Status update on the dark relic nsfw comic please ma'am 🙏 my family is dying
Tumblr media
ITS DONE!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉...well, the DRAWING part is as of yesterday BAHAHA. now im just adding all the dialogue/speech bubbles/sfx, SO ITS DEFINITELY GONNA BE SOON!! DEFS BY THIS WEEKEND!! ive just been very nitpicky on the font which i cant decide on LMAO and im also nitpicky abt other final touches LOL. i didnt wanna show anymore cuz ive already shown so much but HERES THE FINAL SNEAK PEEK
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and speaking of fonts, i normally use handwriting by jeremy paz!
Tumblr media
oh man its so random, but i either use the name lumi or clora for everything whenever i play rpgs (baldurs gate 3, dragon age, you name it) and clora originated from rune factory 4 LOL. theres a character named 'clorica' and i really liked that name, it sounds so elegant and fantasy ish, so i eventually just shortened it to clora bahaha. now its my go-to. i like how simple it is but it also sounds unique and works in modern AND fantasy settings, imo
Tumblr media
my first and ONLY playthrough was as clora! i originally did try to make myself at the start, but i have short brown hair and straight across bangs, and they didnt have a style that felt 'me', so i went with just making a ravenclaw that i liked, and then gave her my go-to name of clora HAHA. and yea, i built up her and sebs relationship in my head as i was playing, especially with all the running around the castle i did. i just liked to imagine her constantly out of breath and flushed and seb just watching like ....🧍girl chill...
Tumblr media
AND SPEAKING OF MY DARK RELIC COMIC/SMUT, my biggest advice for writing smut id say is to have a reasoning behind it, i guess? i focus a lot on their headspace/WHY they're fucking at that moment when i write it LOL instead of just the movements/sex for the sake of sex. in your case, the sexual tension leading up to the first time gives you SO much to work with, since you can just be in his head with how much hes looking forward to it, how much hes savouring it, how he's also nervous but enjoying it and trusting the other person, etc. the thoughts are hotter than the actual deed a lot of the times (which is why when clora and seb did it for the first time it ended up being like, 15k words of just foreplay and build up from sebs perspective LMAOO) so yeah id just try to focus on their emotions and desires if you can! and a lot of the times with consent stuff it CAN feel forced, and you dont even really need your characters to talk about that stuff verbally, at least not too much. you can do it in body language, or just something as simple as 'ill stop if you want'. it doesnt have to be a long therapist-like conversation about consent, which CAN tend to sound a little awkward and unrealistic (esp in the heat of the moment), if thats the problem you're having. HOPE I COULD HELP
Tumblr media
also i love this for you and for me. YES GO ON AND MAKE A BUNCH OF CLORA CLONES, I COMMAND IT👉👉👉
Tumblr media
and last but not least the most important question. honestly i like plain sweets a lot with no icing/filling. im a slut for shortbread cookies and also just plain glazed donuts. and also custard/portugese/egg tarts, which i also forced clora to like in my fic HAHA. IF YOU HAVENT HAD THEM YOU HAVE TO, THEYRE SO GOOD😩😩💖💖

Forbidden romance theory is garbage.
Hypothetically, all Elain has to do, is to just tell Lucien she has 'feelings' for Azriel who thinks he is entitled to her.Lucien will be devastated, but he will gracefully bow out and respect her choice.
And if that happens, how would it be a FoRbIdDen romance? ✨No one cares ✨, no tension, nothing.
The 'forbidden love' E/riels crave works only if Elain is not upfront with Lucien. Keeping everyone in the dark and sneaking around is what I've seen some of them speculate.
Sorry, this is SJM. Not Penelope Douglas.
Here's the thing: That sounds disgusting and is low-key cheating. Elain's actions till now don't fall under cheating imo, because she's uncertain about the bond. Once she decides firmly? Why sneak around without telling Lucien who has been nothing but respectful, gentle and caring? That would paint both Elain and Azriel in a shitty light. Lucien has been a fan favourite, so the book would be a flop to see two people needlessly string a decent guy along and be cruel to him.
It's just not happening, and it makes zero sense.
