Oh yeah ... just getting it off exactly how it needs to given all the massive feels we're gonna get, right? Way to go, Marisha, filling in for Sam JUST RIGHT at the start ... XD "Off off off ... Buzzy hi, I'm here with a crit role question if you are okay with it. So the last couple of episodes a Lot has happened, a lot of lore was dropped, especially the last two episodes and I didn't see Fearne's connection to Rudius coming. And I've seen a lot of posts lately about how people are feeling about the pacing of this campaign in comparison with the VM and MN and that it is different in more than one way, for examples more characters with well established relationships pre campaign, also they all seemed to click with each other faster and the backstories were revealed earlier and there was a clear goal for most of them. So first I wanted to ask you what is your take on that? Because to me it doesn't feel like they are speedrunning, I think they are setting the stage for something bigger. Secondly, there is no denying that Imogen has the greatest main character vibes. And I love it, I mean I love her very much, Laura is really killing with this role. Also when they came to Bassuras all that had connections to this place, their stories moved forward which is what was expected to happen of course and Matt's storytelling is brilliant. But that leaves out Laudna and Chetney. And more than anything I'm worried about Laudna and her story. Worried is a strong word probably but yeah. I don't want her to be in the background and the supportive character because I know how much she loves Imogen and that they came to Jrusar because she wanted to help Imogen find out more about herself. But I have so many question about Laudna and things that I'd like to ask Marisha. For example I'm pretty sure Imogen is in love with Laudna because of all the hints Laura's been dropping but I don't know about Laudna I see it I see that she loves her but also it feels like Laudna herself has never thought about it?? I don't know what I'm talking about but like with Dusk Marisha had her suspicions, she and Travis were sharing glances and stuff but Laudna had no suspicions, she was the most open and welcoming towards Dusk so I'm just here like miss Ray I'd like to have a word with you? Sorry this ask got a lot longer than I intended it to be. If you want to share your thoughts/feelings on any of this, thank you!

oof yea that's a lot so much is happening I don't even know where to start.

i think...people underestimate just how much meandering goes on in a sandbox campaign at the early levels. it happens in every game but with BH it feels like matt's been building up to something big since day one with everyone's backstories and the political backdrop in jrusar (and now bassuras). and yea i don't think matt's speedrunning, it only feels like it is only because matt's dumping a Lot of lore, and that's because like....there's just...So much fucking lore with what they're dealing with regarding backstories (and I bet matt's been dying to go on about it since cr1). plus, this arc is almost piggybacking off of exu calamity because of the upcoming apogee solstice and we all know how well that went in calamity lol what the fuck.gif

i was telling a friend that this ruidis arc feels almost exactly like the briarwood arc and molly/lucien's arc, it's a stepping stone to something bigger much much later down the road. defeat delilah/lose molly, and find out a year later that delilah's ritual was successful/lucien rose from the dead almost a year later and is bringing basically the apocalypse. this arc here feels kinda like that. a small pebble in a lake with ripple effects that'll influence the rest of the campaign. i have no clue what to expect or just how much BH will have to do to prevent......whatever is happening cause god knows we still don't know shit for all the lore we got lmao.

so yea, i don't mind the pacing. it's dnd. things can be slow for ages and then suddenly crank up the gears to 11 without warning. vm went through it and so did tm9. and besides like, the crew did say that all bets were off in this campaign. expect everything and nothing.

oh god yea imogen's main character vibes is off the fucking charts, I'm so glad laura gets to show off her acting chops even more this campaign she's nailing it. and imogen is so fucking fascinating, it feels like how percy and fjord had main character vibes with arcs that lasted throughout the entire campaign, I'm so excited.

as for laudna though, i'm...i understand the worry. she is very much personally disconnected from this arc but I think we're all forgetting the little friend that lives inside her brain who still clearly craves power and vored a gnarlrock which did....Something. and guess what they're surrounded by right now? lol everything is fine. delilah isn't getting a front row seat to all this potential worldbreaking shit and thoughtfully steepling her evil fingers. she's not buying her time to absorb more power and take over laudna's body as her own at all. (yall I wonder if she knows that sylas is Dead lmao). honestly....i'd say not to worry about laudna getting a centerstage arc but also lmao I'm shaking in my fucking boots matt pls don't hurt me or my dead girl

and, we can't predict how relationships will pan out on cr but...i think laudna will figure it out. this is a slow burn to end all slow burns, but either way I just...want them to have a happy ending together so bad.

honestly shoutout to Marisha Ray for being unapologetically herself no matter how many people gave her shit for it. when i first got into dnd i was looking around to see what campaigns i could watch to try and learn and honestly seeing mainly men at the table made me feel like i didn’t even belong there. and then seeing Marisha who is similar to me, all long limbs and talking with her hands and just being herself, not letting anyone else get her down and her friends gently teasing but never actually making fun of her— that’s when i really got drawn into the world of critical role.

