challenges him to a fight, and of course rantaro goes for it because he’s a Man or whatever (and if they do fight it’s homoerotic as hell FKLDSJFK) and plus he’s been meaning to get to know kaito anyway, and then they make a habit of it and start like!! spending time together. and kaito drags rantaro into the larger group and makes him interact and rantaro quietly tells people to lay off kaito, or else makes sure that he’s actually taking care of himself, and then they’re both trying so hard to just, help each other, and they keep like deflecting it back onto the other person, and it’s frustrating! and rantaro is sitting there like “man i really wish momota-kun would open up to me!!” before realising fucking... wait. i do the same thing. like how can he expect kaito to open up to him if he wont do the same thing, y’know? and then he ponders that, and is like, well maybe the relationship just isn’t worth it like vulnerability is for gay losers, but rantaro is, inevitably, a gay loser, so...

there’s just something about seeing your own flaws magnified on another person who you really, really want to take care of, that makes you realise how uncomfortable that is. obviously kaito doesn’t realise he’s upsetting people by pushing them away, not until rantaro closes the door in his face during a breakdown, and then he seriously needs to reevaluate the way he takes care of other people.

idk! i think they’re fantastic. i think kaito’s fervent belief in people would lend itself well to rantaro’s task, like, who doesn’t want to be believed in, y’know? and kaito is so strong about it, even when rantaro doubts himself he’s so encouraging and it’s nice. and rantaro gives kaito space to stop being the hero for a second and just! be kaito! and kaito can tend to his wounds and rantaro can take care of him when he’s sick and hhhHhHhHhhhhHh i care about them SO fucking much.

I'm curious if you have any headcanon/any fic plans or just ideas about how Hunith learnt Will knew about Merlin's magic. Sorry if you already talked about it and has slipped out of my attention!

Oh my gosh, any message that asks me about Will or Hunith or Ealdor in any fashion makes me so happy; thank you!

I'll avoid drawing up an outline for an exact scenario, only because I am always writing more fic about Merlin’s pre-Camelot life and if I end up deciding to actually do this in a fic I’ll be mad at myself for already typing it all out in meta XD I will, however, talk about some general thoughts, because I do have solid opinions about certain aspects of this whole thing (all my own, obviously; folks are free to imagine this in different ways - these are just my own personal inferences from the canon we’re given).

Putting this under a cut because it got long - you always write me such detailed notes that I wanted to be thorough! <3

So! Here are some of my thoughts about how Hunith learnt that Will knew about Merlin’s magic.

i. it was not careless.

In my opinion, Will and Merlin, by the age where we meet them in canon, are not out there goofing around with Merlin’s magic in risky ways. It doesn’t make sense for Merlin, who is old enough to understand the dangers to his own life and who is also desperately committed to making sure his mother never finds out that Will is in the know (because Merlin knows it won’t go well), and it definitely doesn’t make sense for Will, who, despite his fanon reputation for mischief, is...not actually shown to be like that in canon.

I talked before in my big meta dump about Will that I very much do not read the “he’s always been a troublemaker” line to be indicative of the “pranks and shenanigans” theme that I tend to see in a lot of fic. The “troublemaker” line, in context, is not referring to Will causing mischief; it’s about Will’s inability to shut his mouth and stop stirring the pot, in the sense of him yelling about stuff that nobody else wants to think about; it’s about him not being able to put his head down and go with the flow. It’s immediately followed by the line “they’re used to ignoring him,” and what we’re being told here is that Will is the cousin who can’t stop himself from getting political at the holiday dinner table even when the rest of the family is begging him to let them have one single meal in peace. He cannot let things go, and the rest of his neighbors are completely sick of it (see: Hunith’s ZERO patience with Will when he challenges Arthur in front of the community).

Canon Will, in contrast to some fanon interpretations, is actually a very intense, guarded person? He’s suspicious and pragmatic and risk-averse. And I just think it’s important to remember that Will, in his current situation, does not have a lot of time to be messing around. He was orphaned and left to run a whole homestead as a child. That’s like...he’s doing the work of an entire family. Life in Ealdor already leaves little room to slack off, and Will is completely overburdened - somebody in his situation would be desperately busy, almost all of the time, and always on the verge of a potential disaster, if he fell behind on anything.

