something ive seen a lot of deltarune fans overlook: darkners can canonically shapeshift in the dark worlds.

when lancer is in the inventory, he's shown using his normal sprite. but during the cutscene where he frees kris from queen's uh. "personalized room", he's shown as a literal playing card. there's also a unused sprite showing rouxls as a rules card, apparently intended for the cutscene where he enters the inventory? so in other words, toby and his team took the time to create moving (!!) sprites of lancer and rouxls's light world forms specifically for use in the dark worlds.

(something else to note: rouxls' card has a white outline, while lancer's has a black outline. probably just a design choice, but perhaps worth noting?)

even if you think the playing cards are just representations, there is literally no way that lancer could "relax in kris's spacious pant hole" for the whole dark world trip and retain his normal form. i mean. this is their height difference.

yeah there is no way he would fit without massively reducing his size. something which he can evidently spontaneously control.

he takeaway from this is that yes, darkners can canonically shapeshift and still retain their consciousness (and also move??). put it that way, and the ralsei shapeshifter theory suddenly doesn't look too unlikely, does it?