Good thing that Elucien is clearly endgame though. We don't have to cook unrealistic theories. The stage is all set to witness Lucien Vanserra charm his mate, Elain Archeron.☀️🦊

rotb spoilers i talk abt Noah in depth bc im autistic and its 1 am
(this is also strictly talking abt the movies)
idk bout yall, but i really like Noah and his character and the way he interacts with everything thrown at him., I really like how (because of Mirage's chill personality) he wasn't completely overwhelmed by the existence of robot aliens. sure he was freaking the hell out abt the car driving by itself but yknow he caught on pretty quickly. and this is also due to the fact that he wanted to save earth as well. and specifically he wanted to help his brother. can we talk abt the fact that he was so willing to go against his morals just to scrounge up some sort of cash to help his family. as soon as he got into Mirage he was like "I don't wanna do this" and he was trying to get out the car. I also really like the relationship Noah had with his little brother. trying to be that light in his life and give hope. doing everything just to help his little brother not be in so much pain. it was just a nice touch to show us how truly compassionate and caring Noah is and you could really feel that through the performance, imo. you can tell they've both been struggling for quite some time. you feel sorry for when Noah gets immediately rejected by that security officer, and he's completely honest and trying to explain how he deserves a second chance (and he does) and he's probably repeated those reasons a thousand times in the past. he almost completely doubts himself until his brother reiterates that they're always gonna be there together and theybcan do it. and even though it sounds unrealistic, me and my sister have said the same thing to each other so it feels all the more powerful to me. it's a completely different approach to a character in the movie series and I cannot appreciate it enough.
and can I just say, sorry to the sam likers out there, I like how Noah doesn't just immediately insult Mirage trying to save him or befriend him. they actually have a strong ass bond almost right off the bat. sam was always yelling at bee everytime bee came in to save his ass (I hated this bc bee can do no wrong ok) but when Mirage was fighting scourge all by himself JUST to buy time for Noah, literslly risking his life for Noah. literslly becoming a suit of armor for him. Noah was nearly in tears, watching mirage's optics fade becsuse they've already become so close. Noah and Mirage have the silliest banter because they just get along so well. I know it's kind of stupid to compare the two (sam/bee and noah/mirage) but my point is simply: they connect so well together and I really fucking appreciate that. we've seen it with Charlie and Bee where they genuinely care for each other and now we see it again with Noah and Mirage. its just so nice to see the two get along swimmingly. even after they save the world, Mirage meets Noah's brother and everything and Noah begins to fix Mirage up as well. showing that they've become closer after the entire incident.
and Mirage. I just gotta say he is seriously the star of the show. Pete Davidson did an amazing job with him. and Mirage's personality fits with Noah so incredibly well. They've got the same type of style, use the same slang, stuff like that, and they compliment each other. Mirage is so genuinely interested and curious about Noah that he comes off as extremely friendly, defensive, and playful. He doesn't hesitate to risk his life for Noah and he gives Noah a little gauntlet to at least keep himself safe when they're apart. he even tells Noah off the bat that he can turn into any car and be sold so Noah can have money for his family. Maybe its the fact that Mirage has been cooped up and told to stay hidden for so long that he can't help but appreciate the first person to "reawaken" him, but regardless their relationship is just extremely refreshing and nice. The way they can bounce off each other is awesome. God i love them so much honestly I can't think of a better duo than these two theyre just perfect for each other whether its platonic or more

this is like. so non-important compared to all my other grievances with the webcomic but like. the reasons kim hyunsoo gives for changing javier's hair from silver to mint. lol. lmao even.
they're so,, lazy,,,,
Tumblr media
that sounds like a skill issue my dude :/
i mean the novel illustrations did it perfectly well imo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'but nali' i hear you say 'those are novel illustrations, where there's only one drawing per chapter. of course it's more difficult to do in a webcomic'
and sure. you're right. it's very different in a webcomic. in fact i am almost certain that no webcomic has ever had a protagonist with silver hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
not a single webcomic ever has done that before. truly. a completely unrealistic expectation to have.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
really it's not like silver hair is one of the most popular tropes in manhwa and almost every other webcomic has one of those
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
clearly. this was a completely impossible thing to ask of an adaptation. it's not like it's one of the most iconic parts of our protagonist's design. it's not like it's mentioned almost every single time javier is onscreen.
really. what a truly necessary change.
which. speaking of.
Tumblr media
now, correct me if i'm wrong. but shouldn't your deuteragonist, the very first character your character meets, your second main character's design,,, more important than a secondary character that isn't introduced like,,, more than a hundred episodes later???
like. i don't think we even get told what color lloyd's hair is. but god does the novel mention that habiel has silver hair every five minutes.
i'm sorry i just think that if you're gonna adapt something the very least thing you could do is try to be faithful to one of the very few character descriptions we ever get! especially that of your goddamn main character!
how come a secondary character takes precedence over him?? why not change that character's hair color then???
and even then. if your character design skills suck so much that two characters having the same hair color is enough to make them look too similar perhaps there's a bigger problem here.
i just,,,, i am almost certain i know what character he's speaking of. maybe even two characters. hell maybe even three. but fucking guess what. the webnovel illustrations already did designs for those characters. it gave them all silver hair. and there was No Issue at all because their designs were so distinct from one another that at no point was there any doubt of who was who. because that's what good character design is about.
like. that's such a stupid reason oh my godddd if you're gonna pull that bs then what's your excuse for all those other characters with brown hair. are you not worried they're gonna overlap because their hair color is the same. i mean you made silurian's brown hair darker so now it matches like 90% of your background characters. do their design not overlap like that.
