Opposites (grumpy/sunshine etc): 0 I don't really care much for this trope, I think it's a bit overdone

Enemies to lovers, Enemies with benefits: +10 YES. THE SPICY SPICE OF THE FORBIDDEN!!! THE DAGGER TO THE THROAT. This is what I always go for when I feel bad. Semester is over and I am so burnt out I don't have the energy to do anything? Enemies to lovers.

Friends with benefits: 0 I don't care either way

Sex to feelings: +5 There's something satisfying when it was just supposed to be a quickie because they were both drunk but then the author hits you with the italicized oh and it just happens.

Fake dating/relationship: +6 y e s. Especially if it is a very elaborate scheme

Friends to lovers: -4 Idk why, it's just a no for me.

Found Family: +3 I think it's a bit overdone? But it's always a good one (looking at you Six of Crows)

Hurt/Comfort: +7 GIVE ME ALL THE HURT AND THEN ALL THE COMFORT YES

Love Triangle: -2 SO OVERDONE!!! 2014 YA novels called, they want their tropes back (no hate to anyone who likes this!!!)

Poly, open relationships: 0 I don't think I have read anything with polyamoury or open relationships yet? RECS???

Mistaken/hidden identity: +4 ESPECIALLY if they are secretly enemies (and one of them doesn't know it and they fall for each other asjkfdakljghal)

Monsterfucking: +8 vampires? YES. Daddy Cullen, Astarion. YES

Pregnancy: -8 okay if it just is part of the story (I'm currently writing a fic where the couple canonically has a kid, so I HAD to include the pregnancy) and if it's not overly detailed then I am 100% fine with it, but if it's friends with benefits and then OH NO someone is pregnant, now we have a huge fight but then they confess their feelings and... UGH. not my thing

Second Chance: -10 NOPE. If one of you besties EVER sees me even THINKING about giving someone a second chance, SPRAY ME WITH WATER LIKE A NAUGHTY CAT!!!!! Not even in fiction

Slowburn: +7 When executed nicely, this is T H E B E S T. But the wait needs to pay off if you catch my drift

It really depends on the ship for this one. There are times where it's a hard no and other times where it's a bonus.

Codependency: 4

Yes yes I like it. Extra points if it's a lil toxic. I like reading fics where the characters are not well and love each other too much because it's something I actively avoid in real life.

Usually yes, but it also depends on the ship. There are some where I just can't see them being possessive/jealous and can't read it if its about them.

1. soulmate au where harry and (OMC/ one of the boys/ another celeb) are roommates and best friends. there’s a whole movement of people who don’t think soulmates should determine who you end up with and believe you can fall in love with others just as much as you could your soulmate or something like that. OMC has been heartbroken too many times due to dating people he’s not matched to. so he’s made it a rule to never bring home people he’s dating or introduce them to his friends until he knows it’s serious. after months of dating, OMC finally brings home his boyfriend louis and introduces him to his friends. harry and louis have an instant connection but don’t know why that is. they spend the night talking and hitting it off (while hanging out w the group). soon after a few weeks or so they find out they’re soulmates! louis is one of those people who don’t believe soulmates have to be endgame and plus he loves OMC and wants to make it work. louis stops talking to harry as much, and maybe neither tell OMC ab the bond (up to author ). louis starts being sort of mean to harry so lots of harry pining, sexual tension, sort of friends to enemies to lovers type thing. obviously larry endgame pls would prefer it to be a long fic, angsty, and funny! maybe at one point OMC notices the tension or maybe louis accidentally moans harry’s name? could even include cheating (like louis and harry end up getting drunk one night and give in to the bond and hook up?

2. harry is getting married to OFC/female celeb and him and louis have been besties for years. they had been separated for a year when they both moved on to college but had kept contact through phone calls and visits every now and then. louis had met OFC but had never really interacted w her, their visits had mostly consisted of h+l taking the whole day or weekend to hang out or go out w the rest of the boys. harry+OFC have been a couple for maybe a year or so??? harry calls louis to give him the big news on his engagement and asks louis to be his best man. lots of wedding planning stuff, louis pining, hating the OFC but being nice to her face. OFC thinks louis is great and starts befriending him and inviting him out places and asking him to help w wedding plans etc. zayn as louis’ other best friend and louis complaining to him ab OFC and mocking her niceness and whatever since he can’t do it to her face. sexual tension!!!! and then getting away w stuff not so platonic like louis and harry cuddling when alone, or being naked around each other, or getting a little too close during dancing or whatever at the bachelor party all because OFC doesn’t see louis as a threat since he’s a man and h doesn’t realize it’s not normal since that’s how they’ve always acted since they were kids. maybe harry doesn’t realize he’s bisexual yet and that’s why? something like that. i was thinking the love interest for harry could be kendall but up to author.

oh god i love a good enemies to lovers omg, and idk if this counts as a Trope but it's common of me to write "two characters have a heart to heart while they can't sleep"

also though my hottest take is that i don't Mind miscommunication/misunderstanding as a concept omg

AND i love roommates/neighbors tropes!!

and yeah i feel that with coffeeshop AUs like i think they have the potential to be so much fun and just super silly but i feel like that is like The AU that people either love or hate with a passion

and oH my god ngl i'm a sucker for any type of AU that is like "fwb to oh-fuck-i-caught-feelings"

and also for a more basic trope, i really do love one-sided-long-term crushing/pining like there is just something so charming abt it to me

17. A trope you’ll never, ever write for.

tbh i'm not really a fan of soulmate AUs??? i find them kinda boring tbh, like ajksdjkd not even the Concept Themselves bc i know like. i don't subscribe to the concept of ~one soulmate~ in real life but in fiction? i think it can definitely be very cute and charming, but just those AUs that went around years ago like "you can't see color until the day you meet your soulmate" and etc, like idk that's not interesting to me omg. and even on the flip side, i'm also not interested in AUs where people defy their soulmate situation or whatever. i'm much more interested in "across multiple lifetimes, the same two people keep coming back to each other" like THAT is ideal to me <3

i am also very neutral on "there was only one bed" like conceptually i like it!!!!! but for my own writing abt beds, i am much more into sharing a bed for probably some hurt/comfort reasons

also i once saw a post that was like "high school AUs stop being appealing when ur out of high school" and like. so true bestie like this isn't even a bash Against high school AUs bc i def See and Get the appeal, but as someone who is now 4 years out of highschool, i no longer want to imagine my favorite characters in high school lmao, so rn i'm still in my "college AUs are pretty fun" phase but i might only have like a year left of that too akjsdjkdsjk