So I just don’t read him as someone who is out doing silly things with Merlin in a way that got them discovered by Hunith. Like - Merlin isn’t careless enough to be goofing off in his own house, for example, and Will isn’t a character who’s daring Merlin to do foolish things for the fun of it. Merlin is comfortable using his magic around Will, definitely, and we know he’s had at least one mishap in the past (the tree), but at this point in their lives, I don’t see either of them as frivolous or clueless enough to use magic in a way that could get them caught by anyone, or for the purpose of risky/trivial games.

ii. merlin was the one who let it slip

I personally think the lead-up to Hunith discovering Will’s involvement was preceded by two things:

an increase in external stressors (related to the political situation between Camelot and Cenred’s kingdom), making Merlin’s position in Ealdor progressively more precarious/dangerous

Merlin becoming increasingly frustrated, rebellious, and unwilling to hide himself the way his mother wanted him to

The first point is something that I've incorporated into fic, so I think @blueclaw7 is already familiar with it :) But essentially, when I was collecting info on Ealdor and Cenred's kingdom prior to a previous fic-writing endeavour, there were a few things that led me to wonder just what sort of trouble was brewing in that corner of the world, prior to Merlin's departure:

We know that Cenred makes agreements with slave traders, allowing them to work certain areas of his land without interference (see: Cenred's discussion with Morgause about Jarl in 3.12 - “He's been working our western border for months...We have an understanding.”) Cenred likely would not allow this unless it benefited him in some way, so I think we can safely assume that he is receiving some sort of kickback from allowing slavers to operate in his kingdom, either in the form of financial compensation or perhaps by having people like Jarl on-call in case Cenred himself needs specific targets rounded up.

We also know that sometime prior to 1.10, Cenred's kingdom and Camelot signed some sort of peace treaty, which according to Uther was “years in the making.” We're not told how long the two kingdoms had been enemies before that, but my personal interpretation is that they have been at odds for a long time, because the peace treaty doesn’t appear to be very successful - by 2.12, Uther says, “Our treaty with Cenred no longer holds. We are at war,” despite the fact that we actually haven't even met Cenred in the show yet and he hasn't attacked Camelot or anything (he doesn't agree to do that until Season 3, when Uther is incapacitated and the kingdom is weak). Uther also later refers to Cenred as Camelot’s “sworn enemy.” So the treaty just appears to have been a temporary, shaky peace between kingdoms that are frequently in conflict, the terms of which we are not privy to.

We know that Uther “offers a handsome reward for anyone with magic” (2.09, when the bounty hunter shows up with Freya), and we know that normal people will turn others over to bounty hunters for their own benefit (“How did he find you?” / “You can't always trust people.”)

We know that Aredian (the witchfinder) has been operating “in foreign lands” (aka, not Camelot).

So, the question I asked myself was this: why would Cenred and Uther even agree to a peace treaty in the first place, when their kingdoms are clearly constantly at odds with one another? And looking at the other tidbits of information above, the framework I constructed for myself was that I personally think part of the aforementioned treaty involves Cenred turning people with magic over to Uther - and perhaps allowing Uther's agents over the border to do their own hunting - in exchange for some kind of compensation (probably financial). We know Cenred is greedy (he's aiming to conquer Camelot even though he is, per his own words, “rich and powerful already”), and we know he canonically has the means to give Uther what he wants (agreements with slave traders working within his borders). And given that the treaty appears to have been a fairly recent development in 1.10, my personal read is that this treaty was signed sometime before Merlin left Ealdor, and that it prompted an uptick in dangerous activity that frightened Merlin's mother and made her more willing to send him away. Bounty hunters nabbing people on the road, slave traders being given the freedom to operate without interference, rumors of single agents like the Witchfinder roaming the countryside - all of this would lead to the far more immediate concern of “what happens if somebody in Ealdor thinks Merlin might be magic and decides to make a quick shilling by turning him in????”

I think that is Hunith's biggest concern. Ealdor is poor. And Merlin himself says his departure was prompted by not being able to trust the people around him. When Freya tells him, “you can't always trust people,” he replies, “I know. That's why I left home.” And if there were suddenly a higher demand for people with magic, due to Cenred and Uther's arrangement, then there would be more incentive for regular people to look for a way they could turn it to their advantage, especially if they've already been conditioned to see magic as an evil/dangerous thing.