i'm just!! it's such a stupid thing to get mad about!! especially when there's far more egregious changes being made but like!! it just,,, it shows the kind of attitude the people adapting tged into a webcomic have towards the source material
it's not about the hair color. i mean it is but there's more to it. it's about how the artists feel comfortable disregarding parts of the novel and canon because it's more convenient to them. it's about how they prefer to focus on unimportant stuff that gets them a few laughs rather than put a little bit of effort into getting their characters right. it's about how they waste entire panels into making ugly faces and repetitive jokes rather than take a bit of time to get the hair color of their protagonist correctly.
it is,, disappointing i guess :/
and because i'm petty. here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that's literally it. that's all kim hyunsoo had to do. it's such a tiny detail and yet. couldn't be bothered to get it right lol

Reading the part of why some people like Chaggie is that sometimes people prefer ships that's all fluff and no drama, it's like yeah, that's perfectly fine! I'm not one to judge!
But at the same time it also comes across as a bit... unrealistic? If you get what I'm trying to say?
The thing about relationships is that... not everything is going to be perfect and happy. Sometimes conflicts happen, sometimes couples get into fights. And it's by getting through these fights that their love can survive and shows how they won't let small things come between them.
But in Chaggie's case, the conflict it DID have... didn't even have the main couple talk through this. As much as I love Rosie, I feel her talk with Charlie robbed the chance to hear Vaggie explain why she never thought to tell her sooner or what she felt would've happened if the truth came out.
So again, I don't feel right supporting a ship that has this many holes and things that the show just sweeps under the rug.
Hmmm I can agree with a lot of points here tbh! Not all, but most of them at least!
Like how the amount with which any and all conflict between them just kind of resolves itself magically without any real, productive conversations taking place makes it fall really flat - I've outlined in a previous post (which you should be familiar with already, seeing as you prompted that one too lol) how I'd try to go about fixing that specific issue within the narrative...
... but I still think it's a perfectly valid ship to ship (most ships are actually) and I feel like "not supporting" is kind of an odd word choice? You can certainly dislike a ship and choose not to engage with it out of personal taste preferences, but using the word "support" makes it sound a bit like you're looking at shipping like it's a sports competition or like it's a matter of morality skdjhsdkjf
Shipping has never been and will never be a contest (no matter how much modern fandom culture is sometimes desperately trying to make it so) and imo chaggie actually even deserve some slack for how much it got botched by canon imho. It's such a harmless, wholesome ship whose only glaring flaw is that the writing made them bland and threw out any crumb of opportunity to change that.
I commend the fans that are trying to salvage what they can from the mess the show made of them and my lack of emotional investment in them is 100% a grievance aimed at how the writing executed them, not the pairing in concept or its fanbase at large.

for the violence ask game: 8 common fandom opinion everyone is wrong about. for milgram. i know exactly what you're going to say i just want to see you go off again
Hiii bestie. You do know what I'm about to talk about. Yippee
Disclaimer that this whole essay is like. For fun and how I say things is ramped up to be funny. I don't mind if you disagree w me cuz like that's the nature of things! We disagree but we can get along.
Anyways short answer for people who don't wanna see the essay: organ harvesting theory. This is about shidou.
Idk how prevalent it is rn since not many people even talk about shidou but it was prevalent enough in June when I got into milgram that I believed it for a bit anyways the rest in under the cut cuz I'm insane sorrg
SO the main reason I think the theory is WRONG (hyperbole‼️) is because I just think it's unrealistic. Man works in a hospital in Japan. How would he pull it off. Scuff an operation bad enough to cause braindeath/death and I'm p sure they suspend your medical licence, if he participated in an organ harvesting operation pre-family-accident his case would then be black and white cuz he was doing it in complete sound mind with no regard for human life. Also it wouldn't justify the extreme reaction he's had to realizing, specifically, "what I've been robbing people of" (t1 voice trailer), and he wouldn't have as heavy a focus on the relatives' feelings and reactions. At least story writing wise it'd make less sense since it doesn't allude to anything if that's the end goal? Imo at least. Idk maybe this is because I really like tragedies in media. Also because it'd be a really disproportionately severe crime compared to every other direct murderer???? Like. We have strangled someone, stabbed someone, bludgeoning, bludgeoning, kicked someone to death. Organ harvesting looks cartoony in this context. It's also not a very prevelant issue in Japan iirc.
Also to prove my point further. If we use this theories the murders would be
Strangling, abortion??????, cyber bullying, stabbing, organ harvesting, toxic r/s, telling the truth (lmao), bludgeoning, bludgeoning, bludgeoning (minus weapon). Organ harvesting is goofy cuz it seems so.... Extreme,,,,,,,
ALSSOOOOO funny point. If he's not directly involved in his murder (as in, unintentional and indirect) that makes 5 direct and 5 indirect. Silly.
