I know you're keeping Clear Sky as an antagonist (and he's very compelling as one in your rewrite), but I'm curious: if you absolutely had to give him a redemption arc, how would you go about it? (Besides not fridging his sister and wives, of course.)

If I was forced to give Clear Sky a redemption arc I'd slip a femur right out of my legmeat and beat someone to death with it

I'd never write a redemption arc for him, ever. It would be a completely different character.

Clear Sky's redemption arc is not even an idea worth considering; This an extremely consistent abusive family member who drives the entire plot, a predator who will leverage the love people have for him, whose defining characteristic is that he dresses up his megalomania as "Just Trying to Protect Everyone"

And I'd give that up?! for what?

I'd rewrite the whole plot, JUST like how the writers did with TWO born evil foreigner villains so their story wouldn't get boring, so I could prove the he could be a good boy if he wanted to? WHY?

It's doing the same thing the Erins do, totally uninterested in the story of his victims to write yet another plot centered around the pain of an abusive man.

It isn't as clear as the other two, but Scout's Wispon would be powered by a white/boost wisp.

He probably keeps it in his pocket lmao

The thing with it charging could probably have two options - either use a charge to get a short boost, or as a last ditch, powerful attack. Him not being able to boost all the time would stop him from just being. Current Sonic with a gun.

I wasn't ready to commit to this…THING as something that would have lore LOL so I don't really know what these guys would do in the Sonic universe yet. Something in my brain says a weird mix of Whisper's old team and Team Dark

Soldier

He's supposed to have a stolen G.U.N helmet (hence why it doesn't fit over his ears properly) so it's entirely possible he nicked a Wispon prototype off them or something. Or maybe Engie made it for him. Like I said, foggy deatils.

Ok so obviously Sonic games don't have HP but I also think losing rings every time you jumped would be a bit annoying. I think Soldier would likely be more open to attacks after jumps, making it important to be careful where and when you landed.

This is neither here nor there but there's a doodle showing how I think under his helmet should look. Kind of a mix between some earlier TF2 comic pannels and how they draw Kit in the IDW comics sometimes. Giving him big googly Sonic eyes just didn't look right lmao.

Pyro

IIRC Pyro's flamethrower is homemade, so I wanted to keep this one looking like that as well. So it's made of random items, held together with tape and doesn't have any fancy glowy parts like Scout or Soldier. Gets the job done tho.

And lright this one is a MESS. I wrote it right when I was playing endwalker and I was really overwhelmed with the story™ that I made  mess of this wip so like for the last few months or so I’ve been working on rewriting everything lol so I’ll give you some of my thoughts abt it and a small snippet since I can’t get anything more substantial that I’m satisfied with lol

wip roundup :)

This fic is like following right after the scions are back from the moon. I was overwhelmed with the fact that the WOL didn’t have much saying with the twins and how Fourchenault reacted to them. I was like, yeah, she’s proud of them. They deserve to know that, but also, I’m not sure she would be brave enough to do so. So well this fic starts with me realizing like “alright, thancred would get it. better than anyone” so the first part follows him seeing how she reacts to everything that’s happening with the WOL and making the connections like how he felt about ryne, etc etc

But of course,,, my excuse for this fic was Thesa’s haircut first and foremost. Basically I hc Azem to have insane long hair, and Thesa always had longer hair, and this is like the first time she cut it out and it’s incredibly short. Basically the second part goes from her having a bit of breakdown seeing the moon burning + overthinking about that image of hythlo she saw on the moon and everything that happened there and going “I need new. The final days can’t happen again, things gotta change NOW.” Until she interrupts my Alisaie like knocking on the door which is like the cannon visiting for her during that quest!!

And ofc Alie changes her mind a bit… but she still gets that feeling so this is SO SPECIFIC but like you know the whole “wrapping the red thing around your thinger so you don’t forget?” She does it with a strand of hair, just a reminder (things he has lost etc etc) and chops everything off. But then, ofc, the beginning alone isn’t enough for me so the last part is Thancred’s reaction to it, since I like to think they spend their nights together whenever they can and they DEFINITELY would want to on this one night. There is a bit of that part before any rewriting lol:

A knock on door cut off any other conclusion that Thesa would have come with. She hadn't heard footsteps down the hallway, and the beat was too light to be anyone else — though she doubted many others besides Alisaie would be awake and willing to visit after a day like this. So she calls his name lightly as she walks to the door, and from the suppressed laugh, she was sure.

“It's me.” Thancred’s voice is softer beyond the closed door. She finally quickened her pace to unlock it when he laughed again. “I hope you didn't have to crawl under the covers to-”

From the look he had on his eyes, Thancred seemed to have specific intentions for the visit. However, as soon as she appeared from behind the door and their eyes finally met, the hyur could have sworn that all the thoughts he had — along with all the rehearsed words he had cooked up - slipped his mind.

Thesa freezes for a second too, unsure how to react. Maybe she would explain later, but for some reason, she waited for his reaction to continue.

