Kaz: I try not to compliment people til they’re dead, but I guess you were… adequate today
Jesper, tearing up: That’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me
Kaz, threateningly: Never repeat it!

Jesper : Well, remember when you told me not to burn down our headquarters?
Kaz : You burned down our headquarters?
Jesper : No, I had the fire put out almost immediately.
Jesper : This is a success story.

Incorrect Six of Crows
Wylan: Guys! Come quick! I’ve found something!
*turns around with a moth on his finger*
Wylan: Dryocampa Rubicunda, or the candied melon silk moth. A very rare specimen.
Wylan: See? We’re already finding stuff!
Kaz: *eyeroll* Great, you found a bug. Cheers.
Jesper: And who says treasure maps are worthless?

re: kaz brekker's first name
kazimir is fun but slavic and thus interferes with the dutch vibes. kaspar is probable but too close to jesper and also i don't like it. i present for your consideration my personal contender:
kasijn/nikasijn/nikasius - first variant shows up on this list of dutch names from the 1500s. this website gives us the lengthened form which is allegedly "archaic dutch." see 16th century dutch statesman nicasius de sille for the last one
putting aside my "i think they sound cool" hat for a moment, it's probably not nikasijn or nikasius—considering that his brother's name is jordan, they're a little pretentious. another possibility could be nikas as a variant of nikasius, although that starts to veer away from the kerch name scheme
in terms of origin they're all probably related to the greek word νεῖκος (neîkos) that can mean strife, battle, fight, etc. so there's still some funky etymology to work with

Adapting Six of Crows and Shadow & Bone as a singular story was a mistake.
Both stories don’t get the attention they deserve because they have to share a handful of episodes with a completely different set of characters. Though really I think the Shadow & Bone storyline suffers the most from this because it’s the plot line that follows the original material the closest and needed more time to develop. The Shadow & Bone plot line covers too much ground for it to paired with another separate story that is ideologically incompatible with its themes.
They shouldn’t have tried to adapt both at the same time, it muddled both stories and was too ambitious of an idea for a team of writers that had no interest in expanding upon the original story. Six of Crows was already a critically acclaimed YA novel that had surpassed the original story that it was connected to and was widely considered to be a great duology. Between the two works, SOC stands out as the superior story that demonstrates an improvement in Leigh Bardugo’s writing and character building.
But Shadow and Bone? That trilogy has been criticized since 2014 when it delivered a terrible ending in an already cliche-driven story. There were flashes of good writing (ex. The Darkling, Nikolai) but even then, those examples were drowning in a sea of asinine relationship drama and the misadventures of a passive protagonist. But when the opportunity arose for those flaws to be mended, the Netflix adaptation failed spectacularly and played it safe by making superficial alterations, but never really straying too far from the nature of the original source material. The fact that it’s time was split between itself and SOC only gave us LESS time to change and expand upon the existing story.
Between the two works, Shadow & Bone changes the least when it should’ve changed the most, and Six of Crows changed the most when it should’ve changed the least.