Also also his murder seems somewhat tied to how he feels about his job itself ("I wanted to contribute to society (about his career choice)/I had thought my work was a contribution to society", use of past tense) and to me it reads like hes disillusioned w his job esp since his reason for getting a highly sought after, high paying and high social ranking job is "I wanted to contribute to society". Doctors with that empathy can be affected by the death around them more severely and I think that's a fun topic to look at
I count this under "common fandom opinion" cuz it was common enough around June (whenyours truesly got into milgram) that I believed it. I mean I introduced shidou to my friend (hello clown) as "maybe Dr malpractice. Organ harvesting dude" and said friend (hello again clown) is also the one who's heard me bash the organ harvesting theory like 6 times at least now so. Yippee.
Take none of this seriously I just got off a plane and am so very eepy. If you like the organ harvesting theory good for you!!!!!!!💥💥💥💥💥 you do you bestie !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I literally do not think less of anyone who believes that theory I just personally dont lmao
#sand speaks#hiiiii bestie my silly mutual. youve heard this rant before now for it poorly formatted in text#i mean its better formatted than when i actually talk abt it cuz if i wrote it the way i originally did the points would not be organised#like at all. itd be so bad#anyways all of this is lighthearted i dont think less of anyone with different opinions i just. dont believe the theory at all#i like the tragedy thag comes woth it technhcally not being his fault but also kinda being his fault.#like maybe he had really bad manners towards relatives. or horribls bedside manner (youre in my way just die already“ like ok mr kirisaki.#dont say that to a comatose patient my dude. but yeah it can be argued that morally hed be in the wdong#or if he persuaded relatives to dknate patients organs. which is rude and also malpractice (coercion and taking advantage of ppl in vulnerab#and with his themes of lying (covers) i fhink it could wither be lying to relatives of patients OR. him seeing hsi work and the promise of#saving people from illness or death as a lie and a hoax becasye so many people died anyways despite those promises#anhwyas im insane about this man. characters with extreme worldviews entirely of their own making my beloved#like nothing told him to believe this. he just does and thats whats interesting to me#anywasy suuper sorry about the big essay and the many tags. i love this fandom#i have so much to say but so little phone battery. and mental battery its Zzzzzzzzz time#tell me if abything in here sounds mean or anything btw im too used to being mean as a jokiing thing so im worried ill offend someone

Since u worked with kids do you have any opinions on that "millennial's kids are the worst" discourse?
(Imo I don't think they are the worst just bc their parents are millennials but I do get the feel they do not know what authority means. Not in a "in this household I'm god" way, but more in a "I am responsible for what happens to you so we need to follow rules" way.)
it's becoming a fairly consistent observation among teachers and other child care workers -- especially those in school -- that younger generations are becoming more difficult, and i agree with that.
to be fair, i worked in an after school program, so expecting these kids to sit down and learn after six hours of school is, imo, an unrealistic expectation. but it's what we had to do.
there's a very noticeable shift in parental responsibilities. i've seen kids WAY too attached to their school-issued chromebooks and tablets, and that's literally all most of the kids, even the little ones, ever wanted to do. either that or go outside, which depended on the weather, and we're not allowed to just let the kids play the whole time.
the attention issues were INSANE. we couldn't get through thirty seconds of talking without kids chatting or totally ignoring us. though some kids knew how to raise their hands (or be constantly reminded to), most would just talk whenever, talk over their peers, and talk over us. it was exhausting.
but the worst thing to me was how disrespectful they were to each other. talking while a kid is talking, or doing something distracting, and then expecting to get more respect while they talk despite showing no respect for the other kid. i would constantly remind these kids of the Golden Rule, and it's like i was speaking another language.
most of them also refuse to accept responsibility for their actions, constantly making excuses and trying to pin blame on another kid. many of them didn't know how apologies work. and yeah, we all know kids aren't perfect little angels, but there was a time where kids cared about these things, and about other kids. my mom didn't just punish me if i messed up, she sat down and helped me understand why it was a mistake and why i should apologize.
...and watching PBS helped a lot too. big shout out to Arthur.
but if their parents are relying on electronics (with little to no supervision) and, more importantly, teachers to care for their kids when it's their job to raise them right, how can we blame the kids? how can i fault a little girl for being spoiled and self-centered when her daddy thinks paying us the big bucks in holiday money makes everything better? how can i blame a little boy for biting other kids when his mom gets mad at us for trying to hold him accountable?
so TL;DR: yeah i think going "ugh (x) kids are the worst" isn't a solution to the problem, but the way that parenting is changing now is affecting the kids. and as tired and boomer as it may sound, social media and electronics -- as well as capitalism in general -- are a major factor.