Thancred seemed entranced for a second as a smile seemed to bump into his face, and then, he made the greatest effort to move; forcing his hand up until he finally reached the messy strands. His right hand stops to her left side, with his thumb behind his ear so he could feel each of the threads between his fingers — clenching his fist to lightly pull them and feel them falling off before repeating the same thing but resting his palm next to her face.

“By the twelve.” He says in a sigh, slightly embarrassed to clearly see the situation they were in as his left hand reached for the longer loose strand and curled it around his fingers before resting his hand on the side of her face, cupping her cheeks, and finally confessing, exactly, the same conclusion of hers. “Perfect.”

He looked at her with different eyes than First and even more different than Walking Sands. Eyes that stretched far farther than he had previously seen — and yet, without missing all the admiration and affection he had always carried. Maybe slightly more, even.

"For a second I didn't recognize you," he smiled, tugging lightly on the strand with a teasing smile, which soon turned into a relieved sigh when he tilted his head to the side, finally meeting her eyes again. "But there she is."

#it just feels ooc for some of them and I don't like how I did some of the exposition so yeah rewriting it. I just need to get in the right #headspace to finish it lol those more canon ones makes me anxious to finish for NO REASON other than my girl deserves the best. so yeah. #ALSO fun fact I feel like I need to share: this fic is only something bc I was frantically doodling on my sketchbook after finishing that #quest. i have the date here lol 3/3/22 (not that long ago ik) but yeah i end up with thumbnail for this little comic #with a BUNCH of notes around it. its kinda overly angsty bc i was feeling like thag at the time bc HYTHLO's “Don't you agree hades?” OR WTV #the notes summarizes to 'but then it does not matter if you hair feels lighter because you have their images engraved in #your mind and you do not have the strength to cut those off so all you do is ask /what now/ but haven't you learned? images can't talk' #and the progression of the coming is her cutting her head and the panels kinda move like a camera to finalize focusing on her back staring #at a mirror reflection the image of emet (black robs + hole in his chest) and the image of hythlo she has for now (from the moon cutscene) #so yeah...... maybe it all started with my hythazemet brainrot and then the fic was too much on alisaie and thancred so i had trouble #idk findinh middle ground with what I wanted ?? but yeah... OHOHOHOH i like this train of thought with car guy eiffel who always has a tiny screwdriver/one of those with interchangeable heads in his pocket eiffel going to engineering and screwing around with spare parts and fixing things when he needs to think eiffel who always has little metal bits and screws that hes messing with on his desk eiffel who makes little metal trinkets for his loved ones. he sits and rambles to hera about engines and different manufacturers and they design the perfect car together with her knowledge of the world and his brain for design and mechanics. im thinking very much kaylee from firefly who never understood people but somehow machines just talk to her and spring to life in her hands. doug eiffel who wanted to go to college for aerospace engineering and work for nasa but never went to college and picked up a job hauling scrap parts to pay for said college degree before he dropped out and ended up working as head mechanic and whose dreams of building space ships were reignited when cutter found him in prison. or, my saddest thought yet, eiffel already planning on building a car with his daughter for her sixteenth birthday before she was taken from him.

idk also brings new life to his relationship with hera as the ship and how no one else on the hephaestus was really fit to do big repairs, but if he had a background in mechanics he could understand her on ANOTHER level that the other crew members dont get

oh gosh, i really don't think he'd be into anything that complex! like - don't get me wrong, eiffel is smarter than people (including himself) give him credit for, but he's a handyman, not an engineer. he is like the model for undiagnosed adhd class clown; he got through high school because he tests remarkably well without ever studying, and that was just enough to keep him from failing on account of all the homework he didn't do. i fully believe that eiffel never went to college, and never intended to. he's unambitious, and i love that about him.

maxwell's got the genius mechanical aptitude, minkowski's got the hard work and dreams of spaceflight... eiffel's passion is radio. when i say he's a car guy, i don't think it's his thing like radio is his thing - he's just a guy with a head full of american pop culture biases, who likes tinkering with stuff, and who lists "monster trucks" as one of the top ten things he misses about earth. like - i feel bad that so much of this is me disagreeing with you, these are just very different things! eiffel's definitely got tools on hand, he keeps one of his tool bags by his bed, he likes building things out of spare parts - canonically, he's got a lot of technical know-how, but it's in a much more practical, hands-on way. i don't think he'd be telling hera about design, much less his own design concepts, as much as he'd be ranking his dream cars. and i do not think functionality factors in as much as "he thinks it's cool" and/or "they used that make and model in a movie that he liked."

and speaking of hera, honestly, like... eiffel's good with his hands! and he can follow her instructions and do repairs if necessary. but the kind of electronics eiffel works with are nowhere near as complex, and i don't think spaceship maintenance comes naturally to him - and it's certainly not something he wants to do!! and while it makes a pretty big difference whether we're talking general station maintenance vs. specifically hera's hardware here, i think the fact that he doesn't know how to navigate this stuff without her input is part of the reason she feels safe with him. he didn't even think about what "optical system" could mean. eiffel couldn't (intentionally) mess with hera's systems even if he wanted to. hera is so used to people who "understand" her in that way taking advantage of her; i think it's reassuring eiffel has no interest in it. he is a people person; hera's just a regular person to him.

but anyway. i think he was looking forward to teaching anne how to drive, and that would be a depressing note to leave this on, so. eiffel could not be an engineer, and i think even the thought of the work that would require would make him break out in hives, but he could be a mechanic, for whatever length of time it'd take him to get fired. and i think that would be hot. put him in another set of coveralls and get him greased up. that's what's really important.