I think this leads to Hunith being even more cautious, and putting even tighter restrictions on Merlin re: where he can go and when he can be out and who he can go wandering around with, and even on using magic for little things at home where no one can see. And the problem with this is that Merlin won't tolerate it anymore, not the way he did when he was younger. Not because he doesn't want to listen to her or because he doesn't understand that she's trying to help him, but because he just can't. He can't. It's killing him. He tells Gaius in 1.01, “if I can't use magic, I might as well die,” and that’s not just him being dramatic; he really feels that way. He doesn’t just have magic, he is magic. He can't suppress it that way, without feeling like he's killing himself.

So, to bring us back around to the point of this segment - I think what ends up happening is that Merlin starts pushing back on Hunith’s restrictions, not so he can goof around and do stupid things, but so he can live his life in a way that doesn't make him feel like he's suffocating, so he can just be, without feeling like his entire existence is a crime. I think the increased pressure drives him more and more frequently to Will, the only person around whom Merlin can exist as a complete person, and I think he becomes increasingly resistant to his mother's directives, and I think his mother gets more and more frustrated with him, because she sees it as him needlessly risking his life, but Merlin is tired of hearing that he can't trust anybody, because he CAN trust somebody; he has somebody to trust right now and he’s had them for ages, and he doesn't think things have to be so dire all the time, if his mother would just see that, but she won't -

And then, when his frustration reaches a boiling point, Merlin accidentally spills the beans.

I don't think Hunith walks in on Merlin doing magic in front of Will, personally. I think Merlin slips up and tells her, in the course of their increasingly frequent, tense conflicts between “you can't trust ANYBODY/things are too dangerous” and “i CAN trust somebody/i can’t live like this anymore.”

I think he lets it slip in an argument, as a frustrated justification for “it doesn't have to be like this all the time; things could be better; will's known about it for X years and nothing bad has ever happened to me.”

And then, of course, it goes very, very badly.

Which brings us to Point #3 -

iii. it was a Disaster.

What I mean by this is that Hunith discovering that Will knew about Merlin’s magic was not a chill situation. It did not go over well, and it created an interpersonal crisis between the three of them that persists all the way into 1.10.

We’ve already heard canon confirmation of this - “when she found out you knew, she was SO angry” - and it’s obvious that this conflict was never resolved. I’ve already talked in another post about Hunith’s weird disinterest in/disapproval of Will in favor of Arthur (even after Will’s death!), and Will clearly isn’t feeling very generous with her in 1.10, either - they only interact once, when Hunith snaps at Will to “keep quiet” after he challenges Arthur in front of the village, and after that, they never talk again. They never go anywhere near each other, in fact.

I know fandom likes to headcanon Hunith as the ultimate mom who is super generous with everyone and would instantly adopt all of Merlin’s friends out of an overabundance of motherly love, but 1.10 tells a very different story about her relationship with Will, and it’s clearly not a completely new issue. Merlin knew his mother wouldn’t react well to finding out that he’d shared his secret with Will. It’s why he lied in the first place. Whatever the relationship between the three of them was before the reveal, Merlin knew that a history of positive interactions wouldn’t make a difference if the truth came out. His mother would never be okay with Will knowing.

And he was right! Because Hunith finding out the truth fractures that relationship. It’s what finally prompts Hunith to send Merlin away. And that, of course, makes things worse, because a) Will never did anything to deserve that reaction, and b) as I’ve talked about in another post, Merlin disappears without even telling Will he’s leaving. He just vanishes. And Will, blindsided, is left in Ealdor with Hunith, who was party to that decision, and he is so...I don’t even know how to describe how full of grief and rage I would be, if I were in his situation. Merlin was the only good thing in Will’s life.

