Ayo!!! It's been a while since I've drawn utau (utmv?) stuff in a fully rendered style, so.... when I saw @itsxroxannex had a dtiys I had to shoot my shot!
Actually, I don't think I've ever done a dtyis before 👀 so this was really fun.
(Speedpaint and More Process Rambles beneath the cut ♡)
I... actually don't think I've ever drawn Passive!NM either tbh. This entire drawing was kinda like a personal challenge to myself, since I often lack w/ backgrounds too.
I did kinda a study on the originals background, because I tend to just draw characters w/o a solid background, and when I do add a background characters usually blend into it a lil too well to discern figures, so the color choices and soft loose lines compared to the hard lines + cell shading felt really nice.
I also decided to go back to Procreate for this one too! Normally I draw w/ Medibang these days, but I learned to draw utau stuff on Procreate and so drawing them elsewhere feels wrong.
And, of course, the last note I'll add in the actual post: my sketch process is trash lmao. Literally I just wing the shapes of clothes and junk based on the vibes and resize as needed. I love looking at the og sketch tho cuz it's so... bald. No under-form, no indicator of limbs, nothing.

Dogstock are typical of what are often deemed the ‘evil’ races in many other fantasy works. They were created by some higher force to be slaves, they are carnivorous by nature, they resemble animals other than human in dentition and build. They growl and bite and walk behind.
The Uhasr (a dogstock culture) are descendants of such slave-infantry that was abandoned when the empire that used them to capture the steppes decided the land wasn’t so profitable after all, and more pressing matters drew their attention elsewhere. Like tools left spent on the ground, the unneeded, excess dogstock were left to survive on their own in Hochkiskuph. The native peoples, of course, did not welcome them any more, or see them any less as oppressors when the hand released the lead. To the Hochkiskuph peoples, the Uhasr are a predatory ghost, an echo that consumes them even in absentia. To the Uhasr, one human is much like another, differing in number and equipment, but never in essence. Uhasr are a species of wild animal with a human face. Humans are prey on two legs. Humans smoke and poison uncovered dens on principle, Uhasr abduct and consume men and women and children all the same.
A common trend I have noticed in media which aims to humanize monsters, is that it often relies on passivity. Humanity is contingent upon kindness. The monster that is A Person only so long as they are a harmless thing at heart, something which can be understood and befriended. Their violence is reluctant, their hearts noble. Grace is a concession to the dominated. Only the toothless beast, declawed and pinioned and caged, is one which has earned its personhood. The ontological enemy supersedes the ontological man.

People who think that Rowan got into a relationship with Malakai just to fuck with amerie may have misunderstood what the phrase "forget Amerie" means.

I'm sure someone has already thought plenty about this, but I can't be mad at the changes that House of the Dragon made from the Fire and Blood source material when the changes made helped to expand pretty heavily on the thesis of that story: patriarchal rule kind of SUCKS. I know the Dance as GRRM wrote it was heavily based on the real-life event of The Anarchy in England, but I think the changes that the showrunners deliberately made in House of the Dragon, foremost of all ageing down Alicent and having her be a direct comparison to Rhaenyra in how both operate and wield power in a world dominated by men, and the way that the two of them think about the power they have (Rhaenyra seeing it as her god-given right by birth, Alicent seeing it as a tool for the men in her life), is far more interesting narratively than the source material.

Star Trek - The Wrath of Khan
During the review meeting for the Kobiashi Maru, Kirk needles Saavik hard with another impossible situation, with interesting results
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I must note: spock wonders afterwards if Kirk intentionally gave this scenario due to saavik's past, but it also echos Kirk's struggle with the Tarsus IV massacre
Both of these can be described as "lifeboat ethics," which is a real thing!

what can Bella Swan actually cook?
armed with LegalTM pdfs, control f, and my theory that Bella doesn't actually like cooking she was just written by a mormon housewife, I have determined every specifically named meal Bella cooks in the Twilight Saga!
In summary:
15 total named meals (7 in Twilight, 3 each in New Moon/Eclipse, and 2 in Breaking Dawn)
13 unique meals (lasagna & fried chicken repeat across books)
Presumably she's also cooking literally every other day (when they aren't ordering pizza, which is apparently the only takeout Charlie ever gets), but it's not relevant to her narrative.
my main conclusion is that she eats way too much cereal, but for the purposes of this i've decided that cereal doesn't count as cooking.
Bella Swan canonically knows how to cook:
Twilight:
Steak and potatoes, plus salad (pg 15)
White people enchiladas (p.36)
Fish (marinated), with “salad and bread left over from the night before” (p.68)
Cold-cut sandwiches (p.70)
Grilled cheese (with tomato) (p.111)
Lasagna (p.118)
Fish, using Harry Clearwater’s fish fry (p.169)
New Moon:
Fried chicken (p.70)
Lasagna (p.82)
Casserole (p.197)
Eclipse:
Spaghetti, (rescued from Charlie)
Grandma Swan’s stroganoff recipe (p.29)
Hamburger (p.43)
Breaking Dawn:
Sunny-side up eggs (p.75)
Damn rancid chicken Fried chicken (p.80)

so. i was thinking. in generation loss, why was charlie given the moniker “The Villain”?
because ranboo and sneeg’s titles make sense: Ranboo “The Hero” was showfall’s hero, no problems there, and Sneeg “The Taken” was taken prisoner in the first episode, taken captive when he tried to escape the carousel in the episode two, and was taken for granted had his life taken permanently (maybe) in the finale.
however, Slimecicle “The Villain” feels like it only really applies to the first episode, with him playing the antagonist to the hero in the form of the slime demon. in the second and third episode, he didn’t really play a villain, just mega chet and then himself.
unless, of course, charlie slimecicle was labeled the villain because he was the one that got the hero killed in the end.
be it intentionally or not, at the start of the trail of dominoes that leads to ranboo being crucified, sits charlie. in a mockery of his streaming set up, oblivious to his surroundings, unaware of the horrors around him until our dear hero saved him. an act of kindness that gave the employees the time they needed to lock the doors and seal the exits. had ranboo not stopped for charlie, they would’ve made it out and been free, they would’ve lived.
instead, our hero wanted to save their friend and in turn they were strung up and slaughtered for their good deed.
and what kind of good person would lead their friend to getting killed? who would let such a cruel fate befall his own brother? no, that’s something only a villain would do