k this is kinda random but i feel like a lot of people think that hob is some sort of super rare exception, the ONE person who would actually be happy living forever. but like. i feel like he's not really that special?
like, most people lose friends/family/partners and,,,, don't want to die? most people aren't suicidal? and people DO live for 80+ years now without committing suicide. is it really so "unrealistic" for somebody to live several times longer than that without wanting to die? but of course in so much of the media nowadays (see: the old guard, for example), immortality is perceived as a) a bad thing and b) something which only Evil People want because they're Greedy. and because of this, we all think of immortality as a curse, nobody would want to live forever, etc. in all the stories we tell, it's about people not wanting to live forever. and so we think that nobody would want to live forever. (side tangent: this is maybe why dream is so "who would want an eternity of this" - he's the prince of stories and all the stories say that nobody would want this.)
anyway imo hob isn't special for continuing to want to live. most people like living / aren't suicidal. actually i think neil gaiman is really cool for making a character who is (realistically) really happy to be alive.
i definitely agree with you, i think it's the idea of eternity that freaks people out more than the reality of living longer. eternity is hard for our minds to grasp and i think a lot of people would have an automatic response of 'no' if asked if they wanted to live forever. what does forever even look like? what would the earth even be like then? would you see the heat death of the universe or whatever? it's a hard concept.
but if you asked most people would you want 10 more years? 50? a hundred? if you asked in a concrete term i think most people would say yes, especially if they aren't going to age. living to 150 or something with normal aging would probably be really tough as your body breaks down, but without aging? sounds pretty good tbh.
of course it depends on people's life circumstances as well. somebody who's currently in a good situation is going to be more likely to say yes than somebody who's situation is hellish. but still.
another thing: the fact that hob always has an out changes the situation entirely. there's a huge difference between you have to live forever and you can live until you want out. hob always has an end point if he wants it and i think that would be a comfort during moments when eternity feels overwhelming. being forced to live forever is what changes it from a gift to a curse, you're basically trapped - probably one of the things that makes dream's perspective on it so different from hob's. hob chose to be here, dream didn't, hob has an easy out if he wants it, dream.... technically has an out but it's not in any way easy to choose or to make happen.
dream also has an immense burden on his shoulders that crushes him into the ground and that he feels he can't escape from. meanwhile, human life is always changeable -- even if hob gets himself into a situation where he feels burdened, given enough time he can get himself out of it, and he gets to make choices about how he arranges his life. meanwhile dream was just given this situation, and so on.
i also think that even if hob felt he didn't want to live anymore during his difficult moments, like after his family died and he was totally destitute, if faced with the actual choice he would say no. he might think he can't take this anymore, but if death actually showed up and asked if he wanted to die - when staring down the reality of it hob would say no. and i think a lot of people would too, even if only out of fear of the uncertainty of what comes next, if there is anything next at all. even people who are severely depressed and suicidal are often said to regret their decision the moment they actually try to kill themselves? like people who've jumped off bridges and survived have often said they regretted it the moment they jumped. so. i think most people might think they'd choose death and take it back the moment the reality arose.
so yeah i def agree with you

saw some people act so sad on those pre time skip to post time skip videos, especially on those about characters who didn't go pro
meanwhile, I can't stop praising the series just for putting that in
slight and less slight manga spoilers from here, but like the only post time skip arc, which sucks is kiyoko getting married to tanaka. I'd say a lot, but there's a video talking about it in a much better way. all I will say is that it sucks and those few frames from after nationals won't cut it for me
but everyone else had been written quite well. the most recent video I saw was about nishinoya. the nishinoya who joined karasuno just because girls' uniforms were cute? the nishinoya who played volleyball because of his friends? the guy is all over the place in the best way possible. Him finding passion in travelling makes so much sense
another i remember was about miya twins and how one went pro, and another went into food service. again, if I remember correctly, osamu's interest in food service was even mentioned in the anime (could be wrong, haven't rewatched season 4 yet) like it didn't come out of nowhere. not that I have any experience with siblings, let alone twins, but like from my understanding, them sticking together would have been even more unrealistic knowing everythingwe know about them. and it's not that they don't care about each other. Did we read the same final chapter, or are people basing this from headcanons. which is very reasonable but also maybe a little silly imo
another was about lev's potential. dunno, I think him and alisa were killing it on that billboard, but maybe
oikawa's arc reminds me a bit of sharpay from hsm, and I know it's random, but listen. told to be a villan but actually working much harder than the "good guys" to reach their goals and then in the losing to said "good guys" and having to work even harder for their goals but in the end they also get a happy ending. sounds familiar? I guess it would have been fun for him to stay in japan, but it's not like he's gone from the surface of the earth. the dude's still a pro. if he stayed in Japan, we would not have gotten the 2v2 with him and hinata vs buy me a drink bros, and that I think is one of the best things that ever happened. and him appearing in the final chapter, it was so good. can't say I liked pre time skip oikawa. That might have a lot to do with why I like post skip oikawa that much, dunno
and on top of that, there was a whole storyline about hirugami sachirō being from the volleyball family yet not liking it as much as the rest of his sibling. like mangaka has everything spelt out, it was told very loudly. the whole udai character feels like magaka's self instert
but then everyone is allowed to think what they want to think. Just don't mind me not being able to stop ranting about haikyuu

Some reader said that jungkook will think about cheating on his fs but will not do so because he decides to stick to his values & morals, what do you think?