I don’t think Will wants to be anywhere near Hunith, after that. I think he avoids her like the plague. I think the only reason Will even knows anything about where Merlin is or what he’s doing is because Hunith is careful to chat about it with other people in casual conversation, while Will is within earshot (hence why Will later says, “I hear you’re skivvying for some prince”). And I think Hunith is probably making a misguided attempt to be kind, by doing that - giving Will a way to stay sort of updated even though they’re not speaking to each other - but I also don’t think her efforts are effective, at all, because the only thing her secondhand updates do for Will is hammer home the fact that Merlin is writing to Hunith instead of him, that Merlin hasn’t directed Hunith to relay Will any message, that Merlin really did just leave without saying goodbye and apparently has no intention of contacting Will again. And Will doesn’t know why Merlin did that, or what he did to make Merlin not want him anymore, but because Will is who he is, he ends up feeling like Merlin must have never cared about him that much in the first place, and it was just that Will misread the whole relationship; he got his hopes up and let his guard down and believed that somebody cared for him, and he should have known better, because everybody ALWAYS leaves him, and he was stupid to think this time would be different. And he is so angry at himself, but he is also devastated, and impossibly lonely, because he has nobody in his life, and he has to just sit and simmer in his own pain, because Merlin is gone, and Will would rather crawl over a bed of hot coals than go anywhere near Hunith right now.

And I honestly don’t blame Will for avoiding her. It’s like...I hate to put this on Hunith, because I do appreciate her in other areas, but there’s just no getting around this: the way she views and deals with Will is markedly different from the way she treats Merlin’s Camelot friends, even though she barely knows them, and despite the fact that she’s perfectly aware that Arthur hates sorcery. She’s happy to ignore Merlin’s friendship with Will all throughout 1.10, even though that’s the relationship that is in the most desperate need of attention, and instead she chooses to focus on/encourage/praise Merlin’s relationships with people who hate the thing that makes him who he is. And that is just so...bizarre to me, and I think...I really believe there is a part of Hunith that blames Will for everything that happened, even if it’s subconscious. Like - I think there’s a part of her that believes that if Will hadn’t found out about the magic, Merlin wouldn’t have been “in danger,” and she wouldn’t have been put in the difficult position of sending Merlin away. I’m not sure if she truly believed Will was going to sell Merlin to a bounty hunter when he got desperate enough for money (see above re: Will’s situation being a precarious one, survival-wise), or if it was more her fear that Merlin would be too trusting now that one person had accepted him (what if Merlin went and told someone else, because it worked out the first time??? What if he let this thing with Will lull him into a false sense of security?) But whatever her reasons, she still ends up pushing Will away. She never treats him with the same kind of solicitous interest that she extends to Merlin’s new companions, and I do think it all comes back to that moment when she found out that he knew.

It’s hardly rational, given what we know about how dedicated Will actually is to protecting Merlin’s secret. And I don’t think Hunith is like...actively taking it out on him. But the attitude is still present, as an undercurrent, and I have to be honest about this: the feeling I get from Hunith in 1.10 (and the vibe that I imagine Will was getting from her while Merlin was gone) is that she thinks Merlin is much better off now that he’s moved on from Ealdor, and that leaving Will behind was ultimately best for everyone, and that Will needs to just get over it and understand that he’s not a part of Merlin’s life anymore, so everyone can be happy that Merlin has met such fantastic, fascinating new friends.

That’s what I hear her saying, when I see the way she completely ignores him while simultaneously loving on the Camelot crew. That’s what Will hears, too, even if she doesn’t say it out loud.

And honestly, my heart breaks for him. He deserved more than that.

(tangentially, but - I think it bears mentioning, given certain fic trends I have seen, that Merlin himself does not share this viewpoint. Merlin has never and will never consider his new friends to be a “step up” from Will, and he has never and will never consider Will to be a “past” or less immediate part of his life. Even after Will is dead, Merlin refuses to tolerate even the barest suggestion of this from anybody - when Arthur tries to say that Will “was a close friend,” Merlin corrects him, saying “He still is.” Will is just as relevant and meaningful to Merlin in Camelot as he was when Merlin was still at home, and the fact that Hunith doesn’t assign Will as much importance anymore does not in any way correspond to Merlin’s own feelings on the subject.)

So - the point of all this is just to say that Hunith finding out about Will isn’t an event that ends with all of them coming together and collectively deciding to send Merlin to Camelot while Will and Hunith promise to look after each other while Merlin is away. Whatever relationship the three of them had before this happened, it’s broken after Hunith learns the truth. Hunith and Will are completely done with each other, after Merlin leaves. Merlin and Will are obviously plunged into an incredibly messy situation, thanks to Merlin vanishing without a word. And even Merlin and his mother have tension - Merlin references the big blow-up to Will in 1.10, but there’s also a moment in episode 1.01, too, that is VERY subtle but also very telling, when Gaius says “your mother asked me to look after you.” Merlin’s response is just, “Yes,” but the way he delivers it - he looks away, and his mouth tenses up, and there’s this little hesitation and then the tone is almost - rueful, like there’s more he’d like to say but he refrains. It’s like a “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all” vibe. And the reason for that is because the circumstances under which his mother asked Gaius to look after him were a mess. Merlin tells us straight-up in 1.10 that he didn’t want to leave home. The entire thing was a disaster.

iv. the reason hunith was “so angry” is because will did not find out about merlin's magic by accident

I think I've talked about this briefly before, but here it is in more detail: I am firmly convinced that Merlin told Will about his magic, as opposed to Will finding out accidentally.