which, by the way, has been super helpful for this complete beginner. i learnt how to play dnd by watching critical role and then googling terms i didn’t understand. it was so much easier for me to see how everything plays out than try and figure it all out from the book.

anyway. my first dnd character is a half elf druid. thanks for the inspo, Marisha.

i’m very sorry this one is super unscientific of me, but would there be literally anything hotter than ashley playing a rogue?

laura: okay i am so sorry this draft has literally been sitting in my tumblr for months now and i STILL CAN’T THINK OF ANYTHING FOR LAURA. everything she does never ceases to surprise me and all i can say is i’m looking forward to it.

liam: tabaxi cleric

so on top of his emphasized fondness for cats in c2, liam kept saying he would take cree if there was a tpk and yknow what? i fully believe him.

liam…liam is just….ok. guys he’s just overflowing with love for his friends, i’m just waiting for him to play a support class, and we have this pattern of like. in c1 vax loooved magic, was super fascinated by it, and then there was his relationship with gilmore. in c2, while there’s not as big emphasis on healing specifically, mid-to-late game caleb absolutely throws himself into saving his friends, especially with that big pivotal moment of giving the luxon beacon up. also there’s his relationship with jester–“i may be the transmutation wizard, but you are the one who changes people.” soooo yeah. cleric.

marisha: tiefling bard

marisha’s gone pretty tame on races so far. i think that she would a) like to troll taliesin and b) branch out a little from her past characters. i’m predicting lots of terrible tinkerer jokes.

ok i just REALLY want to see marisha play a bard in a main game. she’s good at it. she’s just, kinda fucking amazing in general. and i would loooove to see her in a more perform-y character. beau and keyleth are both socially awkward in completely different directions…i have to wonder how marisha would play suave artist.

sam: kenku

to continue the trend of the small! also, holy shit, the mimicking is SO on brand with sam’s typical “make it a funny thing” > “fucking break your damn heart”. think about “go fuck yourself!” “ooh, i’m a captain” vs “i’m so proud of you” and “welcome to the mighty nein!”. i mean. come on. you KNOW sam would just lay us flat with a line from episode one in the hundredth episode that was a joke at the time but is suddenly heartbreaking

taliesin: centaur artificer

look if anyone’s gonna be a centaur, it’s gonna be taliesin. percy aside, we know he likes the out-there races and appearances. so. centaur

why artificer? cause i think percy has never left the back of taliesin’s head, and based on some of the stuff he’s said on talks that basically amounted to “fuck, shit, caduceus isn’t smart enough to figure that out”, i think he’ll want to go back to an inventive class

travis: aasimar sorcerer

ok so aasimars are kickass. travis tends to play physically imposing characters and i feel like he’d have fun playing with all the appearance variations that they get. plus i personally think it would be neat after ash played a barbarian. like. now they’ve got a thing yknow

i think travis really loved the casting part of being a palalock (wardin?), he took way more levels in warlock than i was expecting. maybe he’s ready to go next level in the spells department? i know he’s said he found it intimidating before, which is why i didn’t predict wizard cause that’s a whooole mess lol

Character Thoughts (As of Episode 68) Because Ranking Them is Now Impossible and I Give Up

Vax: I love those sexy, sexy paladin levels. The RP potential of a rogue turned paladin is so good. That communion scene was *chef’s kiss*

Keyleth: She is creeping up on number one, not gonna lie. High level druids are badass and Marisha does so well diversifying her selections to maximize the potential for damage and just fucking shit up. Also, her high fiving Vax after her confession made me LOL for real.

Percy: (I mean, is that fair? He’s technically not...whatever.) No Mercy Percy ftw. That title drop in Syngorn was probably my favorite moment of this little mini-session, but watching Taliesin gleefully play about in the Feywild was amazing. I mean, he’s a fae-being himself, so I should have expected that.

Vex: Excuse me. Lady Vex’ahlia, Baroness of the Third House of Whitestone and Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt. Now she has a title that befits who she always was on the inside. Her reaction to that title drop was so good, though.

Scanlan: The Meat Man Cometh. That entire spice escapade in Ank’harel gave me life.

Grog: He did not have a great time in the Feywild, but I LOVED Travis’ entire commitment to that petrification and his genuine frustration at not hitting anything, AND THEN HE FORGOT.

Pike: Poor Ashley, her work schedule keeps her from being with her friends (and they really, really need her now). I hope Pike gets to come back soon.