#he's just an analog guy!! he's got a knack for radio. he could tinker with your stereo to optimize the sound quality. #he can change his own tires / oil / etc. and generally identify problems with his car but that doesn't mean he necessarily does. #he'll spend all day trying to fix a heap of junk as a hobby but routine repairs that'll take him 15 minutes? he'd sooner die #he cuts corners where he probably shouldn't. etc. eiffel hates doing anything as soon as it's work. #... i'm sorry! i really feel bad how much of this is disagreeing with you. i really appreciate the ask! #thank you for talking to me about eiffel #asks #also i've been meaning to write a post. i keep thinking about writing it but i've been so tired. but i want to talk about how #there some key ways eiffel really doesn't understand hera or what it's like for her. and that's actually important to me. like. #eiffel is really bad about assuming his experiences are universal and he loves hera and in loving hera he has to learn to decenter himself.

i’m going to get out of the way upfront that OF COURSE it is incredibly silly that we have three gorgeous women head over heels for this protagonist at the same time. that said.

there was a solid space of time where aviendha/rand was my favorite ship of his, and that definitely had a lot to do with how relatively well-developed their buildup was. i love a good enemies to lovers arc! and they were really together all of the time for 2-3 straight books, a few ic months i think?, so in a series where people tend to abruptly realize they’re in love with someone they barely know i really enjoyed watching them get to know each other and care for each other. i also really like how they push one another to grow and change, how aviendha is never cowed by his dragon reborn or car’a’carn status and how willing to push back on rand she is, which is something he desperately needs especially as time goes on. and they’re just a sweet couple!

elayne/rand really was my first love though, and winter’s heart has been reminding me of why. they’re just SO SWEET together. it’s a crime they get so little time together on page because their scenes are always really cute and memorable. i love how elayne knew him Before Everything, and i love love love the material about the two of them together in the stone of tear, sneaking in kisses around lessons in ruling. elayne really gets why rand changes in the ways he does, fully understanding the demands of leadership and the need to make difficult calls. they’re both very duty-oriented people -- something they both also have in common with aviendha -- and it gives them similar priorities and a strong rapport of respect. for me, avirandlayne is THEE ship. the three of them love each other so much, have such strong bonds, and are so good for each other! let elayne be with avi and have the dragon reborn as her sidepiece the rare moments he’s back in caemlyn -- 

min/rand is a big oof. i don’t usually dislike female fictional characters when i can blame the writing for handling them badly, AND BOY THE WRITING HANDLES HER BADLY, but every time min is on the page is incredibly! grating! she is so insecure and controlling with rand?? this relationship is toxic to BOTH of them. min stop making changes for a man and love yourself. rand stop letting her treat you this way. there’s a lot i could say about min’s behavior once she’s done with the siuan/leanne/logain road trip and makes it back to rand (there is a LOT i could say), but it is wild to me how CONTROLLING she is of this boy with huge amounts of control issues. there’s a whole other meta i’ll write one day about ways rand tries to exert control in his life where his agency is constantly being ripped away from him, which makes it RIDICULOUS that his love interest who’s always with him is always being like this ?? she decides what he gets to know, she decides what cadsuane and other people get to know about him, she decides what impression he makes on people when she’s feeling insecure/jealous ?? she even decides when he gets to express vulnerability because when organic situations arise (rand stumbling from saidin sickness in front of her, rand being upset about deaths), she often misreads the situation or decides to distract him with sex instead of engaging with him on an emotional level. unless the moment arises when she wants him to open up to her, which tends to be at moments he’s not up to it, so of course nothing. happens. where elayne and aviendha really do seem happy to be in a poly relationship with rand, min is constantly privately thinking about how he should be in a monogamous one (with her) which is not her call! i just yesterday read the part where she tells rand she would’ve warder bonded him whether he likes it or not (min you’re not even a CHANNELER) and he compares that to alanna! MIN KNOWS WHAT ALANNA DID AT THIS POINT. meanwhile back at the bonding conversation where elayne did most of the talking, it was very much posed as an offer that he could say no to, and she was DISGUSTED once he told her how alanna bonded him without his consent. to be fair all the girls were, and it was good to see! 

this is a series that has a pretty wobbly relationship with consent in general, so i know min isn’t deliberately being presented in the way i’m perceiving her, but i am having an incredibly hard time with her and am dreading several more books of her being glued to rand’s side.