It's not something we can actually know in a canon sense, obviously. And I know the “Will almost has an accident and Merlin uses magic to help him” motif is more common in fic. But the reason I’m so set on this is because of how Merlin describes Hunith's reaction to finding out that Will knew.

“When she found out you knew - she was so angry.” The way Merlin says that - he shakes his head, almost in awe, like it was something almost frightening to behold - the way he puts an emphasis on “so angry” - to me, this has always been an indication that Merlin voluntarily disclosed his magic to Will. We know enough about Hunith to be familiar with how gentle and calm she is, and how much she loves Merlin, and how kind and understanding she is with him. I think if she learned that Will had found out about Merlin's magic in an accidental way - ie, in a way Merlin could not have reasonably prevented - then even though she would still have wished that Merlin had told her sooner, she wouldn't have reacted in a way that made Merlin reflect on it like she was scary-angry. I think she would have understood, if he explained that he'd been forced into a situation to use his magic to help someone or prevent a bad accident from happening.

However - if Merlin had TOLD Will about his magic, voluntarily, when he didn't have to, just because he felt like it, despite all of Hunith's warnings and all of her efforts to keep Merlin safe - that, I think, is something that would have prompted the kind of anger Merlin references.

To Hunith, that would be unconscionably reckless. After all she's done to keep Merlin alive, after spending every day of her life sick and sleepless with worry - to have Merlin so easily throw her work away like that, in blatant defiance of every cautionary thing she's ever told him - it's a slap in the face. Plus, Merlin is now in more danger (she thinks) which just amplifies her fear, and thus her fury.

But what she doesn’t understand is that Merlin didn't do it to hurt her. He didn't do it because he doesn't appreciate how hard she works to keep him safe. He did it because he had to. There came a moment, at some point in the past, where he became so lonely and so desperate to be seen that he made a choice, took a risk, and put his life in someone else's hands.

And he was rewarded for that choice! Merlin never, ever would have made it in Ealdor without Will’s honest companionship. A Merlin who did not have a single friend to know and love him for those first two decades would have been utterly unrecognizable by the time he arrived in Camelot - if he even survived long enough to get there.

But Hunith doesn't understand the depth of Merlin's desperation. She thinks that him telling Will was a foolish, uncalled-for risk, when for Merlin it was a lifesaving necessity.

So, I think that this is part of what makes Hunith react so badly. And I also think the severity of her reaction (and the ultimate tragic outcome that follows in 1.10) is something that lingers in Merlin’s mind for a long time, because he never willingly discloses his secret to anyone again. Gaius and Lancelot find out by accident. Freya, Gilli, and Daegal find out by necessity, because Merlin needs to leverage his magic in one way or another in order to save their lives. Even Arthur is a forced confession, demanded by desperate circumstances.

Merlin doesn't choose to reveal himself to those people. It's something that's pushed onto him. Will is a singular instance. Merlin has only voluntarily shared his secret with one person - just because he wanted to, not because he was forced to, just because he trusted them, just because he wanted that connection so badly.

And it leads to such painful consequences, in the end, that he never does it again.

in conclusion:

So, to summarize, my foundational thoughts on how this went down can basically be boiled down to those four things: it wasn't the result of carelessness, Merlin was the one who let it slip, it was a huge disaster with long-lasting consequences, and part of the reason why it went so badly is because Hunith found out that Merlin had voluntarily told Will about his magic, as opposed to Will finding out accidentally.

But, as always, those are just my own personal thoughts about it, and I am still 100% happy to read about all sorts of differing envisionings of this scenario - nothing is confirmed in canon, obviously, so for people who imagine this event differently, have at it! The world can always use a little more of Merlin’s pre-canon life, if you ask me. :D