Hi VM anon here just to say i finished with the Briarwood arc and started the Conclave arc and NOSSA SENHORA, i'm already wrecked from all this. The Twins are always a joy to see, i like Scanlam a lot more now that i see where his arc may be going, impressive is the only word i can use for Percy, Grog is going tru something with that blade i guess, Pike is really the rock that stops the party going to hell and Keyleth is my absolute favorite character right now, even when she get spells wrong kk

(VM anon here) Actually, i change what i said about Percy. I think he is trying to hard to push things into a morally grey deal, but not in a interesting way like we are starting to see in the M9, and that just doesn’t fit well with a party with such a black-and-white mentality. I also didn’t like how the comments kept praise his edgy tired takes about crime being needed and using them to shit on the party members who didn’t go with it. (Sorry if this is irritating, i know you are a Percy fan).

(VM anon, sorry) Again, sorry for sending these non-stop (maybe i should just get a tumblr already dunno), But my biggest griefs about Percy is this new attitude he got in the Conclave arc after such a great Briarwood arc. Anyone from a country where organized crime is so big cannot say that they are in no way, shape or form important for society to work and i feel a particular kind of fury to characters that believe they do because of “things” that happened to family members of mine. Sorry 2.0.

Don’t apologize, i love it! It’s funny because people get mad at Percy for the same reasons on why i love Percy. “He doesn’t fit well in the party”, exactly! How is this fucker in the middle of that group of chaotic good people? I think that Taelisin always talked about how he’s such an angsty teenager thats just…a fucking asshole lmao. He’s right!

About M9, i personally don’t think that the things with M9 are getting morally grey, at least not their characters. The only situation that i saw that it was kind of like that it was the Mess that they did when Cad almost drowned? That was an interesting situation, even more the talk after it. But now? They are not morally grey, they just don’t….know what the fuck is going on lol. They’re all pretty much good people that would do the good thing.

Ok, first of all, an advice that i’m sorry that i didn’t give you before: Don’t read the comments. Like. Ever. I can’t deny that Kiki sometimes annoyed me, but when i look at the comments i was like wtf. I started to look at the comments and then i stopped, because i realized that it didn’t help me with anything. I was taking negative energy from the comments and it ruined my perspective of the show, so i stopped and i started to enjoy the show again, alone, now without other voices involved.

Now that i said that, i can continue. Percy? My boy is not a good person. He’s selfish, arrogant and entitled. I love him, but i don’t know if ill be his friend. Maybe with the Percy in the end, he has his shit together, kind of. But why do i love him? Storywise, he’s such a good character. Always-happy dynamics can be nice, but confrontations between characters are very interesting and are actually the things that allow stronger bonds. And i can’t think of big confrontations in VM without this dickhead involved. I was not surprised with his opinion about crime in society because first of all, he has a political background. Monarchy and things like that were always around him, so he’s not gonna be the first to come out and scream “revolution agaisnt the power!” because well, he always was part of the power. He’s insensitive with those things because he’s used to have them in his perspective of the world, his reaction was “well, it be like that”. And let’s not forget that his way was always “the end justifies the means”. This man accepted to make a weapon that he knew it was gonna kill millions of people, in the name of revenge. in the name of his family. in the name of what he needed, in his desesperation. Now, i find that deal that he wanted to make interesting because, would he fulfill it if he really realized the real consequences? If he had to deal with the consequences himself or at least see them in flesh? I don’t know. He’s very good at talking and deals, but decision maker? He needs to be controlled. I mean, this fucker made a deal with a demon (i love saying that but to be fair he didn’t knew that it was a demon or that it was real lol).

You’re probably talking about the Kiki vs Percy situation. Oh boy, those are an interesting pair. They’re both young, they are put as the head of their people in a traumatic way, they’re impulsive as fuck and have very different opinions, like, always. It’s so fun and interesting for me. I honestly don’t remember on what side i was on that situation, but i was more in the Percy side for one thing: when i’m in a discussion, i analyze a lot, i tried to be cold to be in control of the fight. And Kiki, lovely Kiki with the heart full of fire, it’s so fucking confrontational. I remember that i was frustrated with her because i believe that if people see you fight with your own allies, that’s a weak point. I don’t like to antagonize someone that can be your worst headache tomorrow. I think that you have to be smart about stuff, even if you want to follow Kiki’s side, there’s nothing good in adding enemies in your list, especially in that situation. I think that even Marisha got frustrated with how Kiki acted in many situations, but she had to be loyal to the characterization. Again, i love their confrontations because they’re both can be so hardheaded but they’re still best friends. They both have a lot on their shoulders, but they need each other.

I want to add one more thing, don’t think that Percy’s character development ended with the Briarwoods arc. He has a looong way to go yet. He has to deal with a lot of things about himself, and learn how to cope with them. That man is a mess still. He needs to developt complex relationships with everyone in the group and find his own place on it. Don’t forget that the group spend years thinking that Percy was the Responsible Adult when he was just a traumatized barely-legal kid with a demon inside of him, so he filled that role but now, that’s changing and he needs to adapt to it. His reaction on the fact that he’s not always in control anymore it’s actually pretty funny.