I mean its either normal human behavior or bs. Its unrealistic to expect someone to never be attracted to someone else during the relationship, but being able to predict that with tarot ?? Either he has some sort of lesson around it, or its not actually that significant, or it was bullshit/ misinterpretation.
Also, i find it incredibly unhealthy to read on such things. It sounds straight up toxic imo. This is a relationship between two real people we are talking about, with free will at every step of the way. They could meet in 15 years for all we know, and they could get married in 30. Or not get married at all. The further in time we go, the less precise it gets. So being able to predict someones feelings and actions in a future and hypothetical marriage is far fetched at best.
Also, i answered it as a genuine question anon. I sincerely hope it was asked in good faith and not to stir up drama or shade someone else, or a copy pasted to other people.

I feel kinda weird when people are like "Shigaraki is a grown adult and needs to be held accountable even if you feel bad for his child self". Not in a poor little meow meow way. People need to take accountability for causing harm even when it's a result of mental illness. But the manga has always been clear that he didn't develop right? Like it's weird to expect him to shake off years of grooming when he hit 18. This is difficult to put into words without sounding like I am making excuses lol
I mean, you really don't even have to make excuses for him. The story is working toward forgiving him pretty blatantly without the excuses.
It's a story. A story exists to explore ideas. A story like BNHA explores ideas that are based off of our reality, but because of the sheer fact that it is a fantasy story, the exploration of those ideas will be quite exaggerated, and in turn, unrealistic.
That's why when people say shit like "He should be held accountable for his actions", I just eye roll. They're wanting a realistic telling of how criminals we are familiar with are treated. And to that I say--find something else to read, because you don't deserve the story for what it is.
In our reality, there is no real way to "redeem" oneself after ending other peoples' lives. I mean, no there just isn't. But in fiction ideas are exaggerated.
In FMA Scar murdered like...close to 40, if not 40+ people in a fucking military state country that committed genocide against his race. Scar helped save the country from demise, and then was offered a position to help the military that massacred his people. And then that same military started working to rebuild his country, just like that. Would Scar face the same fate in our reality? Fucking no. But it's a story that explores the idea of what certain situations DO to a person, what it can lead a person to do.
Now let's apply that to Shigaraki.
Gonna repeat myself--they're wanting a realistic telling of how criminals we are familiar with are treated.
Shigaraki has killed many many maaaanyyyyy people. Oof, so many. Pretty bad, yeah?
But Shigaraki's position in BNHA is a challenge to the main character to deliver a certain theme that the story has centered itself around. And with that, what has Shigaraki personally done to the main character? Not really much. Bakugo doesn't count, because for one: Bakugo isn't even gonna stay dead, but for two: it's not even Shigaraki specifically who is responsible right now. And no I don't mean fighting. That's circumstantial with them being a hero and a villain.
What I'm getting at is that Shigaraki's character, his arc, and his actions were all constructed a very specific way so that a different character could deliver the themes of the story hand in hand with Shigaraki at a certain level of ease. I say that because it doesn't have to be realistic. It needs to be convincing.
Realistically, Shigaraki would have been killed, detained, what the fuck ever. There'd be no happy ending in sight. He's done.
But this is BNHA, where the notion of a true hero exists, and such an idea is based around saving someone's existence in every way. It's an exaggerated idea that you won't ever see in your lifetime, in our reality. But in a story that wants to explore the idea of saving someone no matter what, because that someone is in pain and they as a human being matter, these ideas are convincing.
Yeah mental illness is not an excuse for harming someone. God fucking bless, I have been living this statement every day at my job currently. But that's not what the story is asking you to consider.
It's asking you to consider if Shigaraki is worth saving behind the monstrous cover he is wearing right now, because deep down he isn't a monster. He's just a person who is feeling anything and everything in the worst way.
The realistic aspects that you're talking about --I would say Horikoshi utilized very realistic trauma reactions to make the character convincing.
But imo the whole "he didn't develop right" argument is kinda moot, cuz that's not the question the story is asking. That's just the realistic part of the character that makes the resolution the story is building up toward (saving regardless of actions) convincing.
Realistic things can be used to make a character and a story convincing. But a story does not have to portray realism to be convincing. It just needs to follow up on the ideas it put in place.
