We’re at the stage in fic writing where I needlessly add context and backstory to characters who are all already dead before the story started. In other news, guess how many dead parents there are in the taxonomy!verse?
We have Bette’s dead dad and (surprise!) not-dead-but-should’ve-been-dead adoptive mom.
Tom’s dead mom. She’s only mentioned for a couple panels but you bet your ass I’m adding so much tragedy there. Especially since it’s more recent compared to most of these other ones.
We have the adoptive parents (my ocs) of Damian that raised him for only a few years before the League got to them. (SotD!!!)
We have the highly specific version of Willis and Catherine Todd that I made in my head. They’re actually really sweet, which adds to the tragedy of Jason’s life, and also adds some stuff to his particular POV chapters in Chiroptera.
Finally, various parental figures (and sibling figures) from the League that taught Damian things. (This lad fit so many dead family members in his childhood!! That he actively blocks from his memory!!)
(Not even counting the dead parent smorgasbord of freshly-dead Bruce, the Graysons, and the Drakes).
We have fun here.
I’d add more context for you all as to the actual headcanons and histories I’m creating - but spoilers… I don’t want to ruin any build up for the fic series.

I’m currently listening to Soul of the Deep by Natasha Bowen and Simi is blaming herself for all the bad stuff that has been happening but like, actually it’s really not her fault? Like, spoilers for Skin of the Sea and the first quarter of SotD (and forgive me for any misspelled names, I’ve only listened to the audiobooks and I’m guessing based on how they’re pronounced) but the only thing Simi actually did WRONG was save Kola, and even that wasn’t totally her fault. Yemoja didn’t explain that she couldn’t save someone who was still alive when they were tossed into the sea! And yeah, Yemoja says “I shouldn’t have had to explain,” but as an autistic person I often don’t intuitively know the rules, and I know a lot of other auties have a hard time following rules they don’t understand the purpose of. So to me, it makes sense that the first time Simi, who values life, finds someone still alive, she saves him!
But everything else is TOTALLY Eshu’s fault and then Oloku’s. Even without knowing that Simi had saved Kola, Eshu was looking for the rings and it sounds like he stole them/the twins before he realized Simi had broken that decree. NO ONE wanted him to have those rings, it wasn’t just Simi needing them to talk to Olodumare, although that’s why she happened to help rescue the twins.
So then she gets Oloku’s help to bind Eshu and makes a deal with him that he will give Eshu back to Olodumare! And she keeps her part of the deal! She did everything right to fix her mistake! It was Oloku who broke his side of the bargain by keeping Eshu for six months and allowing the Ajogun to gain more influence. I don’t know about you but of all the people I would expect to respect their part of a bargain, deities are at the top of that list. Again, Simi did everything right!
Because of the one mistake she made—rescuing Kola, something she didn’t realize would have the consequences it did—she blames herself for all the pettiness of the gods she’s dealing with, when that’s all it is! The gods being petty!
I’m SO hoping that part of her character arc in SotD is her realizing that not all of this is her fault.

Might not have a Song of the Demon update today because I finally got myself going on the writing for the TOH/SWU fic? as penance. Here is a snippet from both (TOH/SWU before the cut, chapter 11 of SOTD below the cut so those who want to avoid spoilers for it can ;)
///
The mission shouldn’t have caused any difficulties for him. It’d just been a routine, non-event of go in, find the targets, eliminate them. Nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing that isn’t already branded into his job description.
///
Despite this, Hunter is not yet on good terms with his uncle, considering recent events. The emperor interrogates him the day after his arrival.
Of course, Hunter tells him of all that had happened.

So I don't keep up with destiny anymore so I'm a little behind. Does sotd actually bring back titan or is it just a dungeon? And if it is back would you have to pay to access it? (I know you have to pay for story missions and such) Cause if you do that would be a little rude, taking away a place I already paid for them making me pay again to get it back.
it doesn’t look like titan is being brought back as a full patrol zone like it used to be. it’s currently returning in the same capacity as mars did, where it is really only a location where activities/missions are taking place (excluding the enclave in mars’s case). i bought the deluxe edition because i’ve been playing this game since the D1 beta and i’m a sucker so i don’t know what it looks like outside of the season pass, but i’m sure you do have to buy this season to get back to titan since at present it’s entirely tied to the seasonal story and activities. i can’t tell you if it only being an activity location makes having to pay for it again not feel as bad. i understand the frustration with that in regards to having bought D2 only to have the story and zones you paid for taken away, and then for them to return as limited areas behind a seasonal pay wall. i think it’s a real issue bungie should have addressed far better quite awhile ago