For BNHA, if Izuku saves Shigaraki with the same mindset that he used to save Bakugo, Shouto, Iida, Kota, and Eri---then it's convincing. Because that's an idea about Izuku's character that has been implanted since chapter one.
Izuku saving Shigaraki after all the mass murder and destruction is not realistic by any means.
But because of the way Shigaraki's character has been constructed (a mess of emotions that makes it impossible for him to say what he really wants--which is for a hero to save him) and the way Izuku's character has been constructed (a hero who decides to save someone without them asking for it), it will be convincing.
You can make excuses but tbh, you don't need to. It's not necessary imo.

yknow as much as the (deserved) inazuma backlash has clearly changed hoyos writing for the better i do think there v much is one completely wrong lesson theyve taken from it and thats incorporating story quests into the AQ sequence (and specifically how theyve never attempted it again)
the concept itself was Never inherently bad. in fact it unironically has a ton of potential bc you could lessen the need for sudden character specific exposition in the AQ AND pull off way more high-stakes and timeline-specific plotlines in the SQs by ensuring players will experience it at the intended place and time.
the issue was that they introduced a bleak depressing inazuma in the middle of a fucking civil war and then went omg AQ on pause!!! lets go to a festival with ayaka and u will be her first friend ever OwO yoimiyas is at least vastly better written and actually involves the VH and sakoku decrees so its always been a favorite of mine but even then im sure theres things worth criticism in there its just been 2 years so i cant analyze it off the top of my head. but the greatest offender has always been the way ayakas comes with such a complete tonal dissonance it just takes you out of the atmosphere they spent the entire act I building up.
and it rly makes me sad bc i Know hoyo took the backlash about interrupted pacing and disjointed tone as "ok story quests bad as AQ requirements" when its like. no the one you wrote just sucked
AQ incorporated story quests need to have a damn good reason to be mandatory at that specific point and while its far from perfect i DO think yoimiyas fulfills that! but ayakas doesnt! at all! and like im realizing the issue is also in how genshins made it a standard that a character must receive a story quest Instantly on release. so i guess ayakas had to be in between acts I and II for plot reasons but like. that being the case then the story quest itself shouldve focused on a completely different theme as opposed to her very predictable tropey personal problems that werent even explored properly imo. like im sure plenty of depth and nuance in her characterization was lost in translation but i almost cry laughed the first time the restaurant vendor went "oh ayaka is lonely because she is so perfect that no one sees her as a friend but instead an aspiration" like what in the 3rd grader writing mary sue self insert fic tarnation 💀 you couldve worded that exact same concept in 12 different ways to make it actually sound poignant and you did That SHAHSKSJSKDLJH
(and a quick addition before i get accused of being a blind hater hater lmao. here goes: "the burdens of miss ayakas position as the public face of the kamisato make it difficult for her to shed the mask of practiced perfection. i think people struggle to see her as a person whod enjoy simple things in life like friendship just like everyone else when theyre so used to viewing her as an unreachable figurehead." there. now its way more clearly nuanced. this took me 3 minutes and is far from any fluid writing yet. the difference is staggering)
but like. as a result this ambiguous timeline limbo most story quests end up falling into is genuinely a shame bc i do think theres potential in attempting the ayaka n yoi thing again but with characters for whom it makes sense and actually enhances the AQ experience by necessitating it. and yeah yeah ik genshin wants to be casual friendly so they dont want to force ppl to do quests they dont like for AQ so its unrealistic to expect them to ever try it out again but man
as long as they pick the right place and time and characters for it they could massively alleviate the issue of some story quests contents ending up feeling like somewhat empty fluff bc they cant assume what point a player will be in the main plot could be so they lack actually impactful lore and or character beats.
obviously im not a writer at hoyo and idk how much backlash the ayaya/yoi situation got them but like. idk. taking the lesson "never do anything like inazuma again" isnt rly what id consider the full picture. inazuma does suck and has clunky moments throughout but like in 2.0 people were still hype! inazuma had good ideas and concepts and attempted sth that couldve been great the issue isnt inazuma bad on all levels its that they never delivered its potential and 2.1 was an incredible letdown.

HC for Reigen, his sibling, and his childhood
Reigen having a sibling is a pretty common HC!! Most headcanons with Reigen’s older sister/Reigen having a sibling portray the sibling as the “good kid”/“golden child” compared to his loser ass, but mostly based on…….projection from my own childhood……. I’d like to think it’s the opposite. IMO, Reigen was the “good kid” while his sibling was the one who Reigen’s parents probably worried about more
I think it’s quite a common hc too that Reigen’s parents were strict/emotionally neglectful/had unrealistic expectations of their kids, which I totally agree with. Now, here’s some projection and traumadumping to illustrate how children with these parents might grow —
There are a couple ways children survive living with overbearing/strict parents — by running themselves ragged trying to please them, or by accepting the frequent arguments/groundings/bans as part of life. I think Reigen (as I did) chose the former, and his sibling (as my sibling did) chose the latter.
My childhood went something like this: I was seen as the “unproblematic child” with a tendency to be a fast learner wherever it counted. I thrived off being good at things, and being told I was good at things. Classic “you can do anything you set your mind to” child. I wasn’t perfect by far; I just developed a sixth sense for getting away with things — lying, “reading” my parents, finding loopholes, scheduling “coincidences”, and a healthy amount of crying to guilt-trip my teachers.
My sibling, on the other hand, was the opposite — they skipped school, never cared to find any extracurricular clubs, and were always at odds with my parents. They made friends quick though; where I tended to only befriend people I was in the same class/club with, my sibling somehow always had a web of friends spanning multiple schools. Crucially, despite how often they fought with my parents, my sibling almost never lied, instead choosing to go “Yeah, I did that. So what?”, accepting the ensuing arguments.
Because of that, we grew very differently. My sibling is so much more open and sociable, hating environments where he’s made to act more “formal”/“professional”, figuring out early on that you don’t actually need to continually convince people that you matter. On the other hand, I think I’ve habitually covered up any single iota of genuineness inside me. I’m great at making first impressions but bad at actually connecting; I can’t cope with not being busy 100% of the time; I keep obsessively finding new skills to pick up because idk what else I can do. I also don’t have any good coping mechanisms for failure and rejection because, well, why would a “gifted kid” need to learn how to deal with being bad at things?* [*: sarcasm]
Does all this sound familiar?
So yes anyway. I think Reigen is Reigen because he was always good at pleasing his parents/teachers using a combination of deception/manipulation and actually being good at things, and was unable to accept failure/rejection because he’d always found a way to avoid it. And as a result of being unable to accept any outcome below the ideal, he would’ve gotten less and less honest about his own genuine emotions, eventually becoming great at presenting an “impressive” front but terrible at actually genuinely connecting with people.
And so in conclusion — LET CHILDREN BE SHIT AT THINGS. LET CHILDREN SUCK AT SCHOOLWORK/SPORTS/ETC. Literally no one was created to be perfect at everything. Allowing children to fail in a supportive environment doesn’t encourage them to “”underperform””; it makes them so much better at accepting failure and moving forward from it in a safe and non-self-destructive way. Also, forcing kids to be perfect doesn’t make them perfect — it just makes them damn good liars. Idk why this is becoming a parenting PSA from me, a single 24-year-old, but please just. Let children be shit.

Honestly re: Archetypes, the way anyone sees this as a failure of anyone other than Spotify is beyond me. Spotify podcasts lost almost every big name it announced: Obamas, Clintons, Kim K, Ava DuVernay, and more. Articles were coming out every few months since like...2020 or 2021 about people leaving or not solidifying deals with Spotify. Meghan's team said she had lots of ideas and content (that were probably not approved by Spotify) and is continuing the work on other platforms. She won awards, dethroned JOE ROGAN, went #1 or Top 5 in multiple countries, and Spotify included her in their financial report. This is literally not a "she didn't do enough" kind of thing. The exec who threw that tantrum with the grifters comment has been fired by other high-profile jobs like at ESPN for being a loudmouth bullying POS. Spotify is making massive layoffs. This is just like Netflix and the Pearl thing imo: Spotify can no longer afford podcasts and are getting ready to axe (or significantly restructure) the entire division and Meghan got out while she could before she could get contracted to something that wasn't lucrative and was even more restrictive. Imo, if Spotify wanted to keep the max exodus of podcasters from leaving their platform, they shouldn't have paid Joe Rogan a quarter of a billion dollars to alienate the majority of their consumers with disgusting rhetoric and behavior.
To me, if you take out the hearsay and only go based on what we know, it's literally all on Spotify.
Yes, based on the article I reblogged, it sounds like Spotify had no good plan for the Sussexes, or had an unrealistic plan that they didn’t even really support. Like they were throwing money at famous people with no medium-term reason. They sound like a bunch of idiots tbh.
And yes, it sounds like Meghan delivered but that Spotify either moved the goalposts or weren’t honest with even themselves about what she would bring. It seems pretty clear that she wasn’t going to be on the mic 2-3x/week.
Joe Rogan’s has a big audience because he stirs up shit with no regard for consequences, which is exactly what right-wing audiences want. There’s a reason Fox News does better in the USA than MSNBC and CNN, and it’s because liberals and left-leaning audiences get their news and analysis from a variety of places whereas conservatives are lock-step like fascists. It’s been hard for the left-wing/even left of center to get a foothold like that anywhere.
If I fault the Sussexes for anything, it’s getting into bed with Spotify at all. But I think it’s good to remember that they’re just two people forging a brand new path without any experience yet needing to make several million $$$ per year. Like I said, I think they still need to figure out how to bring in tons of money—what do they have to sell?
